A Case of Mistaken Identity?

This is the blog post by Sabina Mollot:

https://town-village.com/2016/12/06/jew-man-graffiti-seen-across-from-stuy-town/

Garodnick tweeted on December 5th a not-too good photo of the graffiti. He didn't get much of response, but TA Facebook has been full of pronouncements about the graffiti, and now the "discussion" is shut down.

Today, during lunch break, I went near Papaya, the store over which is this graffiti, and took photos.

Let me state that the graffiti cannot be seen by anyone in Stuyvesant Town. To call it, as Garodnick does, "in the community"--well, maybe. (T&V: "Garodnick later said he had never before seen anti-Semitic graffiti in the community.")

Now I realize that Garodnick is trying to promote "New York Values" to the country, and he and his friends can certainly do that, but the truth is that the graffiti is NOT seen by anyone in Stuy Town and definitely not from where Garodnick lives in Peter Cooper Village. At first I was quizzical about the actual photo, as I know it can't be seen in PCV. This would not be an issue if the graffiti was anti-Semitic, but actually seeing it, I'm not sure. At all. The graffiti doesn't seen to be racist and could very well be someone just "tagging" the sign with an amusing, to him, caption.

All this noise about how hateful it is, is just that--noise. Unless we know different. Right now it appears not to be racist, and just a use by Garodnick to have the high moral ground and promote his petition. There may be some justification if Garodnick may feel threatened, of course. But at this point the graffiti may be completely innocent.

Meanwhile, an incident involving a NYC police person, who happens to be Muslim, has been confirmed. This is where our anger should be focused right now.

Dan Garodnick is a self-serving, disingenuous two-faced lying twit.
Dan, who was publicly "opposed' to Bloomberg's coup giving the Mayor a third term, had no problem swallowing his scruples and seeking his own third term on the Council. How much money have you taken from your NY Real Estate Board cronies?
A TOTAL phony. He did NOTHING to maintain the affordability of Stuy Town yet presents himself as some sort of savior. A small, little man. Thank goodness he will be gone in a year. Adios, Danny Boy!

He will be with us. Somehow.

We could have just as easily gotten One Vanderbilt with Bloomberg. It was a simple power play by Dan, who loves One Vanderbilt. Just check his periodic announcements and the money in donations he has received for his support.

Three Term Dan is constantly looking for media exposure, he's about to be term limited (again), and trying to position himself for a new gig. Stringer elbowed him out of the Comptrollers slot last time around, and it doesn't look like Scott's got the balls to take on the mayor next election, so that's out for now.

Just last week Dan held a press conference, demanding that the feds reimburse NYC for Trump's security costs. Sounds fair enough, but then you realize he's a fucking city councilman, pretty much the lowest rung on the political ladder. What's the point? There are certainly elected officials like Schumer, Maloney and DeBlasio, way above Danny Boy's pay grade, already working on that.

I don't think anyone other than the NYDN gave it any coverage, who wants to listen to a powerless weasel state the obvious?

Atomic Man, you said it well. Garodnick does behave as though he were more important than anyone else on the City Council. It must have pissed him off no end that he got neither the Comptroller or Speaker positions. I would never vote for him, no matter what he goes after in the future. There are Council persons who show much more interest in their constituents welfare than he does. He's done nothing for PCVST that has helped us. In fact he has worked against us and just about hijacked the TA. No former Council person we've had has done that.

Good man that Dan.

Speaking of towers getting built, all 156 apartment units are empty and the same StuyTown brokers listing of Gilman Hall for $80 million means noise, construction, digging up 17th street and those money making air rights surely will be transferred or sold.

Wait till PCVST air rights are finally sold here and there. I'm sure the bitching will start, but you know what? We accepted it, as did the TA.

It will only "end" once every last penny will be squeezed from New Yorkers. Which means it will probably never end.

Bring on the noise, the construction, the digging! More, more, more, please.

What about the overcharges ?

