New York City Is Closed Until Further Notice

Sorry, but residents can suck it up, of course.

Meanwhile:

"Hey, lady, at least it's nicely arranged for you to go through."

"What's your problem? Always complaining! What's wrong with it, anyway?"

2:07 PM. I only saw cats. I don't believe they have dogs for adoption from that truck.

This morning, I spoke to a few people complaining about the motorized bikes, and other bikes, mulling around Ess-a-Bagel. It seems we are on the same page, but will Management take this seriously enough to do something proactive about the problem. Ess-a-Bagel is a tenant.

Obviously, Ess-a-Bagel should do something about it first, before others get involved.

Also another tenant (Hane) has used motorized bicycles, too, but not as much as Ess-a-Bagel.

And why are these legal anyway? The motorized mechanism has to be "on" for it to be a violation.

too many dogs and cats. We cannot have carpets with all the animals living in our stuytown & peter cooper rentals. YukKy.

Was in the elevator last night with 2 young NYU co-eds, and it appeared they were dressed as strippers for Halloween. Had my headphones in, so they probably didn’t think that I was listening, because t don’t think they would have cared either way.

Girl 1 (non-tenant): why are your elevators so ghetto?
Girl 2 (tenant): Someone is moving in or out, so they have the pads up. People are always moving out of here.
Girl 1: Wow, you don’t have a service elevator for that? Your parents are loaded, why do they keep putting you in these old buildings?
Girl 2: I know, I know. they saw old people and families, and they were sold. They assumed I would be safe. Little did they know that there is no NYPD presence, just campus cops with no guns.

As the strippers got off the elevator, I wished them a good night, to which they laughed.

Just received an MCI for Hot water heater. Soon I will not be able to afford my rent here and have to move. I really hate this place!

McDonalds food dropped all over the elevator very late last night, yesterday. 'Pig students' most likely. Luxury Living alright. Keep on renting to wrong people, and this is what you get.
You can advertise all you want to get more of the same in here. Slumlord!

Management cares, but doesn't care. The rental of apartments is what they are really concerned about. I saw an outside poster(in PCV) for "studio" apartments here. Yes, studio apartments. That's what Management cares about. Selling. As long as Management is selling and "upgrading" the apartments, Blackstone is happy. The noise, the golf carts running around, the many dogs, etc.: Management doesn't really care. You can suck it up, tenants. And some tenants even believe that this is the best place to live. A "secret." Check the TA Facebook.

Management is tickled pink with the situation here. They churn apartments at higher and higher rents while we are plagued with a student and transient demo which are packed into the apartments. Some if the tenants here look homeless and seedy and I keep seeing new ones in my building every day. They move in and out like flies. Every night on my way home I see another u haul with crap moving out.

I do think that some of these families I see around are short term tourists. I believe that they are offering short term two or three month leases. I see different ones in my building all of the time and they speak other languages.

The TA fighting MCI’s is the longest running joke on this property!! If they “win,” it’s usually pennies. The pennies they win don’t equal their $50 membership fee, so they are pointless.

I’d like concrete data on the success rates as well, with the amounts broken down. Not holding my breath.

The Tenants Association is truly a corrupt organization.
Until they release membership info ( no more than a 100 or so dues paying "suckers" ) and budgetary data ( where did the money go from the Roberts settlement? ), they are suspect to say the least.
Where is District Attorney Cyrus Vance?
An investigation is surely warranted!

emmmmm I'm not sure if you're aware of this but underground aquifers can easily infiltrate one another and the water will become mixed. So the fact that "most of the toxic carcinogenic chemicals are in PCV" means nothing. They can spread, underground, and most likely have already done so, especially if they are so close to the surface as 5 ft.
With carcinogens polluting the groundwater, you'd want to test every month and compare levels of every toxin. ARe they doing that? Are they posting results to a website that is publicly accessible?
What does that mean, carcinogens are not in the drinking water? It means the chemicals are still in water that is used by blackstone. Is this the water they use to irrigate? that spray gets into the air and the vapor of the carcinogens gets into your lungs. EDUCATE YOURSELF.
Maybe the TA could ask these questions? It is hardly in ConEd's or blackstones interest to be transparent about this. and they will not be, unless SOMEONE FORCES THEM TO BE.

