Relax (at least once in a while)

Sunny now. Even the rain looks and feels nice.

Update #2, June 6:

Beam Living, Stuy Town Management (constantly addressing residents as little children in "woke" phraseology),
our local politicians to include our Mayor (by far the worst NYC mayor I have seen in my lifetime) and, yes, our Governor:

CHUMPS

--------------

New July 1

Impeach Mayor Bill de Blasio

Link above goes to Change.org site.

This idiot must go.

(150,000 signatures have been reached. Now the site is going for 200,000!)

Newest update, July 6th:

Mayor de Blasio's Accomplishments

------------

New from the NYC Official Site! Posted 8/6

------------

Mayor de Blasio has no plan for indoor dining

 ------------

Governor Cuomo begs New Yorkers to come back. He will even cook for you!

Keith Powers, Our City Council Person.

Votes for Police De-funding and the "progressive" issues that are making this city more and more unlivable. Was a lobbyist for Real Estate in his pre-council win. Never does anything about the quality-of-life violations and (some city ones) he has to see in his own community.

If you are satisfied with what you see in the city (dramatic increase in crime, homelessness, garbage), cheer him on!

 -----

Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village Tenants Association

Not transparent at all.

This organization has so far refused to give the number of paying dues members, pre-virus, despite receiving from our city councilman $30,000 last year and receiving membership fees. They claim they are the largest tenants association in the nation, but are very secretive about membership numbers and where the money they receive is allocated. No tenant organization that I know of is so secretive. Very simple request: Open up the books.

Update 6/18/2020:

This is priceless and tells much about people jumping the gun big time--something that is occurring more these days, as people are ready to damn someone before the full facts are known.... So, I am searching the internet and come across a couple of photos that look very familiar. One is exactly what I posted in November, applying it to a fake interview. Well, I got damned by a Stuy Town reader who felt I was making fun of the pain and suffering this person on the photo felt. I tried to find the post, but I may have not passed it. But I discovered the reality today. The photo, one of at least two, shows an Asian girl opening her mouth to try to catch the snow that's falling down. That's it. No pain, no suffering, just a kid playing. A good lesson to be careful before one jumps the gun.

A big sign is coming up at the Oval. But will Rick get down on his knees?

Anonymous said...

What are you talking about, STR?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

There is a sign on the Oval, near the fountain. Workers put up boards, and the sign will come, unless there was a re-think, then the boards will come down. Getting down on the knees, at least one knee, is a sign that one supports the protestors, etc.

Anonymous said...

Rick's/Bean Living's protester PR/spin is such BS because his boss, Blackstone CEO Stephen A. Schwarzman, is a huge Trump supporter and BFF. I know this blog skews right wing but you cannot deny the hypocrisy of Rick and his team for the protest issue, gay rights, the environment, affordable housing, etc. One face for the clueless rubes, another face for behind the scenes.

Skews? Not really. I am not "bending at the knee," though. And this blog is VERY critical of the way certain things are run in this place. If I were friends with Schwarzman, I would just follow the "rules" and keep my mouth shut.

Anonymous said...

I doubt that Rick has ever met Stephen Schwarzman. Rick is just an employee who gets a paycheck. I have worked for companies headed by vile people. I needed the paycheck. We all need a paycheck and can't always choose between the saints and sinners when seeking employment.

Anonymous said...

STR: If you were friends with Schwarzman, I'd try to be YOUR best friend, since he is so wealthy. This is humor, to clarify.

Anonymous said...

I am getting sick of Hayduk’s long winded and phony e-mail statements on the current state of things. Shut up and stop trying to impress us. Enforce the rules here.

Anonymous said...

"I doubt that Rick has ever met Stephen Schwarzman."

4.36 PM here. Are you kidding me? STPCV is the crown jewel, the most famous of any of Blackstone's real estate holdings. Rick, the CEO, got a NY Daily news Op-Ed to respond to Pete Harrison's NY Daily News Op-Ed. You don't think that Schwarzman did't go over his response with him personally? Of course they have met. And a lot more than once.

"I am not "bending at the knee,"

4.36 PM here. Sorry, you don't get it. Do you really think that Rick and his Blackstone minions actually believe in ANY progressive issues? This is all Potemkin Village crap. And sorry, of course this blogs skews right. There were many Trump supporters who posted here just after the election. Yes, everyone hates Blackstone. But many posters here also hate Epstein and Holyman, who both worked very hard to get the 2019 rent reform bill passed. I guess it's just "owning the libs". Yes, the libs, who without them, there would not be any residential NYS/NYC rent regulations at all.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Hmm, I guess you know better what I think than I do.

