No comment, yet

The latest news is that two suicides happened in our complex. A few things I could say. Angry things. Probably not the time, though.

We should know more this week.

  1. I will say that I don't think it is a Stuy Town kind of thing. There's a lot that is wrong in our world and, yes, some of it is just related to problems a person may have that are his or her own. If the info is true, there will probably have to be an outreach program for this community.

  2. And some people who work for Management and Public Safety should not be dealing with any public. My highest anger has arisen from talking to one or the other at times. Not talking to all people there, for sure, but some of them.

  3. NY Post article on the jumper doesn’t say Stuyvesant Town. I really hope this is just because it’s a preliminary report, and not that they are protecting any certain interests. The next report will probably say Gramercy or the East Village!

  4. We will the truth out. If they try any sly stuff we will put them. Bigly.

  5. Management certainly does not want the information spread freely that there were 3 suicides this year already, if all have been verified as suicides. That said, Management does not want suicides from a human and humane perspective, too. And that is why Management will say something.

But I still remember that last year there was an attempted rape and murder in one of our buildings (10 minutes or so and never seen by our publicized cameras), and that PS wanted to keep it as quiet as possible.

  6. Says on Daily News it was lady in Peter Cooper. 76 yr old.
There was also a suicide at 451 in Sty. Some hazmat stuff involved. Don't know any details.

  7. One of the purported suicides was a NYU student. Far too young to think that it is all over.

  8. Let's not forget the idiot judge who blew off the top of 21 SO and almost killed a whole bunch of people in the process, and LIVED !.

  9. Another possibility is that it's drug-related, as in a meth lab. There have been meth labs in ST in the past.

  12. Two residents of the adjoining Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village developments committed suicide just hours apart on Sunday — a 76-year-old woman who jumped from a building and an 18-year-old NYU student who ingested a chemical.

Just after 8 a.m., the woman jumped to her death from her apartment on the 10th floor of a building on First Ave. near 20th St. in Peter Cooper Village on Manhattan’s East Side.

She died at the scene. Police did not release her name.

Less than five hours later and under a half mile away, police officers rushed to the Stuy Town apartment of an NYU freshman. A panicked friend of the 18-year-old student had called the cops, saying his friend had plans to kill himself.

2 women leap to deaths in separate suspected suicides in NYC
The 18-year-old NYU student took his own life by ingesting a substance in his Stuyvesant Town home, according to police.

By the time cops arrived at the man’s apartment on 14th St. near First Ave. about 12:40 p.m., it was already too late.

The teen was lifeless after taking a substance, police said. He had left a suicide note. Police did not immediately identify him.

The city medical examiner’s office will investigate both deaths.

  18. I wonder if the elderly lady was being harassed by Management because the bloodsuckers were salivating to get her apartment and turn it into a dorm. I'm sure Management pops a champagne cork everytime an older person in an unrenovated apartment expires.

  19. First of all, I am truly saddened by the two suicides.
Life is the most precious gift.
May the two souls rest in peace.
Second, it will be very interesting to see the coverage, if any, the Town & Village weekly gives to this awful event.
My intuitive belief that it will be treated very lightly or even ignored by this "rag", masquerading as a newspaper, basically a shill for management.
    Hopefully I will be mistaken.

  20. I'm pretty sure Blackstone is thinking...hmmm, sad news, OK, now lets renovate those apartments and get some college to buck up for them...win, win....

  21. I live on the main floor by one of the pickle jars. For years, I have been complaining about the CO2 coming from the garages. Management needs to assure people there isn't an issue here or it's time for a class action lawsuit, no TA involvement requested!

  22. The T&V article says the 18 year old ingested sulphuric acid. Not too many reasons to have that laying around. Chemistry student? Another meth lab? The mind boggles.

This has nothing to do with the management company. Only conspiracy theorists here would tie the two together. I've lived in other parts of the city where these kind of tragedies have happened. And no one, NO ONE, has said "OMG I can't live in that building. The management company is doing in it's residents." You're being silly.

I don’t read the post you are talking about as this whole management conspiracy theory thing. I think their post was pretty straight forward actually- they hope the negative press from these suicides comes back to bite them in the ass for all the previous and current misjustices that tenants are facing (heat, noise, transients, etc).

