Banning the Leaf Blowing

Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village constantly use leaf blowing, despite their promotion at being a sustainable community, reducing greenhouse emissions and LEED certification. (That certification costs money, and the building complex is not inspected again.) Leaf blowing is a heath hazard. We are told that even after the leaves have been blow way, the blowers "put into the air little fragments of leaves, and other dust which could be irritating, and could aggravate asthma with exposure. Additionally, there are the exhaust fumes from gas-powered blowers." Here, in this complex which encourages dogs, there is the certainly that particles of dog refuse can be traveling in the air with these blowers. Yummy!

I have seen, and personally was "blown" by such leaf blowers, who use their blowers in the morning, when people are going to work (and later, too). Typically people off to work try to avoid the blowers, but this avoidance is every brief. Residents frequently pass through the kicked-up air on their way to work, shop, or, if they are younger, school. Stuyvesant is too small for the amount of people in the complex to allow this. And we are not even mentioning Covid or other viruses that may be put into the air briefly.

The reason Stuyvesant Town uses leaf blowing is that it gets the job done quickly. That's it. Before, rakes were used, but that takes time and taking time costs Blackstone money. But the rules may be changing, legally. There is a state bill up that may prohibit leaf blowers. Of course, our City Council (which got a pay raise of over 33%) should adopt this resolution, too, and sooner rather than later (or never). Perhaps, our councilman, Keith Powers, can introduce this legislation and work toward its implementation?

Stuyvesant Town is doing residents a harm with these leaf blowers. Management and Blackstone should know it. But, even if they don't, they are warned now. Next is a lawsuit if nothing changes.

We are getting less heat this year than we got under Hayduk. I think he pegged it at 72. Now 70 is the max and that is NOT comfortable, especially as the temperature in my apartment never gets out of sixties unless I have a space heater on.

Blackstone is worse than Tishman Speyer and MetLife and neither of those entities was flush with the spirit of human kindness. It seems that as a landlord Blackstone is The Kiss of Death.

'One would think that on Christmas Eve we would get a puff of heat. How naive and foolish off me! Nothing like having a space heater in the same room as the tree. True vile, unscrupulous, blood sucking, soulless ghouls who run this place.'

When there is a catastrophic fire caused by people having no alternative but to use space heaters, Blackstone/BeamLiving will be responsible. Management should change its name to BeamDying or BeamKilling. They really are avaricious, bloodsucking ghouls. I don't know how anybody with a conscience can work for them - at least at a managerial level. They are the destroyers of life and happiness in the way they treat their tenants. Charles Dickens would have enjoyed writing about such evil people. Bleak House comes to mind.

38 degrees outside, not a puff of heat and it's Christmas Eve. Like Christmas in the Workhouse.

F*ck you Nadeem and your rotten team. You have to be the worst property manager in the world. You should be running a Dickensian Workhouse instead of residential property in the 21st Century. I don't know (or care) where you came from, but please go back there.

It makes my blood run cold when I think of the likes of him running a children's home or a senior living property or a home for disabled children. He's of the type that make such places HELLHOLES. He does it here and gets away with it no matter how much we complain, but we do have the choice to move on and let everybody know what the story is. The aforementioned victims do not. This place is as vile as a residential property can get, but we can leave (and very many of us are). Thank God it's not an institution or "special school" with the Blackstone ilk running it.

No heat today. Thank God for space heaters.

Go to Hell Beam Living.

Anonymous said...

It really IS like Christmas Day in the Workhouse! We have had no heat all day long. It's too cold in the bathroom to even bathe! What a shithole this place has become under the direction of these bloodsucking assholes. And all the TA can come up with is a tour of the heating system! The legal minimum heat is not intended to make tenants comfortable, just to make sure they don't die from hypothermia. We are paying market rate for substandard conditions. I really think it is time for a rent strike. A REAL TA would organize a rent strike.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely no heat all day. This place is beyond disgusting. It is dangerous.

Has anybody seen the Beam Living App? It's for Happy Residents. LOL! ROTFLMAO!

We have no heat and can't contact RS because they are closed. What a vile, bunch of heinous ghouls these "Beam Living" scumbags are. They are killing us with the denial of heat and the building of fossil fuel power stations, not to mention the weak-as-water "Public Safety" little boys. This is a total HELLHOLE and they have the balls to try to get us to recommend a friend for a big $500 each. Are they for real?

Anonymous said...

Before I put two powerful space heaters on my thermometer registered 62. This is the kind of "living" that Beam Living offers? They really ARE trying to kill the long term tenants. They are not only killing those long term tenants (who don't resort) to space heaters, but it is dangerous for babies and people who are unwell to have to living with such low temperatures. Beam Living is more suited to running a prison camp than a residential apartment complex. I dread to think what Blackstone's "resorts" are like! They must be run by sadists to accommodate masochists. No sex involved. Just MISERY.

There's some little piece of shit car that parks on the 14th Street Loop (Ave A end) and takes off in the early hours (between 1 AM and 2 AM) and sounds like an airplane taking off. "Keep on voting for the same people, that's the plan... I'm sure wishful thinking will be productive."

Who should we vote for, STR? They are all rotten. Giuliani was a racist lunatic; Bloomberg only cared about the rich and he despised the poor; DeBozo is a total NOTHING - just a big pile of talk-a-lot shit. His so-called Progressive Agenda has achieved nothing. He spends other people's money on fruitless and nebulous runs for higher office that he will NEVER achieve.

The CC is made up of dolts. All they do is work hard at currying favor with wealthy and influential landlords and don't give a flying f*ck about their constituents. Whether it's Powers, Garodnik, Quinn, Stringer - all of em - they are in it for themselves. Maloney always shows up, but what does she achieve? I don't vote anymore because I think it is a waste of time. Not one of these ambitious, self-serving parasites gives a shit about the constituents. Maybe Hoylman is the exception. I've heard good things about him.

Who would you suggest we vote for, STR? The same people are running all the time. I did vote for Sliwa, but he was unsuccessful. The City has gone to hell on DeBozo's watch. We have more murder and mayhem than when Abe Beam was Mayor. Yes, I AM that old! Not quite in my dotage, but can remember Abe Beam and was mugged, held up at knife-point and gun-point on more than one occasion and knew people who also were victimized like that but didn't survive.

It really doesn't matter who is in office because they are all basically the same - opportunistic parasites who seek higher office in order to feather their own nests.

64 degrees on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Texted on Sunday at 5 pm and got an email on Tuesday at 4 pm to call.

How can people be so heartless?!!!

