Blackstone, your landlord, is written about below
and now this:
* * *
Here we go again. Our "landlord," (Blackstone in the person of Rick) has sought to minimize or ignore the incidents that occurred a week ago. There has been no public statement about these incidents even though a senior citizen and another person were assaulted/punched/threatened with violence/whatever by a naked resident who may have had issues. Later, there was the incident where this naked man was out in the Oval. Public Safety and the police appeared. Screaming was heard, etc. Not a word from Management about these incidents for over a week. We have been here before where Management has sought to ignore or minimize what is happening here for the sake of the unaware potential renters ($) that Blackstone hopes will come to this place. Wrong move.Update, 4/30: The two incidents happened on 4/21. Management has been silent, but today there was an email to residents (which I never get, despite telling Resident Services at least twice about my email address). I quote: "Final update on the unfortunate event of last week. The assailant's household has vacated the apartment and terminated the lease. The assailant never returned to the building as requested. Our thoughts remain with those who were involved in this incident."
Only residents of this building got this email. I note the word "final."

Exactly!!! Called yesterday told rep I get poof of heat in the early morning, if I am lucky, then nada rest of the day. She said engineer will adjust heat. Ha! I'm still freezing!
Karma is a bitch.
"But outside, walking around? No thanks, that’s ridiculous, keeping your distance is safe enough."
You sound like someone that most people would want to keep their distance from at the best of times.
>>"But outside, walking around? No thanks, that’s ridiculous, keeping your distance is safe enough."

Why? I don't understand this statement.
"But outside, walking around? No thanks, that’s ridiculous, keeping your distance is safe enough."
So I guess if some jogger come up from behind you and blows right past you with no mask on (which doubles the social distance because of the breathing/exhaling), I guess you are OK with that.
Have a nice day.
Why? I don't understand this statement.
Methinks the author fancies it a clever insult. But ya know, trading barbs anonymously on the internet is like taunting the sharks from behind the glass in the aquarium.
>>So I guess if some jogger come up from behind you and blows right past you with no mask on (which doubles the social distance because of the breathing/exhaling), I guess you are OK with that.<<
The question is not directed at me, but I will answer it, as I've come across such joggers. Now on the street, like 1st Ave, it is going against the current directive. If I were the jogger, I would be very aware that I may be causing concern on such a street and would avoid it. But inside Stuy Town or PCV, there is enough space, possibly, for a jogger or a pedestrian to do "social distancing" if no one is wearing a mask. For me, I do not have to wear or have somewhere nearby a mask if I'm sitting alone on a bench in Stuy Town. I may be understanding the directive wrong, but no one is prevented from doing this, as there is a lot of space, mostly, so social distancing is maintained. Now that does depend on the time of day and the area. The Oval Fountain area is taken up later in the day with a lot of people and kids. I would recommend anyone concerned about the virus, or in a higher risk category (like I am), not to be in that region at that time. Again, there is a lot of space to get a "breather." You don't have to wear a hazmat suit when you go out. You may, depending on your concern, but it is your choice.
I'm sorry to disagree. And at this point, I'm particularly and intensely sorry to be a human being.
I never thought I'd end up disagreeing about a topic such as mask-wearing. Or staying the hell indoors for most of the time.
A native New Yorker, I've ridden buses and subways for more years than some of us have been alive. I've suffered bronchitis and bronchial asthma sometimes for seven months at a time. I've been on 4 medicines at a time for severe bronchial asthma.
Never once though did it occur to me to put on a mask. I've always been careful not to sneeze or cough on other people (or yawn with mouth open, for that matter). But I never once worried about some dope who sneezed and coughed on me on the unreasonably crowded subways.
NOW? I really don't think opinions and personal "feelings" are at all important or valuable here. Goddamn thousands of us have already died prolonged agonizing deaths as the life choked itself out of us!
Is it going to hurt you in any way to WEAR A MASK OUTSIDE OF YOUR HOME??? I, personally, am uncomfortable. I don't like the sensations, the smells of wearing a mask. I wear glasses, so it is more uncomfortable. My glasses fog up, too.
I DO NOT KNOW IF I CAN EITHER TRANSMIT THIS KILLER DISEASE, OR CONTRACT IT.
It doesn't matter. My little, petty, personal opinions DO NOT MATTER.
What does matter is that I take every precaution to protect OTHERS and MYSELF.
Is that a huge, tragically burdensome problem for too many of us??? Seems to be.
This species never should have gotten an opportunity to infest this planet.
May yes, but may no:

I mention the above links because I've noticed a slight burning sensation in my eyes and face when I go outside for a while and come back in. And yesterday, I saw ST workers in almost hazmat suits, with large backpacks of fluid that they were spaying all over the place by the buildings. For sure, they are spraying disinfect.
"But inside Stuy Town or PCV, there is enough space, possibly, for a jogger or a pedestrian to do "social distancing" if no one is wearing a mask. "
Sorry, you don't get it. They come up behind you with no notice in STCPV (it does not matter where you are walking or the space ahead of you) and on the sidewalks everywhere and then they blow by right next to you with no mask. They are assholes. EOS.

I do.
>>My little, petty, personal opinions DO NOT MATTER.<<
Why would you suggest that your opinions are "little, petty"?
One thing the property owners could do to create a little more space in here would be to ban dog walking.
Think of it, 1000, 2000, however many dogs that are here need to be walked around the premises 20-30 minutes or so, three times a day. Tough maintaining proper distancing when you can’t go more than a couple dozen yards without encountering one dog walker after another - they’re all over the place.
How about investing in some newspaper and wee-wee pads, and keeping your pet inside your apartment? After all, it’s everyone’s health at stake right?
But outside, walking around? No thanks, that’s ridiculous, keeping your distance is safe enough. - April 17, 2020 at 7:12 AM
You, sir or madam, are a foolish and dangerous creature, especially because you have no way of knowing if you are a carrier of the coronavirus and therefore potentially lethal to other people. You can bet that at least some of the people you may be encountering outside at close quarters will call you out if you aren’t wearing a mask starting at 8pm on 4/17/20. And bravo to them when they do. We all need to be protected from the ignorance and arrogance of people like you.
I do not know if this "foolish and dangerous creature" was walking "at close quarters" to anyone. Says he, or she, didn't. You say, "ignorance," but I am curious if you can point to the directive put out by the governor that states one must wear a mask the moment one leaves the door.
I am curious if you can point to the directive put out by the governor that states one must wear a mask the moment one leaves the door.
STR, you’re as arrogant and ignorant— and for the same reason as I previously stated — as the foolish and dangerous creature is. At this incredibly perilous moment in time, most people don’t care if you’re “concerned that people seem okay with social control.” If there was ever a time for social control, that time is now. Have you not read any of the MANY accounts of people coming together in defiance of social gathering bans and then DYING BECAUSE THEY DID?
For heaven sake, grow up.
STR -
I am now literally begging you to please err on the side of life itself. At this point, we need everyone to wear masks.
We've all been asked to STAY INDOORS if we do not have to go outside of our homes - and that came some time ago.
Now, we have finally been asked to wear masks, period.
Especially here, in Manhattan, and to further narrow it - in Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, where too many buildings house those with the Coronavirus - we need to all protect each other.
This plague shows no sign of letting up. Or staying gone. We have a horror show, a mounting death toll. And just maybe - doing EVERYTHING WE CAN TO KEEP EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO HAS NOT DIED OR IS NOT YET SICK - SAFE - MIGHT MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE NORMAL LIVES AGAIN.
Please, please, please, I implore you - exhort EVERYONE to put on and keep on a mask the moment they exit their own doorway.
Please.
This is Save Some Lives - Wear a Mask:
I characterized my own opinions as "little, petty, and personal" because at this moment in ALL OF OUR LIVES no single human opinion, nor even collective opinions, are going to save lives.
BEHAVING as if every one of us can help save everyone else's life is what matters now.
Not thoughts, opinions, points of view now - but the ACTIONS OF SEQUESTERING OURSELVES, AVOIDING ONE ANOTHER, AND MASKING OURSELVES WHEN OUT OF OUR OWN HOMES.
>>STR, you’re as arrogant and ignorant<<
But of course!
>>We've all been asked to STAY INDOORS if we do not have to go outside of our homes - and that came some time ago.
Now, we have finally been asked to wear masks, period.<<
Again, I ask for a directive. Please give it to me. The ones I have do not say one has to wear a mask when one steps out the door. Not opinions or requests, but orders. BTW, I follow all the directives, no matter my opinion.
The directive from the governor has two main orders.
1) Have a mask when one is outside. Note: Have.
2) Wear a mask when in a situation where contact is made, less than 6 feet. Examples are given: Busy streets, subways, etc.
I have a mask and wear it when required.
For me to sit on a bench, away from people, does not endanger anyone.
The governor's own words:
"If you're going to be in public and you cannot maintain social distancing, then have a mask and put the mask on when you are not in socially distanced places. You're walking down the street, you're walking down the street alone? Great. You're now at an intersection and there are people in the intersection and you're going to be in proximity to other people? Put the mask on."