Anonymous said...

God, I wish the people above me would move out. who are these people who move in and out every 5 months??? where can I get some?

please check out yelp for description of the new flex apartments which are required to have a window in that dividing wall.
Therefore, all the old walls in the flex apartments--I would assume those were found to be illegal and blackstone is quietly trying to pretend they don't exist.
People, be aware if you live under a flex apartment--it cannot be rented as the higher bdrm. listing unless it has the new type of wall with a window in it. which, :) is clearly not preferred by the demographic blackstone wants to rent to

A worker with a giant white pick up truck involved with construction of ice rink has routinely parked illegally in the 20th street loop for weeks and around 5am noisily and obnoxiously tinkers with every tool and part of his truck setting off the alarm multiple times. Security seems to ignore this recurring disruption. These ice rink workers should not be allowed to turn the place where people pay plenty to reside into their truck workshop.

@November 1, 2017 at 2:35 PM

Maybe you should "EDUCATE YOURSELF"

I am sick and tired of people who have no idea how things work in this world making inane statements as if they were scientists. Maybe where you come from the water came from a well on your property, but your drinking water does not come from under your building, nor does the water that comes out of the sprinklers.

The MGP sites were here before PCVST and due to that everyone who has ever lived here has died from exposure to the toxic chemicals that sit below the property. Average lifespan is about 5 years from moving in.

It is in ConEd's interest to be transparent about this. They are spending Billions of dollars (with a capital B) on this and passing every last cent on to the people who use electricity (plus a profit margin). Hysterical people like you just drive their income up. Their shareholders thank you.

Anonymous said...

The only thing the TA is useful for at this point is having a Facebook page. Even that is questionable, as there are the same group of people always commenting (and I give them all kudos!), but most people are afraid to comment because of fear of retribution from management.

I also absolutely hate the recent push by the TA to get people to become paying members. It is an absolute desperate plea by a desperate group.

It's about time Blackstone was brought to justice for being a slumlord and violating the Tenement Laws by cramming more bodies into an apartment than the law allows and creating such fire hazards by its greed. Of course, our REBNY-owned pols will not do anything about this.

Anonymous said...

@November 2, 2017 at 8:53 AM

The point is not regarding water piped from the reservoir, you idiot, it is regarding infiltration of the ground water into the basements (which is to be expected) and into the plumbing.
Most of the water pipes in NYC have holes in them. Did you know that? its not generally a problem because usually there is water running through the pipe, and the water keeps everything outside the pipe, outside the pipe.
The constant excavations and "improvements" and general f@ckery here with the ground indicates a potential for depressurized water pipes. Those pipes, as I said, have rusted through in places. Now they can be infiltrated by the contaminated ground water/soil.
you are clearly no scientist, nor do you have any knowledge of NYC infrastructure, engineering, or basic physical principles. You might check out Hydrostatics for Dummies, if you want a starting point to EDUCATE YOURSELF.

Anonymous said...

"It is in ConEd's interest to be transparent about this. They are spending Billions of dollars (with a capital B)"
LOL.
it is not in anyone's interest to be transparent about a remediation/clean up site. Corporations generally do the minimum they can get away with, and call it done, with chemicals still in place. the only people who benefit are the lawyers.
these companies just love people like you who are lapping up every word they say. critical thinking skills, y'all . you should try some.
by the way they are "voluntarily" undertaking this bc if they didn't do it "voluntarily," they would be forced to do it. not really so voluntary.

I never drink the water here in the Sty. I only cook with filtered (Brita) water and hope the contaminants are boiled out. I stopped drinking the water shortly after I moved in her (30 years ago) because it was always an off-color and smelled bad. There are times when I wonder how safe it is for bathing! Sometimes the hot water comes through brown. So much for luxury. Wish I could afford to move to somewhere else in the City. I'd be gone in a flash. Moving out of town is not an option because my family, friends, doctors, etc are all here and they are what keep me alive!

