The diagram is from the city showing the rules for outside dinning. Click on image to make it bigger. The bus stop was on the corner. It was moved. A city bus stop. Why was it moved?

I hope that the next Mayor and City Council will be a LOT tougher on crime and disorderly behavior than the current loser and CC full of losers. Apparently, these illegal vendors are taking over everywhere and are causing a lot of the violence and shootings the City is currently going through. It seems (according to what I read in the NY Post) that the CC shifted responsibility from the cops the some Consumer Affairs department and they are totally useless.

Never voted Republican before, but this time I think I am going to vote Republican all the way down the line from Mayor to CC. Never thought I'd say this, but I think we need another Giuliani to come back and clean up this fetid sewer of a City. Not Giuliani as he is ow (he lost all his marbles a long time ago), but the way he was when he was Mayor.

So sick of "Progressives" taking us back to the days of crime and filth. If that's Progressive, then please give me the opposite!

Some people claiming their dogs got sick (one died) after being on the grass. I think that the vermin who run this place are trying to exterminate the squirrels. Either that or people are throwing food from the Five Turd E-Coli Cafe on the lawns.

Let's face it folk, a gang that would build two filthy fossil fuel power plants on residential property (right up to the windows of some apartments) is capable of absolutely ANYTHING that destroys life. Blackstone and Beam are a set-up of vile, murderous vermin who put money over and above all forms of life.

I hate and despise these evil bastards so much. Anyone who can support these people and the politicians who foisted them upon us should crawl away into a sewer and die.

To 12:08 PM July 18. I've seen em coming in carrying huge musical instruments - keyboards, saxophones, drums, etc. I need to get the fuck out of here while I'm still moderately sane. When it comes to repairs, etc., they can hound me or the rest of my life. They won't get a penny out of me beyond my last month's rent. Actually, they probably won't even get that!

Anonymous said...

Does anybody hear that car that goes along 14th Street late at night and cranks the exhaust and lets out loud explosions? I though it was left over fireworks that kids were letting off in the street, but then I noticed the explosions are always preceded by some loud snorts from the exhaust. Somebody mentioned it on one of the Facebooks. We desperately need some serious Police presence around here. It is becoming worse and worse. Somebody tried to break into a neighbor's apartment the other night. They terrified the poor lady. I don't recognize this place anymore! Compared to how it was a few years ago I feel like I have moved out of a nice place and into a horrible, dangerous slum - without having to actually pack up and move!

Anonymous said...

@July 19, 6:10 PM: I've heard of young people f***ing up against wall right under people's windows, and on the benches around the Oval, so it doesn't really surprise me that you saw what you saw. They probably weren't even cheap street walkers either; they were probably the shitty undergrads we are forced to live with if we choose to stay in this HELLHOLE.

Any POS who can make the rent can move in. In fact, I don't think "Management" even cares what they do just so long as the rent comes in from every unit. BlackLung would probably rent to pedophile rings just so long as they paid on time.

I agree with the posters complaining about the disgusting vendor situation on14th St, but that is under the jurisdiction of Councilperson Rivera, not Powers. She is the one that they need to target. He made a mistake by saying it was cleaned up one day, but that side of the street is in RIVERA’s district. Both are do nothings, but it is not Power’s district.

Anonymous said...

14th Street between First and A has become so unutterably gross and disgusting because of all those menacing, filthy people who are selling and begging. I live on 14th across from Target and I cannot bring myself to even go onto the street anymore. I go out the back way (Main) and cut through the property to 20th Street to shop at D'Agastino or Morton Williams. It costs more and it is a schlep when you have shopping to carry, but I just can't bear to go out onto 14th anymore. It is worse now than it was in the late 70s when I first moved in. I feel sorry for the small business on 14th. TJ and Target will thrive, though I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to move out. The small businesses are suffering badly because of all the filth and detritus (human and other) on that block. Maybe it should be renamed and called "Rivera Way" or "Carlina Walk."

I sincerely hope that she and Powers are disposed of come election time. DeBlasio has to be the worst Mayor in the history of the City. He is a total loser. Thank God for term limits.

Now that the Covid virus is mutating and spreading even more I can't understand why anyone would go to any of Management's Covid-Spreading "events," but some stupid people will go. Probably, most of them will be from outside and will bring their dogs. What a totally hideous SLUM this place has devolved into. If this is the way Blackstone does business I am not surprised it is one of the most hated corporations in the world and has been called out by the UN and other entities that care about human life and the fragile planet we all share. As vile as Tishman Speyer and CWC were, they didn't turn the property into the filthy and dangerous slum that Blackstone has. We cannot blame the Coronavirus for that. Blackstone has inflicted the disgusting conditions on us. I honestly cannot understand why anybody would even think of moving in here at this point in time. We have vagrants, addicts and miscellaneous human scum on 14th and filthy power plants being built on 20th. We are hemmed in by filth and hazards! The area was probably pristine in the 1940s when it was the Gas House District compared to what it is now! Wasn't a slum cleared by eminent domain so that Stuyvesant Town and PCV could be built? How ironic.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The bottom line is...that enough residents don't care. I would say most. That's what Blackstone is betting on, and their silly events that make the property look good to the outsiders. But, no, it is not good. Stuy Town still has areas that are worthy, but there are a lot of things happening that go against that. But Blackstone doesn't care and will BS or ignore negative opinions.

Anonymous said...

We care, but there is nothing we can do. We don’t have a viable TA and it is what it is. We got a raw deal with Blackstone. Despite the suggestions of rent strikes and such on this blog, that is not an option with a multi billion company like Blackstone. Let’s tell it like it is. It annoys me when posters on this blog say things can change and they have tricks up their sleeve. Nothing improves here. In five years this will be a city subsidized/dorm.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Blackstone will care when it affects their bottom line. Maybe the corrupt pols will care when they are replaced by their rivals at the election,

Anonymous said...

Democrats always win our local elections. Unfortunately Rivera and Powers are shoo-ins.

Ain't a Victim said...

I have no tricks up my sleeve. I have ideas.