You can’t always control who is around you and when it happens. It’s happened to me several times the few times that I have been outside over the past month. Just yesterday there was a jerk behind me, whom I wasn’t aware of, who came up right next to me and wasn’t wearing a mask. No 6’ social distancing; no mask. I was furious and blasted him verbally, which he just flippantly tossed off.
STR, you deserve to be blasted constantly if you are outside and not wearing a mask. How selfish and irresponsible of you. And, if you get coronavirus and have to go to the hospital, you will be putting healthcare workers’ lives in danger. Try thinking about someone else besides your selfish self. You attitude makes you sound like a total assh*ole.
The main culprits of the social distancing norms are the joggers, kids on scooters , and dog walkers. When I walk through ST these three groups are menaces. The dog walkers stop in the middle of the path. The kids on scooters are allowed to just breeze close to people, and the joggers just go on their merry ways past anybody. The ST workers also just rush past you at times. I can’t tell you how many times that I have to stop in my tracks to avoid the above menaces. Slick Rick put out an e-mail about PS being burdened with enforcing the norms, but I see them just walking around , oblivious to anything. No surprise there. Oh, I forgot to mention those talking on phones unaware of what is going on around them. Still far too many people out in ST. I take a few walks around the Oval each week for exercise, but I have the feeling that some of these people are out much of the day, every day.
How selfish and irresponsible of YOU to determine for someone else? Again, I ask, show me a directive from the governor that says you must wear a mask when you leave your door. I've already quoted the governor on this.
And you know very little about my life or what my concerns are....
The suggestion was that I should have more Vitamin D, and Vitamin D is gotten a lot from being outside and in the sun. This is a suggestion from my primary doctor based on tests. Who are you to state that I can't sit outside, not bothering anyone and obeying the governor's directive? If you are concerned about you, take steps, but telling others to follow YOUR directive is something I'm not willing to do.
I was furious and blasted him verbally, which he just flippantly tossed off.
If you’re flipping out anytime anyone gets near you outside, then you should remain in your apartment. You’re a problem, not a solution.
I’d toss you off too, just like I do panhandlers and other annoyances...
“Vitamin D is gotten a lot from being outside and in the sun. This is a suggestion from my primary doctor based on tests.“
So, sit outside WEARING A MASK. There, problem solved. Don’t twist my words to suit your willful, selfish self.
https://www.aol.com/article/news/2020/04/17/sunlight-destroys-virus-quickly-new-govt-tests-find-but-experts-say-pandemic-could-last-through-summer/24017889/
Interesting....
STR, no one said you can’t sit in the sun, but please wear a mask when you do. For someone concerned about their health, and understandably so, you’re not thinking about this very sensibly. What if someone else with the same kind of I-don’t-have-to-wear-a-mask thinking passes you by and infects you with coronavirus? And others who might pass by you shouldn’t have to be worried by the fact that you aren’t wearing a mask. Unless you can sit someplace where you are totally alone and there’s no risk of anyone else passing by, you need to be wearing a mask. Please stop trying to rationalize the indefensible. It just makes you look bad. Really bad.
Are face masks going to become like condoms — ubiquitous, sometimes fashionable, promoted with public service announcements? They should be, one virus researcher says, if early indications are correct in suggesting that the coronavirus is often spread by people who feel healthy and show no symptoms.
“Face masks are a barrier method that might also need to be worn consistently and correctly to prevent transmission of this virus,” David O’Connor, who studies viral disease at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, wrote in an email.
He said it was time to “normalize face masks, and fast.”

>>What if someone else with the same kind of I-don’t-have-to-wear-a-mask thinking passes you by and infects you with coronavirus?<<
You don't know where I sit, I see. Unless a person would go up to me on purpose, it's not going to happen.
>>STR, no one said you can’t sit in the sun, but please wear a mask when you do.<<
And have the sun's rays hit what? The little space of my forehead?
>>It just makes you look bad. Really bad.<<
You assume to know how other people feel about me and that I care. You are wrong. Very wrong. Also, wake up. "Other people" can feel the same way I do. That's what makes America great. People with different ideas, different opinions. But you are trying to bully people to accept YOUR idea and opinions. You can try. But with me, you lose.
There are many "experts" (particularly now) and many opinions. There are other "experts" who say that face masks depend on how they are made, etc. There are "experts" who say that wearing this mask or that one, depending on the make, is useless and can give a false sense of security.
I do note that so far there is no response to the governor's directive.
As I have previously said, if you have found someplace to sit where you are always completely alone, under those circumstances only is it appropriate not to be wearing a mask. However, you have mentioned before that you sit around the Oval, so sitting anywhere around there not wearing a mask would certainly not be OK.
STR, you can also absorb Vitamin D through your arms and legs (as well as your abdomen and back). In fact, absorbing Vitamin D that way is probably safer because your face and top of your ears are the most sun-exposed and sun-damaged skin areas. Don’t believe me? Goggle it.
No heat today all day. How do they expect us to stay well when we get no heat. No wonder so many people commit suicide here.
OPINIONS have 0, nada, nothing to do with this new proliferating life force of a virus.
It enters a live body and does what it does inside that body. It isn't subject to theories, opinions, feelings, differing points of view.
IT IS ENDANGERING EVERYONE. IT IS KILLING LOTS OF PEOPLE. IN A HEARTBREAKING WAY. 'EVER WATCH SOMEONE CHOKE TO DEATH??? An aunt of mine did just that. Her daughter, decades later, is haunted by that experience.
Why, oh why, is there, "well, this is me, and I'm different" argument going on here? If we lived in a rural area, or even a suburb where individuals could spread out and NOT BREATHE THE SAME AIR AS ONE ANOTHER, then we could prance around naked, or in Halloween masks, or juggling six balls at once if we've the skill and inclination. NO PROBLEM. NO WORRIES.
I've relatives and friends who live in areas sparsely populated and they do not therefore need to take these precautions. But for the sake of millions of us, we do.
If you’re flipping out anytime anyone gets near you outside, then you should remain in your apartment. You’re a problem, not a solution
And you are a dangerous, reckless idiot. Ever heard of social distancing? You know, staying at least 6” away from other people when you are outside? Apparently not.
>>However, you have mentioned before that you sit around the Oval, so sitting anywhere around there not wearing a mask would certainly not be OK.<<
What time and, importantly, what day? I have sat at the Oval, pre-virus, and maybe once or twice when the virus started making news in the beginning, but never during this period.
>>STR, you can also absorb Vitamin D through your arms and legs (as well as your abdomen and back).<<
Yeah, but this is not the beach! Particularly Jan-March, and even in April. Full civilian clothes plus. How are the sun's rays going to reach me in a winter coat?
>>OPINIONS have 0, nada, nothing to do with this new proliferating life force of a virus.<<
Yes, but a virus can have much to do with the fear factor. As I said, I am more at risk than many others, but I try not to freak out. I'm sure death and suffering are not pleasant for anyone who knows someone who has a serious illness or someone who is near death him or herself. That is a given.
Yeah, but this is not the beach! Particularly Jan-March, and even in April. Full civilian clothes plus. How are the sun's rays going to reach me in a winter coat?
You’re kidding yourself if you think you’re getting adequate vitamin D from sunshine in the winter or even April. Here’s just one example of an article indicating that you aren’t.
During the winter, it’s much harder to get enough UVB to make vitamin D, because people bundle up in cold weather and the sun stays lower in the sky. Several studies have concluded that inadequate UVB limits vitamin D synthesis for at least a few months during the winter above about 35 degrees latitude — which runs through the southern borders of Tennessee and Nevada; Boston is at 42 degrees latitude.
However, a person’s vitamin D supply doesn’t plummet immediately in the winter. “One thing to keep in mind is that our bodies can store vitamin D in the liver and fat tissues, so there are ample opportunities to make vitamin D in spring, summer and fall,” said Carol Haggans, a registered dietitian and spokeswoman for the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/16/well/live/do-i-get-enough-vitamin-d-in-the-winter.html
STR, what you need is a month in the Bahamas with a bunch of pole dancers. That would raise your Vitamin D and ...." Let me not digress. ;-)
64 degrees in my apartment at 6:15AM
No heat at all.
“The ones I have do not say one has to wear a mask when one steps out the door.”
Given what goes on in my building and probably most buildings, I always wear a mask when I enter my lobby from the elevator and also when I leave or enter my building. There are many people out and about, so going without a mask in these areas is very foolish and risky.
If you aren’t wearing a mask when you step outside, I really pray that you don’t live in my building, STR. Anyone could come up beind you when you’re exiting and you might not know it until it’s too late. Can’t count the number of times that has happened to me. Please don’t put other people at risk, STR. Please wear a mask until you arrive at wherever you go to sit by yourself.
>>STR, what you need is a month in the Bahamas with a bunch of pole dancers.<<
One of the best suggestions, but I cannot do right now.