Unfortunately I believe that there will be no further bad press. I’m pretty sure that the press on these two suicides is done. However, I did hear two students talking in the elevator that all of NYU got an email blast about the suicide (protocol), and it mentioned Stuy Town in the email. Maybe the negative press will push students away from here as they look for their 2018-2019 housing options???

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think management drove them too it but its more bad press for them. the sulfuric acid guy--anyone in possession of that must have known it would affect whoever came into the room after he died. not too sympathetic to that one--sounds like he was trying to take some 1st responders with him. or maybe just the total self absorption of the clinically depressed person.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Why did that kid have sulfuric acid in his apartment? Was he trying to take out other people with him by using such a toxic substance that could have killed other people and not just himself?

  31. https://www1.nyc.gov/site/buildings/safety/tenant-protection-plan.page

According to the "Community Update" we received this month, it says that landlords are "required to post a notice on every floor of every building if certain types of construction are taking place." Fine. That I understand. The update continues to say that STPS has "elected to post this notice permanently on each floor," with the signs next to the elevator. Permanently? To me, that means, basically, forever. Do I have something wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Suicides are always sad events but this one with the sulfuric acid is suspicious. It further proves the point that this management is playing with fire renting to anyone and especially with this dorm transient renting. They don’t screen and I hope that bad publicity comes their greedy way

    ReplyDelete
  33. STR, it means that the construction, toxic air from construction, noise and disruption from construction is going to be a permanent part of the living conditions on the property. There will be no reprieve or relief from the ongoing building site ambience of this churned and raped property. I don't know how anybody with knowledge of what it is like to live here can move in unless they are very, very masochistic and have the desire to damage their and their family's health.

Lack of heat, noise, filth, toxic air and constant rent increases, all at the hands of a bloodsucking corporate landlord and it's inept and incompetent "management" is what you get for your hard-earned dollars in The Sty. I think they will, sooner rather than later, tear the dump down. The land is valuable. Human life, not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Forever is a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 12:17 PM, I agree. There definitely needs to be more screening and oversight by Management as to who they are renting to. Unfortunately, some people who want to kill themselves don't really care if they take out other people at the same time - case in point, that idiot who tried to gas himself and blew up part of a building in the Oval. Unfortunately, the emotionally disturbed, even dangerously mentally ill, are among us everywhere. There were suicides when MetLife ran the show and quite a few VERY disturbed tenants living here and it was hard for the landlord to get rid of them. At least MetLife did try to screen incoming tenants and, because there was a waiting list and few people moved out, there was not the constant churn of people. Now we have a whole new crowd moving in every month. Add to that all the transients and AirBnB people, we really have not much more knowledge of who our neighbors are than we have of the people we share a subway car with. In fact, Stuyvesant Town and PCV remind me very much of a crowded subway car. Crowds of strangers and a churn at almost every station, especially the nexus stations. You would think (hope) we could expect better when paying rent rather than fare. Unfortunately, not the case.

So long as an applicant can pay the rent they pass muster.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well said 12:39. This construction is a permanent part of life here due to the monthly, bi-annual, and annual churning of apartments here.Although posters on the TA site have said that turnover is a way of life in NYC, this dump takes the cake for apartment churning.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Still waiting for Hayduk’s phony e-mail.

You’ll be waiting a long, long time for that. From Mgmt’s perspective, this, like the 628 rape, is something you want people to forget, so the less mention the better.

  39. I know many, many people who live in apartments in NYC and none, repeat NONE, of them experience the constant churning that this place does. This place is like a short-stay hotel. Apart from the instability that this brings to the community as a whole, it is extremely bad for the environment. The constant emptying of apartments and all the stuff that has to be carted away PLUS the environmentally hazardous shit that is pulled out of apartments when they renovate, do-over, whatever they do that has to be pulled out and carted away. Management wants us to recycle and compost, but compared to the massive amounts of garbage generated by monthly moves-in and moves-out, those programs only cover a miniscule amount of landfill garbage generated. Management is not interested in making this a stable residential community where people will settle either for a few years or for the long term. Management is only interested in churning and turning this place into a dorm/hotel/tourist accommodation enterprise. I have literally lost count of how many different neighbors I've had on my floor. I feel like I'm living in a utility apartment or dorm. In fact, I feel like the odd one out because I have been here for several years and have no plans to move out until I die or hit the lotto, whichever comes first.

