This city cannot survive without real estate developers. To get rid of the old and crumbling and to provide tax revenue.

That said, measured, reasonable quality of life development is not what we have today. Rampant, unrestrained, money-thirsty development is what we have today. It started under Bloomberg, pulled back during the financial meltdown, and now it's just gone nuts under deBlasio who is definitely headed for just one term.

I have never seen real estate developers, big real estate investment companies and large corporations more calling the shots than they are today.

New York is for sale to the highest campaign contribution bidders. Without stringent campaign finance reform here, there will be no middle class in Manhattan soon and along the borders of the surrounding boros.

I give this place another 10 years before it's torn down.

Anonymous said...

I agree with 5:06, except I don't agree with the 10 year guess. This land alone is worth the $5 billion that was paid for it, so I give it 5-7 years.

Anonymous said...

5:06 PM, I doubt it will last that long. They are stuffing it with students and transients and making the quality of life as unbearable as possible for anybody who might want to make it "home" for the long term. They are doing their best to drive out real rent stabilized tenants who have been here a long time and pay a lower rent. Fortunately, those tenants are made of sterner stuff than these bloodsucking scumbags and will not move out without a good incentive! Bullying and harassment don't make much of a dent in people who have lived through the tough times that most real RS tenants went through and just make them more pissed-off than ever. They are not people you want to piss off!

I have been here for many years and am going nowhere unless a wrecking ball comes through my window or a big (and I mean BIG) cash incentive comes in the mail. I'll put up with the shit because I have put up with much worse in my life and am a real New Yorker and not a crybaby from a "where the fuck" state.

Oh boy, here we go

Berlin Rosen is paid $1Million to help Airbnb while at the same time Berlin Rosen is two-faced -- helping the Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town Tenant Association in an anti-Airbnb campaign with that NY Times article, the rally protests and the City Council Housing & Building testimony at the anti-Airbnb hearings.
The Airbnb super pac spokesman prior job was spokesperson for the democratic Attorney General -- who for 6 years has been running an anti-Airbnb battle while at the same time supporting Airbnb behind closed doors.

Yes, Airbnb is here to stay because the politicians and tenant association pretend to oppose it but really they support it, take money from Airbnb and share PR firms and spokespersons with Airbnb.

I've never been a seeker of this place going down before it's time (didn't we make an agreement with Blackstone about this?), but recent events have me wondering. If you were to tell residents that a new building will replace the old, falling-apart one, how many would vote yes? And by new building, I mean walls where you can't hear your neighbor, space in glowing new elevators, hallways that are clean almost without any thought, a tall height (of course) that will provide many "penthouse" views, etc. I do wonder now? Maybe Rick and Company are prepping residents for a brand new "Stuyvesant Town Village"?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It can be done. Not to give Rick and Company any ideas, but doesn't Waterside have a building set aside for tenants who are not rich? We can have a special building, with free ambulatory services, for those true RS old tenants and put them in there so that they are not bothered by the NYU crowd. Put in all the fixtures that will make life easier. It's almost too good to be true! We can even name the place Garodnick Tower in honor of you-know-who!

We have to as citizens, residents and tx payers have some recourse. Rick is no our friend, blackstone wants us out. WHY ISN'T ANYONE STEPPING UP at city hall or xxxxxx to help us. Why don't we organize, why don't we fight back.

We have no balls is why.

STR - I have done management at many of these new shiny buildings going up around the city, and the walls are horrible. Anyone who thinks the walls here are bad need to go in to one of these places. The walls are paper thin.

October 31, 2016 at 8:38 PM The land is a toxic landfill that is not worth billions and is not develop-able unless a corrupt DOB approves it under orders from a corrupt Mayor. It is a good thing we do not have a corrupt DOB or a corrupt Mayor.

I am the 7:38 poster. I am not saying the walls here are good whatsoever, but they are no worse than a lot of places (not all). When I worked on a brand new Condo building in midtown west, they purposefully made thin walls so that the owners would buy soundproofing from their buddies. It's all a scam!

