Starting at 4pm, there will be a meeting with our local politicians at the Community Center in Stuyvesant Town. The Community Center, also called the Senior Center, is at 449 East 14 Street, but the entrance is from the loop around 1st Ave. Unless you don't live nearby, chances are you've seen the Center. At the meeting will be our new Councilperson, Keith Powers, and probably, Harvey Epstein, our NYS Assembly person.
Speaking of Powers, I saw him walking along the loop where he must have seen this:
Do note, not only the mattress, but further down a Public Safety vehicle. No doubt, Powers called this in or Public Safety. The latter has those monitors that we are paying for and will be paying for, as long as we live.
Powers did not see, this:
... which is on the other side of the loop. Of course, PS will know about it, having all those monitors and PS officers that go about the property.

I have sent photos of the garbage dumping to Council Member Powers’ assistant . I am certain that he is well aware of the situation. As for calling these dumpings in, it is a lost cause. They are not picking them up on a timely basis. It is almost impossible to keep up with it . Trucks picking the refuse up is not a solution. This has to cease altogether.
Of course, it is nice that the TA (that's our TA) is promoting a "Night Out" in something that is NOT in Stuy Town, but is happening at basically the same time. Way to go, TA!

And thank you for doing that. About this dumping: Something to ask our local politicians, though I expect a weaselly answer. Also the R7-2 category. By this time, the local politicians should be aware of both situations. Let's see if they will be truthful or pass "the buck."
Hayduk is the one who needs to hold a town meeting so that he can be confronted with the horrendous sanitation conditions here and the sparsely attended events.
Hayduk knows exactly what is going on and he can't do anything about about. Upper management just tells him to do the best he can. Period. He too will resign. Bank on it. There will no change for the better around here anytime soon, unless we get a new owner, but these idiots
seem to be in it until EVERY LAST apartment is renovated. THEY DO NOT CARE!!!!!! And neither do these students. We are now a Hotel.
Please post the results of the meeting with Epstein and Powers. Please be as specific as you can regarding what they were confronted with (what topics, questions, demands, frustrations, angers, etc.) and how they responded.
I was led to believe that Powers might be there the first hour; I don't know about Epstein; their "staffs" were supposed to be there and I don't know how useful that could be.
Did you see anyone who was either clearly "management" or "legal" from Blackstone, or anyone behaving as if she or he was sent by our good landlord?
Multiple postings about this super-important meeting (read the sarcasm here, please) would be appreciated. The more people who could describe what they experienced would be helpful.
I was and am EXTREMELY suspicious about both the efficacy of this meeting (and the sincerity of Epstein and Powers) and the reason STUYVESANT TOWN COMMUNITY CENTER was the venue.
I was not able to go for a variety of reasons.
And please, if you want to communicate confidentially about this meeting and the general disaster Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village have become:
quietenjoymentnow@gmail.com
I was there and the "results" were to be expected. It is rather late right now, so I can't say much due to being tired and heading for bed soon.
I expected more of a general meeting, but it was one-on-one, with two tables set up to the side. The majority of the people seemed to be just there for the center, and not for the politicians, of which both showed up. Before Powers got to the center, I spoke to Ben, his assistant. I mentioned, mainly, three things. The R7-2 designation, which is still being looked into (yeah, I know), the loops (Rick claims they are Blackstone territory, period) and the club cars. Ben seemed surprised that the club cars could cross 20th Street and also dive along 1st Avenue that is not adjacent to the stores. So on that matter, there seemed some light. On the others, "we'll get back to you." (Though it wasn't said that way, from memory.) I didn't note anyone from Management. Rick wasn't there, while I was around for about 40 minutes. Susan did show up. I kept my distance, as best I could, from her.
Generally, I think it was a BS session, with some minor advancement, but that's to be determined.
I still don't know how Rick will not do anything about the mess that's on the loops. Everybody (well, the people who speak up) think it is unsightly and a terrible sore-spot for Management. And Rick won't do anything. At least right now.
The fact that they are ignoring the garbage dumping is despicable. The demo that they are renting to is the cause and if they can’t rent apartments without them, I guess they will just allow this property to become a slum.
The responses that you received at the meeting sounded like the same lukewarm responses that we heard at the other meeting a couple of months ago. Not promising. Still don’t know how they are getting away with this garbage dumping which relates to health and sanitation.
I should note that Susan stayed less than I did.
Glad that I wasn’t able to make it. Would have been a waste of time.
I agree that Rick will resign. I didn't initially believe him to be either of ill intent, or just plain stupid. I believed him to be a good person put into a very ugly tight corner. I do know for a fact that today's New York City was a nasty shock to him and I do know that there were moments (days?) when he clearly seemed to feel besieged, angered by what he was up against and his helplessness. NOT HIS WORDS, but it was the strong impression I received.