I would never, ever recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an apartment, not even friends' kids looking for off-campus dorm accommodation. It is neither a dorm nor a residential complex anymore. It has none of the benefits of either and we have a stupid management team, headed by a guy who ran a resort in Boca and is hasn't made the transition into being a real property manager. I was down in Boca once and it seemed to me that it was a place where the not-so-affluent old New Yorkers migrate to. It's not exactly the Retirement Jewel of the State of Florida and is rather cheesy, but even if it were Mar-a-Largo anyone who managed there would not be the right person to manage here!

  41. Recently we became aware we are paying more than the same for better flats here which are new and in a more prime location on the property. Aand we've been here since 2010. We set a meeting with the office, called Rick, no reply, email Rick, no reply about this. Why should I pay more? We were told No to any decrease or have rent stable.same for our renewal which is in May. There seems to be a tough, too bad, move out from this landlord.

  42. Three suicides this year alone and it is only March 14. Tammany Hall Mayor DEBLASIO sold the once stable community out to his developer friends in 2015 and now new and old tenants are suffering for it. Tammany Hall Mayor DEBLASIO is selling out the entire city to his developer friends. There are at least two more pieces of public land in the lower East Side that Tammany Hall Mayor DEBLASIO sold for $1.00 to Moelis L&M development. 596 Acres, a nonprofit organization which advocates for the transformation of vacant lots into community green spaces and spaces for civic engagement is tracking all of Tammany Hall Mayor DEBLASIO's give-aways to his developer friends like Moelis. Wasn't Moelis part of Tammany Hall Mayor DEBLASIO's deal here?

  43. Why am I not surprised that Town and Village quickly flushed the suicide story down the pipe??? Instead of it being at the top of the page, they quickly put up other stories to push it down the page (or page 2 if on mobile).

So now they can say that they posted an article about it, but don’t need to explain the fact that they posted stories that could have waited a few days to post, which could have kept the suicides in the limelight a little longer. I’m a huge proponent for SBJSA, but that article was not necessary minutes after the suicide story came out.

We haven’t heard anything from rick, other than his short comment in T&V (the management paper), and I expect it to stay that way. The amount of hush-hush on this property about serious matters (rapes, crime, fires, suicides) is extremely concerning.

    ReplyDelete
  44. These suicides occurred just this weekend. I hope there will be more said from official sources around here. That is what I expect, but I am also a disappointed realist.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Though the TA Facebook can be engaged by members, it is disheartening, but not unexpected, that the top post is a "pinned" one that has nothing to do with these suicides. I have to go down several posts before one gets to the helicopter incident. The suicides? I just don't have the time or heart to keep on going down and down, but I will note that some members are more interested about Pilates than in two suicides in one day.

    ReplyDelete
  46. And that, dear friends, is the state of our "community."

    ReplyDelete
  47. Some people don’t want to deal with the depressing news of suicides, and I’m fine with that, it’s understandable. At the same time, it is important news to know what’s going on around here.

What if someone was away for a long weekend, and comes home and checks the TA Facebook or T&V?? The stories are already so far down the pipe that many many people will miss the stories altogether. There are some things that need to remain at the forefront on these sites, and this is one of them. The admins have the ability to keep them at the top of the page, however, they choose not too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I actually thought that Hayduk would put out one of his e-mails , giving sympathy for the suicides. I guess the NYU one is bad publicity as they try to minimize the student rental explosion here. As for de Blasio and the city. I still maintain that they are subsidizing renters here. My next door neighbors who I know are not paying over 3 grand monthly have been in residence over a year and a half. Everyone else was priced out after a year. They began setting up a church, moved in under a different name on the board, were running a boardinghouse until I reported it and asked a neighbor if there were sliding scales on rent here. In addition they were visited by public assistance. It is a no brainer. Blackstone is definitely in cahoots with the city besides being In cahoots with colleges, tourist associations , Air bnb And goodness knows what else.

  50. Suicides are very tragic occurrences and leave family and friends in a great deal of pain and grief. Maybe, just maybe, Management and T&V are respecting the feelings of the families of the deceased and not revealing too much detail. It's only sheer morbid nosiness that makes people want all the gory details. That said, I would like to know how and why the NYU kid who killed himself had sulfuric acid in his apartment. That is very worrying.