Good post. These guys epitomize and are everything that is wrong with NY government and they have the gall to treat us as if we are honored when they step down to grant us their presence. As if we are lucky they come to a TA meeting to give us their time. Then they go to speak at meetings with business leaders at ABNY and they gush all over the businesses as if the politicians is honored the businesses are giving the politicians their time. They have not delivered a single result that warrants them a minute of our time to hear them speak and the meeting was all about them bragging about themselves.

These politicians profusely thank the businesses for allowing them the honor to speak with them - and the same politicians deign, condescend and lower their dignity to give us any of their time only if in dire straits for a publicity need that betters them. These politicians at this construction site get great results for businesses wall street and real estate only. We would not have any of the problems we face in Stuyvesant Town if it were not created by these same politicians who crowd the podium to fit into the photo op while they tout the continued destruction of this community in the latest deal selling off the property to three players who have been furthering one another while bailing each other out in real estate deals across the country, enabled by the democratic party. These politicians priorities are

1. serve the wealthy money
2. serve the party (democratic)
3.serve thyself

1,000,000,000 serve the people

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The Democratic Party is very strong in the city. They know it, too. If it were someone else, those people would be strong. That's the way it works, whether we like it or not. Mostly we "like it" by our indifference. The politicians know this. So, the City Council upped it salary by over a third. Do you think, after a few months, that anyone really cares? And the tall slivers going up all over. Do you think anyone cares? If thousands of people would protest, the politicians would look, but otherwise....

We are now Ashamed to be a democrat in this city.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Our TA is a joke, of course. Remember the protests outside of the leasing office? Even the then president of the TA, Marsh, did not show up but infrequently. As expected the protests died a quick death. And remember the yellow placard that you were to put in your window, so that people would know you are part of the protest? I barely saw this around the complex. Few care is the lesson. That's why to get anything done you have to do it yourself. Unfortunately, it takes money and commitment, both being in relative short supply.

From what I have heard from fellow residents, Rick talks up a good game (is a good PR) man but does nothing. I guess that his bosses tell him to listen, listen and kibbutz with the older tenants while they follow their own agenda to make this into a transient, student dump.

Anonymous said...

Exactly November 2, 2016 at 8:07 AM. It is another way the politicians are rigging the system to rob the middle class because the current electeds do not want communities as middle class Stuyvesant Town to exist. They want two social classes - laborers and lords. The laborers will be forever be oppressed so the politicians can portray themselves as heroes who save them and the lords will be forever subsidized and provided all the laws to provide and protect their endless profits. Themiddle class has no place to exist in the "laborer and lords" society that city hall, city council and Albany are creating.

A Stuyvesant Town tenant had to stand on her own on the bunker construction too. The attorney general office and tenant association only step in when the wealthier potential condo buyers were in harms way during the 2013 mid-lease increase because the deal is the attorney general office, city hall, city council and StuyTown Association have only ever stepped in to protect the condo buyers and not provide any protections to rent stabilized renters who are facing the same problems the market rate future condo buyers face.

The message to the middle class rent stabilized community from these career politicians is as STR said - "you are on your own" because we are siding with the demolition crew to kick you all out and rebuild redevelop the land for a money making tourist attraction.

Next thing you know the Stuyvesant town Association will be selling tickets for the tourist attractions...oh wait, they already did that with the Berlin Rosen client Barclays Center Circus.

As STR once said You are on Your Own"

Anonymous said...

Do you think anyone cares? If thousands of people would protest, the politicians would look, but otherwise....

November 2, 2016 at 9:57 AM

The politician will look if thousands protest, but they will never care. They will only look because it effects appearances and they care very deeply about their appearance.

Anonymous said...

