No comment, yet

The latest news is that two suicides happened in our complex. A few things I could say. Angry things. Probably not the time, though.

We should know more this week.

Of course, Management will say "But what is it in your apartment?" Well, in my living room, it is hovering right now about 70, but the other rooms? I know that the other day my hands were cold inside the apartment, and they are getting colder and colder now.

STR, all of us were led to believe what the TA and Dan were telling us about finding out at the last minute. This story, as told by the Treasurer of the TA, refutes everything we were led to believe. This exposes Dan and the TA board as the liars most of us knew they were.

I haven't had any heat since very early this morning. The temp in my living room is 69 and in the BR it's 65. The bathroom is like a meat locker. So sick of these perfidious, parsimonious fucking lowlifes who are running this place. There is a lot of flu and pneumonia going around this winter and I wouldn't be surprised if many of the elderly get sick and die. That is what management wants. Lack of heat can affect the elderly inasmuch as they catch viral and bacterial illnesses more easily and the lack of heat can make them confused.

I wish I could afford to take out a full-page ad warning people not to rent here. The best I can do is spread the word by word-of-mouth as far and wide as I can.

STR--
why are you pushing this story that the "bros" and the students are the worst noise offenders? are you writing all these comments yourself?
you never publish comments criticizing the families that make JUST AS MUCH NOISE IF NOT MORE than the students, and who are old enough to know better
stop creating this false narrative that everything would be ok if blackstone would stop renting to students. some students are fine. the problem is people of whatever age who think they are entitled to make as much noise as they want, whenever they want. these people, who are often families, are trash. sorry. this is truth. if you don't like it go shove it up your @##$.

"The current info is new to me, as I'm sure it is for a lot of people."

Perhaps some of the details are new but the nature of the organization is not new. They operate in smoke and mirrors. Nothing is as it seems with the TA and this looks like some deep panic cover up tall tale about the biggest real estate deal in the country coming together by Happenstance in the Hamptons. A tall tale to distance from the truth that it is not happenstance but rather a methodically planned billions dollar real estate venture.

Just to go back to that post complaining about noise being one-sided. I regularly mention that I have no problem with younger people in my building. I am nice to everyone, so I don't know what the commentator is doing, other than not really aware of the blog and trying to start trouble. We've had a couple of comments (the same person?) that attempt to paint this blog and myself in a bad light. I am aware of this.

Not all of the noisemakers are students by any means. I have two young couples living on my floor who are the young banker types. They are noisy, have noisy friends up, have no carpets (as evidenced by the echoing sound of their voices) and the hall reeks of pot from both apartments every weekend. One couple is very rude and leave boxes out in the hall for days. We have had students in those apartments (they turn over every year or so) and they were pleasant, clean and quiet.

That Sheehy article is one of the slimiest articles ever in Town & Village. It is shady as all get up. What a piece of work.

Anonymous said...

Sheehy owned a $5 million dollar Hamptons home. Then Sheehy got two rent stabilized apartments and turned them into one large "mansion" apartment for himself thus removing two rent stabilized homes from people who really need them. 11 years later the Peter Cooper Village apartment went market rate. Technically for 11 years Sheehy illegally lived in and illegally obtained apartment that was really two illegally obtained apartments. That is a big dirty deal.

Who gets to do that? What owner of a $5 million house in the Hamptons is given 2 Peter Cooper Village apartments to combine and live in at rent stabilized rates for 11 years? Who is this guy that he gets to break the law?

Lawyer John Sheehy was asked to leave his firm because he was overcharging the firm's clients a series of times. The firm claimed fraud. It is so outrageous it may need repeating.

John J Sheehy was asked to resign from law firm Rogers & Wells over a series of client overcharges.

John J Sheehy overcharged his clients and his employer asked him to leave when really he should have been criminally prosecuted. It would have saved any and all future victims of him.

"Ex-Rogers & Wells partner pursues lifetime benefits in court
By The Lawyer 25 November 2003 11:20

A former Rogers & Wells partner who was asked to resign over a series of client overcharges may be entitled to lifetime retirement benefits, a Manhattan appellate court has ruled.

Former litigation head John J. Sheehy, who agreed to take early retirement in 1995, claimed the firm had breached an oral agreement to pay him lifetime benefits under its partnership agreement. The court found that the partnership agreement did not require a written agreement to grant supplemental retirement payments, New York Law Journal reports."

It was also my understanding, as reported by Charles Bagli in the NYT, that the deal was struck between Blackstone and the DeBlasio admin (Alicia Glen), and that Danny Boy and the TA only found out after the ink was dry.

Then again, I don’t know why anyone (except Blackstone) would want to take credit for it - the city wound up giving away the farm in return for a mere temporary stay of execution.

They are told to be nice and polite to older tenants. That is all well and good but Management has no right to subject us to living in a dorm atmosphere because they can’t rent these overpriced apartments. The deal

Blackstone and Dalian Wanda were doing the same thing at the same time in StuyTown NYC that they are doing in Sydney, clearing old buildings to build multi-family luxury condo-hotel tower:

Here is the truth of the money that was being moved between Blackstone and Dalian Wanda:

Blackstone to sell prime Sydney property to Dalian Wanda for $327 million

Blackstone acquired Gold Fields House, located in Sydney’s central business district and overlooking Sydney Harbour, as part of its purchase of Australian property group Valad in 2011.

China’s biggest property conglomerate plans to build a 5-star hotel as well as luxury residential and retail developments at the location, the company said in a statement. “We look forward to creating a new Sydney landmark,” it said.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-blackstone-group-dalianwanda/blackstone-to-sell-prime-sydney-property-to-dalian-wanda-for-327-million-idUSKBN0KZ03V20150126

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Fields_House

The Blackstone Tishman Speyer Blackrock Brookfield-Tenant Association(Sheehy) and so on plan was to do the same thing on this land here in StuyTown. To demolish Peter Cooper Village first in 2013 - 2014 to build the new iconic luxury condo hotel.