Btw, I've lived here for almost 40 years and there have been suicides from time to time. T&V never prints details and I don't think they should.

ENOUGH ALREADY! I am against management’s ways as much as the next guy, but this is ridiculous. 407 First Avenue is the building that was constructed for SVA on 24th and First. Blackstone owns this property, and it would be massive news if it had changed.

Now the question I have is whether the NYU suicide was in an NYU bulk lease, or if it was a stand alone lease (guaranteed by parents). If I had been in that building and got sick or hurt from that student’s idiocy, Blackstone would have been hearing from my attorney. If it were an NYU bulk lease, they too could be held liable. Hopefully Rick and crew revisit their bulk leases if this was in fact in a bulk lease. Unfortunately I don’t think much could be done either way.

I don't think anyone wants "the gory details." Just something that doesn't seem like "move along, nothing to see here." I was living here for 30 years or so. Three suicides in a brand new year? Never heard of this. Have you heard differently?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree STR. I don’t want gory details. However, I want information. Management has released ZERO information, other than a small quote in T&V from Rick. T&V is read by maybe 10% (tops) of the residents, meaning 90% or so dont even know that Rick made a statement, which included very important information about social worker access on the property.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Both deaths are very sad and unfortunate, but seem quite explainable or understandable. Life can really suck for people at some point in time. May they rest in peace.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Life is much more stressful now than it was a few years ago. Three suicides in the first three months of the year is quite alarming. These tragedies happen, but they are usually few and far between. Life in PCVST is a lot more stressful now because it has become such a transient community and management is breathing down the necks of the elderly, waiting for them to die. If you are an elderly person and have lost a lot of friends and neighbors who used to be part of a community you were a member of, I guess loneliness and depression could be overwhelming. The other two suicides were younger people, especially the NYU student. Depression is a horrific illness that is so very misunderstood and misdiagnosed and it can afflict anybody regardless of age, financial status, etc. The elderly who suffer from depression often have other problems that could be factored in: illness such as Parkininsons, Alzheimers, severe pain from arthritic conditions, etc., as well as loneliness. When you are elderly and not well and are surrounded by constant noise - something all we tenants are forced to endure now - and the knowledge that the LL wants you dead, it could put you over the edge. No pun intended.

I've reported neighbors who are running a business to 311. that was around 6 months ago, or more.
(what do you think has happened since then??? :) yep, nothing whatsoever. 311 doesn't give a shit about the laws that are broken here, either. and I wouldn't necessarily have reported them but these are truly awful neighbors)

    ReplyDelete
  59. The fact that the NYU student had sulfuric acid in his apartment is very disconcerting. It would not surprise me to find other dangerous substances in many of these apartments. These lax renting policies are putting us all in danger. Instead of putting up signs and promoting crappy non-amenities Blackstone needs to screen and inspect. This place is becoming more and more of a hazardous dorm hotel dump.

  60. >>The idea that residents are owed any details is the dumbest complaint ever lodged at any owner. Good grief. Say a prayer for the poor souls and their families and friends and be grateful for your blessings.<<

I don't understand this comment. As has been explained, no one is asking for "the gory details."

I don't know. If it was me, and I was head of this property, I would be troubled for those suicides and concerned. I still believe that is so, but we will see whether "move along" is a policy that is almost instantaneous.

Also I find the comment to be "grateful for your blessings" to be insulting and demeaning. You don't know anyone's "blessings" or otherwise, unless you are God, and somehow I don't think you are.

    ReplyDelete
  61. One can also find mention of the mugging incident on top of the first blog page. Blackstone and Company wished to hush it up real quick. It's the "hushing" that is the problem. I can understand where trying to "sell" the property is a concern. But we are also human and, supposedly, part of a "community." So there are other concerns, as well. This is where a viable TA comes in. But the TA is no more, really.

  65. 3/14 8:59 I reported the boardinghouse to the ST management office. I also told them at the time it appeared they were setting up a church. Of course they denied everything but the influx of people stopped, the cross was removed from the window and they changed the name on the board downstairs to the actual residents. They are not noisy but it falls me that families are being priced out or paying sky high rents for the same apartments while others are being subsidized. Of course Blackstone will deny this but it is happening.

