There is no general manager here in Stuy Town/Peter Cooper Village. The position has been divided up. No wonder. These are photos I took the other day. The first few are the passages from one side of Stuy Town to the other. They are all on the 20th Street loop. These should be smooth for people with disabilities using walkers, canes, etc. I myself need a walker, and I've talked to people with those issues. These people find it harder to walk with the gouges, potholes and just sloppy work. Even people with shopping carts and baby strollers may have a problem. The last photo is from something that I was surprised to see: A "good neighbors" sign that addresses residents like children. Do we really need to be told what to do when we are sitting on a bench? (The sign is now gone, either from Beam or a resident.)
More 8/6: The new sign shown in the photos may be gone (temporarily), but other Beam Living "sit here and say hello to a neighbor" signs are appearing all over Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. Thank you, Beam and a certain resident, for telling us what we should do. We need instructions because we are stupid and don't know what a bench is for. Some of us may think that a bench can also be used for peace and quiet and a rest, but these are troublemakers. Ha, ha! As we know a bench "is built for conversation." Beam says so!
More 8/12: STR gets a letter from Stuy Town!.... I showed the road work that was done, some of which you will see in the photos I took. It was not at "Oval Office," but at the crosswalk there. I used the word "bullshit," talking about this work and how pathetic it is and the explanations given. Bullshit is not a word one hears in pleasant genteel company, but is used a lot in New York and elsewhere. Even Presidents of the United States have used that word! Please get people in charge who are New Yorkers or speak the lingo.

You should take photos on the 'M' side between 626 and 628 East 20th. There are huge cracks in the asphalt due to tree roots coming up. It's been this way for several years. Management knows about it but they obviously don't care. I feel bad for the elderly and those with walking/balance issues. I guess it's going to take a lawsuit from a resident who trips and falls due to these broken pavement areas. Absolutely incompetent and uncaring management.
Blackstone caters to dogs (including outside ones), not seniors.
This "management" are just a bunch of incompetents and are probably typical of the calibre of employees Blackstone recruits.
If they would focus on improving the important safety and quality of life issues and focus less on those execrable "events," they would be putting what little brain power they possess to good use.
"If they would focus on improving the important safety and quality of life issues and focus less on those execrable "events," they would be putting what little brain power they possess to good use."
Also be putting the rents they collect to good use. They would probably attract a better type of tenant if they improved the quality of life and tenant safety here instead of wasting money on crap concerts, etc. Having said that, they probably don't spend much money on the "events." If they got rid of the Vasquez idiot they would save money on what it is they pay him. I wonder why they don't see this as a residential property? They seem hellbent on turning it into some kind of resort or "fun place to live" and they don't realize that (most) people don't want their landlord to lay on entertainment for them. They just want clean, SAFE and well-maintained living conditions. This dopey bunch of morons seem to care very little about the quality of life and the safety factor. We have a very amateurish "Public Safety" department and little effort or money is put into making the buildings safe. One example: the laundry rooms are "encapsulated" between recycling area, lockers area and bike rooms. There are no security cameras in the areas mentioned above and definitely none in the laundry rooms themselves. To make it worse, these avaricious, money-gouging parasites have removed the locks from many of the laundry room doors and are too blood-sucking cheap to replace them. May the all rot in hell. Soon!
The events are simply an attempt to show that there are “amenities “. When you charge such high rents in an old housing project, you have to present a smoke screen facade to justify the rents. Since Stuyvesant Town really has no actual amenities, they offer the events to pose as amenities. Of course most of us see the scam. Throwing in these cheap concerts, movies, etc does not justify the rents here. They really don’t care as they rent mostly to students and transients now. This place gets seedier and seedier. Our hall carpet is filthy. Although it gets vacuumed, it is stained. I am ashamed to have friends visit me here.
The employees at Beam living are useless. All of them.
There is a lawsuit being put together to stop the TEMPORARY dog run being planned for Playground 1 in ST. Keep your eyes open for news if interested in joining in.
I agree wholeheartedly with July 26 at 6:58 AM. The entire place is a filthy, dangerous quasi-slum. Where is the TA when it comes to the very low standard of living here? All in bed with "Management" is where they are. I wish this vile "Management" and the phony TA would just go away.
I am really embarrassed to invite friends to visit because I hate the pitying looks I get from them. The TA and "Management" have turned this once-enviable place to live into a dirty, nasty, dangerous slum. Several years ago I moved into a lovely, well-run housing complex, but now I am ashamed to say I live in Stuyvesant Town. It has gone down the sewer and is nothing more than an overpriced dirty, nasty project that makes the worst of NYCHA look good. Anybody who pays "market" rent to live here is an idiot. As P.T. Barnum used to say: "there is a sucker born every minute."
Has anybody had that lead paint inspection yet? If so, did it really take two hours to do it? I think it is a very annoying intrusion, especially as they want to go into closets! I'm sure there must be some lead paint because the buildings are so old, so why can't they just assume that there is and test and remedy apartments as they become vacant. They say that the City mandates these inspections, but the City mandates a lot of things that "Management" totally ignore. We get inadequate heat during the cold months; we have horribly noisy events on the Oval scrub (it's not even a lawn anymore); we have apartments filled with several unrelated persons (a violation of City Law) and there are commercial businesses on the property in contravention of City Law. There are numerous violations of the Fire Safety laws. I wonder why they are complying with this particular law? Going into closets is intrusive and a form of harassment. Do these "inspectors" have to stay for two hours to wait for the results of the instruments? I don't want some stranger in my apartment for two hours!
They cannot attract a decent demographic group here, because of the high rents. Who would pay 4,000 and up for rents in an old housing project with no doorman, no pool, old plumbing and erratic heat in winter. They are happy with the student/transient demographic they are getting now. It is obviously profitable. Who in their right mind would pay such high rents on a long term basis. I believe that they have deals with foreign agencies for short term rentals. Many people in my building speaking French , Hebrew and other languages. I see them once or twice and then they are gone.
My past inspections were very quick. In and out basically.
"My past inspections were very quick. In and out basically."
I'm not referring to the annual inspection, STR. I'm referring to the lead paint inspection. They send some contractor in and he goes all over the apartment, including inside of closets, using some machine. It takes approximately two hours. Of course, if you read your lease you will see that the LL has always said there is no lead paint in the apartments. Flaming LIARS!

I wonder if they have the appropriate permits to conduct such transient/hotel/hostel/dorm business? Of course, our politicians are paid to look the other way and the so-called TA doesn't give a shit.
OMG! I really miss the days pre-sale to TS and the take-over of various vermin when TS just skirted bankruptcy.
What happened to this place? I really don't understand it beyond the knowledge that it was a tug-o-war between various soulless, godless ghouls who though (mistakenly) that they could evict all of the RS tenants and turn it into a "Luxury" complex. Where these people sober and off drugs at the time? Did they think that the tenancy were extremely mentally disabled or, maybe, just really dumb?