>>If you aren’t wearing a mask when you step outside, I really pray that you don’t live in my building, STR.<<
I probably don't.
Good to know that you are no longer sitting around the Oval, STR. That makes one less potentially dangerous, irresponsible person that I have to worry about trying to avoid when I have to walk through there. Thanks.
>>You’re kidding yourself if you think you’re getting adequate vitamin D from sunshine in the winter or even April. Here’s just one example of an article indicating that you aren’t.<<
You can show me a lot of articles and so can I. But I want to do what I think is necessary to me, either for body health and/or mental health, and the advice says to go out in the sun if you can, and don't sit wearing a hazmat suit because someone (article, "expert") says Vitamin D will get to you, anyway. Do not, obviously, get a sunburn. But to keep yourself locked up in your apartment or fearful of any human is not what I feel is good for me. It may be good for you, then keep on doing it. But for me, no.
I am going to do something that I haven't done before, which is to post a bit from a comment that I did not let pass. There have been such comments about other matters, so, yes, not all comments are passed. But I read the comment this morning, and I am sure the person can read part of his/her message. Part of the whole comment that did not go through is below.
Of course, these people/protesters are from "the Low IQ states"....
And, of course, the outcome and the solution:
"If/when they get sick they will contaminate innocent people, give doctors and nurses even more work to do and probably die. I think they should be shot on sight."
""If/when they get sick they will contaminate innocent people, give doctors and nurses even more work to do and probably die. I think they should be shot on sight."
Just as dumb as the rubes who carry Ar-15 guns, Confederate flags and protest the social distance/lock down rules. Everyone in this country, no matter how dumb, deserves emergency medical care.
Rubes? Protest?
BTW, I was outside and sat for a while (keeping to the governor's directive), and I noticed:
About 7 runners, both in Stuyvesant and on 1st Ave, not wearing any mask and not carrying one. A few runners had a mask. A guy with his young child, in Stuy Town on one of the busy pathways, doing Soap Bubbles. What bothers me about this is that people are wearing masks and the soap bubbles extend far out, particularly on a windy day, like today. Pre-virus, I avoid someone playing with these bubbles because I don't want a bubble getting into my eye. (I wear contacts.) But now everyone is wearing a mask, so imagine a bubble or more attaching itself to your mask. There is, of course, another concern depending on the person. The virus.
Those “low IQ rubes” are setting themselves up fairly well for when the next civil war happens. Instead of handing over their constitutional rights, like the liberal elite in the northeast and California would do in a heartbeat, they are protecting themselves against the overreach of some politicians (liberals and socialists).
You, who I’m assuming consider yourself to be “high IQ,” want to live in a state run hell where the govt dictates everything you do. If they are rubes, you are sheep.
@ April 19, 2020 at 1:09 PM
Is that secretly you, STR? Whoever you are, you’re clearly a wacko, Fox TV watching, Trump supporter.
Keep it up and maybe you’ll end up like this guy:
A Beloved Bar Owner Was Skeptical About the Virus. Then He Took a Cruise.
AND DIED.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/18/nyregion/coronavirus-jjbubbles-joe-joyce.html
COULD YOU ALL PLEASE STOP THIS POLITICAL ANGRY NAME-CALLING?????
We are all worried, exhausted, apprehensive.
The plain facts are the matter are: (a) we don't know WHEN this will all be over; (b) if and how virulently it might return; (c) what the effects are going to be economically, socially, just plain being alive for some of us, and much more we cannot even plan for or imagine.
AND: Whether or not it is pleasant or "acceptable," the truly, truly best course of action right now, in addition to vaccination and cure (IF and whenever each of them) is:
STAY IN THE HOUSE IF YOU CAN.
IF YOU CANNOT STAY IN THE HOUSE, KEEP A MASK ON 100% PERCENT OF THE TIME AS YOU STEP OUT OF YOUR OWN DOORWAY.
KEEP THE MASK ON; DO NOT LOWER IT; DO NOT PULL IT AN INCH OR TWO FROM YOUR FACE.
DO NOT LOWER IT AT ALL WHILE YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR OWN LIVING SPACE.
KEEP THE MASK COMPLETELY COVERING YOUR NOSE AS WELL AS YOUR MOUTH.
Sorry to say this, but: ALL CHILDREN ARE POTENTIAL KILLERS NOW TO THE EXTENT THEY MIGHT CARRY THE VIRUS. NOT A MORAL JUDGMENT OR ACCUSATION, JUST A FACT.
SO KEEP YOUR POOR BORED, OVEREXCITED, PROBABLY ANXIOUS LITTLE ONES IN THE HOUSE. NOT OUTSIDE RUNNING AROUND, DRAWING CHALK CREATIONS, BLOWING BUBBLES, PLAYING.
This writer hurts for just about all of us now in addition to being scared for her own health and that of those closest to me.
"like the liberal elite in the northeast and California would do in a heartbeat, they are protecting themselves against the overreach of some politicians (liberals and socialists)."
Yet you chose to live (do you really live here?) in this Socialist Commie paradise called STPCV one of most heavily regulated NYS/NYC housing projects anywhere. Your party does not believe in ANY residential rent regulations. So tired of the hypocrisy of the right wingers here who vote against their own interests time and time again to "own" the libs, don't believe in science or have the fear of "the other". Unless you're a REBNY troll. Then I guess you're a big Blackstone fan. Overreach? Yes, in some cases. Not a fan of BdB or Cuomo. They are both "Neo Liberals", both bought and paid for by REBNY. Funny how you advocate to keep the government out your life but that does that not include a women's right to choose. And STR, you let that post in and its your blog, I'm hoping you let this one in too.
There is no "lower IQ state" than NY. Look at the horrible leaders this state elects. Cuomo, DeBlasio, everyone on the city council, etc., etc. The smart people (over 200 per day) left before the pandemic. That will continue as cities become more and more useless.
Oh no, not the bubbles. Think of the children...
Love my AR-15. I can hit a quarter from 100 yards. I didn't learn that at Harvard! No one actually learns much at Harvard.
Does anybody know what that white van is on the 14th Street Loop? It looks like a refrigerated van. I hope they're not storing bodies in it!
>>Is that secretly you, STR?<<
No.
Take photos and text to 311. Don’t know if it will do anything, but it doesn’t hurt to try. I will not tolerate this kind of behavior that endangers my health. Slick Rick needs to call out these offending groups : joggers, dog walkers, kids on scooters. All joggers should be required to weave masks. In France they outlawed jogging. There will be no enforcement here. So you must take things into your own hands.
Think of anyone walking by them
“BTW, I follow all the directives, no matter my opinion.”
People are not supposed to be sitting around outside now. So, even though you say you follow directives, clearly you don’t, STR.
No only have you been asked to stay inside by government officials, Rick Hayduk said this in his latest email. “Please, stay at home, social distance when you have to leave for an essential task and with the Governor’s new mandate, wear a face covering.”
Whether you like him or not, whether you agree with him or not, Hayduk runs this place and is asking you and everyone else who lives here to only go out for essential tasks — grocery shopping, going to the drug store or the doctor, exercise. Sitting on a bench is not an “essential task”, it’s just something that you want to do. Selfishly.
The smart people (over 200 per day) left before the pandemic."
Yeah like your hero Rush.
"That will continue as cities become more and more useless."
So I guess all the Gen Ms and Gen Zs who swarm here are not here? And Bezos who was hot to trot to come here? Hudson Yards? I'll stop now. What a ridiculous statement. Not only did do you not live here, you are not even a New Yorker. Period. This is still the greatest city in the world.
Rube.
I went out today for a masked/gloved/distanced-from-people walk around 4:30 on a mildish Sunday afternoon to be surprised and disgusted and enraged and saddened.
There was no direction in which I could walk to avoid people without masks, smoking and blowing smoke rings lazily into the air, hanging out at flagpoles smoking cigars and behaving as if it's "summer and the livin' is easy."
Kids, kids and more kids on scooters whizzing past, SITTING on the walkways drawing large chalk projects as their parent/s SAT with them on the walkways. Morons dressed for SUMMER in "hey, I'm hot, and here's all my private equipment to see tight spandex shorts" on goddamned Citibikes.
An older couple who decided to have some kind of picnic, spreading out whatever the hell it was on the steps of the Main entrance to my building just as I approached the walkway. I stood there calling to them that they were making it impossible to enter my own building.
Color, "content of character" as Martin Luther King, Jr. termed it, age, sex, gender - no differences! Equality in diversity: equal in behavior beyond deplorable. Probably with the many dead and dying: sociopathic behavior. My father's infamous, decades-old expression of "Hurray for me and to hell with you" behaviors to the extreme.
I would like to either go out heavily armed and simply dispatch every indifferent walking virus vector or, in a more temperate action: Post huge signs all over every surface: "THANK YOU FOR CAUSING MY EXCRUCIATING DEATH."
Lest you think for one moment this behavior of too many carbon-based creatures here during plague is novel (pun intended), a Security Guard here related to me the fact that during the summer months, some so-called "parents" "swim" in the Oval fountain with their infants.