    ReplyDelete
  66. They have historically given a little more information when somebody has committed suicide on the property, e.g., name and age of the person and some little non-intrusive blurb about the person. Unfortunately, Management and T&V now have a policy of not revealing much of anything negative that happens on the property. We get all the details of muggings, murders, robberies, sex deviants, etc., that occur around Union Square and thereabouts, but it's all very hush hush when it comes to anything negative that happens here on the property. And I don't believe it's out of respect for anybody's privacy.

The strange thing is that when T&V was run by Charles Hagedorn, who was a spiteful, vindictive man as ever lived, EVERY detail, including names, addresses etc., was reported when something bad happened! I remember reading that a man had put a shotgun in his mouth and blown his head off right in front of his wife and that he had recently been fired from Con Ed. Other things that happened were reported in great detail with no respect for anybody's feelings. And if somebody complained about management, Mr. Hagedorn would go after them like pitbull - go after the tenants, that is, not management!

It seems that T&V has made a 180 degree turnaround. Nobody should be shamed and embarrassed the way Mr. Hagedorn used to enjoy doing, but I think we could be given a little bit of information as to the tragedies. Was the elderly lady sick or had she suffered a recent tribulation of some sort. Why did the NYU kid have dangerous chemicals in his apartment? How is the person who was taken to the hospital in critical condition?
A little basic, non-intrusive information would definitely go a long way toward making us think that Management is always trying to hush up the bad things that happen here, while touting the "entertainment" and "amenities" in its desperate attempt to take our minds off all that is lacking here!

  68. 6:16, you know what this tells me? It gives me the name of one of the bulk lease representatives on this property, probably the SVA bulk lease, since this company seems to do business with SVA. They are bulk lease “owners,” just as you an I are lease “owners,” but they do not own any stake in this property itself.

  81. Let's face it, this place has gone to hell after being sold to the avaricious and morally bankrupt Tishman Speyer. After that came CW and Compass Rock who were just as bad. Then Garodnick and DeBlasio (the reincarnations of Boss Tweed) sold us to Blackstone. Blackstone is an evil, predatory, amoral, bloodsucking cabal and the principals of which would sell their souls for a few bucks. They have no conscience, no ethics and are the scum of the earth. Their veneer of respectability soon wears off when you have to deal with them.

It's everybody for themselves these days. Voting for this one or that one doesn't help. They are all corrupt. Just look out for yourself and don't count on any kind of help or honesty from Management, the TA or any of our elected officials. "the first suicide was the man who worked for stuytown installing our kitchen cabinets"

    -----

T&V had no problem identifying the 01/18 suicide victim.

    https://town-village.com/2018/01/29/man-jumps-from-stuy-town-building/

"Man who jumped from Stuy Town roof has died"

Pending official notification to relatives, it is not inappropriate for news media to publish names of suicide victims (or adults charged with crimes). Absent public obituary, a news media identification can actually perform a service function. Over time, seniors often become isolated and lose contact with one another due to inactivity, lack of mobility, home confinement, dementia, etc. The 76-year-old woman jumping to her death from her PCV apartment probably resided there for decades and it's likely she had numerous PCVST resident friends/acquaintances that, if only made aware of her death, would make an effort to attend wake/funeral services or send condolences to her family .

    ReplyDelete
  88. It really is up the individual to do the work and do the work and do the work. The landlord, in this case Blackstone, knows that it can take time and a lot of effort to even get the minimal things done. 92. Please do continue, STR. You are our only voice of truth. The TA is owned by Management, as is T&V.

I have no heat today and have to use space heaters. They don't care. Probably, they are hoping that it cause seniors to get sick and die and if people are uncomfortable, they won't want to renew their leases. I've even heard some of the students complaining about the heat, but they probably don't care too much because they are young and are here temporarily.

This is a bloodsucking disaster of a management and Rick and his crowd can go to hell.

    "TEEN ARRESTED FOR STALKING EX-GIRLFRIEND
Police arrested a teenager for aggravated harassment, assault and harassment inside the 13th precinct last Tuesday at 10:40 a.m. Police said that the suspect and the victim were in a relationship but broke up and the suspect repeatedly sent messages to the victim, so she blocked him. The victim also told police that multiple friends of the suspect told her that while he was playing with knives, he said he was going to get her and hurt her.
Police said that the suspect has also been seen multiple times waiting outside the victim’s school to the point where the school had to keep her inside the building and ask the suspect to leave the block. The teen also reportedly posted a photo online of her building to warn her that he’s watching her. The teen’s name is being withheld due to his young age. Police had no further information about where specifically the incident took place."

