DeBlasio's developer friends must be jizzing in their pants at the thought of what they can put up there.

Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village is Big Business with very little concern for quality of life issues for its residents. I presume that survival is the name of the game.

I can accept this comment if you did not ever vote for Bloomturd. Did you?

BTW, this is ANOTHER reason I hate the Bro/Woo crowd that has taken over our hood. From the EV Grieve blog on what happened on Friday night at the disaster scene: "They were drunkenly trying to force their way through the blocked off area of Second Avenue and had to be YELLED at by the FDNY and NYPD to stay out of the area knowing they weren't allowed in there."

The hate I have for them knows no bounds.

You betcha! This is the ultimate wet dream for DeBlasio's and Garodnick's owners, the REBNY! Human anguish? Feh! All part of business. No room for sentiment when there are DOLLARS up for the grabbing!

I doubt Speyer has the equipment to jizz, but I bet the viscosity of the drool on his chin increased when he heard that some real estate in a prime location had just burned to the ground.

I promise you I did NOT vote for Bloomturd! In fact when his lackeys came and put fancy campaign ads that hung over the doorknobs, hotel-style, I went through the building from top to bottom removing them and threw them all in the trash.

Some cheap bastard trying to save a few dollars by getting a dangerous job done on the cheap and look at what it cost - pain, suffering, death, loss of everything held dear, including pets, and homelessness for hundreds of people.

I hope they find whomever is responsible for this and hang him by his balls.

EV Grieve has good coverage of this along with notices of pets missing due to the explosion.

Thank you EVGRIEVE and STR for all you do for the communities here.

A common sentiment and a sad reflection of how the pols are giving NYC to REBNY. Every article talks of the nice people living in the East Village, neighbors, community, small businesses. Soon to disappear with the invasion of NYU and luxury condo developers.

Quality of life issues? Sunday morning, 8am, woken up by 2 barking dogs right outside my window. Noise bouncing off the buildings. Unbeleivable, with the 2 dog owners smiling at one another, thinking about how CUTE they are, meanwhile, waking EVERYONE up!
ASSHOOOOOOOOOOOOOLESSSSSSSSS!!!!!
That's one of the reasons why dogs were never allowed here in here in the first place. There is never ANY peace and quiet anymore. $4,500/mo. rent in THIS place? You gotta be kidding me. Only a fool would pay that. And boy, there are a lot of fools here.

Anonymous said...

Old buildings housing several rent stabilized apartments in a prime Manhattan location = a developers' wet dream. There must be multiple orgasms occurring throughout the REBNY.

Yes, STR, thank you for all you do for us. I wish there was some way we could repay you for your terrific blog.

12:34 PM, 2,28 PM here.

Thanks, funny re you removing Bloomturd's election door hangers, I did the same as well!

Anonymous said...

I as well am sick and tired of all these dogs and their inconsiderate owners. Shit all over the place. But what can we do.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if the owner/owners of those buildings are culpable. Somebody was doing something on the sly (maybe just stealing gas) and it led to this catastrophe. A person with a suspicious mind would wonder who was going to benefit from collecting insurance, being able to rebuild and have NO rent stabilized apartments. Fortunately, I don't have a suspicious mind and not a cynical bone in my body, so I would never entertain such suspicious and cynical thoughts. Ahem.

I hope the investigators into this catastrophe are not as trusting of mind as I am.

A bit off topic
But also gone after two hundred years.

This small business was really great - great products and beyond great customer service.

http://thevillager.com/2015/03/12/let-the-s-b-j-s-a-finally-come-up-for-a-vote/

"Despite a heavy snowstorm earlier in the day that even saw a jet skid off the runway at LaGuadia Airport, 100 intrepid, intensely concerned New Yorkers braved the bad weather to hear about — and offer their own ideas on — what can be done to save mom-and-pop stores in an era of skyrocketing rents.

This forum’s expert panel was as grassroots as you can get, including committed small business advocates, the president of N.Y.U. Faculty Against the Sexton Plan and an artists’ representative, plus an East Village landlord.

The discussion started with a bold premise: that there exists — right now, at this very moment — a mechanism to help our small businesses survive amid an onslaught of banks, Duane Reades, Starbucks and other chains, which are among the few types of businesses that can afford today’s astronomical Manhattan rents.

And, in truth, this discussion really focuses on Manhattan — which is now nothing less than the epicenter of global wealth.

At the forum, we also learned that, threatening to further upend the local retail landscape, more than 100 “baby Walmarts” will be hitting town in just a couple of years from now."

Anonymous said...

part 2

"In short, the mechanism to save small businesses is a bill that has been repeatedly blocked from coming up for a vote in the City Council ever since the mid-1980s — the Small Business Jobs Survival Act.

This legislation would entitle commercial tenants in good standing to 10-year lease renewals. If the landlord and tenant cannot reach terms, then there would be nonbinding mediation, to be followed, if necessary, by binding arbitration. The legislation mandates no minimum or maximum caps on rent increases.

