The Gift that Keeps on Giving...

... if you want to take photos of how crappy things can get here. Click on photos to make them bigger.

Yesterday was "Open House" day at the Leasing Office. Scores of prospective tenants (ie, students) were being shown the property and select apartments:

I passed by four girls talking to a mother in the group, and one of the girls was stating how lovely the apartment looked, but that the environment sucked. Of course, because these are PROJECTS, whether we want to consider them that or not. I remember the first time I saw Stuy Town, I was depressed thinking about living here because I accurately saw these buildings for what they were. It's only later that one gets used to living in the projects.

If you sit around the Oval, you will have to notice that most of the people you see walking by are students. So, when do we officially start calling Stuy Town: "Dorm Town"? It wouldn't shock me to learn that this complex now has a majority of students living in it.

Did you ever pass by the chess area on the west side of the Oval? Frequently, this is the sight you will see:

This area doesn't get cleaned up daily, so what garbage people throw down on the ground remains there for a couple of days at least. What's depressing is thinking what pigs some of our neighbors are. People, there's a garbage can within a few steps of the chess area! Move your ass, and put your garbage inside!

More foliage has been ripped out by our landscaping team. Both on the northwestern and northeastern side of the Oval. This photo is from the area near Oval Study. A fence was put around it, too, to prevent dog walkers from entering, but, sure enough, the very next day, I saw a regular dog walker place her dog inside the fence to do his thing.

What would Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village be without dog crap on the walkways? Even with the overnight rain, these clumps of dog shit did not go away from being deposited there yesterday.

I too saw the open house last week. No one was above age 24 i swear. Bravo CWC bravo.

This place used to be beautiful and have a wait list of ten years to get in. Now it is a mess and needs open house events desperately begging people to rent here.

Case study in how to destroy value and community for short term gains for pretense of profitability. CW should return the millions they were paid as servicer.

If it aint broke don't fix it. PCVST was not broke. It was just fine and better than fine before Tishman/CW.

The NYU Open House Tour beginning in Stuyvesant dorms - through Gramercy - ending in Peter Cooper dorms. NYU already acts like they own PCVST in so many ways. We need to give Mr Guterman's plan some serious attention.

http://www.nyu.edu/content/dam/nyu/src/documents/WT_Gramercy.pdf

If there are still 6000 RS apartments .....
and no doubt there are at least 3850 dorms ...
that leaves only 1150 (probably less) non-student / young families at MR. There aren't enough of us MR to form a tenant movement. We need the illegal dorms out of here!

Like, oh my god, I can keep my underwear in those bushes!

What? We're doing shots in the bushes? Dude!

Shots! Woo! Look, my top just fell off!

I own this town! Now, eat the raw dog.

Unrelated students in PC

To get around and break the law students are told to advertise for "occupants" and not "tenants" so the extra room mates will not be on the lease, which has to in itself be a safety hazard.

Not sure they need people. Our downstairs neighbor moved last week. painted in one day, cleaned in another, new tenant day 3. I kid you not. This is Nyc, prime real estate.

Is the third party leasing scheme of Rent Stabilized apartments to shady colleges and universities legal? Can you third party lease a RS apartment?

6:24 We need not only be MR to form a group - Anyone we know here who is not MR and pays a very low rent wants to join.

These so called occupants do not have pass keys, often loiter in front of the exterior doors waiting to piggy back in. I got frustrated and confronted one said student, I was advised that they were a guest, why not ring up? They had a key, I told them I would call PS on them. Thankfully they did not call my bluff.
Do others have similar experiences?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I hate that piggy-back stuff. If I see that I usually use another entrance. I've confronted a few piggy-backers, particularly if I'm leaving the building and they are hovering around the doorway.

Oh Hochul, Hochul

You met us, toured our PCVST community the other day with Garodnick and his team, and now you are protecting those who destroyed NY communities. Dismayed to read your position in the news.

"That's where we asked her for her message to voters about the accusations against Governor Cuomo concerning his alleged tampering with the former corruption-investigating Moreland Commission.

"I tell them that there's a lot accomplished by that commission, and there's major first-time-ever reforms, anti-bribery legislation, campaign finance reforms," she said. "This was convened by the governor, it put together very strong recommendations, a lot of top talent in that commission, and according to all reports they had the independence to do what they needed to do."

Not all reports say that though, including several in the New York Times that accused the governor of interfering with the commission.

Cuomo has hired outside counsel to represent the administration in the investigation."

I've had several piggybackers who tried to follow me in. All were of the college kid type. When I refused to let them in, they simply loitered until somebody exited the building and let them in. It's a no-win situation for us. The place is absolutely swarming with students and college-age strangers going in and out with rolling luggage and, sometimes, bedrolls. Management doesn't give a flying fuck and yet we are paying for the "security" which we don't have by way of a big MCI on our rent and we are also paying with our safety and QOL.

When, oh when, will this place be investigated and those responsible for this state of affairs held accountable?

All the renovated are bogus claims and its written as over 100,000 for most. DOH DOB and DHCR approves. Good luck getting them to get out of bed with landlords. and Yes, have tried. Many times. They're all on the take.

Anonymous said...

In my building if you get the mail you open the security door. You don't have to actually open the door to let someone in, you just have to go near the door and it opens automatically. The person on my Main floor has stated that all he has to do is open his apartment door and the front door opens. We're paying an MCI for this crap. Well Done TA, well done. They are less than worthless. Cant wait to sign up with Guterman.

No one or any entity will step up. We're breaking our lease early and moving uptown soon. Let them have their students, dogs and worse. NO ONE cares - Thank you to the politicians too.

Anonymous said...

On the reno costs how about this.

Since we are paying for the reno work we have the right to question the charges and since we many of us feel we are being overcharged by a grotesque amount for subpar work what if we collectively asked the Attorney General to investigate the contractors who did the cheap work. They are ripping us off AND they are ripping off the city by removing affordable housing via doctored and falsified invoices. The Attorney General holds accountable contractors who do shoddy work and fraudulent stuff.

Anonymous said...

The $100,000 for renovations includes the payoffs and kickbacks!

"Is the third party leasing scheme of Rent Stabilized apartments to shady colleges and universities legal? Can you third party lease a RS apartment?"

That's a very good question. They are taking RS apartments out of the system and may not have the legal right to do that. I really wish that De Blasio would order a full scale investigation of the practices of this shitty outfit. Maybe Preet Bhararra should be looking into the goings-on here and how the DOB, DHCR, etc., get away with it and whose hands get the dirty money.

5 :42 yes, we tried getting an account of how and where the $$ was spent on our renovated unit. Got nowhere. 2 years of trying. So forgive me or some of us for giving up. Would have been thrilled if an attorney general investigation would have ensued.
