Leaf Blowers - The Danger and Management Doesn't Care

As long as the leaf blowers are outside and creating noise, let me address this issue, and it is quite simple. Though Stuyvesant Town prides itself on making this place have the latest technology and freedom (or close to it) from pollutants, the fact remains that leaf blowers are a danger to the health of residents. Of course, nothing is being done about them. Yesterday I even saw a bigger leaf blower "doing its thing" and thereby also scattering humans out of the way.

Yes, there are many leaves on the ground from the trees here. But getting rid of them was not like this in the past. The effort previously was quiet and done by grounds workers with things such as rakes. (Remember those?) But now, with the use of leaf blowers, Management thinks it has found a way to do things cheaper and quicker. Your health be damned.

Leaf blowers are not energy efficient, unless the energy we are talking about is human energy. Leaf blowers blow not only leaves, but dirt, feces, etc. They pollute. Period. I myself have gotten a "taste" and a "smell" from leaf blowers nearby. And face it, a lot of the grounds people with leaf blowers are here just to do a job as quickly as possible, and collect a pay check. Again, your health be damned.

If this were the days of King Solomon (remember him, from the Bible?), I would have Management stand in front of a running leaf blower and breath in all the noxious waste and get some of that waste and dirt inside their system. But these are not the days of King Solomon....

This is a good place to start on the potential danger:

They don't care, never will.

We used to have great fun playing in the leaf pile they made as they cleaned up. Simpler times, more fun! I should add better management team also.

Management doesn't care how much harm it does to people or the environment. It is headed and staffed (managerially) by evil, life-negating poor apologies for human beings.

The noise of the leaf blowers pales in comparison to the clackety-clack of the high heels reverberating on the carpetless floor in the apartment above me.
Calls to Resident Services and the Tenants Association have been ignored.
Hey, Susan Steinberg, don't be asking me for $50 membership to the "Tenants" Association...hahaha

The amount of time it takes two workers with the machines to do playground 10 could probably get done in half the time with two workers using rakes - Sometimes it seems they stand in one place for 20 minutes - also its absurd to watch them use them on wet leaves- it just makes tons of irritating noise - leaves barely move - same with leaves on ice rink - sometimes it’s kinda funny to watch

There are lots of dead plants around that they need to remove. The grounds look like crap Rick.

We need someone who is willing to be a "ball buster" in this community. No "please" on the signs and no lack of enforcement of certain rules. It has gotten out of hand by now and will continue, if not increase. Blackstone is ignoring certain laws of the city, but they don't care. What laws? What fine?

Anonymous said...

They will continue to cater to this low life demo of students and transients because they fill the overpriced apartments. No rules or monitoring. Yes, it will get worse and worse. They choose to look the other way.

Still no heat . Sure it was 60 today but not anymore. They take advantage on days like today.

STR, you are absolutely right. The property is being subjected to "benign" neglect. It is deliberate and calculated. Hayduk is no fool. He knows EXACTLY what's happening here and he is an integral (if not THE integral) part of the plan to let the property and the quality of life deteriorate so that nobody feels comfortable and safe here. I don't know what their end plan is, but I'm pretty sure there is one! No way is Hayduk as incompetent as he pretends to be. He is a cold, cynical, lying bastard. I hate to say that, but that is the impression I have of him. I hope I am wrong, but I really don't think he cares how miserable Blackstone is making us because if he did he would stand up to them and call them on the things they do that make us unsafe, cold, miserable and ANGRY. Maybe, eventually, the ANGRY part will get through! You can only fuck with people's lives for so long before the worm turns.

4 50 I know I know I know and I can't fathom how she, the dolt above us, doesn't find it odd nor give a flying fuck all to residents below her. Losers live here now no class no manners.

Off topic....

Just did a little Google search

Mail service

Landlords are required to either provide and maintain approved mailboxes and directories of tenants, as provided by federal law and by the regulations of the post office department, or they must arrange for mail to be delivered to them, their agents, or employees for prompt distribution (per section 27-2047 of the Housing Maintenance Code).

Simpler and perhaps a bit cleaner times. Would you let your children frolick in piles of leaves which are inevitably soaked with urine and fecal matter? This is where we all live now.

I bet Blackstone Legal will look at this and say they are already in compliance per this part "as provided by federal law and by the regulations of the post office department."