Also, as I have written many months back: I, personally, have a difficult time reconciling myself to living on my knees, either begging or cowed. This translates into: Even if I believe that I cannot actually change the outer situation, neither do I have to accede to it. That doesn't mean I need to run away from it, either.

I can still resist. I can withhold my own rent (open a separate savings account and deposit the rent money in that) and then, when summoned to housing court, present my case. If and when a judge rules in Blackstone's favor, if I am in a courageous state of mind that day, I can politely ask them if they are either intimidated or paid off by Blackstone.

I can resist in a number of other ways. I can contact various community groups for help. I can communicate, repeatedly, with various media outlets, and with "resident services," and with various providers of legal services. I can talk to all manner of people about this. I can speak about this at various community meetings.

The list goes on. Again, taking action, and not acquiescing to my own (and others') victimization is always an option.

So, please do not be "annoyed" anymore, since I am not spitting into the wind or shoveling sh*t against the tide here.

The Blackstone agenda is written in stone. Fill the apartments with students, transients and eventually more city subsidized. Purposeful.

Tishman Speyer was a cruel landlord, but the property never deteriorated under them as it has now.,This Blackstone group has been the worst landlords that we have ever had. What say you, Garodnick, Steinberg, and the other politicians who swung this deal with the devil. Shame, shame on you.

Heard on the news that the air quality in NYC is likely to get much worse due to climate change. And they are building fossil fueled power plants right on the property and under our noses. Please, everybody, get the word out that nobody should ever even think of renting in this putrid shithole called Stuyvesant Town. A few trees don't mask what this evil, murderous landlord is doing. When it comes to AVARICE, Blackstone is the Satanic embodiment of the word. Getting out of here soon and plan to make as public as possible in every way possible what a deadly place this is. You want cancer, pulmonary disease? It is served up happily by Blackstone. If you are planning a family, don't do it here. Who the hell knows what kind of birth defects will occur to pregnant women living here.

There's a special place in Hell reserved for the likes of Jonathan Gray, Steven Schwarzman, et al. The soon they go and occupy their assigned spots, the better.

If you think this place is bad now, wait. Once the huge New School dorm opens this will be their campus. Like it or not the students will overrun the pig sty.

The MTA elevator on the South side of 14th St smells like somebody pissed in it.

I was in a Rite Aid over on the West Side today. Some woman came and cleared out the entire shelf of shampoos, dumped them in her shopping bag and walked out. The store manager said that they couldn't do anything if the value of the merchandise was under $150 and that the the police were not interested in this sort of crime.

This is NYC under DeBlasio. Can't wait for his ass to be out of office and I hope we get a real Mayor. I've bad it with NYC. I've never seen it this bad before. Would hate to be starting a family here.

WHY is this allowed? It's ridiculous! We need some REAL law and order in New York. I just don't understand why crime is allowed. Try that in Macy's and the security guys will break your neck. Well at one time they would, but maybe they, like the police, have been castrated by these criminal-loving politicians.

Gotta get out of here soon. It will get to the point where they will be able to break into your apartment and rob you and rape your wife and daughters and the cops won't be interested in hearing about it.

I would suggest stop watching CNN and listening to Pelosi, who should be escorted out of her office by voters. But, since it is a free country so far, you can think whatever and continue to be played. And, yes, both sides are playing, but, to get back to Stuy Town, take a look around and see the mess directly outside. Target had to be bordered up, and for a while there was policeman inside the store. And the vagrants with their junk along 14th street, and now closing in on the Stuy Town side. Yeah, the city has gone downhill because of folks like de Basio (not his real name) and weak local politicians.

The City has gone to hell. I don't blame Trump or Pelosi. I blame the useless fuck who is in City Hall right now. He pretty much gave a free pass to criminals and predators. Our local electeds are totally useless and only care about furthering their careers. I don't think I will ever vote Dem again, except for President. What happens at the local level means more to me than what happens in the rest of the country. I have never seen the City so filthy, dangerous and vile before and I've lived here all my life (though not in Stuyvesant Town). I used to live on the West Side when it was called Hell's Kitchen. Even there it wasn't like the shithole that East 14th has become. Even when they had the "shooting galleries" down Alphabet City (now laughingly called the East Village) I didn't feel so unsafe as I do now.
Now the MF-ers can come and squat on your doorstep and you can't do anything about it. We don't even have "Security" anymore. Public Safety (what a joke of a moniker) is as useless as tits on a bull.

Totally sick of the whole scene. And then these assholes invite us to "events" on the Oval. Do they think that makes us feel better? Shitty music and dreadful food at their Oval Cafe. No thank you.

A total embarrassment to the city destroyer (first Seattle then Manhattan) Cy Vance and the totally incompetent and laughably the next Governor of NY Letitia James. Millions of our tax dollars wasted on a fake scandal while real scandals go on right under their nose. Wanna buy some art? Hunter Biden can sell you some. Insurrection for what? It is a show by Pelosi and the rabid Democrats (different than the old Democrats) against the Republicans and certain American freedoms. Why was the National Guard repeatedly turned down before the "insurrection"? Why was the only person shot an unarmed Republican woman, an Air Force veteran?

To get back to NYC, what you see happening here is the new Democrats. Maybe with the new mayor coming up we will see some kind of return. Maybe.

Could you all please, please stop the national political arguing?

For starters, it is not fueled by an alleged "2 party system" (Republican/Democrat) problem on either side.

It is nearly all a class problem. Our rampant materialism, our insistence on dominating, using, destroying just about everything around us is the problem. "Money," "wealth," "prosperity," "object," "toys," "real estate," "possessions" are the manifestation of the misery we've created for ourselves, each other, every single living being on the planet.

The term "Power Over" comes to mind. We look to exert power over others, to control life itself as in trying to prevent our own deaths, creating life artifically, and so on.

Without true inner peace, humility, selflessness, desire that all creatures be healthy and at their ease, AND the actions to accomplish that . . .

we, as a species are in deep, deep trouble.

If every individual does not do the hard and courageous work of looking into themselves and making daily efforts to be better residents of this planet, the misery and needless suffering will only multiply.

The amount of moving trucks that are already around is ridiculous, and now we know it’s going to be so bad that they are closing loop roads and warning people to be understanding of delays in getting around our own buildings by elevator?