Since The Villager first editorialized about the S.B.J.S.A. two weeks ago, support for the idea has snowballed.

Following our forum last Thursday, Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York has gotten onboard, with the blog’s Jeremiah Moss penning his support this week in a column in the Daily News.

..the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation has put out an e-mail blast calling on people to write letters in support of the S.B.J.S.A. A press conference —with the requisite celebrity activists — is now being planned to keep the momentum going.

It’s wonderful to see this movement building and broadening.

What emerged from last Thursday’s forum is precisely that such a movement is what is needed to pressure the political powers that be to finally bring this long-blocked bill to a vote in the City Council.

Why has the bill been obstructed so long? As one panelist said, while making the international finger-rubbing sign — it’s all about money."

We must stop the city council from selling out our communities!

Really important article for every New York Tenant and every New York Small Business.

New Yorkers are fighting back.

We are calling the politicians on their lies, their "playing dumb" as they claim there is nothing they can do when they actually can, and their connections to the REBNY.

Take the few minutes to read the comments. They are good, smart, ideas and solutions.
Good call to actions on a very basic human need - shelter - and how the RE and REBNY and Wall Street gamble with and put profit over people in what is a human necessity and basic right. RE and REBNY could not pull it off without the aid of their puppet pols. We need new pols who understand and practice "public service" and who fully realize their campaign promises are binding deals they made with the people in exchange for our vote just as much as the "donations" RE and WS gave (bribed) are deal they made with them.
A deal is a deal.
Keep your campaign promises or no votes for reelection. We will with hold our votes again or worse, vote against you if you do not do right by our communities.

Cons:
- Some TERRIBLE neighbors with minimal management response
- Take a look at the disgusting dog hair dumped by neighbor on a daily basis into our shared hallway. Modern or Classic? More like disgusting and unsanitary.
- Paper thin walls

The Community Board Six Report. For the most part they do good work, and they do a lot of work.

They also 100% miss the mark in their assessment of construction site safety which reads more like an ad for the DOB then the reality of what is happening as evident with our bad DOB experiences in PCVST, the death of the woman at the luxury condo site in Greenwich Village, the gas explosion due to just inspected by Con Ed work that was being done without a DOB permit where two people and many pets died and dozens lost everything they had including safety and sanctity of home, and let's not forget the 40 recently arrested many from DOB.

The DOB is failing. Not grade B or C or D - they are FAILING and someone needs to have the courage to call it out and reform the whole place, top to bottom, mission, goals, operations, policies, procedures!

HUNTER College, former senior planner with City calls out de Blasio housing plan for what it is!

"He argues that government should not be in the business of identifying points on map as development opportunities without considering whether communities can sustain and support new housing.

"Then you're thinking like a real estate developer and not like a public agency," he says.

But Tom Angotti, professor of urban affairs and planning at Hunter College and a former senior planner with the city, warns that city officials must not think in terms of quotas, but rather in terms of communities, when planning affordable housing.

"Their vision is to build housing, 200,000 units of affordable housing and there's talk about community, but so far it's a numbers game. And in fact they’re putting their foot forward first with these rezonings, in East New York and in the South Bronx. What that really does is put new market rate development first," he says, noting that even proposed rezonings can reinforce a “ speculative land-buying frenzy.”

It is like de Blasio is mouthing the words REBNY and Goldman put in there. The Housing plan is a developers perspective and not a community perspective!

Guess they got their permits after all for their outdoor eating area for the management office. Let's rip out the trees and and Open Space and install an office building and outdoor eating tables and chair for day workers because the residents who live here don't deserve open space and trees and wildlife but the workers need an outdoor place to eat lunch, smoke, and drop food and litter. Everytime I walk by on the way to the subway I see Compass Rock employees smoking. There were quiet benches for reading and for watching kids play. Now its a gathering for Compass Rock lunch. I never thought they would get the permits. I guess they did. Noise pollution in our Oval and now our neighbors on First Ave Loop will have to hear Compass Rock workers eating lunch. Or anyone coming in off First Avenue will eat their now. We are not an outdoor cafe. Our Oval is not and our First Ave Loop is not. WTF

We are becoming one big food court in a strip mall!

We just received a Garodnick newsletter that says CW, DG, the mayor's office and the TA are in affordability discussions and that CW has said that while it doesn't have to sell for quite some time, it will sell either this year or next.

All of this makes so little sense. The best we can get from CW is a guarantee that MRs paying the preferential rent won't get zapped with a demand for the legal rent upon lease renewals.

We keep hearing the same phase about selling: either this year or next. No one believes that anymore.

The real key to all this is the student rentals. So long as these continue at 20% decontrol adjustment rates, the more leverage CW keeps building. The decontrol adjustment rules is what we need to focus on and attack.

The rest is nonsensical, self-serving diversion.

Anonymous said...

Someone in the media should do a story on families that are getting ridiculous increases at renewal.

the constant renovations - even when not needed - ie. renovated apartments and then re renovated , is just a tactic to annoy the hell out of residents and get us to move.