That is the truth that they are covering up for a boatload of reasons.

-----
That's a slick, misleading, deceitful politician's response.
Clinton: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman."
Trump: "I have no investment in Russia"

Incredibly conflicted TA board member Sheehy quietly set up the nonprofit political slush fund that NYC Councilman/REBNY slave Garodnick streamed cash into for years. PCVST residents were never informed about Garodnick's ongoing "gifts" that cannot be traced directly back to Moelis, Brookfield, Blackstone, etc. We do know REBNY/Wall Street predators were bankrolling Garodnick.

Predators are insatiable. They want EVERYTHING. They will not bankroll NYC/NYS politicians that do not deliver to them EVERYTHING they demand. In this instance, they demanded EVERYTHING PCVST from Garodnick. In order to comply with EVERYTHING PCVST demands from his financial benefactors, lying, conniving Dan had to first disenfranchise his PCVST neighbors/constituents. Ever resourceful, he somehow hijacked our disgraced, incredibly conflicted TA Board, effectively transforming it into a shell vehicle delivering EVERTHING PCVST into the claws of REBNY/Wall Street predators bankrolling him.

After Speyer tried and failed to rake in multiple billion dollar windfalls destroying our PCVST community, it goes without saying that any honest politician would defend us against similar predators determined to succeed where Speyer failed. How did Garodnick, a demonstrably dishonest NYC politician openly celebrated by REBNY/Predators bankrolling him, achieve such a monumental deception? It was not until years later that comments posted on STR revealed that Garodnick had been similarly bankrolling our disgraced, incredibly conflicted TA Board via nonprofit political slush fund.

Garodnick is/was no tenant champion. He fired off a few angry, sometimes threatening, but largely harmless letters. He sponsored some toothless, unenforced legislation. He could put on a good show, displaying a stern face, wagging a finger, pretending he was a thorn in the side of REBNY/Wall Street predators bankrolling him. At best, he was cheerleader rooting for the other side to win. When did lying, conniving, double talking Dan ever not deliver EVERYTHING demanded from him by REBNY/Wall Street predators bankrolling him?

Disgraced TA Board is worse than Garodnick. Their PCVST neighbors were their sole constituency. Without blinking, they should have tossed Dan out the window immediately after he first mentioned the word "Moelis" in their presence. Think about that when the TA Board calls for volunteers hopping aboard their next bus trip playing out the same old played-out charade up in Albany, a corrupt swamp where confident REBNY/Wall Street predators bankrolling Cuomo, 100% GOP and sufficient DEM are ensured EVERYTHING they demand will be delivered to them. Blackstone is happy to pay for t-shirts and busfare.

It is disappointing to read the comment from the TA Chair Farrelly defending the Treasurer Sheehy. You would have thought the Chair Farrelly would appreciate learning about the shady past and ordered an audit of the books. It goes to show that the Chair Farelly and the Treasurer Sheehy are in it together and keeping secrets from the tenants like unethical business practices of overcharging clients to such a large degree that the law firm is at risk and fires the lawyer.

Did Roger & Wells tell all the clients who were defrauded by Mr Sheehy and pay them back?

Did a client catch the fraud and report it to the law firm or police or did the law firm catch the crime, fire the lawyer then go about business without reimbursing all of the clients?

Farrelly is a lawyer.

These are questions he should be asking and then giving answers to tenants to assure tenants that the tenant association is operating ethically and lawfully. Instead Farrelly bashes tenants for providing facts to other tenants that tenants should have had all along. The treasurer and the chair of the tenant association board, both lawyers sworn to uphold the law, have a lot to answer for including that there is no reason not to open the books as tenants have been calling for.

Knowing now that the tenant association treasurer was fired for serious accounting frauds a normal response from the tenant association chair would be to audit the books, unless the chair is in on the reasons to keep the accounting practices of the tenant association secretive from the tenants.

This situation is unacceptable. So is the response from the tenant association chair Farrelly.

The tenant "Steve" is right in his response to tenant association chair Farrelly on Town & Village.

But instead of just investigating the treasurer and the books, with the commentary from chair Farrelly in Town & Village it is clear the investigation should go all the way up to the chair with Farrelly and all who have been chair during Sheehy's time involved with the tenant association board.

There is no good reason for a tenant association board to install a treasurer who has a serious criminal offense related to accounting practices and no good reason to hide that from tenants. There are only bad reasons to install a treasurer as that and only very bad reasons to hide all of this from tenants.

The tenant association chair's response in Town & Village is disgraceful.

"Incredibly conflicted TA board member Sheehy quietly set up the nonprofit political slush fund that NYC Councilman/REBNY slave Garodnick streamed cash into for years."

Yes they did.

Now the question to be answered / exposed is how the TA board and Dan Garodnick then used and spent that money.

"We do know REBNY/Wall Street predators were bankrolling Garodnick."

Including CB Richard Ellis CBRE who is the broker on the Stuyvesant Town deal and who CEO of the New York Tri-State Region of CBRE Mary Ann Tighe is photographed sitting with then councilman Garodnick at the REBNY gala laughing all the way to the bank.

The broker for the predatory $5.4billion MetLife Tishman Speyer BlackRock deal, CBRE Mary Ann Tighe and the city councilman Dan Garodnick are celebrating at the REBNY gala while the city councilman is moving cash into the severely compromised tenant association that the city councilman partnered with predatory developer Brookfield Asset Management.

CBRE CB Richard Ellis, city councilman Dan Garodnick, the Brookfield Asset Management tenant association partnership had a large slush fund used to support the tenant association's condo deal.

So the question is on what, who and how did city council and councilman Garodnick and the tenant association use that CBRE, Brookfield, City Council, tenant association slush fund money?

The Tenant Association is spinning out of control.

Some comments with facts and truths are posted anonymously to inform tenants of the facts and truths and the Tenant Association Chair makes a statement against the tenants being informed "anonymously" instead of the commentors using their names. Maybe the commentors don't want to be attacked by the Tenant Association Chair who just let it be known to all that he, the Tenant Association Chair knows about and is covering up unethical and unlawful acts by the Tenant Association Treasurer.