I HEARD nasty and hurtful only once from him, and it occurred to me that he truly was being forced into actions he knew to be damaging and immoral.
It seems to me that anyone who wants to retain any decency and kindness would want quite badly to flee positions such as his. Leaving jobs is often an agonizing decision.
Thank you for information about that vital (again: sarcasm) meeting last evening.
I'm not surprised. I'm appreciative of your briefing.
Regarding Blackstone's renting ("pimping," as it has been used for some years now, might be a more accurate verb) to today's excuses for universities/colleges, corporations, and the like:
It is not, in my opinion the sole way they can make any profit here.
I remain completely convinced that they could rent every apartment here to real, long-term residents if they lowered all of the rents to reasonable rates, and recreated much of what Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village were for decades: (1) safe, quiet, peaceful, sane apartments (as in no "wine coolers" and similar crap, along with SAFE layouts as in KITCHENS CLOSED BY METAL DOORS) with no partitioning and no cheap, substandard fixtures and other unsafe and shoddy garbage they currently proclaim is "luxury" when it isn't even durable, and often doesn't last beyond a year.
(2) Peaceful, untrammeled grass; sidewalks and nights free of dog: shit, piss, barking, fighting, suffering neglect and abuse from moronic "dog lovers." Sidewalks unmolested by anything on wheels other than baby carriages and wheelchairs. Benches untouched by human or canine feet. Trees not constantly in danger of mutilation or total murder. "If you want to exercise, get yourself to Asser Levy, the 14th Street Y, or other gyms." Safety/Security that ENFORCES rules rather than threatens you if you ask them to do so.
The list goes on. You know, unfortunately, EXACTLY HOW LIFE USED TO BE HERE.
I hear, loud and clear, the wailing that, "this is what people want:" all of the crap commercial degradation installed here because people are goddamned lazy, stupid, spoiled, demanding, selfish. Yes, SOME human specimens want to continue to be the worst versions of themselves. I do believe, however, that Blackstone and any "landlord" (just take that compound word apart and think about what it means) could find thousands and thousands of folks who would flock to what this once was. Yes, even today. Yes, even in New York City.
Nobody believes Hayduk is a good guy. His words and actions certainly are not one of a good guy.
Don’t know why you think Hayduk will resign. He is a PR man. That sweet and amiable front is for his job. If he does resign it will be for financial or family issues. He is a great company man.
So true, but the greedy owners want that money and will never lower rents. They have that pool of students, Airbnb and city subsidized. It is endless.
10:26. You have fallen for Hayduk’s friendly facade as others have. That is his job,PR. Respond to e-mails in a nice way, speak softly, but enforce the company line and run this property into a slum. You don’t get it.
Yes, it confirmed my belief that we will get little or no assistance from local politicians.
Rick is obviously following the company line. He may say this or that to them at a board meeting, but Blackstone's rules, or non-enforcement of certain rules, are his. As for resigning, he has to think of several things. One, he is the CEO of this place and, two, he gets a nice paycheck from Blackstone. He has family that are in schools here. (I don't see him going away while school is in session.) I don't see him resigning unless his family decides otherwise. And who will take over? It was be another Blackstone man.
>>Yes, it confirmed my belief that we will get little or no assistance from local politicians.<<
It is my belief, after seeming many things and living here for three decades, that any assistance from local politicians will be chiefly limited to talk. Some things can be done, however.
And...I am still astounded that some residents feel this place is perfect. It is not terrible, but it is not perfect. Read the Yelp reviews. While most Yelpers complain about this place, there are a few that give it the highest marks. Don't they see all the photos I've taken? That is part of their reality, too.
Two observations about prior posts.
1. I do not believe Rick will resign. Who else would hire him? He is clearly tainted by the slum he allowed this to become.
2. Those positive Yelp reviews are paid for.

Well, yeah....
Oh boy
http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-metro-public-land-luxury-apartments-20180808-story.html
Here Rick. I'll make it easy for you......
Leave all the stuff on the loops and just STOP ALL THE DAMN "CONCERTS" and MOVIE NIGHTS!!!
That shouldn't be too hard, now should it?
Maybe those who believe that Rick is (and "always" was) what he is today is true. You might well be correct. I dealt with him, sometimes often, until this past spring. There was, of course, lying and b.s. Yet there was more than that.
When my family faced a serious problem here and we found ourselves in a virtually uninhabitable apartment, we were treated, by Rick (and most of those who assisted him), exceedingly well. We were helped and given both respect (and kindness) and excellent service. Granted, it took 18 months of frequent complaint and visits from a whole host of Maintenance folks, but the result and the service went above and beyond. I can categorically state that generosity of several varieties was extended to us.
That was a year ago.
Conditions here have worsened exponentially since then. The initiatives and actions first contemplated and then executed by Blackstone's employees have multiplied alarmingly and have daily, and by a factor of great number, caused more and more misery and ruination.