Was a crime reported inside PCVST?

  133. To continue: Management is mostly interested in selling and "upgrading" apartments here. Violations of the rules, whatever they are, are of concern, but not, from what I see and experience, a priority. Some changes are good, considering our residents are changeable and some (a lot?) are temporary. Unfortunately, I still get the same answers from Management or PS over and over again. These answers are not to the point. The answers are evasive. But this also depends on the person doing the talking. Evasive or, depending on the person and his/her mood, insulting. The upshot is that residents (myself included) tend to give up and just take things as they are. A win for Management.

I totally agree. We have a right to know how and when he got the stuff into his apartment and I would like to know about the person who was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Was it one of his room mates? There are ways of find this stuff out if one has the time and endurance. Certain information is a matter of public record, but can be a pain in the ass to find. I feel sorry for the guy and his family, but we are most certainly owed a bit more information as this is something that affected more than just the guy who killed himself. The fact that this place has been turned into a dorm with no supervision or rules-enforcement, is dangerous to all of us.

I would also like to know who was the elderly lady who jumped from her window and why she did it. Maybe she was ill and in pain or depressed. I wonder if the deteriorating conditions of this place, plus the fact that the landlord is closely watching the seniors, but not in a good way. Management wants everybody who is an elderly real rent stabilized tenant to die. The moment such a person dies, management is in their apartment before rigor mortis sets in. I've seen it happen.

  152. ThAT IS one expensive stinking rotten city hall. $14,000,000 million dollars of taxpayer dollars for defending Mayor and his aides on corruption charges that were questionably and abruptly dropped. That is a big pile of $14,000,000 million dollars of bullshit.

  154. What tenant’s association?

    ReplyDelete
  155. This TA we have has vanished off the face of this earth. Want to know why? Because the are virtually powerless. Guess who has ALL the power. That's why this place gets worse, each and every day. Imagine one day, every apartment here is going for a minimum of $4,500? That's insane. Thanks to "corrupt" Gov. Cuomo. Can't STAND HIM!

  156. 33 degrees and no heat since early morning. I hate these fucking bastards.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Now this management has the nerve to sell clothing items advertising the Sty. Who would want to wear these things advertising this dump. And they are making a profit. They need to sell shirts with pig sties on them

    ReplyDelete
  158. It was so cold in my apartment all day up until 6:30pm when the heat finally came on, and it was not at full blast. It is just unreal living here. Walking around with a sweatshirt on is absurd. ABSURD! My toes and hands were actually very cold.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I was so damned cold all morning that I have had to put two space heaters on. This management has no shame. No decency. There are elderly people, little babies, sick people. They are the ones who suffer the most and are endangered by the lack of heat. I'm in my forties and am very healthy, but I am feeling the cold very keenly. My feet were like blocks of ice before I relented and put the the space heaters on. I'm on a low floor and I know that my neighbors are cold too. Maybe on the high floors the people are comfortable. This is one helluva lousy, inferior heating system they have here. Guess it's to be expected seeing as we have a lousy, inferior management company. Blackstone is famous (infamous) for mistreating its tenants everywhere it owns property.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Did anyone see the article in the T&V blog about the TA Treasurer and his neighbor, the Blackstone bigwig? Just about blows their lies out of the water when it comes to their not knowing about the deal before hand. I bet they profited from it too. There should be a formal inquiry into the TA and their conflicts of interest with the tenancy. They need to be forced to open their books and show where their money comes from and where it goes.

    ReplyDelete
  161. So sad that we no longer have a TA anymore to launch a class action suit against Blackstone for lack of heat. I get plenty of heat but if I didn’t I would certainly see a lawyer. Shame that they are getting away with this

    ReplyDelete
  162. We all know the TA had nothing to do with Blackstone buying this place:

    ReplyDelete
  163. The time to have fought for the property was in between ownership by the Speyer Family and now the Blackstone and Ivanhoe Cambridge corporations, during the special servicer Fortress Compass Rock CW Capital years under Fred Knapp and David Woodward. It is a little too late to do anything now. The TA blew it, blew any chance of ubiquitous tenant ownership with their greedy developer partners Brookfield, Paul Weiss and Moelis. Open the books and show us the TA ownership perks from selling out to Blackstone with years of tireless work by volunteers. Come clean or stay dirty. One way or another the truth will come out.