Quite obviously the tenants have to remain anonymous or the Tenant Association Chair will make statements against tenants who are telling the truths and facts.

Maybe if the Tenants Association Chair was not on the offense against tenants who are telling the truths and facts, then the tenants would not have to do it anonymously. Maybe the Tenant Association Chair should stop being on the offense against the tenants and not just when the tenants are exposing truths and facts about the Peter Cooper Village Stuyvesant Town Tenant Association Board Treasurer but at all times. Maybe the Tenant Association Board Chair should stop being on the offense against tenants. Then again by making the statement in the Town & Village, the Tenant Association Board Chair exposed himself and his complicity.

Keep it up then, keep making commentary and let's put it all on the table. Let us tenants see the Tenant Association Board for who they really are, how unethically and unlawfully they operate and let us see the Tenant Association Books.

Some of the questions:

How many dues members are current? In what year was the greatest number?

How much money does the organization currently get? From whom?

How much money does the organization have? (For instance, is there anything in "the bank" and where does that money come from, if it is there?)

How much money is spent? A breakdown would be appreciated.

Who in the organization gets paid? And what is his/her salary?

I assume that these are some of the important questions. Are there more?

Who outside of the organization gets paid and for what?

I agree with 12:31. No way in hell am I putting my actual name out there when speaking the TRUTHS about these people in their role in the TA and the TA in general. Bottom line is that I’m a nobody and these are people with some fairly significant power or with connections to some powerful people. Personally I’d like to keep my nobody status!

The fact that I’m a nobody, and remain anonymous, does not mean that I can’t ask questions of the people/group of people that were chosen to be the voice of the tenants. Unfortunately, they haven’t been the voice of the tenants for a long time.

I seriously hope that someone posting on here about Sheehy’s law firm resignation for shady accounting (stealing money) is not the first Farrelly heard of the situation. If it is, it means two things - 1) he’s not very good at research, 2) Sheehy should be removed from his role with the TA immediately.

My guess is that he knew of the whole thing, and there is a lot more to the story than he is ever going to tell.

Honestly, I hate these people more than I hate management. At least management is doing its job, and I expect to be screwed over by them. I don’t expect to be screwed over by group that is supposed to be protecting us.

That is the best story they could come up with on how the Blackstone deal came about to cover up how it really came about? That the TA Board Treasurer Mr Sheehy who did not own the property asked infamously notorious hedge fund landlord if his company wants to buy the property while the two of them were in their Hamptons driveways and during the time when the TA Board complained that Fortress CW Compass Rock who did control ownership of the property refused to talk to the TA Board about selling the property to the TA Board Partnership with Brookfield Asset Management. This is the weakest tall tale ever spun.

March 23, 2018 at 2:29 PM There is this too.

Blackstone and Brookfield were using the same construction developer in Sydney as in New York City for the same price of $1billion, Wanda Group Dalian Wanda.

There is something fishy with these waterfront real estate deals.

Brookfield, Wanda Group and Blackstone did the same deal for construction of $1billion waterfront resort luxury hotel condos in Sydney as in NYC so it is doubtful that Brookfield backed out and Blackstone stepped in due to a Tenant Association Board who complained they had no power to get Fortress CW CR to sell making an off the cuff solicitation to his neighbor.

Lobbyist and close friend of DeBlasio, James Capalino arranged for Brookfield's construction developer Wanda to meet with Mayor DeBlasio on March 25, 2015.

Both Brookfield and Blackstone also met with the construction developer Wanda on July 28, 2015.

https://www.politico.com/states/new-york/city-hall/story/2016/09/capalino-story-105186

This bullshit story about Blackstone entering the deal due to a conversation in passing is just that, bullshit.

Brookfield, Blackstone, Wanda Group had the StuyTown development planned long ago. For some reason Blackstone and the Tenant Association Board are trying to distance themselves from Wanda Group Dalian Wanda and the meeting that James Capalino arranged for Dalian Wanda with the New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio.

Wanda signs construction contract with Brookfield Multiplex for Gold Coast Jewel
08.04.2016

On April 6, Wanda Ridong officially signed a contract with Brookfield Multiplex Group, entrusting it to be the builder of Jewel, a landmark project in the surfers' paradise Gold Coast.

The signing ceremony was held in Palazzo Versace hotel, Gold Coast. The delegation from Wanda Group's headquarters in Beijing arrived at Gold Coast, met the senior management of Brookfield Multiplex Group and signed the contract in the signing ceremony. Ms. Jackie Trad, Acting Premier of Queensland, as well as Ms. Kate Jones, the Minister for Tourism and Major Events of Queensland, attended the signing ceremony. Other attendees included Zhao Yongchen, Counsel General of China in Brisbane, and Ms. Donna Gates, the Deputy Mayor of Gold Coast.

Chen Guocai, Vice President of Wanda Commercial Properties, said that, as the biggest property development enterprise globally, Wanda Group would create this masterpiece in Australia's construction history together with Australia's biggest construction enterprise. "Jewel will become the most high-end residential property and hotel development project Australia has ever seen and will bring unparalleled luxurious experience. Wanda Group is looking forward to creating this masterpiece with Brookfield Multiplex Group."

Jewel, whose total investment is near AUD 1 billion, is Gold Coast's only beachfront five-star hotel and apartment project, and also the city’s first beachfront resort in the recent 30 years. The three magnificent towers of Jewel will meander through 130 meters of beach and include 512 luxury apartments, one five-star hotel within 169 rooms, high-end commercial, retail and dining spaces, and 816 underground parking spaces.

Give Capalino & Co credit where credit is due. Capalino & Co lobbyists arranged for the meeting between the construction contractor of $1 billion dollar luxury hotel / condos and the Mayor of New York City DeBlasio. If they ahd pulled this off they would be basking in headlines but because their dirty plan got derailed they are covering up the Capalino & Co arrangement between Blackstone, Brookfield-Tenant Association and Wanda Group.

