What? Not One Official Takes a Tour?

The photo below did not turn out well, as far photo quality goes, but you can see what met my eyes, this time in the early Sunday afternoon, west side of the 20 St loop. This sight meets residents daily. BTW, mattresses that are not disposed of properly are a violation of city law. Many mattresses that I see in Stuy Town are NOT disposed of properly, and no one, in an official capacity, seems concerned these days.

THE OTHER HALF

Mattresses I can deal with...dog sh*t all over the place, urine in the stairwells, in the elevator, turd around the Oval path, on the Oval lawn, that is too much.
The carriage rooms look like a disaster area. Garbage everywhere. The level to which this once lovely complex has sunk is disgraceful. Hey, no need to despair. At least we have the "amenities". Nothing to soothe the soul like an ear-splitting "concert" after coming home from a hard day's work. Or a tasty artisanal treat at the eColi PigStuy Oval Café...yummy!

Just so I don't forget, the next front page post should be about "implausible deniability." Unless we find out what happened with that hockey attack....

How much is Blackstone paying the hockey stick attack victim and T&V to keep quiet? I've never seen anything like it on this property. Absolute dead silence.

Anonymous said...

Blackstone is disgraceful and Rick whatsisname should be ashamed of the job he's doing. Or not doing. What used to be a very pleasant and peaceful and safe residential community is now a dirty, dangerous, sloppily-run dorm. Maybe they are deliberately running it into the ground for some reason. It doesn't make much sense to me. This Rick guy seems to only be interested in adding gimmicks, but has no real interest (or maybe capability) of managing the property in a competent way. I'm surprised they put him in charge because I'm sure Blackstone has better people who could do his job and do it right.

Anonymous said...

I mean where else can they put all the garbage that's pumped out of these dorms? Don't you remember around the holidays how packed and fire hazard ridden these rooms were?

Can't change what's happening here, just have to flow down feces river. This guys are here for the next 20 years. TA doesn't care, management doesnt care, PS has been down sized and told not care... It is what it is. I hate it but I'm locked in at a good rent and I've lived in worse so I'm staying / stuck here like most of you.

Anonymous said...

Restless night led to me going for a midnight run, and instead of heading south along east river park I figured I would do my run through the property. 10 miles, which included 2 loops around the perimeter and than hitting everything inside the property numerous times, and I saw not 1 guard.

Seriously, how long is it until they start allowing frat and sorority signs to hang from our buildings? I'm guessing 2018...

Anonymous said...

Rick Hayduk isn't the problem Blackstone is. His bosses tell him him how to manage or mismanage the property. They are intent on turning this place into a dorm/hotel dump and are doing a good job of it. A lot of the blame should go to Garodnick, the other politicians, the TA and our lousy mayor for pushing this deal.

Can't get to sleep before 1-2Am because of the running upstairs without carpets. So glad I got my schooling done years ago when this place was run properly and people would have been evicted for the things that go on now.

The changes here a disheartening but more important they lead to all sorts of sleep related and stress related diseases. it's just not worth it.

I too have a great rent for Manhattan but I know I'm not stuck here unless I want to be.

Rmember: No one is stuck unless you want to be.

Hotel / Dorm Dump courtesy of the Mayor.

Thanks to an earlier commentator on a previous thread who posted about corruption pay to play deBlasio and his administration we now know why there are illegal hotels in StuyTown. It seems the hypocritical Mayor helps his friends get away with illegal hotels. The meeting resulted in Rechnitz evading a vacate order. The Mayor helps his "developer" pals evade vacate orders while his OSE Parra and successors pursue vacate orders on tenant New Yorkers whether or not they run hotels, and as we all know the StuyTown developer Blackstone has a cozy relationship with the Mayor. It gets creepier and creepier the more we learn about this Mayor.

"Rechnitz, who’s since pled guilty to corruption, also asked for help with violations he got on an illegal hotel. And, sure enough, a top mayoral aide arranged a meeting."