4.36 PM here again. Today, I went into the Oval PS Command Center and asked a senior officer what this black partition wall was all about that was set up the south side of the Oval Fountain area. He told me that is was the sign that used to cover up the entrance to Playground 10, now open after the Ice Rink stuff was removed. The same sign has now been re-located to the Oval Fountain area. It's the sign that lights up at night giving some sort of thank you. It's not anything new. My opinion? It was a piece of crap at it's original location, it's even more of a piece of tacky crap at the Oval Fountain area since it ruins the aesthetics of the Fountain area. They are fucking clueless.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Thanks. That sign is totally unnecessary and for sure obnoxious.

Anonymous said...

Rick has absolutely ZERO taste or sense of esthetics! He really is a fairground/resort guy. He and his tacky crew mean well (I think), but they have ruined the one place that really was an Oasis in The City.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Their primary goal is to sell apartments--at a high price, of course. A lot of other things are just BS stuff. But some residents believe the BS, as do some potential renters.

Anonymous said...

Talk about renters, the 5 room on my floor has a revolving door of frat boys and roomies. Every month it changes. New people that I have never seen. About 5 in residence at a time. That is how Hayduk rents apartment. These apartments are becoming dorms and rooming houses.

I saw that sign this afternoon and I actually thought it said 'BUM' then I realized it was 'BLM'. What a terrible looking sign. That's the best management could do??? I guess so!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I thought it was a clock at first. I'm not joking that I wouldn't be surprised to see Rick get down on his knees and beg forgiveness for the white race. Meanwhile, in reality, there is very little black resident presence here. The truth is that this is mostly a white community, with a bunch of Asians thrown in.... And that Peter Cooper gate at the corner is meant to bar Puerto Ricans who use the Asser Levy pool during the summer.

Anonymous said...

Becoming???????????

Where you been?

Anonymous said...

This property is a long history of racial discrimination, which spans from its inception until today, no matter what these Beam Living fools say. They have done absolutely nothing to further promote a racially diverse community, and this property is as white as it was in 1970.

With that being said, the masses will probably be demanding the demolition of this property due to its checkered past. May be just the excuse Blackstone needs to do just that and raze this place.

Anonymous said...

It's been a dorm for almost 20 years now. BTW:

"New people that I have never seen. About 5 in residence at a time."

Illegal under NYC law. This applies to all NYC apartments, whether they are under rent regs or not. The max # of non related adults living in an apartment is 3. Report Beam Living via 311 and then research which current NYC Department to make a direct complaint to. This article is from 2010.

When TS and CW owned the place it was even worse than it is now. It was filled with unsupervised undergrads who behaved atrociously. I think it was a way of driving longterm tenants out - a form of harassment. I think it has become slightly better of late, but maybe that's because of the Coronavirus and shut-down. I often hear Bros and the female counterparts screaming, braying and vomiting as they stagger their way home, especially on weekends, but it's not as bad as it used to be. They will probably all come back in the Fall. I could almost wish for the virus to continue indefinitely just for the sake of the quietness.

For what they ask in rent for these beaten-up 1940s apartments (notwithstanding the cheap tacky "renovations" with their low-end appliances), they are not going to attract either responsible, adult professional people or families. They can only attract the parentally-funded shit who have revolving door roommates, bffs, overnighters, etc.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I don't have that perspective, as I see I lot of current families that are renting here. Yes, there are many young professionals and college kids. And they will remain, despite the turnover.

There are reasons to rent here for the families. For one, the local school is free and mostly (I hate to say this, but it is true) white. I'm not making a value judgement, but that's the way it is.

But I think this place is run rather terribly for certain things. There is no excuse for the breaking of the quality of life rules of this place (before the virus). But it happens every time I walk out the door. It is not a resident's purpose to report these infractions. People are getting paid to do their job and they are not fully doing it. Maybe, just maybe, Blackstone and Management does not want to come down hard on these rules being broken because they don't want to break any golden egg, which is money.

Anonymous said...

I disagree that it was worse then. The student population in my building has increased tremendously. No comparison. My building is over 60 percent roomies and students. I do like the quiet now that they are gone.

Anonymous said...

I disagree about the families renting. Not in my building. My building is mainly roomies, students, and city subsidized. Many families that you are around here are short term residents. Several speak other languages and are likely sent here from corporations in their home country. If families do move in , they stay one year and then leave. Hardly any children in my building anymore.

Just saw the latest email from Hayduk. Why is he trying to be our conscience organizer? I feel like emailing him back that while it is very true that Black Lives Matter, as Manager of this place he should remember that Heat in Winter Matters. Peace and Quiet Matters. Such a sanctimonious jerk.

Anonymous said...

OK, the latest email from our overlord.

He wants all lights in the complex turned off for 8 minutes and 46 seconds at nine o'clock tomorrow night. I wonder if he is planning on turning off all of the pathway lights and the cameras at the same time?

Anonymous said...

It seems Beam Living is outsourcing rent payments because the website shows other buildings (not Sty) being serviced. I pay my rent automatically every month via click pay straight from the bank account. If they fuck with that, I will go back to paying by check.