"The overcharges via the rent and "new" rooms."

That is what the TA is for. They are the ones to demand a room count and a ruling on the added rooms. That is not for tenants to take on.

Doesn't the TA have lawyers for these things? Can't they use the Roberts money for exactly this type of thing to benefit tenants? What else would they use the Roberts money for but to challenge the landlord on the number of rooms?

Anonymous said...

The TA is asking for people to join or renew their dues because they say that fighting the MCIs costs money. How about they open their books? How about they tackle Management about the additional rooms that have been added to the carved-up flex apartments? If a 1-BR becomes a 2-BR then they should pay the MCI for the extra room. I know they are already being robbed of daylight, space and dignity, but that is their problem. Management is charging them massive rent and raking in profit from these so-called flex apartments that are overstuffed with bodies, but so long as people are willing to rent them and stupid parents are willing to pay for their college kids to live in such conditions, they should be charged the MCI for the extra "room."

There really needs to be a thorough investigation into Management's practices of over-stuffing apartments with students and making real tenants pay for the strain on the infrastructure as well as having QOL diminished.

Another thing, I heard lots of screams outside last night/early this morning and some of them sounded like something very nasty was going on. If "PS" was still Security and patrolled in those little 3-wheeled vehicles that they used to patrol in, we would all be a lot safer, especially the drunk kids who live here and whatever garbage stalks them home. Too bad Management cut Security to the bone and gave us a hefty MCI for Security we no longer have. Too bad the TA didn't put up a real fight about this.

I think the TA should just disband and go away. It's an in-bed-with-management/politician-hustling enterprise at this point.

Anonymous said...

The TA received tens of thousands of dollars from the Roberts settlement. More than enough to have a legal team fight for the tenants without charging their measly $50 membership fee. If they were serious about helping out tenants, they would waive the membership fees for a year and use the Roberts money to try and get some serious action undertaken. Then maybe they could rebuild trust in the eyes of the tenants. I assume they will just continue to be shady and assume we will forget that they were handed that gift.

And Powers is still a board member. Corrupt is synonymous with the PCVST TA.

November 4, 2017 at 4:05 PM

Are you yelling at tenants or the TA? A tenant would have to be nuts to take on Tishman Speyer, Blackrock or Blackstone for fraud. That is why there is a G.D. TA!!

Anonymous said...

$50 is a lot to a senior, even one not on SCRIE. Some of us are not on SCRIE because we have an income that is very, very slightly above the maximum that SCRIE allows. An extra $1,000 per year, for instance, doesn't make us affluent and the rents and MCIs keep rising. Seniors (and disabled) on fixed incomes live in a very precarious financial situation these days as rents and the general costs of food, medicine, etc. continue to rise. I can do better for myself with $50 than the TA can. The TA has done nothing that has really benefited me. A couple of dollars back for MCI charges, maybe. Big deal! The MCI charges for things like Security, intercom, water, etc., are very high and the sad thing is that the water is dirty, we have no real Security and the intercoms were a lot cheaper and more convenient when we had them connected to a landline phone. Not everybody lives on a cell phone and we should all have to pay through the nose because the dorm and transient crowd don't want to maintain a landline phone.

Do It Differently said...

I respectfully disagree with the person who thinks we'd be "nuts" to take on any of the sick, greedy, rotten "owners" of our home.

