I've Never Seen Stuy Town Look So Bad - Continued

On January 3rd of this year, I posted photos of "spray painting" by Playground 12. Despite a couple of rainy days (which, we are told, would get rid of any spray painting), the removal of the painting did not occur, though it was lessened to a degree. Also, despite heading over the PS office nearby twice and hearing that the mother of the kid that did this assured PS that the painting would be gone, nothing much seemed done. Once again, it seemed that no one cared.

Yesterday, I headed over to take photos again. This is the result:

This is not all. On Tuesday, a meeting was held for the neighborhood at 13th Precinct, something the police does every month. "Our" TA made posts on their Facebook, giving the date and time, and making it seem that Stuy Town residents would do well to attend and voice their concerns about the cozy relationship between the 13th and our PS force. It was suggested to the TA that it should be there and present ST and PCV concerns. I was there. Officially, the TA was NOT.

This is something I see again and again. That "our" TA does little to engage Management. In fact, the word is that the relationship between Management and the TA is master and slave. You guess who is the slave....

Of course, this is not all. I can post about the lack of heat, the "club" cars going this way and that, including across 20th Street, the discarded mattresses on the loops, the wretched condition of the paths, the noise and filth from the construction of the subway extension on 14th Street, the overflowing truck that picks up garbage along 1st Avenue, etc....

And here is a preview of what I see everyday in Peter Cooper Village (photo taken yesterday, too):

This is how wonderful our community is.

----------

Update 1/19/2019. Photo taken this morning:

I have seen a couple mattresses covered, as required by law, but I have seen quite a few recently that are not covered, and one time, four together! Also, on my way back from Associated, I saw once again that nothing had been done to clean up the paint spray near Playground 12. I guess no one really cares, including PS and our Management. (I've made three visits already to the PS office on this issue.) I also saw a dog running inside the "no dog" area walkway by the grass Oval. Welcome to Stuy Town!

For some reason, Blackstone is running this place into the ground and turning it into a slum. I'm sure they have their reasons, and they are bound to be all about money. Either that, or they hired a very inept and indifferent person to manage the place. I don't think Rick really cares about the living conditions here. I get the feeling he isn't around that much and has very little interest in his job.

Anonymous said...

Rick just does what he is told to do. He doesn't own the place.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

If you check out photo number one, you will note something else besides the paint: The condition of the walkway. Much of the walkways of Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village look like this. They are a disgrace. But what can you expect with club cars all over the place, Segways, etc.

Well, The Doctor is back, writing to T&V again.
As a reader of T&V since the late Fifties (fortunately, one no longer has to pay anything to access it), can report that it has always been a propaganda arm of Management/advertising vehicle, and is in no way "informative"--unless one reads carefully 'between the lines'.
Furthermore, under The Founder, Hagedorn, Sr., it was a mouthpiece for the most reactionary and prejudiced viewpoints on every subject.
Of course, neither Hagedorn--both Sr. and Jr.--nor the 'staff' (currently, 3 people) ever actually lived here.

StuyTown landlord Blackstone wants to continue its control of NYC City Hall from Bloomberg through deBlasio and onto the next person they put there.

Here is who they are lining up to continue the Blackstone control of public servants from DHCR to City Hall.

Past experience during his decades in public service, his current job on Wall Street, and his current real estate friends including StuyTown landlord Blackstone shady executives are very good reason to never vote David Paterson for any public office.

Well, I guess the property is running at a loss. No heat (hardly any and none overnight); no upkeep of grounds; constant, desperate advertising for tenants and more people moving OUT than are moving in. Says something about the state of affairs. I've spoken to several people who are paying big bucks to live here and they say they didn't anticipate such lack of heat during the cold months and that they can't wait to move out. I hope the bastards running this place are happy that they are creating so much misery. I hope Karma comes back to bite them in the ass.

It is my impression that some truly ugly people in the Blackstone Group have ORDERED their "management" of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village to CUT BACK SEVERELY ON HEAT THIS 2018-2019 WINTER.

These are the same Blackstone Group people who designate the Oval "a great resource" and who were, I am near certain, behind the daily horror show of "entertainment" on the Oval almost every night through June, July, August, and further into the Fall this year.

