Fake

Perhaps new residents have no clue and the older residents have mercifully forgotten, but there was a time when the Christmas tree at the Oval was real, not the artificial one put up now. (And not what the previous admin had to the side, that straggly little tree which looks pathetic.)

The artificial tree is there to save money, period, much like the Smiley Face that covers the clock in Playground 12. Newer residents, who are paying a lot for the privilege of living here, can wow all they want, but the fact remains that once upon a time, there was more caring here and the Christmas tree was a real one, not the phony one put up.

We (well, some of us) would much rather the energy be spent on Public Safety (real patrolling and reporting--and, yes, there was another attempt to rob a resident inside the "community") clean loops (not the discarded junk), and sidewalks where you don't have to look for either dog refuse or a club car heading this way and that.

Even the outdoor playgrounds, on which money was spent, are a failure during the winter months and when it rains.

There is still a measure of lawlessness here, and Management knows this. The fake trees and a lot of artificial designs are not working. They look cheap. But, then again, perhaps they are working in a manner that is not expected.

STR,

The inoperative smiley clock is located in playground 12, not 6. Regarding the Christmas decorations. The artificial tree is big and tall with lots of lights that change. Rather meh but OK. What is really tacky is the large snowman and Santa figures that face the Oval. We have all heard the term “dormfication” the process that is happening at hyper drive here and the EV/Gramercy as well. I would like to add “rubefication” as well, the tacky Vampire Ball, these figures, the movies and concerts, the so call resort “amenities” that SPS thinks are so great. Funny, their prime demo, the student/transient/roommate crowd, does not give shit about these things while they prep for THE holiday event in their lives, the vomitorian called SantaCon. I’ll email you some back in the day Oval Christmas shots that were posted at one of the PCVST FB pages.

I would be happier with rent reduction! So would my triplets.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Yes, you are right. I meant the one above 6--12.

I can't find it, right now, but two of the playgrounds are closed. I think the newest outdoor one has not been finished on time.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Of course, there was time when the area about the Oval fountain was filled with Christmas decorations of the old fashioned kind. All over. That was a real Santa land....

I agree with the above posters about the cheap, tasteless tackiness here. Unfortunately there are enough residents that eat it up. Too bad. That is how Hayduk defends it and increases it. These tacky aspects are used to pose as “amenities “.

All those plastic and electric "decorations" are about as tacky and ugly as only this trashy "management" could come up with. Go away Rick and take your vile crew with you. This is not one of your cheap Carnival Cruise-style resorts. People actually live here - or try to. Stop catering to the fly-over state rubes that bred you and don't think that the students you love to pack into the deteriorating apartments are going to enjoy any of this. They probably laugh at it! Just as so many of us laugh at you and your style of management. Trouble is, we are laughing with tears in our eyes.

They are now trying to hawk us insurance! Even MetLife, which was a bona fide insurance company, didn't try to hawk its wares on tenants. This outfit is truly desperate to control every area of consumer consumption and I doubt that anything they sell is of quality. I would no more buy insurance from them than I would buy food at the E-Coli Five Turd Cafe. Total low-level crap all the way.

I remember the real trees. They were In the Oval fountain. There were three of them, the tallest in the middle, of course.
Large glass ornaments on them.
This is from the fifties when I was a little girl. It was pure magic.

Anonymous said...

Would be interesting to know what they spend on the flash dash decorations. That money would be better spent on reducing rents or security. This is why no one posts positive reviews.

Unfortunately many residents here including long term tenants love the tacky amenities. Including some of my neighbors. Do not underestimate Hayduk’s PR reach.

Santa Claus rented an Airbnb apartment while in New York.
Guess where?
That's right! Pig Stuy Town.
Alas, it was not without problems.
The reindeer clomped around the carpetless apartment.
There was little or no heat.
Sadly, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph "relieved" themselves in the hallways and stairwells.
Santa could not give them water because it came out brownish and brackish from the tap.
When Santa mentioned all this to Tenants Association President Susan "Grinch" Steinberg, she replied, "Ho, Ho, Ho. Just Call Rick".

I agree. Here’s how I see it broken down:

10-20% hate what’s going on here. A minority.

20-30% love what’s going on here. Absolutely adore Rick, and also the group that has Rick’s ear. More vocal than the minority.

The rest don’t give a damn because the are:
a) students,
b) working professionals who have no time to enjoy this place because they work 100 hours a week just to afford this place.

The biggest Fake of all: Rick Hayduk, Fake Manager.

Anonymous said...

“Truthfully, I think both religions get respect, events, etc, here. Even Santa is coming/has come to Stuy Town!”

However, that “respect” is visibly and undeniably disproportionate in the way that it is shown on this property.

The menorah is dwarfed and diminished by that absurdly, HUGE Christmas tree and the many in-your-face Christmas decorations all over the property, several of which are also over-the-top in size. What’s wrong with having just one normal size Christmas tree, the reasonably sized menorah they currently have and one symbol of anything else that people celebrate this time of year? That would show GENUINE and EQUAL respect for all religions and faiths.

I was at the Christmas tree (not holiday tree) lighting ceremony, and heard Ricks 12 Days of Christmas rendition relating to this property. It was cheesy, as to be expected, but one thing caught my attention - his mention of the carpeting. He basically threw shade at the whole situation, and made a laughing matter out of something that is an unbearable burden for many.

Seemed the market rate Moms got a kick out of Rick mentioning the 80% carpet coverage in his act.

