The Way We Look - All Photos Taken February 8, 2020

It may be hard to tell, but smears here are at the Oval and close to the small PS booth:

[Photo removed by me, Feb 11, because I don't want to look at dog piles any more.]

Down below. A different path, same problem. I was passing and saw a pile of unpicked dog shit. A few hours later, something (a club car?) must have driven over it, squashing it. Sorry for the dog dropping photos, but nothing changes, and there is NO Public Safety to escort non-ST or PCV residents out of here. Everyone knows that this place doesn't follow some rules, even Management's own rules. But we do have S'mores and Songs. From Management: "Who says city life can’t come with bonfires and s’mores? Make s’mores at the new fire pits for $5 with profits benefiting The Bowery Mission. A guitarist brings a sing-a-long for some 'Kumbaya moments' with complimentary hot chocolate & coffee."

[Photo removed by me, Feb 11, because I don't want to look at dog piles any more. But these "leavings" are standard to see here in Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. Management does nothing.]

To all the old timers who can remember when the sty was Stuytown. I was passing some mailboxes today around the perimeter of the property. Does anyone remember how back in the day Met Life would periodically paint the mailboxes after the savages would tag up all over them? I was looking at these mailboxes and there was so much graffiti on them that I could barely see any blue.

I hate Trader Joe's stuff. Target is even worse. I shop at Food Emporium because they are not locked-in to one brand (their own) and they have a very good selection. I sometimes go to the Associated on Avenue C, but that is rather small and limited in choice. We really are deprived of a good local grocery store at this point. I tried D'Agastino, but their prices are outrageous and they don't have such a good variety as you would expect from such a large store. I heard somewhere that Food Emporium is going to be replaced with ANOTHER Target when their lease expires in a couple of years and I find that very depressing. I hate to order from Amazon or Fresh Direct because I actually enjoy shopping in a store, just not every store. I loathe TJ and Target. Associated wasn't brilliant, but it was better (imo) than either TJ or Target. Target is abysmally vile!

We are going back to the days of the 70s and 80s when the City was nasty, dirty and dangerous. We can thank Mayor DeBozio, Harvey Epstein and other "Progressives" for this. Their bleeding hearts don't give a shit for the safety and well-being of decent, hard-working, taxpayers. Crime is on the rise and law enforcement has its hands tied. Thanks to Bail Reform, the courts are a revolving door. Don't forget that DeB wants to close Rikers and put the scum in the community. They're already in the community and should be locked up.

This place is getting worse and worse. Just looked at the TA fb and there are posts about backed-up drains, neighbors dirty water coming into sinks and one lady has posted a photo of the brown water coming out of her bath faucets; yet another said she came home from vacation and found her shower filled with black crud. Also more posts about no heat.

I think it's time the City took a good look at this "management" and their practices because it is at the point where it is now a form of tenant harassment. The people with the backed-up tubs and sinks can't get plumbers appointments for weeks and the people freezing in their apartments are being made to do the thermometer tango with RS. I feel sorry for the people in RS because they are forced to treat tenants like shit with their scripted responses. It must be soul-destroying to work for this bunch of grifters. We know that Rick is a pathological liar with no conscience whatsoever because he's sold his soul to Blackstone, but now the employees are being forced lie and dish out bullshit.

Although management does have some control over the TA page, the TA has control as well. If you criticize them for doing nothing they become furious, go after you by message and finally banish you. I know. It wasn’t until I attacked the TA directly, that I got banished from that piece of crap cheerleader blog.

This may be a rumor or a “feeler” being out out to test the water but.....

I spoke to one of the leading agents I’ve become friendly with over the years. They said that the only serious inquiry regarding the associated space was for a homeless outreach and clinic. They said this “would be a reputable and long standing operator” taking over this space.

To be clear, this was told to me by one person but it makes sense.

I'm sure that the homeless would enjoy Rick's "amenities." And is Blackstone itself a "reputable" operator?

Stand Up and Fight said...

"Homeless outreach and clinic" makes perfect sense. It is not only in our immediate neighborhood, nor even solely in New York City, that the Orwellian destruction is escalating. Most of our big cities are being pushed into implosion.

I would think that Mother Nature's drastic and perilous weather shifts and it accompanying multiplying catastrophes, along with this newest virus, and all of its disastrous effects, would be enough to give the billionaires and selfish, unconscious among us pause. It doesn't - yet.

The most frightening demagogue, would-be dictator who simply won't go away, the man whom I believe is personally responsible for actions which have caused untold and unquantified misery to millions of us, including taxi drivers who killed themselves, and impoverished, dead teachers, and the accompanying wreckage of the once excellent NYC Department of Education, is determined to destroy this country utterly. Our dearly beloved Michael Bloomberg has been working for years on his plan. He may have some traction.

Homeless, mentally ill, overcrowding, deteriorating infrastructure (did anyone see last night's news about NO WATER in some NYCHA Housing?), thousands and thousands of hideous apartments in the sky which sit empty as thousands and thousands go homeless, or live in substandard housing, and we live among too many idiots obsessed with "my company," "my clothes," "my facebook page" and on and on . . .

We are in big trouble. Do ya think we'll ever Stand Up and Fight before it's too late?

Anonymous said...