The heinous ghouls, Tishman Speyer and Met Life's Robert Benmosche (thankfully deceased) thought it would be a doddle to turf out the tenants and get new "Market Rate" tenants to rent in a faux-luxury project. Did they ever get it wrong.
Blackstone is just another Benmosche-type of outfit. All greed, no talent, no morals, no heart and ZERO business savvy.
Keep at us, you BASTARDS, because we will outlast and outdo you.
Undiluted Hatred is a very good match for undiluted greed. Keep that in mind.
Piles of dog shit in stairwells, urine in the elevators, a total decline in property maintenance.
But rejoice! We have the Oval "events" every Wednesday to destroy whatever peace and quiet we deserve.
What a dump this place has become.
So sad!
Just an overpriced project.
NYC banned the use of lead paint in 1960 and the Feds banned it in the late 1970s.
All of Stuytown and PCV have lead paint on the walls but they've been covered by non-lead paint in subsequent paintings.
It's generally not an issue unless you see a lot of paint peeling/chipping off the walls. Sanding the walls will release the lead particles into the air which is dangerous.
For most people it's a non-issue as long as they regularly paint their walls which by law would be painted with non-lead based paint.
To hire a contractor to check if there is any lead paint on the walls is absurd. I can tell you there absolutely is unless there was a complete remediation of the paint on the walls during an apartment renovation.
I wouldn't trust anything this management says/does. The so called lead paint inspectors might be a ruse to check on something else in the apartment. I wouldn't put anything past this so called management crew.
Just look at who is managing it. This totally typical Blackstone. Acquire and Destroy. The shitty events on what used to be a beautiful tree park are supposed to distract us from the destruction and slumification of our homes.
NYC very busy with lead paint, mold, and window-guard inspections. Meanwhile, everything else has gone to hell, while Adams parties on....
Not everything. Our 14th St stolen goods market has been cleaned up.
I like Mayor Adams. I couldn't stand DeB, Bloomberg and Ghouliani. I think Mayor Adams is a thoroughly decent person and a good Mayor.
But what's with Vegan Pizza?
Mayor Adams isn't different from most other pols; he's corrupt.
He talks a good game but hasn't delivered much to the people of NYC.
https://nypost.com/2022/10/08/chancellor-banks-and-mayor-adams-hire-each-others-beaus/
If you try to question Adams he plays the race card.
With any luck he'll be a one-term Mayor. The problem is I don't see any good candidates on the horizon.
I stand corrected. They were out there today but not in such large numbers. They need to be consistent in cleaning up that street. At least there has been some attempt.
Movie played in the oval last night until after 9. Wasn’t as loud as the concerts but loud enough to be annoying. They have nerve and the politicians look the other way.
Saw another "Sit here and talk to your neighbor" sign by a playground. Who thinks up these childish things? What individual is responsible? The actual person, not the general Beam Living? I'd love to talk to this person. And don't tell me it's a resident. Somebody in Beam had to approve it. Who?
That 10:52 AM post from Aug. 1 had to be retracted yesterday. I knew it was too good to be true....
Never fear, STR, the "actual person" you'd inquired about yesterday will undoubtedly get a fat Christmas Bonus from Beam for their wonderful 'innovation'.
I saw one too near Playground 12. Totally dumb and tacky.
I’d be afraid to sit on a bench now in case someone thought I was soliciting company. Where do they get these lame-brained ideas?
I believe it was a resident. I like to be left in peace if I sit outside.
That’s why I go out and sit outside. Gets me a break from my kids!
When I go out to sit on a bench, I hope that nobody will come and sit by me and try to strike up a conversation. I don't sit near the playgrounds too often, but sometimes I like to sit near the fountain and read a book and just enjoy the outdoors. In PEACE and QUIET!
Is cigarette smoking allowed anywhere on the grounds of Stuyvesant Town? I know that plenty of weed is smoked indoors!
Yes, I think so. If you are so many feet away from a building.
I wish they’d stop trying to run our lives and focus on running the property in a competent manner. We don’t need their “lifestyle “ ideas. We just want to live in a clean, quiet and safe residential complex without their intrusive and tacky gimmicks.
This asshole-laden City Council seems to hate pedestrians. Now they want to keep outdoor dining in place, even though it means pedestrians often have to walk in the street to get by them. The extension of Hane causes a blind spot for pedestrians crossing First Avenue at that corner and there are many more similar sheds causing the same problem.
Now we have Summer Streets that give cyclists free range. I can't keep track of the number of times I've been almost hit by a f**king bicycle that blew through the lights or was riding against the traffic direction or on the sidewalk. It seems to be Open Season on pedestrians. I think that bicycles cause more harm to pedestrians than cars. The other day I walked around the Oval and was pissed off at all the bicycles that were zooming around (many of them Citibikes) and, of course, not a Public Safety office or vehicle in sight. I don't think PS leaves their office unless they are coming or going to work. They certainly do not patrol and do anything about PUBLIC SAFETY!
I've seen so many violations of the law in and out of Stuy Town, that a part of me just shrugs shoulders. Maybe that's the purposeful effect. Stuy Town is terrible about enforcing or even mentioning the rules. Unless a person is being robbed and they see this, PS doesn't care. You can do what you like. Bikes, electric scooters, whatever.
I know the name of the person responsible for thinking up these "sit and talk" ads thanks to S. Kennedy's new missive. And, yes, it is a resident. However, Beam Living had to approve this and make the signs. There used to be a popular program called THE PRISONER. This ad reminds me so much of something in the "Village." What a dumb idea.
This latest stupid idea "Conversation Benches" is beyond ridiculous. I would be afraid of sitting on one of those benches in case somebody thought I was soliciting or desperately lonely. Sometimes, sitting on a bench on a nice day does result in striking up a conversation with a pleasant person and it's not hard to do. No need to advertise I'm a lonely poor soul, so please come and talk to me.
When it comes to inane and totally stupid ideas, this "Management" gets the Blue Ribbon and Gold Medal. LEAVE US ALONE AND CLEAN UP THIS DUMP!!!!!! That's your job, ASSHOLES!
STR, I remember The Prisoner, starring Patrick McGoohan! I was a kid then, but I loved it! This place also has a touch of "Children of The Corn" because they seem to despise older people and bring in all these loud, obnoxious students.
Our old Security Department could eat this "PS" crew's lunch. They were professionally trained and many had been members of the NYPD. That idiotic Hayduk told them to "stand down" when they saw infractions of the rules. He was a total moron, unfit to hold the job of General Manager of a place like this.
I have a better logo for the bench "signs:"
FU*K OFF AND LEAVE ME ALONE.