Inadequate solid waste management that leads to visual blight and noise pollution has been a persistent problem going back to Campus Crock, Tishman Speyer and Rose Associates. Stuy Town Welfare Hotel said...

It has come to my attention that Stuy Town has begun to rent to the city on a short term basis housing for homeless families. It is being done on a very limited, very hush hush basis to prevent the uproar which is certain to follow when this becomes public knowledge. In other words, Stuy Town has become a glorified welfare hotel.
A true win-win situation for the City ( they don't have to pay $500 a night to hotels ), a win for Blackstone ( apartments rented at astronomical prices ), and the long-time residents...NOT...just another example of the fu*k 'em attitude by Management and the pols. Where are you Tenants Association? Garodnick? Hoylman?
This will all come out in the news very shortly.
Your thoughts and comments, STR?

A dozen press articles o how Rob Speyer, NYU Deputy Mayor Shorris and Goldman Sachs Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen are able to run City Hall because de Blasio is napping. Anyone who has ever had a co-worker nap in the office knows about this behavior all too well. Of course City Hall denies this but come on already; it is obvious.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

BTW, one of the things that gets my goat is someone telling a poster over at the TA Facebook: "Have you called PS?" or "Have you called Rick?" This response is frequent.

It is not the job of residents to tell PS or Management what is going on. It is up to people who get PAID to know what is going on.

Anonymous said...

"It is not the job of residents to tell PS or Management what is going on. It is up to people who get PAID to know what is going on."

Thank you STR. So sick of being told to inform Rick the Dick or so-called Public Safety. Why can't the TA take these matters up with Rick? What the hell is the purpose of the TA? Does it have any purpose other than having a facebook page for tenants?

Anonymous said...

"It is not the job of residents to tell PS or Management what is going on. It is up to people who get PAID to know what is going on."

You got that right! We have cameras in every lobby and all over the property and yet people are dumping furniture and getting away with it; moving out at 2 am and getting away with it; leaving building doors propped open for extended periods and getting away with it. We have absolutely no Security/Public Safety here. The least the TA could do is sue to get our MCI for all the security cameras refunded! We have been totally scammed.

Anonymous said...

"Why live here? You all hate it so much."

There is a difference between "hating a place" and "hating what bad people have done to a good place". Most if not all of the comments I see fall into the latter category.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I was also a bit smart alecky in my response to "hating" this place. To hate something is a pretty strong feeling. I don't "hate" living here, but I do have quite a few strong complaints about this place--which Blackstone should have too! Unfortunately, while Blackstone talks and talks, it does not effectively follow through. It is not too hard to manage this place if you have the resources and the will to enforce. If you don't have the resources (manpower), then hire more and/or better. As for enforcement, same thing goes. And we have all those monitors!

The lack of carpeting is mentioned, but why not do other things, too? Having all those people with suitcases register is simple, though more workers will need to handle the extra work. Stopping delivery people on motorized bikes is simple, too. And you have monitors, too! Okay, so you don't do it every day, but what about choosing a day or the week to stop and turn around these motorized bikes?

A lot of "issues" can be dealt with if there is proper enforcement. And once this property is known for proper enforcement, once residents see that the "change" has arrived, then many of the problems are solved or at least a serious attempt is made to solve them.

As it is, the word is that Management just doesn't care as long as the apartments are filled and the rent is paid.

Anonymous said...

I wish somebody would send those photographs of the dumped furniture some viral program that would go all over the internet with the announcement that this is how Blackstone runs a residential property. Dumping furniture is what people do in a slum and Blackstone is running this place at the level of a slum. Even the NYCHA projects are better than what we are dealing with here.

Anonymous said...

STR, can you post those photographs of the dumped furniture on Yelp or Google?

I used to love this place.
On many levels I still do.
However the sense of community has been lost.
It is simply a cash cow for Blackstone.
They will rape this place for every last penny.
What enrages me is the cowardice and complicity of the politicians, Danny Boy Garodnick, Diblasio, Hoylman and, of course, our heroic Tenants Association President, Bikini Susan Steinberg.
What a bunch of phonies! They should all be in jail.