Our landlord is on the payroll of the politicians who pretend to to care fotr and enforce the rules of habitability. Powers, (Garodnick before him) are all on the Payroll. Just buy a couple of good (and safe) space heaters and don't expect any heat from this Slumlord. Nadeem whatsisface is a NOTHING. Probably recruited fro a news stand. He has as much knowledge about running a place like this as I have about running a Medical Center!

He is a total ZERO and we are stuck with him as the "Resident Manager". What a joke, but a sick joke that we all have to live with.

I think at this point a Rent Strike would at least stand a chance, but I prefer to retaliate in my own way and which I won't go into here.

He is a NOTHING and will never be anything more than a NOTHING, so don't even bother communicating with him.

Instead, contact the City's website concerning shitty landlords: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nycha/about/contact.page

Contact the NYT, NYPost and NYMail snd tell them what we have to go through with this slumlord. Keep on keeping on (I do!) and eventually wear them down.

If you have any contacts in the National Press, please try to get them on board.

Management and its scum surrogates, be warned. You are going to be in the news bigly very soon.

Nadeem, get out now before you are rounded up. We know you are mentally deficient, so get out soon or you will be in the same boat as the filth you answer to.

70 degrees isn't even all that toasty.

This Nadeem creature is totally useless. He does nothing, says nothing (his emails are not written by him, I assure you) and, in all likelihood, knows nothing about running this type of property.

He is just a Blackstone Stooge, put in place to occupy a position he knows nothing about and is not competent to hold such a position he knows nothing about;

I wish Blackstone would tear the property down and pay us to go away. It would have to be a good price though.

Anybody tried to get Renters Insurance in this deathtrap? I'll tell ya it can't be had. Everybody out there knows we have to use space heaters throughout the cold months and there are no sprinklers. Also is a mainly transient semi-tenancy for most.

There is a long thread on the Tenants (not TA) facebook about stolen packages and PS denying that they received any report even though the tenant had gone to PS and filed a report. Maybe the little boys in PS are the ones who are stealing the packages? Maybe they are the ones who are taking the packages onto the stairs, removing the merchandise and leaving the empty packages. They are not real "security" officers. They are mall cops, though I doubt any mall would employ such dopes.

Nadeem is either mentally deficient or he is just a prop. They have to have someone listed as General Manager, but that doesn't mean that it's a real position. He is clearly not interested in doing the job and it could be Blackstone owed a favor to someone and agreed to hire their mentally challenged son.

There are many unsavory things going on here from the poisonous power plants to the lack of maintenance of the rubbish elevators to planting a person with less intelligence that a door knob in the "Managing" position. Something very sleazy about PS when they take reports, say they will view the camera footage and then deny that such a report was ever made. The woman who heads up PS is supposed to be a former cop, but I have my doubts about her.

We need the National Press or Media to do an in-depth inquiry into Beam Living and its dubiously honest employees. At best they are inept; at worst they are criminals.

"We will never get a so called competent manager. The company is purposely running this place into the ground. Doesn’t matter who the manager is. It is a purposeful destruction."

I tend to agree with you, though I really can't imagine why they are doing this. Maybe they want to clear the place out and tear it down. I can't think of any other reason. I do believe that they are trying to get rid of (kill off) the older long-term tenants by withholding heat. The two old ladies next door to me sleep in their living room with their coats and little wooly hats on. Their bedroom is like a walk-in freezer and even when the heat is on, their radiator only gets warm and doesn't throw out any heat.

I suspect they will try to get rid of all real "tenants" and only rent to students and transients because a real tenancy is more trouble than the transients. For real tenants they are required to keep up a certain level of habitability and that costs money and effort - something they are not willing to engage in. I have no intention of moving out unless they offer me a very big enticement! I won't let their harassment be an incitement! I'll kick back at them with great gusto! Certainly won't be intimidated by a bunch of sleazy thugs no matter how wealthy the Blackstone/Beam Living cabal is. Much as I like a quiet, peaceful life, I am up for a good fight if it is worth the effort!
Blackstone/BL has the integrity and morals of the Mob. Just the filthiest scum of the earth who would eat their own young.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It doesn’t matter. Management fills the expensive rentals in with students, transients and corporation rentals. There is also an ever increasing city subsidized flow in here as well as tourist airbnbs. They can fill these apartments.

Anonymous said...

The word is spread. Does no good. Beam Living has a great system going. Deals with the city, NYU and other schools, tourist agencies, corporations and Airbnb. Nothing is done about the rentals, heat, etc because our councilman looks the other way. I believe that they rent individual rooms here.

Anonymous said...

@ January 1: you think the councilman rents individual rooms here or that the LL rents out rooms to whomever? Nothing would surprise me at this point. The place has become unlivable for regular tenants who just want to call it "home."

Anonymous said...

I agree with 1-1-22 at 2:20pm. It does not matter who people on this blog know, and who they can spread the word to. Stuy Town/Beam have no interest in the relationships and connections of people on this blog, which is why they never take positive actions against the thousands of complaints that have been posted on here over the past decade plus.

The bottom line is that they want as few long term tenants living here as possible. The more students and short term rentals that they have, the easier it will be for them to raze this place when the day eventually comes that either Blackstone or a future owner wants to do that.

Anonymous said...

I love my apartment, though not so much the property and the way it's been f**ked over. If they want me out they'll have to buy me out. Been here almost 30 years and have seen the way it has gone downhill. STEEPLY downhill. But, I have nothing to do with their asinine events, facilities, etc. Don't even do my laundry here and have never set foot in Oval Food Poisoning Cafe (which is what I've heard it is noted for), but I do love my apartment and they won't get me out without a big, big struggle and fuss. I live in the apartment I rent, have a few nice neighbors who I'm friendly with (some long term and some newbies), but I don't get into anybody's business, don't let anybody get into mine and I run two large space heaters throughout the winter to deal with "Management's" inability or refusal to supply adequate heat. I've never really had to call the so-called services because my friend comes over and fixes any necessary repairs. He's a professional and does better work than the LL's employees are capable of these days. So, BlackHole, just take my rent (pretty low rent ha ha) and leave me the f*ck alone and if you ever want my apartment back, you will have a fight on your hands unless you pony up big bucks.

I know quite a few "long-term" tenants with the same attitude and self-sufficiency, so don't look forward to popping champagne corks when we croak because we ain't THAT old and don't try any harassment shit because we fight back. Also, some of us (not me personally) have kids with succession rights and they won't go away.