If it's true about the homeless outreach clinic being put in the Associated space, then we are done. That will be the last nail in the coffin. We have almost no security and zero NYPD presence. The crime rate will soar and no matter how many gimmicks and lame events they have, nobody in their right mind will want to move in here. I live on 14th near Associated. How much worse can life in the Sty get? We really need a rent rollback if we are going to be going back to 70s and 80s safety level, we should go back to that level of rent. NOTHING HAS IMPROVED HERE OVER THE YEARS. IT HAS JUST GOT WORSE.

Anonymous said...

">>They said that the only serious inquiry regarding the associated space was for a homeless outreach and clinic. They said this “would be a reputable and long standing operator” taking over this space.<<"

That would be the perfect finishing touch to what has happened to Stuyvesant Town! It's already gone down the toilet and this would be the final flush! We have homeless people lying around on the benches and they are all over the streets, begging and harassing people. With the subway entrances right up at the entrance to the property and the inevitable beggars and dealers hanging out by them, a facility such as the one described above would ensure that we would be worse off than we were in the 70s. I'm betting DeBlasio had something to do with this idea.

If the so-called "landlords" decide to install a homeless outreach and clinic, I think it is likely that it might aid them in their possible mission to chase out all residents, more rapidly destroy buildings and land, and enable orders of condemnation to be issued sooner.

As I've written here too many times, the October 2015 press conference announcing the purchase of our homes by these sick individuals struck me, immediately, as a message that we were slated for demolition. Period.

EVERYTHING prior to literal wrecking balls, controlled explosions to bring down buildings; murdering of just about all of the trees and vegetation; poisoning of all non-human life in furtherance of their grandiose "plans" for this "property" would be in furtherance of: destroying and ruining as much as they could figure out to destroy and ruin (use your imagination); making some money in the process; and, for some of them - feeling like superior, controlling beings.

Does anyone who reads this truly believe that anything less is going on here? How's that going for you? The heat problems, the noise and pot and vomit and dog shit. THE REMOVAL OF ALL DEPENDABLE FOOD STORES. THE INSISTENCE ON INVITING MOTORIZED VEHICLES ON WALKING PATHS . . . what do you conceive this could be???

Anonymous said...

Just what we need here.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Though we will be watching, I don't believe that there will be a homeless outreach clinic here. I could be wrong, but I would bet good money that it will not happen.

On another front the TA still has not responded to me. It's been a week since I called and left a message on the TA line to get back to me. So far, nothing. This was the same non-response a year ago. But this time, things are different. I am forced to pursue other, legal channels.

I treat the TA's requests for $50 membership the same way they treat inquiries from tenants, i.e., the deaf ear.

I see more and more homeless people, drunks and junkies in the neighborhood these days. Many of them are very intimidating, asking for money, being self-appointed doormen at various shops, banks and the Post Office. We have much, much less "Security" presence than ever and the cameras are only good for after-the-fact use - and then only if they are working. Back in the 70s and 80s when "the East Village" was called Alphabet City and was rife with drugs, dealers, junkies and gunfire was frequently heard, Stuyvesant Town was a very safe place to live because we had a large Security Force who actually patrolled 24/7 and did walk-throughs in every building. Nowadays, we have a very small group (cannot call it a Security Force by any means) of men who I don't think are very well-trained or well-paid. We have hundreds of cameras, but I am not convinced that many of them actually work and they are certainly not watched. They are useful at times for after-the-fact view of a crime that has taken place, but of no use in deterring the perpetrator or protecting the victim at the time of the crime.

I think it would be better if our landlord stopped with the stupid events and corny crap and used the money on beefing up PS and putting people in front of those cameras. As for NYPD presence, that is ZERO. The outlook for the future of this property - and even the city as a whole - is very dismal. Graffiti is becoming more pervasive and a general air of decay and despondency is beginning to engulf the neighborhood. I was waiting at the bus stop on 14th today and listening to two homeless youngish man discussing, quite seriously, where to score drugs, which dealer had the best prices and one said he had his regular spot across the street. I kid you not. This was a serious conversation. I was pretending not to listen, but my ears were ON. I have extremely good hearing and am familiar with all of the terminology they were using, though I'm not going to say why. Be careful out there folks and don't let your guard down for one moment. We are not living in a "good" neighborhood and the lack of security and revolving population here means that we should never be complacent and take our safety for granted. Ignore any reassurances from Slick Rick. He is a liar because it is job to lie to us.

This is a very dirty, unhygienic place. There are filthy uncovered mattresses littering the landscape; the recycling areas are a total joke (though not a funny one); the property is plastered and is streaming with dog shit and piss. Plus some human same stuff, I think. Well I know, because I've seen it happen.

We have hundreds of AirBnB customers staying here and they are from all over the world. They could be carrying anything and everything in the way of infectious diseases with them. If they carry bedbugs (and they do) that is the least dangerous pox they bring and deposit here.

Hayduk does not know and he certainly does not care about this situation. His concern about the Coronavirus is laughable. I know people who live in apartment complexes as big or even bigger than this and they don't have the problems and vulnerabilities we have because they are well managed and occupied by bona fide leaseholders. They have real management who would never stand back and allow the travesties that go on here. What they don't have are ridiculous "events" and gimmicks. They know they don't live at a resort and they are damned happy that they don't. They have RULES not requests and the slogan of "Leave people happier than you found them" would make them wonder what kind of institution they had taken up residence in.

