I see "the laws" disregarded all the time, despite the increased visible presence of PS officers. This morning, I saw, and took photos of, a mattress thrown out that is not properly wrapped for bedbugs. This mattress is different than the mattress I saw yesterday.
Also, what gives with placing a no-dog sign INSIDE the garden instead of near the fountain? The way it reads now (and there are two of these signs inside the garden), it can mean that a dog is not allowed in the garden. I've already seen infractions because the signs do not say what I think they mean. Unless this no-dog at the fountain rule has been discarded, the signs are not doing what they are supposed to be doing. Why is it that Management or Public Safety or anybody who works for Blackstone is not aware of this immediately?
-------
I found this interesting and amusing and, unfortunately, predictable.
Here is a screen shot from Town & Village:
According to Town & Village, this photo was taken at the Stuyvesant Town flea market. When was that? It was April 21st. When was election? April 24th. Aside from the assistant, who is also proclaiming Epstein to be a candidate? Who should not be in Stuyvesant Town proclaiming with buttons and pamphlets any political candidate?
STR himself saw Epstein workers inside Stuyvesant Town on Election Day. Who was near those workers and did not say anything until STR said something? Epstein and our new councilperson, Keith Powers.
The message is: NO ONE CARES. At least those in authority.
I am too embarrassed to invite people to visit me because of the slumification of the property. Mattresses strewen around the property (any property) is a sign of the lowest of low class. It's like having rusting cars, refrigerators, etc., in the yard! Maybe the Hillbillies move here, but Management shouldn't tolerate (or encourage) their disgusting behavior.
ReplyDeleteOMG! This place has become SO low class! The Management should focus more on raising the standards and cracking down on the violators and less on the arranging and promotion of silly "events."
ReplyDeleteThe once peaceful and pristine Stuyvesant Town has become a tacky, badly-run housing project. People are paying high rents to live here and this is what they get. Shame on you Rick Hayduk. You are NOT doing a good job. Your Little League efforts are admirable, but you are paid to run this property and make sure it is livable. You are failing in that area when you tolerate mattresses and other garbage to litter the landscape and refuse to enforce any of the many rules pertaining to the quality of life here.
We want a clean and safe living environment. Events and amenities are not what you should be your priorities. Maybe the above photographs should be featured in your promotions of the property because they are certainly more truthfully representative of the way it really is!
1:23
ReplyDeleteRick’s best work is in the PSLL Challenger division! He’s also pretty good at selling this place down the river. They are trying way too hard to cater to way to many people with their silly amenities and events.
Stuy Town was best when it was an actual quiet oasis. Now it is nothing more than a lawless, wannabe resort.
You will often see people sprawled out sunbathing on the little fenced-off areas, such as the one you photographed. The treat it as if it is their own, private little lawn and spread out their beach chairs, blankets, coolers, etc. Calling PS results in no action whatsoever. But then, PS is instructed to NOT enforce the rules. The only rule that is enforced here is paying the rent. So long as you pay your rent (the higher, the better), you can treat the place like your own private shithouse, lawn, party central .... do anything you want, just so long as you pay your rent. Keep a bucket of sulfuric acid in your apartment if that's your thing. I'm pretty sure this dump attracts so many students because it has a reputation for non-enforcement of rules. Except that the rent is paid!
ReplyDeleteSeen just a few minutes ago. Two PS officers ignoring the lanyard rule (the dogs had none), while keeping up with PS presence. This, of course, is not a rare event, but I will repeat it when I see it and when I am up to noting the same thing--yes, over and over again.
ReplyDeleteSTR, PS are window-dressing. Nothing more and nothing less. Sure they might respond if you have an emergency - "might" being the operative word - but they are not permitted to enforce rules or keep us safe. Management has cut their balls off. I wish they would get rid of Hayduk and give us a Manager who really knows how to Manage and not just bullshit. We don't want a resort. We want a safe and peaceful home. THAT is why we pay the high rents here. This is New York City. Plenty of entertainment off the property. Better entertainment. Real entertainment. Free and low-cost entertainment as well as the kind you pay real money for. We don't need the skeevy tenth-rate "entertainment" any more than we need the dog shit and discarded mattresses. This ain't Shitwood, Al or Urinal, AK. It also isn't a NYCHA property and that's what it is becoming more and more to resemble.
ReplyDeleteThis just hit my inbox, regarding paying rent by credit card..
ReplyDeletePlease note that the fees charged for credit card transactions are not collected by SPS and are collected directly by and strictly for the benefit of the third-party vendor responsible for processing your credit card transactions.
So, what about those “fees charged” by the “third party vendor” SPS contracted to handle the processing? Wanna let us know what those fees might be, or just pay now and SURPRISE!! later? And, also notice they state that it’s “your” credit card transaction. That’s right, THEY’RE getting YOUR money, but it’s “your” transaction, so don’t expect them to absorb any of the fees. Nice...
The credit charge fee is $40. At least it is for me. I hit cancel immediately!
ReplyDeleteWould not make a bit of difference who the manager is. Hayduk follows orders from management on how to run or not run this property. He is not on his own. He fulfills their purposes well.
ReplyDeleteI cannot begin to fathom why posters think
ReplyDeletethat Rick Hayduk operates independently and that another manager would do things differently . Just as Blackstone dictates the behaviors of PS, they also control their resident manager.
STR, thank you for posting photos of Stuy Town’s new Punching Stations! The Punching Stations are the latest amenities for residents who are mad as hell, can’t take it any more, and need anger management solutions! Slip and fall on dog feces in the elevator, again? There’s a Punching Station for that! Thought you’d open your window for fresh air only to be overcome by pot smoke? There’s a Punching Station for that! See another dead body floating in the Oval fountain? You guessed it! There’s a Punching Station for that! What will Stuy Town think of next?!
ReplyDeleteThere are no words to describe the anguish, stress, rage I feel living here.
ReplyDeleteIt is, however, good to read that some of us have some of it figured out.
I've concluded that: The bastards owning and running Blackstone are responsible for this. AND: many, if not most of the tree murderers, lawyers (remember that Shakespeare wrote: "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" in Henry VI), "management" folks are responsible.
In other words: the overlords living in plush surroundings are responsible for our escalating misery AND most of their appointees and employees are also responsible for our escalating misery.
To those of you who complain that Rick isn't doing his job: HE IS! DESTROYING THIS PLACE IS DEFINITELY HIS JOB.
Just for dessert: Does anyone else here believe that NYC's "government" is involved with the MTA --- is involved with concerns such as Blackstone --- in "repairing" the L tunnel WHILE SHUTTING DOWN ALL PRIVATE TRAFFIC AND BRINGING IN TENS OF THOUSANDS OF YUPPIE-TYPES BY FERRY SOON?
Does anyone here also believe that, as others wrote last year, all of 14th Street, from river to river, is being expropriated and destroyed by billionaires and their minions?
Yes indeedy, here we go again. The Tenant Association Board's PR firm, and also Blackstone's PR firm, Berlin Rosen is in the news. Blackstone and the Tenant Association Board sharing the same PR firm is wrong on so many levels as it is. But now, at the same time that Blackstone and the Tenant Association Board (and Dan Garodnick) were hammering out the StuyTown deal a lot of emails went back and forth between Berlin Rosen and City Hall. Berlin Rosen is also Dan Garodnick's PR firm, and 15 city council members like former head Melissa Mark Viverito and Brad Lander (councilman best known for 2012 Backpage prostitution ads hearing).
ReplyDeleteJust in, the Appellate Court ruled TODAY that City Hall has to release the emails between Berlin Rosen and City Hall.
For 3 years City Hall fought to keep it secret from the public. Why? Why hide the emails between Berlin Rosen and City Hall from the public Bill?
Then again, why is the Tenant Association Board hiding the accounting books?

