Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

Breaking News: No MCI Rent Bill Increases this December
Both the TA and CWCapital (PCVST Living) have released brief notifications stating that residents will not see the scheduled MCI increases in their December rent bills, increases which are postponed until January. Both parties say talks are ongoing between them, with CWCapital adding that the DHCR is also involved.

Well WTF is the point of that? They're bogus and we all know it. What is the difference if they charge us now or in January.

I don't know if "worked with" would be the correct expression, but I'm sure they have had talks before.

DHCR made MCI rulings that were bad for us tenants. The TA hired a law firm specializing in this stuff to represent us before DHCR and then in court if it comes to that. Our attorney got DHCR to rescind and reconsider the original Orders to pay the MCI rent increases. DHCR said that while its reconsidering, we'll have to start paying those increases. Our attorney met with their attorney and they negotiated a no MC rent increase in Dec for us.
How that translates into "NO ONE DOING a damn thing" leaves me scratching my head. Apparently nothing short of magical elves waving wands to make everything bad go away is acceptable to some people.
I suspect it's because their lousy, incompetent account department haven't got the figures ready yet. This isn't a gesture of good will, it's a cover up for their incompetency. The entire CW/CR reeks of incompetence, greed and total contempt for the tenants. I wish they would just GO AWAY!

Where you at the TA PS 104 MCI meeting? Did you volunteer to distribute pledge forms? Did you sign the pledge form? Did you input your MCI docket numbers to the TA webpage? Yes?
They'll just have us all 'PAY MORE' in the end…..
To anyone who lives in Stuy Town, move out. I lived in Stuy Town for 20 years, moved out last fall and could not be happier. My landlord doesn't abuse me financially and my building isn't overrun with college kids. I no longer have the steady stream of leaf blowing, rock concerts and back hos keeping me company during the day. My only regret is I wish I left sooner. It's not going to get better. The trend is it's only getting worse and, like being in an abusive relationship, it chips away your well being. But you don't realize it until after you've settled into a new normalcy. I wish everyone the best but consider leaving this tragedy.
CW made a big mistake riling up the community...but that was good for us on 3 scores. First, CW saw firsthand what this place can be like when angered. Second, having the community reacting out loud gave the TA leverage...because when CW goes to sell this place to a developer, it's not good for bidding if developers see the community as a lot of trouble & headaches. The investor Byron Wien was quoted saying among other reasons, he wasn't interested in bidding for STPCV because of contentious tenants. Third, we can see the kind of leverage we have when we make noise together.
All these increases will just make the inevitable condo conversion look more affordable. As the optimist said while the Titanic was sinking, "At least we're in first class."

I, like you, have lived in this project for quite a long time. I agree with much of what you say. I too, will leave as soon as possible, extremely agreeable rent not withstanding. Unfortunately, for me, I have to stay for around 7 more years. However, I take solace in the fact that I will not be freeing up and apartment for these bandits until that time. I truly wish I never experienced how Stuyvesant Town was before the Met Life sale. It would have made dealing with the dump it's become much easier.
Sunday evening: CWock (my conflation) has posted a notice on the vestibule door, announcing the delay in MCI charges (same message as their email, including "with respect."). At first I thought it was another work permit--my building has five posted.

You found your apartment on street easy. You may have paid a broker and you may be living on Long Island.

Is that what you're paying here? If so then no, you probably won't do better in Manhattan. Last I heard, market raters were paying significantly more to live in this housing project. If you are paying under 2 grand for a 2 bedroom then the move to make, I guess, is to pray for a conversion, buy in, and dump it as soon as you can and roll the proceeds into a habitable abode.

Apartments around the 'area' and UES are not cheaper. Possibly more peaceful, but you do KNOW that we have a major housing shortage here. Seriously low inventory = the bottom line. :(
Notwithstanding these outrageous "MCI" charges and all the destruction and misery CW has inflicted on our community, they still have the unmitigated gall to stuff the rent bill envelopes with ads for their crappy commercial activities and their "incentive" for bringing in new tenants. I would never, ever, under any circumstances spend any of my money on their out-of-place commercial enterprises and there is no one whom I hate enough to try to get them to rent here. I warn people against ever renting here and feel I have done a good deed in doing so.
Just got the latest outrageous email from CW: The Season for Giving. You know what I'd like them to give me? A CLEAN, FUNCTIONING LAUNDRY ROOM. Per the email, they have time and money to participate in City Harvest and Toys for Tots, do a Christmas tree lighting and a menorah lighting, set up a "special new mailbox" for Santa in Oval Concierge (adults can participate too!), and arrange for Christmas tree sales in the Oval, BUT THEY CAN'T FINISH THE BASEMENTS.
Everybody should read the Salon article that appears in the news items column on this blog. It is about how Wall Street is into the business of being slumlords and many of the renters are the same people these Wall Street devils caused to lose their homes. There's a special place in Hell ....

So even if a tenant is paying $5k a month for an apartment, what is the renewal rate? Isn't it 4 or 6% across the board?

Everyone is in a rent-stabilized apartment. The landlord can raise the rent upon renewal at 4 or 6%, depending on the length of your lease.

Yes, the Roberts case resulted in all apartments here becoming rent-stabilized.
does anyone know how much the increase will be for the dec rent? Will we be offered a chance to break our lease and leave like folks who had the option earlier this year. If given the option, I'd leave stuy town asap.