Most of the gimmicks and "events" are contra to the zoning laws, but because we such totally corrupt FILTH who present themselves as our "elected officials" and our "Tenants Association" they exist and prevail. I think that each and every one of our so-called elected politicians AND the TA should open their books and reveal EXACTLY where their money comes from and where it goes.

Ain't gonna happen because they are too corrupt and scared to do that. If we had a good AG who would MAKE them, we would see them all scurrying off to go into hiding.

Tell us again about the TA official who has a house in the Hamptons next door to Jonathan Grey? Totally corrupt scum.

No heat in my apartment. So what else is new?

Anonymous said...

So many heat (or lack thereof) comments on both TA and non-TA facebooks. Even photographs of thermometers. It really is shameful that we have to endure this every winter. I have to keep two space heaters on most of the day. I've lived in a lot of cities and different apartments during the course of my 64 years, but this is the absolute worst place. Even when I lived in a flat in London and endured the cold wet winter weather there, I always had heat. No a/c in summer, but plenty of heat in the winter! (Not that you really need a/c in London summers!)
I would expect a huge apartment complex in New York City to do a bit better when it comes to providing heat during the bitterly cold winters here. It's not as if this place is bargain basement cheap! Far from it!
The level of service we get from this management is abysmal and the dope in charge really doesn't belong in the job. Maybe he is doing what he's told to do and says what he's told to say by the owners (who have a terrible reputation in the UK, btw), but he clearly doesn't have any balls or sense of fairness and I find it laughable that they offer money to tenants to bring in a friend! Friends don't do that to friends and there isn't anybody I despise enough that I would recommend they live here, no matter what the cash "reward" was.
I rather wonder if they are trying to wind the place down so that it can be used for some other purpose or even demolished. It certainly seems that way. They would need to offer the tenants (especially those who've been here a long time) some kind of compensation or options (other than pack up and get out).

I am just wondering if the City actually enforces fines on properties who do not recycle properly. Our recycling area is filled with everything under the sun and most of it is not recyclable. I understand that in a transient/dorm/AirBnB place like this it is no doubt hard to get everybody to recycle as they should, but I wonder if because it is a transient (rather than residential) place, are we exempt from recycling? I can't imagine they employ people to sort the recycling and separate it from the regular trash, so there must be some kind of hotel/hostel/dorm exclusion.

Spot on! Look at the TA and non-TA facebooks. Some tenants are living (surviving) with apartments that are in the low and mid-60s and one was told that when a sensor detects 70 degrees the heat shuts off. Brilliant! 70 degrees is only just comfortable (definitely not toasty) and the temperature drops like a stone in these drafty old apartments, especially in the rooms that have two outside walls. They should just shut down the sensor system and send up heat according to what the outside temperature is. We never had this problem until MetLife put in this faulty sensor system. Probably bought it from the same firm that supplied the faulty windows that we are paying for in perpetuity.

Rick has the smuggest kisser I've ever seen! Asshole!

Something to gear up for . . . maybe . . .

IF the Corona virus truly does prove widespread and a killer here, then it is imperative that crowds be prevented where we live.

This means: NO "EVENTS" and no strangers from all over hell and creation coming in here to spread death to us.

IF New York City experiences actual threat of death and prolonged and widespread illness, restaurants, theatres, etc. might be closed. IF that happens, then these bastards simply cannot deliberately invite death here.

I would think that IMMEDIATE and EMERGENCY LEGAL INJUNCTIONS WOULD STOP THIS TO PREVENT DEATHS.

With the current excitement (frenzy) over the corona-virus, our progressive politicians have decided to save the planet by a new law that forces people not to use those dangerous plastic bags. If you have money, no problem with the 5 cent fee on bags, plastic--or paper. So use those dirty bags that you bring from home and you will clean up the environment. No word yet if the plastic ban will include food and milk packaged in plastic, but I guess that's coming up eventually. Also, no word on the greatest polluter of the planet--other countries that are trying to catch up to the industrial revolution. The one bright spot is that Rick, our lord and master and savior, will ban those events if the virus gets more serious.

Seniors living here are in more danger from the lack of heat, the speeding bicycles, oversized dogs and the predators who lurk here and hang out in the vestibules, waiting for a vulnerable senior. How about Rick arranges a hot chocolate and Kumbaya event for all the elderly people who are freezing to ill health and death in their apartments in STYtown? I could say "charity begins at home," but when you are paying rent to live in this freezing hellhole, it is not charity.

Hey Rick. Don't try to polish your halo at the expense of the rent-paying tenants of PCVST. Don't be so stupid as to think we don't have you sussed, weighed-up, got your number, etc. You wanna find a fool in New York City? Bring one with you. One such as yourself.

Anonymous said...

Rick purports to care about tenants here, especially the elderly. There are a lot of elderly tenants and not-so-elderly tenants who have challenging illnesses and disabilities. There are a lot of very young children and babies.
You really want to protect us from the coronavirus (or even plain ole flu or just total discomfort)? Here's how you do it:

Disable the useless sensor system and send up heat when the weather is cold. People who are too hot will open their windows or put their fans on. Those of us who are cold and have to use space heaters will not have to do that then. We will be comfortable and less susceptible to viruses. In fact, everybody will be safer because space heaters can be very dangerous. Ovens too. Stop harassing us with the thermometer/engineer visit nonsense. That is outrageous and something that only a really evil landlord would think of doing.