Wow! This is fantastic 'outta da box' thinking by management! Those mattresses are for the benefit of all tenants at no additional charge! They will strategically place them throughout the 'campus' so that you can take a quick nap if you feel tired.
ReplyDeleteI'm not as young as I used to be and especially with the warm weather coming I might need to rest for a few minutes walking the property. Those benches are too hard for my comfort but those mattresses are a PERFECT solution.
Who cares about a few bed bugs or pee stains. I need my rest!
Thanks Rick! You're the best! You da Man!
https://nypost.com/2018/05/01/nyu-med-student-hangs-herself-in-dorm-room/
ReplyDeleteAnother NYU student committed suicide. This wasn’t on the property, but only a few blocks away. Stuy Town is mentioned in the article.
Bed-bug laden mattresses are the least of my concerns.
ReplyDeleteThey are being marketed by Rick as a Senior Citizen Rest Area Amenity.
What concerns me is that dog sh*t and pee in the stairwells, the stench of marijuana, the rugless incessant clomping and, of course, the occasional used condom strewn haphazardly by the mailboxes.
ReplyDeleteSTR himself saw Epstein workers inside Stuyvesant Town on Election Day. Who was near those workers and did not say anything until STR said something? Epstein and our new councilperson, Keith Powers.
The message is: NO ONE CARES. At least those in authority.
That is the message and it is by design. The message is those holding positions of authority do not care about tenants. They care about money and power. Those with money who put them in political offices of power are who they care about. Besides at his roots Powers is a lobbyist after all. Lobbyists funnel the money that finances and subsidizes the politicians.
Very sad about the NYU student. At least she didn't endanger the lives of hundreds of people by using sulfuric acid. Anyone know any further information about that case? Boggles the mind that sulfuric acid was on the property. This place really has sunk to the level of a shit pit.
ReplyDeleteSheldon Silver trial back on. This time around let us hope they get it right with a conviction, even though it is not for his crimes in the Lower East Side. Maybe that conviction will be saved for Sheldon Silver's number two guys in the Assembly of the past 30 years that Sheldon Silver kept the Lower East Side vacant for his developer pals for developments that include StuyTown.

ReplyDeletehttps://www.nyccfb.info/sites/default/files/20160706_FBD_Final_Board_Decision.pdf
Berlin Rosen and Hilltop had big roles in StuyTown, Airbnb (Berlin Rosen lobbied for Airbnb and Hilltop's Bill Hyers worked at Airbnb) so it is no wonder Airbnb operates all over StuyTown. This whole Campaign for One NY Pre-K and Affordable Housing is looking shadier everyday.
Epic fail by the government to go after and collect taxes from the wealthy. Just who are they going after if not the real deadbeats who owe tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands?

I too am curious to know more about the BUCKET of sulphuric acid involved in the recent suicide.
ReplyDeleteThe bucket of acid the NYU student had in the StuyTown apartment is a major concern that has gone unaddressed and covered up by the tenant association. That is a bigger concern.
ReplyDeletehow bout those overcharges
ReplyDeleteSeen this morning. I would say not even five minutes. Two outside dogs, with obviously no ST lanyards. Both were well inside Stuy Town. Stopped and escorted out? No way. Same as always. They were allowed to freely walk about the complex.
ReplyDeleteClearing out the tenant association board will clear up a lot of the problems in StuyTown. A better Board will actually represent tenant needs instead of this self serving fame seeking publicity hungry board. The results garnered by this board are abysmal.
ReplyDeleteThe largest tenant association in the country is the biggest failure in the country.