STR wrote some while back that he heard some suits state to Rick that the Oval is a "resource." Well, these bastards see EACH AND EVERY DAMNED THING HERE AS A "RESOURCE."
When I read STR's statement, and when Rick was openly nasty and hurtful to me some 3 months back or so, I understood that IT WAS GOING TO GET MUCH WORSE HERE: IDIOCY WAS IN THE WORKS THAT WOULD RENDER LIFE SO MUCH MORE DIFFICULT.
I wonder now if their "plan" for these two once precious and unique residential complexes was sped up this past Spring, if Blackstone's minions, including Rick, were made aware of the deepening hell that would be imposed upon us. And if Blackstone's minions would then find it necessary to engage in behaviors that even THEY found repugnant if they were to keep their jobs.
I just bought two new night tables. Have to throw away the old ones. When I first moved in you would leave them in the carriage room. Bulk items now are to be left on the loops. I wouldn't think of leaving them in the carriage room as some people still do because the porters are overloaded nowadays. I am a little afraid to put them in the spot designated on the loop for fear that a picture of them will turn up here.

That we will see. Residents, at least some of them, are very watchful.
>>I am a little afraid to put them in the spot designated on the loop for fear that a picture of them will turn up here.<<
But no uncovered mattresses. Which, uncovered, are against NYC law or a fine.
If the City fined Blackstone for each and every infraction of City Law (quite apart from all the State laws they violate), there would be a lot more money in the City coffers. If Blackstone had to actually pay for all it gets away with, they may find it more cost-effective to obey the laws because we know that Money is their God. It probably won't happen though because all of our corrupt politicians benefit from Blackstone's donations to their coffers. We need to vote the whole bunch of filth OUT!!!!! I will vote for anybody except a current incumbent, especially Powers. Just the sight of him turns my stomach.
">>I am a little afraid to put them in the spot designated on the loop for fear that a picture of them will turn up here.<<
Why? What do you have to hide? Unwrapped, cum-stained mattress? Cheap, nasty broken furniture? Go right ahead because it will fit right in here.
>>If the City fined Blackstone for each and every infraction of City Law (quite apart from all the State laws they violate), there would be a lot more money in the City coffers.<<
Instead of going after people on the street who sell single cigarettes or "happy-ending" massage parlors, I would suggest going after the clear violations of motorized bikes and uncovered mattresses. But, no. It's pick and choose.
At one time there was only one designated dump spot on each loop away from building entrances. When I redecorated I used that one. They have just made the loop free for all dumping recently. Disgusting,
Rick is a human being, just like every one of us. And as a human being living in America, he has the free will to make decisions on what he will and will not do. His free will keeps him in this position as he single handedly ruins the homes of tens of thousands of people. He could easily walk away if Blackstone told him to do something he didn’t agree with, yet here he still is.
Just like many people remember Mr Potter for his great work on this property, Rick will go down as the destroyer.
"Instead of going after people on the street who sell single cigarettes or "happy-ending" massage parlors, I would suggest going after the clear violations of motorized bikes and uncovered mattresses. But, no. It's pick and choose."
Sell loosies on Staten Island and expect an immediate execution by strangulation if you are a certain color and if the Police Officer is a certain type.
I did not vote for Kavannagh and Hoylman when they last ran, due to the fact that they pushed this Blackstone deal and then did nothing for us. I will do the same with Powers and Epstein if nothing changes here. Unfortunately Garodnick’ s term was up or I would have voted against him.
Rick is no Bill Potter. Bill Potter knew how to do his job and he did it well. He was a very pleasant and fair man, but he was nobody's fool. He could have run rings around Hayduk
Mr.Potter was good, but remember that he worked for different management. Met Life and Blackstone, a whole different ballgame. Some of you do not understand that a manager is not an independent entity . He runs the property as his superiors want it run.
Just wondering if when our politicians such as Council Member Powers meet with Hayduk and management, they challenge their responses. When I read his response to the garbage on the loops as Blackstone owns the loops, I thought wow that was nasty and crude. Would love to be a fly on the wall at these meetings. I am increasingly skeptical that our local politicians do not challenge him and just stand there agreeing with everything he says. A scary thought. Oh well, there goes my votes in the next election .
Rick (via Blackstone) have complete control over our spineless corrupt politicians. All these people praising Powers for Waterside are idiots - the owner only did it for tax breaks, which are worth more to him. And those praising Rivera - she sold out. She promised a hell of a lot more than she got.
One day we will have another man like Preet in power, and all these clowns will be in jail cells.
"Some of you do not understand that a manager is not an independent entity . He runs the property as his superiors want it run."
So, he's under orders to run the property as a slum? And here I'm thinking it was just because he is a lazy and uncaring manager. I guess he doesn't have a lot of self-respect or pride in what he does if he's just a puppet of Blackstone.
I guess not.
Did the TA ever report back on their meeting with the politicians?
