Another Amazing Change and Equally Amazing Response from the TA

Our porters will be given more work with an additional building added to their duties on weekends. They will not get paid extra for this weekend work, but will be given days off during the week instead. So, if you are a porter who has looked forward to spending time with your family on the weekend, forget about it!

Here is the report at the Town & Village blog, which explains more:

http://town-village.com/2015/08/04/porters-reassigned-to-cover-more-buildings/

Of course, the humane solution would be to hire more porters to cover the weekend schedule, but when was the last time you saw CWCapital/CompassRock acting humanely?

Brian Moriarity, a spokesman for CompassRock, even had the gaul to spin this as something necessary to "better serve the community." Thanks, Brian, but if you want to better serve this community, you may want to hire more porters AND stop the influx of students packing apartments over the legal limit AND cease dividing up apartments with the addition of pressurized walls so you can get more bodies in. That would really help in the ever-growing problem of just too many people occupying a limited space and the garbage influx and wear to buildings that goes along with such a population explosion.

And what about our TA? Is our TA coming down hard on this new change? Not at all.

Susan Steinberg, president of the TA, italics mine. “While on the face of it, it is commendable that management is shifting staff to better serve the community on weekends, tenants need to be vigilant about whether building conditions are maintained, improved, or deteriorate as a result of such shuffling, and let the Tenants Association know.... Clearly, with more people home on weekends, a buildup of items in the recycling room is inevitable ― and often concerning due to the possibility of fire or bedbug hazards.

So, basically, the TA is saying "good idea" to CompassRock ("commendable" actually!), but dear tenants just let us know how all this turns out in your building.

Ms. Steinberg even has this suggestion: “One would hope management will consider some shifting of plumbing staff in the same way they are shifting porters.” So, yeah, let's screw around with the lives and work load of our plumbers, instead of hiring more plumbers!

Signing off, disgusted.

Crazy!!! They are spending $125,000 to renovate apartments but they won't spend $$$$ to keep the place clean. What is the thinking here?? The place -PCV -is a mess inside & out. Filth all over. Litter , dog business, paper wrappers, food left over from lunch. Why are we allowing all the outsiders to come in here - to PCV - to eat. I see more & more of these people taking over the benches & tables at lunch time. The residents come out to sit & enjoy the weather but there is no where to sit. That's a problem that needs to be addressed. We need MORE porters because this place is a mess. I feel for these workers. Something needs to be done. HELP!!!

There is no Tenants Association here, only management enablers and apologists. That's why membership is at an all time low. Looks like we are getting Garodnicked again.

Any criticism of TA leadership will be met by the way overused phrase that they are merely volunteers who devote a huge amount of their time to the TA. In other words, if you've got any complaints about their performance ( actually lack of performance) just shut up and thank them again for their " tireless " service - oh , then they will mention again that they are volunteers .
Too many in TA leadership are still making nice to CWbecause they still believe in the Brookfield- Paul Weiss tenant ownership plan !

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It's not the "rank and file" volunteers who are the problem, but the leadership. The rank and file would go along with more pressure on management if the leadership would actually lead the way. And, yes, I agree that the leadership wants to play nice-nice to CW because they are still hoping for a good condo deal.

Garodnick NYU plan is to turn this property into public park access to the riverfront. Someone (s) have already posted several plans on this. That is why the increase in people coming here for concerts and eating lunch and advertised events in stuy town by city hall. Garodnick and his pals kept telling tenants they are going to fight to "keep the property configuration" and "protect the open space" but they have not ONCE fought for either of those.

They were empty words. They already made a deal to develop. Garodnick's and his pals and the TA board's actions on the bunker made it clear.

They are pro-develop on the open space helping Compass Rock shepherd through the process without opposition from tenants by quieting tenants opposing.

There was not ONE fight by the TA board or Garodnick, Hoylman, Kavanagh opposing any of the development. Not one fight by these guys. Just a lot of talk that they would. But they never did. That is not an empty promise. That is by definition a LIE.

Anonymous said...

It TA leadership, and I use that word loosely, wants to purchase they should be doing everything to keep the purchase down, not drive it up like they have been.

Anonymous said...

That TA Board is awful! The porters are getting a raw deal. The union is right! The TA board is clearly still pro-management, anti-tenant, anti-workers!

Tommyboy said...

Who in this complex throws their garbage away outside their building? Every morning the garbage receptacles are overflowing with bagged garbage.
I agree from hospital workers to non-resident teens to lunching sub-contractors the benches are packed. Try sitting at a bench that is not littered with cigarette butts. Is there not a mandate to clean these up or is it easier to just ignore them. What can we expect when the newer luxury apartments on the south side of 14th street become a reality.

Anonymous said...

