Tacky, Moving Companies, and more--Happy Holidays

So I sat outside this morning near the Oval. All of the "decorations" are tacky and low-class. Some are very big--and tacky. Residents who have been around "in the old days" know this, but some are mercifully forgetful or they just don't care, having been beaten down by whatever management is in place. There used to be a time when the fountain area was filled with real decorations and there was nice Christmas music playing. No more. And the purpose of these decorations is not just "for the children." Children you can give a red ball to, and they will be happy. No, the purpose is ALSO for adults, who can travel in dreams that delight all.

But now the Oval area is tacky. Welcome to Stuy Town!

This morning I was also met with several large bins outside my building that were holding move-in furniture. Not a problem to me, and welcome. But.... one elevator was filled to the brim with furniture, and no one could get in. And there was no worker from the moving company around. So one elevator was out of commission because residents could not get in and had to wait for the other elevator.

There is no "service elevator" in this place, so all move-ins and move-outs have to use the residents' elevator.

Stuy Town is a disaster. With the L line shutdown, with the ferries, the new bus lanes, it will be more of a disaster. Living in New York City is not what is meant to be. Why people accept this is becoming more and more unreasonable. Many don't care any more. The message is: You live in the city, so take it all and don't bitch.

Happy Holidays from Stuyvesant Town

I saw this YESTERDAY. And it is still there and almost 10:40 am today. And Public Safety goes by this many, many times.

I had to go the PS office today to complain, so it will probably be picked up now.

I don't run this place, but....

Fake

Perhaps new residents have no clue and the older residents have mercifully forgotten, but there was a time when the Christmas tree at the Oval was real, not the artificial one put up now. (And not what the previous admin had to the side, that straggly little tree which looks pathetic.)

The artificial tree is there to save money, period, much like the Smiley Face that covers the clock in Playground 12. Newer residents, who are paying a lot for the privilege of living here, can wow all they want, but the fact remains that once upon a time, there was more caring here and the Christmas tree was a real one, not the phony one put up.

We (well, some of us) would much rather the energy be spent on Public Safety (real patrolling and reporting--and, yes, there was another attempt to rob a resident inside the "community") clean loops (not the discarded junk), and sidewalks where you don't have to look for either dog refuse or a club car heading this way and that.

Even the outdoor playgrounds, on which money was spent, are a failure during the winter months and when it rains.

There is still a measure of lawlessness here, and Management knows this. The fake trees and a lot of artificial designs are not working. They look cheap. But, then again, perhaps they are working in a manner that is not expected.
