The Way We Look - All Photos Taken February 8, 2020

It may be hard to tell, but smears here are at the Oval and close to the small PS booth:

[Photo removed by me, Feb 11, because I don't want to look at dog piles any more.]

Down below. A different path, same problem. I was passing and saw a pile of unpicked dog shit. A few hours later, something (a club car?) must have driven over it, squashing it. Sorry for the dog dropping photos, but nothing changes, and there is NO Public Safety to escort non-ST or PCV residents out of here. Everyone knows that this place doesn't follow some rules, even Management's own rules. But we do have S'mores and Songs. From Management: "Who says city life can’t come with bonfires and s’mores? Make s’mores at the new fire pits for $5 with profits benefiting The Bowery Mission. A guitarist brings a sing-a-long for some 'Kumbaya moments' with complimentary hot chocolate & coffee."

[Photo removed by me, Feb 11, because I don't want to look at dog piles any more. But these "leavings" are standard to see here in Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. Management does nothing.]

I apologize for a couple of photos, but they had to be taken. A new post up. I wasn't going to post on this mattress and dog topic, but I couldn't believe what I saw this morning. Everywhere I went. I see negative things all the time when I go out, but today was extra "sight-viewing."

I think it is glaringly obvious that Rick Hayduk is just not up to the job. He's a loser in this job he has. Maybe he is good when he's working in the "hospitality" industry, though I somewhat doubt it. I would be terrified to stay at a hotel run by him, knowing what I know now. He is an arrogant, glib grifter and that makes him perfect from Blackstone's POV, but for tenants in this dump he's the equivalent of having Nurse Rached caring for you if you were in the hospital! He is lazy and incompetent at his job here. He totally disgusts me. The best I can wish for him is that he moves on SOON!

Anonymous said...

What a dump.

This mess is a reflection of the incompetent person who runs this place. It won't ever get better (in fact, it will get worse) because this is typical Blackstone. Acquire, suck the blood and destroy is the Blackstone business model. Blackstone is known for being the Universal Slumlord and for hiring only the dirtiest of the dirtiest to run its "acquisitions" into the ground. Do a little research and all will be revealed.

And if he moves on, we will get someone equally bad. How many times do I have to say that he is fulfilling the company mission.

I don't care how many times you say it. I think he is just a total asshole, liar and jerk. He is not qualified for the job and I think they could get somebody better.

The upside of them taking out the directories is that I can now sublet my apartment and they won't know. It's an unrenovated unit, but a couple of students would love it and I can make a few hundred dollars profit. Thanks Rick.

I'm planning my next video, a longer one, that will talk/show what is good and bad about this place.

Those photographs show an absolutely disgusting state of affairs. We might as well be living in a garbage dump. Well, maybe we are. We never, ever had these deplorable conditions in the past. I am embarrassed to bring friends here. What with no heat, constant noise and the once-beautiful grounds looking like a dump, this is bad. Very bad.

We used to have Security. Now I see that the Public Safety team comprises six male officers and their female chief. Six officers to cover the whole of PCV and ST and they can't all work at the same time. Let's face it, we have NO Security/Public Safety. Everything that was good about this place has been taken away. I wish they would take away that incompetent jerk who calls himself a Manager. He's a total loser and not very intelligent.

The AirBnb-ers and illegal subletting is getting out of hand.
There are three apartments on my floor alone that are being used for this purpose.
Is it possible Management is unaware?
Or do they just turn a blind eye?
I don't get it.
I see tourists with "wheelies" here all the time.
Please explain.
Thank you.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>The AirBnb-ers and illegal subletting is getting out of hand.<<

Several posts ago, there was proof that Blackstone is connected with AirBnb. And there is no willpower for Management to go after AirBnb or illegal subletting. On Management's part when they do something, it's for show, and that's it.

Anonymous said...

An apartmnent on my floor has been used for AirBnB for about four years now. I don't think Management has any idea of who lives here and who doesn't. That's why they removed all the names from intercoms and took down the directories (which every apartment building in New York is required to have by the mailboxes). I don't think they care just so long as the rent is being paid! With AirBnB and a handful of "Public Safety" officers for the entire complex, it's not surprising the best Management can do is tell us to keep our doors locked. The AirBnB people probably don't bring crime - just bedbugs. One of my neighbors had that problem and it was a nightmare. Just warn anybody and everybody you meet NOT to even think of renting here! They definitely are on the take with the AirBnB industry and somehow manage to bribe enough of the City oversight crew to look the other way on all the violations they so blatantly get away with.

I really think they are running the place into the ground for some reason or other that they are not revealing to us. My husband thinks they are planning to tear it down, but that probably won't happen for a while. Could be that DeB is planning to house the homeless here and that will make sure that nobody else will stay. Who knows. It's a one-day-at-a-time situation because it just keeps getting worse. We had absolutely no heat all day yesterday and we have none now. No point in calling RS because you just get the thermometer script and the demand that you let in one of the "engineers." Space heaters do the job though. Let's hope the buildings don't burn down.