I’ve already seen three (3) M doors in Peter Cooper propped open for movers, and they aren’t even supposed to be using M for moves in PCV! Bottom line is this property is done. It will be a nice place for students and short term rentals, but I don’t see how there is any going back at this point. As more students come in, it will push the families out that are paying market rate, and true RS apartments are literally a dying breed.

Best of luck to all that need to stay, but my entire 50+ year life of only living in this wonderful place is coming to an end. Once the housing market is more reasonable, I’m gone.

I wish this dopey management would dispense with the "events" and put some energy into improving the qualify of life here, e.g., make sure the laundry rooms are clean and the equipment works; make sure new residents carpet their floors 80%. Maybe they would be able to get a residency of people who want to live here as their real home, rather students using it as a dorm. Everything they do seems to be a way of catering to transients.

Anonymous said...

"On another issue, when do you believe the vile and unsanitary eColi Five Turd Cafe will finally shutter its doors?"

When somebody gets sick and dies and/or when they get sued for giving somebody food poisoning. OR when they stop paying the Health Department inspectors to look the other way.

The bottom line is that the rents are too high for families and professionals for what you get here. People aren’t going to pay 4,000 monthly to live here. Management knows that and it has been a steady purposeful endeavor to create a dorm/Airbnb/ transient/city subsidized property. This place is done, becomes more of a dump every year., This was the intent of Blackstone from the start.

Add to that the hazards of walking through the property, trying to get to your building with that noise going on and all those silent, electrified bikes skimming by -- this place is becoming Hell. Absolute Hell.

Anonymous said...

I think that it is pretty obvious that, judging by the horrific noise even on the Oval, this new GM is an even bigger cretin than Hayduk was. The loud, intrusive noise from the tenth-rate "musicians" on the Oval was a total insult to tenants in the surrounding area. Stuyvesant Town has gone totally down the toilet. It caters only to morons who need to get lives. Most of the "crowd" on the Oval who were listening to this overly loud group of NON-musicians were from outside.

One of my neighbors got violently ill from eating ice cream purchased at that "Coops scoops" ice cream van. It is no longer operated by the guy who originally provided the ice cream (and has his own little thriving business on Avenue A). Some other entity took over and is clearly lacking in standards of public health and hygiene. I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who get sick from eating from one of the concession stands here or the Five Turd E-Coli Cafe because they should know better. Do they really think that this substandard management is going to make sure that everything comes up to Code? If they do, they deserve what they get.

Anonymous said...

That "concert" tonight was brutally loud. Management (or maybe the "musicians") have some plants on the Tenants FB page who are enthusing about how good it was. They must be desperate.

Welcome Home, Good Neighbors! To stuytown (tm)!

Jesus, what kind of carny schtick is that?

Reality check: It’s a fucking 1940’s housing project. With 1940’s plumbing and construction, still. And, I might add, intended to be permanently affordable housing for the working and middle class, until it was flipped to the wolves of Big Real Estate.

But, we won’t talk about that… See, we have a Pride Parade, we’re TOTALLY, like, socially conscious! Good Neighbors!

What Goes Round said...

Wait. Especially if it is students moving in again, they will be gone for the most part.

I'm not sure when, but it's an excellent bet that the Delta COVID-19 strain, or its cousins, more efficient variants, will shut down New York City again.

Better living through chemistry: In addition to COVID-19, in all its power and glory, other virus-caused pandemics are coming our way. Chris Christie used to brag that New Jersey was "Stronger Than the Storm," meaning superior to the effects of Hurricane Sandy of 2012. It wasn't even close to the truth. Mother Earth and beyond is patient and powerful and will sweep us away as everything is swept away.

With luck, the ones who create misery for millions will be escorted out first. If not, patience.

This is truly a situation in flux.

When the shutdown happened in 2020, students fled - not all, but many, if not most. This tiny little organism will, in the words of Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise, will "make it so."

BIGMO said...

I feel bad for the tenants that live close to the Oval. Thankfully I live close to 20th street and Ave. C. I could still hear the concert from my apartment. I could only imagine what it sounds like near the Oval.

This current property 'manager' is a true lightweight. He's likely an interim manager but knowing Blackstone maybe not. They hire people from the resort industry to manage a large residential housing complex like Stuytown/PCV. It's a totally different mindset and skills needed for managing Stuytown/PCV properly.

I've been here for 40 years and yes I've seen it decline into mostly a dorm dump. I do see young families move in but they often just stay a few years and move on.

For those old-timers pining for the 'old days' FUHGEDDABOUDITT! AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

There's no going back.

Affordable rent and good quality medical care keep me here and I'm fortunate to be able to leave permanently if the 'shit hits the fan!'

I will leave on my own terms. I've been a thorn in management's side for many years and they would love to see me leave. I even threatened to sue management unless they forked over some money for damage to my apartment caused by their negligence. I told that useless tool Hayduk that I had all my evidence for a successful lawsuit. He realized he couldn't win since I document everything and of course met my demands before any trial commenced.

"Affordable rent and good quality medical care keep me here and I'm fortunate to be able to leave permanently if the 'shit hits the fan!'"

That's what keep me here too. I've been here for 30+ years and have seen it deteriorate in the filthy, noisy transient dump it now is. We used to have good Management, but we have the barrel-scrapings of the resort industry and, as you say, they don't have the mindset nor the skill for running a large residential complex. They definitely have the resort/hotel mentality and I doubt they ran very upmarket establishments in that realm. It's a shame, but I'm glad I'm in a position to just walk away if/when I can't stand it anymore. They will get my last month's rent and nothing else. I am in a position where I don't need a good credit report (as are many of the longtime tenants). Meantime, I will deter as many people as I can from moving in here. The grapevine is long and widespread.

Unless they are planning to demolish the property in the near future, they need to rethink their business plan because it is going to be a sort of glorified Bowery Mission/Hostel/Dorm pretty soon. Maybe that's what they want. They rename it the Blackstone Blackhole - Housing of Last RESORT. :-)

@2:23 PM: I am so glad you stood up to Rick Hayduk and made him do the right thing. That guy was/is a Bullshit Artist Extraordinaire! He was totally FULL OF IT and I pity everybody who has or ever will have to deal with him.