In my building inside the mail boxes there is handwritten tape with the name(s) and apt # of the apartment tenants. I am assuming this was done by a USPD employee?

Since this is a Federal regulation to paraphrase that infamous TA line: "Just call Carolyn Maloney."

Followed by hysterical laughter .

But seriously, this reg is not a bad place to start to see if they are not in compliance. Good post.

So spot on.

That is very interesting. I wonder if Rick knows about this? I strongly suspect that he really doesn't care about the law, just as he doesn't care about our safety, comfort and everything else that makes life worth living in an apartment complex. Just so long as the shitty decorations are up and the s'mores are roasting .... Btw, did that s'mores event happen yet? Haven't heard any feedback about it. I wonder if it was as successful as the chips and salsa events!! LOL!!! How do they come up with all this nonsense?

I’m answer to Hayduk’s nauseating Thanksgiving memo, we are NOT GRATEFUL to you and Blackstone for depriving us of adequate heat. The memo was sickening.

Anonymous said...

Slick Rick’s Thanksgiving message went beyond sickening this year. He may be grateful for the “caring” management and community but I am not. No heat, dorm dumps, transient crap. He goes beyond phony BS.

Anonymous said...

Yeh, Hayduk I am really grateful for the 68 degree heat I get . I walk into a small ice cream shop and I get more heat. A real BS artist he is.

Anonymous said...

What a joke Hayduk’s Thanksgiving message is. Level of care by everyone in Beam living? What care? Where is the heat and the curbs on noise and pot? My floor smells like a pot den every morning thanks to the bros on the floor. How dare he put out a message so false and misleading.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I never get messages from Rick or Property Services, and I put my name in twice to get those messages.

Anonymous said...

Be happy you don’t get them. They are such BS.

My Thanksgiving message you Hayduk and Beam Living:

I am grateful for many things but not for:

Lack of heat in my apartment, freezing when I arise in the morning
The loud concerts and movies that disturb me
The lousy bro’s who stink the building up with pot
The dirty mattresses and trash in the loops
The dump this property has become

And you can keep your s’more roasts and cheese/crackers events.
Happy Thanksgiving

That Thanksgiving email made me cringe. Rick really is a vindictive cold hearted SOB and I have no doubt that karma will certainly come and bite him in the ass in due time.

Here’s Rick’s revolting Thanksgiving message. STR, if you’re not already doing it, since you say management knows who you are, you may need to use a fake name to sign up for their emails:

Dear Residents,

As you take the next few days to take a moment and give thanks, we'd like to do the same.

So often we tend to focus on the negative and not the positive, of which the day-to-day, the mundane would fall into this category as well. There's so much good around us and we thought this Thanksgiving Reflection might serve as a humble reminder, starting with me and our team, to look for the good as we go into the holiday season.

To start, I am grateful for the talented, hardworking, incredible human beings I get to spend every day with at StuyTown Property Services and Beam Living. The level of care for the residents, the property, our community and each other, never ceases to amaze me.

We are grateful for living in the greatest city in the world, protected by the NYPD and FDNY.

We are grateful for current servicemen and women and all veterans who served such that we can enjoy our lives today.

We are grateful for all the educators who are inspiring the next generation to dream big and take on the world.

We are grateful for every employee of the MTA, who get us from here to there, safely.

We are grateful for all those who work for the city of New York, who are keeping us safe and providing services; the DOB, HPD, HDC and NYCHA to name a few, but we'd like to single out our friends in the Mayor's Office of Sustainability who are especially driving the narrative on energy and the environment.

We are grateful for the construction workers who create, build and improve.

We are grateful to our friends at conEdison who provide us with electricity and heat in our homes.

We are grateful for the DSNY who remove our waste, organics and keep our streets clear of snow and ice.

We are grateful for the United States Postal Service who brave the elements to ensure our mail and packages arrive on time over the busy holiday season.

We are grateful for our neighborhood healthcare providers; Mount Sinai Doctors, Mount Sinai, Beth Israel, Bellevue, the VA Hospital, the independent physicians and dentists and NYU, who are there for us when we're not well.

We are grateful for our neighborhood merchants who support our lifestyles with coffee, food, dry cleaning and even bicycles.

We are grateful for our neighborhood places of worship that share the belief that there is a higher purpose and to love thy neighbor.