I wonder if we are going to have homeless people house in the unrenovated apartments that Blackstone can't make a killing on?

https://nypost.com/2020/02/04/homeless-families-to-be-matched-wit

With only half a dozen PS officers, that could be very problematic because many of those homeless folk have serious problems. Oh Boy! It just gets better and better! We gotta get outta this place - and warn everybody to avoid it like the plague. Paying big bucks to live in what is really, at this point, an overpriced, underserved and underserviced slum.

In the newest Yelp comment, the infamous Peter W has the audacity to state that there are 60 guards patrolling Stuy Town. What this moron fails to mention is the number of guards patrolling this place at any given time is not 60, but probably in the range of 8-12, which is incredibly low for an unarmed force that is supposed to be here to protect 30,000+ people. This guy has drank the kool aid to the point where he is completely deceiving and flat out lying to people who are venting their frustrations on Yelp- since the person probably got nowhere with Resident Services. How this guy and Rick sleep at night is beyond me.

Anonymous said...

"With only half a dozen PS officers"

Where are you getting this from? This is misinformation at best, a blatant lie at its worst. There is plenty of real facts to criticize the way Blackstone has defanged PS. Has the STR Alex Jones made a reappearance?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

From personal experience, this is what I see, not the facts provided by Management. I see PS walking along 1st Ave ST, but rarely do I see such paroling inside ST or PCV. I don't see PS stopping ("escorting") outside dogs and their walkers. I don't see PS report the constant uncovered mattresses on the loops. I do see willful ignorance of some of Management's own rules. The "rules" (city and Management) are constantly being broken. That is what I see.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I should also mention that I have seen PS "monitor" the cameras at the PS office with one PS person watching.

Anonymous said...

I know one of the few old time guards who has somehow kept his job through this regime, and he told me that they average 10 guards at any given time. Sometimes it’s a few more and sometimes a few less, but that it’s a safe bet that 10 guards are working at any given time - this includes the 1-2 guards monitoring the screens.

So the number is closer to a dozen (I wasn’t the commenter who said a half dozen), but no matter how you cut it, it ain’t enough. Especially since we have no actual armed NYPD officers patrolling the property.

Anonymous said...

Assuming Peter w. is telling the truth.

60 "Guards" at 3 8 hour shifts per day at 7 days per week yields 2.85 Guards at any given time on the property.

NO HEAT THIS MORNING!!

I live in the building that houses public safety and I see the same guards over and over. Not clear on the number, but there are not that many.

Illegal STPCV Hotel listing $125/night (Some illegal STPCV Hotels list for up to $400/night.)

Private room near Gramercy Park - 1 night minimum stay

2 illegal hotel "guests" booking a 1-week stay in this illegal STPCV Hotel will pay:
$875 ($125 x 7 nights)
$15 Cleaning fee
$115 Service fee
$1,005 Total

About the illlegal STPCV Hotel "Host"
Hi, I’m Alain (Joined in 2014)
I am French living in NYC.
Very friendly, open minded and knowledgeable.
I love travelling and couldn't live without it.
I love great food and socializing.

From a "Review"
December 2019
It was a great one night stay. Easy check-in and check-out. I highly recommend it.

Illegal STPCV Hotel host Alain has 14 reviews for other properties.

-----

Evidently, "Alain" is a professional illegal hotel operator listing his illegal STPCV Hotel and additional illegal hotels located at "other properties" dating back at last 6 years.

Just Call Rick was catering to the illegal STPCV Hotel operator and illegal, unidentified, transient STPCV Hotel guest demo when he removed STPCV building resident directories. He wants illegal STPCV Hotels to prosper and will do whatever he can to help "Alain" and other illegal STPCV operators remain anonymous and difficult to identify.

Illegal STPCV Hotel operators and their illegal STPCV Hotel guests pose multiple dangers to legitimate STPCV residents. They help Blackstone successfully execute Speyer's failed business plan to de-stabilize and shrink the legitimate STPCV residential community. They accelerate the pace of a Blackstone policy growing and churning a transient STPCV population, making it more transient at a rapid rate. They drag down our overall QOL. They contribute to the rising STPCV crime rate, becoming unwary crime victims, stealing packages left scattered on lobby/hallway floors, etc. Ever notice how, when he cannot prevent STPCV crimes from being reported in news media or change a reported crime location to outside STPCV, Just Call Rick is eager to claim victims/perpetrators are not STPCV residents? The truth is Just Call Rick in denial has no clue about the identity of thousands of short term transients temporarily lodged in former STPCV residential apartments converted into illegal, chopped up STPCV hotels and dormitories.

Worst of all, just like Blackstone, illegal STPCV Hotel operators and their illegal hotel guests don't give a flying fu¢k about PCVST infrastructure or the physical safety and security of legitimate STPCV residents.

BLACKSTONE SUCKS !!!

If your apartment is wired for air conditioners get a couple of space heaters. The oil-filled radiator type are very good. I have two of them and use them all the time during the winter months. We used to get heat when MetLife ran the place, but starting with Tishman Speyer, we have had less and less each winter.

Maybe you could contact one (or all) of our elected representatives (Powers, Hoylman, Epstein). I don't have much faith in them though because they are so thoroughly corrupt all the way through the bone. I miss the days when we had Roy Goodman and Steve Sanders representing us. They actually earned their keep.