There is a VERY interesting and informative post by a retired Police Sargent on the TA fb page. It is about the theft of packages that goes on here and the total disinterest and inefficiency of our "Public Safety" crew. He recommends calling the 13th Precinct about thefts. It seems PS doesn't have anything on their video records and also have no inclination or interest in looking at the video footage.
That begs another question: WHY THE HELL ARE WE PAYING AN MCI FOR THESE VIDEO CAMERAS IF THEY ARE NOT UTILIZED TO PREVENT CRIME AND APPREHEND CRIMINALS? In face, why the hell do we have a Public Safety crew at all? They are pretty useless at the best of times. If you have a problem (even if it's because you believe someone is in distress) you have to call several times before they will send a little boy over to check. Calling 911 works faster.
We used to have a great Security Department which was staffed by real MEN who were well-trained. Now we have Sonny Jim. Is that Fran Martin a real law-enforcement officer or a House Mother to the Sonny Jims?

25 degrees outside and these bastards are not providing any heat. Somebody needs to go to jail for this. They are DELIBERATELY trying to exterminate the elderly and sick. They are also putting babies and children at risk.

There's a special place in Hell waiting for Nadeem and the scum who take their orders from him. They could raise the heat if they wanted to. They can override the sensors that are pegged at such a low level. These apartments are drafty. Cold whistles under the doors from the freezing cold halls. Even with a draft rug, it still gets in. The windows don't close properly in many cases and they are not thermal windows anyway. I know it was the filth at MetLife (BenMoishe is at least warm now) who had these useless windows installed and had the non-functional heating system installed, but something could have been done about them since then. We are still paying for windows that are no better than the leaky old crap they replaced and which had been in since 1947.

So, no jail for most people. Crime with no consequences.

There is no way crime is going to improve and the conditions will continue to deteriorate.

PS is pretty useless at this point. I had a package taken about a year ago. I had seen it in the morning as I was leaving for the day. It was too heavy to take with me. When I returned it was gone. Public safety did not even respond to my complaint. That Fran is apparently a retired officer. Like Hayduk , I understand that she schmoozes tenants to ingratiate herself with them. One of my friends adores her, but doesn’t mention the condition of PS and it’s ineffectiveness.

This place really has no management to speak of. They are just rent collectors. All they want is the rent and whatever they pull in from the low bar "events" and concession stands, e.g. Oval Cafe, etc. Don't ever buy ice cream from that ice cream van "Pete's Scoops" I think it is called. The original vendor quit in disgust a long time ago. I've heard it is not kept up to City Public Health standards. In fact, I don't think any of the places where food is served (places owned by LL) are up to Health Code requirements.

Public Safety is a joke. Most of those guys couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag. The Security Force we used to have were real men who knew how to do the job and they did it well.

PCVST is no more. The way the property is right now, it is an insult to that old name. It's a SHITHOLE and is run by a bunch of incompetents who couldn't run a candy stand. No training. No talent. No integrity.

This is why we can't get renters insurance here. I know several people who use space heaters and they aren't all elderly. Young people feel the cold too! It's hard to relax in an apartment that is constantly chilly. It's hard to sleep and it is a health hazard for babies and young children as well as people who are not feeling well. This despicable parody of a Manager has put the health and safety of thousands of people in jeopardy for the sake of notching up the heat level a couple of degrees. Most of the time the heat is off. The pipes are cold and we have no choice but to get a space heater or put the oven on. The oven causes fumes and is very unsafe; space heaters are a fire risk. Don't forget that most of the apartments here are not fireproof. Walls have been torn down and a fire would rage through an apartment within seconds. We also have no sprinkler system. I can't wait to get out of here and will advise everybody I ever meet going forward to avoid this place. Parents of college kids who dorm here deserve to know that this is a nasty, dangerous and horribly run housing project.

We should NOT be expected to live with no heat in this kind of weather. I think the slums this dump replaced couldn't have been much worse (regarding heat) than what we have to deal with here.

Anonymous said...

Management must be aware of the heat (or lack thereof) problem. So many people complain and if they think that they are going to entice current residents to recommend this place to their friends, then they are stupid as well as cruel. At this point, only students will put up with the terrible living conditions because they are crammed in (illegally) and probably don't care that it's cold. I know people with college kids and they would never allow their kids to live here. There are plenty of other off-campus dorms in the City. I think that only the out-of-town kids rent here.
It's really shameful that PCVST has deteriorated from being a very sought-after place to live that was so well run to becoming a nasty, unheated, uncared-for scruffy dorm. No wonder real renters with leases are moving out and even breaking their leases. No wonder they can't entice people to rent here and call it "home."

They get away with it because they can get away with it. It needs everybody who is suffering from lack of heat to report the problem to HPD and keep on reporting it to HPD. It would also be helpful if we had a real Tenants Association who would do more than kiss Management's ass and arrange for tours of the heating system! And they have the nerve to ask for annual dues! I just saw a piece on NY1 about some NYCHA buildings that had been without heat since Thanksgiving. I think these are NYCHA complexes that have been given over to private management companies. Very bad idea. They probably have a similar management to the one we have. NY1 and complaints to the City has resulted in restored heat for those tenants.

I wish NY1 would come over here! Our heat situation is appalling. Almost everybody I know here uses a space heater out of sheer necessity. Damn the TA for welcoming these filthy vultures. Maybe they couldn't have stopped them, but they welcomed them with open arms.

And they have the nerve to answer heat complaint texts saying that 68 is legal limit during the day, but they give well over that limit. Liars.

The Hordes are Here-Welcome Home said...

Which (other) buildings are stuffed full of the garbage this country has managed to produce, garbage we call "young people?"

I live across from 4 Stuyvesant Oval, which has been a nightmare for years. Even with COVID raging again, nothing has changed. This is a typical weekend night. I'm sitting here trying to work, read, write, concentrate. Shrill voices. I look out my window and seven (7) thoughtless, vapid, loud, selfish creatures are walking into the building. As I've written before, one of our "Security" folk told me years ago: these are "the parties BEFORE the parties."

This building, 4 Stuyvesant Oval, has regularly produced dangerous and illegal expressions of "youth" for several years now. As many as FORTY (40) of these dear parasitic children sent to us by so called "parents" from across the country, have spilled out, at the same time, to yell, scream, laugh loudly, for extended periods of time, as they wait for a fleet of cars to drive them to some other party or bar. It could be anywhere from 8 p.m. until about 1:00 a.m. that these HORDES leave through the Terrace entrance and stand outside carrying on until the cars come for them.