I leave you with that thought and: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE STOP THE POLITICAL INSULTS. IT AVAILS US NOTHING. THE VIRUS IS BIGGER THAN ALL OF THAT.
>>People are not supposed to be sitting around outside now. So, even though you say you follow directives, clearly you don’t, STR.<<
I follow the governor's directive, and have also posted his very words on the matter. Yes, I can sit outside as long as I am maintaining social distance. Also, I will listen to my doctor, my blood results, smart (not frenzied) opinions, my own mental and physical health, etc. Another "opinion" with facts is that it can be wrong for your health to just stay in an apartment where you are constantly breathing air that is not fresh and, if you are in a household, the same air with others.
"I went out today for a masked/gloved/distanced-from-people walk around 4:30 on a mildish Sunday afternoon to be surprised and disgusted and enraged and saddened." etc.
I agree with 95% of your post. However, 2 things: 1. Your “dispatch” comment, even if meant to be ironic, was way over the top and you should post an edit to the STR. 2 Going out at 4.30 PM is a mistake. We went out early in the Sunday morning for our essential chores and exercise (masks and gloves) and stayed home for the rest of the day. Any day here in the afternoon with good weather is a guaranteed horror show. Bottom line? Rick has lost total control here. His “resort” management style has caught up with him and bit him in the ass.

And clearly your a low IQ probably transplant NYer as I was born here over 60 years ago and watched transplants like you ruin it. I'll type slower so you can keep up...prior to the pandemic over 200 people per day left the city ..NET. That means that people are NOT clamoring to move into the highest taxed place in the nation but the exact opposite. Couple that with peoples new found ability to work remotely and more people will leave. Average price of a condo in Manhattan is down to 850k and commercial availability is at record levels. The exodus has begun and will continue. As soon as my kids get out of college and I can turn my RS apartment over to them, if they want it. One has already received an offer from Morgan Stanley in Dallas TX. I will join the masses leaving this failed city/state, ruined by dumb asses, Dumb ass. Keep living in the past and pay out the ass to live in a second rate place, chump.
They make vitamin d pills. My doctor gave me one you take once a month.
>>They make vitamin d pills. My doctor gave me one you take once a month.<<
And I've taken those, thank you. I also prefer to get my Vitamin D the natural way instead of a pill.
"And clearly your a low IQ probably transplant NYer"
Born, raised and still living here. Went to Stuy High when it was on 1st and 15th. And you? Have fun in Texas.

>>They make vitamin d pills. My doctor gave me one you take once a month.<<
And I've taken those, thank you. I also prefer to get my Vitamin D the natural way instead of a pill.
I think it’s obvious to everyone by now that STR is going to do exactly what he/she wants to do. While others who would also like to get their Vitamin D the “natural way” are staying inside, as they have been asked to do, STR will be outside sitting on bench without a mask on and exiting his building without wearing a mask. Sad. And dangerous.
>>While others who would also like to get their Vitamin D the “natural way” are staying inside, as they have been asked to do, STR will be outside sitting on bench without a mask on and exiting his building without wearing a mask.<<
Again, assumptions are being made. How do you know that I don't leave the building and enter it without my mask on?
I've already made the statement that I follow the governor's directive. Let me repeat the governor's simple explanation.
Governor Cuomo:
"If you're going to be in public and you cannot maintain social distancing, then have a mask and put the mask on when you are not in socially distanced places. You're walking down the street, you're walking down the street alone? Great. You're now at an intersection and there are people in the intersection and you're going to be in proximity to other people? Put the mask on."
How do you know that I don't leave the building and enter it without my mask on?
I know because you as much as said so:
I am curious if you can point to the directive put out by the governor that states one must wear a mask the moment one leaves the door.
April 17, 2020 at 7:13 PM
That was one way of putting the issue, but it did not represent what I actually do.
I have many comments on the ranting about the virus that has been going on, however, I am going to take an optimistic view. I think it is absolutely wonderful that the college crowd has moved out. I am blessed with many apartments in my building being occupied by that crowd. Since they left, living in my building has become much more pleasant.
"That was one way of putting the issue, but it did not represent what I actually do."
Then clear the air and tell us exactly what you do. It S/B this:
I put my mask on when I am about to leave my apartment and it stays on until I reach my safe social distance bench space. Before I take off my mask for my vitamin D exposure I sanitize my hands. When I am ready to return to my apartment, I sanitize my hands again, put my mask back on and do not take it off until I am back inside my apartment. See easy and safe.
Yes?
Shout-out to long time tenants on 14th Street side of project: Has anybody seen Ramon (the "Mayor of 14th Street") lately? I haven't seen him in quite a while. I usually try to avoid him because he can be a bit of a pest, but I hope he's ok.
>>I put my mask on when I am about to leave my apartment and it stays on until I reach my safe social distance bench space. Before I take off my mask for my vitamin D exposure I sanitize my hands. Yes?<<
No. Some of the things I do, but I don't sanitize my hands aside from washing my hands when I get home, just as I always do, pre-virus. These days, I am also diligent about what I touch, and if I can "touch" something using my coat as a barrier, I do so.
Seen, again and again, joggers not wearing or carrying any face masks and disobeying the 6 feet social distance rule, even in Stuy Town. Also, in Stuy Town, an electric skateboard being ridden. No mask.
Again, the Management here, while doing things that are right, is also doing things that are not right and even illegal. This has been said many times, pre-virus. The "no one cares" meme is still happening.
Also interesting/telling is that the homeless encampment near the new corner restaurant on 20th and 1st, the encampment where any social distancing and face masks are a joke, is going on.
Stuy Town: Mowing the lawn with those big electric, and noisy, mowers is considered essential during the virus, but for humans to place themselves on the lawn is considered "non-essential," even illegal. I get it.
"I have many comments on the ranting about the virus that has been going on, however, I am going to take an optimistic view. I think it is absolutely wonderful that the college crowd has moved out. I am blessed with many apartments in my building being occupied by that crowd. Since they left, living in my building has become much more pleasant."
It's not just college but the initial "post college" crowd, their first "real apartment". Still funded by their parents and still being self-centered A-Holes. But yes, I totally agree with your post, the silver lining in the cloud here.
"No. Some of the things I do, but I don't sanitize my hands aside from washing my hands when I get home, just as I always do, pre-virus. These days, I am also diligent about what I touch, and if I can "touch" something using my coat as a barrier, I do so."
So you don't wear your mask when you leave or enter your apartment? Yes or no? Another question, do you wear your mask going to the re-cycle room or doing laundry? Yes or no? Please stop being nebulous in your replies.
"I have many comments on the ranting about the virus that has been going on, however, I am going to take an optimistic view. I think it is absolutely wonderful that the college crowd has moved out. You are right! Absolutely right! Since the college crowd moved out my building has been very quiet and peaceful, even though everybody is sheltering in place. Hayduk always disputes that this is a dorm. But we know he is a liar. He pretends to care about the seniors, but most of them are freezing in their apartments and will probably not survive this pandemic because of that. More room for more dorms when things get back to normal.
The Target on 14th St is a hazardous place. Finally, clerks are wearing face coverings because they are mandated. Too crowded, too little social distancing, too many idiots running by you. My last trip there for a while. Couldn’t wait to get out.
Reports of a naked (yes, naked) man assaulting two tenants at 626 yesterday, he was apparently apprehended by NYPD later at the Oval. Apparently Public Safety spotted him without a mask on and sprung into action!
Would love to know how he got into the buildings. Mind you, 626 is where that 10 minute attempted rape in the entrance foyer occurred a few years back. Nice to know we have those surveillance cameras there.
>>So you don't wear your mask when you leave or enter your apartment? Yes or no? Another question, do you wear your mask going to the re-cycle room or doing laundry? Yes or no? Please stop being nebulous in your replies.<<
Ah, The Inquisition! LOL. But, yes, I do wear a mask when leaving my apartment and going into my apartment. As for recycling or laundry room, I haven't done that in a couple of weeks. Small laundry--I do by hand and hang up to dry. Garbage? The chute or downstairs, wearing a mask.
I agree. Less college students. Gone benefit of this terrible pandemic. May they stay away.
So many control freaks on this blog!
Just read on the TA fb page that a lady and a teen were assaulted in the elevator by a naked guy who was throwing punches. He's been sent for 72 hours evaluation because he's mentally ill. Why don't they put such people away? Don't know if he was a resident or just passing through, but we are surrounded by group homes for dangerous juvenile miscreants, we have the ACS children's home and Bellevue men's shelter just up the Avenue. All we have here are half a dozen mall cops and a million non-working cameras that we are paying for on an a permanent on-going basis. No wonder they have to lie and bribe to get people to move in here and people are moving out faster than anybody is moving in.
I live at 626. The attempted rape was at 628. What info do you have on the assaults at 626 yesterday. I didn't hear anything about it until your comment.
Naked man? This is bizarre. I don't mean to be indelicate, but I'd think if it were possible, a good hard kick to a crucial area might have disabled him.