Because they are all a bunch of filthy, corrupt scum. If they ever dared to open their books, they would probably all be indicted for corruption and fraud. They are clearly scared of being caught.

How about detailed accounting of every penny from where the money comes and to where / whom it goes.

An accounting of all outgoing expenses in detail on all that they spend their money -- each and everything penny by line item with thorough detailed explanation of the expenditure.

On what is the TA spending its money? On what is it spending Dan Garodnick's money?

Who authorizes each and every expenditure?

A list of all expenditures.

A list of all individual, corporation and law enforcement recipients of money from the TA and the reason why.

A list of all leases the TA uses, holds, has.

We know Steve Sanders and his lobby firm was given money. How much and for what? What was the end result?

What did Steve Sanders spend the money on?

We know Steve Sanders kept several leases in Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village were any of them paid for by the Tenant Association?

Why did Steve Sanders twice lease the apartment at 276 First Avenue 11H?
Who paid for it?
Who else used 276 First Avenue 11H?

Here are some of Steve Sander's known addresses

Years ago, the TA was so effective that MetLife's skeevy attorney, Sherwin Belkin, demanded a list of TA members. The TA refused to furnish it. In those days the TA was run by a whole different group of people. I think that JoAnn Polise was the Chair or Secretary. How things have changed. Even under Al Doyle it was still pretty good. I used to show up for all the meetings, paid my dues regularly and volunteered when I could. What happened?

March 24, 2018 at 5:36 PM

Skeevy is the perfect word for them.

MetLife's skeevy attorney Belkin represented Tishman Speyer with Skeevy Firm Skadden Arps in the Roberts case.

Equally skeevy Greenberg Traurug represented MetLife.

Skadden Arps is so skeevy they are skeevy BlackRock's firm and the Chief legal counsel at BlackRock was formerly a partner at Skadden Arps.

BlackRock and Skadden Arps are as skeevy as they come.

PER BLOOMBERG PROFILE: Mr. Matthew Jonathan Mallow served as the Chief Legal Officer at BlackRock, Inc. from 2015 to November 22, 2016 and served as its Senior Managing Director until November 22, 2016 and served as its Interim General Counsel since February 2012 and Senior Advisor since June 2010. Mr. Mallow was responsible for all legal affairs and regulatory compliance for BlackRock. He joined BlackRock in 2010 in the legal and compliance department. Mr. Mallow served as the General Counsel at BlackRock Investment Management LLC.

Previously, he was a Partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP, where he led the firm's corporate finance department advising investment firms, global corporations and governments in a variety of financing matters.

Skadden is so skeevy they make skeevy Paul Weiss look like good guys.

"An unprecedented overseas deal spree has seen Chinese companies gobble up everything from New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel to US cinema chain AMC Entertainment, theatre production group Cirque du Soleil and a near 10 per cent stake in Germany’s Deutsche Bank.

Four previously little known private companies — Dalian Wanda, Fosun International, HNA Group and Anbang Insurance — have accounted for $56bn of outbound dealmaking from China over the past five years, according to data from Dealogic.

That has put their ambitious and politically connected leaders on the must-call list for international financiers. Perhaps the most feted has been Wang Jian, HNA’s co-chairman, who was the guest of honour at a February fundraiser for the Jewish Museum of New York. Guests wore masks with his likeness while host Steve Schwarzman of Blackstone Group — which has sold assets to HNA and Anbang — presented Mr Wang with a crystal bowl engraved with gold roosters."

August 2017 Bankruptcies and business losses abound with bankruptcy filing of Soupman Franchisee (of 453 East 14th StuyTown and Staten Island);

followed by Weinstein and Co and its investors including Dalian Wanda Wanda Entertainment who is owed $14,000,000 begin spiraling down and are under civil rights and criminal investigations and just declared bankruptcy in 2018;

2018 American Chopper and its Burger Franchise spirals down to bankruptcy and fraud allegations after a 2012 stint on NBC Trump Apprentice and a 2010 publicity stint with the FBI and a custom chopper;

Dalian Wanda Group spirals downward in 2017 and then sells overseas debt properties and developments and becomes a management company 2018 as revenues plunges.

Brookfield Bruce Flatt, Goldman Sachs Lloyd Blankfein, Blackstone Steve Schwarzman and Politician Bill DeBlasio fail to break ground on the New York City Wanda Group Dalian Wanda $1,000,000,000 luxury condo hotel and criminal probes and bankruptcies and fraud accusations abound.

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/201803/23/WS5ab4a17ca3105cdcf6513dff.html

There is also the fact that Dalian Wanda is a Capalino & Co client, and met with Bill DeBlasio and all three of them Capalino & Co, Dalian Wanda Group, and Bill DeBlasio are embroiled in the Rivington House scandal.

Dalian Wanda Group did not build the NYC hotel and ended up selling off the Sydney Brookfield property:

http://money.cnn.com/2018/02/23/investing/wanda-hna-anbang-buyers-turned-sellers/index.html

To give a theory on why the secrecy, pick from any of the above scandals from which they are all distancing themselves. Or go with the fact that Blackstone, Brookfield and Dalian Wanda are in business together, met in New York City in 2015 when they believed they finalized removal of the barrier in the way of breaking ground on the $1,000,000,000 condo hotel. Or go with Dalian Wanda Group being so corrupt it is in business with Weinstein & Co, Marvin Rubin and Capalino & Co Rivington Scandal, Politician Bill De Blasio's inflated-affordable-housing-numbers deal with Brookfield, Blackstone and Goldman Sachs for StuyTown or the former Hotel Association lobbyist Neal Kwatra Ed Mangano Bill DeBlasio scandal with Harenda Singh corruption case going on now.

Dalian Wanda Group, Weinstein and Co, Capalino & Co, Blackstone, Brookfield and the TA are in it together and are in deep.