Give us adequate heat, Rick and then you won't have elderly or frail human beings being taken away in ambulances or body bags. Unless, of course, that is what your Satanic Masters want and you put on a pius face as you do their bidding.

Protect us from illness and death by not acting like someone Charles Dickens would have created for his novel "Bleak House."

In plain English: Cut out the BULLSHIT and send up the heat!

Taken from the Rent Guidelines Board link:

As a rent stabilized tenant, do I have the right to a lease renewal?

Although there are some limited exceptions, tenants in rent stabilized apartments have a basic right under state law to select a lease renewal for a one- or two-year term. The landlord must give written notice to the tenant of the right to renewal no more than 150 days and not less than 90 days prior to the end of the lease. For more information on your right to renewal, see HCR Fact Sheet #4: Lease Renewal in Rent Stabilized Apartments. If you face harassment, see HCR Fact Sheet #17: Harassment. For more info, contact Homes and Community Renewal (HCR).

It's usually about 10 weeks before the expiration of the lease. At least that's been my experience. You have a certain time to get it signed and back to them. They've always moved very fast and there've been no hitches in the 40 years I've lived here. Of course, with the current crew in the financially struggling Blackstone, who knows. ;-)

I have not been contacted, it seems almost a year ago, but there are different issues and questions, so it may have been just months ago on this or that, etc.

These are the organizations that have not contacted me or contacted me rarely:

The Legal Department of ST/PCV - Never
The Tenants Organization - Never
Our Congressman - Once in a while, but not on several issues.

This state of affairs requires that I contract others (not our General Manager) in the hope that there are answers and not just "passing the buck" answers.

So, today, I took the first step to try to contact the TA, but not in the regular way. I will report on my progress or lack of it.

Anonymous said...

STR, did you see the post on the TA fb from a tenant who has been here over 50 years and has fully-carpeted apartment getting a visit from an inspector who walked all around her apartment taking photographs and saying that it was because of a noise complaint? Apparently, he refused to answer questions and took photos all over her apartment and it was not the City-ordered inspection. Isn't this a violation of tenants' rights and a privacy violation? She said they had not had any notification from "Public Safety" that there had been a noise complaint.

This makes me wonder if Blackstone/Beam/Stalin whatever they call themselves are now embarking on an harassment spree against elderly tenants. I will not let any of their so-called inspectors in unless they are accompanied by a Security guard, are wearing shoe coverings and masks.

Another thing, these "inspectors" come in without shoe covering and traipse all over the apartment. They could bring in the fucking coronavirus that Rick is so worried about us catching and posting notices and his smarmy face all over the elevators reminding us of how to take precautions and be Good Neighbors.

The Hell with Rick and his Good Neighbors spiel. This guy does not practice what he preaches.

It is so bloody cold and windy today, but of course, we have no heat. I'm sick of the thermometer crap because that is just nonsense. I'm cold, sick and don't want one of their bloody "engineers" roaming around my apartment and bringing in whatever germs he's got with him. This hypocrit of a "manager" who smirks at us from the elevator postings is so concerned about the coronavirus, but the way he runs this dump and the uncaring way he treats tenants, almost guarantees we will get sick with some virus, whatever's going around. I wish he'd pack his bags and go back to wherever it was they brought him in from.

She got a letter from Management telling her that they were going to inspect for carpets because of noise complaint. She says she has full-compliance carpeting and nobody ever sent PS to tell her somebody was complaining. She's been here 50 years, so obviously is elderly. Sounds like harassment to me.

Rick is putting hand sanitizer dispensers all over the place. He thinks he's running an extended-stay hotel. No heat, of course, because the guests will be out of their accommodations sight-seeing all day, won't they? It's not like this is even a residential hotel in his view. They really picked some doozy from the hospitality industry, as opposed to the residential real estate industry. We can buy our own hand sanitizers, Rick, but we need you to provide heat, safety, cleanliness of the grounds (the porters work their asses off inside the buildings). We also don't need your stupid "community" get-togethers. We actually have lives of our own and don't live here for the need for "entertainment." Thank you.

Anonymous said...

Right on, 3:38PM poster!
The hand sanitizers show how out of touch Clueless Rick is.
How about some heat?
How about no brown water coming out of faucets?
How about screening tenants who know how to behave?
What a dump this place is rapidly becoming.
How sad.
Please Rick.
GO BACK TO FLORIDA.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Hand sanitizers are kinda stupid in front of the elevator. When are you supposed to use them? Before you go into the elevator or after you step out of one? How about washing your hands with soap, at home. When you go in and out. Or, if you must use a hand sanitizer, buy one and use it at home.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Rick would be better advised to shut down the Ice Rink where the virus is more apt to spread. Of course, there will be a hand sanitizer there, too, but what about a serious face mask? You know, prevent the close and labored breathing of participants...

Anonymous said...