What kind of lunatics do we have infesting this place???
"or laundry room, I haven't done that in a couple of weeks. Small laundry--I do by hand and hang up to dry.""
Small laundry.
What do you do when you run out of clean sheets? The Inquisition must KNOW! :)
An elderly lady was assaulted and beaten by a naked man in the elevator in Sty Town. She is a long-term tenant; the assailant was in an apartment that was recently advertised for rent by Beam Dying so he is clearly a high-rent tenant. i wonder who Rick the Sick will have sympathy for? The lunatic who assaulted her is being held for 72 hour assessment and then will be set free. The poor lady who was assaulted says she wants to move. Why should she move? She should sue the fucking hell out of the landlord who exposed her to this EXPOSED and dangerous lunatic.
I hope she gets counseling for her trauma and then gets a good lawyer.
Anybody with a checkbook and a pulse can rent here. It's not surprising that Rick the Sick tries so hard to hide the identities of who lives here - at least to the extent that he actually knows who lives here.
"Would love to know how he got into the buildings. Mind you, 626 is where that 10 minute attempted rape in the entrance foyer occurred a few years back. Nice to know we have those surveillance cameras there."
He's a tenant/resident at that address.
>>What do you do when you run out of clean sheets?<<
A gentleman never tells what he does with the sheets.
>>He's a tenant/resident at that address.<<
The "community".....
He's a tenant/resident at that address....
I understand the naked psycho lives on the same floor as his victims. An elderly lady and a teen were his victims and they could not get away or return any blows. Psychos have a great deal of strength when they having an "episode" and an elderly lady and a young girl stand no chance in that sort of situation, especially when trapped in an elevator with the assailant. Of course, it could be he was on some kind of "bad trip" due to drugs. We have some serious drug stuff going on here. Anybody remember the teen who was cooking something with sulfuric acid in his apartment and then offed himself with it? I think it was in March 2016. The whole building had to be evacuated and his roommate and an FDNY member were severely hurt.
A lot of drug activity goes on in the stairwells here and I'm not talking just pot.
This is not a safe or desirable place to live. Maybe it was once, but certainly not now. But look at the idiot who "runs" it.
I eagerly await Rick's email on this incident.
I guarantee complete radio silence on the attack in 626. Hell, At a minimum he usually texts people in the building where an incident occurred. Did anyone in 626 get a text on this??
"I eagerly await Rick's email on this incident."
What we do know that in the email that the word "community" will be used at least 3 times in it and he will also say "We're on it". This woman needs to lawyer up. But since she's elderly, she will be a typical elderly person here and be afraid of Management and docile.
I eagerly await Rick's email on this incident.
I can see it now..
"Another amenity we offer is clothing optional elevators where just about anything goes, wink, wink..."
Where is the Tenants Association in the current crisis?
President Susan Steinberg has apparently disappeared.
What no photo ops?
Hey, Shifty Susan, ever going to open the books of your sham, flimflam "organization?"
What's that, Susan?
You want $50 for "membership?"
Nah, not today, Susan.
How is this for an original concept, Rick.
Heat, hot water, no brown sludge coming out of faucets.
Oh, sorry, I didn't understand.
They're all "amenities."
The people on the TA fb keep asking that poor lady if her attacker was a resident or somebody from outside and are urging her not to move, etc. HEY FUCKHEADS - THE ATTACKER IS A TENANT WHO LIVES ON THE SAME FLOOR AS THE VICTIM. Sick Rick will no doubt try to silence the victim for the sake of "privacy" e.g., making the Community Life here look bad. I know FOR A FACE that the loony/druggie whatever lives on the same floor as the victim. She is a longtime tenant and he is on one of the tarted-up renovated MR units. Who will "Management" care about more? Stay tuned
I don't know the lady personally, but I know the building. Got friends living there and visit often. Just watch Sick Rick try to cover this up.
Very trivial question, but I am curious: Has anybody noticed that our water seems "harder" lately? The cold water doesn't taste so good and it's hard to get a good lather when using the hot water. I can dump half a bottle of Dawn Extra Strength in the dish pan and hardly get any suds! Not the most agonizing or important thing in the world, but I'm just curious to know if anybody else has noticed this and knows if our water supply is now different. Thanks.
Is anyone on Citizen app and maybe able to find the report of the assault?
Do we have any details?
No one is going to heed this call for a rent strike for May. But we damn well ought to.
Not only do I (a female) need to worry about the virus (and the jackasses who expose me to it every time I set foot out of my door), but also violent maniacs of all stripes (and no stripes - just bare flesh!) and ages and sizes and colors and dispositions to steal, beat, hurt, maim, rape, kill.
Elevators . . . stairwells (drinking, drugs, sex, stolen goods, defecating), hallways, paths, the public roadways.
Killer virus and violent humans. Lovely.
WHY THE HELL ARE YOU (AND I) PAYING PEOPLE TO OPEN US TO TORTURE?
Nothing yet from Rick about this assault incident.
"Elevators . . . stairwells (drinking, drugs, sex, stolen goods, defecating), hallways, paths, the public roadways."
I hear people on the stairs all the time. I know some people might not want to take the elevators because of social distancing, but why are there people running up and down the stairs in the early hours of the morning? The elevators are not used much at those hours. I think we have quite a few drug/booze communes on the stairs and they are not residents. Years ago, Security used to do walk-throughs of every building late at night. That's when we had a real Security Force. Now we have a half dozen or so mall cops and zillions of cameras that don't work. The stairwells here are as dangerous as the Projects. Hell, this is a Project, it just isn't a NYCHA project. Sick Rick thinks it's a resort. :-(
I live on the 7th floor of 626. If anybody knows the name of the naked perp let me know who it is.....I haven't seen anything official yet about this incident from either the 13th pct or management or any news source.
Actually the woman was never punched and not with a kid. She also didn’t talk to police. Always thinking about the law. What about for the health of the person who encountered the male with mental issues? What does this have to do with Rick? If a tenant has mental issues and decides to go rouge, what is Rick supposed to do?
"Nothing yet from Rick about the assault incident the other day."
Don't hold your breath! Rick does not report on anything that is detrimental to our safety and health. Such incidents are NOT a priority with him. Remember, he is not a real property manager. He is a resort manager and resort managers only want Happy Campers - even if there is a psycho in the camp. The Son of Sam would have been happy living here and doing his sicko murders. Management would have never commented on anything he did.
Can't wait to get out of this sicko hellhole and warn EVERYBODY I meet not to even THINK of renting here!
>>Actually the woman was never punched and not with a kid. She also didn’t talk to police. Always thinking about the law. Not what I read on the other Facebooks.
The TA Facebook:
>>Last night around 9:00 pm a naked man assaulted me in the elevator of 626
Please be aware that this man is dangerous and assaulting people
He was naked and yelling and throwing punches at me
A teen girl was also his victim
No parents need to hear that their daughter was confronted by an aggressive naked man in Stuy town
Get management to take action. NOW. BEFORE HE KILLS SOMEONE<<
Is this a false report? And others heard a commotion near one of the Oval amenity buildings. Afterwards, PS and cops arrived. Is this a false report?
As for Rick, no one is asking that he stop the assault when it is occurring. But having a statement from him would be nice.
The apartment number of the perp was briefly mentioned (by the victim) on fb, but quickly removed. No doubt on orders from ??????
"Actually the woman was never punched and not with a kid. She also didn’t talk to police. Always thinking about the law. You are talking out of your asshole and I suspect you work for "Management." Slimy Rick will try to brush this under the carpet the way he does everything else that happens here that is an affront to tenants, individually and collectively. He is a POS and I think we all know that by now. It's too bad we don't have a Tenants Association who would be interested in the welfare and safety of tenants who are victimized by the scum that "Management" rents to these days.
I hope the parents of the teenaged girl take legal action against the assailant. I suspect that the primary victim, being an elderly lady, is going to be intimidated into keeping quiet by this sleazy so-called Manager. Maybe it's time we carried tasers with us. A taser in the nuts would have stopped that naked cowboy right in his tracks! If Rick keeps up his current approach to this kind of thing, that's what will be the outcome.
From the poster at the TA Facebook, 7 hours ago from my comment below:
>>To date management has failed to even answer my basic questions. Such as when will this assailant come back to 626<<
So, this is my perspective on this. I wasn't there and did not hear or see anything. That stated, I have read about the incidents at two places, and there are enough people who reported something about the incidents on these blogs, so I trust they are as correct as a person can be.
From what I read, this attacker is either mentally ill or took something to behave this way, which can also be not taking proper medication. The people in that building, with the victims, are compelled/asked to stay indoors per instructions because of the virus. So, in effect, they are "prisoners," not only of the virus, but now also of the attacker. Management has kept quiet so far, even to the person attacked.
This is a serious situation, and Management must say and do something to make sure residents feel safer.
Of course, if something is said, it will go like this:
"There was an incident at Stuy Town. We are legally bound not to say anything about it, but be aware that we take this incident very seriously and are working to make sure that this community is safe for everyone."