It is too late for Eddie Grace to be a whistleblower. You can't be a whistleblower and a perp. He was perp walked out for a reason. Any deal he makes to turn on these he worked with has no credibility. Its a little too little and a little too late for him to do any whistleblowing.
ReplyDelete10:28am
ReplyDeleteIf he has proof of any wrongdoings that could result in whistleblower status prior to his firing, that would still hold up. It would need to be clearly documented with date and time stamps from before he was fired. Unfortunately I doubt he has any of that, rendering this idea useless anyway.
On another note, with the hot weather hitting us with an early snippet of summer, it brings to light an issue that has been heavily discussed - the removal of trees. The once prominent shade that enveloped most of this property is quickly disappearing. Aside from the mass destruction at Playground 1, SPS is slowly but steadily removing a lot of trees from all over the property. I really worry about what this place is going to look like in a year.
The Challenger baseball division is great. Taking credit for it and using it to sell apartments is not so great. Does anyone associated with SPS or Blackstone have any character?
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell did Eddie Grace do that he got fired and perp walked out?
ReplyDeleteThere are two people named Sheehy on the TA Board. Are they related?
ReplyDeleteI see that Stuy Town is holding a free home buyers seminar, which includes a whooping $500 off closing costs.
ReplyDeleteThis event seems to take the cake. It’s basically saying get the hell out of here, we’ll even help you get the hell out! I’m sure the true rent stabilizers will be rushing to this event...
What over charges?
ReplyDeleteOpen the TA Board accounting books already, Sheehy.
ReplyDelete"The Challenger baseball division is great. Taking credit for it and using it to sell apartments is not so great. Does anyone associated with SPS or Blackstone have any character?"
ReplyDeleteNo, nobody at SPS or Blackstone has any character or decency. Blackstone is known for being an organization that is totally devoid of decency, ethics and morality. We see evidence of that every day.
Seen not too long after that Management tent in the Oval: That dog-walker, with a million dogs (you know him, he's a regular), and no blue lanyards on those dogs that I could see. He missed "the tent" by "that much"!
ReplyDeleteAnother fail by Management.
And what about those cameras that are supposed to see everything?

Airbnb Drives Up Rent Costs in Manhattan and Brooklyn, Report Says
FROM THE TIMES ARTICLE:
"Airbnb’s growing influence caused rents to increase significantly in tourist areas and gentrifying neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn, where the majority of the company’s rentals are concentrated..."
"The report said that Airbnb’s influence cost New Yorkers $616 million in additional rent in 2016 as a result of price pressures."
"Airbnb has more than 50,000 apartment listings in New York City, the company’s largest market in the United States. The comptroller’s report shed light on the clash of the so-called sharing economy with city neighborhoods struggling to preserve their stock of affordable housing and rein in skyrocketing rents ..."
"In 2014, about three-quarters of all Airbnb rentals in the city were found to be illegal, according to a report released that year by the New York attorney general, Eric T. Schneiderman."
"The attorney general’s report said Airbnb was dominated by operators with multiple listings, finding that 6 percent of the hosts made 37 percent of the revenue — or $168 million."
FROM THE NYC COMPTROLLER REPORT:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u4s1fcync2gseyl/AirBnB_Report%20FINAL.docx?dl=0
"AirBNB growth, however, was particularly high in certain neighborhoods ... The largest relative AirBNB effects on the rental market occurred in Chelsea, Clinton & Midtown Business District (21.6%) and Murray Hill, Gramercy & Stuyvesant Town (21.5%). Average monthly rents went up by in these neighborhoods by $398 and $488 respectively out of which $86 and $105 per month could be attributed to AirBNB growth."
Whatever happened to those students that the TA Board Kirstin Aadahl use to teach or meet with in 272 A? Is she still meeting with students there? What was that all about?
ReplyDelete"And what about those cameras that are supposed to see everything?"
ReplyDeleteSTR, surely you know that the cameras were installed strictly and solely for the purpose of downsizing PS and inflicting an MCI on tenants. The cameras don't work, aren't monitored and are just a sick joke on the community. We are being used and abused by bloodsucking bastards who have no consciences or morals. I include, of course, Rick the phony Mr. Nice Guy. God Damn DeBlasio and all the despicable enablers who inflicted Blackstone upon us. Their entire mission is to make us as miserable as possible, make as much money as possible and get us all OUT of here.

Don't think that this is a Stuy Town sponsored event. Anyone can rent Stuy Town's River Room and hold an event in that space.
The 1% are not smarter than us or better investors than us. They are a small group of people, a social clique, who are invested in each others companies and use political offices to make laws and business deals to enrich themselves. A look into Blackrock for example and where they are the biggest shareholder and then look into who is invested in those companies and you will see the same small Bloomberg clique and also the clique that is heavily invested in the demise of the Stuy Town community and destruction of the property for the development of hotel condos. Blackrock is the biggest shareholder in HSBC and WPP.
ReplyDeleteBottomline as investopedia says
Banks invest in each other.
That is how the 1% operate too. They invest in each other.
They are not investing in infrastructure or society or the economy, they are investing in each other. And a whole host of corrupt politicians long pass laws and make deals enabling the inequality we face today so that the 1% can keep investing in each other. Selling out this community and neighbors are those who were looking to get into the club. The Brookfield deal was never about tenant ownership, it was about the TA board getting richer by selling out the prize piece of real estate in Manhattan of 80 waterfront acres to the Bloomberg clique.
That is why so called economic development corporations are the most corrupt of entities, especially the NYC ECD. Every development they did made a small clique much richer, the Bloomberg clique. The same small group of people.