How about heat in the winter, get rid of the tacky Oval "events", try to keep the halls, stairwells and grounds clean, and enforce some basic neighborly rules.
I've started another blog, and if you have mobility issues or know of someone with them, take a look:
https://stuytownwalker.blogspot.com/
Unfortunately, despite your new blog and all the issues repeatedly raised on this one, Blackstone doesn't give a damn. Schwarzman and crew are Evil incarnate.
Yes, I am aware of that, but the new blog is not about Blackstone, per se. There are things that this property does for mobility (by law) and things which it doesn't do, like gravel. Both will be examined.
Neighborly Nelly, you echo my thoughts and feelings! LOL!
Btw, has anybody tried the new laundry machines? So far, I haven't. I send my laundry out (as do most of my neighbors), but I'm just wondering if the machines here are worth a try. TIA.
The old ones were constantly our of order and I just gave up eventually.
The minimal things it does for mobility by law are just window-dressing. What they feel can't get away with NOT doing. Meanwhile, other laws--in addition to their own rules--are not enforced, by either the City or themselves. The Transit Authority is both raising fares and trying to improve access for the disabled. I don't need a walker (yet), but like many others, am afraid to set foot in the subway now. Used to take it all the time, harking back to when the fare cost 15 cents, service was frequent, and the system largely free of litter & homeless. Also then, weren't riots in Union Square. People from ST used to shop in the big discount department stores located there (Klein's, Ohrbach's, May's). There were even decent, smaller establishments between Avenue B and First Avenue.
The Beatles, Murray the K, all on 14th Street. The Palladium, I believe.
The Russian Tea House, Bradley’s, and many other decent places to shop. Ohrbachs was on 34th Street, but maybe there was a branch down here.
I miss those old stores, including Korvettes, Lamsons, Woolies.
Now it’s all smoke shops and garbage.
I’m glad we have Target and TJ, but I would love a real supermarket and department store in the neighborhood.
We really need a good all purpose supermarket in this neighborhood. Trader Joe is not that great. Although people rave about it, some of their brands are not that good with limited selections and full of salt and sugar. Target is OK for paper goods, but it doesn’t replace an all purpose supermarket. I was one who gripes about Associated, but now I really miss it.
I miss Associated terribly. It was so convenient, especially as it stayed open til midnite. TJ and Target do not fill the void that was left by Associated. I suspect that Associated closed because the greedy bastards who own this place wanted to raise the rent to sky high. Now, we just have an ugly empty storefront. Nobody will shop there if it becomes a "high end" supermarket. Associated also helped make this seedy street more safe because it was open so late and it was brightly lit and had decent people coming and going. TJ and Target close at 9 pm and then the creepiest people prowl. 14th Street has gone back to being the fetid slum it was in the 70s and 80s. Thank you BLACKHOLE. Thank you and GO TO HELL.
That side of 14th street is indeed a "dead zone." There were several promo statements by Blackstone that something would be put there, like a cafe (high-end, of course) and connected at the back to Stuy Town, but nothing has so far come of it. So the area just sits there, empty. A few years now.
I think the TA got BS to rethink its idea of a high-end store with an outdoor cafe at the back. It would be not popular with residents because we don't need or want a high-end food store and having a cafe at the back would been more destruction of trees and it would right under people's windows and attract outsiders who would use the proposed high-end grocery store (like we need such a thing!) and cafe would be close to the dog relief place, etc., etc. We have the overpriced StuyCafe if we want to go and get food poisoned and view dog shit.
Why the hell can't they stop with the gimmicks and "resortifying" of this place and just focus on providing essentials, e.g., heat in winter, enough plumbers and handymen to be available when needed and a real incentive to attract decent renters. They have made such a mess of this place that it is the total opposite of what people want when they look for a place to rent. Who wants to live in an unsupervised dorm during school months? No wonder they always have so many apartments available. They haven't got a clue! The people running this place are from the hospitality industry and don't have a clue about running a housing complex.
I doubt they will ever put a decent grocery store in the Associated space because TJ is in direct competition, literally and figuratively. If Associated was still here I would NEVER step foot in TJ. I shop at C-Town more than TJ. TJ is not a real supermarket and Target is NOTHING!
They are making money here without new "decent renters." And they're waiting for the old ones to die off.
Target is handy for household items, paper goods, stationery items, and food staples. Since it is an express store it isn’t always well stocked. They can keep Trader Joe, overrated place. Have bought stale bread, horrible sweet cake, and vile tasting peanut butter there. Only good thing there is the fruit. Terrible that we don’t have a decent supermarket within a few blocks of 14th Street.
"They are making money here without new "decent renters." And they're waiting for the old ones to die off."
They'll wait a long time for some of us old ones to die off and even then many of us have kids with succession rights.
@3:04 PM: Most of what you say about TJ I agree with, but some of their stuff is ok and their fresh meat is really fresh.
The people who work there are the friendliest and pleasantest I've ever come across. I find that a good reason to go there for many things!
I agree that their staff is really nice. Also the prices are good. Just don’t like many of the brands. Prefer an all purpose supermarket.
I just cannot believe the bullshit that these cretins come up with. Just read the Community Update (paper version). They now have a Health and Wellness Manager!!!!! What is this place? Is it a residential housing property or some kind of care-home/resort? I notice in the brochure that they ask bicycle and scooter riders to ride and scoot with care and to please wear their helmets. How about they tell (not ask) bicycle and scooter riders to NOT RIDE ON THE DAMNED PROPERTY?????!!!!!
This "management" is the most sickening, toadying, inept and incapable bunch of losers I have ever encountered. They are ASKING those who would mow us down and maim us to PLEASE be careful and wear your helmet. How about they ask potential rapists to PLEASE wear a rubber so you don't get the clap or impregnate your target.
Beam Living, you make me want to vomit. Go the hell back to the backward hospitality gigs you came from. Please! We don't want you, like you, respect your or need you.
What real ("decent") residents want or need isn't a concern of Blackstone's. This applies both to supermarkets and...everything else. But if some crackpot purportedly proposes Good Neighbor signs on benches, that's right up their alley. Children of tenants may have wanted succession rights in past, but why would they now? Their parents would also leave now, if they could afford/manage it.
>>They now have a Health and Wellness Manager<<
I can only imagine this being a part of their gym! Money needed, of course.
WHO the hell comes up with the lame-brained ideas they push at us?
I would be embarrassed to put my name on the missives we get about the "amenities" and "events." Is this supposed to be an apartment complex in New York City or is it a home for the feeble-minded in the 'burbs?
Oh, btw, please wear your helmet when you are cycling, scooting, skateboarding and terrorizing pedestrians, especially the elderly, physically challenged and small children.
On second thoughts, there actually, really isn't much point in wearing your helmets because most of you scooter, bicycle and skate-boarding morons have nothing under the helmet that could possibly be harmed.
