Summer Madness

Now I know where the expression comes from.

I don't live at the Oval, but going outside, I see that when the weather is good and the people are out (and there are more and more people, thousands more in this community), the place can get too much, even for me.  I see infractions constantly, like a bicycle being ridden around the Oval and a PS officer looking right at it/him and not a word was said. I guess he didn't want to be bothered.

And there is garbage all over the place, including my building. That no one cares seems at times to be an understatement.

I passed by Oval Cafe. The guy playing (at a microphone, no less) must have driven people away, judging by the music he was playing and "singing."

In case the above is hard to read, know that Management really does want a circus, and almost every day you will get an "event." Blackstone must be so proud.

Update 6/3/2018: I'm looking at the above photo and looking. Is this photoshopped? A fake?

Update to update:Yes, A FAKE! Not to say that "creatively" removing this, adding that was not done, but the photo is not a vision of things as "is," but a FAKE.

What's that expression? Jumping the shark? I believe dear Rick and Blackstone have jumped the shark on this one, though I think the shark has been jumped some time ago. But, there are people who enjoy this circus stuff. And there are people who are slobs. People who don't mind this or that--"what's it to you?" That's what we have now. People who don't give a damn, as long as they get to do what they want.

Emails show Mayor wanted to keep secret his attendance at the REBNY gala in 2014, his first month in office. The circus is in town because the Mayor lied to us during his campaigning in Stuyvesant Town.

Yes. I want to fight this. Our leases guarantee us quiet enjoyment.

Blackstone nullifies the lease every time they blast noise into our homes for hours at a time.

A civil court case, a class action suit by many of us, to enjoin Blackstone's nullification of our lease.

I will write more when I'm not exhausted.

P.S.: Keith Powell's office today refused to schedule an appointment with him regarding the violation of many of his constituents' rights to quiet enjoyment of our homes. I was told that he's "busy" for the "next month" because "the budget is being planned."

So, at least from our new Garodnick replacement, we get no help here.

Do we have an attorney here to advise us?

I agree that there is a group that likes this crap(concerts and movies). It may be a minority, but it makes Rick and Blackstone look good. I also believe that people come in from outside. Actually who knows anymore what people belong here. They move in and out like flies.

Keith Powers will not help a tenant unless the democratic party gives him permission to do that. Powers is a party-first politician. Did you catch his pre-emptive Public Relations strike with deBlasio on the sexual harassment bill? The shit is going to hit the fan and there is no way those two can get ahead of it. They are neck deep in it.

Anonymous said...

Blackstone, Wilbur Ross and the North Fork Bank are all over the City Hall emails!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I give everyone a chance, including Powers. More than one chance, in fact. So far, I am not surprised by the reaction (or non-action) of the official people I've contacted. It seems these people are too busy or just bs-ing us. But we have to keep the process going. There is the "other side," which gets paid good money to respond to us the way they do. We don't get paid. If you factor in time and energy, we are losing money big time.

I have been thinking of a new TA, but attendance, interest and finances are always a problem, more so if one is starting out. My feeling is that a new TA is going to be hampered a lot. At least in the beginning. There was an attempt by the old TA to protest by the leasing office. The effort failed, even though attendance at that public school meeting of the TA and its members was high. (At the time.)

I still think the answer lies with the individual. And it takes work. We, as individuals, have an arduous process, and they (Management, etc.) know it, and rely on it.

So, yeah, keep the "process" going, do not give up, but know that you are facing obstacles, and that some of them are just the nature of the beast.

If anyone is interested in starting a new TA, I'm all for it. My blog is there for you. Financially, I can't give nowadays, but otherwise I am with you.

Anonymous said...

With everything being done on the web these days, all we need to start a new TA is a technological person who could create an online collaborative platform where people could go to get things going. Meeting in person wouldn’t even be necessary if people have access to an online community (TA).

The group moderator could easily verify residency with a copy of the front page of the leases. If anyone is an IT/programming guru, and wants to get this going, I’m in!

Anonymous said...

Keith Powers needs to make time for this community, otherwise he is a one and done councilman. He ran his campaign on his strong ties to this community, and vowed to fight for us.

If he is already turning his back on us because he’s “too busy,” then he’s nothing more than a phony. Those women that were running against him look like much better options, I just wish more people had voted for them.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

From my reading, Keith Powers is a hack and a political opportunist. I'm willing to give him a chance, as I said, but I'm not enthusiastic at all.

Atomic Man said...

Huge, reeking bags of garbage piled up in my building’s recycling area last evening. New tenants are buying 30 gallon trash cans, with bags that would never fit down the chute, and leaving them on the floor in the bike/locker/recycling room, stinking up the T level lobby. Lux living.

I am also willing to give Keith a chance. I was happy to get rid of Garodnick who became invisible the last couple of years of his term and helped engineer the Blackstone deal.

@ Stand Up and Fight

After reading what you had to say here, I posted it on the TA's FB page. I also told Keith Powers that if he didn't step up to the plate to help tenants here, he would be toast come the next election.

Keith Powers responded as follows:

"Hi Adam -

We are always available for a meeting. I am not sure that we have received the meeting request mentioned but you or anyone can call me at 212-818-0580 to set it up. Thanks - looking forward to speaking.

Enjoy your weekend.

Keith"

So, please contact his office again and let them know what Powers had to say. If you still can't get a meeting with Powers, let us know on this page or the TA's FB page. Let's see if he really is willing to help us take on Blackstone and their noisy and illegal use of this property. Blackstone's not implementing keycard only access or having to show proof of residency at the cafe before you can buy the items it's selling is a violation of the zoning law that applies to this property which states that entities such as the cafe are ONLY for the use of residents and their guests.

"P.S.: Keith Powell's office today refused to schedule an appointment with him regarding the violation of many of his constituents' rights to quiet enjoyment of our homes. I was told that he's "busy" for the "next month" because "the budget is being planned." "

Keith Powers is as corrupt as the day is long. He is a REBNY toe rag and doesn't give a damn about his constituents. He works for nobody but REBNY. He is a total jerk and part of the corrupt cabal at City Hall. I will never, ever vote for anyone from the current bunch of City Hall and City Council incumbents. They are all as corrupt as the bone and Powers is the weasel that he looks.