Glossy notice under the door. Fuck off, Rick! Sick of this self-righteous prig telling us what to do. Try doing your job, Rick. The job you are handsomely paid for. Start with making sure that only bona fide renters are occupying the apartments, instructing your PS people to enforce the rules and - very important this one - make sure we get sufficient heat in winter. You work for one of the vilest most exploitive assholes on the face of the earth. A "man" who makes big donations to the most racist and divisive President we've had in modern history. Stop treating us like we are stupid morons who live in a cloud of blissful ignorance to what you really are all about.

You have just about overplayed your hand at this point.

This notice business is absolutely sickening. Hayduk needs to stop with the politically correct PR and enforce rules here along with giving residents heat. He is contemptible. Enough already with his phony crap.

If this guy focused more on doing the job he's paid to do, which is manage the property, we would all be happier. He thinks he's our "Leader." The Great White Chief (or something like that). Just take care of running the property (and there is a lot of room for improvement) and stop trying to control and manipulate our social consciences. We don't need you for that and you are out of your depth because some of us question your ideals and values.

Anyone can enter the 14th Street loop via Ave A. And any car service can you pick you up or drop you off on 14th Street. 14th is not a "bus-only street". Cars are redistricted but not banned.

I think Rick is trying to do good. No harm in that and nobody actually has to dim their lights if they don't want to. There will probably be a lot of people who won't know about it or won't think about it. He's just making a suggestion. Nobody has to do anything they don't want to do.

Rick, just focus on keeping the lights on and the elevators running and stop trying to put a face of respectability, decency and compassion on the face of Blackstone. That is like trying to make Hitler look like Mother Teresa.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>He's just making a suggestion. Nobody has to do anything they don't want to do.<<

Well, yes, you don't have to do anything. But, for some, it will be difficult not to "go along," even if they don't want to. Anyway, Rick has no business being the "consciousness" of Stuy Town and its residents. Already the BLM is a political football. And Blackstone? Here and across the world??? Hayduk thinks that just because residents vote a certain way that he can go along with flying colors. All he is required is to run the property efficiently.

I think everyone should stop referring to Mr. Hayduk as “Rick”.

This was on the TA Facebook Page and it is making me wonder if Rick is a Preacher/Teacher/Clergyman .....? I actually think he has a bit of a nerve talking to us like we are in his congregation/classroom. I think he should just do the job he's being paid to do and should try to do it better than he has been doing it. Does he know that being a Property Manager means managing a property and not trying to manage our morals or save our souls? His job is to run the property in the best way he can to ensure that we feel safe and comfortable in our homes. We don't want or need his moral guidance. Thank You!

From Rick:
"I'd like to let you know that we're planning a "blackout" on Tuesday night at 9pm in recognition of the events of the past two weeks. Via social media, we'll be encouraging residents to turn out their apartment lights for 8 minutes and 46 seconds and to use the time to reflect on the conversation of the day. In addition, we've posted some resources on the stuytown.com site on the subject and we'll provide the link in our correspondence."

He is saying BLM is anti-semantic. And RH supports BLM. He is not saying that RH himself is anti-semantic. Not agreeing with his point of view since it can be debated whether the current BLM is antisemitic. One can be against the current government of Israel (may Israelis are) and not be anti-semantic.

These people that I'm thinking about in Europe were white. "Privilege"?

I'm sick of the bullshit some people post on the TA fb page and the non-TA fb page.

There are a lot of African Americans living here, as well as people from the Caribbean. I've been here for over 40 years and, although there didn't used to be many Black people here at the beginning of my tenancy, there certainly has been since. Some have been here for decades, some have been here not so long.

They don't turn away Black people. Maybe Black people who can afford the rents here just go find somewhere better. This is not the place it used to be when Black people were not allowed to live here. It hasn't been that way for ages. There used to be quite a few Black people living here, but they gradually moved out - as in "MOVING ON UP!" They were not driven out.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I don't see a lot of African Americans living here. It is a white community mainly, with a noticeable Asian contingent. That said, our landlord is interested in money, which is rentals. If you have the money, you can have an apartment here.

Anonymous said...

I agree, I do not have a single African American living in my building and it has been a while since there has been one. I’d say the African-American population of the property is somewhere around 1%, or about 300 people in a population of 30,000.

No matter how you cut it, that number is still larger than the total number of paying members associated with our sham TA!

Anonymous said...

Do I understand this correctly? The StuyTown Mom's are going to hold a black live matter rally at the fountain on Saturday?

What a bunch of self-absorbed, self-righteous nitwits.

Anonymous said...

It is impossible to even give an ethnic or racial makeup in this non community. Over half students and transients. Students overwhelmingly Asian and transients all ethnicities and races. I do see a fair representation of African Americans living here.