There was a time when the Oval was a true representation of the Christmas spirit of Peace On Earth. It was a quiet, peaceful, tree-filled, park covered in a blanket of snow, under a star-filled sky that sparkled peacefully and quietly from lights on the large number of tall trees.

It was Peace On Earth as the celebration of Christmas, the birth of Christ, is meant to be and not this commercialized drunken greed for money circus.

“Three and a half years ago, it seemed they were both more involved in both businesses, and over time, Paul became more the brother handling the pest control and Keith became the brother more involved in the technology business,” Natelson said. “I don’t think I’ve seen Keith probably in a year.”

Am being called out by people I know because I don’t like the tacky blowups. Residents saying on the TA site that putting up this tacky crap is management doing something nice. Doing nice would be giving everyone heat, cleaning the loops, cleaning up the oval during the summer. Folks, this is why we can’t fight. This is the mentality here and I am talking about long time residents. Anything that Hayduk does is wonderful as they freeze in their pot smelling buildings.

Anonymous said...

Believe it or not, five long term residents that I actually know told me how cute the decorations are and how wonderful management is for putting them up. That is in addition to the ones posting on the TA site , one of whom is saying OMG I am ashamed of the negativity. Unreal. All over some oversized tacky blowups which by the way are often maligned in the suburbs.

Anonymous said...

Good breakdown, but the dissident sector may be smaller.

Anonymous said...

I truly believe that the overhyped and tacky decorations this year are PR designed to appeal to children and families. Not happening. The sky high rents will continue to dissuade families whether they put up one or ten blowup Santa’s and penguins.

Anonymous said...

That huge, garish Penguin parked near the eColi 5 Turd Café reminds me of something they'd have outside a cathouse in Nevada to lure the johns..er...suckers in.

In the famous movie Butterfield 8, Elizabeth Taylor, a high priced lady of ill repute says, "I don't care what you call me, just call me."

Susan Steinberg, Pres. of the Tenants Association, doesn't quite say "...just call me".
She says, "Just call Rick".

Hahaha...Happy Chanukah and Happy Holidays to All!

Probably women--and, no, that isn't a sexist remark, just what I see. (And, yes, many of the "bitchers" against these decorations are women, too.) Most, not all, of the residents who stop by and pet whatever dog is walked around the place (and the dog could be without that blue lanyard) are women. Just the facts, ma'am.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

One of the facts of life is that very few people change the world or a company's policy. Same thing with Stuyvesant Town. One would think/hope that there would be more "complainers," but the numbers are very few. Meanwhile, those who are dazzled by Management seem to be more in number. Then those that don't care or have given up caring are even more in number than that. Management doesn't care about these latter people, because they don't say anything. Management only really cares about the cheerleaders, because they give what happens here credibility. They have drunk the Kool Aid. The others, the complainers, are a pain in the neck, but that's about it.

It's amazing, but true, that the cheerleaders gloat about the Oval Fountain area and the replacement of the two plants with standing, flashing, artificial low-class figurines. Same thing with the music that used to be there for Christmastime. Here the cheerleaders, in a turn-about, complain about the old days as they embrace whatever Management will dish out to them.

Anonymous said...

Very well said STR. That is what a good PR man achieves and say what we will about Hayduk, he excels in that area.

When Roberts goes, this property will be as follows:

40% true RS
55% students
5% others that actually pay the ridiculous amounts to live here.

I don’t think a lot of the MR families are aware of what’s about to happen to them, and that is on our community man councilman to bring them up to speed. Think $4k is a lot for rent? Wait until they raise it to $8k, just because they can!

Anonymous said...

Rick the Savior is less than 12 months away from becoming Rick the Pariah. Once Blackstone can legally increase those rents as they please, the cheerleaders will be priced out for the most part, and things will get nasty.

I can just see Peter W’s Yelp responses now:
“Management has raised rents in accordance with all applicable laws, and has done nothing wrong. You are the moron that didn’t read your lease upon signing. Please refer a friend to live here.”

Rick should seriously be planning his escape before this all comes to fruition. And let’s not forget about our buddy Powers. He will be a one-term councilman if he doesn’t have a suitable plan in place to handle the Roberts expiration. He can thank his predecessor Garodnick for putting him in this situation.

I understand this is the brainchild of the new guy who took over the Sr. Center about 6 months ago. The operative word is Ask before you implements such a slap in the face to all our senior residents.

Rick - step up and do something for our seniors - not exile them to their cold, apartments, isolated. BTW: Hope you have a great New Years in Boca.

What the hell is wrong with those people who are endeavoring to help catch and find a home for the white rat? It's not "just a rodent;" these animals are bred to be pets. It's not the usual outdoor wild rat that has the skills and fur to survive in cold weather. And even if it is "just a rodent," why are these people getting so bend out of shape sneering and jeering at the people who happen to care about it? If they don't approve, let them keep their stupid remarks to themselves.

There's some nasty old woman who always to cite how things are done in the country and is openly heartless and mean. Well, I was raised in the country (on a farm) and I learned at a young age that country people are very kind and have respect for animals. The TA is learning from Rick - everything is about optics.

Put highly visible vests on public safety and have them roam the oval only (where a lot of people happen to walk through) makes it appear that there is an increase in security.

Post a question on Facebook hoping to gather information you have no interest in actually following up on, but it looks like you’re doing something.

It’s all optics, no true action. Where’s the follow-up on the robbery in 510 E23??? Where’s the follow up on the heating post on Facebook???