If we united, planned and executed actions and were steadfast, there would be some response. It might take a long time and much patience. We'd be frustrated, disgusted, angered and so on. But if we made it clear to Blackstone (I know - tens or hundreds of billions of dollars, hundreds of insanely expensive legal teams, bought politicians, bought media, bought heavy-duty and possibly scary security goons of all stripes, etc., etc.) very loudly, very publicly, in united numbers, for a very long time: THEY ARE NOT ENTITLED TO DESTROY OUR HOMES, SAFETY, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH AND WE WILL STOP THEM . . .

then, eventually, there would be some relief. It is true that there is strength in numbers and it is true that tenacity and steadfast determination can prevail against the most threatening situations.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you in theory, 9:11 PM, but in practice it is very hard. I am a senior (very healthy Thank God) who has lived here for almost 40 years. I'm retired and on a fixed income and can't afford to move. I detest the way we are being treated by the avaricious scum that has owned the property since the sale to TS. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter whether it's TS, CWC, Blackstone or Satan because they are all the same and all are intertwined. We have no politicians on our side because they are all corrupt, pay-to-play dirtbags. I will not be voting on Tuesday because I don't really care who gets in or who gets out, the simple reason being that REBNY owns them all.

All the politicians who are up for election or re-election are lying, dishonest, self-serving scum and all of these corporate landlords are one big network of financially incestuous, money-laundering filth. This is just the bare-faced facts of life in this country. Not much better in many other countries, but I'm not concerned about them. I just know that Democracy is dead (RIP) and we are living under a kleptocratic oligarchy and there are no decent and honest players. The TA can go to hell as far as I'm concerned because it is part of the disease and not part of the cure. Just look at the Golden Boy (TA Board member) who they are pushing and ask yourself if this is an organization that is to be trusted. Candidates that have any moral fiber and integrity are stomped to death (e.g. Zephyr Teachout) by the jackboots of corruption that we are stuck with. I think we should resign ourselves to the reality that elections are a sham, the TA is a sham and we have no way of changing the status quo.

Anonymous said...

The TA does not exist anymore as an independent entity. It is an arm of Blackstone. I realized that when I was told to e-mail Hayduk when I contacted them with an issue . Interesting that they are finally having a meeting in a couple of weeks.Their meetings showcasing the politicos who sold us out are distasteful. Full of hot air and denial. They probably will be saying farewell to Garodnick who had idly stood by as this community has become a student dump.

Our verdict on de Blasio: Why the News withholds its mayoral endorsement

You have requested a seal of approval on your upcoming, new four-year lease on the public trust. Regrettably, we are compelled to deny your application based on an exhaustive review of your first term.

The disqualifying factors include a persistent record of governing ideology-first, overpromising epochal transformation and blatantly infecting City Hall with the worst pay-to-play culture since the heyday of Democratic Party bossism.

In a meeting with this Editorial Board last month, you went out of your way to signal that reckoning with bitter failures has made you a better mayor. Lessons learned with the battle scars to prove it, etc., etc., etc.

...

But you, Mr. de Blasio, are the one who has already been granted the public trust, and asks approval for an extension.

Answer: no.

The problem with a TA in this development is that it is no longer a community, and people don’t care. PCVST is now made up of the following 3 groups:

1) Long timers who have been around long enough to see what the TA has become, and don’t want to be a part of this corrupt group. This group makes up most members of the current TA, but will continue to decrease as people move out, or unfortunately pass away.

2) Families and working professionals who want to live here long term, but get forced out by astronomical rents. They work crazy hours just to afford to live here, so don’t have time to devote to being a part of the TA.

3) Students - hahahaha!! This soon to be majority of the population has no interest whatsoever in being a part of the TA. They are gone after 1-2 years. The TA and Dan have allowed these groups to take over this community with no fight whatsoever.

Like others before have said, I would like for the TA to open their books and be transparent. Otherwise they will continue to be shady and corrupt, a group in bed with politicians.

Speaking of public figures, I dissed the man himself, Keith Powers, as he and his people were all over the loop exit. In fact, they were in Stuy Town territory, and not much space to walk by, as Powers was stationed on one side of the walkway, and his helper on the other. We are talking about one area of the walkway, the same path and not across the street, though he moved after I said something not too complimentary.

He and his people are very aggressive. I've never seen anything like it, and I've been living here for decades. Worse than a presidential election.