Anonymous said...

So ridiculous that people can even talk about racial discrimination here. This is a transient dorm non community. The management does not even know who resides here. One apartment on my floor is a revolving door. Probably more Asians among student population but there is no racial divide here because there is not a stable demo.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It's so ridiculous, even laughable if one is in the mood. And Peter Stuyvesant (the man himself) had very strong feelings that maybe our hypocritical protesters don't know about. Destroy his statue! Rename anything, including Stuyvesant Town, that has his name on it!

From Wiki:

In 1657, Stuyvesant, who did not tolerate full religious freedom in the colony, and was strongly committed to the supremacy of the Dutch Reformed Church, refused to allow Lutherans the right to organize a church. When he also issued an ordinance forbidding them from worshiping in their own homes, the directors of the Dutch West Indies Company, three of whom were Lutherans, told him to rescind the order and allow private gatherings of Lutherans.

Freedom of religion was further tested when Stuyvesant refused to allow the permanent settlement of Jewish refugees from Dutch Brazil in New Amsterdam (without passports), and join the handful of existing Jewish traders (with passports from Amsterdam). Stuyvesant attempted to have Jews "in a friendly way to depart" the colony. As he wrote to the Amsterdam Chamber of the Dutch West India Company in 1654, he hoped that "the deceitful race, — such hateful enemies and blasphemers of the name of Christ, — be not allowed to further infect and trouble this new colony." He referred to Jews as a "repugnant race" and "usurers", and was concerned that "Jewish settlers should not be granted the same liberties enjoyed by Jews in Holland, lest members of other persecuted minority groups, such as Roman Catholics, be attracted to the colony."

Stuyvesant's decision was again rescinded after pressure from the directors of the Company. As a result, Jewish immigrants were allowed to stay in the colony as long as their community was self-supporting, however, Stuyvesant and the company would not allow them to build a synagogue, forcing them to worship instead in a private house.

In 1657, the Quakers, who were newly arrived in the colony, drew his attention. He ordered the public torture of Robert Hodgson, a 23-year-old Quaker convert who had become an influential preacher. Stuyvesant then made an ordinance, punishable by fine and imprisonment, against anyone found guilty of harboring Quakers.

There are several African Americans living in my building. Some are older, longtime tenants and some are new. True, there are more White and Asian people in the building and there are several hispanic families. However, the majority of the people living here now are transients and students and they are mostly White and Asian. This is NOT a community at this point; it is a revolving door dorm/short-stay hotel.

Personally, I don't care who lives here so long as they don't bother me. They're not paying my rent and I'm not paying theirs.

Anonymous said...

I don't care about the history of the Sty or of Peter Stuyvesant. That was so long ago that I don't think it's relevant today. I don't think there is any racial profiling or discrimination here at this point. If there is, then it comes from the Renting Office and I don't think they care who lives here so long as they can pay the exorbitant rents they are now asking. Most of the current population is self-absorbed students and young professionals in their twenties and early thirties. They come and go.

The entire United States of America has a racist history. It was stolen from the indigenous people and built by slave labor. After Slavery was abolished it continued to be built on the backs of poor Blacks and poverty-stricken immigrants from all over the world. The North West was built by Chinese slaves who were treated abominably.

We need to get past all the analysis of what was and focus on what is. It has been both the Land of Opportunity and the Land of Human Slavery. The Slavery has been abolished and it is no longer the Land of Opportunity (never has been for Black Americans). Let's make America great, but NOT the Trump version of that sentiment! Definitely NOT the Trump version of anything!

Funny how everyone, aside from the original slaves, wants to come over here.

Funny how a war was fought so that all people could be free. Not saying that there was no push-back from others, but that is American law.

Funny how many of us were either not born here or come from ancestors who speak well of this country.

Funny how some of us enlist or enlisted to become better citizens and will not spit upon this country.

Funny how some of us think more of our own important personal, family and/or medical issues than shaming others or screaming about an agenda.

Yeah, funny, but not in the laugh sense.

No push back from others? Have you been living under a rock? As a vet, I am surprised you really don't know the history here of Jim Crow, the Civil Rights movement, lynching etc. How "driving while black" can be a death sentence even now?

"Funny how some of us enlist or enlisted to become better citizens and will not spit upon this country."

Again, as a vet who served, do not you know the history of black people serving this country from even before the Civil War util now. The segregation there were forced to endure until Truman desegregated the armed services? BTW, my family and my wife's family have a long combat service record that includes current service members. WW II, Korea, VietNam and Afghanistan.

"will not spit upon this country."

There are assholes on the left. And on the right. Waving the Confederate flag is spitting on our country. Do you not agree?

Depends on the person. For all I know someone's ancestor served or died in that war, and the person is just respecting that, not slavery.

Did you read my statement? "Not saying that there was no push-back from others...."