Clearly the groups of anywhere from 2 to 6 or 7 or 8 "young people" (I'm trying to be polite and civil. I use other descriptors entirely when I do not censor myself.) who enter the building in waves are walking into our smallish apartments until there are literally as many as 40+ of these vermin in one apartment for the pre-party. They infest that apartment until they scurry out and jam elevators to pour out in front of the building to carry on and disturb any peace and quiet and rest and sleep. I assume they've already put residents of 4 Oval into hell for as long as they've been in that apartment.

I've called Security to inquire about these dangerous numbers in this building, in these apartments. You know the responses I've gotten.

Years back, I realized that the communications from "management" about "entertaining guests" was code for: ALL OF YOU STUDENTS, ATTENTION: GO AHEAD AND INVITE 40 OR 50 OF YOUR "FRIENDS" INTO STUYVESANT TOWN AND PETER COOPER TO DRINK, DRUG, SCREAM, DANCE, (AND MORE - USE YOUR IMAGINATION). WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO BEHAVE IN WAYS THAT UTTERLY AND THOROUGHLY RIP UP THE LEASES OF LEGITIMATE TENANTS.

Our leases guarantee us peace and quiet in our homes.

So . . . no heat; raging pandemic again; surrounding dangerous and filthy environment; strangers in our homes (our buildings), many of whom are these ugly, ugly children.

I ask again: why are any of us paying to be hurt this way???

The next few days are going to be exceptionally cold. I suggest calling 311 repeatedly if you don't have adequate heat. These bastards rely on people having space heaters so that they don't have to address the lack of heat. Not everybody has a space heater, though many do, and those things are an absolute fire hazard. I wonder how many residents are charging the batteries of electric bikes and scooters in their apartments?

No wonder nobody can get renters insurance in this deathtrap.

I view this from a slightly different perspective. I do not expect college aged students, many who are experiencing independence from their parents for the first time, to behave any differently then they do everywhere else across the country and world.

The problem in this instance is that our city has literally been overwhelmed by NYU. The money and power that the university has is incredible. The problem in this community started when the powers that be at Tishman Speyer and NYU signed their first bulk leases in PCV for grad students. Then it was New School bulk leases, and then NYU undergrad bulk leases, and then it was finally undergrad students signing leases independently of NYU or New School.

Yes, the 18-22 year olds that are screeching late at night do carry some blame, but the real blame lies with the people who started and continue to allow bulk leases with universities. It lies with the politicians and TA who have sit back and allowed this to happen for over a decade with absolutely no fight to preserve our quiet community.

Horrendous fire in Bronx high-rise apartment building. Nine children and ten adults dead and dozens more people seriously injured. Heartbreaking tragedy.

They haven't revealed (or determined) the cause of the fire.
I hope it wasn't a space heater being used because a criminally greedy and avaricious landlord refused to provide adequate heat. I live in fear and dread of such a catastrophe occurring here given that we have an inferior, unreliable heating system and a landlord too greedy to provide enough heat for tenants' comfort and safety. Most of the horrific suffering in this world is caused by human greed.

After a couple of days with adequate heat, not good but adequate, my apartment is once again an icebox at 68 degrees. I guess a lot of us called 311 the other day. It is despicable how once the outdoor temperatures go above 30, they immediately turn down the heat. This is a true slum.

Anonymous said...

It has been confirmed that the deadly fire in the Bronx was caused by a space heater. It is a NYCHA building and there was heat. People were using space heaters to supplement the heat. That means that the heat was at a minimal. The bare minimum is what they give us (when we actually get heat). What happened in the Bronx today could happen here.

We have a landlord that cares only about money and not human life. Almost everybody I know who lives here has to supplement the heat with space heaters. Most of the time the level of heat we get doesn't even meet the City's minimum requirements. Many of us live in apartments where the heat doesn't get out of the 60s. Greed and avarice kill people and that is the name of our damned landlord: Greed and Avarice. That is the very definition of Blackstone/Beam Living. Greedy, avaricious scum.

Yes? No?

"Live Updates: Space Heater Blamed for Fire That Killed 19, Including 9 Children

Crews entering the building found victims on every floor. Heavy smoke likely prevented victims from escaping.

A space heater is blamed for the deadly fire in a Bronx apartment building."

-----

This deadly tragedy will be traced to a greedy landlord's refusal to provide sufficient heat.

As predicted many times, it is only a matter of time before Blackstone's greed will inevitably cause a similar disaster(s) here inside STPCV. The essential, corrupt, enabling politicians always asking Blackstone for more money (and receiving it) are already bought and paid for.

We are long term STPCV residents never requiring space heaters until after Blackstone assaulted our community. One recent freezing (21 degrees outside) morning we woke in the middle of the night around 3:30 AM to discover the bedroom temperature was just 53 degrees. It was the inside cold temperature that jarred us awake! The space heaters now operate 24/7 due to greedy Blackstone's ongoing blanket refusal to provide STPCV residents with sufficient heat this winter.

It is now 39 degrees outside and coincidentally for the first time this winter, just during the past 1-2 hours, our STPCV residence is suddenly receiving adequate heat delivery to every room simultaneously. Until tonight it seemed greedy Blackstone's winter policy this year involved delivering short, insufficient, alternating bursts of heat to alternating rooms at alternating times. Coincidence?

Anticipate a flood of complaints about excessive STPCV heat service posted online at the usual locations by the usual Blackstone directed P.R. trolls, including greedy Blackstone's reliable, self-proclaimed "partner" - STPCV TA. Coincidence?

The buildings here will not let a fire go out of control (hopefully) so that the fire reaches and burns other apartments. I have no concerns that what happened in the Bronx will happen here. That said, most of us use space heaters, though last I checked, space heaters are a lease violation, but no one cares, management on down. Yes, the apartments can and do get cold here. I know just by touch that the pipes are COLD. Also the windows do not work the way they were meant to. (Windows we are paying for.) The heat system here does not work properly and it hasn't. And, yes, big money talks. I think most of us are in a "fix."

STR, it wasn't the fire that killed so many people in the tragedy in the Bronx. It was the smoke.

There was a fire on my floor a few years ago (students leaving candles alight when they were not home) and the smoke damaged several apartments on my floor and upstairs and below. What happened in the Bronx COULD happen here.

The City's minimum requirements regarding heat are in order to prevent hypothermia and make sure that slum shysters have to at least give the basic minimum of heat for people to survive. Comfort doesn't enter into the equation. Scum like Blackstone give a tad above the minimum requirement (if we're lucky) in order to protect themselves from prosecution by the City. Again, comfort doesn't enter into the equation.

