Well, at least we have a home...for now

Many of these are young white junkies and are NOT the fault of DeBlasio. They are, for the most part, not even from New York. Mother cops should kick their asses.

11:25 AM poster here. I didn't mean to say "Mother cops"!!! I don't know what happens with this predictive text nonsense!

Btw, I'm not advocating police brutality in any way shape or form. I just think these kids should not be tolerated because they are "homeless" by choice and will move back to Santa Monica when the weather cools down. They choose a lifestyle of homelessness and begging which is a very different situation than those who are really unfortunate and have mental problems or have been displaced by gentrification and scumbag landlords.

Anyone old enough to remember the "shopping bag ladies?" I wonder what happened to them? All died off, I guess. They really were pathetic. Don't have much sympathy for these young, able-bodied beggars. I think it's a lifestyle they choose.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Not to pile on, but I instinctively distrust any beggar who states he is a veteran. All veterans should have proof of service on them, a VA card, as I do. If one needs emergency medical help that VA card is very valuable. "Veterans" who do not have these cards are probably not veterans, but just trying to garner sympathy...and cash.

I am not a proponent of the nomad lifestylers who beg for handouts, but a few of them do take on menial work and odd jobs instead of begging. The lifestyle is strange but some say they came from bad homes with no other choice and others are resisting the "old boys club" corporate mentality that is wreaking more havoc on us all then the crusties are. If I had to chose between living with crusties on the benches or old boys club Langone/Cuomo/Garodnick..I will give the benches to the crusties before I give Langone a seat in PCV. And I agree with an earlier comment, I would vote a second term for Mayor De Blasio before I would welcome NYU Langone into our community. Plus I want my MCI refunded with interest for the NYU campus security fraud!

The UK Daily Mail is about on par with the NY Post. I am from the UK and I am familiar with the newspapers there. So, consider the source of this article.

Who knows for how long. On another topic, does anyone know the truth about NYC investment in debt bonds -- Puerto Rico? How invested is our pension$?

UK Telegraph is paper with least credibility these days.
This article seems thoroughly backed up.

“No humanity. No courtesy for human life.”

More on the Manhattan luxury real estate developer who dragged his partially ejected dying "friend" out of his Porsche after he drunkenly crashed into a pole.

That accurately describes the mind of the real estate developers and the politicians who encourage and assist them.

Is Stuy Town buying from Home Depot for the renovation work and can we replace something broken ourselves?

Our homes are going the way of this Daily Mail article by Dan's doing.

If Councilman Garodnick wanted us to be able to protect PCVST he would have kept us informed of everything instead of in the dark on everything while he worked with the REBNY.

There are thousands fewer middle class homes in PCVST, Garodnick's district. That is Dan Garodnick's doing. Time for a new councilperson and a government staffed without Garodnick anywhere.

Taking away our homes is the number one cause of homelessness! Thanks for the article STR. It nails the modern day cause of homelessness. Fewer homes for working class but more investment or money laundering homes for the rich.

RE developers and their enablers on political offices are causing homelessness.

People have no more tolerance for our electeds being part of the problem and part of the solution at the same time. Give back and stop taking money bribes from REBNY and Hedge Funds before you go to Puerto Rico or we won't elect you again.

The studios, offices, bunkers, third party amenity buildings, all construction was planned years ago and kept hidden from residents by Steinberg and Marsh. The entire tenant association board knows all the development plans and has all along.

This old throw back dated picture of Trump Toronto Hotel shows the interim construction look CompassRock Brookfield is doing to PCVST:

https://instagram.com/p/66Pif4yrp7/?taken-by=trumptoronto

This shows what they eventually want to build after they kick out all of the Middle Class residents:

https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x882b34cd4ddb84e9:0x179504fa0089f0f0!2m5!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i100!3m1!7e1!4s//geo1.ggpht.com/cbk?photoid%3D6XpTridzBs1KlCCROBSpGg%26output%3Dphoto%26cb_client%3Dsearch.LOCAL_UNIVERSAL.gps%26minw%3D0%26minh%3D160!5strump+toronto+-+Google+Search&sa=X&ved=0CJkBEKIqMBFqFQoTCN663e7e38cCFYI5PgodtXoN8w

Doesn't matter the name on the front door, it all looks the same and is built by the same few people for the one-percenter and pretenders on corporate company expense accounts.

PCVST is transitioning from a classy NYC working Middle Class community of families with designed buildings of historic, unique architecture and Nature-aligned layout (by an African American woman) to generic transient look-of-any-city new-moneyed trash (designed by white caucasian men with significantly less alignment with wind, trees, nature).

Concrete slabs with trendy fixtures and facades to look "luxury" while littered with online internet ads of desperation to get people here, just shows the failure of short term profit quests. This is not luxury living. My marble bathroom with trendy faucet does not equal luxury.

It is only luxury when it is uncommon. These renovated apartments are common, and lesser luxury then other buildings in the city.

The former PCVST environment equaled luxury. It was uncommon.

