More Destruction of the Oval Park.....

Posted by Flavio on the TA Facebook page.  Update: Not the only tree being cut down.

Update #2 - July 10th: The video, which showed a worker cutting parts of a Oval tree, has been removed by the YouTube uploader. I wonder why?  There are also reports of other trees around Stuy Town and Peter Cooper being cut down.  Looks like I have a weekend tour of the complex, with a camera, ahead of me, weather permitting.

This CW crew seems to be worse than Tishman Speyer.  I'm sure none of us ever thought that could be possible!  At least Tishman Speyer planted (and over-planted) trees, these CW guys seem to be fixated on cutting them down.  Sure, something will go up or be planted in their place--one thinks/hopes--but trees that have been around longer than a few years are impossible to replace.  STPCV used to be known as "A Park Runs Through It" but now it's "A Wasteland Runs Through It."

Each tree that comes down, each act of destruction to the once-beautiful grounds make me more and more determined that I will NOT vote for Garodnick. He could have done so much more to stand up to CW Bastards if he had the balls or the incentive. He obviously has neither. I wonder how he feels about dropping his plan to run for Comptroller in deference to Scott Stringer now that Client No. 9 (who humps whores with his socks on!) has come steamrollering in? I won’t vote for him, but I have no respect for Stringer either as he approved the metastasizing of NYU in the Village.
Speaking of metastases, when will be free of this opportunistic and destructive “landlord” and its nepotistic, incompetent “management” company? Nepotism seems to be rife in real estate circles. Look at what the mentally and morally defective son of Jerry Speyer did to us!

WHY are these bastards cutting down trees? They are determined to totally destroy every bit of beauty in this place. They have tubs full of plants that are dying because they haven't been planted and they are cutting down beautiful healthy trees.

does anyone ask MANAGEMENT why they cut trees? or the workers?

?????

Yes, let's talk about the money wasted on potted plants left baking in the sun and dying. Bang up job Monster MacArthur!

This vandalism, pure and simple. Why would anyone cut down perfectly healthy mature trees? This is just malicious vandalism and it is indicative of the level of contempt and incompetency that defines CW and CR. I really think we need to petition to the AG to get rid of these useless and criminal bastards. I'd vote for anyone - anyone! - who would pledge to rid us of this vermin and prevent them from doing any more damage to the grounds and our community in general.

I wouldn't believe anything management says. In the past, management has said that trees are cut down because they are dying, with no evidence of such approaching death visible. We've already been acclimated to the typical pattern here of things being planted and then uprooted, then planted, then uprooted--over and over again. It's now a cruel joke. So much money and effort being wasted. There's a backstory behind this, but unless we get a whistleblower, we won't find out what that backstory is.

Can we have CW/CR forced to open up their books so we can see what they are doing with the money they are supposed to be stewards of? I think it would be very interesting to see how they justify Compass Rock's fees for such total incompetency. As for the trees they are vandalizing, I think that is pure malice to make people want to leave here. It makes me all the more determined to stay, though I know I will never go near what once was the Oval again.

Does anyone else think there's some sort of scam going on with the landscaping? Stuy town does so much unnecessary landscaping work. They plant trees and chop 80% of them down a few years later. They plant bushes and rip them out a few months later. They lop healthy branches off of the mature trees for no reason until those trees get sick, and then chop them down. They buy bushes and trees and let them die before planting them. Incompetence can only explain so much - I think there's something deliberate going on. Does anyone have any ideas what the scam is?

It's probably considered a win-win situation by CW. On one hand, CW will put this place up for sale and gloat about how the Oval and other grounds have been completely redone. On the other hand, CW and the companies it hires are making money per month as long as CW's stewardship lasts.

The removal of all the plantings around the Oval was a tragedy (and unnecessary), but now cutting down trees is even more impacting, as they can't be easily replaced by trees of the same height.

I'm sure what we'll get as a replacement will look "nice" (it better look nice), but, again, this massive redo is completely unnecessary and a waste of money and a crime against nature.

It's hard to imagine tenants (who care about Stuy Town) having a lower opinion of CW and CompassRock than they do now. Yet the Powers that Be always manage to think up something new to make that opinion even go lower.

I suspect that the landscaping company is an offshoot of CW, so they can double dip again. There needs to be a serious investigation into their practices and motives. Tishman Speyer were saints compared to this vermin. I hope that the TA will step up to the plate and petition the AG for a thorough investigation into this shabby outfit's books. I will vote for Spitzer if he will take on this lot! I will vote for ANYBODY who will take them on and really investigate them.

IF ELIOT SPITZER WILL PROMISE TO STEAMROLLER CW/CR OUT OF TOWN I WILL NOT ONLY VOTE FOR HIM, I WILL CAMPAIGN FOR HIM AND, IN FACT, DO ANYTHING FOR HIM. HE CAN LEAVE HIS SOCKS ON WHILE HE DOES IT!

Anonymous said...

It's cheaper to grind up a beautiful tree than to actually care for it.

I guess the same goes for tenants.

Anonymous said...

some sort of scam going on with the landscaping?

Plant, destroy, plant after the 2 years limitations is a tax deduction paid by NY city to Stuytown.

Or, could it be fattening someones pockets?

They make the place look bigger to sell !

The squirrels are getting eviction notices.

The company that provided the greenery during the Tishman Speyer years made a small fortune. First off the high turnover of plant, rip up, repeat several times a season and second they inflated the prices of their greenery.