Pick a scandal, any scandal or pick a investigation any investigation, they all fit to answer the question on why the secrecy by the StuyTown TA Brookfield Blackstone Partnership and they explain why as someone pointed out above, the TA makes joint statements with Blackstone.

We are getting a lot of comments, and some multiple ones, hovering around the recent Sheehy mess. I will continue to take a look at this, as I think it is important. I will also stress that the info that we, the tenants, have received can be challenged. Right now it seems the TA is unwilling to open "the books" for whatever reason. I also see a number of things happening outside that is against "the rules." The explanations from Management can be nice and smiling, but, unless there is EVIDENCE that I see, I can't go along with it. But perhaps I am a magnet and see what no one else does. I doubt it, as there are tenants who see the same things I do.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

And how many times do I have to say this? It is not up to me or any tenant to report and keep on reporting the infractions that take place here. There ARE people who are getting paid to do a job. Let them to it! And, yes, monitoring things so that these rules are followed efficiently and even done at all is part of someone's job. And I am not talking about the kitchen sink.

Yet they do not do their job. The female employee here has a job to inspect and accurately report carpet violations and she has lied time and time again.

Sheehy personally opened this can of worms himself, and the TA board should be pissed with him, as it goes against everything they have been telling us. But no, Farrelly personally responds to defend this thief and go after tenants voicing their concerns and opinions about Sheehy and the TA.

The tenants need an attorney to go after the TA at this point. They have been wronging us longer than Blackstone has been around, and the time has come to put these TA criminals behind bars. And yes, the longer they keep their books shut, the stronger my suspicions get that they are acting criminally. Otherwise what do they have to hide?

So where are our lawyers??

What they posted is a theory and listing of historical facts. A pretty sound theory at that. Historical facts that support the first claim by the TA about working for years on the deal and disclaim the second claim by the TA by Sheehy.

Anonymous said...

I've never thought of the TA as being corrupt until Garodnick came on the scene and pretty much took over the organization. They really should open their books if they want to clear their reputation and redeem themselves in the eyes of so many disappointed tenants who used to admire and support their efforts. I admire the way they will go and give testimony about rent regs, etc., but that is what a tenants association is supposed to do. What I do not admire is their secrecy and their very obvious fawning relationship with Management and our not-so-pristine politicians. Evidence mounts all the time that DeB is corrupt yet the TA seems to think that he shits cake and pisses champagne because of the two rent freezes. I certainly welcomed the rent freezes, but I think the gesture was designed to hide a multiple of sins!

Open the books, TA. If you've nothing to hide, then you've nothing to fear.

2016 the TA took credit for making the Blackstone deal with a love letter in the Town & Village to the Blackstone management staff just before Blackstone was set to make a big announcement in 2017 -- but that got delayed.

2018 the TA again takes credit for making the Blackstone deal this time Sheehy sits smuggly in the Town & Village article with a photo. Guess they killed off whatever delayed them in 2017 and are ready to make an announcement as soon as the suicides are out of mind.

We agree with March 25, 2018 at 12:46 PM:

de blasio is trying to fire the chief of department of investigations for doing his job. This is an important article for every New Yorker especially if de blasio is involved in business with your landlord like Blackstone.

City politician wants new law to bar de Blasio from firing critic

Special Counsel Robert Mueller isn’t the only government prober who’s job is in jeopardy from a resentful pol, according to a Bronx lawmaker who wants to protect the city’s chief investigator from being fired by Mayor de Blasio.

Democratic Councilman Ritchie Torres says he will call Monday for a new law requiring council approval before the mayor can oust the commissioner of the Department of Investigation.

“Expressing disdain for good-government, law enforcement and investigative journalism, as the president has done nationally, and as the mayor has done locally, represents a profound disservice to the public,” according to a copy of the speech Torres plans to deliver.

“Here at home, we, too, have fallen short: we have seen an insidious assault on the independence of DOI and local investigative journalists. I have been troubled by both public and private attempts at discrediting the DOI commissioner, as well as investigative journalists, who have drawn the ire, and therefore the political disfavor, of City Hall.”

Torres’ proposal would have the Charter Revision Commission being convened by the council amend current law governing the DOI.

He plans to formally introduce the idea during a DOI budget hearing before the Council’s Oversight and Investigations Committee, which he chairs.

Torres — who predicted support for the measure— said it was based on a New York Post report that in November revealed how de Blasio was itching to fire DOI Commissioner Mark Peters for exposing a slew of administration screw-ups, including the blockbuster that New York City Housing Authority boss Shola Olatoye falsely told the feds 55,000 apartments had been checked for lead-paint hazards.

At the time, sources said the only thing holding back de Blasio was an obscure provision in the City Charter — which applies only to the head of DOI that would require de Blasio to explain his reasons for firing Peters in writing to the Department of Citywide Administrative Services.

If he did that, Peters would still be able to fight his firing by demanding a public hearing at which he could make his case for keeping his job.

However, the charter fails to address hearing oversight or who has final say. This little-known provision has never been put to test in DOI’s 145-year history, officials said.

“The article itself exposes a loophole in the structure of government, one too glaring to overlook,” Torres said.1 “The Charter contains no structural protection for the independence of DOI from political retaliation.”

Peters’ critical NYCHA report followed others that ripped the Administration for Children’s Services over the slaying of several kids, and faulted the Mayor’s Office of Contract Services and others for letting a Lower East Side nursing home at 45 Rivington St. get turned into luxury condos.

Peters’ aggressive pursuit of official malfeasance has surprised many observers who expected him to be more of a lapdog than a watchdog after serving as de Blasio’s campaign treasurer during the 2013 mayoral race.

But the former state prosecutor and civil-rights lawyer established his independence despite having established a friendship with de Blasio when they both served on a Brooklyn school board in Park Slope during the late 1990s.

The mayor’s office declined comment.

John Sheehy admitted that he is behind and accountable for all that Blackstone executives and staff do to tenants. Hold him to task on that.