You just hit the nail right on the head! The total bullshit that this guy spouts is mind-boggling. He treats us like we are stupid morons and he is too moronic to realize that we see right through him. He has no credibility at all and that is very disconcerting as this city is sliding back to what it used to be. The "Bail Reform" and DeBlasio's half-assed way of running the City is making it easier and easier for the criminals, especially the repeat-offenders. Meanwhile, Just Call Rick (no doubt at the behest of his masters) is stripping away our safety with impunity. I realized this guy was a dangerous idiot when he told PS to buzz in all the trick/treaters on Halloween. It will get to the point where we will be at the mercy of anybody who just wants to walk in and do whatever they want. We have such scant protection here and it is going to get worse. Unfortunately, we have nobody on our side. We have no viable TA and our electeds don't give a shit - especially as they are part of the problem.

There are so many deliveries going amiss just lately and it is not helped by the fact that there are no directories. Never seen that in any apartment building before. Last place where we rented was Los Angeles. We never had a problem with mail or package delivery. Every apartment building I've been in while living in NYC has had a directory board by the mailboxes as well as labels by the buzzers.

So glad we'll be out of here at the end of next month. Moving to Astoria and will warn everybody we meet to avoid this dump like a virus. The Manager is a complete idiot.

Yes - THERE IS HELP AVAILABLE. I CANNOT DO THIS MYSELF. AS I'VE WRITTEN, I MET WITH A COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION WHICH WANTS TO SIT DOWN WITH US TO DISCUSS THE HELL WE'VE BEEN PLUNGED INTO BY BLACKSTONE.

Meanwhile: that day in October 2015, I think, when I walked into the First Avenue Loop to see Susan Steinberg, Garodnick, deBlasio, a couple of then unknown suited middle-aged males (Hayduk and John Gray, head of blackheart's real estate division), along with the NYC press, I asked a veteran, real, caring Security Guard what was going on. He told me he didn't know. I guessed it immediately: WE WERE SCREWED. THESE WERE WORSE AND NEW BASTARD "OWNERS" WHO WOULD HURT US WAY WORSE, AND INCREASINGLY, MORE THAN EVER. I KNEW THEY WOULD RUIN STUYVESANT TOWN AND PETER COOPER VILLAGE, AND THEN BLOW UP THE BUILDINGS TO PUT IN CONDOS AND OTHER SH*IT.

Hardly anyone listened to me. Now, 4 or 5 years into the spiraling misery and abuse and neglect and perhaps downright sadism, many are suffering badly (even assaulted, burned out, raped, pushed into suicide, denied heat and denied quiet and sanitary conditions).

More people understand now. Whaddya gonna do about it?

I go outside every day, too. I also sit at PCV when it is warmer, and only once did I see a PS officer say something to an outsider with a dog. Since the dog walker was a female and pretty, he felt like "busting her chops" to show what a big man he was, and, to me, he was liking it. All the other times, outside dog walkers, with their dogs, enter freely, even by the larger guardhouse there. No one says a damn thing. I have also seen dog crap and smears at PCV. I assume it's cleaned up eventually. AND I have seen loads of holes in the paths at PCV. Nothing is done.

Stand Up and Fight: Be careful of the advice you give. Space heaters use a great deal of voltage and even though I plug mine into the electrical outlet that is specifically for the air conditioner, the plug still gets hot. Plugging a space heater into a regular outlet can result in at best a tripping of the circuit breaker and at worst a fire. No one should ever plug a space heater into anything other than the outlet provided to support an air conditioner. '

I'm sure you mean well, but bad advice can be extremely dangerous advice.

Instead I have joined AirBNB and some other sites and I will rent out my apartment at a profit and pay my mortgage with that income. I'd be stupid not to. Clearly it's the perfect storm here in NY. Since people are leaving the state and city in record numbers, housing, at least, outside the city is on a fire sale. So I have entered into contract to purchase a home that just 5 years ago went for several hundred thousand more than I paid for it and I will pay that mortgage with the income from AirBNB. Win win for me. Thank you to the Democrats for making NY so undesirable that I could get away with this.

If Management has been made aware of those potholes and then does nothing and somebody falls and hurts themselves, then Management. They have to be notified in writing about the conditions on the ground. If it is on City property then it has to be reported to the City.

311 is useful for that kind of thing.

This is true for potholes on NYC property. They need to be notified prior to filing a claim against the city or suing the city. However, it is NOT true for potholes on private property in this case the 20th street loop. It is Management's responsibility to make sure their property is not a danger to the public.

Think about it. Would you have to notify a private homeowner if something on their property is a danger to the public such as loose bricks falling from a house hitting a pedestrian passing by the house?

The TA had NOTHING to do with the directories being put back up. They were OK with them being taken down so don't believe their bullshit. Individuals calling the city got those put back up. You're welcome!

Oh come on, give me a break. This was an easy battle - the directories needed to be provided, so the TA takes credit for them reinstating something that needed to be provided in the first place. Where are their victories in the real battles, like heat, MCI’s? When they win some real battles, maybe people will take them seriously.

In the meantime I will take the $50 they are looking for and put that towards a portable heater for my freezing apartment.