Anonymous said...

overcharging for the stuy one bedrooms is quite a joke in December. All around the hood there are nicer, larger enjoyable and quiet one bedrooms closer to the subway under 2900. These crooks are moronic.

More BS from the world's most useless TA. Gag me. Happy Santa-Con, ya'all!

Video of Dan Garodnick's forum
A Call to Action: Advancing New York Values from Your House to the White House

New York is a sanctuary city, a haven for diversity. Many are concerned about recent threats and assaults aimed at specific ethnic and religious groups and are wondering what actions to take to counter hate crimes. To assist, Council Member Dan Garodnick put together a forum for those who want to get involved in advocacy on the local level and learn about organizations already in place.

If you couldn't attend the forum, you can watch the video. After Council Member Garodnick's remarks, panelists were Faiza Ali, who spoke of her personal experience after 9/11; Daniel Altschuler of Make the Road New York; Meg Barnette of Planned Parenthood NYC; Rashida Richardson of NY Civil Liberties Union; and Yasmin Safdié of the Anti-Violence Project, which serves the LGBTQ community. Before the forum, attendees had the opportunity to pick up information from various community and citywide advocacy groups. You can watch the forum at https://www.facebook.com/dan.garodnick.1/videos/937811803020053/ (sideways for a bit but then OK).

The TA is just about useless, btw. But we know that, don't we? Still of megaphone for Dan Our Man.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

BTW, there are, and were, power outages in certain buildings in Peter Cooper. Check with management or the TA for official news.

I see everything has been restored. Otherwise, a damn silly page.

the lack of carpeting here on the property is fucked up nonsense. Call in every issue and write down the name of the person who shows up. make sure you follow up with the office on first avenue repeatedly until they are blue in the faces. i got carpets since my kids run like mad but everyone else in our building finds it not necessary. the guy above me is going to hear from me at 5 am saturday morning while he sleeps off hangover.

Not a word in the building signage about getting rugs, 80% rugs.. blah blah bullshit here. If Rick wanted to, he'd post it. too busy promoting himself and the oval amenities.

Forget AirBnb, the pot smoke, the dog shit in the hallways, the urine in the stairwells, the wayward bike riders, the bullshit MCI's...Stuy Town has reached a new high...or low...I've been told that there are "working girls" now in our lovely community.
It is a safe, quiet locale and our pleasure-giving ladies can operate from their apartments with a minimum of hassle or risks.
I know Security is looking into this.
We have Oval Kids, Oval Study and the renowned Five Turd Café.
Why not Oval Brothel?
"Mabel, get off the table, the three dollars is for the waiter!".

7:24 AM. You called Security and they did nothing? Maybe you should have called the cops. Did you video record any of this? That is outrageous. Where is Rick the Dick when it comes to enforcing House Rules? OMG! This place has really gone down the shitter.

Anonymous said...

11;21: YOU DO KNOW that when you call security, they arrive when and if they can. Then they will either ask the offending tenant to stop whatever it is, and they leave. So said tenant stops for five minutes and picks it up again. You cannot call the COPS as you put it for a party in a building that's loud. And the video recording to do what with?

Really?

Anonymous said...

12:31 PM, you CAN call the cops. I know that because I have done it. You call 311 and you PERSIST! Making a video recording is evidence of the disturbance and you can send it to management, McLellan, put it on social media or keep it for when you take the offensive bastards to court. If you keep calling Security when you have justification to do so, you can contact the Legal Department and there's a good chance the offending tenants will not have their lease renewed or may even be evicted. Nobody has to be a victim in this day and age. The part was described as being out in the hall, i.e., the common area. Nobody has the right to have a party in the common area of the building. you fight fire with fire. If there are drugs and underage drinking involved, you make damned sure the cops come. I have done it and other neighbors of done it.

"not have lease renewed"

therein lies the problem my friend. Those tenants are not renewing, found a better place closer to the subway, and less exensive. One dude admitted it. They want to be evicted. And the pattern goes on and on and Blackshit loves it because they can raise the rent every move out.
