There are several types of residents. Some residents don't care as they are just passing through, a couple of years at most. Other residents are idiots (I'm being frank, sorry) and will accept just about anything. But there are residents that care. The problem is that I care, too.
I see battles. The major one is the two power plants being built in Stuyvesant Town. Both are pollutants in an area that is already high in pollutants. The power plants are also obstructing the view of those in apartments living close. This is Blackstone's doing. (Beam Living is under the leadership of Blackstone, so one is the other.) I will refrain from talking about the East River Park, another serious disaster that will devastate that community, usually poorer people and therefore "undesirable."
The other battle is Rosemary's, the new Italian restaurant on the corner of 20th Street and 1st Ave. The Peter Cooper building that was adjacent to it had a loss of certain power for weeks. You can guess why that building needed to be rewired. Rosemary's upper new area for growing eatable plants is nice, but it is also blocking a few apartments from the clear view they once had.
Aside from these issues, I was willing to let Rosemary's "live and let live." But an article appeared in the NY Post that explained more. While the article is a promo piece for the restaurant and an embarrassment of its writer and the Post, we learn that Blackstone has a financial investment in Rosemary's. Yes. Blackstone. (They probably also invested in the Five Stuy Cafe, but that's another story.) Also, the article stated that we live in a "ghost town," with insufficient eateries and catering to the hospital crowd..... Hm, what of the large Hane, which is just across the corner from Rosemary's? What of the Italian restaurants on the other side of 1st Ave? What of the Coopertown Diner? Gracefully?? What of the popular two restaurants that were where Rosemary's now is--the Belgian Waffle place and Mexican one--Vamos? Of course, the new bus stop is away from the old one, near 1st Ave. Makes sense now. It gives Rosemary's extra space to construct an outdoor seating area. A lot of things make sense now with Blackstone's involvement.
There are other concerns. If you go to Trader Joe's at various times of the day, it is hard to get through on south 14th Street. The councilperson of that area does nothing. There are movements to defund the police, have Black Lives Matter as our unofficial spokesperson, etc.These are concerns, but right now, in our community, are other concerns, more immediate ones..
(Thanks to political involvement and concerned neighbors, the power plants may be halted. To be seen what happens and if the plant that's on Ave. C will be demolished or just left as an "example.")

That Post article is "planted"(=Fake News). During the Fifties (which obviously nobody at the newspaper or Blackstone can or wants to remember), there was a restaurant located on East First Avenue, near 17th or 18th Street. But it was a commercial tenant, not "backed" by the current landlord in yet another shady deal.
I'll stick to going to Frank's. I think it would be a good idea to boycott Rosemary's and any other commercial crap that Blackstone puts in.
Maybe if Trader Joe and Target started doing some SERIOUS complaining to that lazy, corrupt b*tch who "represents" the district of their side of the street, something would be done about all those peddlers who line the street with their garbage and who are hindering commerce for the smaller businesses over there (Petopia is one that really deserves a break from the shit). There are times when I actually miss the Giuliani years and I hate to admit that because I think he is a loathsome little jerk, but he did clean up the streets quite a bit. I think many people will leave Stytown if these power plants go through. Why would you want to live in the vicinity of a polluting monstrosity that will probably blow up one day! I guarantee that if these death machines are built, we will still get no heat in winter and Blackstone will pocket every penny in profit. To bad that Evil lives among us and owns the property. They make MetLife look like saints - and MetLife was anything BUT saintly! It was as ruthless as they come, but they did keep their end of the deal with the City for a long time.
The restaurant Anonymous is talking about was St. Clare's. Nice place with seated dining, and there was also a big lunch counter. There was a shallow dome in the roof with stars in it. St. Clare's was followed by McGinnis's, which moved closer to Gramercy Park after a while.
To the other Anonymous, there was never any heat in Stuy Town in winter. The insides of the windows would be covered with ice. The only hot thing was the standpipe in the bathroom, and every so often you'd burn yourself on it.
Nothing is going to get better. It will get worse. We have the worst landlord on the face of the earth that is owned by a demonic cartoon of a character who cares only about money. The thought of money gives him orgasms, and the sight and touch of it sends him into a solo orgy of multiple orgasms. He has no soul because he sold it.
Best to just get out before the new cheaply and badly installed power plants start oozing carcinogenic effluence. Do your public duty, to the extent possible, by warning everybody you know, as well as strangers who you don't know, to avoid every even coming near this place, never mind renting here. Totally off topic, I know, but I am so utterly disgusted at the way the Dems are treating Scott Stringer. Some woman comes out of the woodwork to claim something happened 20 years ago. Where's she been till now? I don't actually believe her and don't really care, especially as the two had a consensual relationship eons ago. If Stringer drops out because of the harassment, I will hold my nose and vote for whomever the Repug candidate is. These so-called "Progressive" Dems are such a bunch self-serving crap.