The removal of the directories was/is a serious matter. Also, a serious violation of the law. NYS law and Federal (relating to the USPS) law. Do you think Management would have taken any notice of us? No matter how much we whined, they wouldn't have rectified/cured the problem without being forced to. That is NOT the Blackstone way.

I was told by a DOB or HPD tenant advocate back in early January that the landlord had 90 days to put the directories back up or face fines for every building. The TA had nothing to do with this except claim credit where none is due, as usual. Dick plays them like fiddle.

Anonymous said...

The TA "persisted" and persevered! Rumor has it that next they are going after the lack of heat, raw dog sewage strewn throughout the property at all times, and rat infestation. All for the bargain basement price of $50 per month. What would we do without them?

Anonymous said...

And the TA is making people believe that THEY are the reason why the problem has been rectified. How do we know that the TA has anything to do with it, other than them telling us they did?? Today, on my way, I cut through the lower part of PCV. I saw coming in two HUGE German Shepherds from outside. Now, where are those PS officers constantly patrolling this area? The dog walker entered as if no one had stopped him ever. And then we have those millions of cameras and thousands of monitors that keep us safe and secure. LOL.

There are no PS officers constantly patrolling PCV. I sit out there all the time and NEVER see a PS officer.

I see that TJ allows dogs into the store and, no, they're not service dogs.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I've also seen dogs inside Target.... Actually in most stores, even with posted warnings about bringing dogs inside.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I see people bringing in their dogs to Gracefully. Some hitch them outside, some don't. There is a sign not allowing these non-service dogs inside, but the ones who bring them in, don't care. Most, if not all, of the comments ("isn't he cute?") are from women, who may even show their dog affection by petting the dog. Again, this is INSIDE Gracefully. I see no police inside Gracefully, though I do see a PS officer once in a while buying something. Basically, I think the owner doesn't care, too, just keeping his ass covered with that sign. And, yes, it is illegal if there is any kind of open food, which Gracefully has.

Anonymous said...

STR, why don't you report Gracefully to the Health Department? I won't shop in food stores that allow dogs. There are enough of them that obey the laws. Also, a lot of "service dogs" are "bullshit dogs" imo. Btw, I love dogs, but not around my food and that is one of the reasons why I won't buy from the Farmers Market.

From Jeremiah Moss (Vanishing NY blog and book) must reading for everyone who follows this blog. Not PCVST but the EV. Many similar stories, the same demo.

"Open House
Welcome to New York; Now go home"

https://nplusonemag.com/issue-36/essays/open-house/

Some samples:

"I am listening from inside my apartment, ear pressed to the gap where door doesn’t quite meet jamb, looking through the peephole, trying to see who my new neighbors might be, knowing they’ll be the same as all the rest. Young and funded, they belong to a certain type: utterly unblemished, physically fit, exceptionally well dressed, as bland as skim milk and unsalted saltine crackers. “I work on Wall Street,” I hear one of them call to the real-estate agent. “Awesome!” the agent replies.

They didn’t used to be here."

"THE NEW PEOPLE COME with names that chime together like beads on a string. Taylor, Ashley, Kayla, Hayley, Madison (that one guy so far — he hailed from Wisconsin, hopefully not the state capital). I know their names because they get everything delivered. The packages pile up in the small entryway where there never used to be packages. The old people shop nearby, or else we don’t shop much at all. Now I am always tripping over boxes. Sometimes, I confess, in my hostility, I kick the boxes. Amazon, Amazon, Amazon. Sephora. Vineyard Vines with the smiling, pink, preppy whale. Kick, kick, kick."

I have gotten into VICIOUS arguments with people with dogs in stores with food. Walgreens employees are REQUIRED TO CLEAN UP THE SHIT AND PISS OF CUSTOMERS' DOGS OR RISK BEING FIRED.

If enough people confronted the assholes with dogs, this would stop. As usual, 99% of people keep their mouths shut and allow it to happen.

As has been mentioned in prior posts, one really should take a moment and fully appreciate this email blast from the TA. This is really happening people. The TA are patting themselves on the back for getting our names back on the building directories. They are touting their perseverance. Now anyone who views this blog, or the TA facebook page is fully aware of the concerns voiced by tenants regarding the shit and piss all over the property, the lack of heat, increased rat sightings, etc. The TA sees this, yet not so much as a mention regarding any of it. Nothing. It wouldn't be so bad if they just kept their mouths shut regarding the directories, but on the contrary, we should all be very grateful to have them around. What would we all do without them? Imagine the slum this place would be without the Stuyvesant Town Tenants Association. Cannot make this stuff up.

On the dog issue......

Business owners fear lawsuits that arise from Not permitting “service dogs” into their establishments. There have been many civil lawsuit brought across the country in regards to this law. The law is too broad in its scope where people can call just about any animal a service animal”including “emotional support” animal. There is an individual in the beam living office who brings an emotional support dog to work everyday. We are too scared of frivolous lawsuits made by entitled people who don’t actually need these animals. The licensing is a sham as many don’t need these animals. They just are pets.

This type of behavior is rampant in Stuytown with the younger group. Entitled selfish brats!