November 2, 2016 at 10:09 AM or we did not put the signs in our windows because we knew the TA is not about "community unity" but rather "community replacement" and we did not go to the TA protest of mid-lease increases because it was a done deal already with the politicians using the "protest" to pretend they are for the tenants when the attorney general office stepped in to stop the big bad landlord from raising the market rate rents on us mid-term. The protest was not necessary to get the end result. the protest and press coverage was a tool used for and by the politicians so the attorney general office can have something they were reacting to when they stepped in to help the market rate tenants not get hit with the mid-lease increase. The attorney general office then looks like a hero who helped the public but if you look closely only the market rate tenants are helped by the attorney general, councilman and tenant association while all of the other illegal rent charges get blind eyes, deaf ears and mute mouths from the politicians.

There was no need to go to the protest. It was an agreed upon done deal the attorney general office was going to play hero and step in to stop the mid-lease charges we got hit with.

That's just a billionaire predator paying Dan's ongoing retainer fee.

Dan is the #1 "go to" NYC politician selling himself and betraying his constituents for billionaires wanting to buy, sell, transfer and conjure up from nothing the millions upon millions of square feet of development rights they covet and demand. Dan owes his job to these billionaire predators. They want EVERYTHING and Dan's job is to do whatever it takes to ensure they get EVERYTHING they demand from him, which often includes betraying and lying to NYC constituents electing him to defend them against these same billionaire predators. Dan will occasionally ask billionaires owning him to help stage absurd NYC political theatre hyped by P.R. lobbyists spinning propaganda about how NYC residents electing him to defend them against billionaire predators will somehow receive some form of hypothetical, derivative benefit falling out from corrupted real estate transactions that, in reality do NOTHING benefitting the vast majority of NYC residents and in fact in many instances (PCVST) are strategically calculated to take away from NYC residents EVERYTHING they have, including their longstanding NYC homes.

Dan probably knows more about the value of construction development rights than any NYC politician. PCVST 80 acres holds 10.7 million square feet of development rights worth multiple billions of dollars. Blackstone already assembled a 700,000 square foot package that, depending where NYC politicians they own transfer it, may be worth $650 million or more.

Does anyone recall self-proclaiming tenant champion Dan ever publicly informing his PCVST neighbors/constituents (not secretive TA Board) about the value of 10.7 million square feet PCVST development rights and how they could be used to defend us against REBNY/Wall Street/REBNY predators like Speyer, Brookfield and Blackstone? If so, please cite when and where, because it seems our Mayor de Blasio, Council Member Garodnick and PCVST TA Board, all elected to defend us against Wall Street/REBNY predators like Blackstone, very quietly gave all of it away - EVERYTHING - to Blackstone in exchange for NOTHING remotely benefitting any actual living, breathing PCVST resident. Incredibly, our elected representatives betraying us resorted to inventing and pretending a futuristic, lottery winning, income capped, time limited PCVST resident constituency that does not now exist and may likely never exist will somehow, at least temporarily, curb their Blackstone master's predatory instincts.

PCVST TA Board betrayed 25,000 living, breathing PCVST neighbors/constituents for an imaginary PCVST constituency that never paid a single dollar PCVST TA membership dues.

Largest TA in USA?
Funny Not.
Is Brookfield still your partner?

She wasn't even saying that only she was bothered by it, she was saying it is probably unhealthy for everybody. You have to be so careful what you say on that site or you will be flamed down immediately by some righteous asshole.

When it comes to issues that are really detrimental to our wellbeing, such as the dangers of getting slammed down by a bike in the Oval (or anywhere on the property), the landlord putting up flex walls and stuffing numerous unrelated people into apartments, you just can't go there. We don't have a TA anymore. It is just a shill for management and I don't understand why. The TA will probably cut a deal with management about the upcoming MCIs and it will be to management's benefit instead of the tenants. Long gone are the days when the TA actually fought for us, so much so that management's sleazy law firm once demanded a list of its members (which was refused), but that was back in the day when the TA actually had members.

The Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York is on the sidelines waiting for the politicians to clear us out so they can get headlines about "creating jobs" because these politicians do not know how to build an economy or create jobs without destroying one first, then replacing and keeping the public at a zero sum gain. For all the Mayor talk of building affordable housing and the Governor of creating jobs they have the PR teams keep hushed the housing numbers lost and the small businesses out of work. Headlines for political players, jobs for rich union bosses to boast.