They should have the assault on record as there is a camera in every elevator.
I totally believe the lady who claims she was assaulted. Also, a naked, screaming adult male was seen being apprehended by PS somewhere near the Oval. Several people witnessed this. The victim of the assault said that Chief Martin is working with her.
Rick is not going to say or do anything about it because he is too busy sending out advice on how we should entertain ourselves at home. I wouldn't expect him to make a public statement about this, but he should definitely be in contact with the victim. The lady is scared to leave her apartment because the perp lives across the hall from her. How do I know this? I know the building very well. I don't know the people personally.
We had a psycho in my building at one time who was terrorizing neighbors. Until he could be evicted, Management had a security guard sit in the hall all night. They should protect this lady in such a manner and evict the perp ASAP.
The lawyers will have field day on this. Was there even a serious background check for every resident or is it, basically, pay the rent and you can have the apartment? And if lawyers get involved, which they should, then a lot will be squelched; certainly the money paid.
Following more of this. The victim is posting on the TA Facebook. Management has contacted her to recommend a private security firm. Seriously.
I am concerned about certain facts, though. From what we know, Stuy Town asks not to get into an elevator if someone is there.
Residents need to know more facts.
Some things to think about: Both Management and the 13th Precinct are not taking this as seriously as is being mentioned by the victim. Why? I am not a rah-rah enthusiast of Management here, but something "smells." Again, we need to know more facts.
"Some things to think about: Both Management and the 13th Precinct are not taking this as seriously as is being mentioned by the victim. Why? I am not a rah-rah enthusiast of Management here, but something "smells." Again, we need to know more facts."
Maybe because the victim is an elderly lady and her life and existence are not considered important by Management and the 13th Pct. If her neighbor has a similar episode she could die of fear and then they have one less old person to bother with and one more two-bedroomed apartment to put on the market - probably converted to a three or four bedroom unit. She should call 911 if she gets any more trouble from her neighbor. Call 911 each and every time. Never mind the 13th Pct. They are generally useless when it comes to Sty. Too many "connections."
I've been off fb for a few weeks, but just saw the post on the TA page by the lady who was assaulted by a naked maniac the other night. She was in the elevator with a young neighbor and her dog, and this crazy naked guy got on and trapped them there while screaming and throwing punches at the elderly lady. How terrifying! How traumatizing! It seems (reading through the thread) that apart from the head of security (Fran Marten?) nobody in management gives a flying fig and Rick told her to google and find a private security firm. Yeah! I'm sure a senior citizen can afford a private guard! It is the responsibility of management to protect this lady and ensure that it doesn't happen again. I'm not sure, but I think the assailant is a neighbor in the same building and now she's terrified of leaving her apartment.
I hope she's got friends and family to reach out to. She needs to file suit against Management because nobody should have to live in terror. If Rick can be dragged away from his Master of Ceremonies job and start taking care of the residents HE IS PAID TO SERVE maybe he'll find time to extend some sympathy and help and comfort to the poor lady. She is really suffering. Meantime, she needs to keep her cell phone on her and dial 911 if she runs into that psycho/druggie again.
Again, please don't use a named family unless there is an okay from the family. Also a post was worthy but it mentioned the floor where the attacker and victim live, which I can't do at this point. I'll see if I can edit out the floor, but I may not be able to do that.
Edited post.
"This lady was trapped by this naked, screaming, fist-flailing lunatic who lives on the same floor as she. She is scared to leave her apartment. Rick tells her to google private security firms. Is he going to pay for the private security?
"This fucking jackass is so busy finding games and movies for people to engage online and he doesn't want to be bothered with an elderly lady who was terrorized. We had a similar situation in my building, but the people being harassed and terrorized were a bit too savvy for Rick's bullshit.
"Rick does NOT belong here. He is from the hospitality/entertainment property industry. He is not an experienced residential property manager and is totally out of his depth. I hope that at some point the press/media will get wind of what we have to endure here and then it is possible that something will be done. We need to be rid of this useless idiot. He hasn't got a clue about how to the job he's supposed to be doing. He blunders through everything and does a lot more harm than good. Look at how he went gungho at removing names from directories and intercoms and then did a totally fucked up job of trying to reverse course when he found out that what he had done was illegal.
"He does nothing but send out paternalistic, bullshit emails giving unneeded and unnecessary advice. He must think he's running a group home or a nursing home. The majority of the tenants are a million times more tech-savvy, intelligent and forward-thinking than he is, but he continues with his pathetic attempts to be an entertainment director/nanny or whatever you could think of to describe such a mentality. All of the tenants I know (and I know a lot of them) are offended or amused by his emails, but subscribe to them for just in case one of them should contain any important information they might need to know about.
"We need a real Property Manager and we are stuck with this useless clown."
Unless I'm missing something, I'm really dismayed about Management's reaction here.
I was over at the TA Facebook. The assailant and his partner (yes, there is a partner) will leave at the end of May. So far, nothing public from Management about this incident.
"I was over at the TA Facebook. The assailant and his partner (yes, there is a partner) will leave at the end of May. So far, nothing public from Management about this incident."
I can't believe Hayduk told her to google some private security firms! What a total asshole. That was the last nail in the coffin for me as far as he and his credibility and "caring" is concerned. Total asshole. The woman is 74 years old, a long time tenant and we're under lockdown with this fucking pandemic and he treats her like that. He needs to go back to running a cheap resort; he certainly is not fit to run this place. Callous bastard.
Rick doesn’t care if he looks like a callous bastard to the tenants who already live here, because the PR machine is working overtime to make sure the external optics are on point. Whether it’s sending Peter Coops Scoops out to serve ice cream to all the hospitals or letting City Harvest use the old Associated space, they are making sure that the people who don’t live here are talking positively about them. Again, they are not concerned with current tenants, as their pocketbook relies on their ability to bring in future tenants since they already have us suckers locked in here.
Rick the Dick has hit a new low in response to the egregious assault on the elderly woman.
And where is the Tenants Association acting as an advocate for this victim?
Nowhere!
Come out of hiding, Susan Steinberg!
'Chief' Martin only met with the victim in a clumsy attempt to preclude legal action by the latter. There were two victims, and both of them should definitely pursue such action. If one victim was a minor, her family can sue on her behalf.
I think this incident should be put out to the press and mainstream media. Anybody got a "connection?" The callous attitude of "management" is so totally in contrast with the daily bullshit we get from Rick about how much he cares about the elderly tenants, yadayada. He should have gone and visited her himself, but he doesn't want the shitty outfit he works for to look in any way guilty and this is the way guilty outfits behave when they are anticipating a lawsuit. Any show of sympathy can be construed as an admission of guilt. He is obeying the Blackstone lawyers. Believe me because I know about about this area of law.
public safety is absolutely incompetent and negligent.
I know the tenant at 626 says she is grateful to frances martin for calling her, but that is a very low bar. calling her to check on her is nothing, the barest minimum that should be done.
I cant comment over on facebook but I just wanted to point out the obvious--OF COURSE she can press charges, this guy assaulted her (punching her and perhaps others) on an elevator, with security footage of the incident in existence.
it is disgusting that STuytown and NYPD are telling her she has to just accept this guy was mentally disturbed. this needs to be on his permanent record.
I'm not a lawyer but I hope someone out there is willing to help the tenant out, pro bono if necessary--this is a small task for any competent lawyer.
First step would be requiring Stuy town to hand over the security footage.
What a disgusting bunch of pigs--stuytown management, rick, public safety, and yes, 13th precinct as well. takes a pig to find these pig tenants to rent to I guess.
My friends and I all are keen on getting NYC Real on camera/video. We keep our iPhones and IPads on "Camera" almost all of the time. If one of us had been in the elevator where the lady was assaulted by the naked psycho/druggie, I PROMISE you it would have been all over the internet, social media, Facebook, etc. within minutes! We are keeping an eye on 626. We are aware of what a slimy DICK we have running this place.
Again, I do not know the full story. Maybe other people know, but I don't and am following this as best as I can. And, again, there has to be a statement from Management about the two related incidents.
I find it interesting you didn't post my comment and I'm a resident of 626. Makes me wonder what criteria you use. It's your blog of course but your censorship is disturbing.
Why does there have "to be a statement from Management..."? They do as they please, and tenant concerns about ANYTHING are their last priority. If there's a statement in future, it will be Rick's typical PR/BS. The "full story" will never be known....
>>I find it interesting you didn't post my comment and I'm a resident of 626. Makes me wonder what criteria you use. It's your blog of course but your censorship is disturbing.<<
If it's your post, you mentioned the floor and not just the building. Sorry, but with the "Paul Kersey" types around, it's not going to happen. You can, though, say if you have heard nothing from Management, as I don't live in that building.
It was my post. I get the 'Death Wish' connection. It's public record since the apartment was already posted on the Tenant's Association FB site. The residents of 626 know the 'offending apt.' It's hardly a secret. I know the victim.
I think the floor number was already mentioned.