It is my impression that, like Captain Jean Luc Picard of the U.S. Starship Enterprise (Star Trek, for those of who unfamiliar with this icon), WHOMEVER in Blackstone Group said to Ri Hayduk and others on his level: MAKE IT SO.

In other words, I think it more than likely that the "management" people here were ORDERED TO TOTALLY NEUTRALIZE SECURITY, DESTROY THE GROUNDS, PULL IN airbnb, INCREASE THE NUMBER OF DORM ROOMS, INCREASE THE NOISE AND "EVENTS" DURING THE SUMMER AND WINTER (INCLUDING THE RINK), AND DEFINITELY

REDUCE OR ELIMINATE HEAT.

It seems to me that "management" is tasked with (1) reducing or eliminating heat while being deprived of (2) ALL RESOURCES WITH WHICH TO DEAL WITH SCREAMING, COMPLAINING, DESPERATE, INFURIATED FREEZING RESIDENTS.

In other words, the bastards way up further in Blackstone told the poor working stiffs here (Rick and Company) to goddamn stop/severely reduce the heat and then, "you're on your own when the tenants go nuts screaming and demanding heat."

Like lots of "bosses" who assign horrible tasks to employees and then leave the employees to flounder and drown.

Please, please, please: do not interpret this as a declaration on my part of acceptability. I am simply explaining what I an nearly 100% certain is happening here.

I have worked in too many organizations in which these exact same tactics were used. I've written about this previously. It is hideous and my response, personally, has always been, HELL NO, I WON'T DO IT. But, most people do go along with anything "the boss" demands. Out of FEAR.

And, as I've written before: if any of the employees here, including Rick, Kelly, and all of the others, say NO, they're in a similar situation to which we obviously can all relate: OPENLY DEFYING THOSE WHO PAY YOU, OR OWN YOUR HOME CAN EVENTUATE IN YOUR HOMELESSNESS ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.

If people posting on this blog were not petrified of eviction, they'd post names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and ORGANIZE AGAINST BLACKSTONE.

And again, I strongly urge you to read up on Blackstone Group and on its head, Stephen Schwarzman, and the real estate head, Jon Gray. These people, and many who work with them and for them, in the upper tiers, are patently psychopathic creatures who consistently hurt others. It ain't just us, I'm afraid. Find out about it.

Blackstone is nothing more then a shadow bank. This is also public, published knowledge.

That makes them one ponzi scam away from a collapsing hollow house of cards.

Oh, please. Stop it. No one is forcing Rick and Company to work for Blackstone. If Rick and Company had an ounce of shame, pride or humanity, they would not work for an organization that INTENTIONALLY INFLICTS HARM ON OTHER HUMAN BEINGS BY DEPRIVING THEM OF HEAT.

WHERE is the Tenants Association in all this?
Not a peep out of them in regards to heat issues.
Kindly explain WHAT they do?!

I have just discovered this blog.
Very enlightening.
I, too, am with minimal or no heat.
The heating pipes are invariably cold.
They will send up a puff of heat and then nothing.
I live on a low floor. Yet some people on my line say they are roasting, others say they are freezing.
For the rents charged, this is truly a disgraceful situation.

“The period between October 1 and May 31 is Heat Season. During this time, the City requires building owners to provide tenants with heat according to the following rules:

Between 6 AM and 10 PM, if the outside temperature falls below 55 degrees, the inside temperature must be at least 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

Between 10 PM and 6 AM, the inside temperature must be at least 62 degrees Fahrenheit at all times. There is no outside temperature requirement.”

The heat is frequently below 62 degrees overnight. It just about nudges 68 during the daytime, no matter how cold it is outside.

If Rick had an ounce of decency and dignity and pride (not to mention compassion), he would defy his evil, godless bosses and put the heat on. He's just a flunky hanging in till he can retire and collect his pension. He is totally indifferent as to what a shit hole this place has become.

They post crap on their blog telling the tenants that they are on their own and reply “very good” when someone posts about management sealing their windows. They are a waste.