He is part of the crowd of candidates that openly refuses to acknowledge serious quality of life problems that have spiraled out of control in the past 8 years under the current mayor. A mayor who, I might add, made mental illness and homelessness a priority from day one. The "recycling" place in my building was overflowing with pizza boxes (complete with grease and crusts) and so much stuff was dumped in the wrong bins. It must be absolute HELL to be a porter working in this overpriced dorm/slum. From now on ALL my garbage (except glass) goes down the compactor chute. It is a total waste of time and effort to try to recycle in this dump because most of the "residents" are too stupid or lazy to know how to recycle. Don't even get me started on composting! I have seen IDIOTS dump plastic containers of greasy shit into the composting bins. Give it up already. Recycling and composting are epic failures in a place that caters to assholes!
My brother-in-law works for the SDNY and he told me that NO the people who work there DO NOT sort the shit from the recyclable stuff. You throw shit into the recycling bin, it cancels out the whole contents of the bin. So, just don't bother recycling so long as we have total cretins living among us.

But they don't care, since they've reportedly already bought property on the Connecticut shore for their Happy Retirement.
The filthy slum conditions on 14th Street across from Sty are really incredibly disgusting and dangerous. I don't like going over to Trader Joe or Target now because of all those "peddlers" who line the street and take up most of the sidewalk. I feel sorry for the small businesses because people are afraid to go near them. McDonalds was always a shit show, but not nearly as bad as now. The entire street and parts of Avenue A and First Avenue have been taken over by these people. Where do they get the stuff they are peddling? Lot of drug activity going on as well as the dreck-peddling. They've also started up outside the Post Office on the north side of 14th and the stretch of First Avenue up to 15th Street. I'm glad they're not still touting this place as "Luxury" because that would absolutely laughable! I honestly can't imagine why anybody would want to move in here unless it was at a very, very low rent. It's worse now than it was back in the 70s and 80s when Alphabet City was the drug capital of the world! I didn't live here then (was on the famous waiting list!), but used to visit friends here and it was a scary neighborhood, but there was Security in Stuyvesant Town and the grounds were reasonably safe. Now there are cameras that nobody watches and might possibly useful for after-the-fact analysis.

I never thought Frank's was that great, and the portions are small compared to the price (but I guess that's the case with just about every restaurant in NYC). I do agree regarding the "boring" Rosemary's menu however. You're the first person I've seen mention that. I won't be eating there.
After working near Cross Bay Boulevard for 30 years, and eating my Italian food there, It's going to be hard to eat Italian food next to the sty. I think I'll be cooking my own Italian food.

The late, not-lamented Town&Village newspaper used to have offices/printing plant located near Avenue B and 14th Street. 14th Street was quite safe everywhere BEFORE the Seventies. Stuyvesant Town residents used to shop in Alphabet City in those days, and their children even went to Public Elementary Schools there. Yes, very hard to believe now.
I have never and will never patronize any of the commercial enterprises that Bloodstone profits from. That includes the Five Turd EColi Cafe and Rosemary's. Don't need any of their other profit-making "amenities" or "facilities" either. Don't even do my laundry here as the machines are dirty, malfunctioning and grossly overpriced. The subways have become crime pits. I finally saw cops at the1sf Avenue station last evening after this happened. I travel by subway a couple of times a week and cop presence particularly on the platforms is zero. If you do see them, they are bunched in pairs or threesomes standing together near the booths.

I think there is nothing that uplifts the spirits better than seeing beautiful green leafy trees. Just the rustle of them is beautiful. Without the abundance of trees Stuy is just an ugly, dreary housing project.
There's a stretch of path behind 626/628 East 20th which has been buckling for some time due to tree roots breaking through the pavement. I guess management is waiting for someone to fall and break some bones. If an elderly person breaks a bone due to it then it can lead to a very bad outcome. I sense a lawsuit happening eventually if inept management doesn't repave this area.
Another shut down of the water in my building, and I would think a couple of more buildings. That makes three in a row. Of course, it has nothing to do with the power plant on this side.... Yeah, right.