"Also the windows do not work the way they were meant to. (Windows we are paying for.) The heat system here does not work properly and it hasn't. And, yes, big money talks. I think most of us are in a "fix""
My bathroom window is permanently stuck at about 1 inch open. I cannot close it completely at all. The windows here are the absolute worst. We are paying for garbage. MetLife is to blame for the windows and for the heating system that doesn't work. Some older tenants speak nostalgically about MetLife, but they were not the saints that they are made out to be. They kept the grounds clean and pleasant, but beyond that they were a disgusting landlord. MetLife started the practice of turning the place into a dorm. It was grad students at first, but TS soon jumped onto that bandwagon and turned the property into an unsupervised dorm for undergrads.

True the property nosedived as soon as it was sold (for much more than it was worth), but let's be honest about the fact that MetLife was as greedy and ruthless as any who have followed it.

I heard on the news that the building in the Bronx that had the tragic fire did actually have heat. If it was at the City's mandatory level of a minimum of 68 degrees then it's not surprising that so many people had space heaters. The fire broke out on a low floor. I think that here in the sty the lower floors are colder than the higher floors. 68 degrees is not comfortable. 70 degrees is only slightly better, but not so's you would notice. I think the City needs to change its guidelines and make 74 the minimum required level. That is a comfortable temperature. Not too hot and not too cold. Then we would not need to use space heaters. As it is, almost everybody here runs a space heater and in the unrenovated apartments that are not wired for air conditioning (and are occupied by older people) running a space heater is even more dangerous. Many of the older tenants did not opt-in for air conditioning and so they don't have the electrical outlets that accommodate high-voltage appliances like space heaters.

It is insulting and demoralizing and makes some of us very, very angry. They talk down to us like we are children who have raised their hand to ask to go to the bathroom. "So how badly do you want to pee? When was the last time you peed? Are you sure you want to pee or do you just want to walk around?"

When we call because we have no heat it is because WE HAVE NO HEAT! How much intelligence do these people have that they stoop to insulting our intelligence this way? They are astoundingly gauche and stupid!

I think it is time there was some kind of public expose about this demeaning poor apology for a "Management." They must pay plenty under the table to keep the press coverage at bay. Our so-called "elected representatives" no doubt have their dirty hands out under the same table.

If "management" is going to f*ck with us over the heat, maybe we should f*ck with them over paying the rent. I think the Courts would be in our favor. If we had a TA worthy of being called a TA, they would be organizing a rent strike. But as we don't have such a TA, we have to take matters into our own hands. I've heard it said that if people use space heaters the sensors "think" we have adequate heat and the heat goes off. It's a "which comes first - the chicken or the egg?" situation. Solution: get rid of the damn sensors and send up heat according to the OUTSIDE temperature. That's what most apartment building managements do. At lease the ones that aren't slumlords.

I have two space heaters in my apartment and during the cold months I keep them on 24/7 out of sheer necessity. I don't have sensors in my apartment, but I don't think that makes any difference. The LL chooses not to give us heat and has it pegged at a very low level. Have never lived in such an uncomfortable, miserable dump before and am paying through the nose. So, we had a decent amount of heat today and it was probably because of the tragedy in the Bronx and all the talk about space heaters. About half an hour ago the heat went off and the temperature immediately dropped like a stone. On go my space heaters - one in the bedroom where my son sleeps and one in the bedroom where I sleep. Without the space heaters it would be too cold to sleep regardless of blankets and comforters. These crappy old apartments are drafty and bleak. The windows don't close properly and cold wind whistles through the so-called "radiators" which never get beyond slightly warm to the touch even when we are getting heat.

It seems that the doomed apartment building in the Bronx wasn't a NYCHA building after all. It was a building housing many low-income families, but the landlord was a private company. I wonder if it was any LL we all know and hate?

I was at work the other day when an attorney from one of the law firms my company owns came to my office to tell me about what she was told when she was looking to rent an apartment in Manhattan. You see, several years ago she had a choice between an apartment in Jersey City or Stuy Town. One of her associates told her to talk to me about Stuy Town since I have been here since the 1960's. I told her it was crap now and she would regret moving into Stuy Town but that if she didn't believe me she could check out a website called The Stuy Town Report. She did exactly that and long story short she has enjoyed her Jersey City apartment for several years now. But that's not the funny part. So fast forward to 2021 and she has been promoted to partner beginning 2022 and decides to move into Manhattan finally. So she is working with a broker and she has a lead on an apartment in Battery Park City that she wants but decides to try and haggle. So she says she has to decide between the BPC place or an apartment in Stuy Town. The broker laughs and says "Good Luck with that, you don't seem to be the college student type" and goes on to explain that Stuy Town rents over 50% of it's apartments to college students and that they don't give much heat and the broker says to check out the website The Stuy Town Report to get the truth about living in ST. Then the broker tells her to decide quickly as the BPC apartment will go quickly. With that she thinks she's overplayed her hand and asks the broker to explain why the price difference of about $500 per month. The broker lists free health club with swimming pool, 24 hour doorman, daytime concierge in building as well, discounted parking, rooftop deck, and a balcony. Needless to say she is currently very happy in her apartment in Battery Park City. Two takeaways from this story, 1) don't use a shitty place like Stuy Town to haggle for an apartment and 2) The Stuy Town Report is not just famous but infamous so the Beam Living paid liar who called your website Sock Puppet Theatre can crawl back into their totally incompetent company's cave and go @$*& themselves.

The once-beautiful and pristine grounds of the sty are now splattered with dog shit and most of it is from dogs from outside the property. I have seen so many people walking dogs that are as huge as donkeys and people with several dogs at a time. Clearly, these are dog walkers who bring in dogs from all over the place to shit and piss on the sty grounds. We walk in it and bring it into our homes (which are getting less and less desirable all the time). "Management doesn't give a rat's ass about the rules here and the dangers to our health and safety. We have people using space heaters 24/7 because of the failed heating system and we have dogs shitting and pissing all over the grounds - and frequently in the buildings.
Maybe we should petition Blackstone to get rid of this Nadeem character and to hire somebody competent. Hayduk was a major league BS Artist, but he did at least try in some ways to make the place livable. I remember that he set the heat level at 72, not 70. Nadeem's first winter here and he reduces the minimum to 70. He doesn't even live on the property; he never answers emails, and he is a total failure as a "General Manager."

Before he came here he ran third-rate resorts and if you read the reviews for Blackstone's resorts (don't know which ones Nadeem ran) they are NOT good! Just Google and find them. They are most definitely not high-rated and that is not surprising considering we have a taste of the Blackstone/Beam modus operandi.