LOL. So today I got letter from JP Morgan, the bank that is now holding tenants security deposits. Everything was nicely detailed. There were a few dollars taken for Federal income tax, but the rest of the money ($7.77) was taken by "Tenant Security Agent Admin Fee." Who/What is that? I will ask when office hours are in place. I do know that with Citibank, there was at least a dollar plus that went to the tenant. No more with Chase. I guess we are lucky that we are not paying for the privilege of Chase holding our money. At least right now.

Clearly, some people writing comments on this blog do NOT know the heating requirements. The reason I posted them was to let Shivering Sally know that at 5:35am 64 degrees was acceptable under the law. Although I think that a minimum heat requirement of 62 degrees between 10pm and 6am is absurdly low and cold in the middle of winter, the City of New York does NOT. And, whether you like it or not or agree with it or not, it’s what the City thinks that counts legally. You would not have a winnable, legal case against Blackstone for only providing 64 degrees of heat at that hour.

STR,

The dollar you used to receive a check for was withheld as federal tax this time around. You can add it to your other tax documents as tax withheld. Additionally, if you are still able to itemize your deductions you can add the administration fee to your schedule A.

Thank you. I checked the rate of interest in a savings account since 1960, which at the time was 10.4%. The highest rate was the following decade at 12.9%. Now it is down to below 2.4%. This is a general figure, of course. Banks, which are regulated by the government, have done little, as I see it, to make sure that people save. The message is spend, spend, spend, pay, pay, pay.

Clearly, this is a pattern of calculated tenant harassment and reduction of services. The heat is not a service that Management can arbitrarily reduce. It is a legal requirement and Management is breaking the law. How do they get away with this! Bribes to the City agency that has oversight in these matters? Bribes to our political representatives (I'm talking to you, Power) to look the other way?
There's something very dirty and sinister going down and we need a thorough investigation.

I'm sorry, but once again I accidentally deleted something I should not have. It was a comment about a nanny suing her tenants, who had installed a "secret" camera in the bathroom. The apartment is in Stuy Town. The police are involved.

OMG! Just read that NYP article about the Nanny. It just shows how corrupt and despicable the cops at the 13th Pct are. The vile people who installed the camera (the Seltzers) are bad enough and I hope this really comes back to bit them in the ass (and bank account), but what shocks me even more is the behavior of the 13th Pct cops. They obviously are on the take when it comes to the wealthy and connected and it's no wonder that there is so much crime here and so little policing. Who the Hell knows what kind of stuff has gone down and been covered up by these corrupt, filthy cops and their "patrons."

There's something so unwholesome and sinister about this whole stinking place and the people who run it (and some who live in it) that it makes my skin crawl. Rick makes my skin crawl because he is such a phoney. The property is worse now than it's ever been. The QOL has gone down the sewer and the safety and well-being of the tenants who pay good money to live here, has been severely jeopardized by this vile Management.

What goes on here, from the covered-up criminal activity and the withholding of heat, should be made public. Very public. Heads should roll - and we'll start with Rick's head.

Regarding the heat (or lack thereof) situation: I've lived in a lot of different places (in NYC and other cities), and I have NEVER, EVER come across a landlord that responded to heat complaints by handing out free thermometers! This is really bizarre! They must have stocked up on thousands of these rinky-dinky little cheapies (which I doubt are very accurate) because they anticipated a lot of complaints this winter. They knew they were going to cut back on the heat. I have always had plenty of heat, but not this winter! This is a deliberate, calculated strategy that they are employing and I can't imagine what they are getting out of it. I don't believe they are saving that much money on steam, and what they save on steam they lose on electricity because so many people are buying space heaters. This is really, really bizarre behavior! They are risking fires (very expensive to a landlord, especially if people die) and the amount of bad will they are generating is really going to cost them.

Could be that they are hoping there will be a catastrophic fire and then they can tear a building (or two) down? Who knows what goes through the warped and satanic minds of the Blackstones of this world!

YES, QUITE RECENTLY THEY MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH RESIDENT SERVICES ON THE WEEKEND.

YES, EXACTLY WHEN THE WEATHER WENT DANGEROUS.

I spoke to Security a little while ago (Sunday night, the 20th of January, 2019, temperature at 19 degrees and dropping outside, with a wind chill factor of who knows what and dropping to 8 degrees? 4 degrees? 15 degrees below 0 wind chill?)

Yes, this is calculated AND ESCALATED TENANT HARASSMENT.