Today the disgusting flea market between 14th and 1st and A was temporarily broken up by police. Of course they missed a group around the corner on First Avenue. Instead of walking up and down, four were congregated together on Avenue A. Flea market scum were ready with suitcases and wares to continue after they leave. I imagine they will leave soon and that disgusting illegal flea market will continue. Would be shocked if a cop stayed around all day to monitor it. Mentally ill guy screaming and ranting across the street on First Avenue. Neighborhood is absolutely appalling.
This new GM is just as (if not more) clueless than the previous ones. I'm not surprised that the last one couldn't stand the job; he probably had a conscience and some integrity and those are serious drawbacks to being able to perform to Blackstone's specifications.
I heard that they're changing the key cards in some, if not all, buildings. No notice to tenants, of course and tenants are required to go over to PS to get the new cards. These total assholes just don't give a damn about the tenants and treat us like garbage.

I am a big fan of non-human life. But I wasn't able to overcome my panic and fear of those critters. I only saw one; my then husband dealt with the kitchen during a visit of his best friend. The bedroom bug looked more like a crawling big "animal" than arachnid or insect, city girl that I was.
This place is a slum. It wasn't always a slum, but since MetLife sold it to blood-sucking filth it has steadily gone downhill. Why would anybody want to rent here and make it their home? Nobody with any brains or self-respect. It is a low-end college dorm/flea-pit and our elected "representatives" have been on the payroll of the vermin who have owned it since 2001. It started when MetLife ceased to be a mutual insurance company and came under the "leadership" of BenMoishe (who is now where he belongs - six feet under) and it spiraled down the gutter when the avaricious cretin known as Rob Speyer got his fangs into it. Now our homes are owned by Stephan Schmecklehead and it is just about finished. It is lower in QOL than NYCHA projects. Just tear it down already. It's over. Nobody wants to pay serious money to live here. It is an embarrassing shithole.
Well.... Though the property has gone downhill, people still want to live here, and Blackstone wants to upgrade the place so that more money will come in. Look around and see if Blackstone wants this place to be transformed. Rosemary's is a significant part of this "upgrade." Imagine the city has moved the corner bus stop, so that Rosemary's will have more room on the sidewalk! This is the power of Blackstone. I am dubious about the projected power plants on the property, too.
And replacing Associated, which Management didn't want, is the upscale Chef's Local Harvest: "Chef’s Local Harvest will offer a wide variety of grocery items, a cafe, and even a community space for stand-up comedy, music, local art exhibits, and more seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m."
And there will be a new opening in the back of Local Harvest for Stuy Town residents. You will not have to cross any street now.
STR, in spite of what the cretins at Blackstone believe and no matter how much bribe money they shove at our local politicians and various agencies, two ugly, polluting power plants are NOT going to enhance the property in any way shape or form! It is no longer a bucolic oasis. It is a scruffy slum. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig. Not that the power plants are "lipstick," but rather a sign of Blackstone's utter contempt for human life and obscene obsession with MONEY. Maybe it will function as a dorm/transient squat for a while longer, but nobody who wants to have any real quality of life (especially if they want to raise children here) is going to want to rent here and stay for more than one lease-length of occupancy. Those are the very people who have been moving OUT in droves. It's life as a desirable residential apartment complex is pretty much over.
Speaking of power plants, the loud noise you hear near the west side of the 20th Street loop is workers (no doubt non-union) breaking rocks with a large hammer. So work on the other power plant has really started.

People do not want to live here. There are a lot of empty apartments. They will fill when college kids come back over the summer. There are lots of transients, foreigners who have deals with Beam for short term leases, students, etc. many of the patrons of Rosemary’s are old timers, or people who live on the lower East side, Gramercy and midtown. My floor has an apartment empty for 3 months. This has never occurred. The laundry room is much less crowded.
I agree. People are moving out in droves. Just because they built a new restaurant means nothing. Patrons will not necessarily come exclusively from ST and PC.
People did want to live here and have their babies and raise them here when the grounds were beautiful (not that long ago) and safe. The grounds are still pretty, though not as much as before, but they are threatened more and more by the rise in retail and money-making "amenities" that are popping up all over, not to mention the absolute plethora of dogs! I have been woken up early every morning for the last few weeks by some walker who escorts huge, ferocious dogs and they always get into a snarling, growling and screaming match with someone who walks a bunch of little dogs. It is an ugly sound to be woken up by! The grounds are nowhere nearly as pleasant as they used to be and still could be. There are bicycles (some electric), skate boards, scooters and none of them bothers to be careful and that means children and elderly and handicapped people are in constant peril.
It's been a very sad experience watching the property and the quality of life here gradually go further and further down the toilet. I used to encourage friends to try to get a flat here because it was a very nice place, even though a bit overpriced. Now I would never dream of suggesting to a friend or acquaintance that they live here, especially if they have kids. It wouldn't be fair and I would lose those friends.
And Public Safety does nothing about those motorized scooters and bicycles which are more and more frequent. Oh, yeah, there will be Management and PS excuses, but it's just talk.