Something that these people don't understand is that if you want to find a fool among longtime tenants here, you have to look very hard. Most of us have lived honest, clean and hardworking lives AND have a good education and were raised to have certain standards and principles. What we are dealing with now is a bunch of ruthless, nickel-nursing lowlifes. They may have money, but they are still lowlifes. Hayduk would look you in the eyes and lie and he always had that little smarmy smirk. He is what I define as a lowlife.

We must not and will not allow these lowlifes to destroy our lives. Of course, if we had a real tenants association and not a bunch of political ass-kissers, and if we had politicians who actually worked for their living instead of graft-takers who talk up a good talk and do absolutely NOTHING for their constituents (looking at you, Powers, you creep) we wouldn't be having to deal with so much grief at the hands of this totally incompetent and uncaring "Management." The buildings are dirty and unsafe; the laundry rooms are disgusting and the transients and students add nothing to enhance the property. They don't care that it is a dirty, noisy slum. They're here today-gone tomorrow. Too bad the property wasn't purchased by a decent RE company who had an interest in making it more habitable and would bring back some of what was so pleasant to live in just a few years ago. We have the TA and Garodnick to thank for the Blackstone deal. I'm sure they got their pay-offs under the table. Damn them!

The noise of the "concert" was an abomination.
The "food" at the eColi Five Turd Cafe is overpriced, unsanitary and disgusting.
Simply, an overpriced slum in the making.
How utterly sad!

Anonymous said...

The same "plant" on the Tenants FB who is enthusing about what a wonderful that "concert" was, is now trying to drum up support for some kind of food promotion on the Oval. He is very obviously planted by Management. I wish they would leave the Oval alone. What some "suit" from Blackstone once described as "a great resource" is fast becoming an over-used and worn out ghost of what it used to be. Blackstone is just destroying every last vestige of greenery and beauty that ever existed here. It's been like rape and pillage since the day this property was sold. There is very little left that makes it an appealing place to live unless you are a transient. It's becoming the Black Hole of Blackstone. These detestable people think of nothing but money. Like they think they are going to take it with them when they die.

My husband jokes that some day he is going to see people grilling on the grass. Well, last night I came pretty close. I passed a "party" in the fenced-in grass directly across from #515 - they were sitting around something that was definitely au flambe! In the dark, I could only see the flames shooting up and everybody around it oohing and aahing!

Anonymous said...

They do everything in the grass. Parties, picnics, I think that I once saw a grill. They have cheapened this property into a slum.

Anonymous said...

I had one discussion with Hayduk and I agree that he was an untrustworthy BS hypocrite. He told me the concerts would try earphones, that the noise was loud, etc. He did snow under many seniors, including friends of mine who enjoyed an email relationship with him. He was a wolf in sheep‘a clothing and set the tone for managing this dump.

They do want the mission/Airbnb/Dorm. It is getting more obvious by the day.

Keith Powers needs to be voted out with Rivera. Now our 14th St bus shelters are filthy homeless shelters. This neighborhood gets worse with each passing month. I notice that he won’t answer criticism on the TA site. I really hope he has a viable opponent. I really don’t care who it is. I will vote against him. Unfortunately he has a big following of toadies and rear kissers.

5:47: If I'd seen flames, I would have called 911 and reported a fire. Maybe I would have reported it first to "security," and if they either outright declined to appear, or took their sweet time, I'd have called in that fire to a firehouse.

I've been in too many fires, at home and work, to allow this particular brand of dangerous idiocy to occur without stopping it. And the assholes behaving this way need lessons in many different areas.

Another topic: the Blackstone minions are thugs. They behave like gangsters. They threaten you and bully you and terrorize you if you dare complain. Good luck to them because as already has been posted: What Goes 'Round . . . Comes Round.

Oh, and, their actions are those of bona fide psychopaths, probably of the sadistic variety, as in folks who kidnap people, take them to private, isolated locations, restrain them and then torture them, physically. If you dare cry out or plead with them for mercy, they accuse you of hurting their feelings and increase the torture. How dare you complain when they are are torturing you!

In reality, a lot of the human world runs that way. People assume "power" over other people in many ways, venues, spheres of human activity. And then do harm to you. And then either threaten you or actually harm you more as "punishment" for protesting. It's a time-honored strategy.

One of the really sad things about PCVST is that it was built for working-class families and returning service men and women and fulfilled that purpose for many, many years. People were content here (except we would have liked air conditioning a bit sooner than we got it in Stuyvesant Town = PCV always had it, I think) and there was a very long waiting list to get in here. MetLife turned a profit. That is on record. When it became a publicly traded company instead of a mutual insurance company, they suddenly didn't want to own the property unless it could go market rate.
I see no reason why the property could not become the same stable, pleasant place to live that it used to be. Now there is air conditioning and all the apartments are rent stabilized, there should be no shortage of people willing and ready to move in and call it home. There's no reason why they should churn the apartments and cater mostly to students and transients. They wouldn't need the bread and circuses business model if they got a decent, competent manager and staff.

Anonymous said...

10:56:

Met Life built and owned numerous housing developments throughout the country, but by the 1970s they were looking to divest of them all. I know this as a close relative was a member of senior management here in PCVST for decades. They held onto Stuyvesant because it was the most valuable property, and they were waiting for the NYC real estate market to rise. Vacancy Decontrol was stimulus they needed - the ability to double and triple rents made the place much, much more valuable.

And yes, we have A/C now, and every apartment is regulated, but at what price? Not many people are going to take a $4500 two bedroom and stay for 20 years. The rents they’re asking pretty much leaves out anything but short -termers.

Lots of students moving in today and I think Section 8 too. It is a parade of people who should not be living here. This place has deteriorated into a slum. Some of the people didn’t even know if they were in the right building.

"Lots of students moving in today and I think Section 8 too. It is a parade of people who should not be living here. This place has deteriorated into a slum. Some of the people didn’t even know if they were in the right building."