When it was a ten year wait list to get in to raise a family in a serene 80acre Tree Park environment aligned with nature - serenity in the middle of the greatest concrete jungle city in the world. That is luxury living.

I live/work in NYC and don't need a "source" to confirm the homeless explosion and increasingly aggressive panhandling taking place here. Homeless are roaming around and sleeping on benches inside STPCV. A senior resident was recently punched out after walking past and apparently disturbing a homeless vagrant lounged on a bench.

No doubt, there's a loud, wide open, GOP-FOX campaign (less loudly aided and abetted by DEM's Cuomo and Garodnick) taking Mayor de Blasio down. But the Mayor's homeless crisis denials are reminiscent of our oblivious President "heck of a job Brownie" Bush ignoring the disaster taking place in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

No one is safe from the evil REBNY monstrosity. No one.

““Most co-ops have in their bylaws a provision that if you own a supermajority, usually 75 percent of the shares, you can collapse the cooperative,” said Gary M. Rosenberg, the founding partner of the law firm Rosenberg & Estis. “Former shareholders then revert to either rent-stabilized tenants or market-rate tenants, in which case they could be evicted.” In most cases, shareholders retain their shares, which results in an eventual payout once the developer sells the building. (And if those shareholders have mortgages, the proceeds from the sale are used to pay off the loans.) But that doesn’t help those like Mr. Selbert, who just want to stay put.

“Every inch of Manhattan real estate is in play, even the once-sacred co-ops,” said Adam Leitman Bailey, a lawyer who represents Mr. Selbert.

New REBNY tactic buying coop shares under false pretense to procure super majority status enabling hostile takeover collapsing coop to exploit condo conversion and unused development rights.

How the Co-op Crumbles

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/06/realestate/converting-small-new-york-city-co-op-buildings-into-condos.html?&moduleDetail=section-news-0&action=click&contentCollection=Real%20Estate&region=Footer&module=MoreInSection&version=WhatsNext&contentID=WhatsNext&pgtype=article

"Co-op apartment buildings like Mr. Selbert’s were once considered impervious to the condominium craze that is sweeping New York City. But with the ever-increasing demand for residential real estate, record high land prices and few available development sites, small co-ops are emerging as one of the few remaining creative development options — albeit a complicated and costly one.

Because of the structure of most co-ops, once developers or investors acquire a “supermajority” of apartments in a building, they can maneuver to evict any holdouts.

The buildings most at risk of being caught in the cross hairs are in popular neighborhoods, have unused air rights or lucrative retail spaces on the ground floor and have just a handful of apartments."

-----

REBNY is just experimenting with small coop targets right now. Taking down larger coops is the next logical prey after Speyer bagged the PCVST white elephant.

Both large and small coop owners have numerous tools available to prevent internal, sneak attack takeovers and defend themselves as a group against hostile REBNY predators. PCVST residents don't have those tools. They get taken for a photo-op bus ride to Albany begging Cuomo to protect them from the same billionaires showering money on him to maintain their RS protections on a death march.

No matter, Garodnick-TA-Brookfield skip the coop owner swallowing step upfront by immediately confiscating our opportunities to own the entire PCVST complex without an unnecessary partner, much less a major REBNY predator and $25 million Speyer investor-secret Speyer partner, as well as our individual opportunity to affordably purchase our individual homes.

There's no need for REBNY predators to steer clear of our potential, formidable PCVST Owner's Association comprised and controlled by an immediate majority of individual owners when they have Garodnick-TA snatching ownership, and the defensive ownership tools that come with it, out from under us without ever telling us what's available within our immediate grasp. Leverage means nothing when the group holding it is kept misinformed about leverage they hold by their elected representatives giving it all away to a hostile predator.

And Mayor de Blasio is standing there watching it happen and doing nothing about it.

Cuomo pulled the rug from under many people who were just making it by the skin of their teeth by cutting off funding for subsidizing their rents. Bloomberg did nothing to help them. DeBlasio inherited this homeless problem; he didn't create it.

I think DeB is under attack from all directions. That miserable Speaker has her own agenda and is probably hoping to replace DeB and he has the slithery slithereens in the form of Garodnick and Stringer plotting and planning from their vipers nest, as well as the Ultimate Evil, Cuomo, doing what he does.

Very well said. You basically made the post that I was going to make. How the frig is it relevant if Daily Mail is on par with the Post (assuming it's true)? As if anyone needs an article to see the obvious. Is the Daily Mail doctoring the pictures? Is that your contention?

I noticed it too as Ive been here for 20 plus years. More homeless than usual.

Boy is that a lot of blame game above. DeBlasio is now in charge. Instead of dealing with needed issues. His first target was the horse carriages, not so good Bill! Next up the was lowering the speed limit, no real traffic, people are still dying and we get traffic 24/7.
How can the police deal with the homeless and other small crimes when Billy DeBlasio just rewarded the Gardener family millions.

I live and work in NYC too, but the only "explosion" I've noticed is the presence on almost every midtown block of the fairly young, seemingly able-bodied and minded, sign bearing beggars.