People who believe the optics are worse than the people behind the optics. Like the people who believe DeBlasio when he says crime is down in the city. Hey, you decriminalize everything under the sun and of course crime will decrease in stats.

The lies coming out of the Management Office are of Trumpian proportions! We are cold, we are plagued by noise from rugless neighbors with screechy, ambulance-siren voices and army boots. We are sick of this limp, failing so-called "Management" and the useless TA. We are helpless.

As far as the cut-backs at the Community Center, it's just more proof of the contempt Management has for the seniors. It is a well-known fact that they want them all to die so they can get their apartments. I hope that a lot of the seniors have a young family member on their lease and that person will keep the apartment RS. There is a war on against the elderly and real rent stabilized tenants and it is very ugly and very cruel. Karma is a bitch, though. Karma will get these bastards in the end.

And we know that Hayduk is here to placate the residents, or at least some of them. The noise coming from creating "new" rooms is continual and will not cease. Blackstone knows this (they examine the figures), so they figure to get in someone who will do exactly what Hayduk is doing.

And the construction along 14th Street? So far, our "good neighbor" Hayduk and Co. have not lifted a finger. Yeah, I know. Resides chose to live here and noise is part of living in the city. It's all BS meant to keep the residents in their place.

The Times’s J. David Goodman reports:

Amazon has a former city councilman from Queens working for the company before it faces contentious hearings with city lawmakers over its expansion into Long Island City. If you’ll recall, the company received as much as $3 billion in incentives from the city and state.

Amazon hired the influential lobbying firm Greenberg Traurig to represent it. Over the weekend, a lobbyist and former city councilman from Queens, Mark Weprin, made calls to some on the Council, according to three people familiar with the calls.

The lobbying appeared to signal that Amazon was taking opposition to the deal seriously.

A company spokeswoman said Amazon was “excited to work with New Yorkers” and that “we are going to be all hands on deck to ensure we continue to learn about the neighborhood and the community.”

She looked at me incredulously and with a distant, vacant expression on her face kept muttering over and over and over, "Just call Rick, just call Rick, just call Rick, just call Rick,...".

Anonymous said...

The TA is now officially the laughingstock of the property. I know there are numerous Facebook groups bashing them.

Stuy moms are calling them morons for trying to put restrictions on events.

People here are calling them idiots for collaborating with management.

Bottom line is they are idiots and morons. They can not do their one and only job, and that is to fight management on behalf of the tenants, because they are scared of Rick. They need to get lost.

We would all be better served just thinking we have no TA whatsoever.

Anonymous said...

Is there anyone else with problem with heat?
Ranges from sporadic to nonexistent.
At over four grand per month this is RIDICULOUS.

Anonymous said...

I agree. This survey corroboration attempt shows their incompetence. Management already knows that there is a problem. I have spoken to them and to local pols. You have to offer solutions and compromises. This organization does need to disband.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Instead of doing surveys, why not just do what is right for residents? The guiding members of the TA do live here? Or they don't get about that often? Take a look, investigate on your own, and stop it with the surveys and trying to placate Management. That's not what you are here for. Act.

What a joke that TA is. They said that they took a survey in September at the meeting. Well, what were the results? Why haven’t they acted in that survey instead of waiting three months. They have some nerve calling themselves a representative of tenants.

11:47 This site is all about vendettas. It's why the TA Fb page is always mentioned here. Maybe they lost an argument on that page. Or they're not getting the support or response they were looking for, from management or other tenants. Or maybe they just want to be offensive and mean without owning up to it. Look at all crap people post about moms here. And no one's calling Rick all the names he's called on this site to his face. I don't see mobs of angry renters stringing up Susan with bikinis and Christmas lights in the Oval. This site is fantastic for what it is, an anonymous online support group for residents who don't feel heard. Or heat in most cases. And there are a lot of unhappy tenants who need this outlet. But don't kid yourself it doesn't have a dark side.

Bread and Circuses—“ A diet of entertainment or political policies on which the masses are fed to keep them happy and docile.”

Potemkin Village---“A pretentiously showy or imposing façade intended to mask or divert attention from an embarrassing or shabby fact or condition.”

I think these two expressions sum up the current MO of Blackstone/SPS as they did once for TS and CWC/CompassRock. BTW, the new obvious focus group approved buzzword is now “Community”. That word is now used to stifle any complaints about the commercialization/noise events of the Oval (concerts, movies, etc.) and the rest of the property here. Yes, this was one of the quotes from the infamous TA FB page thread re the TA survey:

"As for the noise level, it's a city. "

And this one (same person): "If i shut my windows I can't hear the concerts or the movies. If the AC is on, I can't hear any outside noise." Nice. This person, as per her FB news feed, is an animal rights activist. I guess the health impact of noise on people does not concern her. BTW, I face the Oval and with all my windows closed and the A/C on, my apartment is unlivable with the noise.

Hey Rube, the interior of PCVST is PRIVATE property. And when Central Park has concerts, they monitor the sound so that the noise ends at the boundary of the Great lawn where the concerts are held. And for all of these events, SPS says; “For residents and their guests.”

Don’t get me started.

Let me refrain from the laugh smiley. Since I run this site, let me tell you what the site is. It is mentioning, with showing on occasion photos which do not lie, about the state of our community. If that is "vendettas" to you, so be it. To me, it is just presenting the truth.