We really need to petition the suits on Park Avenue to relieve us of this useless failure of a "Manager." They have to have somebody better than he.

Funny how I'm getting plenty of heat today on a day when it's not needed as much. I'm guessing all the complaints from tenants regarding lack of heat might be having an effect even if it's only temporary.

You have to wonder if Beam Living has abandoned the property at this point since they are so bad at managing the property it's indistinguishable if they are even here anymore. For example, on my way back to my apartment last night as I turned the corner to enter the courtyard outside my building and the building next door I was basically attacked by a large dog off the leash. The same thing had occurred on Monday evening. So I called public safety to inform them of this potentially dangerous situation and they said they would send someone to check it out. Knowing that 99% of the time they do nothing I stated to the PS person that I was aware they would do nothing and hung up. Guess what public safety did??? That's right, NOTHING. I called at 7:45pm and when I sat down to eat dinner at 8:10pm, a full 25 minutes later, I saw that the large dog and it's owner were still there and the dog was running up to every person and every dog that came by as well as ripping up the landscaping. Forget the fact that this has a huge potential liability for Bram Living and Blackstone, no one at Beam Living cares, not even a little. I sent the video to animal control who will hopefully reach out to the incompetents at Beam Living.

Lowering the heat from 72 to 70 (if in fact that's really 'official' policy here) is the inverse of putting a frog in a pot of warm water, and gradually increasing the temperature. Final result is identical. Beam Living's clearly engaged in a race to the bottom.

Nadeem is a nothing. He is fat old useless has-been (or never was) who just has been hired to pretend to be a General Manager. When Hayduk left company the guy (Burke?) who moved into his spot took one look at the dump and bailed out. They have to have a warm body in the GM Chair even if he's "out to lunch" all the time. I doubt that anybody wants the job and there really is nobody at the helm. I don't think anybody except students want to move into here at this point.

This same exact comment was made over and over again about Rick, and it was responded to time and time again that Rick and now Nadeem are the exact people the suits at Blackstone want running this property. Everyone was calling on them to replace the failure Rick, and now look at what we have.

As I said years ago about Rick, and will say again now about Nadeem. Everything the on-site manager (whoever that might be) here does is at the direction of the suits on Park Avenue. If Nadeem were to be replaced tomorrow, the next manager would fall right in line as all that have come before him under Blackstone/Beam.

The horrific and deadly fire in the Bronx was caused by space heaters being used. I read that the building had heat, but it was not warm enough. If it was pegged at the City's minimally mandated level (68 during the day and 62 at night) then the building was NOT warm. Maybe not freezing, but not warm enough to be comfortable and no defense against drafts.

Stuyvesant Town apartments are very drafty. The windows don't hold in the heat or keep out the cold, even when they are closed as tightly as possible. The halls are freezing cold and cold air comes under the door. We can put draft towels against the front door when we are home, but when we leave the apartment there is that big gap under door that lets the cold wind come whistling through! I don't know if Management allows those draft things that are fastened to the bottom of the door. I'd be afraid of such a thing getting stuck and then not being able to re-enter my apartment!

The best solution to the problem would be for the City to raise the level of the minimum heat requirement. It should be raised to 74 during the day and 68 at night. At least! There would be less money spent on electric being used by space heaters and we would all be safer and more comfortable. In places where people have to pay for electric according to how it is metered, those people probably use the gas stove and even kerosene heaters to stay warm. A total recipe for disaster. An invitation to disaster, I would say.

I may be wrong, but I think that Hayduk pegged the heat to 72 degrees and then this turkey lowered it to 70. If you go outside when the temperature is 70 you need a light sweater unless you are walking in sunshine. There ain't no sunshine coming into our apartments! Not at this time of year.

A puff of heat at 5:35 AM, Sunday morning, January 16th, 13 degrees outside.
61 degrees in my apartment.
Time for the space heaters.
Positively balmy in my abode - NOT!
Thank you Massuh Blackstone for your munificence.
We peons are so grateful!

The vast majority of people in my building say they get minimal or no heat. A few say their place is like a sauna. Sadly this place is rapidly becoming a glorified slum. Think hotel for transients and New York City Housing Authority and Air Bnb. Maintenance has surely declined.
Hey, at least we got the skating rink. No heat but a skating rink. How pathetic.

These apartments are so drafty that even when the heat is on the place doesn't warm up that much. I have pillows and towels around my windows and rugs up against the doors, but it is impossible to shut out all the drafts. The windows are ABSOLUTE CRAP and we continue to pay for them by way of an MCI. Can't blame Blackstone for the defective windows because they were installed by shitty MetLife. I think it was around the time that the insurance company was working toward bailing out and selling the place.

Anonymous said...

@Frigid Freda at 5:41 AM: call and text 311 over and over until you get a City Inspector to come to your apartment. Photograph the thermometer in case the heat comes on by the time the Inspector arrives. Be persistent. Don't give up.

They need to totally overhaul this ridiculous sensor system because some people roast while others freeze. It is a useless and defective system and it was a "parting gift" to us from the dregs who were running MetLife at the time.

38 degrees outside; pouring rain and strong howling wind. Of course, the heat is off because we are not supposed to get more than 62 degrees of heat overnight are we? On go the space heaters.
The wind whistles through all the invisible-to-the-eye spaces in my window frames. I'm going to tape up thick newspaper (NY Times is good for that) over the windows to help insulate my apartment. If that looks tacky, so what?

Anonymous said...

Yet we had adequate heat under Met Life and it was never this bad. They can up the heat when they want to despite the sensor system. They can do it manually. A couple of years ago an engineer raised it when I complained.

On a rainy, damp, mid 40's degree day, the living conditions in Stuyvesant town apartments are particularly unpalatable. Management figures why bother to send up ANY heat? Let the peons suffer. It is unbelievable that they can get away with charging these outrageous rents with minimal, minimal services. Opps. I forgot. We have Oval "amenities." Hahaha. I ain't laughin'...

Heating here:

This is the resident who posted as Stand Up and Fight some years ago. I came in during Met Life's tenure and have lived most of my life here. I was one of the three tenants who met in person with the esteemable Mr. Powers to demand an end to the illegal and health-destroying "events."

I posted several times that I saw ruination facing us when I came upon the October 2015 press conference on the 20th Street Loop in which the grand announcement of the Good News of collaboration (as in Vichy collaboration) of our impeccably honest Tenants Association, the New York City government and the indisputably honest and reputable Blackstone Group was about to enhance life in Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village beyond our fondest wishes.