The stupidest one is the meeting neighbors benches. How lame can you get! Clean the oval up, get new rugs in the halls, stop the noise pollution and stop this renting to students because your rents are outrageous for an old project with no real amenities, give more heat in winter. Do all of the above instead of this crap nonsense. The oval looked like a pig sty on movie night. Mostly mothers with strollers. I will be so glad when summer is over and these events end.
Put names of residents on apartment directory by mailboxes AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
PUT NAMES ON APARTMENT DOORS.
Packages strewn all over floor by mailboxes.
This place is a DISGRACE.
@12:23 AM: I totally agree with everything you say. I have never found it hard to strike up a conversation with a stranger (shutting me up is the challenge), but maybe some people are very shy. Conversely, some people just want to be left alone and enjoy their own company so those benches will not be welcomed by everybody.
I wish this "management" would just get out of its "cruise-ship director" state of mind and accept that not everybody wants to be force-fed socialization!
I walked round the Oval the other day because I had found some keys and wanted to hand them in to PS. I was hoping that I would see a PS officer because it was such a hot day and I wasn't planning to go for a walk around the Oval. I could have handed the keys to an officer, had I seen one. I did not see one PS officer or one of their cruisers. What I did see was dozens of people riding Citibikes (and other bikes) at high speed around the Oval.
If "management" wants to improve the QOL here and have a pleasant atmosphere of "community," they should start enforcing the rules and make PS get out of their air-conditioned bunker and do a bit of patrolling.
So long as "management" turns a blind eye to all the dangerous infractions of the rules they can stick their "community" rah-rahing up their .... STR, wouldn't like me to finish that thought!
Blackstone/Beam Living will have a major lawsuit on its hands when somebody gets hurt by one of the bicycles that zoom around the property (especially around the Oval) because PS was told to stand down by that no-balls geek, Hayduk, who was afraid of being sued by one of the killer bicycles-riders. I remember being told by someone "in the know" that PS did stop a cyclist on the Oval and the cyclist had a lawyer contact Management. It may not have been a lawyer - could have been the cyclist himself! Anyway, it seems that scared the sh*t out of Hayduk and he told PS not to bother the cyclists who violate the rules.
Blackstone/Beam has lawyers and I would venture a guess that they are probably as benign as a pack of rabid rottweilers who haven't been fed in a while.
However, if Blackstone/Beam's "management" are such a bunch of total pussies, then it is no wonder that PS is not allowed to enforce the rules and laws. When (and it is when, not if) they are hit with major lawsuit for their negligence in protecting their renters/visitors from being killed or maimed by one of these losers who ride around the property, they will probably find that there isn't enough testosterone in the world to give them what they obviously haven't got.
The newly redone playground at Peter Cooper (like if the playground before was not good!) is a magnet for a lawsuit. It looks like a circus and has kids inside/outside on ropes that they grab and pull themselves up. Kids being kids, they will think nothing of it, but will the parents/nannies be watching all the time?
Many years ago, they was an altercation between a security guard and a dog walker. This was before Beam. The security guard was fired. The lesson is: A resident is primary.
>>Blackstone/Beam Living will have a major lawsuit on its hands when somebody gets hurt by one of the bicycles that zoom around the property (especially around the Oval)<<
Even if the lawsuit is successful, will we hear about it?
Yes.
It’s very easy to go online and check the dockets of the NY Unified Court System. You can do homework about lawsuits of all sorts. I’ve read eviction proceedings at Stytown as well as other lawsuits against it.
There was another suicide in my building recently. They keep these things as quiet as possible these days. We have to do are own homework.
What's the story behind your posted 'Objectionable Behavior' letter?
What's that notice about bad behavior at Oval Office? Who received that? Hope it wasn't you, STR! ;-)
If I ever want to sit on one of those benches, I will throw my jacket over the notice.
I'm shocked to see that somebody was abusive to Siobhan Kennedy because she is a really lovely lady. She is too nice to be working for Beam Living.
STR, I trust that the notice about minding your mouth when addressing Management personnel at Oval Office meetings was not sent to you!!!!!!!!!
I notice in the reprimand it says "...that is no excuse for not treating anyone in such a rude and disrespectful way." So what that actually says (unintentionally, I'm sure) is that IS an excuse ...."
They need to hire some literate people to write their stuff!
Anyone else catch this major faux pas?
"We have to do are own homework."
Oops! That should be OUR own homework.
Guess that qualifies me for writing Beam's missives!
>>Anyone else catch this major faux pas?<<
Double negative?
>>STR, I trust that the notice about minding your mouth when addressing Management personnel at Oval Office meetings was not sent to you!!!!!!!!!<<
Signed and sealed. One under the door, and one by mail.
Yes. I did. LOL
>>I'm shocked to see that somebody was abusive to Siobhan Kennedy because she is a really lovely lady. She is too nice to be working for Beam Living.<<
Yes, she is nice, but the work here can be lousy.
Wow! I am really surprised at you, STR!
What was it that got you so rattled?
Btw, were bicycles zooming around the Oval while the Oval Office was in session?
Concerning the final paragraph of Management's "reprimand," I wish they would send such a notice to the FUCKING ASSHOLES who zoom around the property (especially around the Oval) on their bicycles and scooters. All they tell those assholes is to remember to wear their helmuts. Wouldn't want any of them to come a cropper and splash their brains all over the pavement, would we? Well, maybe some of us would.
"Yes, she is nice, but the work here can be lousy."
The life here can be lousy too.
To explain some more. I knew I shouldn't go to the Oval Office and mention my one concern about that crosswalk. Kennedy took my question and wanted to see what the situation was. I went there with her, meanwhile passing by some dried residue of dog droppings, which I pointed out to her. Nothing from her on that. I showed her what the crosswalk problem is, but Kennedy could speak no ill wind of the work. I don't think she said anything, in fact. I was not attacking her, but the work and Beam's reasoning, whatever it is. As to the notice, it is laughable. There is so much wrong here (though some things are right) that making a case out of someone who is a veteran, a senior, needs a walker is, well, ridiculous. Frankly, more people, and even seniors, should be outraged by what goes on here and be vocal about it.
>>What was it that got you so rattled?<<
My walker was rattling every time I used the crosswalk.
STR, Kennedy is good at giving no answer or a "none" answer. She will never admit that anything is wrong with the dump. I also think she is a bit out of her depth here. What made you raise your voice and swear? Was it her passive aggressive demeanor or was it the shit and bad work? Or both?
Did somebody overhear you and get riled? I doubt it was Kennedy who wrote the "warning" to you, though she might have instigated it.
Now you are my Double Hero: Firstly for your brilliant and invaluable blog; secondly for getting riled and swearing at Ms. Passive Aggressive Puppet.