The guy has moved into a hotel and probably won’t be returning,
>>I think the floor number was already mentioned.<<
Yes, the floor was mentioned on another blog, but another reference to the floor (or floors, as one of the floors is in error) may have been taken down.
>>probably won’t be returning<<
Probably is not good enough for many. And that is part of the problem. The other problem is that the other person (the younger person) has not said anything so far. Management has not said anything, too.
If Management thinks they can cover up the incident, they are wrong.
"If Management thinks they can cover up the incident, they are wrong."
That's EXACTLY what they're doing. A definite cover-up!
I don't think that this is something that Management would consider appropriate for public dissemination, and quite rightly. When we had a mentally ill person living in my building and he terrorized a lot of people, Management got rid of him I knew him and the people he was terrorizing and I know that Management and PS did everything right. As the offender was in situ (unlike the current situation under discussion), Management had a security guy sit out in the hall all night on the floor where he lived.
It wasn't on my floor, but I do know my neighbors who were being harassed did not go public on fb or on this blog about the situation. I think that would have not been helpful to anybody.
He even had the nerve to go to Yelp and tell a story of being harassed out of his apartment! I guess Yelp doesn't check the veracity of some of the complaints and it should.
My only beef with Management is the lack of heat. That they don't do well.
"If Management thinks they can cover up the incident, they are wrong."
It's nobody's business except the people involved. I'm sure a lot of things happen here that we don't hear about and there's no reason why we should. So long as Management deals with it, it doesn't have to be run up a flagpole.
Btw, I am no pro-management or a member of Management. I'm a long term tenant and all I want is heat. Things happen between neighbors and they get taken care of and don't need to go on Fox News.
But what is "appropriate for public dissemination"? By Blackstone standards nothing that is negative. Only "happy" news is to be talked about. Not my style.
"It's nobody's business except the people involved."
Wrong. Categorically wrong. Extremely, stupidly wrong.
The victim called the police. For SOME UNKNOWN REASON, however, the incident never seems to have been recorded and doesn't appear in the citizen app. Incidents like these, PARTICULARLY assaults by naked men upon these female residents, are always a matter of public record.
The victim, incidentally, clearly has no problem publicizing not only the event but her own name as well, on a public facebook page--and why shouldn't she? she did nothing wrong here--and the name of the assailant should be public record as well, as it ALWAYS is in cases such as these. even if this man never goes to court, he committed assault.
The victim is entitled to know the man's name, so she can avoid him in the future, and so is the rest of the public. And she would know his name, if that a$$hold Rick Dick haydick had not removed everyone's name from their door.
"When we had a mentally ill person living in my building and he terrorized a lot of people, Management got rid of him I knew him and the people he was terrorizing"
I think you meant to say, management did everything wrong, no?
What the hell do you think this guy did after management "got rid of him"?? hmmmm?
he went on to lead a blameless life, totally without incident, and ceased harassing anyone henceforth?
lol of course he did not. he went on to his next residence where he pulled the same crap he did here, I'm sure--and that is why we have a thing called ACCOUNTABILITY. you report these incidents to the police, they make a record of them, and when these people finally take it a step too far and injure or kill someone, there's a record of their past behavior, often going back for years, that can be taken into account when deciding how to deal with them.
you might take a second to think of the next person who has to deal with these mentally ill people, before you breathe a sigh of relief that they're out of your life. You are not the only person in the world. think about someone else for one second.
god almighty it is almost exactly like people commenting here have no experience whatsoever living in a big city with a large and constantly increasing percentage of mentally ill
the guy may or may not have checked into a hotel--the only verification for this is the word of the "partner" whatever that means, or room mate--I would be extremely surprised if any hotel is accepting reservations right now, so I don't believe this--
but regardless, it's not like the guy can't come back whenever he wants to, even if he did leave temporarily
there have been no consequences for this guy and therefore he can reoffend whenever he wants, and probably will if the mood strikes him.
I'm not sure why people are acting like this is some big secret that no one should pry into--the guy committed an assault against an elderly woman (and possibly another person.)
this is a crime. end of story. he has lost his right to privacy when he started beating up the elderly woman in the elevator.
I think the victim should take out an Order of Protection against the man who assaulted her. Hayduk is not going to help. He doesn't like to get involved in what's happy happy "Are we having fun yet campers" so don't even expect a word of sympathy for that poor apology of a man and of a manager. Turn to family, friends and good neighbors for support and I'm sure there are professional counselors who can help.
Hayduk doesn't like to deal with anything negative or unhappy. So he won't let you burst his bubble of pretend.
He should get a job as a cruise director, preferably on one of those Covid-19 infested ships where nobody's allowed off.
As a property manager, he is a total Fuck Up.
Hey!
Zero heat again.
Pipes are ice cold.
Temperature is 64 degrees in my apartment. BELOW LEGAL MINIMUM.
What a shock!
Thanks, Rick!
Remember, we're all "community"....hahaha
Is Blackstone paying the perp's hotel bill as part of their cover-up? Whose name is on the lease? The perp? The "partner"? Both of them? The victims' lawyers--if they have them--should also sue these 2 individuals in Civil Court.

and the front doors are open so the wind whips right through the whole building in case you weren't cold enough, and in case you don't get covid they want you to get pneumonia. But hey those violating the stay at home order and the AirBnBers need to get in without touching that one door so I get it. Priorities, right Beam Living...zero stars...

Blackstone is being instructed by its lawyers and insurers. They.will not say or do anything that could be construed as an admission of liability. It's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$. Rick doesn't give a rats ass about the lives, safety and wellbeing of residents. The lady needs a lawyer and should not expect any help from the godless Ruck and his masters.
The incidents happened on Tuesday the 21st of April. Today it is the 27th. No public word from Management.
"What the hell do you think this guy did after management "got rid of him"?? hmmmm?

I don't know what happened to the guy after he got evicted. He's probably doing the same thing somewhere else. He seemed to have plenty of money. Neither Management nor the tenants are in a position to be his on-going carers/keepers. This is where family and mental health services (to the extent they exist) have to take over.
I'm a recent college grad living in Stuytown and I'm a bit confused as to what you old-timers are complaining about. Just like any old apartment complex in NYC, you're going to have issues like inconsistent heat, broken amenities, and dumb neighbors doing dumb things. As someone who HAS been in-and-out of several different apartments just within the past four years (Waterside Plaza, View 34, and more), I can tell you that Stuytown is no worse than your typical NYC apt. complex.
True, management is not great. Yes, your neighbors are going to be playing loud music some nights. Sure, you're going to run into dog walkers in the Oval who don't leash their dogs properly. These are all a given if you're living in NYC. If you're expecting better ambiance then clearly you should look into paying more for a luxury apartment. Stuytown is not for you.
You seem surprised that Management is covering up the incident at 626 from a week ago?
Also, I didn't see anything in Town & Village newspaper about it either.
Can you say 'CORRUPTION?'
>>True, management is not great. Yes, your neighbors are going to be playing loud music some nights. Sure, you're going to run into dog walkers in the Oval who don't leash their dogs properly. I am expecting consciousness and concerned service. By "concerned," I mean for the residents, not making more money for potential residents. Spinning, if you will. I realize that all landlords will do an amount of spinning for their property, but this one spins all the time.
I also have been lied to by Management, and they are performing acts that go against city laws. They do not care as long as they can get away with it.

"These are all a given if you're living in NYC."
Rube alert.
"Stuytown is not for you."
This rube also throws in the "move to" line.
Sad.
They charge luxury rents for some (many) of these apartments, but run it like a NYCHA project. Management doesn't give a damn about the tenants and what some of them have to go through. If Rick Hayduk would put as much energy into making the place more livable as he does into coming up with silly "entertainment" and putting out his driveling bulletins, we would be much happier. He has made the quality of life worse since taking over. He's a completely out of his depth in the job he does. Maybe he managed resorts well, but he certainly does not manage this property well.
"I also have been lied to by Management, and they are performing acts that go against city laws. They do not care as long as they can get away with it."
One example is his removing the directories that were by the mailboxes in the lobbies. He put them back when he was forced to because he had broken NYS law by removing them. He made a total cock-up of putting them back as is evidenced by so many mistakes and tenants listed as "Private" when they wanted their names to be restored. He also failed to put back the names of people who are on a joint lease and have different last names. Many couples go by by his and hers last names and his actions are an insult to women who choose to keep their "maiden" names. I guess that doesn't gel with his old school feelings of women being secondary to their husbands. Also there are a lot of same-sex couples who are fully entitled to have both names listed on the directories. The man is a total neanderthal.
>>I am expecting concerned and responsible service. By "concerned," I mean for the residents, not making more money for potential residents. Spinning, if you will. I realize that all landlords will do an amount of spinning for their property, but this one spins all the time.<<
Same college grad here. It seems unreasonable to expect a profit-seeking corporation to empathize with our situation as residents. Their end goal is to make money, not to make all their residents happy. The elderly are clearly not their target customer anymore; they aren't able to raise rents as long as there are long-standing residents living in their units. Management is rude, management is profit-hungry, management won't listen to your complaints. Why should they? They want to vacate as many of the old residents as possible.