And lastly, we are grateful for our amazing residents who help cultivate an incredible sense of community at StuyTown and Peter Cooper Village.

From all of us at StuyTown Property Services and Beam Living, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving STR. I hope you and your loved ones have a very, very joyful holiday and I hope your apartment has some heat! Mine doesn't!

Anonymous said...

The part that really got me was that we should be thankful to Con Edison for heat. Hayduk and his bosses make sure we don’t get much of it. Hypocritical phony.

Anonymous said...

Not sure what these simpletons who complain about heat on the TA site expect from the bogus TA. Do they expect Peter Stuyvesant to give them a tour of the heating plant? Don’t they realize that they are complaining to a vacuum.

Anonymous said...

Heat was short lived. Couldn’t even provide it on a holiday.

Anonymous said...

At least sitting by the fire pit could be warmer than our apartments.

Anonymous said...

Again, did someone post the link about Hayduk's side-venture somewhere in the south on the TA fb page, along with Adam Rose's comment? I thought I saw it there, but now it's gone. We know the TA does Rick's bidding and maybe he didn't approve.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

We are starting to get far afield from giving thanks for living here. I can't let some of the more "rigorous" comments through. I hope you understand that, but I do read them.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

And if you have problem, don't forget: Call Rick!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I was just at the TA Facebook page and read this from one of its members:

>>I am grateful for ST-PCV TA for providing a forum to share neighborhood interests and concerns. I am also grateful to all those who participate in this group which turns a neighborhood into a family.<<

They say that laughter is good for the soul.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

BTW, the puke comment was in response to Rick's message. Well, it is feedback....

Anonymous said...

That was funny.

Anonymous said...

STR, I didn't see that post. Can't believe anybody would write such drivel. Lately it seems that Peter Stuyvesant is posting the same "notices" over and over and the same stupid gifs over and over. Maybe they are experiencing technical problems.

Some crank was complaining that the staff at Associated were rude to her and she was looking for some spice they are out of. For pity's sake! Those people are facing unemployment right before Christmas and many of them work there as well as have second and third jobs to keep food on the table. I don't blame them if they are a bit abrupt or "indifferent" at this time. I have ALWAYS found the employees at Associated to be pleasant and helpful. Many have said they are tired. Bone tired. They are doing the work of the employees who were already let go and many are feeling very depressed. Some of them have said that the owners of Associated never show the slightest concern for them or even give them a "thank you" for their service. Some of them have been there since the store opened.

I hope they put in a new grocery store of some kind because it's a long walk to other reasonably priced stores and Target is a Dead Zone! I can't understand how it stays open. I just hope they do not put in a gym or anything other than a grocery outlet.

My comment and link to the newspaper article on Rick Hayduk side venture in Clemson, South Carolina are still there. Look under the noisy, upstairs neighbor post by Luigi Canepa on November 20 at 7:58 PM

Here’s what I said:
Could running this socially-conscious hotel (or the hoped for group of hotels) be Rick Hayduk’s next job? Unfortunately for him, all the good he is doing in Clemson, South Carolina doesn’t make up for all the bad, all the harm, that he has done and continues to do to the people living here.

I don't see Rick's message on the TA FB. Maybe they removed it because it is so phony? Even the TA must have its limits on how much bullshit it can take.

I wish they'd stop congratulating themselves on getting the names back in the directories on an Opt-IN basis. They did nothing. I think it was the push-back from tenants who did this and it is NOT enough. The names are not in any directories on the intercoms and it is the time of year when we are getting loads of deliveries and mail. This has to be the most backward, regressive and mean-minded "management" of any apartment complex in the City. Even CWC and Tishman Speyer weren't this bad.

Anonymous said...

45 degrees and windy and no heat. I hate this place and hope Rick and all the rest of the management team have a rotten Thanksgiving. Being cold takes all the joy and desire to live out of many of us.

Anonymous said...

Went to Dagastino to shop today. Have to say that the experience was so much more pleasant than Associated. The cost was about 5-10 dollars higher but I was able to get everything I wanted. I will miss the convenience of Associated but that is about it. It is great to have a supermarket so close when you live near 14th St but I will get used to going further. I resent the fact that Associated knew they had a monopoly here and in twenty years never made the store shopper friendly. Dirty, aisles clogged with boxes and hazards and lack of stock. I hope they put another supermarket there for less mobile seniors but I doubt they will.