Good for you. Come Tuesday, I’ll see if the appointment with Powelll will be scheduled by his office.

Tonight ABC News reported that taxes on homes all over the country are suddenly being raised by as much as 50%. Just MAYBE this country is readying itself to organize and fight those who are impoverishing us and using economics to control, surveil, terrorize us and herd us into crowded cities, setting us against each other.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I applaud the actions taken to get Powers involved. I will say that I think, but do not know, that Five Stuy Cafe is losing money or that money is not being made as promised. I see that people are more interested in their computers and free Wifi than in buying much. I assume that "Coffeehouse Covers" is an attempt to generate more interest in the cafe. I wouldn't doubt that alcohol will be eventually served there. And, no, there is no sign about "For Residents and their Guests." My assumption is that with a little push, the sign will be there, but, though it will be promoted as a victory, it won't be that and will be ignored.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

If you factor in the produce trucks that come in to Stuy Town early on Sunday morning, there isn't much peace and quiet at the Oval, except on Saturdays and Mondays. Some event is going on all through the summer.

Of course, for peace and quiet you have to factor in other things, like the building that is going on outside Stuy Town, the subway extension, the noise of refurbished apartments and playgrounds inside Stuy Town, etc. Not much peace and quiet, for sure.

Anonymous said...

I have no desire to patronize the Oval Cafe. I bought a few items at various times over a year ago. The doughnut was inedible, the sandwich mediocre, and the ice cream overpriced. Another one of their crappy amenities.

Anonymous said...

Of course Powers is going to make himself available now, the eyes are on him. It’s a question of what he actually does to remedy this horrible situation. My guess is absolutely nothing... he will just make it seem like he cares by listening.

I haven't checked the Yelp comments on Five Stuy Cafe, but I just did now: 3 stars out of 42 reviews.

There are 3 reviews that I see this year: 1 star, 2 stars and then 5 stars.

One of the 2 stars comments: "RIDICULOUSLY overpriced food, and it doesn't taste all that spectacular! 13$ for a mediocre sandwich with undercooked meat and over grilled bread is absurd. Also while sitting inside the cafe one afternoon, a friend and I were on our computers and we were asked to move because only a certain table is reserved for electronics. There were barely 4 people in the cafe, and asking us to move was really unnecessary."

And am I right that one sign says no writing of negative reviews while in the cafe?!

Or was that taken down?

Yup, high-priced beer has to be coming up eventually.

https://nypost.com/2018/05/26/councilman-slams-de-blasio-for-trying-to-settle-nycha-probe/

And there you have it. The feds keep letting criminals get away with crimes in secret deals they make. Reminds of the deal deBlasio made January 2017 to get out of the federal probe into his illegal fundraising with Harendra Singh when Harendra Singh admitted to it and deBlasio got away with it after making a secret deal with the feds. How many dangerous crimes are they going to let deBlasio get away with? Finally someone calls it as it is. A dangerous criminal is running City Hall.

Councilman slams de Blasio for trying to settle NYCHA probe

A Democratic lawmaker slammed Mayor de Blasio for “dangerously” engaging in secretive talks to settle a longtime federal investigation into the city’s embattled Housing Authority.

NYCHA is working to resolve the two-year probe by agreeing to more judicial oversight under a consent decree – and Bronx Councilman Ritchie Torres wonders if this is because the de Blasio administration is trying to hide “damaging” details about its failures or even avoid criminal prosecution.

Immediately after taking office our corrupt NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, elected after specifically promising to protect PCVST residents against ongoing assault from major REBNY/Wall Street predators, is caught on email messages with his P.R. Lobbyists plotting to sneak himself into a major REBNY event to formally proclaim to any and all major REBNY/Wall Street predators that our new NYC Mayor was corrupt and his NYC Mayor's Office was for sale.
-----
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/de-blasio-releases-emails-city-hall-berlinrosen-article-1.4007413

"The 4,245 pages of emails make clear that from his arrival at City Hall, de Blasio and his team constantly sought ways to manipulate the press and polish the mayor's image.

In a Jan. 16, 2014, email to press office staff, de Blasio spokeswoman Marti Adams reveals a plan to sneak the self-proclaimed progressive mayor into an event with the Real Estate Board of New York.

Under the subject line "Let's minimize press activity at REBNY," Adams writes, "He has private entrance and will skip reporters on the way in and REBNY has said they're going to limit access to the VIP reception."
-----
In exchange for MILLIONS OF DOLLARS our newly elected, lying, greedy, "phony progressive" NYC Mayor was eager and happy to betray millions of his NYC constituents enabling major REBNY/Wall Street predators bankrolling him to rake in BILLIONS OF DOLLARS destroying longstanding working class and middle class residential communities undergoing REBNY/Wall Street predatory siege throughout NYC.

Why isn't this corrupt NYC Mayor convicted in prison sharing a cell with Garodnick?

STR, could it be that you are remembering the time when one of the buildings was seriously damaged because some mentally ill guy tried to kill himself with the gas oven? A couple of buildings were without gas for a while and management was feeding them with food from local restaurants.

Anonymous said...

Management needs to crack down on the Airbnb crowd, I don't want them in my building and in my laundry. They bring bed bugs with them (some of them) and we have no idea who they are. Could be fucking terrorists.

Warning to "hosts" - if I ever find out who you are, i will go to every length it takes to out you and will notify the IRS. Everybody's info can be obtained online for a fee. If you are doing it out of a real RS apartment, be prepared to lose it and pay a hefty fine for violating the RS laws. That fine doesn't come from the LL (who will be glad to turf you out), but from City.

Management (for want of a better word) clearly allows AirbnB and has no problem with it whatsoever. They allow it to be advertised here (so long as it's not a lower rent apartment occupied by one of those cursed old folk). Blackstone sinks claws into every pie

https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2015/07/24/airbnb-blackstone-cfo-google/30621665/

NEW YORK — Yet another financial executive is ditching "the street" for sunny Silicon Valley.

Hedge fund and private equity giant Blackstone said its CFO, Laurence Tosi, is resigning to work for San Francisco start-up Airbnb.