I get that but in this instance what the NYPD officers are doing is putting peoples lives in danger and for what? So they don't have to walk an extra block or two? I see illegal placard abuse on 18th 19th 20th st. etc but at least they are parked in what is an actual parking spot so as much as that is still wrong it's not necessarily dangerous. These spots on the corners of 18th through 22nd street on 2nd avenue are specifically carved out and differentiated by the DOT because they are required for pedestrian and cyclist safety. Then the NYPD just violates the law for their own comfort. I'm not sure how that officer can put on the uniform each day and then do this to the people in the very precinct they work in. Please note that there are 3 schools right in this vicinity so children are crossing with this danger all the time. Respect is a two way street. So if the NYPD wants respect it first needs to show respect and that is just not happening here in this precinct. Shame on the commanding officers.

This is SOP for ALL of the NYPD precincts in NYC, many FDNY stations, court locations, etc. In addition, many of these official cars have illegal defaced license plates which make them immune from traffic enforcement cameras and when it becomes active law, congestion pricing.

Never a "thank you" passes their lips when you hold the door for them, ask them which floor they want when they step into the elevator. My policy now is to ignore them as if they were invisible. They treat the world around them as if it is invisible, so let them get on with it. Get run over, trip over, have the door slam in your stupid kisser and ride the elevator up and down until you realize that there are no elevator operators a la the olden days.

I have never seen so many zombified screen-starers as I see now. Walk under the fucking subway car or under a bus. I won't notice. I promise you I can be as oblivious as you are, though I have to train myself to be that way.

I constantly have to tell someone on the elevator whose eyes are on the mobile phone and not paying attention that it still isn't the bottom floor they want, as they are ready to bump into me who is trying to enter the elevator.

The problem is that we have a group of people masquerading around as advocates for tenants, claiming they did something and then asking for money from us for their “successes.” So yes, it does matter who’s responsible, or at least who’s claiming responsibility. When I was coming in today there was a young couple with a baby (in a baby carriage) struggling to find a name in the intercom. They knew the name of the person they were visiting, but not the apartment number. Only that the apartment was on the 9th floor. I tried to help them find the name in the intercom and was totally confounded by it! Then I tried to find my own name - couldn't figure out how to find that either. I let them in and they went up to 9 to look at the doors to find their friends. They were trying to reach the person on the cell phone, but for some reason couldn't get through. I couldn't leave a couple with a baby freezing in the vestibule.

So, do you have to have a degree from MIT to find a name in our intercoms? The fact that the Dickhead in charge of this dump had removed the directories in the lobby didn't help. I'm guessing this would be a good place to move into if you were on the run and didn't want to be found, but if your friends and family don't know your apartment number and can't reach you by phone, then they are out in the cold. Literally!

Maybe tell the Manager that you don't like dogs around food (and around clothing they have because some people are allergic and don't want to buy clothing that might have pet dander on it) and then tell him that you are going to notify the Department of Health. They need to start taking this kind of thing seriously. Next time I see a dog in a store that sells food I am going to call the Department of Health.

We had no heat until around 7 pm. I had two space heaters on all day and still was cold. I can't stand this place. I really think they are trying to empty it of real tenants and only have transients because they plan to tear it down as soon as they can. The tenants association is totally worthless. They achieve NOTHING. Hayduk's reversal on the directories was not because of the TA, but because they had been put on notice that they were breaking the law and would be fined. Hayduk has absolutely no idea of how to run this property. He makes a cock-up of everything. I don't think he is doing what he does at the behest of his masters at Blackstone. I think he is totally incompetent and as arrogant as they come. A total asshole.

Woke up in the early hours absolutely freezing. Shivering under a [usually] very warm comforter. Just can't believe this is 21st Century New York City apartment living. It might as well be a tenement slum in a very low rent neighborhood where people have no advocates. Paying well over 3k to live in these conditions. It's criminal. The TA wants $50 to be a member? I can think of better uses for $50. I'd rather give it to a panhandler than give it to the TA.

Has anybody noticed that the TA facebook has little to no discussions of the appalling conditions here? It is filled with ads, recommendations and people asking for money and items for charity. Not that I am against any of that, but there is absolutely no discussion about the conditions here and the shit we are all dealing with on a daily basis. Obviously, it is Management-controlled. The other facebook for tenants (not affiliated with Management or the TA) is much more interesting and frequently raises pertinent issues. I don't think it has many members, but at least it's not another version of the Classifieds (which happens to be very good).

STR -

I believe, from experience, it makes sense to schedule a meeting with a member of the "Legal" Department - ideally, Fred Knapp, senior "counsel" (quotation marks around descriptive words used here because I don't know that the descriptors truly apply in my opinion). If that isn't possible, then one of the other members of the "legal" "team," whose names I'll omit here.

This is ONLY if you want to find yourself excruciatingly more angry, frustrated, disgusted, discouraged, appalled, STR. They are NOT going to respond to your phone calls or your e-mails. The only way to actually talk to them is face to face. And that experience, I guarantee you with 100% certainty, is going to cause you to feel much worse and a hundredfold more despairing about the living conditions here.

Remember, these are LAWYERS. They lie for a living. That is a given. And they work for some of the worst white collar criminals and liars of our time. Their individual personalities and ways of interacting with the residents vary, of course. But it is sure to turn your stomach, raise your blood pressure, and have you understandably thinking thoughts which are not publishable.

