There's a bad smell to this. A very bad smell. I think it's the smell of Bloomberg and his girlfriend on the board of Brookfield. Add to it the smell of a TA and Councilman who only are looking out for themselves.
The TA literally represents a tiny fraction of the actual tenants. There is guaranteed to be many lawsuits before any such action takes place. Interesting how the TA and Dan Garodnick are willing to jump into bed with the company responsible for allowing the Occupy Wall Street group to take over their property. First Rose screws up the place, then Tishman Speyer screw up the place, then CW Capital and Rose (again) screw up the place then the TA and Dem. council member Garodnick go out and recruit the OWS enablers into the community...Great job.
They can have their press conference without me. Did we have to find out about this from a newspaper article? Some of us have paid for membership! There sure is a bad smell to it. I hope no one goes but that's impossible since press conference = Dan Garodnick. I've had it!
I'll take the TA over Andrew "Blades of Glory" MacArthur ANY day!!!!
Diana on the board. But not the mayor. ?????
I think the only bad smell is caused by the plethora of negative posters about anything to do with Stuyvesant Town.
To post here you do not have to believe in the glass half full or the glass half empty. The glass must be shattered and leaking - such a bunch of pessimists!
Quite tiring to say the least.
Diana Taylor is on the board of Brookfield and the girlfriend of Mayor Bloomberg. The very same mayor that stood by and said nothing and did nothing to stop the insane sale of this communitiy. I agree very much with the other poster. This has a very bad smell indeed. Check the fine print on this one.
I can't wait to see what happens. As a long time tenant it saddens and angers me to see what has happened to what was once an oasis in this crazy city. It's now a bug infested, poorly maintained complex run by a morally base management company (Rose Associates) that cares nothing about living standards. They are only interested in finding new ways to get rid of rent-stabilized tenants. I hope the previous commentator's cynicism doesn't prove to be true.
Mayor Bloomberg, not Brookfield, was responsible for allowing the OWS slugs to occupy Zucotti Park.
why is the illegally zoned ice skating rink still operating?
I know...someone's "looking into it".

@11:14am
Here's what someone from the TA told me: "Some things are best accomplished out of the public eye, but you can see the TA website for latest."
I've also paid for membership.
This proposal is probably going nowhere fast. Not because it is a bad idea in principle--it is not. But because it probably has little chance of success.
I'm anxious to review the prospectus or offering statement. Can't wait! But, if it's a bad deal, I will take a pass. And I expect that many others will as well. But we shall see!
So far: Hot air, 1. Hard facts, 0.