I carry hand sanitizer in my purse all the time. When I go to a restaurant I use it after handling the menu. Some menus are so grubby and they've all been handled by no end of people. I also give the silverware a quick wipe too before I use it. Maybe I'm OCD, anal or whatever, but it makes me feel more comfortable even if I do look like a nut when I'm doing these little cleaning rituals!

I've heard that some of the most germy things we touch are shopping cart handles, escalator and stairs handrails, door knobs and the poles on the subway trains. It's a wonder any of us are still alive!

What's this thing that is on the TA fb page about 6,200 apartments coming out of the J-51 tax exemption in June of this year? I don't understand it at all.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I read that and other things, including Rick's new bullshit letter. Right now there are too many things happening for me to give a proper response, but I will, no doubt.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Part of Rick's message to tenants:

"We take enormous pride in the work we do every day to make Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village a great place to live. From our voluntary, and ongoing, commitment to preserve 5,000 affordable units, to our more than $250 million investments to improve the property, to the more than 400 people we employ across the campus, we are proud of what we have done — and will continue to do — for our 28,000 residents."

Did he actually say "campus"?

Anonymous said...

I did read that in the case of the coronavirus, hand sanitizer is effective. Not other viruses, though.

Anonymous said...

Yes, he actually said "campus."

He signs his signature like Donald Trump. Thick black marker and unreadable Same sick ego?

Anonymous said...

"Campus" has been idiotic current-culture, "meme," corporate-speak for several years now.

It is used for institutions such as hospitals, in addition to colleges/universities for some time. It is part of the utter imbecility and homogenization and dumbdumbdumbdumbdumb intellectual garbage that has helped governments and politicians and banks and people with too much goddamned money destroy life for most of us.

Which reminds me, and I hope to offend no one with this: an old joke - "If you want to know what god thinks about money, look at who he gives it to."

Anonymous said...

So now the 5,000 affordable is "voluntary" on Blackstone's part? If it's voluntary, it won't necessarily also be "ongoing," will it? Total contradiction in terms. And 6,200 refers to the Roberts court decision. Did ALL of you forget that that shady settlement expires this year? Big Money from Roberts went to the TA, too--with zero accountability.

Anonymous said...

It really doesn't matter what they call it these days because it is what it is. It's a Blackstone property and it is doomed to being what Blackstone properties become. The TA and our so-called representatives can't do anything about it. No point in paying $50 for TA membership because remember that they got us into this. Who was the TA bigshot who lives next door to Jonathan Gray in the Hamptons? He dug our graves and we are all on our way into those graves.

Money and Power are supreme around her and we tenants have neither. Don't even give a passing thought to the idea that anything will get better. It won't. The best thing any of us can do is hang on as long as possible and make sure that we warn anybody and everybody who even thinks of renting here that they should run as fast as they can away from this place.

I wonder if Mr. Brilliance realizes that the "informational" blurbs he has posted in the elevators is unreadable unless you are quite tall and have excellent eyesight?

I was out in Queens yesterday and decided to drop in on a friend to see if she wanted to go to lunch. As it happened, I had forgotten my cell phone and couldn't call ahead. I had also forgotten her apartment number, although I knew what floor she lives on. It is one of the older more "regal" apartment buildings in Astoria with very good security, but not a doorman building. Fortunately, I was able to locate her apartment number and buzzer number from the very clear listing of names and apt numbers on the intercom (which was a hell of a lot easier to navigate than our intercoms are). If the manager of that apartment building was like the rocket scientist we are stuck with, I would not have been able to contact my friend.

I can't believe we have such a total idiot running a place the size and diversity of this PCVST, To think they actually pay him a salary to be such a fuck-up!

Let me interpret, having been several times to that police neighborhood meeting:

ST: You know that encampment is real eyesore and hurts us in the quality we are going for.

Would not surprise me if the city paid Blackstone to put up homeless here. They will do anything for money. These apartments are already filled with students, tourists, city subsidized, and what not.

Anonymous said...

All that shit about privacy, but they hire guys (from who-knows-where) to traipse through your apartment in their dirty shoes, taking photographs and giving only grunts in response to questions. I was particularly offended by the intrusion into my bedroom which has no peeling paint and was not invaded by the "inspector" last year, who was a lot nicer and very respectful.

So sick of these unprofessional, abusive idiots who run this place. Especially Rick-the-Dick as he is referred to by several of my neighbors. Nobody buys his smarm and bullshit. He probably is in his element in some tacky "resort" camp, but he's out of his depth here. Doubt Blackstone would come up with anybody better though. Blackstone isn't known for being a decent and caring landlord. Blackstone is known for being a bloodsucking, abusive ghoul of a landlord.

It adds insult to injury when Rick says "Warm Regards." It would be more honest if he signed his stupid communications with "Fuck You, Sucker."

Anonymous said...

I was reading the reviews for the two resorts Rick ran. Not great reviews. Some people loved the places, but many didn't. No hot water, backed up plumbing, rude staff, etc. Sounds familiar. Not saying the reviews are for the time Rick was there (don't know when he managed those places), but they were not great places and not particularly well run.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>Would not surprise me if the city paid Blackstone to put up homeless here.<<

There are many types of homeless, and each one has a story, and some have just excuses for doing nothing. Many have drug and/or alcohol problems. Rick may agree with me, but he dare not speak his mind on this as Blackstone is in charge and he has to show "compassion." But we as a city are heading to another San Francisco and Los Angeles with our homeless. We can't be afraid or bullied of speaking the truth. We should offer help where needed (if we can) and not so much help if we are being played for suckers.

