Drink Booze and Screw Around - Adults Only at Playground 3

Gumby must be working overtime. Gumby is in Management. (Yes, he is; it's in their job descriptions.) Anyway, just when I thought that Management couldn't be more out of touch, here we have a notation on that costly flyer that came with our current rent bill of "The Village Vampire Ball"! Yes, wine will be served and cocktails (Signature Apple Cider, what's that?) at... Bet you thought it was somewhere in the Lower East Side. No, wrong! Our very own Playground 3! Yes, a playground! Just one step away from Sodom and Gomorrah.

Unbelievable, but believable.

Updated 10/16:

I'm so excited. Adult drinks, hookers (well, you can dress whatever), bad boys.... Did I say "adult drinks"? In a playground, too!

Now Management is advertising all over the place. In front of Five Stuy Cafe:

Of course they will, but a continued string of bad press will make people think twice about renting here. You think mommy and daddy are going to shell out thousands of dollars a month for their college aged child to live in an apartment complex where assaults, rapes, and suicides are in the press every other week???

Sure the process will be slow, but management’s reactivity to security instead of a proactive approach WILL hurt their pocketbook at some point.

Just look at their newest farce, all new security cameras. These cameras won’t do a damned thing to stop crime, but hey, we should all feel better to the fact that they may have the capability to catch the criminal after the deed is done. How many more victims do there have to be they enact some real security measures??

And these are things that will eventually have an impact on rent collection. Lax security = more crime = bad press = less people willing to spend money to live here = not as much rent being collected.

Boy OH Boy, this place must be really bad after seeing all these comments.

Questions:

1. Is the idiotic and illegal "adult" (more like a**hole) outdoor Halloween party going forward tomorrow night?

2. Has Blackstone been granted an ILLEGAL liquor license for it?

3. Was a party originally planned for an indoor venue, but switched to a playground because of numbers of morons who wanted to participate?

4. Was it only by "reservation" from the beginning?

5. WHO were the people able to "reserve?"

6. Is this plainly, as a neighbors insisted to me today, another way to divide up those who live here, once against another?

The grounds here:

I cannot speak for MetLife, for the pollution beneath the soil, or anyone/anything else.

Yet, I believe there are plenty of us here who:

Treasured the peace and quiet and beauty offered by unsullied, pristine grass and trees; and

Found calm and strength by sitting on benches (sitting - not putting their filthy feet on the benches, or spreading their entire carcasses on them) or walking on the paths and communing with the "nature" that was living its life here.

I've previously, and more than once, written: it pains me, in every fibre of my being - physically, neurologically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually - to be subjected to the POLLUTION and POISON and UGLINESS of people here on grass, on "deck chairs," on skateboards, bikes, scooters, motorized ways to drag their lazy asses around (including employees of Blackstone).

To whomever wrote that it's okay for humans to walk on or otherwise abuse the Oval: I respectfully disagree. VISUAL DISTURBANCE AND POLLUTION, AURAL DISTURBANCE AND POLLUTION, DEGRADATION OF TREES, GRASS, OTHER CREATURES.

IT IS 'NOISY' and CHAOTIC, AND UTTERLY UNHEALTHFUL IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE FOR THE COMMOTION OF HUMAN BEHAVIOR TO BE OCCURRING HERE EVERY SINGLE GODDAMNED DAY AND NIGHT.

This toxic, poisonous, HAZARDOUS crap was NOT any kind of norm here. Residents didn't engage in it as a way of life. Sick, depraved, twisted bastards like Blackstone and their minions created and expanded it.

JUST ABOUT EVERY FREAKIN' THING YOU CAN NAME HERE: THOUSANDS OF WORDS, ADVERTISEMENTS, LIES, ACTIONS, INACTIONS, ILLEGAL DEALS WITH DOZENS OR HUNDREDS OF OTHER ASSHOLES (READ: BANKS, POLITICANS, POLICE and probably a whole helluva lot more)IS BLACKSTONE.

And we are not alone. There are most likely more than thousands of people and other creatures - more like millions - subject to their destruction.

I think most of us have the same notion of what these truly rotten and possibly hopeless creatures deserve . . .

"I know for a fact that they try to gain entry the VERY NEXT DAY."

And I know for a fact that if the deceased tenant has a valid lease, and the rent continues to be paid, THEY CANNOT TAKE POSSESSION OF THE APARTMENT.

How do I know ? I consulted my lawyer.

Please don't spread false information that only serves to undermine the well being of people living in ST/PCV. They have enough problems without being subject to fake BS.

" I believe there was a reason MetLife kept everyone off the grass, and it had more to do with what is underneath the soil."

More factless rumor mongering. There were NO manufactured gas plants or storage tanks on the Oval site.

Do some research before spouting your ignorant nonsense. ConED has all the information on the contamination and remediation on their websites.

Zero heat.
Pipes ice cold.
Hey, for $3,800 per month rent who am I to expect a little warmth in my apartment?
Maybe I should bang on the pipes like my grandparents did in their cold water flat generations ago?
Susan, what's that? Oh, just call Rick.

Anyone who pays $4k + to live in essentially "the projects" is a FOOL. Blackstone reels the suckers in with childish "amenities".
And the rubes fall for this???
UNBELIEVABLE!