What's wrong with Section 8 people? I've known quite a few of them over the years and apart from being low-paid, they are fine. Very well behaved. Being poor doesn't equate to being a horrible person or neighbor. Some of the students and transients are very well-off when it comes to money, but are poverty-stricken when it comes to class, manners and respect for others.

Anonymous said...

That is true that they may be nice and good neighbors, but a few of my neighbors have had to move because of high rents, good hard working people who don’t qualify for assistance. Families and professionals on my floor were forced out because they couldn’t afford the high rentals. They were not offered any rent reductions and had to leave.

There are numerous photos of the deteriorating situation of 14th St on the TA website. Someone asked if Stuy Town knows or would do something since they have occasionally infiltrated into the property. What a joke. It doesn’t affect their marketing to students and garbage. Does anyone really think management cares. Media was also mentioned. Do not see much promise in that either, maybe. Those do nothings like Epstein, Rivera, and Powers have to do something. They all need to be voted out.

If people would like to contact "management," together, as a group, I'd be happy to join them. I am talking about jointly writing to any and all "management" and "legal" people and anyone else here in Stuyvesant Town regarding the CORONA-19 pandemic.

The news tonight on national TV (Sunday, August 1, 2021) was heartbreaking and frightening. Young children are hospitalized in critical condition with the virus now and there is a replay of severe illness and overwhelmed hospitals across the country

The Delta variant is spreading rapidly; we are seeing a replay of the original killer virus' misery.

It is worse in some ways since it is so contagious. And it is worse because individuals and companies are insisting IT'S FINE! THE PANDEMIC IS OVER!

We need to make sure that we do everything, collectively, to ensure that our safety is the first priority in the coming weeks, especially given the influx of new people and their possible behaviors which might expose all of us to the risk of an agonizing death thanks to COVID-19.

Please post here if you would like to write a joint letter and I'll be happy to arrange it.

"There is a roommate connect site online for this dump."

There's a bunch of roommate search sites accommodating STPCV transients.

Blackstone has no clue about the identities/backgrounds of hundreds, if not thousands of unidentified transients illegally crammed into thousands of former STPCV residential apartments chopped up and converted to dormitories.

How awful. He can’t even run this district , our area anyway. I do not know what his track record is in other sections of his Manhattan district. He has allowed this property and neighborhood go under. I don’t believe his excuses about meeting with the mayor and roadblocks in his way regarding NYPD. He doesn’t know or want to get things done. You would think that lack of heat in a property that is part of his district would have been a priority. Calling his office did nothing. A public health issue. He also made no attempt to rid us of the horrendous noise pollution on the oval. As bad as Garodnick. Neither serviced us well. They destroyed us.

It is beyond illegal. It is very, very, very dangerous. And worsening.

They, meaning Blackstone Group employees and officers, including people closer to us here than we might suspect, are criminals beyond anything we might imagine. They come in that much-loved diversity these days of kinds and types of people. They run the gamut in so many ways.

Yet, above a certain pay grade, and some fewer who are truly underpaid peons, they are dangerous in ways and possibly for reasons most residents (true residents) would not suspect. And it is worsening.

Just as so many people's thinking and reasoning and behavior all over the world is worsening.

To mask or not to mask. That is the question. If you are in danger of Covid and variants, you should protect yourself. If you are not in danger, well... And there are mandates from the city, state or/and federal governments. So, just take care of yourself as best you can. Read the reports, filter them, etc....

It is particularly prudent now to wear a mask in the elevator and laundry room. The low life bros here do not and who knows where they came from or whether they are vaccinated. There were three unmasked in my elevator yesterday. Especially given the transient population here, it is a good idea. On another note, the 14th St bus shelters are now permanent homeless shelters. Wonderful sight in the morning when you are waiting for a bus. No reason police cannot remove them. Bus shelters are for commuters.

How about taking care of others, people who are not you??? This refers to wearing masks.

If mask-wearing is harmful to you, physically, and not because, "it doesn't feel good; I don't like it; I'm hot; it's uncomfortable; it hurts my ears," and so forth:

well, I have had all of these and more as reasons not to wear them.

None of them are justifiable when I could not only be jeopardizing myself, but more importantly - other lives.

It is a very sad and distressing commentary on the human species that so many of us these days are convinced that the Holy Trinity of Me, Myself and I has any more worth, significance, importance than any other human being.

I don’t think that it was officially changed but most people including myself would get in with people we knew and occasionally a masked person. That was as there was a lull in the pandemic. That particular day I had been waiting forever for an elevator ( the elevator traffic has jumped since the bros have been moving in). It was foolish of me and definitely not what I usually do. The one household in the elevator rule has not been followed much as late, but now as the cases increase it should be.

STR, there are no rules (except you pay your rent, preferably on time). Everything else is a crap shoot. The emphasis is on crap. We, who are mature, educated, hard-working adults who chose to live here for the location and the beautiful grounds and large apartments (which don't come cheap) are discovering that we now live in an unsupervised, shitty dorm. Anything goes. OK in a real dorm, but in a housing complex built for families and responsible adults: no, it is not OK. Never will be OK. We are sick of paying big bucks rent to live in a shitty, unsupervised dorm. This once-nice complex has become vile. The "General Manager" is a total moron who should go back to the crappy hotel/resort business. But then, what does Blackstone have to offer in the way of personnel? Nobody competent, it would seem.
Maybe I'm being hard on the GM. Maybe he is out of his depth, but that is not our fault. Damn the TA and idiot politicians who got us into this mess. Quality of life goes down like a heavy guy in quicksand.

My advice to all tenants whether who have the "where-with-it-all" to get out of this student ghetto: get out while you can. Never mind their threats. Go to the Department of Consumer Affairs and every other similar agency in the City and tell them about what a totally fraudulent shithole this place is. Don't pay them one red cent over and above your last month's rent. IF THEY TRY TO HARASS YOU, CALL EVERY MEDIA COMPANY in the Northeast and Westward! Blackstone has a well-deserved reputation for being the worst "landlord" on the planet. Don't be intimidated by these fascist assholes. Stick to your guns and create as much press and media coverage as you can get.