I'd stay away from them. NOTHING good can come of it. A good deal of misery for you will be the result. IF you've the ability to detach completely from what will come your way, then by all means do what you can to sit down and talk with any of these nice folks!

Rick is a Resort/Carnival Cruise veteran. I don't believe that he has ever managed a residential property before in his entire life! He must have been lured into the position he now holds by all kinds of lies and promises. He is the wrong person to be running this place because his mentality is all "hospitality" not "residential." Its a shame because he probably was a terrific resort manager. Probably, he is being used and abused by the amoral filth at Blackstone, and that's a shame.

We don't have bona fide respectable and respected attorneys working here. They are the lowest of the low. They give Ambulance Chasers a steep step-up of respectability! The plastics/glass/aluminum bin was full of all kinds of food waste as well as dirty take out containers and plastic forks. I don't believe these are recyclable and most definitely are an invitation to vermin. Speaking of vermin, I think we have plenty of the two-legged type living here. What disgusting, filthy slobs! I know that one of my neighbors regularly takes one of those huge garbage bags with draw-string handles down and dumps it in the recycling bin. It is full of all kinds of food garbage, glass, plastic, cardboard, etc. When I asked him why he didn't put it down the chute, he got quite snotty. Fuck him. Stinking swine.

They should just take away the recycling bins and compost bins because they are useless. At least they are rendered useless by the stinking slobs who live here these days. Maybe they should just have one for glass because that is injurious to the porters if it goes down the chute. The compactor shatters it and porters get eye and hand injuries as a result.

It wouldn't hurt if we had some managing the property who stop asking nicely (like he's talking to a toddler who won't eat his cereal) an would start clamping down on these assholes.

NO HEAT IN MY APARTMENT!
The thermometer THEY, meaning Management, provided reads 64 degrees.
Pipes are ice cold.

Why doesn't Management enforce the carpeting rule?
It is nearly 2:00AM and the people upstairs are walking around in high heels.
I don't get it.
Their lack of consideration is unbelievable.

The TA brass are as nasty and ignorant as management. They hate criticism and sold us out to Blackstone. Should not even be allowed to exist as an organization. They don’t even beg for scraps. They don’t care.

So, our overlord sent out an email. Removing of the names was only done for your privacy and safety. The laws requiring them are antiquated. But, afraid of the fines, we will comply with them. Oh, but we will only be updating them quarterly, because, with the constant churn of apartments we can't possibly keep up with the work. Oh, and BTW, you should really opt out of having your name there - it is for your SAFETY.

I bet it is a directive to make it a hard sell when people are signing their leases to have them opt out. Once again, for their safety.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Just amazing what is thought of these days and officially said. Just amazing.

Hahahahahaha... everyone pay your $50 now to the almighty TA, who’s lawyer found this antiquated law. What a joke. I haven’t had heat in 2 weeks, how about your lawyers fight for that Susan? MCI’s??

STR you are so right on!!! Un f**king believable! How did we survive before these morons took over!?!

What a jackass! In his illegal attempt to avoid work, he created more and managed to piss most of the real tenants of record off at the same time. Quite an achievement, Rick.

Anonymous said...

You should sell the website to Rick for double Peter W's salary to lie to everyone. Then simply start another blog. They're dumb enough to buy into that.

Anonymous said...

Hey Rick: Isn't the US Constitution also "antiquated"? NYC heating regulations were antiquated, too, so REBNY paid-off our City Council to loosen them. But Blackstone doesn't even adhere to the "modernized" version thereof....

Anonymous said...

Peter Stuyvesant has posted that we do not have to answer the survey or even check a box in the recent email from Hayduk.

This is all very confusing. I checked the "Opt-in" box and did the survey. I wonder what's going on here. It is all rather ridiculous, time-consuming and [hopefully] is costing Blackstone money. This whole thing about taking down the directories and removing them from the intercoms was a complete and total waste of time. Doesn't Hayduk have a legal team who should have advised in the first place that he would be breaking the law. It's not an "antique" law. It's the law of the City and who gives a shit what they do in other cities. This is New York, not Hooterville or wherever Hayduk would be most comfortable. I can't figure out why he causes unnecessary work, angst and controversy with his crackpot ideas. Just do the job you're paid to do and part of that is giving us some fucking heat in this weather on a consistent basis! That shouldn't be too hard for any mediocre property manager.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

This whole thing is a farce. Yes, I guess it's going to cost Blackstone some money now. First, do this; then, do that.... And round and round it goes. And this thing about the TA makes it even more of a farce. Of course, Blackstone doesn't care about certain rules, and, of course, the TA is going to grab at any opportunity to be relevant. Still a farce. Management and the TA prove it once again.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

This was posted on the other Facebook page, not the TA one. As I don't get any emails from Rick, even though I have asked numerous times for that, I am posting this in case other people also don't get Rick's emails. This email is also a good example of twisting and twisting in the hope that your email makes sense:

--------------------

Resident Privacy Concerns: Action May be Needed by You

After much deliberation and debate over significant privacy concerns raised by residents, this past November we removed all resident names from the two very public directories in the lobbies:

• the video intercoms

• the mailbox directories

The privacy concerns ranged from photographs of the directories being sold or used for unauthorized solicitation purposes (such as phone scams or political calls) to safety concerns stemming from the ease of identifying who lived in which apartment. As a result, the mailbox directories were removed, and the intercom directories had the resident name removed (yet the apartment number and the three-digit call-code remained).