Yes, I am aware, and more than aware of a real personal experience of having served and the people who did serve. White, blacks, American Indians....

This says it all. You really do not have a clue. Have you ever read each Southern State's proclamation of succession? Is your next line going to be it was not the Civil War but the "War of Northern Aggression"? This line of yours is what the white supremacists and the Trump mouthpieces say all the time. They always say that the Confederate flag is not about slavery, it's about "heritage". Davis and the rest of them were traitors. Are German background people here allowed to wave the Nazi flag? After all, "someone's ancestor served or died in that war". You can admire Lee and some other Southern Generals for their military prowess. Like one can admire Rommel for that. But again, they were all traitors. Even NASCAR is now on board. NASCAR for God's sake! But you're not. So much for your spit post.

Oh, sorry I didn't answer the question the way you wanted it to be answered. A little more human and humane feeling from you would be nice, but you just want to voice loudly about your (actually, not yours) agenda. Sorry, again. Soldiers on different sides suffer pain and death. Civilians, too.

My "agenda" is not BLM or Blackstone's. I was responding to your rather broad take on the state of US racial relations. BTW, I am second generation. I'll put my family's military service record up against anyone's including yours. Your Archie Bunker/Trump take seems to be America, love it or leave it. Well, I love it and so do many who are not happy with the current situation here.

"Sorry, again. Soldiers on different sides suffer pain and death. Civilians, too."

What does this mean? Is this another defense of the Confederate battle flag? I will repeat. Your heritage defense is used all the time by white supremacists. You are not one. So why use it? This was from NASCAR:

"The presence of the confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors, and our industry," the statement said."

Thank you for your service and good bye.

Anonymous said...

It is called "The Civil War" here, since the North triumphed in battle, but the Confederates NEVER wanted to take over the government of the USA. They wanted to SECEDE from the country, and form their own. This is an important distinction that most people don't understand. War Between The States is definitely more accurate, from a purely semantic point of view. (History Major in College)

Enslavement of people is not particular to America. It's existed all over the world for thousands of years. Human beings love to control and subjugate other humans.

Now some people want to tear down the statue of Columbus in Central Park. Early presidents were slaveholders. Should we remove all statues of them? George Washington was a slaveholder. Should we tear down the Washington monument? What about the $1 bill? Should we replace him on the $1 bill. See where this is going.....

Oh, you have an agenda, for sure. It comes out of every pore. Very visible.... I never said "love it or leave it," but it can be a good suggestion. Hmm, where to go? ... I don't want to play the "my military service (or my ancestors) is bigger than yours," which you instantly want to do, irregardless of my service or the service of my ancestors. Telling.... You use "white supremacists" when you don't agree with someone. Either that, or, I guess, if the person is black, "Uncle Tom." .... And do I give a damn about NASCAR?.... Yeah, I have your number.... Oh, and thank you for the thanks about my service. It really was nothing, but that is another story....

No, I believe the stopper PREVENTS you from opening up the window farther. If they have these, they don’t need window guards, they don’t open far enough for a child to fall out. Saves mismanagement the hassle of installing and removing the bars. Of course, if you want to get some fresh air flowing through your apartment... not so good.

Could we please stop the civil war, world wars, etc. posting?

BigMo was on the right track. I'll expand it: the human species is destructive and injurious to the Earth, all of her creatures and the sky, and everything it can ever come into contact with, including other planets and objects out in what we call "space."

Beginning and end of story.

That having been written, it is also true that in nearly all cultures, WOMEN have been grievously hurt, used, raped, enslaved, tormented. No matter the country, time period, socio-economic class, so-called race: women have suffered, and continue to suffer horrendously. I hasten to add that I hold no brief for modern women. Many of them, especially if they have any money, can outdo the men in objectionable behaviors. The "feminism" of today is a distorted and damaging phenomenon. (Full disclosure: this is a woman writing this, a woman saddened and sickened and disgusted by what the younger women have become, for I spent quite a number of years fighting for women's rights.)

In the final analysis, we, as a species, are absolutely full of it. We are not superior.
Our intellects decidedly do NOT determine how we behave.

We are mammals, which dictates much of our behaviors.

And the chemicals/hormones and emotions which we believe we've triumphed over with our big brains are what run us. Territory, reproduction (of the species, not the individual except as a member of the species), fear, the woundings and neglects we suffered as infants and youngsters in our families live inside of us and inform how we think, feel and behave.

It is a very rare person of either sex, or any age, who has spent years discovering who and WHAT s/he truly is. We flatter ourselves with utter rubbish and idiocy about our superiority.