Years ago I worked at a law firm that represented Blackstone and they even managed to make hardened, hard-nosed litigators blanche and puke. If that doesn't work, get nasty and loud and intimidating with your words. Keep away physically, but let him know this shit don't fly.

Then, go back upstairs and before you send out your laundry, call Security and try to make sure they get to that idiot and read him the riot act. Be polite to them, but be firm. Explain the importance of keeping us all safe and therefore stopping this behavior.

Before the arguments start here: yes, I do this kind of thing myself.

Those Who Harm Us said...

Yes, the GM is out of his depth. The story is much more complicated and sickening than that. And, candidly, more chilling than that.

One overriding theme is simple: Blackstone Group does this routinely and deliberately. And they instruct these employees to do the worst things to us in order to harass us out and/or to knowingly, deliberately and repeatedly hurt us.

And they turn loose their "legal" "teams" with instructions to order the "management" types to hurt us as much as possible using legal language. And to threaten us with legal language should we protest.

As others have written, Blackstone is known all over the world as the most predatory and destructive landlord, and as the main reason the Amazon burnt down to the extent that it did.

All people working in "management" seem to me to be under direct orders by those who call the shots at Blackstone.

I've good reason to believe now that Rick Hayduk did not come up with the "Welcome Home" bullshit on the apartment doors, and the trashing of the directories on his own. I suspected it then and I've more reason to be certain that someone "above" him ordered him to take these vile, illegal, disingenuous and injurious actions.

Dreading spending another winter here. Little-to-no heat last winter. For what we pay here, you would think they would provide a little more than the legally-mandated minimum. Lease isn't up until April, but hope to be out before then. We don't appreciate those ridiculous concerts because we live close to the Oval and the last two summers have been vile because of that outdoor shit and all the noise from the Cafe (which I've heard is not recommended!), but at least in the summer we can put on the air conditioning and be cool and the a/c drowns out some of the horrible amateur hour shit on the Oval. Winter is the real problem. Absolutely dreading it. They should invest in a heating system that actually works, but they don't like to spend money on anything that will benefit tenants.

That "Welcome Home" bullshit on apartment doors is, indeed, BULLSHIT! It is very "hotel," for want of a better way of putting it. Hayduk (and his successors) have absolutely no idea as to how to run a residential apartment complex. They are totally hotel folk. I've never seen such nonsense in any other apartment building (and I've been in a lot of them) in New York City or anywhere else. Let's face it, this is more of a residential hotel/SRO/Dorm at this point than it is a residential housing complex. Many apartments are chopped up so that a "roommate" has a glorified cubicle, rather than a bedroom. The place has totally gone down the sewer and that is what owners like Blackstone and Tishman Speyer do to properties they buy.

This is an issue that our politicians, yes you Keith Powers, never dealt with. They have been informed over and over but it still exists. I (an Oval resident) hate the concerts, hate the students takeover, hate the mattresses strewn outside and hate the general filth of the property. But inadequate heat is the ultimate evil. Residents have called the Health Department and reported this but they still get away with it.

PS is useless. I wonder if the parents of all these very young and immature students know that there is just about NO SECURITY here? I wouldn't want my kid to be dorming here. No supervision in the dorm and no "Public Safety" to speak of on the property. Management does a lousy job of running this place. If this is an example of the "level of excellence" of a Blackstone-owned resort (where they get these losers from) they are certainly not going to encourage business from anybody here.

Incessant "music" played throughout the day at the eColi Five Turd Cafe.
Incredibly annoying to residents of 5 Stuy Oval building.
Quality of food is mediocre at best, wildly overpriced, sanitary questionable.
Bon appetit!

STR, the people who Blackstone hires to run this property are people who absolutely do not have a clue as to how to run a residential property. They are hotel hacks. Maybe they didn't do the job too well in the hotel/resort industry, so they were shifted to the residential side of Blackstone's business. They are totally out of their depth. Hayduk didn't have a clue, but he had an "out" inasmuch as he was opening some gig of his own down in the Carolinas. The last guy was man enough to admit that it was all beyond his knowledge and experience and he did himself and us a favor and gracefully bowed out. The current guy is as useless as Hayduk. He needs to quit and go back to doing what he knows how to do.

Until Blackstone/Beam (whatever) face the fact that they are totally fucking up their investment by treating it as a dorm/resort/longstay hotel, we see failure after failure go through the Manager position (and it won't be their fault). This place was never built to be a short-stay/dorm/transient property and until these braindead morons finally realize that, it will continue to be the nasty, dirty, dangerous shithole that it is. There are plenty of decent places to live in NYC that are superior to PCVST and are affordable to those of us who work and are not minimum wage. This used to be a place where people moved in, had babies and raised them here because it was safe, clean and affordable and had grounds that were unheard of in NYC. What is it now? A slum. Dirty, noisy, overpriced slum.

My son posts little stickers on light poses and in subway cars warning people to avoid this place. I don't like him doing this, but he's an adult and I can't stop him. But he is doing a public service.

Blackstone is totally ruining the quality of life for residents here, but not it’s investment. Although during the lockdown year there were empty apartments, I guarantee they are filling up now that students are back. Add that to the transient Airbnb business here and hefty city subsidies, their investments are fine.

Stay Away from Stuy Town!
How sad!
My "informant" in the business office informs me that management is renting 4,5,6 apartments in each building, at EXHORBITANT rents, to NYC to house the homeless.
This is supposed to be super on the down low.
Think the Lucerne Hotel.
Anything for a buck!

Can't wait for the concerts!
Nothing like blaring music and throngs of non-residents, garbage on the Oval, general chaos and mayhem to enhance our "Oasis on the Oval."

There are some really self-righteous, holier-than-though people posting on the Tenants Facebook. They question other posters' reasons for asking a question or making a statement and ask them to reword what they said because it offends their delicate sensitivities, even when the person they are chiding has said nothing offensive. God forbid anybody complains about the vagrants who are currently littering 14th Street with their carcasses and dreck! These prigs correct people as if they are talking down to a naughty child. Nobody has the right to ask/tell somebody to reword their post unless they are using foul or obscene language.