If you already know that you would like your name to be removed from these public directories, scroll to the bottom now.

The on-going global narrative regarding privacy significantly supported the raised concerns. We recognize that not having one’s name publicly displayed in the lobby does not equate to one’s social security number being sold on the dark web. But the very public listing of who lived in our buildings and a resident’s exact apartment number was concerning. We felt the need to act. This coupled with the ease and accuracy of the on-line ordering process (for deliveries) or communicating your three-digit intercom calling code to a visitor, it made sense to err on the conservative side of privacy. Similarly, if a visitor forgot a resident’s apartment number, most residents are accessible by phone or text to provide the apartment number.

We guessed that those residents who took a position on the matter either take a strong position of “take the name off” or “leave the name on”, with a larger number of residents in the middle with a position of indifference. Knowing privacy concerns would only escalate over time (as we have seen with the increasing number of “remove my name requests”), we elected to remove all names.

Shortly thereafter the names were removed, the Tenant’s Association took the position that we should have asked residents to opt-out versus clearing all names. It was a fair request but one we disagreed with based on the aforementioned argument of escalating privacy concerns. Thus opting-in to have the name displayed was our response to the request by the Tenant’s Association. We then received notification from the Tenant’s Association legal counsel citing decade-old law and case law regarding the display of resident names and apartment numbers in a publicly accessible directory.

Despite being strong advocates of your privacy, these antiquated laws and case laws still exist, and we will comply, but with an opt-out option for residents.

As such, should you wish for your name to be removed from the publicly displayed intercom directory and mailbox directory (the apartment number and three digit calling code will remain), click the link below. If you wish for your name to remain in these public directories, do nothing and your name will be restored in mid-March.

With residents moving in and out, the directories will be updated quarterly.

Should you have any thoughts or concerns on this very important matter, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

With warm regards,

Rick Hayduk

CEO | General Manager

I really think Rick thinks/hopes that residents are stupid. Some are, but this email is insulting.

STR, I think that Rick is a total moron. He's not up to the job and I don't think he gives it the time and attention that it needs in order to do it successfully. He's not a good property manager. He would probably be better at selling time-shares or something like that, but he is just a dope when it comes to running this place. He's probably a nice enough guy, but he has caused so much havoc and divisiveness here that he really should go. I could forgive his ineptness if only he wasn't such a smarmy liar! Doesn't he realize that he has the credibility of a sleight of hand crook and, even if the people from the hinterlands are impressed by him, he just doesn't cut it with seasoned New Yorkers? Why is the TA such an abysmal failure? Because they are liars and frauds just like Rick. If they were any good at what they do, they would be swamped with applications for membership at twice (or more) the annual subscription.
So sick of these assholes.

I still think that he knows, deep-down, what's going on, but certainly some of these actions prove otherwise. He has to be a good soldier to Blackstone.

Although your spiel about Rick not being a good Property Manager is getting old, he is doing what Blackstone tells him to a T, I do agree with what you said about divisiveness. Rick points the finger at STR , saying that this blog is divisive, but in reality it is his actions and words that are divisive.

Since the word divisive is used so much in society these days, I’ve noticed that it is usually the people blaming others of being divisive are the ones with divisive words and actions themselves.

Rick is in the business of being divisive, whether he realizes it or not. He is putting on events and doing things to appease small groups of vocal people at the expense of thousands of quiet tenants who are not vocal. If that is not divisive, I don’t know what it.

Well said! Very well said! I have lived here all my life and I don't recall Potter constantly pushing dumb events and gimmicks into people's faces. We didn't get folksy bulletins from him (though email hadn't been invented then). He just ran the place quietly and efficiently and the majority of the tenants were content. There was a much nicer ambience here then because the place was so enjoyable (apart from the lack of a/c in the summer, but many New Yorkers dealt with that). Next thing we know, Rick will be bellowing over the sound system they set up in the Oval "Good Morning Campers! Rise and shine and check your events schedule." PCVST has morphed from being a quiet, well-run residential complex to a tacky Camp.

That is the way around here. If you call again and say it's an emergency and amplify what is happening, they should come sooner. There are other ways to clear a drain, but I am sure they (Blackstone/Management) don't want you to use them. Go to any hardware store and they can sell you something...

I wonder why Peter Stuyvesant posted this notice:

***VERY IMPORTANT RE: DIRECTORY AND INTERCOM NAME RESTORATION***

IF you want you name listed, you DO NOT need to do anything. You do NOT need to answer the Survey in Management's email, and you do not have to sign up for anything.

Doing nothing will have your name restored.

I did not complete the survey because it struck me that Management might be trying to figure out how we vote and it's none of their business.

While that may be true, the real reason for all the events is to MARKET the property in order to compete with other city buildings for tenants. It's a major way for Hayduk and Blackstone to entice unsuspecting, potential tenants to rent here.

Stuyvesant Town used to be one of the most sought-after places to live. It never had to advertise or engage in gimmicks. Now they have to beg for tenants like we have to beg for heat. I detest the bastards who run this dump.