  164. "My feet were like blocks of ice before I relented and put the the space heaters on."
You bought space heaters (ostensibly) to keep warm, so you waited until your"feet were like blocks of ice" to relent and put them on? That doesn't make sense. Don't get me wrong, I have space heaters too, but they're pretty much on all fall and winter. Such is life with these ghouls owning the property. We don't pay for electricity, why would you hesitate to use the heaters you purchased?

    ReplyDelete
  165. Can we use the Freedom of Information Act to make the TA open its books?

    ReplyDelete
  166. Let's open the TA books and see what a TA Board member lawyer - former-assistant district-attorney with a house in the Hamptons near Blackstone executives has been up to with Dan Garodnick in order to make the Blackstone deal happen. The District Attorney office is under investigations for threats and intimidation tactics on women that wealthy powerful men want to terrorize.

    Time's Up Vance.

Let us hope Time's Up for the StuyTown Tenant Association Board too.

Of course the StuyTown Treasurer of the TA has a house in the Hamptons. Let's see if he has the nerve to operate with integrity. Let's open Hamptons / StuyTown Treasurer Sheehy's StuyTown Tenant Association accounting books.

Let us hope Time's Up for the StuyTown Board really soon.

  167. A word of caution, something I have stated before. Political posts that are national (primarily) are dissuaded here. Local politics is generally fine, unless the comment is over-the-top. Some comments I can agree with, but some are of the "flame" variety, and I can't let them pass. I don't pass everything, btw.

    ReplyDelete
  168. The Town & Village report about the TA and Blackstone connection (houses in the Hamptons, really?) are disheartening, for sure. I can't believe that the TA treasurer would let this pass, but I guess he doesn't care anymore.

As I said, we are on our own. The TA is useless, and the summation is probably more negative than that.

  170. In response to the poster talking about using heaters, heaters can be dangerous. No reason why tenants here have to resort to using them, especially given the high rents. This place is worse than city housing because there is no oversight. Blackstone needs to be exposed for what it is, a slum landlord posing as a luxury housing manager

    ReplyDelete
  171. Open the books Sheehy!! Did the Roberts Settlement money go towards your Hamptons house mortgage? Until you open the books, I think that’s a fair assumption.

    ReplyDelete
  173. @ 12:48 AM, some people have little kids and pets and space heaters are not safe around such. Space heaters are what people use as a last resort when they have a slumlord landlord who doesnpt supply heat (or adequate heat).

  174. "My feet were like blocks of ice before I relented and put the the space heaters on."

My thoughts were like cats in a bag before I relented and put the comments on this thread.

  175. Is interesting or rather despicable how Peter Stuyvesant on the blog never responds to heat posts except once they mentioned the bogus management thermometer scheme. Shows that they are in with management. What a farce to call this a tenants association.

  176. There always tends to be a lot more dog shit in and around stytown when it snows. Even more so then the usual amounts of piles of shit throughout the property. Don't forget to look down!

    ReplyDelete
  177. I agree with 3/21 11:55. Space heaters are the mark of slum landlords and city housing. The fact that tenants have to use them here and that Blackstone advocated their use is despicable.

    ReplyDelete
  178. On this snow day, the residents on my floor dump their wet shoes and sleds in the hall. Why they can’t bring them in and dry them on a piece of newspaper is beyond me. Typical sty behavior.

  179. According to real estate websites Tenant Association Board Member John Sheehy's Hamptons House is valued around $5,000,000.00 5 million dollars which of course is in addition to Tenant Assocaition Board Member John Sheehy's 6 Peter Cooper Rd, Apt 14G, New York, NY 10010 apartment (which according to some is occupied by the Fletchers and not the Sheehys)

Next door at 12 Marina Ln, East Hampton, NY 11937 is ACACIA Hampton LLC Blackstone executive AJ Argarwal's home valued around $4.6 million dollars

Just something to keep in mind as we learn more about the Tenant Association Board Members.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Tenant Association Board Member John Sheehy has owned his multi-million dollar Hamptons House since 1972. Records have Mr Sheehy getting the Peter Cooper Lease in 1994. The house came first which makes it less likely to be a "part time summer house" and makes the Peter Cooper apartment to be the second home and not the primary home.