So far, no official word from Management about this updated rule, which gives more freedom to the individual. The mask rule was broken by certain residents and some residents took the rule very seriously. It was a mixture of this and that, and everything in between.
That is precisely why Covid spread widely in this community last year, poor adherence to mask rules and transients galore. I don’t think the masks will be much of an issue anymore as outdoors is pretty safe. Perhaps the elevators. I just don’t get in with people I don’t know or have not been vaccinated. Will still do that when they stop wearing masks, because who knows the vaccinated from the unvaccinated.

There are cameras in the elevators. You should call PS and ask them to look at the footage for that particular car and they will see who the person was who allowed the dog to dump there. Even if the dog couldn't hold it in, the owner should have cleaned up the mess. The poor porters who work here should hazard pay for what they have to deal with when it comes the SCUM that management rents to these days.
Another idea, take a photograph of the shit and send it to the GM and tell him you are going to send copies to the press or put them on social media and warn people about this place. I would. I most certainly would!

14th Street is as bad now as it was forty years ago. I know because that's how long I've lived here. Are there any Republicans running for mayor this time? I've always voted Democrat, but can't help but notice that the only times we had safer and cleaner streets was when we had Republican mayors. De Blasio has been an absolute disaster and I don't think there is anybody of a higher caliber (among the Dems) trying to take his job. It would be nice to have a Mayor who is all for law and order without being a racist or a plutocrat.

They were out there yesterday on 14th St. Not as many when I walked by. Most of the vendors appeared to be very unintimidated . They just sit and wait until the cops leave. I did notice 2 cops keeping guard in CVS the other day. The usual mentally ill ranting on the corner of 14th and First.
I was going to CVS the other day, but changed my mind and walked briskly away. The reason: a group of obviously mentally ill people were congregated outside. One guy was screaming at the top of his lungs and throwing punches. There was nobody who he was throwing the punches at and they must have been in his head. Seriously mentally ill people see and hear things and people who are not there. These hallucinations, auditory and visually, are VERY VERY real to them. These poor souls need to be on anti-psychotic medication and monitored. As a society, very little (or nothing) is done to help these folk. If somebody gets hit by a car or has a heart attack on the street, help arrives immediately. The mentally ill get no such care. We are all in danger from these sick people because the "voices" could be telling them to hit somebody and they will obey the voices. It is fortunate when the "somebody" is an hallucination, but a real live person standing there could be mistaken for the hallucination and get hit, kicked, knifed or simply pushed under a bus or car.
It's terrifying going anywhere near CVS and it's just as bad going to the Post Office. No wonder so many of us shop online!

This morning I saw several workmen getting ready to cut down an enormous tree near playground 1 in a grassy area facing 20th Street. Is this where they are building a power plant?? This tree is beautiful and living and lots of squirrels and birds call it home. This is disgraceful !!!!!!!!!!! All the idiots who work for Blackstone keep doing is destroying any quality of life in the name of greed !!!!

Any casual observer wandering PCVST for 1-2 hours will encounter a large number of OVERSIZED and/or AGGRESIVE-BREED dogs paraded around the complex with impunity.

I would suspect so. A lot of "issues" are being created east and west at Stuy Town because of the building of these power plants.

Periodically, I sit near the large guardhouse at PCV. I see continually dogs of all sizes and breeds being casually walked into PCV from outside. The guards there do not say a word, nor does anyone working for Stuy Town.
But just SEEING dogs is supposed to make people...happy (supposedly including non-owners)! Of course, this is just stupid Pet Lobby Propaganda. And Pet Lobby is a multi-billion dollar business, just like Blackstone....
Let's face it, Sty town is on its last gasp when it comes to being a pleasant "oasis in the city." It is being deliberately turned into a filthy, polluted, slummy low-end (but high rent!) housing project. Blackstone bought it to destroy it. Blackstone destroys the quality of life of every property it gets its filthy, avaricious hands on and the scum who helped them acquire the property knew that, and no doubt got their paydays.
The “guards” are only permitted to go after little old ladies feed the birds and squirrels.
Noise and dogs. I've come to hate this place so much because of both.
There are no dog parks here, There are only dirty, dog dumps, illegal dog runs.