He and his people don't care what Management says. That's what all the money he stands to make will do. Thanks, Dan.

I am the person who wrote on the 4th of November at 9:11 p.m. urging us to unite and fight them.

A class action lawsuit was not precisely what I had in mind.

I meant actions along the following lines: non-stop demonstrations in front of the Blackstone building on Park Avenue; hundreds of telephone calls to their offices (we get the names of the depraved women and men directly involved with Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper); barraging the media (corrupt though they may) be with daily and weekly letters, e-mails, faxes, phonecalls, etc.

DEMONSTRATIONS BY RESIDENTS WHO PROTEST/PICKET INSIDE THE DEVELOPMENT ITSELF.

Cadres of tenants confronting targeted idiots and destroyers of peace and quiet, be they "Management," contractors/subcontractors, our dearly beloved neighbors who behave like human garbage, and everyone else we choose for schooling. NOT ONCE, NOT SPORADICALLY, BUT FREQUENTLY AND DAILY.

You get my drift. I'm sure people can come up with many more ACTIONS we can take to change the hellish and worsening conditions under which we are living.

From Albany to Tammany Hall, the billionaires own each and every politician and they want us off the property, off Manhattan, out of sight and out of mind and they will use every dirty trick in their corrupt tool box to develop this property into a sports entertainment resort playground with a super yacht dock. How stupid do they think we are with their lies about the dock being for commuters? Or the second ave subway being for working people commuting to and from work? The developer's investors insisted on nearby luxury transportation outlets so the politicians lied to the public saying the 14th street station and the second avenue subway and the ferry dock are for the people but the press saw through the second avenue subway lies. Everyday we have to fight just to exist. Liars, thieves, crooks all of them. Why not just come out with the truth already? We already know but still they lie to us and expect us to keep believing the lies if they keep repeating them. They probably don't know how to tell the truth never having done it before. They really are a sad, pathetic bunch of REBNY owned money loving crooked greedy shuysters.

De Blasio donor Jona Rechnitz stopped getting illegal hotel fines once he shelled out to the mayor

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/city-stopped-fining-blaz-donor-jona-rechnitz-illegal-hotel-article-1.3611363

So that is how it is done. Landlords pay off the Mayors Office of Criminal Justice to get away with running Airbnb hotels. This place runs hundreds of hotels every weekend and even installed a concierge business out in the open for the hotels.

The Mayors then cozy pal gave the Mayor $102,000 for the Mayors Long Island Democrat money funneling effort to Adrienne Espositos race that was rejected by the Suffolk Democratic Committee because it sounded illegal.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/long-island-dem-rejected-donation-illegal-article-1.2618337

The Mayors Office of Criminal Justice can be and is bought-off by landlords running Airbnb. The Mayors Suffolk County candidate lost. Now the Mayor is name calling instead of using facts to discredit the testimony of his once pal who gave him $102,000 making it obvious something stinks rotten. The Mayors Office of Criminal Justice was started by Bloomberg. It is the Mayors own little police department used to further the Mayors wishes. NYC does not need the Mayor to have his own little private police department especially when the Mayor uses it to garner self-serving national platform headlines to further his career while letting landlords run hotels wherever they want.

This article is detailed in how the Mayor and his Office of Criminal Justice are failing deliberately to hold accountable landlords for illegal hotels.

The hotels are making it unsafe here.

BEWARE BEWARE!!

Powers has taken over 1st Ave. He and Danny boy are currently on 16th and first harassing everyone walking into the property. His minions are on every other corner.

You’ve been warned!

Lucky for them, I'm in home right now; otherwise, I'd have a thing or two to say to both.

The Starbucks on 23 St. A couple of the Powers people were inside, yes, inside, with their brochures. They were not buying anything. They left before I could approach them and say a thing or two. I have never seen anything like this!

I assume Powers will win. He is, after all, endorsed by Danny boy, and he is spending a ton of money to get that City Council position. But don't worry. This blog will be there for him.