421A died because internal fighting when REBNY rich developers did not want to pay union wages for Building and Construction Trades Council workers and instead used nonunion workers (a lot who we saw working in Stuyvesant Town Oval and Bunker).

The politician players care about the rich developers and the union bosses who tell huge membership workers who to vote for and nobody cares or considers the resident constituent needs or when they do it is an afterthought. The deals are made long before the politicians do their little part of pretending to include the communities.

And that is why people are losing their homes and community small businesses are being replaced by superblock megastores. Neighborhoods are replacing 5 small businesses with one chain megastore that gives big money to political players.

The excuse they publicize is gentrification but that is not the truth. Truth is these sordid grubby little players want headlines, money and power for themselves and that is why and how they are the only ones benefiting from this systemic abuse of communities as Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village, Greenwich, Williamsburg, and on and on.

‘De Blasio must go!’ Group demands mayor resign for rezoning snub
With passionate chants of “Racism No More,” “New York City Not For Sale” and “De Blasio, Step Down,”

Mayor De Blasio gave a condescending speech at Crains saying people get angry when they are "displaced" as he continues Bloombergs rezoning to kick out of house & home and move out of sight the types of humans he does not like (middle class) and replace them with his desirable oligarchs and billionaires. Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village has long been on that same clearance rack of housing discrimination evident by the biased MCI allocation.

De Blasio and Bloomberg are the same. We should have just gone ahead and voted for Quinn because all De Blasio campaign promises and the portrait he painted of himself are totally 100% false.

The call is just beginning. The Mayor must go. The City Hall is committing Housing Discrimination of Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village, Lower East Side and China Town "displacing" us to replace with wealthier residents.

"In multiple languages, the protesters called for the mayor to get on the stick and protect Chinatown and the Lower East Side — or else resign.

“I believed him in his ‘Tale of Two Cities,’” she said. “He completely lied to the whole city. I came here to protest the Mandatory Inclusionary Housing initiative.”
She explained that, in the Latino community, “mandato” means to include everyone.

“They think its a law bringing housing to everyone,” she said, “but instead of guaranteed affordable housing, it’s displacing residents who can’t even afford housing under M.I.H.”

A coalition of community groups and activists dedicated to fighting off development that causes the elimination of affordable housing, the working group’s rezoning plan was the result of an eight-year effort.

Specifically, the C.W.G. scheme calls for imposing height caps on new high-rise development, strengthening anti-tenant harassment laws, requiring the city to create more affordable housing, and adjusting the city’s affordable-housing parameters to be in line with Chinatown and the Lower’s East Side median-income levels.

At the coalition’s Oct. 26 City Hall protest, David Tieu shouted to the crowd, “They say, ‘It’s not feasible, it’s too ambitious for Latinos, Chinese, African-Americans, for poor people to ask for equal protection.’ ”

(The city councilwoman is not supporting her community and is taking sides with the democratic party who is in business with the few little coalition of investors and developers who are wreaking havoc on ALL of our lives.)

“This protest is important because if this plan is not passed, we will have no protection from higher rents and luxury buildings,” Li shouted, referring to the C.W.G. rezoning. “De Blasio is ignoring the rights of us Chinatown residents. They want to sell us out, this is why we are angry. Look at the Bronx,” she cried. “Everywhere in New York is having this same problem.”

The coalition’s Ahn said a hopefully far larger protest is in the works for next month.

“We are calling out,” she said, “to all communities facing similar displacement resulting from the mayor’s discriminatory housing policies to come together on Dec. 7 to denounce the city’s racist polices and call for the mayor’s resignation.”

“We are calling out,” she said, “to all communities facing similar displacement resulting from the mayor’s discriminatory housing policies to come together on Dec. 7 to denounce the city’s racist polices and call for the mayor’s resignation.”