Anonymous said...

There's a very interesting article in the NYT Magazine (tomorrow's paper already in digital form) about Blackstone and its predatory practices that are really criminal.

The things that the likes of Schwartzman, Mnuchin, et al., have done amount to crimes against humanity.

Anonymous said...

STR, I don't think that the words "Blackstone" and "Compassion" belong in the same sentence! Blackstone is evil. Pure, unadulterated evil. I have absolutely no respect for anybody who works for Blackstone at any kind of executive level. I despise Rick and everything he represents because he is a puppet for a very evil (some would say Satanic) organization. The evil actions of the Schwartzmans of this world are behind so much of the misery and suffering that exists in this country and around the world. Greed, opportunism and unbridled avarice of biblical proportions are bringing this country down and people like Rick Hayduk and his kind are just sniveling lackeys, but the rot is at the top.

I am not optimistic about the future of this property or this country!

The words "Blackstone" and "Compassion" don't belong in the same sentence, unless it's too state their "lack of."
Read the NYT today - the Magazine - it will tell you all you need to know about Blackstone and its "compassion."

As for Rick, he is a fucking idiot and we are unfortunate enough to be saddled with his mode of mismanagement. Sure, let the kids cough all over each other playing contact sports. Who cares? It's the parents' responsibility - and we have seen some priceless examples of parenting here.

Rick hasn't done a single thing to improve this place since his butt hit the CEO's chair. He fucked up our lives with his insane and inane and ILLEGAL removal of the directories; he's fucked up our peace and quiet with his revolting events in the Oval (or what's left of it) and he insults our intelligence on a daily basis with his smarmy lies and phony platitudes.

AND in the season of colds, flu, bronchitis and now Coronavirus, he has kept the heat to the bare minimum (and in a lot of units way below that level) while using well-known harassment tactics of putting the onus on the suffering tenants with the damned thermometers and bozos traipsing through our apartments, bringing in god knows what in the way of germs, dirt and fucking attitude.
Now tell me about Blackstone and its compassion.

Management should provide masks and gloves to our porters because I've noticed that a lot of the cretinous morons who live or dorm here throw their used kleenex (and other items) into the recycling bins. I won't go near those recycling places at this point. Everything except glass goes down the chute. I hope they are sanitizing the laundry machines too. I always disinfect any washer I am going to use and use laundry sanitizer.

Anonymous said...

Our porters should get hazard pay for the work they have to do cleaning up after the filthy slobs who live here now. The recycling area is an absolute shambles with all kind of shit dumped everywhere and anywhere. They should take the recycling bins away and just have one big trough for the swine to dump their shit in. It is absolutely horrendous.

Another thing, the higher the prices of the laundry go, the worse the equipment becomes. This is really nothing better than a nasty slum at this point. If Rick ran his resort gigs like this, then it's no wonder they got lousy reviews.

Anonymous said...

@March 8, 7:58 PM: You are absolutely right. The washers and dryers are constantly breaking down and the dryers don't even dry! I had to put a small load of towels through the dryer twice today and even after that they were still slightly damp.

I think I'll have to go out to one of the laundries in the neighborhood from now on because I can't deal with the aggravation involved in doing laundry "on campus!" Another thing that happens all the time here and is SO annoying: some people leave their stuff in the washers for hours after they've finished and then when somebody whose wash has just finished is about to use the one or two available dryers (because the dryers are always two or three down) the lazy sod who just remembered their stuff comes and appropriates those dryers. This means at least another 45 minutes wait for a dryer. It is really too much aggravation and wasted time to use the laundry rooms here, so I'm going to shop around for a decent outside laundromat. I like to do my own laundry so don't want to send it out.

The people who repair our machines can't be that great because the same machines break down over and over again. Could be it's just inferior equipment though. There used to be a guy named Anthony Forte who was the go-to person when there was a laundry equipment problem. He was very good at getting things sorted out. Unfortunately, he is no longer working here, so I assume he was one of the people Blackstone couldn't afford to keep on the payroll when they got hit with that "devastating" change in the law. Too bad they didn't get rid of the dead wood that currently works here instead.

Does anybody know if Wesley, the landscaper is still here? He was/is really top-drawer and that makes me fear that he's no longer here. Of course, the highest paid and lowest skilled employee is still here, thinking up more and more ridiculous annoyances and inconveniences for the "happy campers."

@1:25 PM: I totally agree. The hot water should be HOT and the hot setting on the dryers should be HOT. Bacteria and virus thrive on damp, lukewarm clothing and surfaces. Those machines probably spread more disease than a dirty toilet.
Rick and his Masters probably decided to save money by cutting back on the heat of the washers and dryers and figure they'll make more money if tenants are forced to pay for extra time in the dryers. They are a really, vile, evil, money-hungry bunch who own and run this place. Their greed and avarice is of BIBLICAL proportions. My disgust and contempt for Rick and his Masters is beyond description. I have to blank them out of my mind as much as possible because they make me so angry and that is not good for my health. As I don't want to leave a mess in the elevator, I look away from the notice. I hate and detest hypocrites. If you're a bastard, just be a bastard. As much as I have the utmost detestation of Rob Speyer, I have to hand it to him that he never pretended to be anything other than as evil as he was ugly!
He didn't insult our intelligence by pretending to be nice. Probably he wasn't capable of that. Our Rick is an accomplished actor!

