Someone Please Fire Stuy Town's Security Chief

Well, it happened. An elderly woman got knocked down by a speeding bicycle on the 20th Street Loop and wound up in the hospital. According to Town & Village, a rep for Tishman Speyer had the audacity to state that security is "vigilant" in enforcing the rules in Stuyvesant Town (which includes no bike riding). BULLSHIT.

Our security team is regrettably NOT vigilant (aside from a rare employee or two). Security allows bike riding right before their noses, as well as other infringements of the rules (dogs off leash, dogs on grass, etc.) Our security SUCKS overall.

The culpability rests at the top, so--SOMEONE PLEASE FIRE OUR SECURITY CHIEF. He is either clueless or, if clued in, doesn't give a damn.

Security is about as good as our laundry equipment. TOTALLY FUCKING USELESS, INFERIOR AND A WASTE OF SPACE AND MONEY.

The problem does not lie with the Chief of Security. The problem is caused by a management that is loathe to correct behavior of people paying (near) market rents. The landlord adopted a "hands off" policy because they are not willing to lose any paying renters, no matter how badly they affect the quality of life here, and have instructed their Security staff accordingly.

Unfortunately, the bad apples infect the whole bunch, and the bad behavior spreads far and wide as newcomers and long time residents see that their are no boundaries to their behavior, so they just do as they please.

Does anyone think these problems will go away if the place goes co-op ?

I don't think the problems will go away if the place goes co-op and I don't know why anybody would want to sink their hard-earned money into buying an apartment in a glorified project.

The comment about the attitude of owners and management rings true.
Without a mandate from them,Public Safety has their hands tied. The current Chief is
A good man but is doing as he is told.
For all of the knocks thrown at them, there
Are a number of dedicated hard workers who
Over the years made a major difference
In both safety and quality of life in the
Community.these guys had a reputation with
NYPD Brass and the NY County D.A.as professionals.
The city has changed, but these guys were the reason
That the days of a robbery or two a day
Which was common back in the early 80'
Came to an end in PCVST ahead of the pace of the rest of the city. People forget, but the force under former
FBI agent Bob Scimeme and "The Chief" Pete
Herkenham seemed to be eager to do the job. Maybe it's
Time to give these guys a call back, give
Them the word and see if they can put
Some energy and morale back into the
Rank and file to once again "Protect and Serve"

It's absolutely true that Stuyvesant Town police are useless. They acosted me once when I was lying on the bench relaxing one summer night. I also see them harass dog owners and threaten them with summons for walking near grass. It's ridiculous when there is garbage and cigarette butts everywhere and no people are bothered by the police for making Stuytown now look like a landfill