>>And no one's calling Rick all the names he's called on this site to his face.<<

I go by conduct that doesn't "call" anyone a name to his or her face. I spoke recently and publicly, and Rick was there. (Perhaps you were, too.) But I wasn't a wallflower who didn't have anything negative to say about this community and the way it is being handled. Rick heard this, and he and Management can read to their delight what they want here, too. I also spoke to Rick, personally, about the uncovered mattresses that I continually see. He didn't care much about that.

I don't know where you get your information, but I suspect a portion of it is made up for your agenda.

Nice try, but it's not working.

Anonymous said...

Edmund, these posters do not care about those who have no heat or suffer from noise pollution. They blindly follow everything that management dies with all its tackiness.

Anonymous said...

STR, Rick doesn't give a flying fuck about what we, the tenants, want or don't want. He will continue to allow filthy mattresses to pile up, people to dump everything short of a bowel movement in the recycling bins, stamp around with no carpets and party til dawn. He will also continue to commercialize the Oval and have those fucking horrible concerts and movies blasting all through the summer evenings. He does not give a damn about what we want or don't want. He doesn't care if we get sick or have nervous breakdowns from the lack of sleep caused by his unwillingness to enforce the most basic of decent living policies. He doesn't care if dogs are walked through the property without lanyards and any outside dog or dog walker is welcome to come here and take a shit. Is the dog up to date on its shots? Who knows? Who cares? Certainly not Rick! So long as he gets his paycheck and spends as little time as possible here, he's a happy lad.

No way is this is a "community." It is a dorm/extended stay hotel poorly-managed shithole and it has Rick Hayduk's name over the door.

Indeed, NO WAY is this a "community."
It is a dorm/extended stay hotel poorly-managed shithole.
It is tragic and vile how what was once an "oasis" has now become one step ( barely ) above a NYCHA New York City Housing Project.
The only difference is that the fools here pay three to six thousand dollars a year to live in this dump.
Must be the "amenities."

Rick will be gone by March 2019. Some of us live in his building.

Anonymous said...

Edmund - If the TA was a real TA it would be going after Blackstone/Hayduk for the flagrant, ongoing violation of the zoning law that applies to this property. Virtually every sizable activity that is supposed to be “For Residents and their Guests” is known to non-guest outsiders and attended by non-guest outsiders. Forcing Hayduk/SPS to require that keycards be shown by every tenant at every one of these events, which is the only way to truly enforce the ”For Residents and their Guests” restriction, would probably put an end to most of these Bread and Circuses attractions since that kind of enforcement would be too unwieldy, too time consuming and require too much costly manpower.

Anonymous said...

This place ceased to be a community when they began renting full scale to students. A community is where you know your neighbors and don’t see new faces in the building every day. I seriously do not know who lives in my building anymore. I may recognize about 20. That is it.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

That reasoning sounds strange to me, especially from a person that supposed to be our prime example of a "good neighbor." Much more likely is that there are better places in the city if you have the money. If it's true, I wonder what the reason will be in the official letter.

If Rick is leaving the job, I don't think he will be any kind of loss to us. He has achieved nothing on his watch that positively impacts living conditions here. He is all lip-service and no action when it comes to enforcing the rules.

Wouldn't want to stay in any hotel or resort he would run. Without QOL rules, no place is worth living in whether short stay or long stay. Unfortunately, for a good many of us this is our home and we won't be checking out until we REALLY check-out in a box! For those of us who call this place home, he has been a very, very bad manager. For the sake of attracting transients and students with the tacky, gimicky "entertainment" crap and renting to undergrad students, he has ruined the lives of many people who just want to live quietly and safely in our homes and have pleasant grounds to enjoy as a true oasis in the City.

Anonymous said...

They should have called PS! :-)

Anonymous said...

If it's true that the family "got spooked," they richly deserved it, considering what Daddy has done (or more correctly, not done).

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I don't know what "spooked" means? So somebody rings your bell. If you don't want someone to do that (you are, after all, the Good Neighbor), then you put up a sign (yeah, illegal, I guess) which states, "Please do not ring or knock. Sleeping child inside." That should be it. If not, then you call PS. Don't tell me Rick can't do that!

And how do these people get inside the building? They have to be tenants of that building.

Anonymous said...

The renting to students and transients will continue whether Rick is here or not. That is Blackstone policy, not his department. As for the cheap tacky events I would hope they would lessen but would not guarantee it under a new manager.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Also, why has there been no letter to tenants: "Even though our GM lives in Peter Cooper Village, please respect the privacy of his family...." No, not saying he won't go, but the "spooked" story seems too convenient to blame others....

If he goes it probably means his contract is up. No matter to me. Any manager would be similar and ineffective.

In this day and age of (often preposterous) accusations of civil rights violations, public insult, court cases regarding allegations of racism, sexism and the like, I think we could FINALLY GET SOME TRACTION AND SOME PUBLICITY this way:

ALL of the many "decorations" are CHRISTIAN oriented. There is one Jewish menorah, and yes, it is dwarfed by the Christmas tree. In 70 years or so, this blatant Christmas-in-your-face visual assault has never happened here. Further, today is the last night of Hanukkah, while Christmas is weeks away (the idiotic and invasive, obnoxious "decorations" have been up for quite some time.)

I think we might be able to have reporters and/or attorneys who could publicize and make a case ---- an outcry of outrage ---- of blatant anti-Semitism boldly displayed here.

No, you don't need to be Jewish or even care about things Jewish to desire to expose the landlord here. Blackstone's minions decided to surround the Oval and adjoining territory, as well as infest First Avenue with Christian decorations, ignoring the Jewish Festival of Lights.