A con artist is giving away New York City to grifters and foreign money in a plan hatched by his predecessor.

-----
"421A died because internal fighting when REBNY rich developers did not want to pay union wages for Building and Construction Trades Council workers and instead used nonunion workers ... politician players care about the rich developers and the union bosses who tell huge membership workers who to vote for ..."

That was Mayor de Blasio betraying his union constituents to cut a deal with REBNY billionaires. In exchange for more height/density and longer tax breaks worth billions of $$$$ (and the NYC Mayor betraying union workers), REBNY agreed to carve out an additional tiny percentage of "affordable" units leased to income capped lottery winners for a limited time. De Blasio could make false claims about his misleading affordable metric exceeding Bloomberg's misleading metric by a tiny percentage.

De Blasio stripped condominiums out of his union betraying REBNY deal because condos don't fit into his phony "affordable" housing scheme. Garodnick and PCVST TA Board were always lying to us making false claims about the mayor being "open" to their phony "tenant led" purchase scam delivering EVERYTHING PCVST to our severely conflicted PCVST TA Board's business partner Brookfield, a major REBNY predator investing $25 million supporting and cheerleading Speyer's failed business plan raking in multiple billion dollar windfalls booting the historic middle class community out of our PCVST homes while simultaneously showering tens of millions of $$$$$ on NYC/NYS politicians 24/7/365 ordering them to kill our RS protections, or at the very least maintain RS on the death march commenced by Governor Pataki now maintained by Governor Cuomo, who opportunistically killed de Blasio's 421A extension because the NYC Mayor betrayed union workers.

25,000 PCVST residents were pawns sacrificed in a political pissing match between our NYC Council Member Garodnick and our NYC Mayor de Blasio, both hell bent on delivering EVERYTHING PCVST to Wall Street/REBNY predators we elected them to defend us from. De Blasio won, but Garodnick did not lose. Together, they delivered EVERYTHING PCVST to Wall Street/REBNY predators owning them, including with essential support from a scrambling, conniving Garodnick lying to every party involved at the same time, their PCVST resident constituents' exclusive access to $2.7 Billion Fannie Mae purchase funding that should have funded a genuine PCVST resident purchase delivering genuine PCVST resident ownership.

Wall Street/REBNY predators demand EVERYTHING from the NYC/NYS politicians they shower 24/7/365 with $$$$$. Killing RS has been their highest priority demand for decades. As demanded from them, de Blasio and Garodnick delivered EVERYTHING PCVST to the Wall Street/REBNY predators owning them. NYC Mayor de Blasio and NYC Council Member Garodnick, both elected to protect us and defend us against Wall Street/REBNY predators like Speyer, Moelis, Brookfield, Blackstone, etc., delivered NOTHING - no benefit whatsoever - for actual living, breathing, long suffering, middle class PCVST residents. Take note how their conjured up, hypothetical, lottery winning, income capped, short-time limited constituency that will not replace or survive us, does not have RS protections. Our elected representatives, including the TA Board, outright in-writing guaranteed PCVST middle class extinction.

The labor bosses, lobbyists and politicians are getting richer and advancing their careers while the workers - middle class workers and working class are getting robbed of jobs, businesses and homes.

Lobbyist Capalino & Co profits skyrocketed thanks to de Blasio deals including LES Rivington and yes, including StuyTown dealings.

"James Capalino, Harold Ickes, Sid Davidoff and other politically connected lobbyists have seen their city-related business over the past two years skyrocket while scoring sweetheart deals and other positive results for clients after private sit-downs with the mayor, records show.

Capalino – who records show had at least two other private meetings with the mayor through May of last year – led all city lobbyists in 2014, collecting $8.2 million in client fees. City records for the first nine months of last year show he’s on pace to topple that number, amassing nearly $8.3 million in fees — or nearly double the $4.6 million his firm amassed all of 2013 during the last year of the Bloomberg administration."