Why did Tenant Association Board Member John Sheehy take on a second home in New York City Peter Cooper Village in 1994? What is the significance of 1994? What else happened in 1994?

How did lawyer John Sheehy, who knows what is legal and what is illegal, take on a Peter Cooper Village rent stabilized apartment second home in addition to his $5 million Hamptons home he already had since 1972?

This guy, John Sheehy, is bragging he is behind the Blackstone Ivanhoe Cambridge deal. There are a lot more details to this story then are laid out in the Town & Village piece.

    ReplyDelete
  181. That article in Town & Village on John Sheehy and Blackstone is fishy. The details on the explantion of the combined apartment market rate rent is a little "me thinks thou dost protest too much"

    ReplyDelete
  182. The Town & Village article on the Garodnick meeting with Blackstone reads like a preemptive strike because some of the things reported are not exactly how or when they happened like when Brookfield parted with us on the condo conversion. Its not how it happened.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Don't use the oven for heating. Get a space heater. Ovens give of carbon monoxide.

    ReplyDelete
  184. do you report a tenant who is illegally subletting or let it go? This has not been a good nor safe floor.

    ReplyDelete
  185. According to the T&V Sheehy got the rent stabilized apartment in 1983.

Sheehy had the $5 mill house since 1972, before he got the lease on the 2 Peter Cooper Village combined apartment in 1983 at rent stabilized,. So the Hamptons house is the primary residence and the combo apartments in Peter Cooper Village is the secondary and according to Town & Village the Peter Cooper Village combined apartments went market rate in 1994. So the TA board /lawyer illegally obtained the two Peter Cooper Village apartments and for 11 years was as Rob Speyer says "gaming the system" getting the subsidized rent stabilized apartment from 1983 through 1994 while his primary residence since 1972 was a five million dollar house in East Hampton. If that is indicative of how he operates it is no surprise his fingerprints are on the Blackstone deal and less of a surprise the TA board lied about when they found out about a Blackstone deal.

  186. Been using my oven for years and I'm still here. Works for me. Thanks anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  187. It just goes to show how little we know about the Tenant Association and how much more they are hiding.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Again, I have no idea how the TA and Sheehy allowed this article to go to print. The lies that the TA has told us since the Blackstone deal happened have been exposed. Unfortunately the TA now has the backing of management, Blackstone, dirty politicians, and probably a fairly strong legal team, so we will never see the books or financials.

Any word who won that last TA “election?” They should all be ashamed when the walk around this place, but I guess that isn’t really a concern if you are never here and the only walking you do is in the Hamptons.

  193. For a long while, someone commenting on this blog was saying that Council Garodnick and the TA found out about the Blackstone deal last minute. Then someone on this blog pointed out that the TA was bragging in Town & Village about hard work for years to make the Blackstone deal happen. Now the latest story the TA is telling in Town & Village is that the Blackstone deal first came around in 2014 in East Hampton Long Island and Garodnick was in meetings with Blackstone, CW Compass Rock Fortress and the TA board member Sheehy for years before the deal closed but it was not hard work to make the deal, it just happened in passing. Three different stories on how the Blackstone deal closed including how Blackstone came about to be involved in the StuyTown property "in passing in the Hamptons" between millionaires living in million dollar houses who happen to cross paths lawyer John Sheehy and Investor Argawal.

    Bullshit.

Why not just come out with the truth about how the StuyTown deal evolved since the Tishman Speyer BlackRock MetLife 2006 overnight meeting. That for years before 2006 the politicians were working with MetLife leading up to the 2006 property sale on ways to justify demolition of the community.

The latest tale being spun by the TA in Town & Village is as stupid as the dumbest cover up in history.

    ReplyDelete
  194. From what I know (and I don't know about talks that are not public), the Blackstone deal was not known by the TA or Garodnick before it happened, though Dan likes to consider himself at the center of things. But, as I said, I don't know private deals or talks. The current info is new to me, as I'm sure it is for a lot of people.