Tosi has been Blackstone's CFO since 2008, shortly after firm, which manages $333 billion in assets, started selling its shares to the public.

https://www.recode.net/2018/2/1/16960686/airbnb-cfo-tosi-belinda-johnson-coo-brian-chesky

Laurence Tosi, a Wall Street veteran who had held the CFO role since 2015, is departing the company “to dedicate his full time and energy to his investment fund, Weston Capital Partners.”

According to a recent report in The Information, Tosi and CEO Brian Chesky had clashed over “how to balance the financial stability needed to go public with Mr. Chesky’s desire to transform Airbnb into a more diversified travel firm, investing in areas that might not yield profits for awhile.”

What totally pisses me off about Blackstone's negligence in lowering the flag out of respect for the fallen servicemen and women is the fact that if the brave Americans and Allied Forces of WWII had not fought against Hitler and liberated as many people as they could from the death camps, it is quite possible that some of our overlords would never have seen the light of day and neither would their parents and grandparents.
You probably won't print my viewpoint, STR, but without any prejudice I can truthfully say that many people who are forgetting history and the real sacrifice of veterans of the USA and the forces of decency, would have never made it to these shores, notwithstanding all the obstacles they faced by an uncaring FDR and other anti-semites. The Allied Forces defeated Hitler and changed the course of history and the many, many young men and women died for the sake of defeating Hitler and, along with our brave men and women who perished in Korea and Vietnam and the Bush Wars, let us at least fly the flag at half staff and show some damned respect! Many of us would not be here if not for the reason for Memorial Day, myself included.

Wait until something bad happens to the cheerleaders at the hands of an unvetted AirBnB guest, they will be screaming bloody murder.

All these idiots need to do is actually look on the AirBnB website, I count more than 25 active listings on the property. Say you average 2 guests per weekend in each of those units, that’s 50 unknown guests a week, 200 a month, and 2400 a year. So I’d say people have every damn right to be concerned about all these unknown people walking around.

A normal tenant goes through the whole background check to make sure they aren’t a criminal, sexual predator, etc. AirBnB does not, so just remember that when you (cheerleaders) attack people who are concerned about the obvious AirBnB’ers. As a parent it concerns me greatly.

The only way the AirBnB illegal hotels will stop is to draw attention to them on Twitter, hitting these deals where their audience is. Tweet each ad with the #StuyTown #AirBnB and #IllegalHotel hashtags and with enough consistent bad publicity it will affect their business. Young renters, and probably most renters, will not sift through the rambling, cut and paste diatribes on here when making a decision to rent. They'll pay attention on Twitter as will AirBnb.

Clearly, "Security" has been drilled on this and instructed to tell any disgruntled rent-payer, "It is their property and they can do what they want [to you]."

2. The same Security Guard, in response to my question as to whether they were "carding" participants and thus restricting entrance to bona fide tenants, responded that they were NOT doing so since "no one" outside of this marvelous community knows about it.

3. Fred Knapp, General Legal Counsel, the man who evicts, evicted and attempts to evict, residents from their home, stood with the "Lifestyle Manager" of this increasingly miserable place: Robert Vasquez (I think this is the correct spelling), who squeezed my hand firmly and held it a long time when we shook hands and he beamed at me. They both enthused over "how happy" people are at this Family Picnic and how they are "creating a community in New York City."

When I continued to register extreme anguish and anger over this travesty, Mr. Vasquez attempts to comfort me by encouraging me to look at the good side of it. He explained that since these occurrences take place at set hours and I "KNOW" "WHAT TIME" THEY ARE HAPPENING, I CAN "PLAN FOR THEM."

"Plan for them?" I queried. How? Leave my home? Vasquez' response? "You can plan other activities during those hours." He might have mentioned TV. Vasquez and Knapp both urged me to use those hours to "come out and sit on a bench and enjoy this."

Some years back, some self-important little twit in Resident Services told me she'd call before each event so I could know when to make sure to leave my home! This was the same crap from the 43 year old "Stuytown Lifestyle Manager."

4. Some woman was playing and/or teaching a group of young children a game between the Oval and Playground 12. This significantly restricted room to walk; at the same time, a couple was encouraging their young son to throw a ball which narrowly missed me. They smiled at me when I turned to respond to nearly being hit. Less than 2 minutes later, a man on a bike in that overcrowded and dangerous area, right near the "Café" missed me by inches.

THIS IS WHAT WE ARE DEALING WITH!

WILL YOU STAND UP AND FIGHT?

AGAIN, A MEETING WILL BE HELD WITH KEITH POWERS, NEW COUNCILMAN. I'LL LIST DETAILS HERE. JOIN WITH ME.

"Once again you have the cheerleaders coming to the TA Facebook page and complaining about residents seeing a lot of suitcases on the property. Please don't try that BS here. Obviously, AirBnb is in this complex, and Management is taking its sweet time trying to clean this up."

STR, Management is not taking its sweet time trying to clean this up. Management is doing absolutely NOTHING to clean it up. Remember, Blackstone has a vested interest in AirbnB. Management has no interest whatsoever in the safety and quality of life of tenants who are trying to live here quietly and peacefully and who obey the House Rules, as Rick the Dick calls them. Management wants to make those people's lives as miserable as possible in order to churn the apartments.

Too Many Programmed Activities in a Once Quiet Oasis said...

I wish to attend the meeting.

Anonymous said...

You have to wonder about those nasty harpies on the TA site. It is incredulous to think that management would be supporting them in their attacks, but they appear to have a group mentality and approach. The worst kind of web trolls. Ignorant, disgustingly politically correct, and judging by the comments of a couple of them, slobs who don’t care about their apartments.

Anonymous said...

Find it hard to believe that posters on the TA sure would brag about letting visitors college kids use laundry facilities and leaving guests to come in on their own. Just the sort of crap that undermines the safety and cleanliness of the property.

Anonymous said...

Why doesn’t management see the Airbnb advertisements? My guess is that they choose to ignore them . Rent these apartments in this dump any way you can

Anonymous said...