I have to admit a failure via the ice cream truck standing near the corner on 14th and 1st Ave. Despite the sign of "No Standing" and despite the truck continually exhaling fumes, it is still there and apparently will remain so. Neither the city nor the police department are interested. And I even went to the precinct with photos!

This is how the law firms funnel straw donor money to control the politicians and get big paydays for the lawyers and the firm. This is why some of the biggest listed donors are law firms and where they mostly donate is to the most corrupt of the politicians. When it comes to dirty money in politics the majority of the dirtiest funnels through the law firms. After all most politicians are lawyers and they go back to the firms after they rig the system fort he firms. It is just another way the politicians are so corrupt and self serving and this is blowing up nationwide as the next exposed scandal by the corrupt politicians taking dirty money.

Our own New York politicians are the biggest takers in this scheme even after the national level leaders gave back the money, our New York politicians kept it. Another reason New York needs new fresh politicians like Wendy Long to replace the New York incumbents who threw this community under the bus by manipulating the Fannie money to the predators and not to the StuyTown tenants.

We could have bought our homes if the New York politicians diverted the Fannie money to us tenants instead of to Brookfield or Blackstone Ivanhoe Cambridge.

Of course, no one cares. This dog shit just stays there. I'm not calling it in because I've already done so on previous cases, and someone else (like a PS person who is supposed to see it) does nothing. I have learned the "rules." Do nothing. Let's all just wait for the rain. Dog shit and piss--forget about it! It is not important.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Well, I voted. Interesting that going to the polling place, I came across dog shit and piss I usually don't see because I don't go in this direction. I took photos. Tomorrow or the following day, I will post these photos. As I said, no one really cares, so this place has gone downhill as the "old timers" will say. Blackstone, as owners of this property, should care, and should have their own people out to check the complex, but they do not really care and definitely don't have their people out in the complex, unless they consider speeding mopeds with PS adequate enough. Which they probably do, but it certainly is not adequate, as a lot seems unreported. The result of my "tour" will not be pretty, but these are big boys (and girls) and they need and can take the truth. They probably "don't care," though.

By law hotel guests linens must be sterilized by industrial machines and not washed in machines like the ones in our basements. That is if Garodnick and De Blasio were even cracking down on illegal hotels at all. Looks like De Blasio and his DOB are doing to Stuyvesant Town PCV what Airbnb-loving Hakeem Jeffries is doing to Dyker Heights Brooklyn letting landlords illegally chop, increase occupancy and run hotels. The democratic party is to blame for the demise of the middle class and the demise of themselves and now we have a terrible new President. The dems should all be ASHAMED of themselves. There are only two options cower, run away or use your dem elected office power for the good of the people against a terrible new policy maker. In Town & Village there is a man going on and on about his take on politics and the Democratic Party. This man misses the point even after the whole country spoke out loud with the power of their votes when making them or withholding them. The Democrats lost because three key state withheld their votes against the established career politician incumbents who got us into this mess with their policies to make themselves and their friends rich while removing all middle class from Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town and the 5 boroughs and letting some working class stay but with poor doors.

This Town & Village Opinion man keeps blaming everyone else but the democratic party. The problem lies within the democratic party where all our local politicians messed up this community and jumped onboard with what has panned out to be corruption in the DNC.

This man, this Mr Bernie Sanders in two tweets of 140 characters or less sums it up:

"The Democratic Party has to be focused on grassroots America and not wealthy people attending cocktail parties."

"Millions of people are willing to put in 20 bucks, 30 bucks, 50 bucks, if there’s a Democratic Party to believe in."

Anyone know the real answers here? This is very upsetting!

Anonymous said...

Research all you can about the new intercoms and make sure they are not usable by the landlord to transit messages into our homes. That was their plan in 2006 to have intercoms they can use to send tenants messages. That practice puts the tenants at a precarious spot because we will have no phone record, or mailed document or email of what they say. Tenants should find their Association and demand all information on how the intercoms will be used, how they function, how records of communications are captured by the tenant for the tenant's records, what the laws are on communications sent through an intercom, if the intercoms capture what a "smart home" intercom captures, there are a lot of legal issues to address before installation into your home.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>STR, if you hate Democrats so much why do you stay in a rent stabilized apartment?<<

Please, sir, may I have some more porridge?