It is just a small social clique of like-minded investing in each other who had the benefit of two 3 term politicians Garodnick and Bloomberg using their public service offices for private gain. Garodnick even pushed out a Capalino lobbyist who thought he was a shoe-in for a big piece of the pie when Garodnick termed out but the StuyTown real estate deal had not broken ground in the planned 2013/4 time period and we got stuck with a councilman in a heightened mode to deliver for REBNY and the small clique for another 4 years from 2013 - 2017. Before 2015 when Capalino arranged for DEBLASIO to meet with the developer, and before Blackstone and Brookfield met with the developer in 2015; back in 2013 the HSBC chairman met with the same developer just after that developer announced he was breaking ground on a $1 billion NYC hotel.
In 2015, Garodnick believed he stepped up and pulled off what failed in 2013.
A picture is worth a thousand words. A list of largest shareholders of who is invested in the destruction of the Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village is even more valuable.

The 2015 developer photos with Blackstone, Brookfield and DE BLASIO were already posted by another commentator in an earlier STR post. It left off the key culprit invested in developing StuyTown and who was also just found guilty of being the largest financier of drug trafficking in the world. HSBC bank.
Bottomline, Bloomberg, Blackrock, Blackstone, HSBC, WPP, Royal Bank of Canada, JP Morgan, Fisher Asset Management llc, Pfizer, Fidelity, Louis Bacon's Moore Capital Management, etc are investing in each other and the politicians enabled, even empowered them to do so by robbing us and doing much worse to us. The article posted earlier on Steve Schwarzman's delusional mental state is shared by many in this group and the wannabes in political offices desperately trying to be in the group.
There has to be a reason why they are winding this place down and making it less and less of a real residential property. I think they have future plans that we should all prepare for. It's clear that they don't want it to bear any resemblance to the way it used to be and with the purpose for which it was built. No landlord deliberately makes a property more and more ugly and strive to keeps its tenants miserable if it wants to run a successful residential property.

Maybe the answer is in the TA Board PR firm's emails that the Mayor has spent 3 years in court desperately trying to cover up. The Mayor is going to extreme lengths to cover up what is in the emails. That demonstrates that he knows what he and they did and are doing is very bad and very wrong.

The StuyTown Tenant Association Board is to blame entirely for that. They never stopped any real, actual, operating hotels for over ten years. But they did claim on the record under oath to a hotel registry and bed bug registry that they analyzed drawing correlations. Let's see the John Marsh registries and studies and the conclusions and results from the John Marsh online bed bug - illegal hotel registry.

ReplyDeleteI have a different reading. It's even on my main page, atop. I think Blackstone wants this property to be a success. Financially and in the latest "improvements." They (Blackstone and Management) are going to herald any new improvements and upgrades while downplaying or even not mentioning the negatives, some of which you can read about here, the TA Facebook, and Yelp.
Of course, making money is a prime concern. That's why these apartments can get so high-priced, despite the fact that we are all rent-stabilized. Any negative will be met with an excuse and generally a smile. Rick (hi!) is perfect for this place.

ReplyDeleteYou have to ask yourself, why in one of the greatest "liberal" cities in America, this is happening.
That report from Stringer:
ReplyDelete--------------
Comptroller Stringer Report: NYC Renters Paid an Additional $616 Million in 2016 Due to Airbnb
Stringer report finds Airbnb responsible for nearly 10 percent of citywide rental increase between 2009 and 2016
Tenants in Murray Hill, Gramercy, Stuyvesant Town, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint pay an average of more than $100 per month in additional rent due to Airbnb listings
Airbnb exacerbating NYC’s affordability crisis
-------------
In this report, Comptroller Stringer sought to measure the “Airbnb effect” by the removal of units from the rental market because they were listed on Airbnb by the owners instead. The Comptroller’s office compared the growth in what rents would have been if there had been no Airbnb effect to what they actually were. Citywide, the report found that the loss of supply due to Airbnb listings drove rents up by an additional 9.2% between 2009 and 2016, after taking into account other factors that drive rent increases.

De Blasio's upper middle class "lottery winners" pay around $2-300/mo less than MR rent.
ReplyDeleteFactoring the illegal hotel "Airbnb Effect" and MR renter's free CATV/Internet amenity into the rent equation basically wipes out that differential.

I remember the day I stumbled upon the press conference in which the sick, and incredibly stupid pot-smoking current mayor, garodsick, susan-sell-you-out and others were speechifying about the wonderful sale-of-us to Blackstone, some of the most thoroughly rotten bastards on this poor besieged planet.
ReplyDeleteI asked, of all people, Lieutenant Edward V. Grace what the hell was going on. He was not too happy about this, either.
I knew then and there (October 2015) that WE WERE FINISHED.
I KNEW intuitively that the buildings, services, trees, any remaining decent quality of life was going to be savaged quite viciously.
I KNEW they would hurt us as badly as possible, while pulling the Orwellian doublespeak shit.
I KNEW their plan was to goddamn LEVEL THE BUILDINGS in order to build some other garbage on what was already a brown sight (contaminated) and built by Metropolitan Life Insurance by driving other human beings out of their homes decades ago.
They are going to raze this place. ALL of it. They will oust residents and the revolving cast of assholes (students, selfish/clueless "young families"), airbullshit & brazen theft [airb&b], corporate-bulk-lease temporary boarders, homeless types, insufferable young "professional" jackasses who behave like the student morons). EVERYONE WILL BE GONE.
Plans for this place and for all of 14th Street and the Rivers have been written about here more than once.
I am sorry that those who consider this their home (I moved here in the hot, hot 1980 summer) will bear the karma for those who built this place, who evicted people out of their homes. Perhaps it is just, on some other plane.
I do know that the sickness of people in real estate and politics and the like is increasing.

ReplyDeleteI can't agree. I don't love-love Blackstone (it is, after all, a company), but it has a job to do, and one of those jobs is to make sure that their residents are safe.

ReplyDeleteIn the distant future, I see all these buildings gone to be replaced with new high-rises. But that is a long ways off.