These are not the classic, mentally ill street roamers that really need help. Most of those avoid contact and try to go unnoticed, setting up camp in out of the way spots, not in front of H&M. I doubt that any of these beggars with the cardboard signs have ever seen the inside of a shelter. I pretty much equate them with the "costumed characters" that currently plague Times Square, they are poor opportunists hoping to make an easy buck off the tourists.

I often go for a walk early in the morning . There had been a significant increase in the number of homeless sleeping or hanging out in our neighborhood and the East Village this year. Also this is the first year since the David Dinkins administration that I regularly encounter squeegee people when driving in Manhattan

No, but the Daily Mail is a right-wing sensationalist rag. They should look at what is in their own back yard. Homeless people litter the landscape in London and there are plenty of panhandlers on the streets and on the tube trains. New York and London have many of the same ills: overdevelopment; gentrification and displacement of low income and middle class people and a lot of poverty. It thrives on tourists, but Londoners avoid the tourist traps, just like New Yorkers do. London has also lost much of its charm and character due to ugly highrises funded by hedge funds and purpose-built for the foreign oligarchs to launder their money. Btw, I was born and raised there and go back to visit family very frequently, so I do know something of what I speak.

Atomic Man, I think these are the "crusties" that you are referring to. Homeless seasonal junkies. They winter in warmer climes so they should be gone soon.

Good sir, please let's stay focused. The gist of this thread, I think, is the explosion of homelessness in NYC, not London, Darfur, Mumbai, or Vienna. I would never question whether or not you know of what you speak as I do not know you, but I fail to see the connection between the accuracy of the Daily Mail article and your knowledge of homelessness in London. You dismissed the article simply based on the periodical it was printed in with no regard to whether or not the substance was accurate.

Something that is making itself very much at home here is the infestation of bed bugs. I was in the laundry the other night and some neighbors from the building that shares the laundry room with us were putting loads of linens and clothes in the dryers and then putting them in huge plastic bags and sealing them up. Turns out they have bed bugs and they think that three floors of their building are affected. I noticed that this is not listed on the TA bed bug registry, but it is such a performance posting anything on that website and as I am not the one with the plague, I probably shouldn't post somebody's else's address. These are young people who share a converted one-bedroom (a couple and a single roommate) and pay an arm and a leg for that cramped space. They said that management was less than sympathetic about all the costs involved in getting rid of the bugs. Today, I see a mattress and box spring outside my building, loosely wrapped and with big round black spots drawn on the wrapping. I think that means they are infested.

Thank you Compass Rock for allowing short term rentals, revolving roommates and AirBnB to bring us all the disruption, lack of security and bed bugs to what was once a very safe and decent place to live. We may not be homeless, but our homes have been ruined by these greedy, incompetent bastards.

Anonymous said...

There is a mattress and a box spring parked outside the Terrace Level door of my building. They are wrapped (in torn wrapping) and have a big black dot on them which is the indication that they are bed bug infested. They've been there since yesterday and the bugs are probably roaming all over the place. If there is something good about this situation, it is that it advertises to the world that we are infested and may deter people from renting here. I would take a photograph of it and put it on Yelp, but Yelp doesn't allow photographs.

isn't there a bedbug register in the city that you should post if you have them. Not very responsible if you don't.

Anonymous said...

9/08 @ 4:25, I believe the black dot indicates that it was "inspected" by one of CW's crack bedbug sleuths. That is, a porter with a flashlight and a can of spray paint.

You might recall they used to mark them 'OK', but that changed soon after suckers, er... I mean prospective market rate renters, began noticing the marked mattresses piled at the curb and started asking questions.

Here's the gist of what we learned (new tenants) a little too late. ASK FOR THE LEASE and be prepared to walk away. Ask for the two numbers that show the lower amount they attract you with and the "other" number. Be prepared to pay a renewal amount closer to the "other" number. GET THE WORD OUT TO NEW TENANTS, Students and whomever. This place is bogus, cheating , lying to tenants.

Anonymous said...

9 16 pm - Best then to take a two year lease and leave after that? Ours is a mess meaning one charge after another . we are also sorry we moved here.

Yes at least we have a home for now and the homelessness is a problem and Controller Stringer complained and rejected city shelters because they had no certificate of occupancy and other violations. Yet when it came to PCVST having falsified certificates of occupancy Stringer was just fine with that, and fire hazard chopped apartments Stringer was just fine with that even endorsing it in support of his little buddy Garodnick and his big bad boss Cuomo. But now Stringer whines about these things to block people on the streets from having a bed in a shelter. If it really is a concern for Stringer he would fix the paperwork instead of being a hypocritical big whining baby hall monitor pointing the finger to make the Mayor look bad as a precursory to prop himself up for the job of the next Mayor.

Anonymous said...

Stringer is cartoonishly odious. When he gets mad and stamps his little feet I almost expect his mother to appear and stick a pacifier into his lisping froggy mouth.