That is what I hate most about Hayduk and company. Hypocrites.

I checked with some of my neighbors and they had been left out of the Directory even though they opted in. We have such a pack of blunderers working here. I doubt they would find employment anywhere else.

Anonymous said...

The put the directories up, but several of my neighbors are totally pissed because they opted in and their names are not there. Their apartments are listed as "Private." What a bunch of fuck-ups.

Forget the stupid hand foam by the elevators.
It's tacky.
Wash your hands in your apartments.
Here is a novel idea, Rick.
HOW ABOUT SOME FUCKING HEAT?

I have just noticed that so many of the apartments are listed as "Private." That does not bode well. My husband and I and our three children (all under the age of 12) moved last year from a town (which I will not name) to Stuyvesant Town. The place we lived in before had a lot of "anonymous" or "private" listings for the several apartments. Turned out that one of them was a sexual predator pedophile, who had often invited our 8-year old twins to go to his apartment for some "nice" photographs. Fortunately, my husband and myself had drummed it into the kids that they NEVER go to anybody's apartment without us at any time and under any circumstances, Of course, the pedophile had listed his apartment as "anonymous." So now we come to NYC and move into what was always considered a normal, respectable, middle-class housing complex and are confronted with a listing of "tenants" who want to be private. We have to ask ourselves: what are they hiding? Why is Management letting them do this? Is Management so low on funds that it can't afford to list everybody? What kind of people is Management renting to?

Believe me, after our experiences, we are very, very disturbed at this unorthodox approach by Management and have to wonder just who are they catering to. Decent, normal people? Or some other kind?

At first we liked this place, but now? Not so much. We belong to a support group who share experiences of having had our children seriously endangered by predators. We will NEVER recommend that anybody move into this property so long as Management is catering to the "Private" type of tenant. Could be hookers, pedophiles, drug dealers. Who knows. Our biggest concern is for our children.

I have lived in Stuyvesant Town for almost 35 years and have always been happy here UNTIL it was sold to predators. We survived Tishman Speyer and CWC and now we have Blackstone. It's been a downward spiral for almost 20 years.

What is wrong with this Management company (or owner, I guess) that they don't know that everything they do is a negative? Is it deliberate harassment or simply ineptitude? The current Manager seems like a nice enough guy, but he does the craziest off-the-wall things. Who asked that our names be removed from the intercoms and directories? Nobody I know! What kind of people are they renting to now who are afraid or ashamed to have their names listed in the intercoms and directories? Do they not realize what confusion and distress this new edict creates for people who are used to having their mail and mail order deliveries delivered in an orderly way?

What kind of people want their apartments listed at "Private?" Brothels? Massage Parlors? People on the run from the law? If you are so very important (or sinister) that you don't want your name in the directory, then I think you are renting in the wrong type of property.

I believe that the guy who runs this place means well, but he is totally out of depth in running a NYC apartment complex. We can take care of our own personal hygiene, thank you, without your sanitizer pumps, but we would like our mail and mail-order deliveries to reach us. We are not ashamed to live here and don't need to be "Private." Clearly, some folks are ashamed to have their names in the directories or maybe they have a different agenda. If you are SO IMPORTANT that you have to be totally incognito, then you don't belong here!

Anonymous said...

Just came home and saw the Directory Board in our lobby. So many names missing and they are people who I know FOR
A FACT wanted to have their names restored to the Directory. Half the names are "private" and they are tenants who were pissed off at having their names removed.

O'Lord, please rid us of this major league aberration of a management and the major league fuck-up who heads it up.

Who do we go to now? The TA clearly didn't come through, so who?

Anybody who doesn't live here, but is thinking of living here: DON'T. You will regret it. I promise you will regret it!

If my name isn't restored tout suite I am going to contact a lawyer because I opted-in to have my name in the directory and it is fucking up my life not having it there. I get a lot of hand deliveries from my employer as I'm working from home and they can't find my name and think I don't live here. This is losing me money because I have a quick turn-around time.

I want a rebate on my rent for as long as my name and apartment number is not listed in that fucking directory!

This was done on purpose to make people believe that a large number of people opted-out, which is a complete lie. I know 4 people on my floor who did nothing, which was supposed to mean they opted-in as per Ricks directions, and they are not listed. Only the people who selected the opt-in option are listed, even though it specifically said no action was needed unless you were opting out.

This is another case of optics and deception ion Ricks part. Just like he put neon vests on the guards to make it seem like there were more of them, he now put the directories back up making it seem like more people opted out then is truly the case.

All the good Rick does for causes outside of this property is completely overshadowed by the path of destruction through deceit and lies that he carves through this property each and every day.

Why isn't my name in the Directory?
What incompetent fools run this place!

Anonymous said...

They don’t have the slightest clue who is occupying 40+% of this property. Surely there is a person with a legal lease in most cases, but the people living with the actual leaseholder is completely unknown to management.