Now, all of that is unethical. My point is that times have changed and Management is marketing to the younger residents that play loud music/walk their dogs/don't follow the unspoken rules of Stuytown. These residents will stay for a few years at most, so what's the incentive for Management to put effort into "concerned and responsible service". I empathize with your situation in that our landlords are terrible, but they just don't have any motivation to put in the extra effort.
"I'm a recent college grad living in Stuytown and I'm a bit confused as to what you old-timers are complaining about. Just like any old apartment complex in NYC,"
What makes you think it is only old-timers who are complaining? Read the TA facebook page and you will see that the majority of complaints are made by people living in the renovated high-rent apartments.
That "recent college graduate" seems totally unconcerned with the total devolution of American society, and New York City/Stuyvesant Town in particular. Not everyone here can afford to move into "a luxury apartment". And he/she will also be an "old-timer" one day. I guess the term "dumb neighbor" describes YOU perfectly.
Stuytown is not for you.
What. The. Fuck?
#1: It’s Stuyvesant Town, or Stuy Town for short, or PCVST but never “stuytown”. That’s Blackstone marketing shtick.
#2: I’ve been here since 1984, you just got here. And you’re telling me?
Thanks for clueing us natives on what NYC apartment living is like. Always good to get a fresh perspective from a clueless new arrival.
It is a dorm dump, full of transients and students. No amenities for luxury prices.College grad who loves it here, you are likely sharing an space with at least two other renters. Otherwise you wouldn’t think this place is so great.
I feel so sorry for the poor lady in 626 who was assaulted by a naked crazy who also kicked her dog. Hayduk goes out of his way to try to tout this place as being a "Good Neighbor" residential complex, but when an elderly neighbor is assaulted by a neighbor he treats her like shit. I heard the crazy guy when he was running around near the Oval, but I couldn't see him (would have videoed it if I could see it). The poor woman who was assaulted is traumatized and suffering, but does Hayduk reach out to her and off words of consolation and support? No. Of course not. That horrible incident doesn't fit in with his rosy-glow depiction of the property he so badly mis-manages.
This man is biggest loser we have ever had running this place. He should be fired immediately. He has been a disaster from Day 1.
They are marketing to students, transients, and groups of unrelated roomies. They will pack 3 or 4 into an apartment. They come in and out every 6 months. Anything to fill apartments college grad. This used to be a family community. Plus , heat is a necessity and not an amenity. They have no right to blast music all summer in a residential space. College grad, I bet that you will be gone soon.
I doubt if college grad will be here long. Sounds like she has already been in a few different locations.
College grad likely got a good share deal here.
"Die," and "we'll help you/make sure you sicken and die."
THAT IS THE NEW MESSAGE FROM "MANAGEMENT."
Why? How?
Although the message on the Resident "Services" telephone line immediately invokes "Corona Virus" and uses language such as "URGENT" and "EMERGENCY" regarding repair requests,
We were sent a CORONA VIRUS threat tonight in the form of Rick's latest CORONA VIRUS UPDATE 14.
The word "threat" is used because he or he-and-whomever have "DECIDED TO OPEN THE LAWNS BEGINNING TOMORROW." In addition, many PLAYGROUNDS ARE BEING OPENED FRIDAY.
He included this: . . . MY SUSPICION THIS WEEKEND WILL BRING AN OVERWHELMING NUMBER OF RESIDENTS OUTSIDE.
Please, STR: do NOT censor this. BLACKSTONE IS NOW NAKEDLY, OPENLY INSTITUTING ACTIONS WHICH WILL LIKELY RESULT IN THE INFECTION OF RESIDENTS AND OTHERS WITH COVID-19. WHICH COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS ILLNESS, EXTREME SUFFERING. And DEATH. Literally.
The pandemic continues. People are still becoming ill, some seriously. People in NYC are still dying in the hundreds.
Keeping in the house is still asked of people. MASKS ALWAYS WHEN AROUND OTHERS IS STILL NECESSARY.
It is already a horror show out there with growing numbers of human viruses acting in ways guaranteed to sicken and KILL other humans. Walking is a really bad idea because the toxin that is humanity is out there in substantial numbers infecting others with the "Fuck you" attitude one human male hurled at me today.
SO NOW RICK DELIBERATELY INVITES HUNDREDS OF POSSIBLY INFECTED (AND THEREFORE POTENTIAL KILLERS) OUTSIDE TO "PLAY" ON THE POOR GRASS AND "PLAY" IN THE PLAYGROUNDS.
The 'SECOND WAVE' of this pandemic is already being prepared for. Rick and his associates don't want a 'second wave.' They ARE MAKING SURE THIS FIRST KILLING DISEASE DOES NOT LEAVE STUYVESANT TOWN/PETER COOPER VILLAGE, BUT LIVES HERE AND KILLS PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE SPRING AND SUMMER INTO THE FALL.
Same college grad here. Again, I've been moving in and out of different apartments every single year, each time viewing more than 5 apartments before settling down, and so am semi-qualified to make these statements. If you've been living here for a couple decades, then you might not have as fresh of a perspective of how desperate the rental market is in NYC. Supply and demand.
"Dorm dump" is an interesting way to describe Stuy Town, and I can see where you are coming from. The "luxury apartment comment" wasn't meant to be offensive, it's just the harsh reality of your situation. Stuy Town is considered fairly affordable by NYU/Baruch students esp. when shared with roommates. As a result, the apartment complex is going to be filled up with a bunch of rumbunctious loud 20-somethings who drink and party. That's not everyone's cup of tea, but you're going to be stuck with them, and their replacements, for a very very long time. Just off the top of my head, I know of 3 units currently occupied by graduating seniors that are going to be passed off to their younger classmates.
I emphasize with people who have lived here for a long time, but sorry, the problem isn't going away soon. Unless Rick decides to bump up everyone's rent so that units are no longer "affordable" for college students.
Hypothetical question for our well educated new arrival.
You go to a restaurant (remember those?). The room is crowded, dirty. The food sucks. The waitstaff is rude and inattentive. It’s a lousy experience.
Now, do you shrug your shoulders and say, “Hey, it’s a business, they’re here to make money”, and keep it to yourself? Or do you tell everyone you know the place is awful and overpriced?
That’s the point of this blog, and the commenters on it.
On another blog, I saw Rick's new message to residents and a photo of someone wearing a Happy Face mask. Of course, "Good Neighbor" was mentioned. I really think Rick is an idiot. There I said it. Oh, and hi, Rick.
>>....I emphasize with people who have lived here for a long time, but sorry, the problem isn't going away soon. Unless Rick decides to bump up everyone's rent so that units are no longer "affordable" for college students.<<
You are correct in your assessment, but that doesn't speak glowingly of Management. I will say, though, not many, even those college students, consider this property affordable for the new apartments. Nice greenery and space outside, but hardly affordable.

Grad Gal/Guy just very, very clearly made it obvious why Rick cannot keep the Directories updated and accurate. He doesn't have a CLUE as to who lives here!
This virus will keep recurring if these stupid people around here do not observe social distancing and face coverings. In Target today a dumb coed was on line in front of one of the red markers talking on her phone. What does she think the red markers are for? And our the goddamn phones away so you can see what you are doing. On my way home I observed a mask less lowlife spitting in a trash can. (A resident). Good luck Pig stuy and neighborhood keeping this virus out.
The Cruise Director jus sent his latest bulletin. BINGO!
His bulletins, ever increasing, are BS. They are absurd with their little games and gimmicks. He would be better off enforcing face coverings and social distance here.
This "college graduate" doesn't seem to know the difference between "emphasize" and "empathize." I am willing to bet he/she studied Business or Marketing in school. Actually, probably didn't really study much at all--spent most of their time there boozing and hooking-up.
I have emailed everyone on my email list (which is extensive) telling them what a nasty, badly-managed and dangerous shit hole this is. I've told them about how we have wussy pussy "Public Safety" who don't like dealing with belligerent people who are endangering others; how a 74 year old lady was punched and her dog kicked by a naked assailant TENANT who then ran naked outside and terrified a 16 year old girl. I've told them about Management's indolent idiot of a Manager just brushed the woman aside and offered not even a word of concern and sympathy. Also how the property is swarming with undergrad students and there is a revolving door of tenancy who are totally unknown to Management and Management doesn't care anyway.
I've asked them to forward it to everyone on their email lists. The more word gets around about what we have to endure here, the less their very high advertising budget is going to make a dent.
This is truly a horrible place to live and it gets worse and worse all the time. I don't know how they recruited the Supreme Idiot who manages this place, but they must have got him at a bargain salary because he is about as useful as tits on a boar hog. What does he do apart from sending out dumb emails about dumb things? He must think we are a bunch of four-year olds or mentally impaired. Unbelievable. Strange world we live in now.
Stuy Town = Dorm Dump