. . . all of that to establish some credibility, I hope, when I write:

Please, I beg you, turn some of your attention on our City Council and The Mayor's Office rather than confine your outrage and hatred to Beam/Blackstone (and Met Life of old) regarding the broken and most notably frigid-producing heating apparatus here. (I have consistently been calling for a rent strike based on that reason and others, and been opposed consistently.)

It IS OUR CITY GOVERNMENT WHICH DECIDES WHAT TEMPERATURE IS JUST FINE AND DANDY FOR US IN OUR HOMES.

Likely it is REBNY which has its filth-coated fingers in this inedible and poisonous pie, among other shameful factors of human thinking and behavior.

I've been listening with equal parts sadness and outrage to the reporting of events in the Bronx connected to last week's killing, disastrous Tremont fire. Among other perfect examples of lies, diversions and misdirections is the near total silence regarding LACK OF SUFFICIENT HEATING CAUSED BY THE "LAWS" WHICH MANDATE VERY LITTLE HEATING.

The stark fact of the matter is that all landlords ought be required by (enforced) laws to provide sufficient heat 24 hours a day such that people are safe and comfortable in living their lives in their homes. As one poster wrote recently, 73 degrees sounds good to me. And, if it is not sufficient for COMFORT, as well as health, for any individual tenant, it needs to be raised for that tenant.

Not hard. Not complicated.

Money, greed, selfishness, the desire to live well at the expense of others, the need for control and manipulation by mentally ill people . . .

It is highly unlikely that one single council member or other actor in this atrocity, voluntarily lives with no or insufficient heat during chilly and cold months of the year.

What say we join forces with other renters in the city to make certain all of us are safe and comfortable in our homes? Probably the usual protestations. Maybe not this time.

Someone just barfed in the elevator in my building.
It is not even 11:00 PM, Friday night, but I guess the college bros have begun their partying early this evening.

At least on Thursday they waited until 11pm but just. At around 5 or 10 after 11pm I was walking my dog and saw this very intoxicated young lady trying to get home. She was so drunk she was a clear target so I figured I'd watch her get into her building. So she makes it to the stairs leading into the main side of her building when she grabs the banister and heaves all over the lawn area. She finishes, makes her way up the stairs and leans over the banister right outside a bedroom window and hurls again. OK, now she makes it into the lobby so I start to walk on when out she flies, over the banister and hurls some more. After round 3 she is not doing so well and down she goes in a big lump right on the stoop. I decide I should help get her up but before I get there she bounces up grabs her purse and disappears into her E 20th street building. Classy, real classy, I mean, she did have on nice brown leather slacks...

Had plumber at my apartment today. Said most of internal pipework is nearly 75 years old and is held together by bubble gum, string and a prayer. Basically any upgrade would cost millions per building, would incur huge MCI's and, worst of all, would incur wrath of tenants and terrible publicity for owners. Therefore they are just playing for time and just hoping nothing catastrophic occurs. Wonder how much of this is true or just pure speculation? I know the internals, think heating system, are from the Middle Ages to say the least.

I honestly don't know why anybody would want to rent in Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village. It is a nasty, dirty, toxic slum. It is built on the site of a very toxic gasworks and their poisonous shit remains underground - right next to our drinking water pipes.

It was built in a hurry and the best and safest materials were not available. It was built just at the closing of WWII. Safe materials were just not available at all.

The plumbing is defective; the floors are not floated (hence you can hear your neighbors fart) and various "upgrades" e.g. windows, security, rewiring, etc., have been done on the cheap because MetLife was the KING OF CHEAP AND CORRUPTION!! Donald Trump's father couldn't have ripped us off any worse! In fact, I know that many of the buildings Fred Trump put up in Queens are solid gold as far as building standards are concerned.''

MetLife was never a good landlord. It was a punitive, racist and vindictive cabal of overlords. I was born here in 1959 and remember EXACTLY what a hellhole it was then.

Since MetLife we have had several sleazy opportunists take over the place. Tishman Speyer was probably the worst of the worst. The current regime is not much better.

So why do I stay here? I have adult children and grandchildren living here and I rather like my chintzy unrenovated apartment (which I actually live in year round).

Why am I writing this post? Because when I hear people of my vintage waxing poetic about the good old days I wanna puke!

MetLife did not allow us to have air conditioners of any kind until the rip-off rewiring. They would spy on us to see what we were up to all time! I used to love to "wind them up!"

So now most of the "tenants" are students and they are welcome as far as I'm concerned because they certainly don't bother me. However, I wonder if their parents know that this is a DEATH TRAP as we have no sprinklers and most of the heat in individual apartments has to be generated by space heaters because this landlord is too blood-sucking cheap to provide a comfortable level of heat. This landlord aims for the bottom in all it does (except in what it charges for its "services" of course.

During the MetLife regime we absolutely SUFFERED during the hottest periods of the summers. Some people used to check into hotels for a few nights respite and others had to go and stay with friends or family who had air conditioning. Several of us resorted to a type of air conditioner you could put up in your apartment, but the exhaust pipe had to stick out of the window. MetLife hired college kids to scout the property and look up at windows to see who had the tell-tale hose poking out.
MetLife was not a good landlord in many ways. The lack of a/c was a death sentence to people with breathing problems and I know of one asthmatic child who died as a result of the lack of a/c.
The scum who followed MetLife were/are no better. Let's remember that MetLife sold the property for waaaay more than it was worth and TS and its cabal of investors were taken to the cleaners. Worse still, TS conducted a reign of terror against the tenants who had been living here for a long time. They were convinced that we all had property elsewhere and were not living full-time in our apartments. They drove some people to the brink of suicide and others left not because they had anything to hide, but because they were just worn down by the relentless harassment. TS was almost Nazi-like in its determination to flush out and prosecute tenants they didn't want. They were not so much concerned about flushing out cheaters (though that was their excuse) as they were determined to get their vile hands on all of the older unrenovated apartments where the occupants were paying a low rent. They were ruthless beyond ruthless. One of their worst enforcers was some jerk lawyer named Fred Knapp. I don't know if he retired or died. Just know he's not here anymore and I can't say I wish him well wherever he is.
It is totally true, btw, that whenever an elderly tenant died, TS jerks would pop a champagne cork. I know that for a fact.
If Rob Speyer croaks before I do, I promise I am going to pop a champagne cork, record it and send it to the TS office. Such vile bastards as ever lived.
The current regime isn't much better, but there could never be anyone worse than Tishman Speyer except maybe Joseph Stalin.