What say you? Does anyone want to explore what I think is a viable case in our present politically correct times?

(E-mail me at "quietenjoymentnow@gmail.com" or talk about the possibilities here. Thank you.)

<“Truthfully, I think both religions get respect, events, etc, here.

Well, we would have to take a look at the prices, for one. My impression is that the Christmas trees in Stuy Town cost more this year, but I know the prices on 14th Street were always higher. To residents here, the Stuy Town location is more convenient. As far as I know, there is no or very little noise made in selling Christmas trees.

Anonymous said...

Stand Up and Fight, you wasted a lot of time typing out that ridiculous message. I don’t defend this management in any way whatsoever, but their Menorah is bigger than any previous management company had out there, and they had a pretty nice Menorah lighting ceremony. They had their cameramen out there taking photos of the event, so if you came at them with this, they would have the photo and video evidence to put you in your place.

Also, they call everything else “Holiday Decorations,” not Christmas decorations, so you’d have a hard time with that too. Keep fighting your fight, but don’t be petty about things, as it will turn people off to what you’re doing very quickly.

Anonymous said...

i call bullshit on this carpet rule. None of our neighboring tenants have carpets. Who the fuck makes up this nonsense rule that is completely false? Calling Ps is bullshit they show up an hour later and no help.

Anonymous said...

ALL the holiday decorations here are an insult to Muslim residents!!

Anonymous said...

What concerns me most about the Christmas tree sales on the property is that we have another commercial entity, on the property, providing a product and service (delivery) to non-residents. When does it end???

5-Stuy Cafe - anyone can walk in.

Ice Rink - although it says residents and their guests only, I personally know people from outside the property who have just walked in and used the rink. They didn’t ask for an ID.

Oval Concerts and Events - DEFINITELY not only for residents.

Greenmarket - anyone can walk in and use

Basically they need these outsiders to continue coming in, because they help fund these things. If it were only tenants, most things would fall flat on their face.

Anonymous said...

Although I agree that some of the decorations are tacky and overblown, it has always been like that here at holiday season, even under Met. Not seeing that as a valid strategy..

Also, approaching Associated today, there was a cloud of debris being kicked up by the "leaf" blowers from the MTA. So high and expansive was this cloud, that people passing had to cover their mouths. Is there a supervisor around? And where is he or she?

I think that I've been pretty badly misinterpreted regarding Christmas decorations/Christian decorations/Jewish or Muslim or any other religion's decorations.

I'm not surprised. I expected differing opinions and, most likely, lack of understanding of my point and plea.

It seems to be the contention on the blog that we CANNOT successfully fight Blackstone. I heartily disagree for reasons historical, sociological, even biologic.

Be that as it may, because people are so often bringing suits against other people and organizations, and complaining bitterly about being discriminated against, labeled incorrectly (straight, gay, male, female, "they," "non-binary" and such), and being allowed to both sue in court and make a huge public and often prolonged hubbub about their hurt feelings and deprivation of "civil rights," I thought that the Christmas visual intrusion and invasion might be worth using here against Blackstone.

I understand everything everyone wrote here, I think, in connection with my last plea for ACTION.

I've one and only one strong disagreement: THIS ISN'T "SEASON'S GREETINGS." Since Europeans of many ethnicities and nationalities set foot on this continent, tormenting and slaughtering most of the life forms, they've proclaimed this a "Christian" nation. And still do.

And normalized Christmas as "the winter holiday," "nothing religious." It most assuredly is not.

Some research would uncover the fact that many of ANY religion's holidays hearken back to seasonal and agricultural observances. That fact is not germane here, though. Santa Claus and presents and sleighs and "Christmas" trees and all the rest are CHRISTIAN. If millions of people in this country agreed this is generic, well, good for them. Just ain't so.

Ask the Jewish people, the Muslim people, the Hindu people, the Buddhist people, and folks of hundreds or thousands of other belief systems.

I wish what I always wish: We would join together to

STAND UP AND FIGHT.

And I wish for all of us peace and safety and heat and unselfish behavior.

I am not sure why posters do not tell us on this site how we are supposed to fight Blackstone with no TA and few supporters. A lot of this may be sincere but empty talk. We cannot compare what happens here with class and religious issues. We need lawyers.

I believe that 8:13 is talking about the fact that this proposal to accuse Blackstone of religious discrimination is trivial and I agree. I find this blog real and good for venting but some posts are not what we should be focusing on.

Anonymous said...

The blog is in a sense amusing because of its unwillingness to acknowledge anything but the “ bad” here. Longing for the “ good old days “ of MetLife is like the political focus groups where participants long for the “ good old days” in this country. I have lived here for almost 40 years so I can distinctly remember “Mother Met” which was run like a benevolent dictatorship. Then the truly bad days of Tishnan Speyer whose business plan centered around the eviction of as many old time RS tenants as possible as quickly as possible followed by the group that represented the bond holders who were even more evil that Tishman . Now came Blackstone. Not great but a lot closer to MetLife than the other 2 landlords. The change in RS laws under Pataki and Bruno is the fundamental cause of the rapid growth in the transient population in STPCV, which is at the heart of many of the problems here . But there are still many many positives about living in STPCV but instead you and a handful of others like to complain about such “ meaningful “ issues as the size of the Christmas tree , the number of Chanukah decorations and my (recent ) favorite - criticizing the Veterans’Day celebration which I attended as a proud member of multigenerational Army vets

Anonymous said...