Anonymous said...

What 7:04 is saying does not surprise me. I have a strong feeling that the tenants next door to me are city subsidized . I even heard someone come to the door and say that he was "public assistance". I think that De Blasio is in cahoots with Blackstone. It is hard to prove and even if we did, what could we do about it. It is true that as long as the apartments are filled and the rent is paid by someone, management does not care. If they did they would go through these apartments with a fine-tooth comb. The demo here gets increasingly worse.

Anonymous said...

Tenants do not need permission from anyone let alone the TA. Tenants can talk to StuyTown Property Services, or Rick or go above Rick's head whenever tenants chose to do so. The TA is supposed to take tenant matters to the landlord so the tenant is safe from landlord retaliation but since this TA is not fulfilling any of their responsibilities including that one go above them, go around them, don't waste your breath on the TA. Even if the TA fulfilled their duty to take tenant complaints to StuyTown Property Services it is probably better to avoid them because one cannot be sure they will protect the tenant's anonymity seeing as the TA admitted their admiration and close 'n' cozy relationship with StuyTown Property Services.

Anonymous said...

Can tenants file a lawsuit against the TA for access to the financial books?

Anonymous said...

I don't see how you can stop a motorized bike flying by. Unless you chase him to a building and lock the bike down, but you need to be a member of PD. Most of the PS guys don't have the pd shield just Stuytown.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

You can stop motorized bikes easily. First, you don't have one PS officer standing around, which usually happens. At least have two in one area. If the bike still goes by, then you have the 24/7 monitors which are suppose to see all. You have a couple of PS officers monitoring those monitors and in communication with the PS officers stopping, or trying to, motorized bikes. That combo, boots on the ground (and not just one), plus the monitors connected to boots on the ground will soon find out who the lawbreakers are. And their restaurant. Wash and repeat, as many times as you need.

I offered my services, free, to PS.

Before anyone starts whining and crying for the tenant association, here is a reminder that the tenant association admits to colluding with admiration and gratitude for the Rose Associates aka Ivanhoe Cambridge CW Capital Compass Rock aka Blackstone - Ivanhoe Cambridge Stuy Town Property Services actions and inactions all along. Who exactly is the partner of the TA? Brookfield is nothing more than a mass of real estate brokers who are members of the Canadian Real Estate Association. Sounds like a Canadian REBNY of sorts. That is who the TA partnered with on the recommendation of the City Councilman and his law firm Paul Weiss and of course the puppetmaster REBNY.

This post is geared to Real R/S tenants who have subleted their apt.Don't mean to change the subject, but I was wondering if anyone thought I might have a problem subletting my apt for 5 months and 3 weeks each year for as long as I like. The law states that one can sublet for 2 years in any 4 year period. Does it have to be 2 years straight? I realize that my dump needs to be my primary residence which is why I intend on staying here one week over 6 months every year.

As many have already stated, I too also despise living here but I'm trapped due to the affordability of my rent. I would like to, for at least 6 months a year, live like a human being somewhere.

Eh, I disagree. Adam Rose (the other one, if we are talking about him) may have been concerned about the landlord making money, but he was also concerned about the property. I still remember him monitoring in person some of the concerts and that they were not too loud, the noise from which residents were complaining about. @7:20 am, sorry, but I don't buy that nonsense at all. I don't think Rose Associates and the TA were in any kind of conspiracy whatsoever, and I liked Adam Rose. He was responsive to tenants' complaints and concerns, and that is something you could never accuse the current management of being!

The letter in T&V was written by a former TA leader expressing his sycophantic silliness and should be ignored. There are so many conspiracy theories put out on this blog and much as I dislike the TA, I don't go along with the cloak-and-dagger nonsense that gets spewed here.

Anonymous said...

