Stuy Town Graffiti and other photos of the hood

A worker was getting rid of the huge spray-painted tag or message on a Stuy Town building on 1st Ave this morning. Wonder what it said?

Nothing quite proclaims a slum like graffiti, although it could have been a social message from a concerned tenant. Let's see... That's a "CK" at the end....

Meanwhile CW/CompassRock is creating a luxurious studio apartment along 14th Street, right next to Associated. The view from the window will be charming: trucks parking to deliver goods to the supermarket and, better yet, the daily gathering of bottle returners. You'd have to be an idiot to rent the apartment, given what the monthly rent and view will be--and the noise from the very active street! But idiots can be always found, of course....

A reader sent this one in. Seems the base of our flagpoles is popular for residents to sit and chat--and also popular for dogs to leave mementos behind :

Another reader photo. Seems the loading zone isn't used much for loading or unloading, as trucks prefer to park illegally around the loop rather than use the clearly marked and bright yellow parking area:

Ma'am, you dropped something:

When they built PCVST the objective was Quality of Life (including safety). Our metal doors were chosen to contain fires. To keep us safe. Replacing them with pretty doors defeats the purpose.

WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE???? THERE IS NO OVERSIGHT. WHO IS WATCHING THE STORE??? The graffiti took time to do. Where were the camaras??? Where was security? I almost think that CW is hoping this place becomes a slum. It certainly is well on its way in that direction. There is litter all over. Papers, wrappers, condoms, dog crap. Who lives like this??? We NEVER had this problemWhy the difference??. Are these people simply incompetent??? Are we renting to low lives now???? Very sad state of affairs.

Don't know who is building those studios.

But Christian Heimple, Director of Construction at Brookfield Properties was chopping apartments and installing dorms for years under employment at TISHMAN SPEYER.

It is all the same players all the same company. Brookfield is TishmanSpeyer. They never walked away!

Here Christian Heimple is in 2010. (with Donalda notarizing every document). This is all the same job but his employer is filled out differently on the DOB paperwork. Guess the DOB does not care and the construction here is done by all the same people using many company names.

Construction here is so shoddy and shady

Here is the cracker jack company that did the soil testing bore drilling for the bunker (per december 14, 2012 design plan by FXFOWLE LLP). Yes of course the TA knew years before and was keeping tenants in the dark to cover it up so tenants could not oppose it.

Langan report says nothing about what was really beneath the surface, an old school building, part of 17th street, a big waste pipe, )
Either they are really bad at their profession or they knew and did not report it.

Street Tree Requirements

According to the City of New York zoning text amendment , all new buildings and all enlargements exceeding 20 percent of the floor area must have one new tree for every 25 feet of building road frontage. These requirements are just like other zoning rules in that they must be satisfied in order for the builder to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy from the Department of Buildings (DOB).

http://www.nycgovparks.org/trees/street-tree-planting/requirements-for-new-buildings

Not only did STV architects cut down those beautiful trees for the bunker, they lied on the DOB forms

#4 Exemtions - they claimed this was not an enlargement exceeding 20% of floor area (it increased by at least 60% of floor area.) and they claimed it was not a change in use. (sleazy stretch when the put in oval concierge temporarily (which changed the use to commercial) then built the office saying it was an extension of the oval concierge commercial use.
sleazy and the exemptions are false.

Tishman/Brookfield/Compass Rock (Dan Steinberg and Marsh) did not satisfy the requirements to plant new trees.

Anybody who would rent that space overlooking the Associated's bottle return and garbage dumping bay has to be totally off their fucking rocker. I can't believe that this SCUM is conning people into renting such a space, and no doubt at a ridiculous rent.

Riding through Manhattan tonight in a cab, I noticed how many former nasty, dirty old tenements with fire escape ladders handing down the sides are being advertised as "Luxury" rentals! The only thing "Luxury" is the fucking rent!

Hey, Hayseeds! Manhattan is not the center of the universe. It is a scruffy little island just off Mainland America. If you believe all the hype and pay through the nose to live in a shithole just because it is in Manhattan, then your forefathers/mothers really did swill too much moonshine! Seriously, folks, let's get a grip and realize that because Manhattan is being hyped as THE "in" place to be, people are being made fools of and sold a lie just to line the pockets of a bunch of greedy, asshole landlords who have no morals whatsoever.

I like my apartment, but I would like it even more if it was in a civilized part of the country with a quality of life worth having. They can buy me out anytime for the right price and put a dozen out-of-town suckers in my one bedroom, once occupant unit! Ain't gonna move for anything less than $2million, knowing how much they can rake in by churning my unit over and over to 6 stupid out-of-towners. Otherwise, I'll live here, alone in my spacious, rent stabilized one-bedroom until the day I die. And as I am just skirting 55, that could be a long, long time!