I believe the answer lies in the second part of your statement: "Dems are corrupt, rotten, filthy and flawed." I can take flawed (aren't we all?) but corrupt, rotten and filthy I can't vote for. Sorry.

Our man Dan is now in his third term, but voted before for a two term limit--once he found three terms to his liking. He did not vote for the small business store, which is dying in NYC. He voted for the tower at One Vanderbilt and produced, contrary to his support of "green" publishing, a long glossy portfolio of the property, owned by Stephen Green, who has become one of his biggest donors. Just a powerplay to have Bloomberg disappear, of course, and then have Dan take over. Perhaps a mini water-fountain will keep the plebs happy.

Why should I vote for him and others like him? It should be embarrassing to be seen smiling at the camera with your fellow REBNY lovers. Yet there they are.

As to the first part of your statement, why should vets or relatives of vets feel thankful for their apartment? These are people for whom this property was built in part. Should these people get on their knees? (I remind you that I am also a vet.)

FU to that sort of thanks.

Take a look outside. My next post should have photos. This mess is what PCVST has become thanks to the people who think more of money than anything else, some of our politicians included.

Str thank you and ignore the nasty comment posters. I dont mind the mess much here, oddly so, i mind the increases, the noise problem, the Mci scams and the rent.

This speech makes me angry. He had an opportunity to co-op Stuyvesant Town like Penn South and to allocate a lot of co-op apartments for young military families of soldiers currently serving overseas and for housing Iraq and Afghanistan vets but he did not do that. Instead he gave the land to the biggest and wealthiest developer to turn it into a disney-like resort for the rich. These speeches where politicians talk about how great they themselves are, just like the politician's speeches at the last tenant association meeting, make me angry. They are complete crap. The local politicians are doing to smallest amount possible for the veterans then PR spinning grandiosity of their efforts that actually amount to gestures for political appearances. The Mayor is building more wealthy housing for second, third, fourth pied a terre homes for the uber rich then building, creating young military families and veterans with their first, primary, sole home.

The REBNY cocktail party photos do indeed say it all.

Any one single Real Estate developer gets more tax breaks and subsidies then all the rent stabilized tenants in the entire NYC combined. Do you think they don't ask for more and more because they feel they deserve more and more? Stop telling rent stabilized tenants to shut up and be happy with what we get. We get a teeny tiny fraction of what the democrats give to their REBNY buddies.

It will get worse now under the real estate developer that is in the White House. The democrats have behaved are no different than the developers.

Rent Stabilized tenants have the right to demand more, and above that even more. And then again, even more demands. No different than the developers.

November 11, 2016 at 11:42 AM the New York real estate industry does not need the low level New York politicians because they now have a real estate guy in the White House

"We have a New York City real estate guy in the White House," said Peter Hauspurg, the chairman and CEO of the commercial real estate brokerage Eastern Consolidated. "There's a sense that he's not going to pass policies that will hurt business, especially the one he came from.

Several industry executives predicted a Trump presidency would do little to upend years of rising real estate prices, foreign investment, and favorable tax breaks.

Donald Trump's upset presidential victory on Tuesday Nov. 8 sent ripples across financial markets and shocked the country's political establishment, but the city's real estate industry, where the Trump family made its fortune, remained unshaken."

The principles and platform of the Democratic party remain pretty much the same, but the politicians don't conform to those policies and principles except in areas where there are no political risks.

Here in NYC and across much of the country this means currying favor with real estate interests and developers.

But to think or suggest that Republicans are any better is to make a very big mistake. They'd get rid of tenant protections in a heartbeat.

There needs to be another party here or another kind of candidate. An FDR Democrat prepared to be transparent, to listen more than talk and stand up to the special interests.