Anonymous said...

If the TA were pursuing tenant ownership then the TA would have fought to keep the price of the property down instead of doing nothing while the price of the property went from $1.8 billion to $5.4 billion. The TA protested none of the illegal amenities, construction, wall partitioned dorms churning, any of the things used to increase the property revenue and the property price.

From what John Sheehy says the TA did more to make the Blackstone ownership deal happen then to make a tenant ownership deal happen.

How badly does a lawyer have to defraud his clients for the firm to fire the lawyer? This must have been a large amount of money for the firm to go that far in addressing the fraud against the firm's clients.

The comment by the TA Chair Kevin Farrely on the article about TA Treasurer Sheehy is very revealing. It is no surprise or coincidence that they both have houses on Long Island.

November 2016 Blackstone, Ivanhoe Cambridge, Wilbur Ross, Ben Shaoul, moved a mortgaged of roughly $175million in approximately 295 leases to investor entities - leases including Stuyvesant Town apartment tenants who are these investors that are leasing their apartments to universities for dorm housing through Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross' company First Dormitory LLC. (links to mortgage information embedded at end of email message).

Now the TA has an article in the Town & Village bragging about how the TA made the Blackstone deal happen. That explains why the TA never protested the dorms or any of the ways that Fortress increased the price of the property so Fortress can reap the bonus windfall and the TA can support the developers plans not of tenant ownership but of profit centers.

Wilbur Ross, Ben Shaoul and others have a $174million mortgage - owning over 290 leases that are Stuyvesant Town apartments (Block 929 lot 135 - main building registered as 332 First Avenue for purposes of city water etc) in a deal by Fidelity and Greenberg Traurig that houses dorms. Many of those apartments are former Brookfield TA partnership members who are now part of the Ross Shaoul package leasing out their apartments to dorm housing of students.

Anonymous said...

The Sheehy article says that the StuyTown Tenant Association Treasurer Sheehy arranged for a meeting between Blackstone and a politician, Dan Garodnick in October 2014.

The Sheehy article absoultely warrants an investigation of the StuyTown Tenant Association for a lot of reasons including Sheehy's prior accounting bad acts at the law firm not precluding Sheehy from holding a position controlling the accounting finances of a Tenant Association let alone a tenant association with the largest size of tenant homes put in the hands of a treasurer with a criminal history of accounting fraud.

It sounds like this warrants an investigation of the politician too and of the all of the arrangements, dealings and workings between the StuyTown Tenant Association Treasurer Sheehy and the politician Dan Garodnick.

How come Sheehy arranged for a meeting between the politician Dan Garodnick, property servicer Andrew MacArthur and Blackstone in October 2014 instead of arranging for a meeting between the StuyTown Tenant Association advisors Moelis and Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison?

It would be more logical for the StuyTown Tenant Association Treasurer Sheehy to arrange for a meeting with the Stuy Town Tenant Association advisors and not with the local city council politician because what was the local politician delivering or bringing to the table in October 2014? It implies or solidly demonstrates that the local politician has a bigger role in delivering the property to a buyer then a politician of that low rank would ordinarily have.

The October 2014 meeting was a catalyst that according to the underlying message from Sheehy initiated a chain of events that resulted in the Blackstone deal.

An investigation into the 2014 meeting with the low level politician, Blackstone and StuyTown Tenant Association Treasurer Sheehy October and the chain of events that followed the October 2014 meeting is warranted.

Especially now that the press reported the deal struck by the higher level politicians is inflated in housing numbers and tenants are experiencing questionable - illegal leasing practices with questionable - illegal housing practices.

The Town & village article raises a lot of troubling concerns. The one that stands out the most is the relationship between the politician Dan Garodnick and the StuyTown Tenant Association Treasurer Sheehy, the October 2014 meeting and what actions by the politician and StuyTown Tenant Association Treasurer Sheehy followed from there.

The way I see it, and I could be wrong, is that the TA board is disorganized or at least that conflicting and sometimes confusing voices are heard. Knowing what I know about organizations the "records" can be messy.

Lawyer Sheehy fired for "OVERCHARGING" those he is sworn to protect

Lawyer Sheehy on a TA Board that negotiated with Andrew MacArthur for market rate new stabilizers to pay less than fair share for MCI while under market rate rent stabilized tenants pay more than their fair share = definition "OVERCHARGING"

Councilman and lawyer Garodnick has clandestine meeting with "OVERCHARGING" lawyer Sheehy, Blackstone, Andrew MacArthur October 2014

OVERCHARGING AND TOTAL LACK OF TENANT PROTECTION IN STUYTOWN DURING 2013 MCI NEGOTIATIONS TO PRESENT DAY WITH TENANTS STILL PAYING UNFAIR SHARE OF MCI CHARGES AND MARKET RATE APARTMENTS HOUSING STUDENTS IN MONEY MAKING ENTERPRISES.

Looks like the prior comments asking "WHAT ABOUT THE OVERCHARGES" just got one of its answers.

@10:54 AM, what you describe sounds utterly illegal. If you are correct in your assertion concerning the MR "new stabilizers" not paying their share, while the real rent stabilized tenants pick up the difference, then there should be an investigation into the "deal" that was made between Sheehy, TA Board, McArthur and Garodnick. What right does a stinky little councilman and a TA board have to interfere with the rent laws as they stand? They can advocate for change, but they don't have the right to actually make arbitrary changes! Something very fish about all this. I know the MR people (and I know they are "technically" RS temporarily) pay exorbitant rents, but that's their fault for agreeing to pay those rents. I really have no sympathy for them because they have blighted the lives of the long-term tenants with their presence. Nobody held a gun to anybody's head to sign a lease for a ridiculously inflated rent.

I hope that some legal eagles can be brought onboard to delve into this dubious deal and make things right. No wonder the TA won't open its books! And no wonder they haven't won a significant MCI battle in years! Actually, even when they were a real TA, the MCI battles they fought were for pennies!