@9:31 AM August 8: Are you really SURE that they are renting to the homeless at taxpayers expense? I don't mind people who have lost their homes because of job losses and inability to pay rent. That could happen to a lot of us. What I DO mind is if these are people with mental illness issues or substance abuse issues. Or people who have been released from jail. I am not happy about the idea of paying what I do pay to have neighbors who might endanger my family, especially my children. Some people become homeless because of severe reversal of fortune and some (most) become homeless because of severe mental or behavioral problems.

I'm sure that Blackstone would rent to pedophiles, addicts and any piece of shit that came down the pike so long as somebody was paying them. Remember that Blackstone's principals are totally without morals and decency and money is the only thing in the world that matters to them. They would have happily rented to Jeffrey Epstein, were he still alive and "in business." There is no such things as right and wrong when it comes to Blackstone's way of thinking because all that goes though their subhuman minds is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

This doesn’t surprise me. I know they have been subsidizing apartments for a few years now.

On the TA site, they have removed many comments derogatory of Keith Powers doing nothing about the vendor filth situation on 14th St. Of course he is deep in with the TA.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Seems that way. Also: on the other Facebook site, there are long (and I mean LONG) comments in a thread about dogs, public shaming, etc. It's quite funny actually. Over at my ST Facebook, the nonsense of not obeying rules doesn't work.... I also love the comments about calling Public Safety. Yeah, PS will respond. Mostly with BS for the residents, who then think that PS is doing a great job. Take a look around if you think that!

As has been said before, that side of 14th street belongs to Rivera, so Powers isn’t obligated to do anything over there. His mistake was putting together a photo opp to insert himself in something that was out of his control. All politicians are good at that - insert themselves into something that will make them look good temporarily, but then remove themselves from the equation when things get messy and use the excuse that it is out of their control.

Anonymous said...

The TA Facebook seems to never be updated. Stuff from years ago is always at the top of the thread.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It's updated, just someone commented on an old post, so that gets moved atop.

Anonymous said...

In addition, there are no more postings critical of management anymore. TA and management in bed together. We knew that all along. On another note, 14th St between First and A chock full of vendors today at 4:00PM.

Is there anybody on this blog who can recommend a good laundry service that picks up and delivers? Please don't refer me to any facebook places because I don't have facebook and never will.
I am an original tenant, though not totally in my dotage, and I have never had to deal with such vile and unmaintained laundry rooms before now. Even Tishman Speyer provided better machines. The thing is, several of the washers in my building (which is shared with another building) are out of order. They have been out of order since the beginning of the year! The few machines that are not out of order are always stuffed with stinking laundry that people put in and then go away for long weekends and forget about. I know I could take it out, but the stench is so bad that I don't want to use those machines. They smell like old tennis sneakers and dirty underwear that has fermented for a long time. The few machines that do actually work are always monopolized by people who have several loads (one after the other) and who I suspect are running a little business doing other people's laundry.
I want to not have to use the laundry rooms EVER again! Whatever it costs, I will send my laundry out to a good wash/dry provider in the nabe.

I never thought I would live to see this once-lovely residential complex deteriorate into the filthy, badly-run dorm/hotel/motel/shithole that it is now. I live in an unrenovated apartment which I am NOT going to give up. The reason I won't give it up (even if I move) is because I so thoroughly resent and hate the avaricious filth that has destroyed this once-lovely place. Anything to thwart them is ok by me.

Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

I saw a PS officer trying to rouse a woman who’s passed out cold on First Avenue . Where have all these people suddenly come from? The filthy, disgusting “crustiest” are an annual recurrence.
I see idiots giving them money and shake my head.

Anonymous said...

That PS officer should have brought the woman to the Management office for coffee and cake. Then, they could have offered her an apartment here.

The neighborhood gets worse by the week. I can’t stand the homeless living in bus shelters. Walking home from the subway is terrible. You encounter mentally ill screaming, vendors all over the sidewalk and garbage. Inside a lot of new resident look like they need a good bath. I saw one lying all over s bench one day.

They will never get respectable, financially stable individuals and families to rent here unless they some really drastic action to clean up the place. Most of the decent tenants who paid high rents moved out at the beginning of the pandemic. I believe the proposed power plants, the dog shit and low quality of life also played a role, but the property has deteriorated very, very much over the last two years. Very soon, the only people living here (apart from the elderly who cannot afford to move out of their unrenovated apartments) will be students, City-subsidized and transients. The AirBnB trade thrives here. Why not use your apartment to make money as an AirBnB "host" and, at the same time, live off the property in a decent place? I think a lot of people are doing just that. I see a turnover on my floor and there are no moves in and moves out. Just rolling luggage and different faces waiting for and entering and exiting the elevators.
We have NO safety and protection here. Management doesn't actually "manage." They just collect rents and encourage crime and filth with their shitty "events" which attract more people from outside than those who actually live here. ST has also become something of a public dog park.

According to Blackstone and the national Pet Constituency/Industry, dogs make everyone (including non-owners) smile. Therefore, they are a community asset. Bullshit. Or rather, dog shit.

The area on 14th St gets worse by the day. Tonight there was a homeless guy lying in the gutter, squatters opposite Target, about eight of them with dogs. The vendors were crowded along the street. It is really a disgrace. Where are the politicians? This a dangerous situation. I have never seen it this bad.

Of course, the "crusties" have taken over the corner of 14th and Ave A. And large dogs from the crusties are being walked in Stuy Town. No one is stopping them, including other non-ST dogs. Good job, Blackstone and Public Safety!

I'm happy to say that I never have to run my air conditioners because of the beautiful trees that are right outside my window. So trees save Blackstone money on electric. Unfortunately, I do have to put on space heaters at times during the winter. If the trees were leafy in winter, I wouldn't need heat. Can't have it all ways, I guess!

I no longer shop at Target and Trader Joe because of all the filth (human and the debris) that clutter the street. Instead, I jump on the 14D (near Avenue B) and go over to C-Town. It's a nice little supermarket, very similar to what Associated was, only cleaner, and the people who work there are so very friendly and pleasant. The 14D has door-to-door service as I get on it just across from my building and get off it right in front of my building. I hope that grocery store doesn't close down. I was going to Food Emporium before, but I like C-Town better.