Talking about bringing suit against Blackstone for the Christmas onslaught is absurd. Heat and noise issues yes. This not. A suit must be brought by lawyers. Our TA apparently will not use their lawyers and those who suggest fighting have not mentioned lawyers. At one time, forming a new TA was meantioned on this blog. What happened to that?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The new TA is in the works, but it is not like the old TA or even a TA that we know.

I disagree that Blackstone is closer to Met Life than prior owners. In what way? There are increasing numbers of students and transients, the property is garbage strewn, and the noise from residents and events is relentless. Rules are not enforced. In no way does this management compare withMet Life.

Anonymous said...

I agree that the current TA is virtually completely dormant. But as for a new TA , that is never going to happen.Been tried before and failed.. Need money and many people willing to spend a lot of time to both convince people that the current TA is toothless and that an alternative will work better.. Easy to complain about TA ( and their are legitimate complaints) ,much much more difficult to do the work to start a new organization

But of whom are you speaking? There are different views. My criticism of the decorations has to do with their fakery and, in some cases, their low-class look. Fact is, there was a time when a Christmas tree was real in the Oval. So a fake tree is above criticism? As to Veterans' Day, I am a veteran and I found one of the "commemorations" insulting and, again, low-class. Am I not suppose to criticize that? Or criticize the guy sitting with an exposed beer belly close to the flags that were commemorating fallen soldiers? If you like these things, fine. But I wish to say something about them. Am I allowed to?

Anonymous said...

The student/transient population is not a result of RS law changes. It is the result of Blackstone charging outrageous rents for these apartments and turning them over as quickly as possible.

Anonymous said...

I don't give a damn about Christmas, Chanukah, Diwali or Ramadan. To those people who do care about these things - enjoy, but don't expect to have equal opportunity coverage. If you went to visit Saudi Arabia, you would get much in the way of Christmas cheer. Or Chanukah, for that matter.

Let's not get exercised about whatever superstition Management treats as more important than another because it is really not at all important. What IS important is Management's cavalier disregard for the rules that it purports to espouse. I don't care about Holidays, but I do care about my upstairs neighbors having no carpets; the little dog next door barking her silly head off non-stop; the shit, piss and puke that is often deposited in the stairwells and elevators by the parentally-rejected students and millenials who live here, albeit temporarily.
If your parents didn't bother to teach you social mores and acceptable civilized behavior, it's because they didn't love you enough to do that They had more important things to do. Sorry for your loss of decent parenting and the love that goes with that, but it is not my problem and I strongly resent your presence in the place I call home and pay an exorbitant amount for the "privilege" of living here. I would love living here if it were not for you uncouth rubes and the totally useless and unprofessional "Management" we have to endure here. When Rick Hayduk leaves here (which I hope will be soon) his prospective employers should check out this blog and see what a useless piece of baggage he will be if they are stupid enough to give him a job.
Happy Whateverthefuckyourholiday is, folks.

Of course you are - this is your blog. And I have the right to criticize

Who cares about the stupid decorations???? Give us heat and peace and quiet and you can keep your merry bells, Christmas trees, menorahs and all other symbols of nonsense! I pay rent to live here so that I can live peacefully, safely and without being constantly disturbed by idiot fucktard neighbors. I don't care if they have Xmas trees or not. Just give me what I'm paying rent for: heat, a reasonable degree of peace and quiet and the knowledge that I am as safe as can be expected in this gun-happy, crime-ridden city.

I think part of the great thing about this blog is that it gives people a voice. Sure, it may be anonymous, but with fear of retribution from one of the richest companies in the world, most feel that doing it anonymously is the only way to go about it.

If you read the blog long enough, you are able to weed through legit concerns people have about this property vs. the conspiracy theories that are baseless. I usually get a chuckle from those.

The bottom line is that this blog affords people the opportunity to vent about what’s going on here without fear of retribution. Most of the things on here are legit concerns, and just having the ability to write about it gives some people the peace of mind they need, especially since they know management is reading the blog.

Part 1 - The Fake TA

"The student/transient population is not a result of RS law changes. It is the result of Blackstone charging outrageous rents for these apartments and turning them over as quickly as possible."

December 10, 2018 at 9:52 PM

Agree but Blackstone is a member of investment group and has investment groups with Metlife who long are in on property development plan into a more profitable business model student housing / luxury hotel condo concierge living.

Metlife's plan, multipurpose living community of profitable student housing / luxury condominium-hotel concierge living was in the works since Koch.

1990's they tried and failed.
They tried and failed early this century.
They tried and failed again 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016.

2013 they famously celebrated themselves with press photos, releases and parties certain of 3rd term Mayor delivering the land to ALL invested developer members after Bloomberg and Speyer get rid of the big, bad system-abuser Speyer famously said was simply their way to "rid its buildings of tenants who are abusing the system but tenant advocates said "their aggressive hundreds of eviction notices seen by tenant advocates to attempt "to drive out lowrent tenants to make way for highrent ones"

Once Rob Speyer's invested developer group rid system abusing tenants, ground is to break.

A member of the invested developer group, PCV ST Tenant Association Board, worked tirelessly with fellow invested developers including property management, to rid buildings of tenants abusing the system with the famously secret John Marsh online bed bug registry that suspiciously is not published in NYC records.

https://town-village.com/2015/07/06/marsh-steps-down-from-st-pcv-ta/

The TA Board's tireless work went above and beyond while investor developers bought up surrounding real estate using same aggressive tactics to drive out rent stabilized tenants banking on PCV ST development increasing value of surrounding property values after hero Rob Speyer's investor group rids of morally bankrupt system abusing tenants.