We would be better off without the TA because it does NOTHING to help us, but A LOT to hurt us.

Now we see Farrely for who he really is and how he really feels about tenants, about indefensible unethical acts by lawyers being a-ok, about indefensible accounting frauds by lawyers being a-ok. Farelly's comment in Town & Village helps in explaining the secrecy of the Tenant Association accounting books.

Anyone else on the Tenant Association board want to make a comment and defend the indefensible Farelly and Sheehy? You got our attention, we are listening.

Banks and De Blasio are using cheap shot photos in the press to make it look like they are addressing the homelessness problems but the numbers say otherwise. Landlords are getting big buck from this administration in housing arrangements that are failing. Banks and De Blasio are failing big but hey, De Blasio got a photo out of it to promote himself. A look into the housing deal here in StuyTown may be in order.

John Sheehy never should have been allowed to continue practicing law or been the Treasurer of any organization, especially one where he is given any kind of power over the lives of 30,000 people. John Sheehy is actually proud of putting his entire community in the hands of one of the world's most notorious landowners. It is remarkable and disgusting that he admits making the Blackstone deal or the October 2014 Garodnick meeting. Where are the records of the Tenant Association meeting minutes on this October 2014 meeting with the city council? Maybe it has something to do with Dan Garodnick and the city council funneling hundreds of thousands to the Simon Weisenthal Center NYPD then Dan Garodnick abruptly stopping the funneling of any money once the DEBlasio Rechnitz Reichberg scandal broke the same time period of John Sheehy's "making of the Blackstone deal"

Anonymous said...

We would be better off without the MR ???????what? What??? Who will pay for the property then? Certainly not you or me!!!

Anonymous said...

The Chair of the Tenant Association Kevin Farelly said in the Town & Village that the truth being told to tenants about John Sheehy, the Treasurer of the Tenant Association is "unwarranted" while John Sheehy is saying he and Dan Garodnick made the Blackstone deal happen beginning with a meeting in October of 2014. There is nothing in any communication to tenants about that meeting happening, what was discussed, what decisions were made, or anything. We do know a lot of bad things happened during 2014, 2015 to the property and to the community.

Farrelly has been as quiet as can be since he posted his T&V attack on tenants questioning Sheehy. I can say with pretty much 100% certainty at this point that they are all corrupt and doing illegal things that they don’t want us knowing about.

Karma will come back to haunt each and every one of them at some point, because unfortunately I don’t believe that our legal system will. Morality and ethics is obviously something that none of these people have a shred of, and I hope they all rot in hell.

Next time I see Susan or any of the TA board on the property I will be directly asking them these questions. It will probably only be Susan though, since the others have $5million Hamptons homes that they spend most of their time at.

That was the topic that this thread started with, but it has meandered to so many other topics! Not that I'm complaining. However, it seems that the two suicides have been pretty much forgotten. I would like to know a few more details. What was with the guy with the sulfuric acid? How did he get it and keep it in his apartment until he was ready to use it to kill himself. Was anybody else injured by this act? What was the reason for the elderly lady killing herself? Was she ill or depressed or had something terrible just happened in her life. Obviously, there was a reason. If she was a longtime tenant, she had lived here for many years before feeling compelled to end her life. The elderly people here may well feel alienated and lonely because the way of life they lived and enjoyed for some many years has been torn away from them and their friends and neighbors have probably died off and they are surrounded by transients and students and a demo that may or may not treat them with respect and consideration. To add to that sad situation, they have Management breathing down their necks waiting for them to die or give Management some reason to declare them unfit to live here and in need to go into the care of Adult Protection. Tishman Speyer harassed a lot of elderly tenants in that manner. There's a special place in hell for the vultures who have been hovering over our elderly population for the past several years.

I hadn't heard anything about the Weisenthal scandal. What is it?

As for PS and the lack of enforcement, I believe that word is getting around far and wide about what a out-of-control dorm/airbnb/transient shithole this now is. I have friends in Queens who tell me that Management advertises in their local newspapers - full-page ads - but people have already heard about the place and know it is a must-to-avoid. I don't know how parents can rest easy with their student offspring living here when there is virtually no Security and crime is more prevalent now, regardless of how much Management tries to hide that fact. There is a definite air of desperation to Management's constant advertising, but they should know by now that if you want to find a fool in New York City, you have to bring one with you.

T&V is most definitely controlled by Management at this point. There was a time when Sabina was objective and trustworthy. Not now. She has completely succumbed to Management's control. I'm surprised that the paper is still in print because at $1 per issue it really is not worth the money. Probably, the only value it has to people who are not interested in the ads for handy men, window washers, etc. Everything else they print is strictly from Management's and the TA's perspective.

Of course the Tenant Association Board knows about all the Airbnb, sublets, and dorms. Their law firm Paul Weiss is also the law firm for Airbnb and defended Airbnb since 2013. Paul Weiss and the Tenant Association are pro Airbnb. A survey of the lease owners on the Airbnb apartments will expose that. They are all Tenant Association Brookfield members who failed to get individual ownership of the apartments and are now part of the bulk leasing programs to the dorms, to the Airbnbs, to the sublets. Investigate the leasing practices and it will show the Tenant Association Broad for who they really are a la John Sheehy.

The reason we have so many infestations of bed bugs is mainly because of the AirbnB and transient population. We didn't have bed bugs here until this place became a transient dorm dump. The TA took down its registry of bed bug infestations and I suspect that was at the behest of Management. A lot of shit goes down here that Management doesn't want publicized. It's going to get worse now that PS doesn't have its little patrol cars because you know they are not going to get on their Segways if the weather is bad! The only good side to that is that with the Segways they can get into places that they wouldn't go to if it involved walking. We know they stopped walking years ago.

NYC HPD under the new Commissioner is covering up the StuyTown mortgage deals that should be investigated. Especially the mortgage taken out by developer Shaoul and investor Wilbur Ross in the 298 dorms which include StuyTown leases and the number of those StuyTown leases that are tenant association members that were part of the JP Morgan Brookfield Tishman scam too. The new commissioner was formerly part of the so called economic development corp that develops economies for the wealthy to get richer using displacement tactics.

