Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

Does anyone know how many key cards we're entitled to? I recall when we had keys i had 2 sets. I only have one keycard. I could use a second one for guests from time to time and I noticed that management charges a fee for them.
You get one key card per person on the lease. Key cards are automatically de activated after a certain period of non-use (I don't know the exact time, but it might be 60 days). It would be helpful for them to give you a spare card, and then you can go to the office (where ever that is) and have them activate your guest card, but they insist on documenting to the nth degree, everyone who has access. Can't let those nasty subletters into rent stabilized apartments now, can we ? Only Hotel guests at $300 a night.
Re: key cards. The 9/19/05 DHCR ruling (I think this is the latest. We lost our appeal on 7/17/06.) was that we're entitled to 4 free cards. Additional cards cost $8.
From the TA flyer:
1. All tenants and lawful occupants will receive free keycards. In addition, there is no limit to the number of keycards, which may be issued for an apartment. Tenants will receive 4 free cards for employees and guests. There will be a charge of $8 per keycard for each additional keycard over that amount.
2. Tenants and “Guests” will receive permanent keycards. Invitees will receive keycards, which may be limited to the actual time services are being rendered to the tenants. [TENANTS ASSOCIATION NOTE: “Invitees” clearly means employees and “guests” are relatives and friends.] Owner may periodically request tenants to verify that keycard information is current.
3. Individuals obtaining keycards must provide appropriate proof of identity, but the owner may not record any data (i.e. driver’s license number).
4. Owner may not request or retain, in any form, the social security number of more than one (1) tenant or legal occupant for each apartment unless the security deposit is kept in a joint type of an account.
I heard on 1010 yesterday that certain "affluent" neighborhoods in the city were able to have these bike docking stations relocated or removed. I sent Garodnick an email over a month ago questioning the need for 3 of them around stuy town. I never got a response. More and more we are losing parking spots and I certainly can't afford the garage (as well as others I know). I wonder what Dan's response would be to these recent docking station removals and why they couldn't occur here: at least one of them?
What happened to the key deposits that he old stabilized tenants paid for each Stuy Town key? Where's that money?

CB6 apparently approved the locations for all the bike docks. It is ridiculous and they should have planned better. There is an island with sand and seagerass or something(?)where there used to be a road on 20th and first by the begian and mexican bars why not put 2/3 stations there? Or use the park along the river? The DOT with CB6 and Mayor Bloomberg's assistance is waging an all out war on car owners. The Post had the same article about the rich getting the bike stations moved, but hasn't that been the hallmark of this administration, i.e., the rich always getting what they want while the middle class gets fu...err treated badly. PS It looks like they are removing more parking to widen the bus stop on 14th and First. Almost twice the population thanks to temporary walls and over 100 less public parking spots if you factor in all the spots on Ave C from 23rd to 18th. Way to go CB6, you really have screwed the very people you are supposed to represent but your loyalty to King Bloomberg is ______ (you fill in the blank).

I hate the bike racks too for so many reasons--reduced access to sidewalks, the rapidly accumulating trash between the racks and the curb, etc. But too many people get angry after the fact instead of taking action to prevent things from happening (although polls showed a lot of support in the city for the bikes).
My point: there's a hearing tonight about the sanitation garage the city wants to put on First Avenue and 25th Street from 7 to 9 (425 E 25, Brookdale Auditorium). How many of us will turn up to hear the proposal and make our voices heard, and how many of us will be vilifying Dan and CB6 afterward (even if they should do better by us)? My guess is the second group will be much bigger, especially since STers think this won't affect them.

Yet another inane comment. Unfortunately some of us MUST have a car and cannot afford the parking garages, you hating the cars not withstanding. I too support the bike program, but there simply is no need for so many docking stations around the sty. If docking stations have indeed been removed from certain areas it would be interesting to hear cb6's explanation as to why at least one couldn't be removed from the sty.
Apparently there is a need because most of them are close to empty every day. Usually the only ones that are still there are broken or have some computer glitch with the code because those racks empty out fast. I don't like the corporate aspect, but people are riding them and they are a HUGE success. Parking is so low on the priority list of problems and this is so much better for our city long term.
ST-PCV is a large community so the thinking probably was that 3 docking stations were needed to service our biking needs. Perhaps we can let a month or so go by before demanding that we add or subtract from that number, so that it can be assessed how many ST_PCVers are using them and if we can get by with more, less, or the same.
As for why bikes probably take precedence over parking spaces in the minds of transportation officials, numbers alone could account for that: A hundred or so bikes vs ten or so parking spaces. Do the math.
Then there's the fact that the city is not paying for the bike program, that it probably cuts down on people using public transport and cabs. It makes sense to me, and I'm not someone who would ever ride a bike on a NYC street.
I read on the TA facebook that a lot of squirrels and rats are being poisoned and that dogs are getting sick too. I hope management will reconsider putting down poison for the rats (not that I like rats) because apart from harming squirrels and dogs, it also kills the hawks and falcons which have long made their homes in our community. They are natural predators of pigeons, rats and squirrels, so let them do their job and keep the poison away!
I don't know but the last time I checked cars CAN'T park on the sidewalks or in parks, the bikes could. There is no justification for taking out all those parking spots. Period!

The CitiBike program will fail when the upkeep on the rack and bikes far outstrips the revenues they take in. People will get fed up with flat tires, abused bikes and docking stations that just don't work. Eventually the sponsors will get tired of paying up to keep it going.
Unfortunately, lots of people are going to be discommoded in the process as this thing grinds to a halt.

I am 100% opposed to Citi Bikes taking parking spaces but I 100% support the idea and the bikes themselves. I wish riders were more vigilant and law abiding but I think it's a good idea and will continue to be a success. I just wish they would put the bikes on the islands or parks or other empty spaces or wide sidewalks or someplace without stealing MORE parking spots from drivers. Just a couple of years ago a woman was beaten into a coma and now suffers brain damage and a man is in prison all over the lack of parking spaces. So CB6 and the DOT, in their infinite stupidity, take more spots away. Go figure!

I think the widely reported success of Citibikes is exaggerated. I see many full docking stations and, although there are a lot of bike riders, they seem to be mostly using their own bikes. Also, as a year round scooter commuter, I know that bike usage not surprisingly decreases dramatically when the weather gets colder. I think more walking, biking, scooting is great but Bloomberg wants middle and lower income people to give up their cars and I quite resent being told by non New Yorkers like Bloomberg and other newcomers that we shouldn't drive. (I live in Stuy and my elderly parents live in Chelsea. I bring pots of food to them each week and I will use my car to do so for as long as they live. I am quite the wily parking expert so deal with it Bloomberg and ilk. The car stays. I am a lifelong Manhattanite and I will outlast you. Just an example of one driver's story. There are many more.)

OK besides the fact that this is a ridiculous statement if the goal of the program is to reduce car traffic the program will be a huge failure. No one is going to sell their car because of the bikes. Only now there will be increased congestion and more accidents. A side benefit is more pollution as a trip across town that used to take 20 minutes now takes 30 or more. Multiply that by millions....not to mention since parking takes so much longer you can thank Mayor Moneybags for all the fumes all of us circling and circling Stuy town create.
We should never, ever elect a billionaire, out-of-towner mayor. Not that Bloomberg was legally elected; his purchase of his third illegal election was the quid pro quo deal he made with Quinn. Such a person has no empathy or understanding of the real New Yorkers who he is supposed to actually SERVE, not dictate to or control. The tenure of Bloomberg has done so much harm to the City that probably cannot be reversed now. Quinn will just be a continuation of that trend. I can't wait for this turd to be eliminated (pun intended) and the bowl flushed.
