Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

5 Cents Extra
Little did I suspect that a City Council vote the other day will mandate a 5 cent extra charge for every plastic bag gotten at the check-out counter. Sorry, I don't frivolously use these bags, but use them for getting rid of refuse and garbage in my apartment, as I'm sure many New Yorkers do. Now I will have to think of different strategies. 5 cents here, 5 cents there, adds up to dollars a week. Thanks, City Council. Now just to give myself a 32% pay raise as did recently the City Council.
The Guilty who voted yes:
Brad S. Lander, Margaret S. Chin, The Public Advocate (Ms. James), Donovan J. Richards, Peter A. Koo, Stephen T. Levin, Elizabeth S. Crowley, Daniel Dromm , Mark Levine, Corey D. Johnson, James G. Van Bramer, Andrew Cohen, Costa G. Constantinides, Helen K. Rosenthal, Carlos Menchaca, Ben Kallos, Ydanis A. Rodriguez, Laurie A. Cumbo, I. Daneek Miller, Ritchie J. Torres, Antonio Reynoso, Rosie Mendez, Fernando Cabrera , Julissa Ferreras-Copeland, Andy L. King, Jumaane D. Williams, Daniel R. Garodnick
They should never hold public office again. But you know that. And most people will vote for the way they have always voted, so nothing changes and the screwing will continue.

Dan Garodnick's past 6 months....
Voted himself a 33% raise, sends a letter to the Mayor asking for 5% cutbacks across the board (most likely to fund his raise) and now he taxes people for eating!
Anybody else counting the days until this wholly owned subsidiary of the REBNY is out of office?
I agree with you 100%. I use these bags for garbage disposal. None of mine ends up in the trees and landfills. The City Council are a bunch overpaid, underworked nuckleheads. This is going to be a hardship for a lot of people. Maybe it's a conspiracy by the manufacturers of the Hefty Bags and Glad Bags?
Don't think he'll be out of office. Just another office. "For the people."

I completely disagree. People are starting to see through these phonies. Why do you think Trump is so popular? Corrupt Democrats, that's why.
Agreed Str. we all re use them for multiple reasons. This smells like HS from our great city once again.
Carbon Dioxide is very dangerous to humans. Carbon dioxide is produced by breathing. The City Council should propose a $.01 tax on every breath so we can deal with this dangerous problem.
What?? They figured out a way to tax eating why not breathing, it's the only thing they haven't taxed at this point. it is inevitable.
Welcome back, STR. Hope you stay around, even if you don't post as often as you used to.
Can't wait for DeB and Cuomo to be dragged out of office by Preet Bahara. Can't wait for Garodnick to disappear into oblivion.
Professional mature couple looking to sublet,, if anyone leaving their one or two bedroom please post somewhere here or FB? quiet, no pets, excellent refs and credit.
"People are starting to see through these phonies." Not enough, I'm afraid. Hillary won Stuy Town/Peter Cooper Village. Dan Garodnick was also out there pimping for her on primary day.
I was watching the City Council hearing on the plastic bags issue and I noticed that when one Council member got up to speak about how it was a tax and would impose hardship on many of his constituents, Garodnick was clearly not listening, but was smirking and chatting to whomever the person was sitting beside him.
I hate that odious little man and I hate DeBlasio, too. DeBlasio's supposedly "progressive" policies have done nothing for the low and middle income people of this city. Instead, they have encouraged gentrification and displacement of many neighborhoods populated by the poor and lower middle class people. His 80/20 vision is total bullshit and a gift to REBNY.
I can't wait until DeB and Garodnick and the rest of the shit on the City Council are gone away. I will vote Republican from now on because at least they don't pretend to be on the side of the lower income and middle class people. They are honest bastards whereas the likes of DeB and Garodnick and Mark-Viverito are wolves in sheeps clothing.
Well said 10:18, well said!
10:18, you beat me to it. I was watching NY1 last night as well, and saw Danny Boy smirking and chucking at his fellow council member's concerns. Simply put, the guy is a conceited asshole.
Regarding bags, you can buy your own supply cheap. Stores have bag suppliers, they can be yours too. A few minutes of googling turns up several souces. Typical price is 20 bucks for a box of 1,000 bags. Hint, for some reason the industry often calls them T-Shirt bags. Buy a box, and you're good for a couple of years. Ten of them will fold up to the size of a handkerchief, stick them in your pocket when you go grocery shopping.
And if you wanna get creative, for a little extra you can have your bags made with custom imprints. How about "Fuck the Bag Tax!"?
No doubt once the Bag Tax goes into effect, you'll probably see local shops selling boxes of bags. If there's a need, and there is since so many people reuse their plastic bags for trash and such, you can bet someone will step in to supply the market.
Thank you for the info, Atomic Man. I will certainly buy my own supply of bags. I hope the check-out clerks will continue to do the bagging because I am totally hopeless and would hold up the whole line!
STR, I see you don't like Hillary Clinton, but please tell me you wouldn't want to see Trump in the White House. He would be a total disaster. The line up of candidates this election has been the most abysmal one in my living memory.
this is a tax...not designed for environmental purposes. the environmental BS is just cover. 4 cents/bag makes it worthwhile for the supermarkets to collect. 1 cent per bag across every supermarket in every borough comes to substantial money. helps supplement a shrinking tax base, pay increased council salaries for career pols...also to pay for tax payer giveaways like the deal with stpcv-blackstone. agree with the comment about democrats here. they just lie and make self-serving deals with powerful interests. what's the matter with kansas is becoming what the matter with nyc. would be happy to vote next time for anyone who isn't democrat or a republican.
>>STR, I see you don't like Hillary Clinton, but please tell me you wouldn't want to see Trump in the White House.<<
Perhaps we shouldn't chose the lesser of two evils, but vote, if possible (you can always write in) for someone who we won't be glum over choosing. Otherwise, the same old continues.... But my choice. Others can do what they want.