Why doesn't Preet Bahrara look into Fred Knapp, Compass Rock, TS, Brookfield? Eric Schneiderman is as dirty as the rest of them. Cuomo, Garodnick, Stringer, et al are all corrupt filth.

I will vote for anybody BUT Schneiderman and current gang of thieves. In fact, I think I would be tempted to vote for Donald Trump before I'd vote for any of these turkeys. I'm beginning to understand how Adolph Hitler got himself voted in (not that I would vote for him) if he were resurrected), but there comes a breaking point where the people are so pissed off with the liars and thieves that they will follow any demented sociopath who presents as different.

It is interesting that Security is never around when violations occur. Kids jump over the fence into Playground 12 and make a ton of noise, and security which is based in 2 Oval see nothing. Lowlife student tenants leave mattresses outside while moving and it is never noticed. All they do is stand in front of 2 Oval and smoke. I guess they are told to look the other way.

Tommyboy said...

Is there still a Public Service outpost just west of the graffiti? Even if they spelled CK, this took considerable time. The other new "no change in occupancy" apartment is being built just south of the rental office (approx. 15th St.), not to mention the 2 car garage installed behind Associated.

"Christian Hiemple

Incredible!

Brookfield confidently hired this Speyer-CWC contractor 2-3 months before Garodnick and the TA stabbed their PCVST neighbors/constituents in the back dropping the Brookfield bomb on us, destroying our opportunity to realize a genuine tenant led purchase delivering genuine tenant led ownership of the entire PCVST complex as an owners association, without a phony partner-unnecessary intermediary, and confiscating affordable, middle class ownership of our individual homes.

Speyer ... Fortress-CWC-CR ... Brookfield
No difference. Same result. Middle Class purged from PCVST

When did REBNY flip Garodnick?
Did Speyer already own him before defaulting and pretending to walk away?
When did Garodnick flip the TA?
Did Garodnick flip the TA before Speyer defaulted?
How did he flip the TA?
What do TA board members get for betraying their neighbors/constituents?

Nothing gives a more homey touch than turd in the elevators and piss in the stairwells. Who can possibly argue with some of our more responsible dog owners? After all, when Fido has to go he has to go. Heavens forbid, the owner actually would get dressed and walk the canine downstairs?! And who can forget the mounds of garbage left outside the carriage rooms? Imagine, getting the key and actually putting the detritus in the garbage cans. Nah, never happen. Smoke a joint in the hallway. Blast music at 110 decibels. No problema. As vile as the owners and management are, many tenants need to learn how to behave. Clearly, the social contract is irretrievably broken in Stuyvesant Town. Too bad.

If Dan Garodnick/PCVST Marsh Steinberg Brookfield Partnership were a "tenant-led bid" they would be doing everything a purchaser does to get and keep the price down.

Brookfied Construction Manager Christian Hiemple chopping apartments to install thousands of dorm-churning rent increases results in increasing the purchase price, to rip off tenants.

With the Garodnick Marsh Steinberg Brookifield Plan either you get kicked out of your home or you get ripped off when purchasing your home.

"De Blasio sucks. He has already sent NYC back to the 1970's! He needs to go!"

Wrong. De Blasio has not caused any of NYC's current problems in the short time he has been in office. There is a gang of weasels in City Government (led by Stringer and Garodnick) which has joined up with Andrew "Evil Eyes" Cuomo to push the perception that DeBlasio is responsible for the current so-called rise in crime, homelessness, etc. They want him gone because they have their own agenda. The crime and homelessness was just as bad, if not worse, than it is now under Herr Bloomberg. There is a lot of spin being done and it is successfully being done by the slimy councilman and comptroller and their allies, along with the nastiest and most corrupt governor we have ever had. At this point De Blasio is at a critical point. De Blasio can stand firm in his values and make the Stringer, Garodnick, Cuomo keep showing their true immoral selves (this press slam against De Blasio is to deceive the public). Stand firm in his values for the People and we will vote him in again.

Or he can do as he did in his first year, hope to be friends with the Speyer and the likes, align with Speyer (who stabbed De Blasio in the back in Albany) against the People, and lose all around, lose the People's votes and lose his phony backer "friends"

Cuomo, Stringer, Garodnick are all tied closely to REBNY and screwing us. Probably Schneiderman too after seeing that photo of him with our "lawyer" at the Liars Ball.

@11:01 - I was the OP here. I agree that people not picking up after their dogs is a problem, however given the nature of my post, I don't feel your comment was called for. I share your anger at the dog piss and crap, I had a fight with a lady this morning who let her dogs piss all over the American Flag pole. However, I was referring to literally feeling unsafe with vagrants sleeping on benches and they break the light between my building and the next and sleep back there. It then takes months to get the light replaced. These issues are different from the dog piss/crap argument. And I feel your snark is unnecessary when it comes to safety in this capacity.