"Every time I see Susan Steinberg and ask her about this she averts my eyes and scurries away like a rodent blinded by the light...hmmm."

That is not surprising. What can happen by the remaining under-market-value rent stabilized tenants is a class action lawsuit against her and her fellow board members, DeBlasio, Glen, HDP, City Council, NYC who are desperately scurrying now to make themselves look like tenant advocates after getting caught failing the largest segment of their constituency, NYC renters. But it is probably advisable to avoid the nonprofit probono lawyers who have failed too like Garodnick pals at "Urban Justice", Tishman and Blackrock law firm Skadden Arps associated "MFY", and avoid like the plague "The Legal Aid Society" who in 20 years failed to ever bring a landlord harassment action or get laws passed to protect tenants from landlord harassment under Steve Banks whose sole goal was to make the near bankrupt Legal Aid Society profitable. He made it profitable while never once holding a landlord to task and his wife is a housing court judge while this community was decimated.

I am currently reading the biography of William "Boss" Tweed. To get back to the headline of this post. Three suicides is a disturbing number in three months time. That’s how today’s Wall Street Journal (subscription required) describes Elon

Elon Musk wheels and deals to save Cuomo

It’s easy to see why Barbara Walters named billionaire Elon Musk one of
2014’s most fascinating people.

In the waning days of his 2014 reelection campaign, Gov. Andrew
Cuomo turned to Musk to bail him out of a $1 billion economic

take Cuomo’s political ambitions with it.

Cuomo had already done Musk a favor, successfully working with the

Cuomo’s dad, former Gov. Mario Cuomo, helped Tesla’s lobbying efforts

That news did more than support Cuomo’s claim that he would make New York business

And It did more than make Cuomo look technologically savvy. It rescued Cuomo from a highprofile disaster that began when he promised Buffalo voters — who had voted overwhelmingly for his opponent in the 2010 election — that he could singlehandedly halt their city’s decline.

Exactly right. They had to make that video last December to make things "look" good but the 3 suicides speak truth. The video is a big lie.

Saw a non-resident dog walker with 5 dogs and another non-resident with 2 dogs within a space of 5 minutes today. Of course, Mary a PS officer in sight. Come to think of it I see fewer and fewer Officers on the property lately. Very scarce presence.

THE REAL BILL DEBLASIO A LIAR AND A SELL OUT

TWO OF THE DONORS ARE ALREADY INDICTED AS CRIMINALS

AT LEAST THREE MORE BIG DONORS ON THIS LIST ARE SURE TO FOLLOW WITH ONE ALREADY HAVING BEEN UNDER FEDERAL INVESTIGATION AND THE TWO OTHERS SURE TO FOLLOW SOON GIVEN THE CRIMES BY THEIR ORGANIZATIONS FELLOW BOARD MEMBER

Records show that VIP tickets to five major events in the city from 2014 to 2016 mostly went to financial donors of the mayor’s political causes and campaigns and corporate donors, not average joes.

Two major campaign contributors later indicted on corruption charges were among the privileged guests.

The perks included: a special seating area in Central Park during Pope Francis’ 2015 visit; prime seats at the US women’s soccer team’s World Cup victory celebration at City Hall that same year; and the viewing stand at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parades from 2014 to 2016.

Among the repeat beneficiaries was Gina Argento, CEO of Broadway Stages, who gave $60,000 to the mayor’s Campaign for One New York (CONY) political nonprofit.

She was invited to the Thanksgiving parades in 2014 and 2015 as well as the World Cup shindig, but was dropped from the list in 2016 when her donations came under scrutiny as part of a federal probe into the mayor’s fundraising.

The shortest of the invite lists was for the VIP area during the pope’s visit, which mostly went to agency heads and a handful of corporate donor reps.

Yet trash-bag peddler Joe Dussich, who gave $100,000 to the mayor’s nonprofit, was among the 18 non-city workers invited to the roped-off area.

That donation preceded Dussich landing a $6 million contract with the city for his Mint-X rodent-repellent trash bags, which also came under federal scrutiny.

Other major CONY donors offered tickets were Jonathan and Daisy Soros, the son and sister-in-law of Democratic billionaire George Soros, after a Soros family foundation donated $500,000.

“Until we have a full system of publicly financed elections, politicians will continue the widespread practice of rewarding their donors with special treatment,” Susan Lerner, executive director of Common Cause/NY, said when asked about the red-carpet rollouts.

Other prominent campaign donors and bundlers rewarded with invites were lawyer Jay Eisenhofer — who was excluded only from the pope event — and lobbyists Michael Woloz and Harold Ickes, who were offered tickets to the 2015 and 2016 Thanksgiving parades and the World Cup celebration.

Jeweler Jona Rechnitz and restaurateur Harendra Singh also got perks before they pleaded guilty to felony bribery charges.

Singh was one of 58 people offered choice seats for the 2014 Thanksgiving parade, and both were among the 243 offered seats for the World Cup celebration.

Gubernatorial hopeful Cynthia Nixon, a fervent campaign supporter of de Blasio, was invited to four of the five events — missing out only on the pope’s visit.

My recent experience is that I see a lot of PS officers walking around. A lot. However, I have yet to see a PS officer escort a non-resident dog-walker off the property or even talk to him. I just passed by a couple of non-resident dog walkers at the Oval, and though a PS officer was there, he didn't say a work once he passed by the non-resident dog-walker. PS should be on notice, as well as Management, that this "escorting off the property" is still not happening and is ignored.

As someone posted a few days ago, they emailed the TA through their website to request documents (minutes and financials). I have done the same, and have not gotten so much as a courtesy response that they will look into it.

These people are criminals, every last one of them. I have no doubt in my mind anymore. Why else would they continue to ignore. We need to get a lawyer to subpoena them for their records.