If we lived as do all of the other forms of life on the planet, we would be in harmony with them, instead of manipulating, tormenting and destroying them (which is what we excel at in most instances.) I don't know that we were ever a species of benefit to the planet and her children. Supposedly, "native" populations, and people who didn't and don't live with the crap we've invented and manufactured, were less harmful to the Earth. The murder, rape, and torture, though, seem to be inherent in the species, and studies of some of the other primates have revealed them to have the same proclivities.

Skin color, language, age, ancestors or "countries" (a man-concocted fiction, as is most of what we accept as "life") - it matters little - we ain't much good for ourselves, each other, or anything else on or off planet.

Which does not prevent me from feeling pain and sympathy for my fellow humans. So, for pity's sake, stop hurting each other.

OMG! I can't stand it any more! There's some old guy on the TA and not TA fb going on and on and on and on about how BLM is anti-Israel; another guy is going on about Peter Stuyvesant and others. Who the Hell gives a fuck these days about these old, long-dead characters who, rightly or wrongly, affected, for better or worse, the course of history and did a lot of damage to a lot of people when they were around. They're gone. Dead. Gone. Forget about them.

This guy complains about BLM's anti-Israel stance, but has he ever taken off his rose-colored glasses and looked at the horrors that Israel has inflicted on the Palestinians? Israel is not pure of sin in any way whatsoever and really has carried out strategies designed to take land they are not entitled to and annihilate anyone who gets in its way.

Take the rose-colored glasses off folks and see the rotten world we live in as it really is.

As for Rick with all his "christian" rhetoric: You mean well, Ricky boy, but you work for one of the most evil and without-consciences people in the world today.

This is to be followed by 10 minutes of silence to mourn the 10% rent increase they hope to get and which they feel so rightly deserved.
Of course, Rick's Elmer Gantry-like sermons will NOT take place on Sunday mornings because then there would be no room for the Covid-spreading GreenMarket.

Send up heat in the winter and maintain the property!
How simple is that!

We have to fill out a form every year (or when a lease is renewed) stating whether or not we want window guards.

Yes, everyone does - it’s NYC law. And if you need them, they will install stoppers instead. By installing those, they are in compliance with the law. And it’s a little device that’s quick and easy to install and remove, window bars are definitely not. Only problem is you can only crack your window open a few inches.

So, saves time and money for management, at tenants’ expense. Surprised?

The data is pretty clear that masks prevent you from infecting others and obviously the reverse is true. This to the extent of 50 to 75 percent. Look at Asia. Don’t know what all the doubt is about. That is why we have raging epidemics in some states. They are not wearing masks and social distancing. Here in the Sty it is often impossible to social distance, do hence the mask.I don’t know where people are hearing conflicting reports. No, it isn’t foolproof but it helps.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The conflicting reports are based on testing. The more tests, the greater the percentage of people who have the virus. As far as I understand, this testing in now mandatory to anyone entering a hospital, irregardless of why they go there. They are tested for the virus.

Re mask compliance, my observation is 90% are wearing face masks walking on footpaths on the property. I take 4 walks a day with my dog. This is what I see. I’m glad for the high mask compliance .... I wish the external doors were still propped open. Having them closed now increases everyone’s contact with high touch areas exponentially.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

We know that certain states that are opening up can have people going to the hospital for non-virus reasons whereas before they were prevented. Once they are in the hospital, they are tested for the virus. Hence the spike.

Anonymous said...

Not necessarily. They are weighing the effect of more testing and some states are also having spikes. Texas, SC and others.

Anonymous said...

Are you trying to say that there is not serious spikes going on in the South and West? The numbers keep climbing and it is not just from testing.

Anonymous said...

The Window Stoppers must be something new. I am in an unrenovated apartment and can open the window wide enough for a child to fall out. I take 4 walks a day with my dog.

You don’t see that’s a problem right there? Four walks a day times the thousand plus dogs living here equals overcrowding. Nowhere else in the city do I see so many dogs. Walk around the grounds (aka dog toilet), and you’ll pass another person walking a dog (or two, or three) literally every minute, if not sooner.

Management should have capped the number of dog permits long ago, but since they don’t enforce it anyway, it’d be a pointless exercise.

Anonymous said...

We don't need a chaplain here, we need a MANAGER who is capable of managing and Rick clearly does not fit that bill. His driveling sanctimony and paternalistic blather achieves nothing except to insult our intelligence. He is making himself an object of ridicule while the property becomes an open park for anybody and everybody to use and abuse and spread the Coronavirus.

This is not quite true. I went to NYU hospital a few days ago for a doc appt and they only take your forehead temp upon entering. If you're admitted to the hospital or are scheduled for an elective surgery they will do a nasal swab test for Covid19 a couple of days prior to the procedure to check for an active infection.