The "privacy" issue that has been brought up by Rick and his Blackstone higher-ups is one of the biggest loads of horse manure that I have seen around here. I checked downstairs and half the names are now "private." Of course, if you have "residents" who are here temporarily and don't give a shit, and some are illegal, this privacy either doesn't matter or is wanted.

Anonymous said...

Because Rick told you to do nothing if you wanted to opt-in, but his lies are becoming more clear. You did have to do something if you wanted to opt-in. Now Rick will say you have to wait 3 months to get your name up because he is trying to pull a fast one on each and every one of us. Despicable.

Anonymous said...

There are several people in my building who definitely opted in, but they are listed as "Private." What kind of dumb ass runs this place?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Hey, let's just go back to the old way. If you live in the apartment, you are listed.

Anonymous said...

I hate to say it, but I think that at this point it is wise to assume that everything that comes out of the mouth of Rick Hayduk is a lie. I didn't used to think that way, but this "privacy" debacle has convinced me otherwise. The only reason for this "privacy" nonsense is that Blackstone doesn't want to spend the money on maintaining the directories. Maintaining tenant directories is not only a legal requirement, but it's standard practice in NYC apartment buildings. The absolute parsimony that is being practiced, such as not putting tenants' names on doors because they will save a dollar or two, is really repulsive. This kind of nitpicking greed is disgusting and despicable.

I have no respect for Hayduk, Blackstone or the corrupt TA and politicians who prostituted themselves to strike a deal with this evil corporation.

"They don’t have the slightest clue who is occupying 40+% of this property."

A truer statement has never been uttered! The Clowns at Beam Living are the most incompetent in the business.

BIGMO said...

If a law doesn't exist in NYC already one should be enacted to ensure all primary leaseholders are listed in a common directory in each building. Nobody should be allowed to be listed as 'Private', 'Unlisted', 'Anonymous', etc.

I think it's important to know who your neighbors are not just by sight but by name.

With all the new tenants listed as 'Welcome Home' on their door labels how are we supposed to address these people? Is it Mr. or Ms. Home???

"Welcome home Mr. Home!"

"How do you like your new home Ms. Home?"

E.T. phone Home!

Anonymous said...

One of my neighbors said she accidentally checked the wrong box and that's why she is listed as "Private." We should never have had to go through this nonsense in the first place. A totally unnecessary decision that has caused confusion, annoyance and inconvenience. Hayduk should concentrate on the important things around here, e.g., adequate heat, noise abatement and keeping the place safe. That "Privacy" debacle was a totally unnecessary fiasco created by a man who really doesn't know his job. Before he makes sweeping decisions like that he should find out if he is within his legal rights even if he doesn't care how much it angers and inconveniences tenants.

Surely, he and we have much more important things to worry about!

Just when I thought Management was listening to the bitching about those uncovered thrown-away mattresses and having them covered in plastic, per law, I saw not too long ago an uncovered mattress on the loop. Ah, well....

The hoarding of food and cleaning supplies is getting out of hand. Today Trader Joe’s had a tremendous line in the morning. Most mornings it is empty. It is nearly impossible to get hand sanitizer. I managed to get liquid soap in Walgreens yesterday. They need to put a cap on the amounts that people can buy. The hoarding is becoming outrageous.

Anonymous said...

Those uncovered mattresses could be covered in Coronavirus, but that's ok because we have hand sanitizer pumps. I pity the people who work here, especially the porters. They should be given hazmat suits.

Let's face it, we live in a dirty slum.

>>The hoarding of food and cleaning supplies is getting out of hand.<<

This evening I was at Target and Trader Joe's. A lot of empty shelves at Target, and very long, long lines at Trader Joe's, including some empty shelves. People are really freaking out like it's the last days on earth. A lot of hoarding being done. Total lunacy.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

People in power have to step in and limit the amount people can buy.

Whose responsibility is it to cover the discarded mattresses in plastic? Tenants' or Management's? Doesn't matter, because neither cares, and there's no enforcement by NYC, at least here.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Ultimately, Management.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Was over at Target a half hour ago or so. Many empty shelves still. Had to buy bread at another store. No, not Trader Joe's. I dare not go in there with the crowds.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The local politicians and our mayor should stop this hording. The stores, too. Waiting....

I agree. They especially need to limit the sales of hand sanitizer and staples. People are so selfish. Unbelievable how they are hoarding.

"See that is where you are wrong ... They serve the same exact function that a mall cop would serve in a mall, deal with an issue the best you can while awaiting actual police, so explain to me how their role here is different? They do the exact same thing, just in a residential community."

-----

See that is where you are wrong.

According to Blackstone, PCVST is officially a "campus" and not a mall or residential community.

Campus security performs a very different role compared to that of a mall cop or private residential security service. Immature students lodged in dorms on campus are "more protected" by campus security providing a safe, secure environment enabling them to experiment and feel free to engage in behavior that would routinely get them arrested and tagged with a permanent criminal record if committed off campus.

"According to Blackstone, PCVST is officially a "campus" and not a mall or residential community."

FYI, the word "campus" is now used for almost any type of housing complex. My mother in law lives in a large assisted (various types of senior living arrangements) living complex in PA and the management always refers to it as the "campus". I am not disputing that PCVST, especially ST, has turned into a major dorm/transient dump but to get hung up on the word campus is not going anywhere.