"And large dogs from the crusties are being walked in Stuy Town. No one is stopping them, including other non-ST dogs. Good job, Blackstone and Public Safety!"

PS is only for show. Hayduk, himself, told me they are not supposed to apprehend anybody who is breaking the PUBLIC SAFETY rules. The reason being they don't want any blow-back from those people. Btw, that jerk knew what he was doing when he destroyed the [legally mandated] directories and discontinued name plates on doors. He knew the property was going to be "functioning" as a hotel/motel/dorm/AirBnB. He didn't tell me THAT, but he knew.

Wednesday evenings: I have talked, in person, with Powers. His office many, many, many times one summer. Epstein's office and Epstein himself. He became quite nasty when challenged.

I have done a great deal more than that regarding noise, and regarding heat. In retaliation, I have been threatened.

It was not the first time Blackstone saw fit to threaten me. After the first couple of threats, an employee of theirs saw fit to tell me that threats are not uncommon, and that plenty of residents (real residents) complain more often and more loudly than do I. And they've been threatened.

And worse. No, not violently assaulted as we define it. Or "disappeared." But hurt, just the same, as many of us are hurt by virtue of so many of their actions and inactions.

NYU: The only positive I have to hold out right now regarding the non-English idiocy of the latest "management" announcement of a massive move-in:

Someone commented to me that at least the NYU students are most likely vaccinated. (That's "fully vaccinated," which is better than nothing or one vaccination, although, again: the pandemic is increasing and worsening for those who think it's all OK. No, it is dangerous as hell now and increasing in danger, exponentially.)

I'd looked up NYU and its policies. If anyone is interested, they proclaim their three major campuses are: New York, Shanghai and Abu Dhabi. I've lots to say about it, including Blackstone-related remarks, but not here and not now.

NYU claims that all of its people: students, staff, teachers, must show proof of vaccination or be barred from all of the buildings on campus. It then follows that, barring anyone who has slipped through the cracks, the braying, shrieking, vomiting NYU students here have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Which might help keep down the virus' resurgence here, although they go about in herds and packs, and bring in who knows what and who. And that can bring in the Grim Reaper. Which Blackstone undoubtedly likes since they practice their own form of euthanasia, as did Tishman Speyer before them.

A community organization nearby asked me some time back to bring back 2 or 3 other residents to discuss protecting ourselves against the blackstone plague and I got no takers. Maybe after the virus finally leaves us in a year or two or three . . .

Anonymous said...

commenter at 3:36 PM. You say that Blackstone has threatened you, but don't say how. Please tell us what they have threatened you with. Have they threatened to evict you? put a herd of NYU assholes in an adjacent apartment? make you disappear?

Please give us some example of what they have threatened. Your claim would be more credible if you gave us some idea of how they have threatened you.

"He became quite nasty when challenged."

Who? Powers or Epstein?

Anonymous said...

They can get nasty all they want. They have been totally neglectful of this neighborhood. We have to walk through horrendous conditions across the street. Vote them out ! Please!

I can’t believe that management is having a “pool Pawty” for dogs. Sick and repulsive. Catering to dogs while residents are treated like crap. It gets worse and worse.

Please Sir, I Want Some More said...

It was Epstein on the phone who became appallingly nasty, sneering, superior. It was a couple of years ago.

I do not know if Tishman Speyer threatened people with anything other than eviction, courtesy of the infamous Fred Knapp, Esq., who should have known better before he began searching all kinds of records for "proof" that people were renting here illegally. He was quite successful years back in terrorizing people and getting them to shell out money for lawyers to protect them against eviction. I do not know if the stories were true that some residents killed themselves as a result of his eviction threats. Some residents did move out, I was told.

Fred later was an effective and disturbing booster of the hell his successor boss, Blackstone, caused and causes here. Fred retired and we've another chief legal counsel. The attorneys I've dealt with here are an absolute delight. Sarcasm intended.

Blackstone may or may not have been the first to start issuing "Cease and Desist" Orders to residents who repeatedly and bitterly complained about living conditions. Basically, "if you don't shut your mouth and stop bothering us about how we are tormenting and torturing you," (my inelegant phrasing), "our next step is to seek assistance in Housing Court." Now, what do you imagine that might mean???

It may or may not have contained acceptable standard English despite being a "legal" letter, and it very may well have been brimming with wild exaggerations, lies and outright fabrications. I don't know why.

When that charming communication was cobbled together, it included the admonition that you were simply not permitted to call anyone here (resident services, management, public safety, etc. except for what they considered to be a true EMERGENCY). They instead assigned you ONE particular person whom you could call with your troubles (which you were lying about, anyway according to them).

That person might or not be reachable at any given time.

They were not kidding, because public safety simply refused to communicate with you once you were on the no fly list, and they would say so if you called (unless, I guess, you were deemed to have a real "emergency).

This happened to me under Blackstone's paternal watch, and I was surprised to hear, as I wrote previously that this was (maybe still is, I don't know) SOP - standard operating procedure for anyone who was too demanding in their esteemed opinion.

Someone posted a bit back about the absurdity of their heating "protocols" - the thermometers and so on. And other unique methods of dealing with residents living in their homes. Again - read up on Blackstone, on their individual personnel.

I did read, years back, that people in New York City; people in Spain; and an exceptionally successful woman in Florida, I think, have defended themselves against this monstrous entity. The Amazon Rainforest, however, did not fare well against these soul-dead predators, and, again, the United Nations cited them as among the greatest reasons for homelessness and suffering in one's own home around this poor planet.

Finally - there have been residents and former residents who have extracted from this abomination some degree of satisfaction in monetary recompense, no matter how slight. Real estate, bound up as it is with the legal "profession," though, intimidates people into shutting their mouths and refusing to share details of how much, in what manner, etc. So people who manage some scant victory over their beloved and peerless, benevolent landlord, ain't gonna share their experiences or advice with you.

We live in a wonderfully caring, compassionate, selfless world, don't we?

Anonymous said...

I believe it is Blackrock (TS partners in crime), not Blackstone who are raping the Amazon.
Maybe both. Not much difference between the two.