Please, please, please do not feel as though you are alone feeling this way. The last six years have been a complete travesty and the next five could prove to be even worse.
We all have to be diligent in evaluating any offer to become "owners."
This will be tied up in the court system for years to come. BIP is not entering this deal out of the goodness of their heart. They are looking to recover as much as they can of what they lost in the original deal. This will not sit well with the other bond holders. There will be one legal challenge afater another. BIP is not going to hand the keys over to the TA or Dan for free. This is one big smoke screen, while nothing has been done about the rink and nothing will be done.
If the Ta and Feckless Dan are pushing for this, then I doubt it's in the best interest for most of us!
I'm think that we now need 3 Tenants Associations. One to represent those interested in co-oping, one for those who want to remain renters and one to deal with quality of life issues during the years (decades?) until this new plan might reach fruition.
This piece has an explanation of the agreement. http://www.dnainfo.com/20111130/murray-hill-gramercy/residents-partner-with-brookfield-buy-stuy-townpeter-cooper-village
Anon 9:37 is about right. Who does the TA represent? It seems to me that if they are moving along a line to 'acquire' this asset then they must disband as the TA and become the coop/condo board.
Also, since they are potential owners who should wish to acquire this asset at the lowest price, the TA should remove itself from the Roberts/J-51 class action intermediation since the attorneys for Roberts' best interest should be to seek the highest award possible, an award ultimately paid for by the next owner.
I've been here since 2001. I'm in the class action. I'm a mid-40's guy raised in rent stab my entire life and attempting to raise my family here. I cannot for the life of me understand what the primary TA mandate is. Save middle income rental stock? keep STPCV affordable? Or, now, engineer the greatest transfer of wealth in NYC rental housing history? Heed the words, coop/condo comes our way, insiders buys at lower rates then when allowed ,flip to the open market. And as many bright minds have already stated, many 'classes' then exist with competing interests. But, of course, the TA will represent all of us!
NOTE: I email the Roberts' attorneys periodically. They always direct me to the TA for news/updates.
NOTE2: It must be difficult to stand the hard-line with CW Capital re QOL issues when you're sitting across the table from them negotiating a purchase.
NOTE3: TA must find it difficult to demand increased services when those services may cost more money. Since its their quest to acquire asset, they probably find it in best interest to keep operating expenses within a manageable cost (per square foot of course since that's how condo maintenance and taxes are quoted).
NOTE4: "transfer of wealth': what I mean by that is the permanent removal of affordable housing stock. Some of the transfer will be to the benefit of tenants of the apartments. But it is still a negative sum game to the entirety of the city's affordability.
S/B "AL AND DAN TO BID FOR STUYVESANT TOWN - PETER COOPER VILLAGE"
Tenants to be hosed again...
Since the TA is comprised of only a tiny fraction of the actual tenants of ST/PCV where do they get off speaking as if they represent all or even a majority of tenants. It is time once and for all to shut down these people who are hell bent on nothing less than losing a fortune owning this place.
If you do not like the idea of the supposed Tenants Association speaking for you, call Brookfield Asset Management at 212-417-7000 and let them know that the group calling themselves the tenants association is anything but.
So this is why Dan Garodnick and the TA have been pussyfooting around the issue of the legality of the ice rink and other commercial venues in ST. They don't want to piss off CW Cap who may not want to fall in with their plans for ownership. Bunch of snakes in the grass! I don't trust Dan and the TA any more than I trust Adam Rose. Now ask me how much I trust Adam Rose!
How much do you trust Adam Rose?
I consider the reference to the OWS protesters as "slugs" in- accurate and mean-spirited. As with any group there are fringe destructive people, but the majority at OWS are concerned with the woeful state of the economy and how they and their children will survive. Many of the older ppeople living here do not have the resources to buy and they, too, are victimized by the economy. I do not feel at all comfortable working with Brookfield, the very wealthy owners of Zuccotti Park. I do not trust them. Perhaps I am too pessimistic, but I feel we are being railroaded into this for those who will gain political advantage by taking partial credit for this deal to condo Stuy Town and PCV. There is definitely a bad smell to this and I'm sure the TA meeting will feature slick talking suits with blow dry hair styles
For everyone who feels shut out by the TA, I remind you that this is what I was told:
"Some things are best accomplished out of the public eye, but you can see the TA website for latest."
“We think Rose Associate’s and CW Capital are great. We love the ice skate rink. But there was no music, so we want music at the rink. We love the food trucks. We love the concerts. ”
So says The A.W.E.S.O.M.-O 4000.
If you think this is insane, just check out the latest letter to the T&V re the rink. As Gerry Seinfeld would say, “Who are these people?”
http://town-village.com/2011/12/01/letters-to-the-editor-dec-1/
Just read my copy of T&V. Lot of fluff about the ice rink. 1,000 people used it over w/e - Wow! Where d'ya get that number, Sabena. NOTHING about the brutal, life-threatening attacks on the two elderly people in Stuyvesant Town. NOTHING about how management tried to deceive the press into reporting that the attacks took place in Gramercy. NOTHING about how "Public Safety" was too busy guarding the ice skating rink to be bothered about this predator in our midst. Speaking of predators, why would anyone think that CW or Rose exercise any good faith with regards to a tenant buyout? As Joan Rivers would say: "GROW UP!"
This is a big game of "Hot Potato",
The one who is left holding the pig with lipstick is the putz.
I bet a $ to donut that The TA and Dan will be the first ones to flip their apartment.
The muggings were mentioned in the police blotter along with a rediculous and convoluted explanation of why Stuy Town is Gramercy... and sometimes Chelsea! To think these people carry guns!
So while Tishman Speyer and Adam Rose were running roughshod all over the tenants Al Doyle and Dan Garodnick were sitting idly by plotting their takeover rather than standing up for the tenants they were supposed to be looking out for. Now when I think about the people most responsible for the downfall of this once desired neighborhood you must put Dan and Al right at the top. At least with the Speyers and Rose you knew who the enemy was. Doyle and Garodnick hid among the tenants pretending to be concerned about their welfare while plotting their destruction. Shame on them and every member of the TA and its members.
As an homage to Al Doyle and Dan Garodnick for selling out the residents of ST/PCV I have decided to name things after them. For example when I am referring to a member of a group of our new narciscist neighbors I will call that person an Al Doyle, Dan Garodnick will be something else, you'll see. It goes like this "The other day I got on the elevator and one of the Al Doyles that lives on the 6th floor got on with his pitbull. The dog couldnt hold it in anymore and did a huge Dan Garodnick right there on the elevator floor. Then the Al Doyle got off the elevator and left the smelly Dan Garodnick right there on the elevator floor".
Christine Quinn has no credibility as far as I'm concerned and anything she supports should be looked at with suspicion. That woman has been so far up Bloomberg's ass for so long that she will never rid herself of the stench as long as she lives.
"Christine Quinn has no credibility as far as I'm concerned"
Total agreement with that, her full name is Christine Quisling-Vichy Quinn.
3 billion is too low. landlord will not take 3b. NYU pay much more!!!!!
much more.
BTW, when did our hallways become party space?
The bungling of the mugging information is convoluted to say the least. Stuy Town IS the neighborhood, not Murray Hill, not Kips Bay, not Gramercy and not Chelsea. Their excuses make the police sound like idiots.
Our award winning security system hard at work!
"Our award winning security system hard at work!"
Not fair. Not fair!
It's tough to do all this crime fighting when you have to focus on updating your facebook page from your smartphone while you sit in your idling RAV4 outside my window...all night long.
Yeah. I want to pay for that as an "owner."
I read about the mugging cover up in T&V in the police blotter. Why wasn't the capture of this guy a full story? Could it have to do with the new Stuy Town ads?
How come no one is covering the man who returned to his apartment only to find the Fedex man and some women robbing his apartment.
Happened Friday afternoon 20th street loop.
Another cover up. Security rings in man and women who robbed an apartment on the 7th floor in 21 Stuyvesant oval Friday afternoon

Apparently, they have been instructed to let in anyone. I overheard someone in the lobby buzz security to get let in. All they had to say is "Let me in. I'm here to visit a friend that just moved in."
Magically the door opened and in they went.
What if they just said "Landshark?!?"