ReplyDeleteThis is happening because we are descending deeper and deeper into fascism in America.
Schools, health care, infrastructure being destroyed; neighborhoods destroyed; "divide and conquer" implemented; elimination of much of the middle class in order to create more poverty and more obscene "wealth."
When Reagan came in, there were already plans in place to eliminate public education and reduce health care for the non-wealthy, and other measures to consolidate "power" and turn us into a fascistic state. The nation was not ready for it at that time. Many elements made us ready by 2000 or so.
Technology can be a boon and in some cases, a life-enhancer and even a life-saver. Most of it, though, does a good deal of damage to the human brain itself, behavior, social interactions, mental health and the like.
It has allowed shocking invasions into our lives and thoughts and fueled the consumerism and monetization which has taken over this and other countries. It has helped destroy independent thinking, and certainly much of our population can no longer write, spell, and definitely not sit quietly in silence and THINK.
We are living in exceedingly ugly times and New York City, USA is among the ugliest of ugly places.
I remember it when it was not thus. I remember when there was a liberal, progressive, caring, unselfish value here. It is gone.
They are only making money because they are filling these high priced apartments with students, air bnb and city subsidized.
ReplyDelete1. The Stuy Town Tenant Association Board's Accounting Record Books are illegally kept secret and covered up.
ReplyDelete2. The Stuy Town Tenant Association Board and Blackstone's PR firm's emails with Mayor DE Blasio are kept secret and covered up but the StuyTown Tenant Association Board proudly keeps the video of the press conference of the Blackstone deal on the StuyTown Tenant Association website.
3. The StuyTown Tenant Association Board's John Marsh online bed bug / illegal hotel registry is kept secret, covered up.
There is a suspicious pattern here.
To dispel it
1. Open the StuyTown Tenant Association accounting record books
2. Release the (StuyTown Tenant Association Board and Blackstone's PR firms) emails between City Hall and Berlin Rosen Jonathon Rosen
3. Open John Marsh's online bed bug / illegal hotel registry to the community. After all the Stuy Town Tenant Association bragged about it in the Town & Village newspaper as it was always meant to be public.
Really STR? I agree with you on almost everything, but I have no idea how you can say Blackstone is making sure it’s residents are safe. You yourself have written entire posts dedicated to incidents that have happened because of the lack of safety and law enforcement in this place.
ReplyDeleteWhat about that poor girl? 10 minutes of hell in front of a camera and nothing is done. But hey, PS can get to a lockout in 5 minutes!!
What about a person getting attacked with hockey sticks?
Have you looked at the Citizen app over the past six months? There is so much unreported crime in this place that it’s the first time I haven’t felt safe here since the late 80’s.
If Blackstone wante to keep residents here safe, they wouldn’t allow all of the smoking to drift into apartments. They would have increased patrols at night and they would screen tenants more closely. I don’t think safety is a big priority. They may claim it is, but their policies do not show this.
ReplyDeleteour neighbor smokes cigs like a chimney. our place smells, sofas, the babies sheets and clothes. the carpets. Nothing to be done about this, we are moving. This place is disgustingly dirty and smelly.

ReplyDeleteEvery tree killed is an entire ecosystem of life killed and a part of human ecosystem slowly killing humans with each tree cut down. Blackstone and Ivanhoe Cambridge are as stupid and greedy as Tishman Speyer and BlackRock.
>>Really STR? I agree with you on almost everything, but I have no idea how you can say Blackstone is making sure it’s residents are safe. You yourself have written entire posts dedicated to incidents that have happened because of the lack of safety and law enforcement in this place.<<
ReplyDeleteLack can be different, and those criticisms still stand. Let's put it this way: I don't think that Blackstone's aim is to have their residents unsafe. Not their aim. Though they could do much more to keep residents safe. And the expected response from Management and PS about monitors has become laughable and unbelievable. But, regardless, I don't think their aim is to make residents unsafe. It would be financial suicide, for one.
To continue: I do think that a portion of managing this place is incompetent. Either Blackstone does not have the will power to act differently or the company can be a bit chaotic (which some companies are) or Blackstone is having its priority on other things, rather than managing effectively here, which includes pissing off some residents and even non-residents. Take the PS presence here: I can verify that I've seen more of a PS presence around, but I can't verify that outside dogs without that blue lanyard will be escorted off the property. I don't see this, though it may, just may, happen once in a while. It seems that the idea is to have a more visible PS presence, but not to "antagonize" anyone. It is hoped that more of a visible PS presence will translate into the rules being obeyed. Sorry, doesn't happen this way.
ReplyDeleteCrime, both white collar and violent crimes, increased while Blackstone is around and now we know it has been around and meeting with Dan Garodnick since at least 2014 butS really long before that as part of the BlackRock Tishman Speyer investors. MetLife is no saint when it comes to white collar crime, but at least there were not the increase in violent hockey stick assaults and StuyTown building lobby rapes or even suicides for that fact.
ReplyDeleteIf they cared about the safety of this property and it’s residents, then why do they turn a complete blind eye to all the AirBnB? The transients make this property completely unsafe. Not only do you not know who these people are, these people are also easy targets for crime.
ReplyDeleteThey don’t enforce the dog rule, which you talk about almost daily. How is this not putting the safety of the residents in jeopardy. It’s only a matter of time before a dog attack happens here, and it’s because management does not care about safety.
And again STR, I have it verified from a guard that there has been no increase in security personnel. It only looks like there is because they are out of the vehicles and more visible. If they have a major management skeptic like yourself convinced that there is more security, imagine what the cheerleaders are thinking... probably that they live in Buckingham Palace!
ReplyDeleteDon’t let the optics fool you. Ask some of the long-term guards (the few still around), they will confirm what I’m saying.
>>And again STR, I have it verified from a guard that there has been no increase in security personnel. It only looks like there is because they are out of the vehicles and more visible.<<
ReplyDeleteI'm not doubting this.
>>They don’t enforce the dog rule, which you talk about almost daily. How is this not putting the safety of the residents in jeopardy. It’s only a matter of time before a dog attack happens here, and it’s because management does not care about safety.<<
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree that certain "rules" are ignored. But that is different than purposefully being unconcerned at all about safety.
BTW, seen a few moments ago. A PS officer, our friend, not saying a word to someone who walked his dog in the inner Oval path (where no dogs are allowed). The PS officer was much closer than I was, but either he didn't say anything because he didn't see anything or he saw but didn't want to be bothered.
ReplyDeleteAnd, again, it's: "All okay, Chief." No, it isn't. I trust that the higher ups here do not believe this BS.
ReplyDeleteThey bring in a decorated officer of the NYPD to run PS, and then they take all power out of PS’s hands and make them nothing more than walking resident services representatives. Safety here is a joke.
ReplyDeleteAirbnb is a big problem, a health problem and an even bigger safety issue. Agree that if the TA really opposed Airbnb they would put the Airbnb registry and the bed bug correlation on the PCVST Stuy Town Tenant Association website TODAY. If the TA Board cares at all about tenants they would post those registries TODAY. What the hell are you hiding TA? Post the Airbnb and bed bug registries or step down from calling yourselves representatives of tenants.
ReplyDeleteOpposing Airbnb is one thing but making nonsensical arguments and outright false statements is just stupid. He is too stupid for words. He just got called out for pandering to the powerful hotel lobbyists and industry. This type of politician is exactly why the democrats lost the Oval Office and the greed by the hotel industry and their mouthpiece politicians is why PCV ST rents are higher than mathematically possible with the shoddy fixtures they put in our luxury apartments.
ReplyDeleteShut up Stringer.