The worst cheerleader of them all - the male cheerleader - is on the TA page saying to Keith Powers that this complaint of noise is a farce and that only a small minority dislike the oval events.

HEY GUY - DO YOU WANT MY OVAL APARTMENT??? I will not be able to
Enjoy my apartment in the evening for the next 3 months. Who wants to enjoy a nice quiet dinner after a long days work?? Maybe watch some TV and actually be able to hear it??

You sir, mr male cheerleader, are an idiot. I enjoy those things, and for $5000/month, I am entitled to them. And it’s not about the rent -someone paying $1000/month is entitled to those same things.

Oh, and one final thing mr male cheerleader, my lawyer disagrees with what you have to say. He’s filing suit this week to start ending this shit for the thousands of residents affected. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

"it is their (Blackstone) property and they can do this,"

I know this a very, very common response, but it is not true. There are laws--city, state, federal that must be followed. Now, some reps of Blackstone may think that Blackstone rules, but with the right opposition to a rule that's been ignored or violated, it is not true.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Regarding the concerts.... From the TA Facebook page from a commentator: "Most residents love them!!!" Really? Most residents? There are over 25 thousand residents of this complex. How many are at the concerts?

Anonymous said...

I am guessing that there is a fair share of outsiders at these concerts and movies. Don’t know who would want to sit in the heat and humidity to see old movies and hear crappy music.

Anonymous said...

Now the ridiculous male cheerleader is talking about this place being more vibrant than 20 years ago. My question - why would there have been a 25 year wait list to get in to this place if it wasn’t considered vibrant? Would that many people want to move into a sterile community??

I think you have things backwards sir. 20 years ago this was a vibrant COMMUNITY enjoyed by most (not you obviously). Now it is sterile and resort like and enjoyed by few (you obviously).

Anonymous said...

As regards family fun night, it is indeed a nuisance but at least there was no music coming into my apartment, I expected that.

Anonymous said...

Wondering how many people actually showed up at that family picnic crap. Should be called family vermin night. Eating on the property encourages vermin. This isn’t a public picnic ground.

Anonymous said...

They don’t card at these events because they want to make it seem like the attendance is high. They know that outsiders will attend.

Anonymous said...

The cheerleaders are not saying that there is no AirB&B. They're asking the OP not to be so racist in her assumptions.

Anonymous said...

How many are at the concerts? A few hundred, at best. And how many people are assaulted in their homes by the noise from the Oval events? Way more than that.

Anyone ever heard the saying, “Your rights end where mine begin”? Blackstone doesn’t have the right to ASSAULT AND HARRASS PEOPLE IN THEIR HOMES with the noise that their Oval events create. Their right to do whatever they feel like on this property ends where their tenants’ right to the quiet enjoyment of their homes begins. It’s that simple.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

?The cheerleaders are not saying that there is no AirB&B. They're asking the OP not to be so racist in her assumptions.<<

Just to you know, I am not a fan of the "racist" charge. It is used far, far too often.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The fact stands that AirBnb is a serious issue all across the city, and here. I have seen many times, and now more than ever, people with suitcases wondering where to go and looking at their smart phones. They don't seem like family members. I don't think that Management is doing enough, but, admittedly, it can be hard to get rid of a tenant because of AirBnb. I would assume that anyone caught is given a chance to get rid of their posting, etc.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

And... with rents being so high, I am not against some people "making ends meet." I would say lower the rents (yeah, I know we are all rent stabilized), but Management wants the rents high for when they can send a bill. BUT there are people who are making a business out of AirBnb, on purpose, and that is wrong.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

What I am also against is seeing many bare floors or close to bare floors at these AirBnb and Classifieds listings. Many. My "rule" doesn't have to be exact, but at least try to cover a good amount of space. I don't know who is working for Management, but these bare floors are so out there on the internet, that it is not a mystery.

Anonymous said...

They distorted the posters words intentionally besides adding their own. Before they call people racists they need to understand what they are talking about. They had no grounds for that despicable name calling and either have a personal or management agenda.

Anonymous said...

STR, you said that you would not publish a comment from one of the namecaller cheerleaders. You did publish one and she continued with her false accusations. That is too bad. These are haters, not even cheerleaders and fortunately they were called out for their false accusations. Very disappointed that you chose to publish the comment.

8:01 AM, the male cheerleader is a nasty asshole who only ever posts on the TA FB when he wants to berate and belittle the views of other posters. He is a troll of the worst kind and I believe he lives nowhere near the Oval. He describes the property of years ago as sterile. Not so. It was very, very fertile! Fertile with plants, trees, babies and kids enjoying themselves in the playgrounds, happy to have swings, monkey bars and slides and, for the older ones, playgrounds where they could play ball and hockey. Todays little snowflakes and their helicopter moms require total construction of play (of course their kids will grow up with no imaginations), locked gates and will throw a fit if a squirrel or smoker gets within 50 feet of them. Nauseating! We used to have a Recreation Dept. that did a pretty good job of keeping an eye on the kids.

If there's any sterility around here, it is the imaginations of the people who want this property to be a dry-land Carnival Cruise. Rick would probably be happy working on a Carnival Cruise ship. About his level.

"The cheerleaders are not saying that there is no AirB&B. They're asking the OP not to be so racist in her assumptions."

The OP is far from racist. The cheerleaders are the ones who are biased. When PC is taken to ridiculous extremes, it is to cover up and deny the racism that is the heart of the PC fiend. Thou dost protesteth too much, cheerleaders. Some of us are far from impressed by your shrill ranting.

There are a bunch girls subletting (their own words) an apartment near me and they have never even heard of the rug policy. Nice going Blackshit. You really are on the ball. Not!

As for Blackshit going after Airbnb, they will turn a blind eye UNLESS it is a real rent stabilized tenant paying a "low" rent. Then they will pounce like the Gestapo.

Not true. There is plenty of outrage on the TA FB. Not all of us are signed up to post on that, but we can read it. I know who the male cheerleader is and I think he should shut up because he would look pretty ridiculous dancing with pom poms as cheerleaders usually do.