They talk such bullshit about their object being to have all residents enjoy the safe and peaceful yadda yadda of their apartments. They don't think of that when those vile "concerts" and second rate movies are blasting so loud on summer nights when people are trying to enjoy the safe and peaceful privacy of their apartments and/or getting their kids to bed at a reasonable hour. The name of the game here is bullshit.
They don't give a damn about the bicycles speeding around the Oval. I walked around the Oval a couple of times the other day and did not see even one "Public Safety" officer. Not on foot or in a vehicle. I did see plenty of Citibikes tearing around though.
"Frankly, more people, and even seniors, should be outraged by what goes on here and be vocal about it."
They want the seniors to die asap. A lot of their actions and inactions is designed to facilitate this.
I know somebody who has sued this dump more than once for the shoddy work that has caused her to fall. They had to pay up too.
I know that "management" sneers at those of us who have called this place home for all or most of lives. They sneer at us when we say, with absolute honesty, that it used to be cleaner, safer, pleasanter and we had a real Manager and skilled and honest maintenance staff and the grounds were absolutely beautiful because we had really great gardeners and groundsman. True, we didn't have air conditioning until sometime in the early nineties, but we had plentiful heat in winter and the beautiful trees helped keep us cool and breathing clean air (and pollen!) in summer.
We also had a competent, well-trained Security Department who patrolled on foot and in cars. They were well-trained and many of them were former NYPD officers. Now we have mall cops who do NOTHING except maybe let people in if they lock themselves out.
Mustn't forget that the rent was nowhere near what they charge new tenants now! I just cannot understand why people pay high rent to live here. They could do so much better elsewhere.
MetLife got the award for Best Landlord in New York City over and over again. Then along came BenMoishe, Tishman Speyer, CWC and finally the Devil itself. Satanic, money-worshipping Filth. To add insult to injury, we see every day that they don't hire the best and the brightest.
You should have taken Kennedy to the back of 626 and 628 East 20th where we've had tree roots coming up for years with significant cracked asphalt. Their letter to you is a joke. They're just trying to scare you. Ask them if they know about The First Amendment and Freedom of Speech?
>>STR, Kennedy is good at giving no answer or a "none" answer. She will never admit that anything is wrong with the dump. I also think she is a bit out of her depth here. What made you raise your voice and swear? Was it her passive aggressive demeanor or was it the shit and bad work? Or both?
Did somebody overhear you and get riled? I doubt it was Kennedy who wrote the "warning" to you, though she might have instigated it.<<
Kennedy did not write or send that warning. Though someone at Beam did (the name I did not advertise), it seems a form letter in part, except for "the incident." I knew I was primed before I spoke. The former manager, Hayduk, would have handled it better. Looking at the crosswalk work, he would have said: "Oh, I see what you mean." Or something like that, even if it was bs to him. But Kennedy could not be negative. Everyone at Beam is afraid of Beam. That's who writes their checks. But Beam doesn't write my check.
Good for you, STR! But one doesn't have to be disabled to get tortured by Blackstone....
My parents received a warning letter from Met Life because a visiting friend and I rode our bikes on one of the 'hills', which wasn't allowed back then. This must have been 60 years ago! Kennedy is NOT "nice." She's just another flunky for Schwarzman, and is in a position over her head. Position whose responsibilities aren't even clearly delineated (intentionally)....
Hayduk would read negative comments on the TA site and arrange a “meeting” at oval cafe. This happened to me. He just listened and wrote things down. I complained mostly about the oval concerts. He said something about headphones being used. Of course nothing was ever done. He was polite yet disinterested. That was the way he operated.
Blackstone always lived up to its reputation as the the scum of the earth.
Damn the crooked “Tenants Association” for bringing them in.
Do any readers think that King Schwarzman himself has never heard or used the term "bullshit"? This would all be funny, if residents weren't suffering so much. But perhaps "dogshit" would be more appropriate here...? Kennedy reminds me of Ellen DeGeneres, who only acted "nice" while on camera. It was/is literally an act.
I was at the northern side of the Oval, by the fountain, maybe 45 minutes to an hour. Two dogs inside the lawn; one a very big dog. The other in a baby carriage who pissed inside the carriage or maybe on the lawn, as the owner went to clean off at the fountain. While I was sitting there, no PS presence. I see stuff like this all the time.
Garodnick also played a big role in selling to Beam.
PS is conspicuous by its absence everywhere. I don’t know why they even exist.
I consider it a public service to warn everyone I meet to not even THINK of renting here.
Let's face it, we have no "management" in the real sense of the word. All they amount to is a bunch of rent-collectors and gimmick merchants. I doubt that any one of them has experience in managing a huge multi-unit residential complex. They are all from the world of low-end resorts, cruise-ships and food and beverage establishments. Exactly what we DON'T need to be running and ruining our homes.
Am sure Bloodsucker Blackstone is in the forefront of "investors" reportedly seeking to profit from what are now politely referred to as "distressed properties" in Maui, Hawaii.
Freshly laid dog turd in the elevator this morn.
What a lovely way to greet the new day?
Shall I consider this another "Oval Amenity"?
Condoms in the stairwell.
Nice. Real nice.
At least no dog shit or urine.
I saw a delivery person taking a leak in the stairwell one time.
I guess when ya gotta go ya gotta go.
ST was already distressed when Blackstone bought it. And has since become much more distressed. But the land it sits on is valuable. Demolition will begin in 2035, or sooner if Schwarzman can bribe enough politicians to abrogate his 2015 "deal" with them.
One of my neighbors had package stole from in front of his door. Turned out that several other people had the same experience. Security footage showed a woman dressed as a delivery person leaving the building with a load of stolen packages.
It's so easy to get into the buildings these days, I don't know why they even lock the doors. It occurred to me that the thief could well have an accomplice living in the building. After all, we don't know who the hell our "neighbors" are these days and anybody with a pulse and a bank account can rent here. No background checks or anything as "quaint" as that. I don't think that "Management" knows who live here apart from the longtime tenants. People just come and go and so long as somebody (doesn't matter who) is paying the rent that is all that "Management" cares about.
The Hell with the damned "Tenants Association" for bringing in this diabolical filth to destroy what used to be a great place to live. Remember, it was some crooked lawyer on the TA Board who lived next door to Jonathan Gray out in the Hamptons during the summer. He suggested that Blackstone buy the property. He was a crooked, disbarred lawyer himself.
I wish I qualified for an apartment in the NYCHA projects. More value for less money. This place is like a NYCHA project nowadays, only not as well run.
Did you actually raise your voice and cuss at Siobhan, STR? Tsk, Tsk. Go stand in the corner with your face to the wall.
We never had this kind of filthy, unsanitary and putrid behavior before this place became a dorm/b-n-b flop house.