As far as the previous poster comparing the property to a "slum" and an "open sewer" , well I suppose it's no Calcutta but isn't it unfortunate that we have to use such a low bar. What's with all this crap about defunding the NYPD? I think they need more funding and need to be out on patrol more. There is a definitely rise in crime and lowering of the quality of life around here. 14th Street between First and A is a no-go zone and First between 14th and 15th is even worse. The East Village is going back to being the way it was when it was called Alphabet City. That was the time when I would ask a taxi driver to watch while I entered my building and my friends wouldn't come over here to visit unless they left before dark. And no, we were not a bunch of wussies. We were young and strong, but not stupid.

I blame DeBozio for much of this and, lifelong Democrat that I am, I am voting for a Republican in the next Mayoral election, no matter who he/she is. Quality of life isn't just about the safety of citizens; it's about the City's economy too. Many people don't want to visit, let alone live in, a city that is rife with crime and squalor.

So, unless all of those geniuses flocking to the suburbs, rural areas, desert islands know how to provide the necessities for themselves and their families without modern conveniences, they are no less threatened by death and worse than the city dwellers.

And, of course, the billionaires with their bunkers and 10 year supplies of everything, and such, won't make it out alive either.

But, as has been observed: we are stupid. And people in this time period of our history are especially lazy, unskilled, and stupid.

Dog shit everywhere - and some of it might not even be dog shit. We have homeless encampments all around the property and a lot of those "travelers" are making the property their squat.

I don't want to listen to homilies and preaching about the downtrodden and unfortunate. I don't want to live with them. I am not paying major bucks to live here in what has become a shithole. Shit and piss in the elevators, stairwells, frequently in the halls and when I go outside I have to walk eyes-down to see where I'm treading.

Rick, either clean up this place and stop acting like a parent who tells his kids "there are starving people in China who'd love what you've got" and remember that we are paying to live here and are paying your salary.
START BEING A GOOD MANAGER OR RESIGN AND GO BACK TO WHATEVER YOU DID BEFORE WE GOT STUCK WITH YOU.

Don't ask us to be Good Neighbors while you are such a Bad Manager.

Speaking of disaster(s), does everyone know that in event of another blackout (a question of when, not if), neither cell phones nor land lines will work? Latter formerly did, via copper wire, but then Verizon and all other carriers made what they disingenuously termed "improvements." Emergency backup batteries can only last couple hours....

A republican will work with RE to get rid of those freeloading rent stabilized welfare recipients once and for all!!!

Which one?

Fear mongering wont work anymore. This city is DEAD. Rent stabilization will die a slow death as apartments will be renting for stabilized prices all over the city. There wont be a need for rent stabilization anymore.

What's with all the fireworks going off all night every night? We need DeBozo to make the cops step up enforcement. They don't have to choke anybody to death, but they do need to start enforcing the law. I never thought I would miss Giuliani, but when it comes to law and order he did a better job that this Bozo. He may be a thoroughly vile individual, but he did do a good job of making this City more livable.
We are going backward now. It's like the 80s, except that the rent is so much higher!

I'll be voting republican (as usual). I'm also one of those "freeloading stabilized welfare recipients."

They won't have to work on getting rid of me though, at least not in 9 months. I'll be leaving this shithole on my own. Yeah, I'm clipping the "golden handcuffs."

Now go back to making your defund the police signs.

First: too many comments are selfish, vile, full of hatred and ugly. WHY?

Second: of course, the electricity and everything dependent upon it, as well as communications of most types, are all going to fail. In the not too distant future.

As usual, human animals are in denial about anything you can name - personal and collective. It is a shame that some people are awake, aware, and trying to wake up the rest of humanity, but are failing and will fail - because those awake and aware people will suffer along with the zombies.

Historic facts prove Blackstone holds a justly-earned, well-deserved, world-renowned reputation for being the most selfish, most vile, most hateful, most ugly, most repulsive Wall Street predator on a rabid global rampage executing a disgustingly simple predatory business plan predicated on the inducement of bribed, corrupt elected representatives ordered to betray their constituents electing them in furtherance of schemes helping Blackstone acquire, exploit, bleed and destroy hundreds (thousands?) of long-standing middle class neighborhoods and communities containing hundreds of thousands of middle class homes occupied by millions of middle class residents.

Worldwide media attention transformed PCVST into a poster child victim of corporate predators supported by corrupt elected officials, possibly the most famous middle class community Blackstone currently is infamously destroying.

STR, and similarly, but to a lesser and more polite extent, STPCV Tenants Facebook (Non-Official), are populated by PCVST residents countering and speaking truth to Blackstone P.R. and bribed elected representatives falsely claiming the best possible outcome from bankrupt Speyer trying and failing to rake in multiple billion dollar windfalls destroying PCVST is Blackstone successfully raking in the same multiple billion dollar windfalls destroying PCVST.