I don't see how DeB is responsible for the homelessness. You're correct about the crusties, incorrect about Big Bird. Really? Like most right wingers, you must live in the Fox News/Wall Street Journal Editorial Board/Manhattan Institute/NY Post bubble. This talking point, that has been pushed by the NY Post, the NY Observer and other conservative/REBNY media outlets, has been totally eviscerated by Jeremiah Moss’s Vanishing NY FB page and other internet sources as well. These are the facts:

<“Homeless advocates largely agree that the person most to blame for the city’s high homelessness rate is none other than billionaire businessman and former mayor Michael Bloomberg. In 2012, when the mayor famously said no one was sleeping on the streets, there were more than 3,200 people sleeping on the streets according to city data (probably a huge underestimate because the count takes place during the winter when fewer people are outside). Between 2002 and 2013 the city saw a 61 percent rise in homelessness, counted as people sleeping in shelters, according to Coalition for the Homeless. The biggest rise was in families with children (up 73 percent), which advocates say occurred in large part because the administration cut homeless families’ priority access to Section 8 vouchers and public housing. The administration started — and then killed — two other temporary rental subsidies, abruptly leaving many poor New Yorkers without rent support. This was at a time of skyrocketing New York rents, a trend that will likely continue. Meanwhile, a de Blasio administration proposal for a city rental subsidy program called LINC was delayed, then almost destroyed, by opposition from Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Homelessness advocates have called for over 30,000 more supportive housing units — the governor has agreed to 5,000 for the whole state. Although the mayor has been criticized by many homelessness advocates for not doing enough, others point out that his policies are better than those of many previous mayors. As Joel Berg, executive director of NYC Coalition Against Hunger told DNA Info: “Is the mayor perfect? No, and that’s why I continue to advocate. But he’s the best mayor on this issue in decades.”>

“People protesting against the police for mistreating scumbags didn't help either.”

Oh yes, Eric Garner that black “scumbag” who was killed for selling single cigarettes in Staten Island while every weekend in Sty Town, the LES, and the EV, drunk white entitled millennials scream, puke, piss and fight with no consequences at all. See the T&V link. Your racism is so obvious; it blinds you to vote against your own self-interest, year after year.

“Sick of rowdy drunks that barrel though ST”

http://town-village.com/2015/08/28/letters-to-the-editor-aug-27/

Pretty funny that all you right wingers are now pining for the days of Giuliani and Blooomturd (who both hate rent regulations) while living in that heavily NYS RS regulated socialist commie pinko paradise called PCVST. The reason that this place has turned into such a major shit hole is due to Pataki and the Republican led NYS Senate with some major help from Democrats such as Peter Vallone and Anthony Weiner. de Blasio has some major issues but I guess you will be refusing to adhere to the RGB rent increase of 0% for a one year lease and a 2% increase for a 2 year lease, all due to de Blasio's RGB appointees. And I guess you love Cuomo since he is basically “Pataki Light”.

Supposedly said by Jay Gould:

11:32 PM Yours is an excellent post. Thank you very much for posting. I am the poster who said DeB isn't responsible for the rise in homelessness and I don't see how he could be! Bloom turf pulled the rug from under a lot of people who were hanging by a thread to keep their homes by cutting the program that assisted them in paying the rent. Bloomberg was a man who, if he saw a poor man clinging to the edge of a cliff, begging for help, he would step on the man's fingers. Bloomberg cared only for the wealthy, especially the mega-wealthy, and despised the middle class and poor. He especially despised the middle class. I shudder whenever I think of the.vile little emperor!

Hey clueless one, it's a letter by a TENANT to the T&V re the drunken/fighting Bro herds, it’s not a story from a reporter or an editorial from the paper itself (Christopher Hagedorn –such a commie pinko). I guess you didn’t actually go to the link and read the letter. I have witnessed this Bro shit behavior myself many times so if you are in denial about this QOL issue, you surely are in denial about anything that goes down in this now dorm shithole called PCVST, you Blooomturd/REBNY shill.

"LOL"

Richard?

"11:32 PM Yours is an excellent post. Thank you very much for posting."

Why, because it agrees with your supposition without providing a shread of evidence? I won't even argue the numbers of homeless, the fact is that during prior administrations they simply weren't permitted to construct shantytowns on every street corner. The police made sure of that. Don't think you're going to see much proactive policing for a while unfortunately. No, we can thank Deblasio for turning our fair city into the new Brazil......and it's just begun.