Here’s a way to think about it. The house rules should be considered the “laws” of the property. If you saw the NYPD neglecting to enforce the laws the way Blackstone/SPS neglect the enforcement of the house rules, would you feel safe???
ReplyDeleteHell yes to 10:41 am. NYS and NYC the most corrupt state in the USA. Why do you and I put up with this?
ReplyDeleteGee I wish I could get a huge tax deduction from the city and its residents, while still collecting 4-6,000$ a month on each apartment.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have to put up with this.
ReplyDeleteNeither do we have to move away.
We can do many other things if we have the will.
People used to say, "You can't fight City Hall (and win)."
Not so. Some people have fought City Hall's behaviors and won.
Stringer is a wannabe mini-me to Schumer. Both are bought and paid for political puppets that say and do whatever the party tells them to as dictated by the wealthy donors. Stringer will never be Schumer's job level. The last thing NY needs is another camera-loving, narcissistic, corrupt career politician a la Schumer. Schumer sold out PCVST reaping windfalls for himself in exchange for funneling $2,000,000,000 into the corrupt Economic Development Corporation - Housing Preservation Department mortgage instead of a tenant co-op ownership. Stringer aspires to be a dirty, rotten to the core corrupt politician a la Schumer who loves money, money, more money.
ReplyDeleteStringer is from a political, connected family. Without nepotism he would be a loud mouth, low achieving, average Joe.
ReplyDeleteMayor de Blasio is committed to enriching the wealthy. It is established who has the dock contracts, Farkas family. The owners of the waterfront developments that will benefit from the ferry service are the Dillers, Tishman Speyer, Brookfield Asset, RXR, etc with Hudson Yards, Brookfield Place, Diller Follies, and soon the development of StuyTown; and the investors in the yacht and ferry makers. Mayor de Blasio's investment of New Yorker's tax dollars to enrich the wealthy is obvious and insulting. This has nothing to do with making his constituents lives better. 100 years later, humans removed the polluting vehicles from the waterways and the waterways and air began healing. Now Mayor de Blasio is undoing all the clean-up of the waterways by putting the polluting vehicles back in the waterways and he is doing so using the same unethical and illegal Tammany Hall tactics. History repeating itself in more ways than one. A review around the country and the world at other cities "investing" taxpayer dollars in ferry services and it all comes back to the same few getting rich off of the taxes paid by the masses. Mayor de Blasio's type of progressiveness is regressive.

And the answer to why Blackstone can do whatever they want, legal or illegal, to the StuyTown property and residents is Bronxville resident Bill Mullrow, current head campaign manager for Cuomo re-election, Senior Manging Director at Blackstone. Blackstone owns Albany and a vote for Cuomo in 2018 is a vote for Blackstone.