False, phony advertising. These crappy events are not real amenities and I think most people see through it. Hence the large population of students, city subsidized and Airbnb here.

DeB will probably turn part of it into housing for the homeless. Since DeB has been in office the crime rate has risen, especially involving teenagers and juveniles. First Avenue in the Bedpan Belt is a no-go zone are because of the ACS facility and the mens shelter by the VA. I think it's pretty obvious that Sty will be utilized for his "progressive" programs. With that and the virtually non-existent security we have here, this is going to be one of the worst dumps in the city. It's getting that way already.

TA says Census needs you. Piss, shit, shit stains, and lack of heat will be addressed after census.

Please, they need your help......$50 per apt. per year.

The lack of heat in this place is absolutely unacceptable. I've never lived in such a badly run place before. I know the legal minimum is pretty low, but that shouldn't be the temperature they try to achieve! The legal minimum is to prevent people from getting hypothermia, not be comfortable. I can't wait for our lease to be up so I can get out of this horrible place and I intend to make it known far and wide that this dump should be avoided at all costs. I can understand the longterm tenants staying because they are probably old and management is trying to kill them off, but why anybody would pay top dollar to live in a nasty, dirty, cold SLUM is beyond me. We would never have signed that f*cking lease if we had known what it was going to be like in winter. Needless to say, we moved in during the summer months.

Cold, noisy, dirty, lacking security protection is how this place can be accurately described. Their advertising is just a pack of lies. As for those things they are always advertising (community "events"), who the heck wants to go to those things? They're pathetic. Maybe the old people like them, but they really are very lame. This is New York City! The events in small towns is better than what they put on here. I wonder if other apartment complexes put on the same kind of shit. Only nursing homes would do what they do here. It would be better if they just cleaned up the grounds (dog shit and litter is everywhere) and made them pleasant for people to stroll. Strolling around the place during the summer would be nice if it weren't for all the speeding bikes and piles of dog shit. They really need to get a professional management company to come in and make the place livable because the current one is a total failure. A good management company with experience in running apartment complexes could probably turn this place around and then it would be worth the money. I do realize that the apartments, though large (by NYC standards) are very old and drafty and heating them probably is expensive, but we pay over $4k per month in rent, so we shouldn't have to beg for heat, plumbers, basic maintenance, etc.!

The above is highly possible.

Anybody had their apartment "inspected" recently? Guy walks all over the apartment, including bedroom, with no shoes covering "booties" and there was no PS officer with him. Our rights are being violated and our privacy invaded all the time, but idiot Rick thinks he is protecting our privacy by ripping out all the directories and names from intercoms. This place has become a sick joke. Nobody in their right mind would move in here unless they were being subsidized. Even then, people are entitled to their dignity and being treated with respect. We get no respect from "management" here. We are the Rodney Dangerfields of NYC tenants!

Anonymous said...

Wait a second, who sanctioned the entrance of Blackstone into our lives in the first place? Oh that's right, it was the Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Towns Tenants Association. Aren't they supposed to be a tenant advocacy group? Why did they let yet another predatory landlord take control of this housing project? Why are they not giving an account and justification of their actions? Why are they not addressing the issues and concerns constantly being voiced on this blog and their own facebook page? Just sayin'.

Has anybody else got nauseous after eating the slimy, colorized stuff that passes for meat at Target? Even though the label says "Perdue" the chicken is tasteless crap. Same with TJ. The only things they sell (as far as I'm concerned) that are worth buying is their bagged salads, but even those are rough and tasteless most of the time. Associated may not have been perfect and their meat, chicken and fish was frequently past its sell-by date (regardless of what they put on the label), but at least there was variety and popular brands and most of the time their meat was good and fresh. Sick of this TJ stuff and "Good & Gather" stuff. It's gross! My lobby is full of boxes of "fresh" food from various delivery places. They do not (of course) even attempt to deliver it to the apartment doors, so it sits in the lobby and goes rotten (unless it is stolen). Where do we go to get fresh, decent food and frozen and canned foods that are made by well-known companies. I want Goya, Heinz, Kraft, Birds Eye and other trustworthy brands, not this TJ and Good & Gather crap that is made of who-knows-what. It doesn't taste right and has a nasty texture (all of it). Even their Half-and-Half gives me diarrhea.

Another reason not to move here!

@2:16 PM: I don't know how the TA was involved in the sale of the property to Blackstone, but I do know that when CWC was running the place it was perfectly acceptable to complain bitterly about it on the TA Facebook (just so long as you didn't use bad language). CWC had no control over the content or direction of the TA Facebook. Blackstone/Beam/Hayduk most definitely control that Facebook now. You have to toe the party line or be banished. Management monitors the comments and goes after those who criticize the terrible way the place is run.

Giving $50 to the TA is like giving Rick a big tip! Don't do it!

I don't know who you are, but I bet you deserve better than Goya, Heinz, and Birds Eye.
Reminds me of something I would here in 1975.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I think I bought Heinz recently (when Associated was open). I think the brands indicate that Trader Joe's certainly doesn't have them. I don't think Target does, either. The issue still is that one can't go beyond one's walking and carrying comfort to buy brands one is familiar with. The "choices" are getting limited.