I used to see Adam Rose walking around the property and he did not attract attention like the Wonderful Rick; he just walked around quietly taking in what was happening. When I had a problem with a bunch of assholes in a neighboring apartment, he assigned someone to take care of it and they did take care of it. I had dealt with the infamous Donalda and told AR I would not deal with her anymore and he was very sympathetic and actually helped me a great deal. I never met him personally, but I knew what he looked like and that's why I recognized him when I saw him walking around the property, looking like a tenant rather than a manager. As STR said, he would walk around and take in everything. I think he was a very nice guy and a real professional.

I don't know why so many of the dead wood in the management office were kept on, but maybe they had contracts or were in a union.

Anonymous said...

"As I said, this place can work if the will and the priority are there. The "rules" should be enforced."

Agreed. If we had a professional management team and a real TA, this place could be wonderful. The current TA should just disband and go away because it is a totally obsolete and useless entity at this point. I think it's true that some of the TA board members are in bed with management and Garodnick and that is why their ability and desire to represent the tenants is so compromised. There should be a major housecleaning at the TA or it should just cease to exist.

Rick's ass doesn't need any more kisses. It needs a few kicks.

There is no doubt that there was an overreach by previous managements in getting RS people out. Before he disappeared from this community (in a manner of speaking), Dan Gardonick had the figures and so did the TA, before the TA disappeared. I think the percentage of residents who fought and won to stay as RS tenants in this complex was higher than those who chose to leave, and some of the latter did not want to put up a fight. That said, someone who has a house in the Hampton's should not be living here as someone who has very little money. There were scams going on in "this side" too. But, as I said, there were residents who were falsely accused. No naming of names, as some are still around, and I don't want to revisit and debate old battles. But I do acknowledge that things were not rosy (no pun intended) as they may seem.

On the hockey stick front, there has been some slight movement. This from the T&V comment section:

>>Steve, first we’d have to find out who the victim is though we don’t usually get that info or disclose that when we do. We are trying to learn more. When suspects are minors their identities are not shared with us by the NYPD, which means we don’t know when their court dates are or even if they’re going to criminal court or through some other system.<<

Of course, you know what I think about disclosing info about "minors," who just happen to be teenagers. Given that, there is still no further info about this attack.

August 10, 2017 at 2:13 PM this is not surprising given the cozy relationship between politician appointed judges in the courts and the real estate developers. It begs the question why would anyone in their right mind use the courts to go up against a landlord or developers. It was also not surprising that no landlord has ever been convicted of harassment or any of the worse crimes that landlords commit against tenants. No tenant ever wins against guilty landlords in 20 years tells a lot about the deeply entrenched ubiquitous court bias and sends a clear dire message to tenants "don't even try it."

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Yesterday's Oval movie was incredibly loud. I had my window open to take on the cool breeze and the movie sounds were quite annoying. They can keep their non-amenities and they have nerve imposing them on Oval residents.

I'm still yet to see a single person using the fitness playground. Other than looking good for leasing prospects, it has been a failure in terms usage.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>Yesterday's Oval movie was incredibly loud.<<

I think a segment of residents have to "suck up" the Oval amenities like the movies and the concerts. The movies and concerts are too good for promotional reasons. That is the thinking inside, very inside, the box, even though the actual tenants who are at these amenities is very, very small when compared to the actual number of residents living here.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Of course, the residents who live at the Oval and who are disturbed by the noise can put down every incident and its time. I believe the landlord says something about noise in the lease. If so, and this noise is atypical, then....

Those movies and "concerts"on the Oval remind me of when the FBI tried to drive the folks at Wakko into surrender by blasting them with loud, ugly music. It didn't work, as we know,, but it was a method of torture the Feds tried.

Just come out, all you Oval dwellers, with your hands raised above your heads!

I saw Rick walk over to the concert last night and snap a few pictures and videos with his phone. The best part was that there were like 20 people at the time (it got a little more crowded) and he positioned himself to make the crowd look much bigger than it was, obviously for marketing these farces and making them look like they are attended by more people than they really are.