NOW, you are going to see porters leave for other jobs, they will bring in MORE people who can't speak or understand English, AND accept lower pay. The result? This place will look even WORSE than what it is now. The winners as usual? Management. The losers? Us, of course. This place continues to go down the toilet, spiraling out of control. You market raters are out of your mind paying for this.
They just don't care.

Anonymous said...

I find it disturbing that the benches in Stuy Town at night are used for sleeping. I'm not going after the homeless - no, I don't have a solution to that problem (clearly neither does our Mayor). But when I get up at 5am to walk my dog and the benches have people sleeping on them, how am I to feel safe? I notice by 5:20 or so they do wake up. Smoke then leave. Of course leaving all their garbage.
Doesn't this place have cameras?

As far as the porters, my building has a great person during the week and a wonderful person on the weekend. I assume that will change but I have to say, they keep our building clean. The residents are another story....

Anonymous said...

Can I get a refund from the TA?

Anonymous said...

The porters should all go on strike and not allow scabs to cross the picket lines. I would love to see "management" shoveling the shit left behind by the hicks that pass for students these days.

Anonymous said...

Hey, that picture looks like my building almost every day!

Anonymous said...

Why are we pasting for security cameras that see nothing?

Hippo said...

The precipitous decline of quality of life in Stuyvesant Town is truly sad.
I attribute this to management and the transient nature of the market rate tenants.
Management has no incentive to maintain the property because their ultimate goal is to "ethnically cleanse" or should I say "rent-stabilize cleanse" the old tenants. When there are no more regulated apartments, management will be free to bring in the wrecking balls and level this place. Then they will build super-luxury high rises. Think Battery Park East. 80-acres of land waiting to be developed is worth BILLIONS. The impotent and ethically challenged TA are delusional to think this place will ever go condo or coop. Ain't gonna happen. The departed Marsh and the new head honcho Susan Steinberg are at best losers and totally ineffective and at worst in bed with management. They do not represent the true interests of the tenants. Don't get me started on our diminutive Councilman Danny Boy Garodnick. A true two-faced hack. And the newer tenants are here only for a year or two so they don't give a rat's ass about respecting our community and the social contract.
Another beer, bro? Pass the joint please. Just dump the garbage anywhere. Too much noise. Fu*k the neighbors. This is the attitude of many of the "new stabilizers".
I don't know who is more vile, CW Cap, Compass Cock, the despicable TA leadership, the local pols, or Tishman-Speyer. May they rot in hell.

Anonymous said...

That looks like my building too, every weekend.

Did Compass Rock factor in the millions of dollars they got from Verizon when they calculated our mci charges that use the Verizon network? Did they reduce the cost of our mci charge to include what Verizon gave to them?

Is no one challenging Compass Rock on operation costs? This is bad for the porters and for tenants. The rent roll goes way the f**k up and the operations goes way the f**k down .. sounds like they are getting ready to sell with rigged numbers. BUYER BEWARE!

No one is buying the REBNY spin.
The REBNY has been exposed.
Putting people out of business.
Putting people out of work.
Putting people out of homes.
The REBNY is not a job creator.
The REBNY is not a home provider.
The REBNY is a greedy gluttony.
NYC and NYS politicians are giving tax deductions and tax subsidies enabling the REBNY to ruin residents lives.

"The Real Estate Board of New York insists that the big retail die-off of 2015 is mostly a matter of insufficient sales. But the tenants tell a different, generally consistent story. As they describe it, the die-off nearly always follows a familiar process: The tenant’s lease comes to an end. At that point, the landlord has several attractive options. He can sell the building for a price substantially greater than the amount he paid for it. Or, more commonly, the landlord simply raises the cost of a new lease to an amount the tenant can’t possibly afford and refuses to negotiate."

The REBNY wants welfare for landlords in exchange for not "rent gouging"

"Tenant activists think Brewer’s bill is much too weak; the real estate association thinks it’s too strong. The real estate lobby would prefer tax subsidies for landlords who refrain from rent gouging, but this isn’t an idea the city council is likely to go for. So the possibility of a stalemate remains, and meanwhile the city’s small business die-off continues."

Yes, this politician's family is physically good looking but why would they name their family instagram account after the most notorious corrupt criminal politician, glorifying, honoring boss tweed? I guess you really don't know someone you thought you knew.

https://instagram.com/bosstweed/

"It's hard not to admire the skill behind Tweed's system ... The Tweed ring at its height was an engineering marvel, strong and solid, strategically deployed to control key power points: the courts, the legislature, the treasury and the ballot box. Its frauds had a grandeur of scale and an elegance of structure: money-laundering, profit sharing and organization.[3]

Tweed was convicted for stealing an amount estimated by an aldermen's committee in 1877 at between $25 million and $45 million from New York City taxpayers through political corruption, although later estimates ranged as high as $200 million.[4] Unable to make bail, he escaped from jail once, but was returned to custody. He died in the Ludlow Street Jail."