The lock on gate of oval astro turf bangs every two seconds from 3pm until after 8pm bc kids use it as makeshift goal. It is very unpleasant. Maybe interior gates can be painted for parameter of a goal and ball doesn’t have to be aimed at lock making piercing annoying sound over and over again hour by hour.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

LOL. Only Edmund was able to provide actual numbers for this "blast and a great sense of community" that today's movie viewing provided. A bit below the thousands that live here. No doubt the event was so popular that people had to be turned away.

Come on. "The Jungle Book"? Look, as many here, I was a parent of a "little one" too. And any event is a beacon to most kids. You don't even have to have an event. Just play time is good enough for kids.

What a farce. Management relies on these tenants that have a blast at someone else's discomfort.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Just a word of caution: I don't want to name certain private people even if they name themselves on the TA Facebook. I welcome anyone, in fact, though many (all?) of the people that are cheerleaders refuse to come here and debate the issue with me.

They don't mention any of this in their glossy, photoshopped LYING advertisements. Rick, you are one big con artist and you should be ashamed of yourself.

"I wanted to give residents advance notice of postings that will appear on the M and T/Lower Level bulletin boards regarding the start of conEdison’s Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) remediation project. The project will consist of conEdison drilling sixteen 12" wide wells (10 in PCV, 6 in ST) over the course of 4 weeks* beginning the week of June 18*.

Little has changed since the public meeting held in November other than conEdison and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation are now ready to begin the drilling of the wells. For those wishing to review the project, click here for the Fact Sheet created by the DEC.

As the project is upon us, conEdison, the DEC, and the NYS Department of Health will be on hand June 7, from 6– 8pm to answer any questions. This informational session will be held in the Election Room found at 451 E14th street (on the 1st Ave Loop), entry from the Terrace Level.

In summary, each well will take approximately 2 days to be set using a drilling rig. Two portable rigs will move throughout the two communities until completed. Each building that will have a well dug in its vicinity will receive a text at least a day in advance. conEdison will not begin before 9am and will end by 5pm, Monday – Friday. The rigs will be left on-site overnight such that the project can be expedited by reducing set up and breakdown time. A Public Safety Officer will assist with pedestrian traffic around the digging of each well site. Once completed, the visible result will be a circular top, flush with the ground, about 12” in diameter. The entire process is expected to take 4 weeks.

This project has been years in the making and we appreciate both conEdison’s and the NYS DEC’s complete cooperation in responding to our request to minimize disruption to residents.

Should you have any questions, we hope you can attend the last information session on June 7. If you cannot make that meeting and have questions, one can go to: conedison.com/mgp or call conEdison’s MGP hotline at 877.602.6633.

Lastly, this project is not exclusive to PCVST. Many MGP Remediation Plans have been successfully executed throughout the City, some next to schools, others next to residential communities. conEdison and the DEC have strict protocols digging the wells and our objective is to keep residents informed and to assist these agencies in efficiently and safely completing the project.

I pity the child/children of that Dan whatsisname because he is showing himself to be one lousy parent. He loves to needle people who are bothered by the noise from the movies. What's his problem? Can't he find something better to do. If he really has a kid (which I doubt) i hope that he/she doesn't grow up to be as much of a jackass as dear ole dad. Selfish, self-absorbed, narcissistic and sadistic. Perfect qualities for raising a kid.

I don't live near the Oval, thank God, and I can't post on the Tenants' Association Facebook because I am not a member of that scam organization (at least from what I've heard of it, it is a scam organization and I've never felt compelled to join it in the 6 years I've been here). I do read the posts on the Facebook sometimes because I have my own account. I am so disgusted at the posts of one of the young fathers who posts there. He sneers and snickers at the people who live on the Oval and are disturbed by that carnival stuff they put on every summer. He says he looks forward to needling the people whose peace is wrecked by that rubbish. How about a bit of compassion, Bozo? If you were a half-way decent father, you would not show your kids what disrespect and callousness you have towards your neighbors. You are disgusting and I feel very sorry for your kids because they have someone like you as a father. I hope their mother is a more decent human being.

THIS IS AN UPDATE FROM STAND UP AND FIGHT:

1. Keith Powers' office has contacted me. A TENTATIVE date of Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. has been scheduled for our meeting with Keith to discuss the noise/harassment to which we are being subjected. The address: 211 East 43rd Street (between Second and Third Avenue), Suite 1205.

Again: it is NOT a firm date. I expect to hear from him tomorrow, or by Friday, the latest, with definite confirmation of the date and meeting time. I WILL POST THE DEFINITE DETAILS ASAP.

2. I can be reached at the following email address: quietenjoymentnow@gmail.com. (That is one word derived from: QUIET ENJOYMENT NOW, to which we are entitled by law and otherwise). Please email me with questions, suggestions, facts, references, comments. This is WE and US as far as I am concerned. The more of US, the better.

3. Tonight I, along with many of you, was assailed by NOISE, NOISE, NOISE from the first "themed movie night." Quite horrific and shattering to be unable to speak face to face or on the phone because of sounds of shattering jungle roars followed by loud singing and talking (the "kiddies' movie" and the "adult movie" afterward). I observed a sparse turnout, "dining" on the grass (yes - vermin invitation!), and folks who seemed to be non-residents, along with children. I watched some of them walk into the complex.

4. To our neighbor/s already lawyered-up: I understand you are constrained from providing details to those not directly involved in your court case against our gracious and benevolent landlords and minions. It would, though, be helpful, if you could either join with us, or talk generally with me. I do not expect you to contact me. But it would be a goodness if you do!

Honestly, we don't know that and can't assume. I think parenting skills should be outside of the discussion, rather the issue of all these "events" that can bother residents near the Oval. Of course, Management doesn't think so, and will have "events" all summer long to attract someone. Blackstone considers that they are "thinking out of the box," but they are very much thinking inside it.

The events in the oval are meant to please one group and one group only - the tourists. Sure, other people take advantage of these “events,” but ultimately they are in place for the people that come here for short term stays.

How do I know it’s for the tourists? It’s quite simple - they don’t ask to see key cards at any of these things. If they were serious about reaidents and their guests, they would check key cards.

Anonymous said...

9:45 you are right on the money. These events are designed to promote this sty to short term residents. And there are definitely outsiders coming in. They like that because it boosts the attendance and justifies that people want the events.