On another note, on the TA Facebook page, a father posted a note that was sent to him about having his kid on the fitness playground. This is all nice and good, but at the bottom of my list in terms of things that management needs to be enforcing. If McClellan can send out letters about this, how about tenants who leave doors propped open? Steal laundry carts? Leave unwrapped mattresses lying around? Move in and out at all hours of the night? Don't have carpeting?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Unless I'm mistaken, and as of yesterday I wasn't, there are no DOB filings listed on the M or T levels of my building regarding the work and noise coming from apartments on the 3rd and 1st floor. Is this lack a common problem in other buildings?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It seems that our landlord doesn't care that much. A lawsuit, even if successful (and certainly time-consuming and money depleting) is not going to do much to make our landlord cry. On the contrary, even if the "win" is a thousand dollars, the sum is made up by one month's rent from one new resident. Why worry, thinks our landlord?

Anonymous said...

August 11, 2017 at 9:53 AM The landlords want tenants to take them to court for harassment so they can bully, intimidate, and cost tenants a lot of money while harassing them in the courts, prying into their privacy even further knowing no New York City Judge will convict a landlord of harassment. The landlords win every case in housing court because there is only one of two outcomes - tenant ordered to pay landlord so landlord gets a lot of money from tenant or tenant evicted/landlord gets apartment from tenant. The housing courts sections are set up so one sided all the cases are brought on by landlords. There are zero cases brought on by tenants in entire sections of housing courts purposely set up for landlords to harass tenants with litigation. When your landlord or anyone advises you to file a harassment suit they are giving you harmful advice that will only serve to help the landlord harass you more and cost you loss of money while Judges are annoyed at your existence and berate you for costing the landlord money each time their lawyer has to appear in the courts. Before anyone files harassment against the landlord, research the courts records and think twice!

I just looked at the TA Facebook. While I have not been at this former playground on the weekend, where I predicted the use would be greater, I have seen it several times on the weekdays, and the new outdoor gym was underused. I still would like to know if the cheerleaders on the TA are using it and running the wavy track. LOL.

That aside, I was disheartened but not surprised to read: "Nor did the Public Safety officer ask for our names, key cards, or ID."

I can't fault the rules being enforced, but are they really enforced?

It is perplexing how much coverage these two scandalous real estate deals get while not a mention anywhere of the StuyTown dirty deal. Although Rivington is still under investigation, all these "investigations" seem more like pretense that end with a predetermined no criminal charges or no evidence of crime. Rivington is a shameful disgrace of historic proportion and the email in this article shows the Mayor's true intent and love for developers while hurting constituent's communities.

"The emails from 1199 on the subject started in January of 2015.

When the first sale went through, City Hall quickly notified the union. In February of 2015, a City Hall aide wrote: "We completed the Rivington House transaction late this afternoon. Many thanks to you for your help."

Finnegan responded with: "Yahoo!"

LICH is a sham scam deal that robbed the community but hey, there was a great handcuff photo opp used to fool the public before he pulled the plug on the community's hospital so Yahoo!

Thank you to NY1 for keeping City Hall on notice and the Public informed with the FOIL.

5:00AM, Saturday, August 12th
Two HUGE beasts, (a bull mastiff and a great dane perhaps?)squatting down next to each other right in front of the 5 Turd eColi Café, their owners happily chatting away with each other.
They both took a massive sh*t, the boulders the size of one of those glaciers that break off and fall into the ocean in the Arctic.
At that very moment, one of the Public Safety vehicles was leisurely driving around the Oval RIGHT by them.
Did they stop and say anything?
Surely I jest! Of course they didn't.
The two dog owners chuckled, walked away, leaving their canines' droppings for the early morning breakfastiers at the 5 Turd eColi Café.
YUMMY!
"We'll have another one of these tasty artisanal pastries please.

What I do know is that Chowes got some money, via her lawyer. I don't not know if she wanted to help tenants at the Oval, whatever that help means, but the light was shed by her not to just take things because management says so or acts a certain way. Though it is not simple to stand up for oneself, the fact is that there are city rules that should be obeyed and rights that tenants do have.