Earlier I saw online a talk with our former mayor, Giuliani. While I am not a solid fan of his (I do have complaints), he addressed what is happening in our city and the need, which he did, of making sure even low level crime is punished. The problems he mentioned could also be said of Management. Management constantly tells "small" lies (even to my face), constantly ignores several city rules, etc. How to blame anyone for not taking Public Safety seriously? We've seen this big-time during the pandemic. In order to be "nice," Management/Rick has ignored basic leadership.

I would have respect for Rick if he stopped being such a Mr. Rogers wannabe and started getting tough on the QOL destroyers. Until he does this, if he ever does, I just wave away his comments and sermons as bullshit.

No gas for 8 weeks!?!?!

Mr. Rogers! Love it!

But he’s more like Mr. Roger’s evil twin.

Apologies for not communicating clearly. I was NOT referring to comments regarding Blackstone and Schwarzman, et al. I don't know that enough can be said about Blackstone which is filled with anger and criticism.

I WAS referring to a small minority of posters on this site who denigrate our homes, boast how THEY are leaving.

THEY are ugly, selfish, self-centered. At best, they express the kind of selfish, small interests that characterize people such as the landlord. At worst, they are smug. They are callous and utterly un-interested or caring about their neighbors.

Partially true, since most people have VOIP phone service, their service would be dependent on battery backup, but you seem to have overlooked the project (after Sandy) where emergency generators were installed to power the cell tower installations. I don't know how many there are, but there's one next to 21 Oval.

Just saw a very sad post on the TA fb page. One (or more) of the buildings is without gas for several weeks. An old lady who lives in one of those buildings is hungry and cannot remember when she had her last meal.

Hey! Mr Rogers, get down from your fucking pulpit and do something about the elderly who actually pay rent to live in this shithole you mismanage. We are entitled to gas and electric. We are entitled to be able to cook, even in those dilapidated old apartments where you are waiting for the tenants to croak.

Do something about this outrage NOW or expect to be on the 11 o'clock news tomorrow. You total ASSHOLE.

But if they want to leave, usually because of our local politicians who can't kept the peace or don't want to, why?

There may be emergency generators linked to cell tower(s) in STPCV, but what about elsewhere in the city and country? Is this housing project 100% self-sufficient in an emergency? Doubtful. Are these generators also linked to the elevators and water pumps? How long will fuel supply last for the generators? How often are the generators inspected/tested? Management here doesn't handle things properly even WITH electricity....

It is outrageous that a building is going to be without gas for 8 weeks and then Management is planning to charge an MCI for a new system to be put in. Like we don't have enough to deal with during this pandemic situation. Somebody on one of the fb pages asked if it was just coincidence that a new restaurant is going into that building. I doubt that it is. This is SOOOOOO Blackstone. This is the kind of shit they pull all over the planet. I don't know how Heyduk can live with himself while he is working for these BLOODSUCKING BASTARDS. His smarmy sermonizing makes me want to puke.

Get ready for it, it will be happening to your building soon. Mine was done over a year ago. They also rip open the walls in your kitchen.

Exactly... he gets his marching orders from Park Avenue and does everything they ask of him regardless of the extreme emotional, mental, and physical toll it takes on the tenants. That makes him no better than the people giving the orders.

It's very sad to see what happened to this place. It just seems to keep getting worse and worse year by year. I have to say that when I moved here decades ago, I never would have predicted the precipitous fall in the quality of life that has materialized here. I wonder, can it get any worse?

Anonymous said...

Are tenants in the affected building(s) being compensated?

8 weeks is RIDICULOUS!

Has anyone else noticed an increase in rat sightings in and around the sty? I work late and pretty much see them on a daily basis now. I'm sure that all the shit and piss all over the property doesn't help matters. I did call it in and person I spoke to seemed receptive, but she was probably just giving me lip service. This place is falling hard!

I drove uptown on the FDR yesterday morning and downtown last night. The Sty looks dark, ugly, dirty and depressing. So many empty apartments. Such a neglected and "dead" look about it. It used to be just the opposite in the pre-Private Equity days. Then, it looked alive, warm, inviting and lived in. Some people still live here (I'm one of them), but there seems to be no "life." Those trashy outdoor events Hayduk puts on don't help in any way.

Attempted rape in Sty Oval yesterday. Where were PS?

Anonymous said...

Nothing on the TA FB about the attempted rape in the Oval yesterday. When Hayduk says "jump" they say "how high?"

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Are we talking about an attempted rape yesterday or months back?

June's almost over. Isn't Little Ricky doing anything for Pride Month this year, pandemic notwithstanding? Such a great loss for everyone here (sarcasm)....

I don't disagree. Let's be honest though. This place never was very visually appealing. I, for one, never really cared because it used to be such a pleasant place to live. I think that the steep decline in the quality of life here has brought to the fore the visual ugliness of the property. Yes, it looks "dark, ugly, and dirty."

It kills me to give my apt back to Blackstone so that they can renovate and gouge. One has to enjoy their home though. You win Blackstone.