Still there, over an hour. Maybe two or three, but I wasn't around then.

There are Blackstone workers and staff that pass by those turds. Supposedly there is the presence of PS, too. People who get paid a salary to do their job. But...no one cares.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

BTW, residents who live here and DO NOT get a salary from Blackstone, should not be helping people who do.... Blackstone, you wanted dogs here for a profit motive. Well, this is the result.

I live on the 14th Street Loop near Ave A and I could hear that shit on the Oval! I closed my windows. Noise pollution is probably at the worst level it has ever been. In fact, it didn't used to be such a problem except for car alarms and the occasional loud crowd with big radios walking through the property. (Remember those things the kids used to lug on their shoulders and they were so heavy their balls would be dropping off! LOL). These were nighttime annoyances that everybody in the City had to endure and PCVST was probably the least affected. Now we have nerve-shattering noise that is actually organized by Management to pimp he place. We really have sunk to a very low level when it comes to the QOL here. I'm glad I will be able to close my windows and blast the air conditioner on the hot nights when these shitty events take place - and hopefully we will have a lot of heavy rain on those evenings! They really are garbage gigs and have stolen what was unique about this place - it's peacefulness and bucolic atmosphere. Now it's like the projects with pop-up entertainment.

That’s not the way that I see it. They’re not trying to please tourists (Airbnb, short term guests), they’re trying to attract NEW RENTERS. All these events are about MARKETING to PROSPECTIVE, NEW TENANTS. They need to keep apartments filled and the rent roll going. We should all be posting on Yelp about this issue. That will give Blackstone something to think about and drive their marketing genius, Peter W., crazy, especially given that there are already a lot of complaints about noise on Yelp.

I came back recently from an "altercation" at the downstairs door with a female who wanted to be let in, but had no key card. This, after I read of property being stolen in various Peter Cooper Village buildings. I told the person to just contact Security. (Chances are that PS would have let her in regardless.) But this person didn't want to do that. Instead, I was the bad guy for not letting this person in according to her "thanks". One thing to do if you are trying to get in with no key card is keep your mouth shut when dealing with me. I am generally a nice guy, but this time I was pissed off at this place, where the rules are relaxed or ignored. I was not in a mood to be a nice guy.

I too had a similar incident. Some loud, raucous Airbnb'ers, rolling 3 huge wheelies were pounding on the door trying to get in. When they saw me, they banged even louder and demanded entry.
I replied politely, "Do you live here?"
"None of your business".
My response: "Call Security".
More pounding on their part.
My reply: "Take a hike, mother f*ckers, before I call the police".
The old Brooklyn Boy in me came out.
Do not play with me.
Of course according to the TA, Susan Steinberg, Rick Hydick and the various management plants and trolls, there is NO such problem in Pigstuy Town.
Just like their is no problem with the noise pollution from those abominable, abysmal "concerts" on the Oval. A true "amenity", eh?
NOT!

STR, your comment goes back to the whole issue at hand of short term rentals. This once “vibrant community” was exactly that, a community. How are people expected to stop outsiders from getting into buildings and playgrounds when you don’t know who your neighbors are?

Back in the day you knew everyone coming into the buildings and playgrounds, now it’s impossible. Slamming the door on someone you didn’t know didn’t seem so bad because you knew they didn’t live in the building. Now you slam the door on someone, and they could very easily live down the hall from you.

Piggybacking is a major concern, and I expect some people are going to lose some very expensive strollers before Rick and crew realizes they are once again just morons.

several thoughts:

PLEASE if you see Airbnb in your building, keep track of which floor they go to (if possible, which apartment) and REPORT THIS VIA 311.
It takes literally 30 seconds--go online and submit a report, or you can call their hotline if you prefer.
Even if the city doesn't investigate--we will get on record the vast quantity of Airbnb that Blackstone allows. Blackstone can be held liable for this if they don't take action.
Did everyone get that? If Airbnb is reported enough, the city can take action against them. Please get on record all the Airbnb that you see here.

Also--the security guards don't care about it. That fat balding guy who looks like a bowling ball--walked right past em today. I've also seen a security guard let in someone who was pounding on the door, an African American lady who was pounding on the lobby door. Security guard walked over and let her in, without a single word. I think he might have said you're welcome. All caught on security camera, I suppose, but I figure they have been told to do this.

Anonymous said...

--I also think we can see from security's response to people without keycards and Airbnb that they have been told anything goes. do whatever you want here. and why? because they cant fill these shitty gimcrack apartments. there's a high vacancy rate and I infer they are not making as much of a profit as they calculated that they need.

I know someone from management comes on here and says everythings great, no problem filling apartments, but there's always a ton of vacancies on their website and that's not all of them--if you look on other real estate sites, there are more vacancies, not listed on the pcvst site.

One small plea for civility: I have to say as an absent minded individual, I forget my card all the time and always appreciate being let in. I live here. just don't remember the card. I don't know that it really helps in any way to be a dick to people who don't have a card. they're gonna get in somehow--all they have to do is press that security button. security doesn't care.

Will try to attend. First positive step in a long time. So happy the concert was canceled tonight 😏

Hayduk and company need to stop worrying about their crappy events and start worrying about the sanitary conditions here. The area in front of my building is a garbage dump every evening , the garbage left to fester all night until morning pickup. Mattresses, chairs, all sorts of crap. This is disgusting.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

There's been more and more "bitching" via the TA Facebook page. This "bitching" is appropriate. Just so you know, I have also taken many photos. In fact, I am tired of taking photos, and, yes, emailing our boss some of them. I get the same answers, which are "nice", agree with me, and then--do nothing. There is a photo up on the TA Facebook page of certain residents or workers leaving things, like uncovered mattresses, on the loop to be picked up later. I see something like this almost every day. It doesn't just have to be mattresses. I've sent photos to the boss and the infractions still continue. Why even send emails to the boss? Maybe that's the prayer?

Almost every day, I see our nearby fire hydrant blocked with such garbage. This is clearly an infraction, yet, though I've sent photos, nothing is done. This is what this place is about. Nice top management (depending on one's viewpoint), and I understand their concerns, but nothing is done. Or very little. And always the same BS.