2013 development didn't happen. 5 years later, 2018 news breaks on invested developers (Kushner LES, Cohen Group LES, Toledano, Croman) gaming the system, evading taxes, aggressively, illegally forcing out LES tenants, filing false business documents with city government who turn blind eyes and deaf ears.

Opening the books, Cohen Group, Croman, Toledano, Kushner and PCV ST TA Board, will show they use the same tactics of malice on rent stabilized tenants and expose the secret bed bug report, pest management company scheme.

ST PCV tenants are not morally bankrupt, pest infested, system gamers. They were good, hard working middle class people who knew their neighbors and who are "without-mercy" ruthlessly victimized by invested developers.

The truth about invested developers is in the New York Times etc this year.

Priceless 2013 photo invested developers celebrating themselves getting richer thanks to the Mayor - Mike Bloomberg LES / ST PCV investor developers the Speyers, Kushners Cohen Group etc

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and co-chairs Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, Anne-Cecilie Speyer and Rob Speyer hosted the annual Gracie Mansion Conservancy benefit dinner Tuesday night in New York City.

Part 2 The Fake TA

2018 The New York Times reports who is gaming the system and The Atlantic reports the true character of the Mayor, how even high ranking City Council speaker is victimized with demands that women must dress in sexier clothes.

‘I’d Do Her’: Mike Bloomberg and the Underbelly of #MeToo
Disparaging comments. Demeaning jokes. As the mogul reportedly considers a 2020 presidential run, it remains an open question whether his long-alleged history of undermining women will affect his chances.

MEGAN GARBER SEP 19, 2018

Shame on the disgraceful PCV ST TA Board aligning with real estate developers maligning innocent tenants, aggressively targeting tenants with accusations of causing the community a bad reputation and damaging the property value.

Tenants are not system gamers of bad character. RE developers have long, well-earned criminal history and prison time in 1990's and as of late Croman. In between the Speyers, Kushners, Cromans, Cohens, PCV ST TA and the likes got away with a lot of crimes against innocent rent stabilized tenants.

"Charles Kushner is an American real estate developer. He founded Kushner Companies in 1985. In 2005, he was convicted of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering, and served time in federal prison. After his release, he resumed his career in real estate. His son, Jared Kushner, is the husband of Ivanka Trump and son-in-law and senior advisor to President Donald Trump.

http://amsterdamnews.com/news/2018/jun/07/citys-predatory-equity-landlords-named/

Three notable landlords named Steven Croman, Raphael Toledano and ... Jared Kushner.

Court records show that tenants in several Kushner properties on the Upper East Side, in Brooklyn and in the East Village reported attempted evictions through harassment, construction and dilapidated conditions.

August 27, 2018
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/27/nyregion/kushner-cohen-rent-regulated-tenants.html

The loss of ST PCV is because generations of Speyers, Kushners and wannabes as PCV ST TA falsely accuse the middle class of committing crimes of the upper class, gaming the system aka tax evasion.

It is too bad the reporter Charles Bagli chose not name of Cohen, Kushner investment group members forcing rent stabilized tenants out with same tactics used on Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village.

Anonymous said...

@8:51 AM: you are absolutely right. Management reads the TA Facebook posts and sometimes contacts tenants based on what they say. No need to go bananas here (as some folks do!), but it is a safe place to voice concerns (and vent if that's what you feel like doing) without the fear of Big Brother coming after you.

Bottomline
PCVST has a history of clean living, hard working, middle class

RE has a history of crimes, prison, support of politicians

One complaint that I and a significant number of my fellow tenants in my building which remains completely ignored is lack of carpeting. I called management , together with my next door neighbor, about our upstairs neighbor , over one month ago and nothing has changed

Anonymous said...

@12:00 PM: allowing noisy people with no carpeting is a way that Management vicariously harasses tenants in order to keep the apartments turning over and, of course, to torment the older rent stabilized tenants. They know that such intrusive noise and disturbance causes health problems. They are fully aware of that and it is a useful tool to them to drive tenants to move out. They WANT the older tenants to get sick and die. They have no morals whatsoever. They are evil. Don't ever kid yourself that Hayduk isn't fully supportive of that tactic. If he wasn't, he would do something about it.

The evil of the RE mob is worse than anyone can gauge. Notice that Jared Kushner is offering sympathy and advice to the Saudi Prince who ordered the murder of a Washington Post reporter? There is no bottom to the depths of depravity of the RE cabal. The politicians who they pull into their plans with bribes and promises are no better.

The 'Wipe' below me constantly playing loud music at the wrong times. HELLO! YOU KNOW THAT THERE'S ACTUALLY PEOPLE THAT LIVE AROUND YOU! INCONSIDERATE $#!@*%!!

Anonymous said...

Management doesn't care, my fellow neighbors don't care, guess what, you guessed right, I DON'T CARE! More now than ever. I used to call for every little thing in and around my building, but now I only care what goes on in MY APARTMENT!

Anonymous said...

12:00pm - And nothing WILL change because MANAGEMENT DOES NOT CARE! For well over a dozen years as the tenants (usually students) above us have come and gone with clock-like regularity every two years or so, NONE OF THEM has ever bothered with carpeting and/or rugs of any kind whatsoever. Pleading with management and/or the tenants themselves will accomplish absolutely nothing. You will just have to get used to the stomping and other assorted noises. That's the way it is around here. Sad, but true.

