Stuy Town/PCV Tenants #43 on Most Powerless New Yorkers' List

The Village Voice has released a list of "100 Most Powerless New Yorkers." Residents of our complex are placed at #43. At least we are not number 1...or number 3!

Meanwhile, we have some interesting residents (?) parking their cars on the loops:

Placard in ST-parked Car Compares Obama to Hitler.

upstairs neighbor puts on her clunky noisy shoes and walks around (no carpets ) for almost an hour before leaving.

what do i do? call security? by the time they arrive she's gone.

w.t.hell is wrong with people? and MR. ROSE, WHY DON'T YOU TAKE MY REPORT OVER THE PHONE AND POLITELY ASK HER TO REMOVE SHOES OR GET CARPETS????? TOO much trouble foryour offices?

Have you called security, though? I know it's pain, but you have to do so, even if repeatedly. From what I've seen, management takes these noise issues seriously, but they must be reported.

Yes, have called. Why do I have to continue. And when they arrived, the woman had left.

I called security about a noise issue with my upstairs neighbor and they told me that she had appropriate carpeting and there was nothing else they could do during daytime hours.

2:18pm: that is total bs. If it's bad anytime of day, don't accept them not doing anything about it

Curious to the management here.

why do the new market rate tenants get inspections but the other tenants, who've been here for many years, do not?

anyone?

Carpeting doesn't stop you from hearing all footsteps above you. It muffles them so you don't hear the clackety-clack against the wood, but there is some noise, and there are spaces between carpets. If you don't want to hear any noise above you, buy a house and live there instead. (BTW, the people below you hear you as well, just remember that). And they hear all your other sounds as well, bodily, music, sex, vacuum, etc. You think they don't, but they do. You are just as loud as the people above you. You want them to report you?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It's not a question of hearing ANY noise, it's a question of its loudness, persistence and the time of day/night the noise may be occurring. Surely.

Re: inspections. "In the old days"...tenants' apartments were inspected after they first moved in.

Regarding reporting noise issues, please note that the more complaints an apartment gets, the higher up in priority that apartment moves up in getting focused attention and a speedier resolution. That's why it is VITAL that tenants who are bothered by genuine noise issues report them to management. Again, it may seem a pain and fruitless, but it's not in the long, or short, run.

Is nobody concerned about the display of swastikas in this idiot's car ? Similar stories got immediate news and police attention in Brooklyn and New Jersey, this week and last.

6:22. i'm not the original poster but are you serious?

some of us don't disrespect other tenants. Why don't you move to a house, since you do

i take my shoes off when arriving home, even with carpets. Why don't you try it? sounds like we hit a nerve.

Via the EV Grieve blog (can’t say enough how the STR, the EV Grieve and Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York, all 3 of these blogs are must to link blogs on a daily basis), here is a link to the NY Observer regarding a NY Post article on the current unbridled gentrification of the East Village. Home run line:

“In short, the former bastions of East Village grit are giving way to rental buildings where parents will pay for their NYU student to live comfortably and drink heavily.”

http://www.observer.com/2012/01/east-village-new-building-rental-boom-targeting-those-with-arrested-development/

We must never forget that PCVST is also considered by CW Capitol as part of the East Village in its marketing strategy, going for the same demo. Woo!

OMG! Why does every comment in disagreement get met with insult?! That person didn't say anything about wearing shoes! Why are you so accusatory towards anyone who disagrees?

E.g. I do aerobics in my bare feet on my carpeted floor to a video. I do it before 7 p.m. but I GUARANTEE that whoever lives below me can hear my dance steps, jumping, etc. through the ceiling. This is what people do in their apartments.

Reminds me that I've wanted to put a link to those to sites for a while now.

Boy, is it over!

The East Village is getting Bloombergized just like all the other neighborhoods that once had character and "grit." A Subway/DD/Chase Bank/Starbucks/Duane Reade on every block. Just what we need, along with numerous "quirky" little bars and hipster cafes. I almost miss the shooting galleries and dirty little bodegas. Well, maybe not the shooting galleries, but I definitely miss the character of the City that is being eradicated by the current illegally purchased mayoral term.

Are you actually comparing bare footsteps to high heels with no carpets ?

Really?