If he is a shoe-in then why the desperate barrage? Something is up with these shenanigans. Cover up? Of something within the city council that the previous councilman does not want this community to know about? Something is up with these desperate democrats aggressively pushing their endorsed candidate into office and it stinks of rotten.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Even a shoe-in has to try hard, certainly the first time.

When’s the next REBNY gala? That’s when Powers officially starts selling out the community where his family and friends live.

I have no doubt STR will be ready with the posts when that time comes.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Wasn't Powers a lobbyist for one of the big boys of the REBNY?

Loved getting bombarded by 5 Powers people on my way to vote and another 3 just after voting. The number of people he has out on the street are probably enough to win him the election, although I’m sure some people have been turned off by his campaign that they voted for someone else. I’m one of those people.

Can’t wait till he turns his back on all those who voted and worked for him, like Danny boy.

I've spoken to a lot of people who have told me that they are not voting for Powers because they sick and tired of seeing his face! His posters and campaign material are everywhere and his campaign workers are as pushy and aggressive as he is. There is definitely something fishy about him and the fact that he is a TA board member and a pal of Deadly Dan makes me all the more suspicious. There is some status quo that they desperate to maintain and some dirty dealings that they don't want to come to light. I'll probably vote for Honig.

I don't think I will cast a vote for Mayor. I detest the King of Corruption and the Bitchy Trumpette. Maybe Sal Albanese would be a good choice, though i don't think he has a prayer. I'm also voting NO on the Con Con because I don't want to see the millionaire and blilionaire pals of Cuomo dismantling what little is good and installing even more of what is bad.

So do we finally get a resignation from Powers for the TA board? There is no way that there isn’t a major conflict of interest by him staying on the board.

Well, Warren Wilhelm Jr. (aka Bill De Blasio) and Keith Powers won the election yesterday. I hope all of you who voted for them be sure to sit down today and write your check for $50 to the TA.

1. Despite pledging “more transparency in government” during his 2013 campaign, de Blasio had to be sued by The Post and NY1 to cough up his e-mails with political advisers who he claimed were “agents of the city.”

2. The mayor has since refused to release records of his telephone calls with Rechnitz.

3. Tuesday’s voter turnout was around the record low set in 2013, when 24 percent of registered voters went to the polls.

According to the press fewer people voted this year than in his first term election year and fewer then his predecessor. Frankly, fed up with the failures and lies in his first term, the majority of voting New York City did not vote for his second term. But we all have to hold our noses to deal with the stink for 4 more years of corruption.

Powers claims he has "new ideas." Let's hear them. I'm tired of the same old, same old.

It makes you want to bang your head against the wall in disbelief. Peter Cooper Village StuyTown has a former lobbyist for Trump on the TA Board and as a City Council representative to continue in the same vein decline of the community as the 2006 to 2017 City Council representative took the property and community members past and present. You think it is bad now? It will go from bad to worse. All politicians campaign on claims of new ideas. Remember this guy was given a spot on the TA board so he could use that as a resume cred instead of his real last job held and it was not until this blog, and not him or the TA board who told the community the truth that his actual last job became known to the community. This blog is the only place giving this community any truth.

Well, we have a lobbyist for the REBNY as our City Council person. Makes things a bit more clear. Meanwhile, the latest news is that we (the complex) will be "used" and publicized for solar panels on top of our roofs. All well and good, but let me ask if there are any health concerns--or noise concerns while these panels are going to be put up. This is what the TA should be interested in, pronto.

The problem today is that way too many people are blinded by party allegiance. They will vote for the Democratic or Republican candidates regardless of how corrupt they are. They watch CNN or Fox News and don’t do their own research.

All those people are sheep, and need to start reading a little more than their beloved websites.

This is a migratory path and used to be a highly prized bird watching destination in NYC. Solar panels incinerate birds in flight. Those little puffs of black smoke are birds burning to death from the concentrated beam from the sun. No one in their right mind would put solar panels in a migratory path, you would have to be pretty sick to do that sort of thing. Solar panels are better placed off of the migratory paths.
