Having been informed by leasing agents of the mass vacancies that will result in the coming two months from the Roberts Settlement Massacre, and made aware of the anything-goes atmosphere of ST-PCV and the fun activities at Playground 10, a battalion of new renters head into Manhattan to visit the Stuy Town-Peter Cooper Village leasing office on 1st Avenue.
Ladies and gentlemen, your new neighbors!

BTW, this was posted by a tenant at the official PCVST FB page:
"Thursday afternoon shared the elevator with a young men in the elevator, the cart had 2 cases of beer (24 each) juices and all the mixers one needs for a party. he pressed the elevator bottom one floor above me, so I knew what will be coming on the us over the weekend, a fraternity party.
Well the fraternity party started to get started one floor above us on Friday around 10:30 pm and by 12 midnight there was unbearable noise. So we called security, and it took them 30 minutes to respond, when the security office rung their door, and it was opened there was an even louder cheer and the noise increased. we called all together 5 times security, and the noise went on to 2:30 am.
We have a right for the peaceful enjoyment of our apartment, but our landlord is not able to provide.
At around 10 am I followed up with a phone call to security wanted to make sure that our 5 calls were properly recorded. when complaining about the inability of the security officers to help i was told the following: a security officer is a peace office, does not have the right to enter the noisy apartment, the only thing the peace officer can do is to record the incident. Therefore
I was advised to call 911 if I wanted further action at the time of the incident."
That's pretty pathetic.
We are now returning to our normal scheduled programming of scapegoating tenants of a younger demographic.
So much for Unity.
Call the 13th pct and/or 311 and KEEP CALLING. If Security cannot stop this kind of noise (and they always could in the past), then they are not worth having around. We are entitled to live with a reasonable amount of peace and quiet. You could also call the DEP because noise problems are addressed by that agency, too. Bloomberg brought in this stupid 311 system so that New Yorkers could stonewalled and not have complaints addressed. I think a rent strike/slowdown is perfectly in order at this point.
Bottom line, call NYPD instead of "Security" and keep on them.
More Dudes! More Bros! More shit in the halls! More barf in the garden! More hell on earth!
This overt and indisputable harassment on the part of the landlord. They are in violation of DHCR and NY noise abatement laws. These "peace officers" are not keeping the peace if they cannot keep the peace! They are worse than mall cops. In fact, mall cops can do much better.
Here's a suggestion: call NYPD and tell them you think someone is being assaulted in the noisy apartment. They will definitely come then.
In comments on the various blogs over the years, tenants have noted that Security hates it when we call the police and tries to discourage us from doing so. If Public Safety (I'm sure that name is ironic) won't do its job, they leave us no choice. Next time there's a town hall (ha!), perhaps Chief McClellan can tell us exactly what his staff will and won't do. That way we won't waste our time calling those who won't deal with a situation.
Anon 10:01 - who posted this on TA's Facebook page? I don't see it there.
I believe it's on the "official" Stuy Town - Peter Cooper page, or else it was.