Security sure as hell doesn't have 60 people "patrolling" tonight. They laughed when I asked if they did.

Security told me that tonight, a DANGEROUSLY COLD NIGHT, there are probably ONE or TWO "engineers" who can give us heat for OVER 89 BUILDINGS IN OVER 8,000 APARTMENTS.

Stand Up and Fight said...

I am going to be writing a short, one-page letter describing the heating situation and asking for one person with some decency and ethics and compassion TO TURN ON THE HEAT HERE.

I will be writing to something like 25-30 people identified as involved with Blackstone Group's real estate division, based on Park Avenue.

NO, I DON'T HAVE MUCH IN THE WAY OF POSITIVE EXPECTATIONS. But, you never know until you try.

If anyone would like to join me, I'd be pleased, and encouraged. As always: e-mail me at quietenjoymentnow@gmail.com to let me know to include your name. More names will help, of course. Whether or no, I write.

They have brought the property down to the level of NYCHA. This is a deliberate, calculated plan. If we had a Tenants Association they would be up in arms about this. They are a bunch of frauds and should be ecpxposed for what they are. WE HAVE A SLUMLORD LANDLORD AND NO TENANTS ASSOCIATION. When there is a death resulting from the withholding of heat, Hayduk will disappear and have to be extradited to stand trial. Mark my words.

Wow..reading that post article about the nanny was really hard. What a horrible story. The worst part is that she doesn't stand much of a chance of getting justice considering the Seltzers political connections. I'm sure the corrupt Manhattan DA will tell the corrupt Brooklyn DA to walk it out forever and never let the case see the light of day. Her only hope is to collect as much bank as she can in a civil suit. Really sad display of the corruption in NY politics, even the NYPD is corrupt. Really sad, no wonder more people leave NY than any other state. One word answers why....CORRUPTION...from Cuomo all the way down to the police officers at the 13th precinct! If anyone cares to look on the official TA facebook and the unofficial tenants facebook, you will see so many complaints about lack of heat. Temperatures down in the low sixties - waaaay below the legal minimum. I guess Sabina Mollot never reads those pages, or this blog. Gropers at subway stations are more up her alley (so to speak).

There was a time when the Tenants Association would have taken issue with Management and organized a demonstration, not that anybody need to do that when MetLife managed the property. At least, not over heat issues.

I can't believe that Management is being allowed to get away with harming tenants in this manner. Where is Powers? Wait. He is probably on the "payroll" of Blackstone, just like the sleazy idiot who calls himself "Mayor."

The heat (or lack of heat) situation is getting worse and worse. I think we should bombard 311 with heat complaints and notify the press and, maybe, NY1. I am always seeing NY1 covering NYCHA buildings that don't have heat (and in most cases they have no hot water either), and I don't see why we should be left out in the cold (no pun intended) because we are not NYCHA. We are getting the same bad treatment by an unscrupulous landlord that is making money hand over fist and depriving us of a basic human and legal right. The Kushner buildings couldn't be much worse than this. Maybe they are all of an ilk, but I am sick of paying major bucks to these bloodsuckers to live in a freezing cold apartment and be told by some idiot in RS that I am the only one complaining and that I have to have one of their thermometers, blah blah blah.

I wonder if the Department of Consumer Affairs could be called in on this? Clearly, this despicable outfit is allowed to get away with no end of law-breaking. They say the fish rots from the head up and just look at the goon in City Hall!

Easy. This is how this species behaves. Greedy, grasping, avaricious, intent on seizing everything they can, controlling everything they can, destroying everything they can.

People who are dead inside, with no ability to feel their connection to other people and other life on Planet Earth behave like this.

I think it's one reason we have seen such an uptick in zombie movies: our species is moving ever further away from the Earth Herself and reverence for all life forms.

What kind of property did Rick manage before this? I find it very hard to believe he was in charge of a "quality" property because we really do have slum conditions here. I've lived in a bona fide slum in childhood and this is very reminiscent of those conditions. Very sad. I hope they get rid of him and hire somebody who knows how to do the job. He is probably a very nice man, but he just does not know how to run a property in the correct manner. He has reduced the desirability and, therefore, the value of this property IMO.