“But Maui fire survivors said they are getting calls from real estate investors seeking to buy up what remains of their island homes and property.”
Wonder if it’s anyone we’re unfortunately familiar with?
>>He was a crooked, disbarred lawyer himself.<<
Was he?
That’s what I read.
I think I read that in T&V. He’d done something with clients money that got him fired or disbarred.

According to the T&V Sheehy got the rent stabilized apartment in 1983.
Sheehy had the $5 mill house since 1972, before he got the lease on the 2 Peter Cooper Village combined apartment in 1983 at rent stabilized,. So the Hamptons house is the primary residence and the combo apartments in Peter Cooper Village is the secondary and according to Town & Village the Peter Cooper Village combined apartments went market rate in 1994. So the TA board /lawyer illegally obtained the two Peter Cooper Village apartments and for 11 years was as Rob Speyer says "gaming the system" getting the subsidized rent stabilized apartment from 1983 through 1994 while his primary residence since 1972 was a five million dollar house in East Hampton. If that is indicative of how he operates it is no surprise his fingerprints are on the Blackstone deal and less of a surprise the TA board lied about when they found out about a Blackstone deal.""
Nothing about disbarred. Crooked can be an opinion.
I have found nothing about him being disbarred. I hate to waste time on this, but if that is the charge, please prove it. So? Waiting....
The great(?) Rudy Giuliani isn't disbarred in NY (yet). Only "suspended." And Rob Speyer accused Sheehy of "gaming the system"? Isn't that what Rob himself has done all his life? Isn't that what Blackstone does, too?
I wrote the above. I saw the information in an article a long time ago. Something about him not being totally honest with one of his clients. Could be I was wrong and misunderstood it. I don't remember where I read that. Maybe T&V. I honestly don't remember.
However, it was from an article in T&V that I read about how a member of the TA recommended to Jonathan Gray that Blackstone buy PCVST. I remember it said that he and Gray lived near each other in the summer out in the Hamptons. I also understand that the person in question is not with the TA anymore. I wish I could access the source of my information (or mis-information), but I cannot. Maybe you could just delete my references to his being crooked and/or disbarred. I definitely recall reading that he was pally with his neighbor, Jonathan Gray, and I think there were a few comments about how come someone living in ST could afford a summer place in the Hamptons. Of course, that kind of speculation is of no consequence and he didn't live in Stuyvesant Town. He lived in PCV. Incomes are a little higher there, I believe.
I just saw the 4:16 PM post. I am not the same person who just responded to you around 10:20 pm, STR.
Plenty of the remaining TA members undoubtedly have "summer places" in the Hamptons or elsewhere, too. Consequently, Blackstone 'events' in the Oval don't disturb them. In fact, they are physically present here so infrequently that nothing bothers them.
It really doesn't matter at this point how and why Blackstone decided to buy the property. I just know that it was the worst thing that has happened to us - so far. It could always get worse.
I don't know how the TA continues to exist (though I'm glad it does because they stopped those filthy power station things from being put on the property). It must be that at least 75% of the residents are short-term. They are not invested in this place in any way and probably don't care what happens to it. Pretty sure they don't send any membership dues to the TA. If the TA really did bring in Blackstone, then it signed the death warrant for PCVST. Don't know if they are stupid or crooked.
I know that other and better RE giants were looking to buy the place. I know that FOR A FACT because I worked for the law firm that represented them. They certainly wouldn't have destroyed it the way Blackstone has and it probably would have eventually gone co-op.
The corrupt TA and that filthy little slimeball, Garodnick, had a lot to do with it.
This place has totally gone to hell in a handbasket as the old saying goes. I know people living in the overpriced renovated apartments who can't get appliances fixed and are appalled at the kind of service they get for what they pay.
They need to get rid of Siobhan and others from the hospitality industry, and put in people who know about running a HOUSING complex. I would never recommend anyone rent here. I would care if they were giving a $10k bounty for bring in a new victim. My advice to anyone thinking of renting here is "DON'T because you will regret it. Don't throw you money away. We have no real Management." I never thought this place would go so far down the toilet that it may never come back up.
TA isn't stupid--a small cabal took care of THEMSELVES very well. But they are definitely crooked.
The TA lawyer guy was disbarred. i saw it on-line. When you look now it just says deceased.
Management has no idea (or interest) in who rents the “market rate” units. Air b n b is rife and nobody renting these units are going to go on vacation without renting out their unit. I don’t blame them. We don’t know who our neighbors are.
>>The TA lawyer guy was disbarred. i saw it on-line. When you look now it just says deceased.<<
A lot of things are online that are false. But actual proof?
I am no shill for the TA. In fact, I haven't renewed my membership in a while. However, they really have done a lot of good for us. They prevented Blackstone from building filthy power plants on the property which would have just about poisoned us and was solely for the purpose of selling steam back to Con Ed. The TA got all of the apartments (even market rate) to be covered under the RS laws. Their lawyers have done a lot for us really. They prevented Management from putting an outside cafe at the back of the Associated space. This would have been a nightmare for people living in the vicinity. There have, I believe, been other significant victories over the SATANIC BASTARDS who own this place.
Bottom Line: the TA does work on our behalf and even if it's true that they bear responsibility (or some of the responsibility) for bringing the SATANIC BASTARDS in, well .... what's done is done. I remember CWC was a horrible bunch (Compass Rock - more like Compass CROCK) and Tishman Speyer was the vilest of the vile.
There was a short-lived management by Adam Rose and they seemed ok, from what I can remember.
I think the entire country is currently at the risk of become throwback to the Third Reich and ruthless crap like Blackstone is all part of the process.
>>They prevented Management from putting an outside cafe at the back of the Associated space.<<
Did they? What is the proof?
Absolutely true that this a transient/dorm Airbnb place now. Constant turnover of people in my building. Rolling suitcases galore. One apartment on my floor keeps their door unlocked much of the time. They have no idea who lives here anymore.
9:37, the TA is a nasty arm of management. Let us look at what they didn’t do: help get us consistent heat during the winter, get us a decent grocery store where Associated was, get rid of the vile concerts and oval events, and most of all they promoted this sale to Beam along with Garodnick. They are corrupt, ineffective, and a joke. Also nasty, refused to accept any dissent on their blog when they had a real one. The heat and oval noise issues are serious health and QOL issues. There are not even any attempts at addressing the above and they certainly don’t hold management to any standards and rules.
TA may have had some role in stopping those power plants, but they were NOT the only factor involved. Same goes for the outside cafe.
One of my neighbors goes to their meetings. That’s who told me. I don’t really care.
@9:54 AM: Everything you say is true. Very true. I don't think they do anything for tenants except ask for money.
Are Madam Fuhrer and Generalissimo Dunn still ruling the non-TA facebook page with their fists of iron? I was blocked and I can't even remember why! It doesn't take much!