I agree too and saw the coverage on the news. Does Garodnick not realize that cameras ate on him when he does these things? It's like shoplifters that don't think they are on camera when they rob from a store. Dan smirks on camera against his fellow councilmembers and constituents and thinks we won't see? What a jerk.
STR weren't you going to make an announcement about Dan Garodnick about how he should never be in any office?
Yeah, but let's see what he does after his time as City Councilman is up. I just don't want to get sick.
Yeah the repuplicans honestly think your are a piece of shit communist/welfare recipient for living in RS housing and will do everything in their power to put you out on the street....but keep voting for them because of their honesty.
"will vote Republican from now on because at least they don't pretend to be on the side of the lower income and middle class people. They are honest bastards whereas the likes of DeB and Garodnick and Mark-Viverito are wolves in sheeps clothing"
12.10 PM, good reply to this, thanks.
10.18 PM, let me explain the logic of your position with an example.
Since I’m in jail for a 20 year sentence, I think I will drop the guy I’m currently with who only sodomizes me once a day for the new guy with the bigger tattoos who will then sodomize me ten times a days.
“I hate that odious little man and I hate DeBlasio, too. DeBlasio's supposedly "progressive" policies have done nothing for the low and middle income people of this city.”
There's some major issues with dB (not progressive enough for me, always frigging late, etc) but I guess as I posted on another thread in this blog, that one year lease rate of ZERO percent truly sucks. I guess you are going to reject it and pay one of Bloomturd’s past RGB % increases just to prove your point that dB sucks.
BTW, not a fan of Garodnick, nor this law. Like Prohibition, good intentions but just a "feel good" law that will backfire and, of course, will hit the working/ middle class of this city.
I think this law is targeted at the wrong people. People who take their groceries home in these plastic bags use and re-use them as garbage bags and other useful purposes. The people who toss them in the street, so they end up in the trees and gutters, etc., are those who get them with take out food, which they eat in the street and then discard the bag. The take out food bags will not be taxed. Even if those take-away food shoppers put the bags in the trash bins, they often get pulled out by the homeless people who are scavenging through the trash bins for bottles and cans. I've actually seen both scenarios take place - noshers throw them away and trash bins scavengers toss them aside and into the street. As usual, the regular folk who just want to take their friggin' shopping home in plastic bags rather than yucky re-usable bags get penalized. Those re-usable bags get very dirty very fast.

Another real estate deal where the City Council and City Hall and Attorney General have all been tied to and are all of them now say they are investigating. Are they investigating themselves?
TAX, TAX, TAX TAX TAX.
TAX, TAX, TAX TAX TAX.
The first thing these corrupt politicians want you to know is that it is not a tax but a fee. This is a whole new twist on bribe taking brought to us by the progressive wing of the Democratic party. The scam here is first the owners and top employees of the retailers, set to profit big on the plan, bribe the politicians. Then the politicians vote the plan in. Then the retailers profit over 90% on each bag they sell via this fee. Then the business owners give the politicians annual bribes using a portion of the money the thieves in the city council allowed them to steal from residents and tourists alike. This way the corruption is automated, it is actually a criminally brilliant plan. If only these corrupt individuals would put their ingenuity towards good instead of evil.....well then they wouldn't be politicians I guess. Thanks Dan, Melissa, Brad and Margaret, I hope to be sending you email in prison soon!!