I don't see Rick's message on the the TA's Facebook.

BTW, the picture of the woman on the TA Facebook page, and under the "we are family" post, looks like her screaming in pain. At first I thought it was a negative post, something about lack of heat....

Anonymous said...

I had heat on and off but not enough to make it comfortable. Can’t even give us enough wheat on a holiday.

Anonymous said...

@5:59 PM: 5-10 dollars is a lot to some people. It can mean the difference between having enough to eat or not.

Glad you like D'Ags and don't mind the schlep there as well as the extra dollars. I perceive you as a very whiney, self-centered person. I'm glad that most of the people I meet here are not like you.

That's exactly what I thought! It is a very bizarre post!

That guy who is favorable towards management likely has heat. Another cheerleader. How he can call this a family or community is beyond me.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>Glad you like D'Ags and don't mind the schlep there as well as the extra dollars.<<

A few, and just a few, prices are reasonable, like milk. But other prices are too high...for me. Looks nice in the interior. And the seating in the corner. But I can't buy there, even though the walk is about the same for me as for Associated. When Associated closes, I have to decide where to go for my main store. And, sorry, certainly not down to Ave C and 12 Street or lower. That's a walk.

Anonymous said...

You don’t know me. I would rather do my shopping at a store in which I can easily maneuver through the aisles and get what I want . I perceive you to be assuming a lot and do not know what your agenda is. Likely TA cheerleader.

Anonymous said...

That is the issue. Dags at least is walkable with a cart. Although 6:47 believes that people who shop there are whiny and bad. Will be happy when Trader Joe opens.

Anonymous said...

Where are you coming from! People shop where they want to shop and what is reasonable for them. Does not make them self centered and whiny. There is not much of a choice right now. I perceive you as being rather jealous and petty.

Anonymous said...

Sorry you have to get personal and happy that you meet people you like here on this property. May you get another store like Associated but cleaner and better stocked.

Anonymous said...

STR, you speak about going to Gracefully a lot. I thought that their prices were quite high too.

Anonymous said...

May I have some heat, O'Kind Sir, Master Rick?
Please.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>STR, you speak about going to Gracefully a lot. I thought that their prices were quite high too.<<

Their prices are high. But they have a nice large window where you can sit and have a nice, but high-priced, coffee in the morning. And the lunch from the lunch bar can be not as costly as one would think if you make sure to get things that do not add significant weight and increase the price. And I like the cashiers, which are different than the ice-cold ones at the other Gracefully on 23rd.

All he needs are a few Instagram “influencers” who tout his events, and that’s the equivalent to thousands of people liking the events, which makes them look like successes. It doesn’t matter that 100 out of 30,000 tenants attended, it only matters what the appearances are.

He knows college students (the primary demo here) do not care about these events, but if a few college student influencers post about them then their followers will respond how cool this place is.

Ebeneezer Hayduk did provide us with a bit more heat today, but it has gone away this evening . Please sire, some more.

This Hayduk idiot is an answer to my prayer! Over a year ago I moved out of an un-renovated apartment and have been renting it out on AirBnB (Hate me. I don't care). Now that there are no directories or names on doors, I can finally sublet it to a couple who are willing to pay twice the rent. Half for Sty and half or me. It was dicey before, but now there is total anonymity as to who lives here and who doesn't, it is a total doddle.

Anonymous said...

Whether indigenous, transplanted or whatever you are, you are all subject to the whim of Hayduk. The "man" has no spinal column or he would realize how tenants are being treated by His Satanic Majesty, Blackstone. Satan sent this person to sow discord and discontent by turning our lives upside down with his stupid "directory" issues, the insultingly untalented and amateurish live shows and the crappy tenth-rate, juvenile movies on the Oval. Poor Oval. Once such a proud oasis in the city with your beautiful shade trees that oxygenated the air and soothed the soul with their whispers in the wind.

Well, all I can say is have the utmost contempt and hatred for Management, the Tenants Association and the spineless, opportunistic politicians who claim to represent us.

GO TO HELL, ALL OF YOU!

Anonymous said...

I echo those sentiments.

I too have the utmost contempt for this TA and management. As I smelled the pot rising into my apartment from another new dorm group I thought about how this property has become a transient slum.