For all those calling for getting the TA, Dan Garodnick, the Attorney General, etc involved over these tree removals: NYC claims no responsibility for trees on private property. Owners can remove them without the city's permission, but they do need to get a permit from The NYC Dept of Parks and Recreation first. Parks and Rec makes it pretty easy.

CW Capital, Andrew MacArthur, Compass Rock:

DESTRUCTIVE, DEMONIC, DISTURBING, DISTURBED, DERANGED, DEHUMANIZING, DEBASING, DEBASED, DEPRESSING, DEMENTED, DEPRAVED AND HATED, HATED, HATED, HATED. YOU ARE ALL BEYOND EVIL.

Are these bastards going to cut down every tree in Stuyvesant Town? Are they determined to totally destroy every scrap of beauty in this place? If so, why? What do they get out of it? How can they be stopped?

Anonymous said...

Andrew MacArthur is a destructive warlord. He has zero accountability and is ruining this place. An outside company should be hired to audit CWCapital's practices.

Anonymous said...

They have to cut down all the trees before they can bulldoze this place.

Wait and see.

Like everyone else I don't like the removal of trees from the project. They add beauty and provide fresh air, etc. However, if I was considering buying I would want them to take down every tree over 6 feet tall. Does anyone understand the huge liability that comes with having trees? If even a branch falls and hits someone, as an owner you are going to get sued. As a homeowner/landowner I can also attest to the fact that many trees die from the inside out, meaning a tree may look perfectly fine on the outside but it is rotten on the inside, a true accident waiting to happen. Point is before you go off the deep end about the taking down of trees first you should find out if those trees needed to come down for safety sake and to prevent lawsuits in the event of an injury.

You'd have a pretty bare and awful Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village in such a case. If we take your argument to its logical point, the city may as well cut down all the trees over 6 feet in all the city parks, including Central Park.

Thanks for helping me and my husband decide definitively that we WILL NOT buy, should the opportunity arise! We would not want to be co-owners/co-operators with anybody like you!

The thing is, you see, somebody told these idiots from Colorado that Campos Plaza was the epitome of New York Luxury Living. With that in mind, they have been trying very hard to bring Stuyvesant Town and PCV up to the high standards of Campos Plaza. Shhh, don't tell them they are wrong because I don't think the have Peejays in Colorado. Wouldn't want to embarrass them.

Anonymous said...

Stuy Town makes Campos Plaza look like Trump Tower!

Anonymous said...

Andrew MacArthur! You're fired!

I believe 2 people died in central park in the past year after being hit with falling branches. The city is probably paying millions over that. The city can tax people to raise revenues to cover this, how are tenants going to get that money? Insurance, right. Good luck keeping the monthly maintenance fees under 2K.

Not to worry, I wouldn't buy in. I will stay rent stabilized and let you pay the bills.

Not funny,STR. Beautiful trees are being murdered.

My "Timber" comment was not about what's happening in STPCV, about which I'm outraged (can't you tell by the main page???), but was directed at the comment at 11:29am.

Although, things have gotten so ridiculous here that perhaps dark humor is the only way to go.

Compass Rock is evil. No doubt about that. They are destroying the Oval for whatever reason, which I'm sure is not a good one. They are just plain evil. Maybe they are planning to build something on the Oval? The people who planted the trees on the Oval originally knew exactly what they were doing. The trees provided a protection against the wind and protected the grass. They were planted thoughtfully with a view to the future. These morons are destroying everything that was good in the grounds just as they are destroying the buildings by putting in multi-occupancy apartments (divided up with fake walls) and putting a terrible strain on the infrastructure while making life miserable for the rest of the tenants. There really needs to be an official thorough investigation into their practices. Of course, that won't happen under the Bloomberg administration because he is their friend. I'd love to see the 60-Minutes News team descend on them! This has to be one of the most corrupt, evil and destructive companies in the country. I hope their stinking bondholders get zippo. You invest in the destruction of people's lives, you deserve to lose.

Am sitting by the Oval right now. It bears very little resemblance to how it used to look. Those bastards have all but destroyed it. Destruction is the only thing they do well.

Andrew MacArthur and Brian Moriaty need to be fired. There's not an inch of this property they haven't fucked up. It made me happy to read the comment on Escape today from the young lady who decided against renting here. I hope others wisen up too.

On the landscaping scam theme: Is there any way for stuy town to pass some of the unnecessary landscaping expenses through into rents (e.g. as MCI)? If so, the landscaping might be part of an effort to get rents above the "luxury decontrol" threshold (was $2000/month, now $2500/month) decontrol more apartments, and jack up rents. The scam seems too blatant to be individual "entrepreneurship" - it feels like something institutional.

Anonymous said...

"if I was considering buying I would want them to take down every tree over 6 feet tall. Does anyone understand the huge liability that comes with having trees?"

Do you understand how much lower the value of the apartments would be with no trees? How much less would buyers pay for an apartment in what looks like a straight housing project with bare concrete everywhere? The apartments in stuy town are nothing special - what makes the complex nice (and supports prices) is the outside and landscaping. Google "housing value trees" - you'll see studies showing mature trees add 10 - 20% to property values.

Anonymous said...

The trees are the only thing that differentiate Stuy Town from the projects as far as aesthetics go. We are one log jam away from looking like Campos Plaza. Andrew MacArthur and Brian Moriarty need to go. Evil do, evil says.