The ties that bind. It is no coincidence that the StuyTown city councilman is a former lobbyist for Donald Trump just like it is no coincidence that the Cuomo former chief, former head of NY housing during StuyTown deal, current head of campaign for Governor Cuomo re-election in 2018 and then for President in 2020 is Blackstone Executive Bill Mulrow who, by working at Blackstone works for close advisor and big supporter of Donald Trump Steve Schwarzman. Cuomo, Mulrow, Schwarzman, Trump ...
ReplyDelete"Blackstone Group: Cuomo & Trump’s Wall Street Nexus
By Rob Galbraith
May 4, 2017
Governor Andrew Cuomo’s top aide is going to work for billionaire hedge fund tycoon and Donald Trump advisor Steven Schwarzman – again.
William J Mulrow is leaving his government job to return to the private equity firm Blackstone Group. In addition to resuming his finance industry job, Mulrow will also chair Cuomo’s 2018 re-election bid. Mulrow’s transition back to Blackstone raises serious questions about Cuomo’s relationship with Wall Street and comes amid criticism over Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman’s influence on federal policies that could enrich the firm.
Mulrow and Schwarzman’s roles in the Cuomo and Trump administrations highlight the broad, bipartisan influence that finance capital has within the American power structure, especially over the state and federal governments.
Blackstone Group is the world’s largest private equity firm. Its $356 billion portfolio has included the controversial theme park SeaWorld, African offshore drilling company Kosmos Energy, publicly subsidized affordable housing developments, and single-family rental homes. Blackstone’s role in profiting from the 2008 housing bubble collapse and ensuing foreclosure crisis (described by Schwarzman as a “huge” opportunity) in particular has drawn criticism.
After the housing collapse, Blackstone Group went on “the biggest buying spree in history,” spending an estimated $10 billion to buy 50,000 houses and becoming the largest owner of single-family homes in the country. In cities where Blackstone bought houses, like Phoenix and Las Vegas, housing prices are skyrocketing while rental evictions reach record highs.
And now Cuomo’s sidekick is headed back to Blackstone.
...
part 2
ReplyDeleteWilliam Mulrow was already close to Cuomo when he replaced Lawrence Schwartz as secretary to the governor in January 2015. In the 1990s, Mulrow worked on the re-election campaign of former Governor Mario Cuomo, Andrew’s father. Andrew Cuomo appointed Mulrow to the statutory Special Commission on Judicial Compensation in 2011 and in 2012, he named Mulrow as chair of the New York State Housing Finance Agency.
The Housing Finance Agency, through a subsidiary, oversaw disbursement of $15 million raised by a charity – the Empire State Relief Fund – set up by Andrew Cuomo to benefit homeowners affected by Hurricane Sandy. Mulrow, still at Blackstone at the time, was one of two board members at the Housing Finance Agency subsidiary that administered the funds.
After distributing $8.8 million to homeowners, the Empire State Relief Fund awarded $3.5 million to two housing developments in Coney Island partially owned by Blackstone funds and managed by a company in which Blackstone was invested.
Deals like this add up. That year, Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman earned $452.7 million.
In the year before he took his full-time paid position in the Cuomo administration, Mulrow earned between $1.15 million and $1.25 million from Blackstone. Although he gave up his Blackstone salary and fees when he became secretary to the Governor, he retained a financial interest in the firm: Mulrow disclosed between $1.75 million and $2 million in investments with Blackstone in 2015.
Mulrow is set to cash in even more on his move back to Blackstone. His return to his managing director role likely means a return to his more than million dollar per year pay package. And his role in Andrew Cuomo’s third term re-election campaign means that he will still maintain his position of influence over the governor.
...
part 3
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Mulrow’s boss at Blackstone, CEO Stephen Schwarzman, has recently been subject to Congressional scrutiny over his role as chairman of the White House Strategic and Policy Forum, a council of corporate executives convened by President Donald Trump to advise him on economic policy.
Following reporting from the International Business Times on how Trump’s economic plans would benefit Blackstone, Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-Wi) and Sherrod Brown (D-Oh) called on Schwarzman to recuse himself from working on policy that could affect his firm. Trump has met with the Strategic and Policy Forum at the White House several times since his election, and has floated plans to roll back Dodd-Frank regulations and steer infrastructure spending through Wall Street firms. All this has happened just as Blackstone has sought to expand its infrastructure business.
Trump has also has not acted so far on his campaign promise to eliminate the carried interest loophole, which earned Schwarzman $45.6 million in 2016 and which Blackstone has aggressively lobbied against.
Schwarzman and Mulrow’s positions of influence over the President of the United States and the Governor of New York State illustrate the deep sway that private equity has within federal and state governments. Even as Cuomo publicly positions himself in opposition to Trump by backing a $15 minimum wage and a free college tuition plan, he has maintained close ties to the corporate elite, installing an investor who works for a top Trump economic aide at the helm of his 2018 re-election campaign."
In other words two thugs from Queens pretending to be on opposite sides when really they are supporting each other and financed by the same people, Blackstone.
Blackstone controls NY and the US as long as a Trump and or a Cuomo is in office. The biggest political tie that connected Trump and Cuomo is their mutual friend Ed Mangano. The same Ed Mangano on trial right now for corruption albeit for the least of his crimes.
ReplyDeleteUnless Cuomo fires Mulrow and denounces Blackstone, he does not deserve the votes of StuyTown residents. How much do you want to bet that "Peter Stuyvesant" and the TA will endorse Cuomo?
ReplyDeleteBlackstone!!!!!! latest news. purchases billions gramercy area. 5-7-2018

ReplyDeleteWho will now join together to fight back, defend our homes, jobs (abused and angry employees), health, (real) neighbors), and lives?
OOPS! Correction: They ain’t got no character, do they?!
Speaking of that T&V article with pictures all over it, did anyone notice the make-up of the group? There are 12 people in the picture, with 8 of them being female in a similar age group as Susan. Probably her long-time friends who don't believe that Susan could be up to no good, or they are in on whatever Susan is doing. It's the only logical answer, as I don't see how anyone could walk along side the leader of this corrupt group.

Andrew Cuomo Has Raised an Obscene Amount of Money Using the Loophole He Claims He Wants Closed
Clio Chang
Progressives in New York have long criticized Governor Andrew Cuomo for failing to close the so-called LLC loophole, which allows people who own limited liability companies to essentially disregard limits on campaign contributions. While the fact that Cuomo is one of the top beneficiaries from this loophole is nothing new, a report from Politico on Monday reveals the order of magnitude:
According to their analysis, the governor raises more from LLCs than every state legislator combined—taking in a reported $16 million since 2011.
The LLC loophole is a top issue for campaign finance reform advocates because it allows wealthy donors—often from the the state’s powerful real estate sector—to funnel millions of dollars into campaigns in secret.
...
In Cuomo’s first term, one donor used the LLC loophole to contribute a whopping $1 million to Cuomo’s committee. As Politico notes, proportionately, “only about 5 percent of the money spent on legislative races comes from LLC donations to candidates. But LLC donations accounted for 20 percent of the money that Cuomo’s committee raised from 2011 through 2014.”
Reform advocates often criticize Cuomo for only paying lip service, rather than putting actual muscle behind closing the loophole. His dependence on LLC donations just miiiight have something to do with that.
A viable and fantastic alternative to Tom DiNapoli!