Anonymous said...

Why isn't carpeting rule enforced?
Sounds like a bowling alley above me.
Have contacted Resident Services numerous times.
They "yes" me to death.
They do nothing.
Evidently all they care about is collecting rent.
Any suggestions from any other beleaguered tenants?
Thank you.

Send the people in SPS the following link and tell them that Rick Hayduk says that 80% carpet coverage is required and has acknowledged that the lack of carpeting is a serious and VERY REAL problem for the neighbors of tenants who don’t have their floors covered. In fact, you (and everyone else reading this) should download Rick’s video and save it for future reference. I would also recommend taking a screen shot of the page and keeping it for further proof. Now that the cat is out of the bag and the head of PCVST has freely admitted that uncovered floors are a SERIOUS and VERY REAL problem, no one - regardless of who any future manager might be - will ever be able to deny it, at least not with a straight face.

https://www.stuytown.com/questions/why-is-80-carpet-coverage-required

And here’s another link from the StuyTown.com website that you can send SPS to remind them of their very own rules:

https://www.stuytown.com/nyc-apartments-info/living-basics

“Since your home is part of a multiple dwelling community and noise travels easily from apartment to apartment, it is expected that you will do everything possible to diminish the transmission of sound and noise. Here are some noise dampening suggestions:

- Carpet your apartment in accordance with the terms of your Lease. Your lease requires that rugs or carpeting must cover 80% of all floors at all times. Floor covering is not required in the kitchen or bathroom
- Listen to movies and music at an acceptable level. Use headphones for late-night listening
- Talk, entertain guests, play video games, or participate in other activities in ways that do not infringe on your neighbors’ right to quietly enjoy and utilize their apartment
- Place all home entertainment equipment off the floor and away from attached or shared walls
- Place thick padding under exercise equipment
- Refrain from walking around in hard or high heel shoes
- Be mindful and considerate of neighbors during traditionally quiet hours (late night and early morning)

Questions should be directed to the StuyTown Carpet Inspections Group at CarpetInspectionGroup@stuytown.com. Report noise complaints to Public Safety at 212.598.5233. Founded complaints are addressed by Management through an aggressive notification and response process...”

The student/transient population is not a result of RS law changes. It is the result of Blackstone charging outrageous rents for these apartments and turning them over as quickly as possible."

Not to nitpick, but changes to the rent laws are exactly the reason that Blackstone is able to churn these apartments, specifically the fact that IAI's and MCI's are charged in perpetuity, and that the DHCR doesn't give a rats ass about what landlords claim are the true costs of renovation or the abuse of vacancy increases.

Anonymous said...

Rick Hayduk simply does not care about the uncarpeted apartments and the grief they cause their neighbors. The man is a total jackass who only cares about himself. I hope he leaves soon and that they hire someone who is willing and able to do the job. This property has an absolutely terrible reputation. It is widely known that it is a dorm and that tenants have to struggle with noise, heat (lack of) problems and is an unsafe place to live because of the cutbacks in PS. They also are agog at the unusually high rate of suicides here.

Anonymous said...

I wish I could tell future prospective tenants what I now know. Do they read this blog or know about us living in hell with crepe paper walls and asshole neighbors that shout bang fight and have no rugs whatsoever. I wishI had known.

Anonymous said...

Like they really care. We can remind them from here to kingdom come and they still will do nothing.

Anonymous said...

I agree. I worry about my own apartment now. Pot smell on the floor. Let their next door or downstairs neighbors complain. Tired of this low demo student crap.

Anonymous said...

Great post but nothing will change here.

That Peter Stuyvesant site caters to the young snots who live here. They allow name calling and insults and then get snarky when older tenant criticize management. Not only should the TA disband, it should disband that absurd biased site.

SUNY dorms are a plague caused by a now convicted felon

https://buffalonews.com/2018/12/11/judge-sentences-alain-kaloyeros-to-3-1-2-years-in-prison/

Judge to would-be crooks after Kaloyeros sentencing: 'You will go to jail'

"This sentence serves as a warning to others in public life," Caproni said. "If you engage in public corruption, you will be shown no mercy, and you will go to jail."

Caproni said Kaloyeros and Joseph Percoco, a former top aide to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, were most responsible for the schemes that infused the Buffalo Billion contracts with corruption.

And she sentenced Kaloyeros accordingly, giving him more prison time than any other defendant in the two Buffalo Billion trials except Percoco, who received a six-year prison sentence after an earlier trial.

It will continue to be a dorm dump as long as Blackstone owns it whether Rick is manager orbit. The company sets the rental policies, not the manager.

Disgruntled Tenant said...

The Tenants Association and its president, Susan "Just Call Rick" Steinberg are reviled by most long term tenants as corrupt, dishonest and shills of Management.

They may not care, but sending them the carpeting links will at least let them know that we know that they are not enforcing the terms of their own leases and that we consider their inaction to be a form of tenant harassment.

Potential Market Rate Renter said...

Really, can anyone tell me the difference between PigStuyTown and NYCHA ( New York City Housing Authority )?
The buildings look the same.
Aren't they both essentially "projects"?
Whereas those in NYCHA pay in the hundreds for rent, those in PigStuyTown pay insanely, exhorbitant amounts from 4 to 6 thousand per month market rate.
Kindly explain this to me.
Can people be that stupid?