Also I do know that it can be hard for Management to get rid of certain people. The city has protections, even some we can argue with.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

By now I think I have personally spoken to everyone who is in charge here or right below, and the response has always been the same: "Yes, we agree, but you should know that we have.... (fill in the blanks)." So, the response to residents is that Management is doing everything they can to make sure the rules work. My response is simple and stated here many times. I will report what I see and not what I am told I should see. Big difference. I also offered a challenge, which still has not been taken up: Sit with me and experience the same things, or, if you are right, things being taken care of.

And, yes, Management past and present knows who I am, as they have made it a point to know via their monitor system. So it is not just the folks at the new gym who are being monitored. I guess the monitors do work if.... (And now you fill in the blanks.)

Anonymous said...

They have those goofy concerts and movie nights on the Oval, but there hasn't been any spraying to kill mosquitoes around here. There's already been one death from West Nile Virus in NY. MetLife always used to have the property sprayed. With all the rain we've had, as well as the watering system we have here, mosquitoes have a very thriving existence in PCVST. Maybe Rick thinks West Nile and Zika only occur in places like Florida and he doesn't have to worry about it here.

Just another Garodnick/TA Board troll practicing character assassination, lying and deliberately misquoting Caryn Chow, whose PCVST resident experience and court victory expose long term Garodnick/TA Board malfeasance.

https://town-village.com/2015/07/20/stuy-town-woman-gets-partial-rent-abatement-for-construction-noise/#comments

Chow received a temporary “30% rent abatement” and said, among other things during her T&V interview, “My goal is to help others if I can.” She was describing her personal philosophical outlook. She never mentioned anything about helping tenants assaulted by noise on the Oval, or helping other tenants generally, or helping tenants with their court cases – problems similarly harmed tenants should anticipate help with from Garodnick and/or TA Board, both of whom Chow dismissed as worse than useless.

Chow’s story reveals Garodnick/TA Board STANDING BY DOING NOTHING for years while CWC diverted disaster relief $$$$$$$ away from what it was intended for - protecting the entire PCVST complex (our 11,227 homes) against future storms (see storm wall encircling VA Hospital). Instead, CWC needlessly constructed a mostly underground office building along 1st Avenue, chopping down trees, shaking buildings, polluting and permanently degrading QOL for an entire section of PCVST residents. Throughout that time Garodnick and his puppet, our hijacked TA Board, STOOD BY DOING NOTHING, ignoring and tamping down resident complaints because they thought our incredibly conflicted TA Board’s business partner Brookfield would inherit a brand new office building free of cost and free of blame.

In response to comments posted on T&V about Garodnick/TA Board failing to support her, Chow provided direction:

They really should spray this place. Maybe I'll call 311 tomorrow and see if the City can make misManagement do the right thing. I know one thing for sure, if I had little kids I wouldn't want them playing outside anywhere on the property with all the mosquitoes we have here. I'm surprised the Moms and the pregnant ladies haven't complained because if a mosquito has Zika virus, it will cause terrible birth defects. I know there have been West Nile cases in NYC, but I don't know if any Zika cases have been reported.

Even if she said she would help everyone by the oval, that is not her job. That is the job of Dan Garodnick and our TA, and they failed her and every tenant that has been affected by the allowed (by Dan and the TA).

If you ask me, you are a TA board member or Dan's little minion, because why in the hell would someone question a tenant who fought on their own? If you ask me, she lived up to her word and helped every person living by the oval by showing them that can fight the landlord and win. Facts:
According to the tenant's own websites it is her job to help others and she is a highly successful "expert" at helping others. It is not her direct job responsibility as it is for the TA and councilman Dan Garodick, but it is her job by trade.

In her words, she is a highly successful television personality on network television who lives a life of luxury flying on private jets and even piloting private jets herself. According to her own words, her "job" is too help others and her high level of success at her job affords her a luxury lifestyle.

When a successful "coach" tells a newspaper she wants to help others, it does not seem unreasonable for others to ask for more information about her helping others.

She had or has a call in radio show for giving coaching help and advice on iheart radio, maybe tenants could call in for help or hire her.