Got to love the way some of these posters on the TA site tell others not to attack people that disagree with them. The worst offenders don’t practice what they preach. In addition, they think they know everything that goes on here behind closed doors and keep denying that the rental policies are unorthodox and creative.

ReplyDeleteHere we go again all right. This brings a look into the pervasive culture of Predatory Equity, Predatory Lending, Predatory Acts and Behavior
ReplyDeleteRob Speyer runs the cess pools Albany and Tammany Hall. That much is established. Blackstone has a world-wide reputation of predatory behavior. That much is established, reported and well documented.
Today.
Albany is "investigating City DA of Tammany Hall for not investigating sexual crimes against women, with a focus on Cy Vance refusing to prosecute Harvey Weinstein despite the NYPD providing irrefutable evidence.
Albany is assigning a City DA (what City is TBD) to investigate Albany AG for violence against women (AG Schniederman resigned yesterday effective end of day today).
A twitterer put it well saying:
Alan Feuer
@alanfeuer
The current state of affairs in New York:
The governor is going to ask a district attorney to investigate sex abuse allegations against the attorney general who he has already asked to investigate a district attorney who was slow to investigate sex abuse allegations.
Ahhh, New York where we already have the (currently in prison) Anthony Weiner sexting scandal and the former AG current real estate developer Elliott Spitzer infamous client #9 scandal.
Reminds of this glorious staged photo op moment in StuyTown post the newly closed development deal with Blackstone with photos of General Manager Rick Hayduk and former President Clinton (impeachment for affair and close friend of Lolita Express owner Jeffrey Epstein), former Councilman Garodnick, De Blasio NYC employee Rosinna Aviles, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Councilman Garodnick's former Chief of Staff Marianna Vaidman Stone, etc:

To your last point that no one cares, at least no one in authority. The above two comments at 11:13 am and 9:54 am surely gives insight as to why the types of people currently in positions of authority do not care about our quality of life. They are misogynistic, self-serving, self-grandizing, narcissistic, self-promoting, selfish hypocrites. Every one allowed a selfie photo with Clinton is a staff of De Blasio or Garodnick. Everything Garodnick does is always the same. All of them. It is a disgrace.

The leasing practices and the TA books could use a criminal investigation. Leasing is headed up by Gregory Claude and the TA books is John Sheehy. Airbnb in empty apartments leased to llc's and dorms leased to llc's and people not living here anymore for years is a big problem. Our neighbors died over ten years ago and their apartment is a damn dorm.

Completely agree that the leasing policies here are despicable if not criminal . I imagine that they have checked loopholes and made adjustments. If we had a real TA maybe we could get an investigation. They do rent hotels, dorms and yes city assisted. My neighbors are not paying 3500 for their apartment and have been visited by public assistance. They still have no name on their door and appear to be done kind of church organization. Blackstone is as sleazy as it gets.

ReplyDeleteDo those neighbors cause any problems, though? Are they dirty and noisy? Do they make you feel unsafe?
3:04 - the constant barrage of new people coming in and out of one of the apartments on my floor absolutely makes me feel unsafe. I can’t get to the bottom of who’s behind it - is it a tenant who is gone and just using this for AirBnB? Does management have something set up for short term rentals?
ReplyDeleteAs a parent, I am deeply concerned about the safety of this, and the unknown people that go in and out. Have told this to management, they don’t care.
3:04 . When these neighbors moved in they appeared to be running a boarding house, different people moving in and out. After I reported it , that stopped. There was also a major fumigation at one point. They priced out a nice family a couple of years ago. That bothers me.
ReplyDeleteIt is apparent that there are many short term rentals here, particularly to tourists. I see new faces in my building every day. It is scary to think that there could be unsavory people in the mix.
ReplyDeleteThey really need to purge all the AirbnB/boarding house apartments. I don't think that Management cares about anything except collecting the rent. That Hayduk guy is a total failure when it comes to running this place. Maybe he is destroying it systematically at the behest of Blackstone.
ReplyDeleteHayduk is definitely working at the behest of Blackstone . An inspection would purge a lot of these illegal rentals, but these rentals suit management just fine, as they fill overpriced, otherwise unrentable apartments.
ReplyDeleteAs we've read, Blackstone is INVOLVED with AirbnB, and bringing them in.
ReplyDeleteWhen I called Security a few days back to ask them to get rid of the woman in my lobby who was nearly definitely AirbnB, they became rude and hung up on me.
When I then spoke with a young, brand new Security Officer outside, he told me he wasn't involved with this issue, that I had to speak to "Management" about it.
As I keep writing, BLACKSTONE IS DOING ALL OF THIS TO US DELIBERATELY.
And, oh, by the way: do you know that whomever is goddamn building a goddamned MARINA at 20th Street on the river???
When do we get up to stop this? Do we need North Korea, Iran, or perhaps massive flooding because of global warming to stop these depredations and land/sea grabs?
Do we need either Mama Nature's retaliation or World War III to end the destruction of our homes, of our earth itself?
How about WE stop this massive movement of misery?
ReplyDeleteAnd, oh, by the way: do you know that whomever is goddamn building a goddamned MARINA at 20th Street on the river???
Cuomo's close friend, pal Farkas because deBlasio gave the dock contracts to Farkas. It is for the Peter Cooper site to have a grand hotel tower built that will ultimately host yachts, yacht racing, and is definitely not for commuters like lying Garodnick tries to sell it.
? source? Documentation?
DeleteBlackstone is definitely involved in air bnb as well as NYU deals and yes , city deals. They are doing all this to make oodles of money. They cannot rent these overpriced apartments to families and professionals. Thus they have devised creative ways to collect the high outlandish rents they crave.