Relax. It's just a joke. With a point, of course, as the vast majority of new renters in the past years have been students. But a joke, nevertheless.
It's a joke, but very on point!
This is Anony 10.01. Again, this noise comment was posted at the official PCVST FB page, not the TA FB page. And the comment is still there. To Anony 10.24, while at the Leasing Office rally (and seeing nothing but college and just post college prospective tenants come in with their parents), I was talking to a resident who told me that he has a NYU apartment on his floor and the kids were very nice and he was sorry to see them go. But let’s cut to the chase. We are not paying rent here (no matter what the rate) to live in a dormitory. Whether this place stays as a rental or has a Condo or Co-op non-eviction conversion, the value of being a dormitory is negative, not positive. As aptly documented over the years at this blog, the old Lux Lving blog, letters to the T&V and now through social media such as FB and Twitter, the vast majority of the students that are lving here for a microsecond are entitled, obnoxious, clueless A-holes. Sorry, that’s the truth. And to find unity with this kind of group, what is the common ground and goals to be reached? They don’t give a shit about the broken intercoms. They don’t give a hit about the loss of an elevator, the interior conditions of the property nor the conditions of the grounds here. They don’t give shit about massive rent increases since they are funded by their parents. They don’t give a shit about MCI's, fire code violations, bed bugs (they’ll just move out) or any of other major QOL issues here or the equity value of this property. They are here to get a degree (if they last) and party. When you have four 19, 20 year olds living in one apartment, with no RA supervision, you then get the living hell that drives any normal tenant insane. But maybe that’s the strategy of management.
Though I wanted to keep my comments on this to a later post I'm going to write, I will add that the influx of students here has raised rents considerably because of the rapid apartment turnover. This has been a strategy of management, and while I don't find fault with students trying to find housing, I do find fault with the dorm concept of PCV-ST because it lets this place become less and less affordable with each new student lease.
You can't talk sense with these kids. They have no life experience yet. They'll understand in 15 years. Until then, we're all "haters" for trying to get them to understand why the dorms created here are bad for the community whether its the high turnover on the apartments or noise complaints.
Anon 10:01 Thanks. You did, indeed, say that it was on the official PCVST FB page. Apologies. I missed that.
Amazed that this post and some other negative ones are still up.
Read the comment on the official stuy page about the front door to the building not locking and bikes being stolen. This guy has a point - we're taking this laying down. On top of these rent hikes. We're not sheep - we should rent strike. If enough do it people will get the message.
Everyone keeps yelling about the "Students", but what percentage of PCVST apartments are actually leased to students whose parents are paying the rent?
I'm sure there are some students out there, but I'm not convinced it's a big enough number that eliminating them would have any impact on the demographic of new tenants, or QOL issues. One my neighbors (old RS tenant) thought I was a student for years until I told him otherwise.
Most students and their parents can't afford PCVST anyway, even as chopped up units. All of the NYU students I've ever met lived in crammed dilapidated walk ups throughout the EV and Union Square area. The bedrooms are literally big enough for a bed and that is it, virtually no living room, and very basic hallway kitchen. Most of these go for around $3000 for a 3 bedroom as opposed to $4000 for a converted 3 at PCVST.
I could be mistaken, but whenever I pass by the leasing office almost 90% of the people inside are students or student-age. The rest are one of their parents.
Actually, I do see the occasional "young professional".....
"Actually, I do see the occasional "young professional"....."
young professional what? I have "young professionals" living in the apartment downstairs from me and I have reason to believe they are drug dealers. Well, I guess it's a profession and that's what CW wants. I'm sure the Oldest Profession is going strong among the students and the "Young Professionals."
I love how everyone says, "We have to do something!" yet the TA tried to have sustained picketing at the leasing office to hit CWCapital in the only place it understands - its pocket - and they couldn't get enough people - out of the tens of thousands who live here - to show up for more than two days. Everybody wants somebody else to do the heavy lifting that needs to be done. Not enough people are willing to do the dirty work that's required to make a real difference. CWCapital must be laughing its ass off because this is EXACTLY what they expected to happen.
I don't think the TA activities concerning the Roberts Settlement Massacre are over. Many people work during the weekdays, so I wouldn't expect there to be a presence at the leasing office at this point.
STR, you said: "I don't think the TA activities concerning the Roberts Settlement Massacre are over. Many people work during the weekdays, so I wouldn't expect there to be a presence at the leasing office at this point."
The TA had planned to have picketing going on there EVERY DAY this week and going forward, not just last weekend. If you had signed up to help out with the picketing, you would have known this. I'm not faulting you for not signing up, if you didn't, you do plenty by having this blog, but it is pathetic that the TA could not muster enough troops to carry on the picketing this week and into the future because that is EXACTLY what is needed to make a difference here. That apparent apathy and "let somebody else do it" attitude on the part of most tenants here is exactly what CWCap was counting on. Looks like they won.
I'm well aware of the schedule that was set up. BTW, I was at the weekend protests doing what I could with the limited time I had. Obviously, it was wishful thinking that the front and back entrances to the leasing offices could be covered throughout the week. I've no idea what will happen this weekend, the Memorial Day Weekend, or afterward. I do not want to get negative at this point, but, believe me, I have a post coming up after all this has simmered down that will pull no punches.
That apparent apathy and "let somebody else do it" attitude on the part of most tenants here is exactly what CWCap was counting on.
Did you ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, people don't support the TA? What's their membership, around 5%? That means 95% have no interest in the group.
The TA is the only game in town (Stuy Town/PCV) that represents tenants. Whatever the numbers are, anyone who cares about this place and affordable housing should join. If you have a reasonable option, let's hear it.

Nonsense. I care about this place and affordable housing as much or more than anyone on the TA, but I would never join a bunch of phonies to show that. I speak up individually and with others of the same opinion. I have spoken personally with Dan Garodnick, the head of CWC, Andrew McArthur, Bonaparte Bloomberg's office, Bill De Blasio's office, Scott Stringer's office, Carolyn Maloney's office, etc, etc. I have just today been on the phone with the DOT, some woman named Chattergoon (I swear that's what she said) about the fact that they promised not to remove parking spots from a neighborhood so hungry for parking that not long ago a man almost killed a woman over a parking spot, yet they removed them anyway. She said the bike racks were going to be put in loading zones, no standing zones etc. I told her that wasn't true. She promised that the DOT would have to look into opening more spots, I told her they said the same thing when they removed about 30 spots along Ave C and not one was replaced. Myself and other tenants wrote the mayor and threatened a lawsuit if the 13th precinct didn't start to enter Stuy Town (before the ice pick mugger attacks), we even got a written response from the new commander at the time although he is gone now. I intend to contact the new commander to ascertsin whether they are going to enforce all traffic rules on bikes or stop enforcing them on cars. Clearly, it is discriminatory not to. Many phone calls from individuals are bound to make more of an impression than one call from a group that can't even muster enough support to hold an election.
Lots of prostitution in Stuy Town. It's all over Craigslist. Sugar Babies galore!
Building and room numbers, please.
>>Many phone calls from individuals are bound to make more of an impression than one call from a group that can't even muster enough support to hold an election.<<
But they have to be on the same page or else there's little attention paid. And even at that, there's probably no chance to move the Powers that Be or The Way Things Are.
Insider info. Peace officers/Public Safety do have the authority to write summonses and issue these to people of the property. Unfortunately though they have this status, Higher ups of security and management do not want them arresting or giving tickets to the residents. Don't blame the officers because trust me I know they would love to truly enforce the power they have but the higher ups won't let them because they don't want to piss off residents.
They don't want to piss off some residents, e.g., students. The rest of us they very much want to piss off.
I have two young guys in their early twenties who just moved in next door. I noticed that there was a large bag of recycling outside their door and asked about it. The guy apologized took it inside and an hour later it is back outside in the hallway in front of his and my door. What do they think, that this is a hotel and someone will pick up after them? What is wrong with these people?