Rick is not an incompetent. He serves his bosses well and sanitation and QOL are not their priorities. Any other manager would be the same.

The notice about Tuesday's meeting with Councilman Powers is now at the front page.

While residents can talk about a variety of subjects, I would pay attention to the noise about the place and the intrusion, except a couple of days in the week, of "events," which disturb neighbors living at the Oval. While the response is to be expected ("Blackstone owns the property.") there is the quiet enjoyment of one's surroundings that is an issue. That said, I would also concentrate that no one official, including PS, is "escorting" dog owners who don't live here off the property. I have never seen this. Never. And I have lived here way before dogs were allowed in Stuy Town and PCV, legally.

I think a critical issue is who owns what and where? I spoke to a couple of ticket police officers, and each person said the property ends with the stores around the property. Ergo, no "carts" are allowed outside of this property that do no have license plates and are not obeying the city. I've contacted the city on this issue, and so far, months later, there has been no response. I will contact the city again.

My impression is that these "golf carts" cannot be outside of the property, and that includes them going across the street on 20th. They are not allowed to do that according to my knowledge.

There are other infractions that Management seems not too concerned about. One is the many mattresses that are discarded on the loops. Few, in any, are wrapped in plastic or any protective covering. This is illegal. And Management should know it, yet they and PS do nothing about it.

Blackstone and management are getting SLAUGHTERED in the comments section of the NY Times "Cruising for Renters" article. Couldn't happen to nicer people. Serves them right for the misery and suffering they have subjected us to. I hope this little stunt KILLS rentals here for them.

And isn't it curious that I, who can walk through sections of property in just a few minutes, see all this, but PS (which also has all those monitors we are paying for) and Management don't see it. The excuse that the property is just too large to check for everything is just an excuse and is, sorry to say, BS.

STR - The purpose of the meeting with Keith Powers is noise from the events on the Oval, not all the other things that you have mentioned. I don't think that the thousand other things that are wrong with this place should be brought up at the meeting. The focus should be on Oval events noise. Besides, SPS isn't technically obligated to remove outside dogs and their owners from the property and I doubt we would get far on that issue.

Great comment (all comments are neg so far-waiting for a "Cheerleader" appearance) at the NY Times re that NY Times "Cruising for Renters" article:

"Use of vehicles like this is illegal! If a vehicle serves no purpose other than advertising, its use in NYC is illegal. Of course no one cares, and the powerful perpetrator is gleeful. See Chapter 4 section (j)(1) of the Rules of the City of New York. Plus we don't need even more vehicles clogging our streets.
"(j) Commercial advertising vehicles.
(1) Restrictions. No person shall operate, stand, or park a vehicle on any street or roadway for the purpose of commercial advertising. Advertising notices relating to the business for which a vehicle is used may be put upon a motor vehicle when such vehicle is in use for normal delivery or business purposes, and not merely or mainly for the purpose of commercial advertising, provided that no portion of any such notice shall be reflectorized, illuminated, or animated, and provided that no such notice shall be put upon the top of the vehicle and that no special body or other object shall be put upon vehicles for commercial advertising purposes. Then I read wrong, and I will change. As for noise and just noise, I know what the answer will be. As for outside dogs, it is the rules of the property that they will be escorted out. Not my rules, not the city rules, not the state rules. So I think if these rules are rules from Management, "we" would get far.

As for these carts, these are state/city rules and Powers is a city councilman.

I just need confirmation of the focus on just noise.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Okay, I read and re-read the meeting info. The meeting seems to be just about noise, so that leaves me out and many other residents who don't live at the Oval.

Good luck, and the alert still stands until the meeting is over.

The New York Times comments are as good of a read as the article. The Boca Raton Resort & Club, a Blackstone property that Rick Hayduk managed before coming here. He is a Blackstone loyalist through and through. Don't be fooled by his chicanery. They really thought it would make people think StuyTown is "clever" which just goes to show they really believe New Yorkers and everyone other than them are stupid.

“We want people to see the truck and think, ‘A company that is going to do that, that’s clever, that’s not what I thought about StuyTown,’ ” said Mr. Vohs, who in 2013 hauled a truck-mounted billboard through the streets of Manhattan to promote the Boca Raton Resort & Club, a Blackstone property in Florida.

THIS IS STAND UP AND FIGHT WRITING:

The Tuesday (June 5th) meeting with Keith is ostensibly solely about noise/disturbance on the Oval. PLEASE READ ON:

1. This is the current and immediate flashpoint. It is most decidedly NOT the only issue. Much of what is written here on this blog and talked about among residents concerns issues which certainly need to be addressed. NOW, FINALLY, DECISIVELY. I truly cannot predict that ONLY Oval idiocy will be addressed on Tuesday. How our conversation with the good freshman Councilman goes will depend, in large part, upon who attends and how we frame our demands and concerns.

2. For my part, this one, first meeting with a local politician is the BEGINNING, and only THE BEGINNING of a much longer, deeper, and wider effort to take back our homes.

We are being preyed upon, having been invaded and seized by predators, imperialists, dictators. Their actions are illegal, immoral, repugnant and dangerous to life, limb, health and sanity of all of us. (I include all life forms in "us."). Think about the noise those living near "The Ice" are subjected to all winter. Think about the ever present danger we all face in the way of injury or death due to bikes, motorized bikes, scooters, motorized scooters, skateboards, motorized skate boards, and all of Blackstone's motorized vehicles on our sidewalks every time we walk out of our buildings.

I've been thinking today about all of the filth that comes into our homes daily through our windows. It long ago ceased to be just "New York City dirt." It became, some years back, the debris of apartment destruction ("renovations"). Whaddya think is in that dust? Anything toxic, perhaps? Carcinogenic? And I'm not even mentioning the vibrations, noise for weeks or months on end.

Not only are the foreign invaders rapacious, they are stupid as hell, to boot.

STAND UP and FIGHT means "TAKE BACK OUR HOMES" so that we go back to living in peace and security.

Unfortunately the article cannot kill rentals because the majority of their rentals now are through NYU,Airbnb, and other sleazy entities. They gave an endless supply of students and transients. It is great that the truth is getting out, even if it doesn’t ruin them.