Instead of spending time, effort and money on all those tacky "events," it would be nice if "management" directed its attention to the filthy carpets we have in our halls. I think they must have laid off half of the people who work to keep the buildings clean and wholesome. I am embarrassed to have anybody come visit me these days, and that is a shame because now we are not on "lock down" it is nice to invite friends over.
I am embarrassed at the air of neglect that hangs over this place now. Why the hell don't they get rid of this bunch of losers and bring in a REAL management that has experience in the world of running residential properties?
They want us to recommend this place to friends and acquaintances. How can they possibly expect us to do that when we are embarrassed to invite people into our homes because they have to use the dog-shitted elevators and the filthy hall carpets. I know the porters work hard, but I think they have cut that force to the bone.
Anybody who can afford the asking rents for this dump must have been lobotomized before accepting a unit here.
"TA may have had some role in stopping those power plants, but they were NOT the only factor involved. Same goes for the outside cafe."
Who else do you think had a hand in it? I'm not snarking. I am genuinely interested.
9:54 AM: I agree with you 100%. The TA is a scam. Btw, both the TA FB and the non-TA FB are "moderated" by the same nasty bunch of bitchy old ladies.
I agree that the carpets are filthy. Our porter vacuums them, but the stains are terrible. The only remedy is replacement. I too am embarrassed to have people over to my apartment here. It has become a nasty looking project especially when the oval is overrun with crap during the events. Although they have a guard at the opening near Playground 12, I noticed people going under the rail at other spots and coming through the opening by the fountain. As a consequence, outsiders are a good part of the “audience”.
You said it all! Right on the money’
The TA was much better and more effective when it was led by Al Doyle and John Marsh.
"The TA was much better and more effective when it was led by Al Doyle and John Marsh."
That is a ridiculous statement that is patently untrue. Those two buffoons are the ones who started this crap. Along with Dan Garodnick, these three are the ones who put us here. No one carries more blame for the fall of Stuyvesant Town/PCV than these three idiots.
Who else do you think had a hand in it? I'm not snarking. I am genuinely interested.
Me and thousands like me, non TA members who wrote and called (actually hounded) our elected officials, local media, etc.
You're welcome.
A lot of things are online that are false. But actual proof?
It was on the official Bar Association website. Not Twitter. It was actual proof.
I’ve lost the plot. Who did what?
I wonder how many unrenovated units exist here? I know they want us all to die soon. I don’t think there are many left since the Pandemic. This is no longer a community the way it used to be.
Thank you!
They can't rent the renovated apartments for what they are asking unless they rent to students or groups of room mates. This is not a "family" place anymore.
Thank God tonight is the last concert! It has already started with warm ups of what I believe is rap music!
Wonder how many outsiders will show up?
This city is noisy enough without having to listen to this music and I use the term loosely!
Thank goodness this is the last vile concert this summer. The noise is unbearable in our oval apartments. Horrible screeching at unacceptable levels. I welcome the end of summer in this foul environment.
Stuyvesant Town, The Oval
Tonight, August 23rd of 2023, was among the worst night in terms of noise and examples of why too many members of the human race need massive re-education programs which feature consideration for others.
I am being polite. I would rather express my genuine desires for the fate of these human toxins, but it isn't prudent.
The "event," which included both a movie and a "concert" of multiple genres was a horror, dangerous, illegal, an abomination for the NEIGHBORS (residents) here.
I capitalize the entire word "neighbors" to emphasize the CONFESSION, POSSIBLY BRAGGING, which was done at the "concert's" conclusion by the short (on decency), morally ugly, and hideously emotionally deformed s.o.b. Robert Vasquez. Yes, I am sorry his youth was so troubled, and he was hurt so badly in his late adolescence. It is neither excuse nor acceptable for the tin pot tiny little dictator he has fashioned himself into and hurt thousands of us by in the process.
He's someone I know too well and have come to despise for excellent reasons. Tonight, rather than sneering at me, personally, and making obnoxious remarks, and lying, he made a public announcement to any of the hundreds? thousands? of residents who were subjected to his acoustic assault.
At the end of the "concert," he stood up on stage, glorying in his "control" of hundreds of idiots on the Oval and made this 2 sentence announcement and appeal:
It was approximately 8:28 p.m.; I was in a bedroom trying to get some serious scholarly work accomplished, when this came through my window, loud and clear:
“This is the last concert of the year
LET YOUR NEIGHBORS KNOW HOW MUCH YOU ENJOYED IT."
In other words, he urged, through an already offensive and illegal sound system, the cretins on the grass, the hundreds destroying the Oval to MAKE AS MUCH NOISE AS POSSIBLE CHEERING, CLAPPING, YELLING, SCREAMING, WHISTLING in order TO FILL THE EARS (AND REST OF THE BODY) OF THOSE "NEIGHBORS" (Residents, Tenants - people living their lives in their homes).
He actually TOLD hundreds of people to make as much noise as possible to DISTURB THEIR NEIGHBORS.
This was a huge, hideous "F*CK YOU and I CAN NOT ONLY DO WHAT I WANT, BUT I CAN MAKE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE DO WHAT I WANT TO HURT YOU."
And, of course: the morons on the denuded, tortured grass obeyed this human toxin.
I'm not anywhere near the Oval and my windows were shaking from the sound last night. I feel bad for the tenants near the Oval. I have no doubt that management pays off both the police and elected pols for their silence in allowing these events which I'm sure are illegal.
What an abomination!
There is one ST official at an opening who I suppose might be checking if people live here. Laughingly, I saw people ducking under at various spots and there is another opening across the oval. Lots of outsiders, but I am aware of residents who go to these vile events and even broadcast for meet ups at them.
It is a despicable abomination. I live on the oval. The excuse that the politicians give is that lots of people are there and enjoy the events.
I am on 14th Street and could hear that noise. I thought at first that there was a violent demonstration going on over here, then I realized it was the “event” in the Oval. It is a slap in the face to the majority of residents who are disturbed by that abomination and are being force-fed it. Won’t be voting for any of the sh*t who defend these events.
"The excuse that the politicians give is that lots of people are there and enjoy the events."
Most of the people who attend these events do not live here and do not vote for said policians. I wish we could get some media coverage about these abominations. Our right to the peaceful enjoyment of our homes is violated on a regular basis by these Carnival Cruise rejects who are responsible for these vile "events."
We have no real management here. We have no General Manager and Ms. Kennedy is out of her depth here. She is from the hospitality industry and has no idea as to how a huge, sprawling rental property should be managed. She is all "bread and circuses" and that is not we want and not what we are paying rent for.
