Key Card Charges Reversed

From the Tenants Association:

Rose Associates has reversed course and discontinued the new $8.00 per key card charge for key cards provided to tenants for their visitors and employees and they stated that they have credited the accounts of all tenants who may have been charged for a visitor card prior to reaching the four free cards threshold.

The reversal came in response to the Tenants Association’s December 1, 2011 predicate notice sent to Rose Associates by the TA’s Counsel, Tim Collins of Collins, Dobkin & Miller charging that the implementation of an $8.00 per card charge was a reduction in service under the Rent Stabilization Code. News of management’s reversal came in a letter to Mr. Collins, dated December 14, 2011, from management’s General Counsel.

The Tenants Association is to be congratulated for its success on this issue. This is the second time in recent months that they have successfully challenged CW and Rose (the first being teh trunk rooms) and made them back down in their efforts to screw the tenants.

Thanks TA. Bet all those folks who dissed the TA in the thread when the charge was imposed will step up and acknowledge the TAs success here. Something tells me not to expect much.

So now the people who let others into their apartments or rent out their apartments as an illegal hotel dont have to pay to get more cards. Instead the cost will be absorbed by CW Capital...yeah right...instead CW Capital will pass the costs of providing this service among all tenants. Way to go TA. I'm sure those who run illegal hotels and frequently take advantage of this free service are grateful. Of course the rest of us who NEVER have used this service can pick up the fee....wonderful job screwing the masses again TA!

If the TA could get Rose to crack down on the noise and filth issues I'd really be impressed.

Sorry, off-topic but I didn't know where else to post this. Transel Elevators is being investigated for the elevator accident on Madison Avenue, because they did electrical work on this elevator only a few hours before the tragic accident. The Department of Buildings is now checking the elevators of the other buildings that Transel serviced. On Transel's website under "Clients," it lists Rose Associates and Tishman Speyer as their clients, so I hope they haven't been working on the elevators in ST and PCV: http://www.transel.com/

??????? Blame the TA? seriously? blame 5000 of us who complained about the charge.

w.t.h?

We know for sure the elevators here are crap. I think it was the Lux Living guy who was seriously injured by one of them malfunctioning. Other people have had nasty mishaps in them too. Unfortunately, not taking the elevator is not an option for the older folk and the people who live on the higher floors. I live on a low floor and often take the urine-soaked stairwell because the elevators in my building are so temperamental.

Do not loose my head worring over this!

Anon Dec. 16 10:11am, your comment is simply idiotic. DHCR mandated that the first 4 keys be free. The TA was holding Management's feet to the fire to stop them from violating the DHCR order and ripping tenants off. Hearing you opine without knowing what you are talking about makes me think that nothing the TA would do would satisfy you.

SO UPSET ABOUT ARMSTRONGS CLOSING!!!!!

Would be great if you UNDERSTOOD the post. Sad and idiotic on your part. But TYPICAL. Carry on.

Actually, I'm elated that Armstrongs is closing. I wasn't aware of this. I really did try to like that pub, because of the proximity to Stuytown and all. I simply couldn't. I mean, if I were back at college I would have loved a place like that, but not now. It was one big frat house in my opinion. I wonder why it's closing? It always appeared to me to be doing a brisk business. I guess I was wrong.

+1 on Armstrong's Closing! Went there all the time. Nice folks and so convenient.

As for the key cards, how can you not thank the TA for acting on this but let's keep the accomplishment in perspective. There are so many more important issues where they have been silent or ineffectual. We owe them thanks--but not for "saving our homes."

"The ugliest inspection record of any commercial building in the city belongs to the Lipstick Building — Its 16 elevators racked up 90 violations since 2003....The Lipstick Building’s management company, Tishman Speyer, did not return a call seeking comment."

to: " The TA was holding Management's feet to the fire "

You have to be joking with that statement.
CW & Rose could not care less about the TA never mind be afraid of them.
I personally think that CW & Rose intentionally, does things like the $8 card fee for a laugh.
Then they sit back and watch the TA running around like chickens with their heads cut off, and spending money and resources to fight an $8 fee.

If Tishman Speyer can't even take responsibility for safe elevators in the Lipstick Building, you can be sure they didn't care about the safety of the tenants here when they had our crap elevators installed.

I'm pretty sure that TS didn't install the crap elevators in our buildings. My recollection is that they were renovated under Met Life--at least in PCV. That said, they did a crap job, too!

When they replaced the internal doors they forgot that the outside doors had windows so now there's a window from the hall that looks at the backside of the inside elevator door! Very classy.

And, of course, they break all the time. One of them has a door that opens and closes twice at every floor. Both of them have been beat up so bad by the constant parade of transient move-ins and move outs that they really should be done all over again.

Crap elevators or crap IN the elevators.... which one is it, i could never remember...

Anon Dec. 18 10:26 AM - Would you rather that the TA did NOT fight this illegal charge? What EXACTLY would you have liked them to do about it? Nothing? And let Rose Mismanagement get away with it? C'mon.

People like you and Anon Dec. 17 10:26 AM sound like you'd complain about ANYTHING that the TA does.

Anon Dec. 17, please explain how your Dec. 16 10:11AM post was misunderstood. I, and others, seem to have understood it perfectly. And disagree with YOU.

Anonymous said...

Yes, December 18, 10:26 a.m., you are clearly so much more capable of handling our property fight than ANYONE on the TA or our political officials or any other resident, so why don't you join the TA and do that rather than just groan and moan?

The anon Dec. 16 10:11AM rant was one of the most puzzling and ridiculous I have seen here in a long time.

I don't plan on renting out my couch because I can get a few free key cards. Nobody does. It doesn't cost the rest of us another dime--it only costs CW.

Then how do you explain all the advertisments for illegal hotel rooms in ST/PCV?

It doesn't cost the rest of us another dime--it only costs CW.

Wrong again. The costs associated with making those keycards (and all other costs) are passed on directly to market rate tenants in their renewals and to RS tenants in the papers filed with the RGB.

The proper way to handle that situation would be to charge the person who regularly loses their card or the person who has the illegal hotel situation set up or other guests who cant be let in by the resident. Then they pay the fee, now we all pay it.

I wrote the 12/16 comment but not the 12/17 comment. If you want to make believe you understand things then good for you. I wont waste my time explaining how the world works to you.

Those crappy elevators in PCV were installed by Mets then property manager - none other than Rose Associates.

6 pm -And well you shouldn't. One should never explain things he doesn't understand himself.

Wow stunning comeback...I'm surprised you didnt say "I know you are but what am I?" or a more age appropriate "I'm rubber you're glue..."

Tell us again how old you are. Your intelligence is astounding. Very impressive. Are you a troll or part of the NYU group?

Sounds like some angry tenants are on here.