The only thing that would be worse than CW as landlord is Dan and the TA --- they would be far worse as landlord/owner/condo board. Record evictions, tenants against tenants, record number of dorms, working class paying for state law required dorm security,
I long ago stopped trusting Dan Garodnick and his Garodnick/tenant association board. ZERO TRUST.
ZERO!

The rent roll increase by 100 million is gross. ABSOLUTELY GROSS!

"No fan of Dan, no fan of CR, but Dan is not our problem and you know this. Stop posting same agenda over and over. You're really obvious now."

Dan is the #1 problem.

Dan cannot be bashed enough for disgracefully betraying his ST-PCV neighbors/constituents.

For nearly four years Dan has been working a scam intended give REBNY/Wall Street predators Brookfield, Moelis and Paul Weiss the same multi-billion dollar windfalls Speyer planned, but failed to squeeze out ST-PCV.

In an unprecedented circumstance, ST-PCV tenants surviving Speyer's invasion are 100% RS and hold exclusive access to Fannie/Freddie billions. (Thank you Senator Schumer!) Dan's malfeasance squandered away our unprecedented opportunity to transact a ST-PCV tenant led purchase that could immediately deliver 100% ST-PCV ownership and control to ST-PCV residents.

Again, Dan cannot be bashed enough for disgracefully betraying his ST-PCV neighbors/constituents. Today Dan's backstabbing behavior is understandable, even predictable. He's just another 21st century NY politician owned by REBNY/Wall Street.

It's the once historic, now disgraced and illegitimate TA's betrayal that is actually difficult to understand. Why partner with a Speyer investor? Predators don't change their values. WTF?

Anonymous said...

Dan who?

Anonymous said...

Yes but even when DG is finished and gone, we still have the continuous and worsening problems. get a grip on that please as you're not helping the tenants in any way shape or form.

Anonymous said...

We are too far past a point of helping tenants. Each of the tenants need to step up and help themselves. Collectively that would be better.

Anonymous said...

I hope they throw the book at the DOB too for giving permits to a contractor who is under indictment and for the lack of appropriate permits for the work being done.

"Yes but even when DG is finished and gone, we still have the continuous and worsening problems. get a grip on that please as you're not helping the tenants in any way shape or form."

Dan is the #1 problem. He should take REBNY/Wall Street predators Brookfield, Moelis and Paul Weiss that he needlessly forced into our midst and walk away. That will change everything.

Dan and his predators walking away will leave us sitting at the negotiating table holding Fannie/Freddie billions without REBNY/Wall Street predators posing as our partners/advisors while they snatch away our opportunity to transact a genuine ST-PCV tenant led purchase that will immediately deliver tenant led ownership/control.

Nearly a year has past since secret "negotiations" about preserving ST-PCV affordability commenced. 20,000 uninformed tenants know nothing about what's been discussed about our homes and futures. The only news we've received is a couple of vague updates from Dan telling us that, so far Mayor de Blasio and CWC have not outright said "No" to him stuffing Fannie/Freddie billions into Brookfield's deep pockets. We need his phony tenant led purchase delivering ST-PCV ownerhip/control to Brookfield scam off the table.

Dan should follow Senator Schumer's lead. We are sitting at the table. We are holding Fannie/Freddie billions. Thank You! Now please walk away and take Brookfield, Moelis and Paul Weiss with you. Your continued presence is a corrupting influence.

Then, someone like Mayor de Blasio or CWC might actually ask ST-PCV tenants a question that neither Dan nor the TA ever asked us, "What is it that ST-PCV tenants want?" That would be something. That would be real.

Anonymous said...

Well put. Very well said.

That is a crock. We are not holding squat. Wall Street owns the senior mortgage on ST-PCV in the form of many hundreds, if not thousands of investors and CWCap as Spec servicer, based on their signed agreement with TS, is running the show for another 6 years. What they and their parent company intend to do at that point does not appear to involve Dan G or Brookfield let alone your "genuine ST-PCV tenant led purchase" whatever that means.

Anonymous said...

Between REBNY(Dan/Brookfield) and Fortress I choose Fortress. Both are awful, but Fortress is awful to your face instead of behind your back. And 11:08 if what you say is true then Fortress used REBNY/Dan/Brookfield to help them use the DOB and DHCR to get away with the Tishman plan then double crossed them. I hope they double cross each other and both lose big.

Where was Garodnick after this tragedy? Was he busy trying to get the displaced RS tenants rehoused? Maybe in ST? No? I didn't think so. After all, they don't want more "low rent" RS tenants to muck up the Grand Brookfield/Paul Weiss Plan do they?

NOW WE NEED TO WITHHOLD OUR TAX DOLLARS

TAX STRIKE

It's easy to withhold votes from incumbents, but not so easy to withhold tax dollars because the government just takes the tax dollars without giving us a choice! Also, the penalty for deliberately withholding tax dollars is jail. We need a general tax strike.