When Blackstone bought the property it scoured its enormous Resorts and Hotels portfolio and recruited from there. They are very nice people, but not equipped to manage a huge rental property, especially in New York City. Maybe out in the boondocks where there is nothing going on in the way of entertainment, they would be ok. But not here. We don't want or need loud, cheesy "events" right under our windows on warm summer nights when we just want to relax in the peace and privacy of our homes. What used to be a pleasant place to have in our midst (was the envy of the City and the Crown Jewel of ST) has been destroyed and turned into a space for these shitty venues.
We badly need a real Tenants Association. One that's got BALLS!
"It is a despicable abomination. I live on the oval. The excuse that the politicians give is that lots of people are there and enjoy the events."
Even more people are NOT there and are deprived of the peace and quiet they are entitled to in the homes they are paying rent for. There most certainly has to be a lot of graft and corruption in play because this is a residential property and these outrageously noisy and disruptive "events" should not be allowed. Do other rental (or co-op) properties inflict this type of garbage on their tenants? Penn South, Battery Park City, Riverside, etc.? I don't think so.
"Do other rental (or co-op) properties inflict this type of garbage on their tenants? "
Yes Waterside does for movies. See link. Not sure about concerts but there was a movie there at the Plaza last Wednesday, 8/16/23. This Cruise Ship mentality is widespread in the NYC Dep of Parks, Governors Island, etc. The rube mentality is strong. And here, there are some long term residents who love this crap as well as evident by 2 recent posts at the TA FB page.
https://donyc.com/venues/waterside-plaza
https://www.nycgovparks.org/events/free_summer_movies
I am familiar with Waterside. Unlike Stuy Town, it is not surrounded by buildings.
"I am familiar with Waterside. Unlike Stuy Town, it is not surrounded by buildings."
The Plaza where the movies are screened is surrounded on 3 sides (west, north, south, the east side is open) by buildings so that the sound echos back and forth there as well. As I noted, I was there on 8/16 and it was pretty loud, not as bad as the Oval but still pretty annoying. As per my post, this Cruise Ship mentality is now embedded in the City, Adams and Powers are big fans.
"I am familiar with Waterside. Unlike Stuy Town, it is not surrounded by buildings."
I meant to say Waterside, but came up with Riverside. Duh!
I'm sure "management" must be violating some noise ordinances with these execrable offerings. It seems they are able to get away with a lot of things that are very questionable. They still haven't remedied the illegally altered directories in the lobbies. Still lots and lots of persons named "Private" living here. Actually, I don't think they know who lives here. People do their own subletting and apartment swapping and Management doesn't know or want to know about it. Of course, it would be different if somebody in an un-renovated unit did that. They would be flung out in a heartbeat. Then again, maybe they wouldn't even know. They don't seem to know who lives here and I don't think they care.
STR, there is no intelligence running this place. Only stupidity and greed. Those two "attributes" usually go together.
"The area near Associated is perfect. But, no, we have to have it as part of Oval south."
Not for those of us who live near the back of Associated, thank you.
There is a long area by Associated, not its back, but where the "island" is, past Associated and the sidewalk. A greenmarket can go there. But now, the trucks and stalls and customers are inside Stuy Town.
Beam/Blackstone consider the property theirs and that they can do what they want, as long as they don't upset the politicians and break certain, but no all, laws.
The politicians are ok with anything Beam wants to do so long as they get their "under the counter" pay-offs. Beam may consider the property theirs, but we consider our homes ours so long as we pay the rent. Blackstone considers this property a goldmine. In order to do that they have to make it a shithole.
Does the Tenants Association still exist?
Years back, the word "property" was seldom used as it is now. We've been conditioned by interests such as "real estate," itself a presumptuous and preposterous term to accept that "IT BELONGS TO THEM."
It is a loaded word, freighted with notions of control over . . . In this case, it is used to arrogate power and hence the deranged concept of "right" to deform, invade, burn, cut down (read, "Murder"), poison, torture: the earth itself, featuring soil; non-human creature whose home it is (trees, grass, other vegetation, birds, insects, whatever non-human creatures live in the soil as well as squirrels and other lives) AND
man-made physical structures such as buildings of all kinds AND
PEOPLE.
When you think to yourself, and/or then utter the word "property" about sections of the Earth, you're invoking thousands of years of human torment and destruction.
Over the last years, we've accepted all of this verbal deception. "Hell, no," would be a helpful, healing response predictive of restoration of sanity and caring for the Earth, and all of Her life forms.
This is not politics or philosophy or semantics. It is beyond all of that.
The TA exists only as an arm of management. Most tenants are on to them and I doubt that they have many members anymore.
Two large piles of DOG SHIT in stairway of ***East 20th Street.
What do you suggest we do?
Let's face it, there really is no "Management" here. Kennedy is not a real "Manager." I don't know what she is other than a pusher of silly "events." The buildings are filthy and nobody knows who their neighbor is. I am embarrassed to invite friends over. This used to be one of most enviable places to live, but now it is no better than a NYCHA Project. I don't mean to diss the tenants of NYCHA, but the City does not run that housing very well.
I am really sick of the sloppy, unprofessional way this place is run and can't wait for my lease to end. I'm paying Market Rate for NYCHA conditions. I may break my lease so I don't have to endure another winter without heat.
"What do you suggest we do?"
Is this concerning language? First off, use different words instead of "property." Apartments, buildings, parks, land, playgrounds, "the development" or "the complex," or "Stuyvesant Town" (not "Stuytown") or "Peter Cooper Village." Heck, I even like "the Projects" better! I'm sure other people can come up with other and better words.
That way we change both our perspective and attitudes and do not feel "owned" or "controlled."
Once that has sunk in a bit, maybe actions?
I too am embarrassed to have friends come here. The carpet on our hall floor is filthy and stained. The lobby is often filled with junk people put on the shelves. In the summer the oval is disgusting with the sunbathers and picnics.
If you contact these losers, all you’ll get is a passive aggressive response like the one STR got when he pointed out the sloppy pavement work to Kennedy.
They’re out of their depth and we’re stuck with resorts and cruise ships losers who know NOTHING about running a housing project and are not capable of learning.
The property is doomed.
Our homes and our lives are doomed.
"Our homes and our lives are doomed."
Not really. This isn't the last place in the world to live - and may well be the last place in the world where anybody would want to live, especially when they're paying through the nose.
Maybe they will eventually get a real property management company to take over from the current clowns. We need people with residential real estate experience and this lot don't have that. They are all from the hospitality industry and treat us like we're guests, not tenants. Actually, I would never want to stay at a hotel or resort that was run by this lot, so it goes without saying that I don't appreciate living under the "management" of same.
I wish we had a tenants association that really was just that - a tenants association - and not just suck-ups to management and politicians
The scum who mismanage this place talk down to tenants as if they were patient in a mental hospital.
I wish they would all just go back to their low-level resort jobs.