Not much good about the "good old days" in my opinion. There was a great deal of cruelty and unnecessary suffering inflicted by the

Now the "brains" in Management have decided that laundry room doors don't need locks. Are they mentally defective or what?
I feel my laundry is safe in the laundry room because anybody roaming around because the carriage room doors have been propped open cannot get into the laundry room without a key. I don't like to stay there all the time my stuff is in the dryer (which is where items can be stolen from). Not that my clothes and linens are all that valuable, but they're mine! I've had a few very nice things filched from the dryer when I popped upstairs for a few minutes to take care of other things, but I don't usually stay and guard the dryer while it is running. Also, there are all kinds of unsavory characters roaming the buildings, stealing packages delivered to apartment doors and opening them in the stairwell. In recent weeks there has been a plethora of such thefts.
Oh well, Wash & Clean here I come.
It seems that this Management can never do anything that actually benefits us rent-paying peons. I don't think the Siddiqui-led crowd has come up with even one intelligent idea. No shortage of dumb ideas, though, including this latest one. Maybe we could petition Blackstone/Beam Living to take him off the job and find somebody more intelligent and capable? Hayduk has his faults (think Directories and names of doors), but he was much much more intelligent and thoughtful than this current useless clown. He also was reachable and responsive. This idiot is like a made-up character, e.g., Wizard of Oz. I just wish he would put some intelligence into his decisions and consider whether his ideas are ultimately good or bad for tenants. I guess if they are somehow good for Blackstone's bottom line, that's all that matters. We have most definitely had a major decrease in services at every level since Hayduk departed. Even the minimum heat level has been reduced. No wonder they have so many empty units. One on my floor has been empty since late 2019. They haven't even bothered to take the deceased tenant's name off the door. Now they are too cheap to put living tenant's names on the doors.

I agree 100%. Been here 43 years and while Metlife wasn't perfect they were a very good landlord/manager of this property. They enforced rules and were responsive to tenants not like the current clowns running this place.

The only thing that keeps me here is the 'affordable' rent being I'm a long-time rent stabilized tenant.

However, if the shit really hits the fan here them I'm out. You only got one life and you owe it to yourself to be safe and happy.

And work with them to go after Blackstone if indeed one elderly person died and two are hospitalized due to Blackstone depriving them of heat.

Please do not write anything back here - to or for me - about who Blackstone is, their money and power, the futility of it all, the politicians, banks, governments, agencies, press in their corners, pockets, and the like.

Because I was the very first one, years back, IN THE BEGINNING, pleading for them to be ousted and warning everyone I could find about them.

All I am asking for is indication on this blog of a person or people who will speak to me about who are these dead and hospitalized residents. We'll take it from there.

I believe they are in violation of the law at least concerning the directories in the lobbies. They get away with all kinds of bullshit because they pay off the politicians and regulatory agencies. Blackstone and Beam Living (same entity, really) are notorious for flagrant violations of the laws concerning safety and welfare of their tenants. They are vile beyond vile. Worse even than CWC and Compass Rock and I didn't think anyone could be worse. Well, TS was worse. Remember when they outsourced the rent department (not renting department) to India? That was a total disaster! They are all of the same ilk, though. Total human shit.

The way this place is managed is beyond bad. Anything goes. New tenants are not given any kind of information that they need to know in order to be "Good Neighbors." Resident Service is practically non-existent. The only thing Management does efficiently is collect the rent. I know the pandemic has causes problems, but I think it is being used as an excuse for extreme cost-cutting and third-rate (at best) service to tenants. No wonder people are moving out in high numbers and they have to turn the dump into a dorm. Even the students are complaining about the lack of heat and nasty laundry rooms.

That is BEYOND DISGUSTING!! I think there are cameras in the laundry rooms and there definitely are cameras in the lobbies. If PS refuses and fails to find the person responsible for this outrage, then I would suggest notifying the Public Health Department and send a photograph (if you can stomach it) to them. This is really the bitter end. It's getting to the point where just thinking about this place that I call home makes me want to vomit. I try to stay out of the public areas as much as possible; send my laundry out and wouldn't dream of patronizing any of the food places owned by Management. To describe this place as FETID is totally accurate at this point. It is becoming a FETID SLUM.
Maybe send a photo of the pile of turd to EVGrieve or any of the local blogs. People need to know what kind of a disgusting and life-threatening and health-threatening this repulsive place has become. It bears absolutely no resemblance to the way it was just a few years ago.
Anything goes here. Thieves roam the buildings and PS can do nothing. We need much, much more security and many more cameras. More manpower is needed because the cameras need to be watched and what is seen acted upon.

This guy is permanently out to lunch. He is a total failure as a Property Manager. They need to send him back to his third-rate resort job. He is totally incompetent and unfit for the job. Btw, I really don't like the play on his name, but he's probably been called worse things. He should get some respect inasmuch as his name shouldn't be turned into an obscenity. That reflects on you, Poster, not him.

Anonymous said...

I don't think we have a real "Manager." At least not on the premises. The whole place has gone to rot. All "Management" cares about is putting on those inane events that attract outsiders. Most of the dog walkers are outsiders. In fact, with the dearth of tenants at this point, I think the whole place is getting a distinct air of neglect and shabbiness. Can't get hold of anybody in RS and they have this Artificial Intelligence which is hilarious, but gets you nowhere.
No real Security either. I think there are too few officers and they are not really up to the job. They need to get rid of the current Head of PS and get somebody who knows what they're doing.

I've recommended this place to friends in the past, but would never do that now. It would be a betrayal of friendship. Also, I don't know anybody who would be dumb enough to move in here! It has lost its good reputation and not too many people would move in here for the rents they are asking.

Anonymous said...

The outside temperature is in the 20s and we have no heat. Have to put a space heater on in order to be comfortable. Somebody in RS told me that they don't want us to use space heaters because they trick the sensors into thinking we don't need heat!!!!!

Well, if they set the bar a bit higher and not at the City minimum (which is subsistence survival level, not meant for comfort) we wouldn't need to use space heaters. These apartments are so drafty (no matter what the "engineer" does when he comes to the apartment because some things cannot be fixed) that 68 or even 70 degrees is like trying to light up a dark room with a little candle.

I hope and pray that we don't have a catastrophe like the one in the Bronx a few weeks ago. There is absolutely NOTHING "Luxury" or even acceptable about living in an apartment which is uncomfortably cold.

So what’s that? 4? Maybe 5 people? What can be accomplished at those levels?

Just like the failure of a TA, nothing is going to come of a few people on a blog who call for a rent strike. The fact of the matter is, as much as people hate it here, they will always be too afraid to pursue anything that will ruffle the landlords feathers.