I write what I see. The Oval area can be very nice. However, there is a downside. I have seen, many times, bicycles speeding around the Oval, and sometimes right by the PS office and sometimes ignoring Management's people at that Thursday outdoor meeting. In the "old days," such riding was against MetLife rules. Anywhere in ST and PCV. Not anymore, except for the Oval. I have seen adults ride skateboards and scooters all over this community. Management seems to welcome this. I have seen dog crap and pee all over the place and its residual. In those "old days," having a dog was forbidden. Noise? I have seen the "growth" of noise in the community big-time. This can be apartment "upgrades," or it can be leaf blowers and carts that are noisy and leave a smell of fuel when they pass by.... Ha! "Golf" carts all over, going this way and that way, and illegally crossing 20th Street. Don't even mention the loops. Aside from used furniture placed there, there are illegal uncovered mattresses. Management doesn't care. Yeah, I have seen this and more--and I'm not searching. All these violations or infringements happen when I go outside, and sometimes inside a building, too. So, yeah, it's a great place to live. And don't forget, you live in New York, so all this is just to be expected. At least that is what we are told now.

Do people actually pay 4, 5, 6 thousand dollars rent to live in Stuyvesant Town?
A friend told me that and I am astounded.
It reminds me of NYCHA buildings, the New York City Housing Authority.
Why would anyone pay those rents?
It flabbergasts me.
Please explain.
Thank you.

I never said that I factually know that there are issues with the ground and soil on the grounds of PCVST. What I do know is that I have lost dozens of friends and parents of friends at very young ages who lived here their entire lives.

There is also no definitive evidence stating that the ground underneath us is safe. Hence the first true study is being done to conclusively show that the deaths of many long-term residents to very similar strains of cancer is not environmentally caused.

I will wait for the drilling results, but in the meantime feel free to let your kids run free on potentially harmful soil. Unfortunately I will go visit a 32 year old friend and lifelong tenant of PCVST with stage 4 cancer, the same exact cancer that killed many lifelong residents before him.

These deaths are not fear mongering, they’re fact. Sure, maybe the grass directly underneath the oval is safe, but maybe it’s not. You play with fire, you could very well get burned.

>>At the end of the day ST/PCV is a COMMUNITY of 8k apartments and 30k people (ish). Not everything is going to be to be everyone's liking. I am one of those yuppies that pays $4k to live here with my kids. They love the playgrounds, sprinklers, Oval events, Appleseeds, etc. Sure there are things I dont like; all the trash on the loops, dog shit left everywhere, etc but nowhere in NYC is perfect. I've lived in 6 different neighborhoods around the city.

You don't like the adults Halloween party? then don't go. you complain that parents like their kids to run around outside on grass vs. sit in a movie theater or museum?? come on.

Clearly this place isn't perfect and honestly think a few calls to the Better Get Baquero type new segments would do a lot of good for pushing mgmt to clean up the loops, the heat issue, the possible water issues, etc. but saying people are committing suicide because of the stytown situation is absurd or suggesting the Oval soil is cancer causing.<<

I'm all about honesty, and if this place is fine for you and your kids, great. That said, the place in not fine for me, though it is not bad at all. But I do have complaints, which you can read about above. I can add a few more, too. That "adults" Halloween party. Well, when I see that promoted (aside from laughing), I think is it legal? Is there a permit required to drink wine at the playground? Then the question becomes more important. How close is the buddy-buddy relationship between our PS force and the 13th police station? And the money? Is this another cheap (sorry) amenity for people who are paying more and more than I am? Of course, it is their money, and they can do what they like, but what other effects does this cause? Questions.

And, sorry to say, some parents do not have parenting skills and just let their kids do anything. I've seen this, too, as I've seen nannies not engaging with these young ones, but engaging with cellphones.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>saying people are committing suicide because of the stytown situation is absurd<<

Depends. I can see someone committing suicide because they can't take it anymore. And, yes, something (noise, rent, etc.) may be a contributing factor. Do we know for sure?

And those Oval events disturb people living around the Oval in their apartments. They may not want to hear the music and concert noise.

4:45. It is not a bad place. Could be a great place, but it is a deteriorating, neglected property which due to unaffordable rents has been turned into a transient dorm. Management appeases the ever decreasing number of families here with phony “amenities “ such as second rate movies and concerts which are not appropriate in a residential property and infringe on the rights of others. Those same people raving about the events will likely be priced out of their 4500 monthly apartments on a future lease. Important aspects such as garbage disposal and regulations concerning the property are ignored.

Would not be going to that stupid vampire ball. Probably be the cheerleader crowd and or dorm bros enjoying another piece of crap event.

Just saw one of the guys building ice rink smoking a joint less than 20 feet from security. Hope he is not too high to construct rink safely

That is why they cannot fillthe apartments with families and professionals and resort to colleges, transients and city subsidies. My building is half students. Constant turnover. Profitable for them.

Anonymous said...

10:25 Ridiculous isn’t it! They have deals with universities, city, Airbnb type companies, etc to fill apartments. Often 3 or 4 roomies.

"of 8k apartments"

One should have one facts straight before making such a comment.

"the complex has a total of 110 residential buildings, 11,250 apartments"

The number of apartments is a fact. This stat "and more than 25,000 residents." from Wiki is dated, CWC let the cat out of the bag and stated officially that we had a population of at least 30,000. Today, with the student/transient apartments that have more than the legal amount of 3 unrelated adults, STPCV has a population (IMO) of 35,000.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuyvesant_Town%E2%80%93Peter_Cooper_Village

Your comment "You don't like the adults Halloween party? then don't go." is beyond the pale. So typical of the suburban/rube/entitled/non empathy mindset that has taken over this city. I guess you don’t care about NYC alcohol/zoning violations. I guess your next comment will be “if you don’t like noise in the city, move to………….”

Stuy Town is rapidly becoming the "projects".
Keep chortling about the "amenities" as you write out your 4 grand check each month.
That's almost 50 grand a year.
For what???
"Concerts", third rate movies on the Oval which you can watch on Netfix for a buck, "Jazz" at the eColi Five Turd Café?
Suckers, rubes, fools.

Their parents write a check. That's how.