Marsh steps down from ST-PCV TA

" ... the new president will be the TA’s former chair, Susan Steinberg.

As for the TA’s hope of going condo, this is not an effort that’s seen any movement lately.

'It’s been as quiet as a graveyard,” said Steinberg. While the TA still believes a tenant-led ownership deal is the best option tenants have for preserving the community intact, Steinberg said the TA won’t know anything else until CWCapital “really gets serious about selling. Nobody has a crystal ball unfortunately.'”

-----

Read between the lines.

Do you really believe Garodnick and the TA dropping "Brookfield" from their vocabulary means they gave up on handing over 100% ownership/control of PCVST and multibillion dollar windfalls to major REBNY predator and TA business partner Brookfield?

Do you really believe Garodnick and the TA gave up scamming thousands of PCVST tenants out of their opportunities to buy, own and govern PCVST, both as an owners association without an unnecessary partner and as individual owners, by instead handing the fleeced (Garodnicked) tenants' opportunities over to Brookfield?

Don't get distracted by ongoing Garodnick-TA dog and pony shows. Don't get suckered into more bus trips for charades up in Albany because they claim that's where the battle for PCVST's future is. The battle is PCVST and the opportunity to buy, own and control it. Senator Schumer's pledge granting PCVST tenants exclusive access to Fannie/Freddie funding amounting to billions of dollars gave tenants, both as a group and as individuals, those opportunities. Brookfield wants the Fannie/Freddie purchase funding. Garodnick and the TA pretend tenants support their scam diverting the tenants' exclusive Fannie/Freddie access to Brookfield. Moelis and Paul Weiss will make the diversion appear legitimate on paper and, as a special favor, will not bill fleeced (Garodnicked) PCVST tenants for ripping them off.

Absent Senator Schumer's pledge granting PCVST tenants exclusive access to Fannie/Freddie billions, major REBNY predator Brookfield has no interest whatsoever entering into any type of business partnership with the TA. Predators don't change values. Garodnick and the TA adopted Brookfield's values. Their value is bringing fleeced (Garodnicked) tenants to the table so Brookfield can assume the tenants' exclusive access to Fannie/Freddie billions. Brookfield gets everything, realizing Speyer's dream come true. PCVST tenants get nothing, realizing Speyer's dream come true. What do Garodnick and TA board members get?

And what does that NYC Mayor standing there doing nothing get? What is it that Brookfield is whispering into his ear?

Hey Preet! Follow the money.

Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town Residents,

The DA of NY county launched a Task Force to root out construction frauds and unsafe conditions. It took a death to get authorities to take action to keep New Yorkers safe. If you encounter unsafe conditions and your complaints are not getting properly addressed by your DOB, City Council Representative, and all who held your bunker meetings to push construction through, start reporting to these authorities too. I can't promise it will work but it is another place to report.

http://manhattanda.org/press-release/citywide-construction-fraud-task-force-convened-investigate-misconduct-midst-historic-

"Vance said an inspection company at the site had repeatedly warned Cueva, Prestia and their companies about safety hazards, but was ignored. On April 6 the safety inspector raised alarms about the unfortified trench, but after a two-hour delay, Prestia's order to Moncayo and three other workers to get out was ignored because they spoke Spanish, he said.

Twenty minutes later, prosecutors said, Cueva repeated the direction in Spanish, just as the trench began collapsing, burying Moncayo up to his neck and killing him instantly as his body was crushed by thousands of pounds of dirt.
"Vance said Moncayo was an undocumented worker who came to the United States after graduating from high school and lived with his sister and her children. City Department of Investigations Commissioner Mark Peters said he had taken a $500 OSHA-required course to learn how to build scaffolding.

The irony here is too great to ignore," Peters said. "An immigrant to this country scrapes together $500 to make sure he complies with the laws . . . A company that can afford to do things right decides to cut corners, evade the law and gets that immigrant killed."
City Department of Investigations Commissioner Mark Peters

The crap loud movie events are supposed to only for "residents and their guests." However, for the last two movie events, there were no PS officers or CR employees checking ID's at the two Oval entrances. I was able to access the Oval for the movie events without anyone checking for my ID. Meanwhile I have personally witnessed non-residents streaming into ST from 14th street and First Avenue, carrying lawn chairs, for these events. The Oval Café has no signs, inside or outside, that specify that the facility is only for "residents and their guests. The Oval Café, the movies, the concerts, the farmer’s market, etc., are commercial activities not allowed under the current zoning law requirement for the interior of PCVST, they are not "resident amenities" since there is no enforcement of the so called (wink, wink) for "residents and their guests“ only requirement. BTW, the basketball tents that will cover playground 11 again this year, one needs only to have one "resident" of a basketball team (5 team members minimum) to qualify for league play.