Are you serious STR? Management doesn't enforce almost ANY of its rules. So why would they enforce this one? They don't have the manpower or the will to enforce the rules around her. Let's face it, it's basically a free for all.

I used to b proud to tell anyone who asked that I live in Stuyvesant Town. Now, unfortunately, unless I am pressed, I just say LES. I am ashamed and embarrassed by what Stuyvesant Town has become and I can't stand the looks and murmurings of sympathy if I do tell anyone where I live. Its infamy has spread far and wide. Only the out of town folk don't know what a shithole it has become and what malevolent shit owns and operates it. Go to Hell Blackstone and take that creepy "CEO" with you.

Anonymous said...

If more pressure is put upon Management to enforce their rules? Who knows?

And how, exactly, do you propose, STR, that one does that? Nothing, at least with respect to the dog situation, has worked so far to get them to consistently check for the identifying blue lanyard and to get them to boot dog owners who don’t live here off the property. As I said before, the truth is that they don’t have the manpower and they don’t have the will to do anything about either of these issues.

@ Stand Up and Fight

FYI - Peter Stuyvesant, the moderator of the TA’s FB page, is claiming that the meeting you have set up with Keith is only for you and is not open to other tenants.

He/she said this:

“The meeting with Keith Powers was made by one tenant for himself. It's not an open meeting for anyone who wants to attend.”

He’s what I said in reply to that:

“That is INCORRECT. Apparently, you didn’t notice that the tenant said “our meeting with Keith” and referenced “we” several times. He also said, “Please spread the word.” Do you really think that he didn’t tell Keith Powers that other people might be attending the meeting?

If the Tenants Association, which many people living here are paying members of, showed more interest in actually helping tenants, especially in such an egregious case as this, tenants wouldn’t have to resort, individually and collectively, to their own tactics for dealing with Blackstone’s abuse of the Oval and tenants living on or near the Oval.”

I then added:

“Any one who is interested in Tuesday’s noise meeting with Keith Powers and wants more information about it, can email the person who set the meeting up at: quietenjoymentnow@gmail.com”

Who is "Peter Stuyvesant" anyway? A TA conglomerate of higher-ups hiding behind one false name?

"Peter Stuyvesant's" opinion is wrong. Just read the message about the meeting. To suggest that it is a closed meeting is not only incorrect, but putting out false information--on purpose it would seem.

Anonymous said...

Peter Stuyvesant is obviously management . Can’t believe that they are trying to sabotage the meeting.

Anonymous said...

If people cannot attend the meeting with Keith, perhaps they can send him e-mails in which they give their support to the Oval noise issue. We need support.

Anonymous said...

If anyone needed further proof that “Peter Stuyvesant” does not have the best interest of the people that they “volunteer their time for,” then look no further than Peters post telling people not to go to the meeting with Powers.

They, like management, are afraid of an organized group of tenants with a voice. Susan, your days are numbered, so just go quietly.

THIS IS FROM STAND UP AND FIGHT:

Good Saturday Morning.

OF COURSE, THE KEITH POWERS TUESDAY 10:30 MEETING (211 EAST 43RD STREET, SUITE 1205, BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD AVENUES) IS FOR STUYVESANT TOWN AND PETER COOPER RESIDENTS!

This is US, not me. Hundreds, I think, are affected by the noise. Thousands of us (and birds, squirrels, trees, fish, et al.) are affected by the actions of Blackstone and their employees. And other greedy, disturbed human creatures.

THIS "PETER COOPER" ENTITY IS TO BE PITIED, WHETHER INDIVIDUAL OR COLLECTIVE. AND, IF COLLECTIVE, EACH AND ALL OF THEM ARE PRETTY SAD AND UNHAPPY FOLK.

I think that old saw is true: "Hurt people hurt people."

Kudos, thank you, and my deep appreciation to all of you who are responding to this call to stand up and reclaim our homes. It helps me feel less despairing as a Stuyvesant Town - Peter Cooper resident, and as a human being on this planet.

. . . and by the way . . . how does the individual or corporate "Peter Stuyvesant" (history paints the original as quite a nasty man, yes?!) divine my thoughts and intention and my sex (or gender, if you'd prefer)???

Have we any joyous, absorbing and tasteful EVENTS to run to on our poor Oval today? If so, may the rain and wind gods visit it with gusto!

Expect PS to shut down the thread, now that they’ve been called out for once again being a phony management shill.

Anonymous said...

I don’t think the TA is in cahoots with management, but I do think that they don’t have enough Board members who are willing to take management on. You have to remember that Blackstone has very deep pockets and can probably buy influence wherever they want or need to. Taking them on is no small or easy matter. That being said, they must be taken on when what they are doing is abusive to tenants and their rights.

Anonymous said...

Stand Up and Fight - good for you! You have done more for us in one week than the TA has in the past 5 years.

Now we get the chance to see if Powers will live up to the community man mantra that he campaigned on. I hope he does, and he should know that a lot of eyes will be on him and this meeting.

Rick should start getting worried. Stand Up is doing what the TA should have been doing all along, and Rick has kept the TA at bay. Sorry Rick, those days are done!

Wrong. It is not "great" he is "at least listening"

That is his job.

Listening to his constituents and delivering to them results. Just listening is not enough. He must deliver results. If he does not then he is the wrong person for the job.

Good God, we have got to start having a little self-esteem and value ourselves as worthy of our politicians delivering job results and stop being ok with them "at least listening". Demand what you deserve, an elected who delivers results to constituents. Do you think Blackstone or Ivanhoe Cambridge or any developer or REBNY would say it is great he is listening? Hell no. REBNY demands and gets results because REBNY has self-worth and self-esteem. How low is our self-esteem that we think it is ok or worse, we think it is great a politician is listening. That is their damn job and it is past time they start doing it.

Funny, at the 5/31/18 Yelp review (sort by most recent date), even their prized demo give’s SPS a one star:

“From the start -- even before the lease started -- to even after we've moved out, Stuytown has been insanely difficult and unresponsive.”

And it goes downhill from there.
