Ugly and Pathetic, Part 2

It really isn't working.  The "gardening" or "landscaping" at the Oval crescents looks sterile and institutional--and, because of the excess of mulch spread all over the ground, the crescents smell bad, too. People who used to sit nearby are having a hard time breathing.  A good number of plants have been harmed in transit or are dying.  No doubt we will see a continual turnover of plants in both crescents, as the maimed ones die away.  Even the rope fence didn't survive a day without coming to harm, whether malicious or not. (Since then, it has been fixed.)  Ugly and pathetic is right.  Thanks for ruining the Oval for us, CWCapital/CompassRock. You guys are a treasure.

Hey, you complainers about the noise coming from Oval concerts and activities!  Can't you read?  Would we lie to you about the perks of Stuy Town?

Is the More Peace & Quiet banner Photoshopped? If not, are they F------ KIDDING? There isn't a MOMENT of silence around here between leaf blowing, back hoes, rock concerts, TV on the Oval, etc. Give me a break!

Anonymous said...

They have destroyed the Oval and the quality of life here. What more can they destroy? As for the "More Peace and Quiet" sign, that is a sick joke. They should have a sign that says "Abandon Hope All Who Enter." At least that would be the truth. The lack of intelligence, decency and competence displayed by CWCap/Compass Rock is something that would be a good theme for a dark comedy movie. I wish some investigative reporter would come around here. What a story they would have! The Charles Baggli book didn't go far enough. He only wrote about the financial malfeasance. He didn't report on how the property and the lives of tenants have been harmed by these bozos.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The banner is not Photoshopped. Technically, it does refer to the Oval Study, but, then, why "More"?

The so-called "concert" Saturday was a nightmare. Hour after hour of incessant blaring noise. This is music?? Truly an outrage. There must be some recourse tenants living near the Oval have. All I want is some peace and quiet in my own home on the weekends. Is that too much to ask? Any suggestions? I called Security and they laughed. I called 311 and they said call the precinct. The precinct said it's private property and they could do nothing. HELP!

I have had many rentals in Manhattan (long story) and this one, is by far, the worst rental.

The disruption from neighbors (thin walls and floors). I have many carpets, heavy wood furniture and I can hear the screams and normal conversation of those above us, and below us all hours of the day/night. shoes and walking from above is as if they are in the same room. click click from heels back and forth, back and forth, usually at 3 am. Moving out, you can have your dorm back. All this for $4200 a month. yeah!

There must have been a convention of the whoo hoo and OMG gils last night/early hours of this morning on the 14th Street Loop. I was woken up several times by these idiots. Why doesn't "Public Safety" ever patrol the 14th Street Loop in the wee small hours of Friday/Saturday and Saturday/Sunday mornings between 12 am and 4 am. Lot of noise and screeching occurs then. If I had a piss pot, I'd dump it over their heads.

Security is useless. If the precinct is claiming they can't take action because it is private property, the person you spoke with is full of baloney. The PD responds to complaints and calls for assistance on private property every hour of every day. If they truly said that, then write to the precinct commander and if that gets you no where move it up to the Internal Affairs Bureau.

Anonymous said...

I moved out last month. The noise pollution from both indoors and outdoors was too much. I chose not to renew my lease and couldn't be happier. I forgot how much I could enjoy my apartment now that I'm not being bombarded with disturbances all day and night.

Anonymous said...

Agree with Anon 9:29 AM. The police respond to disturbances on private property ALL THE TIME. Time for someone in power to investigate why the NYPD will not come to STPCV when called. If they don't want to come, then I shouldn't have to pay taxes to pay their salaries.

On another note, looks like misManagement is targeting long-time, rent-stabilized tenants first in their apartment inspections. Obviously, they're hoping to scare/force those people out so they can grab their apartments, convert them and jack the rents way up. The fact is that they should be targeting the newer arrivals to check for illegal walls and carpeting, especially since their marketing ads show carpets the size of postage stamps in them!

Don't you think the 13th Pct takes its directions from CR? I do.

7/28 @ 9:49:

I guess the walls and floors here have gotten thinner over the years, because the clackety-clack and yakkity-yak of your neighbors were an non-issue for us in the many decades leasing up to PCVST going "luxury".

You may have heavy carpets and rugs, but your 1 yr transient neighbors aren't shelling out hundreds, or thousands, of dollars to buy rugs for an apartment that's just a temporary flophouse for themselves and their three roommates. No matter what they initialed on their lease.

We've been dealing with this for a long time as the apt upstairs from us has been churning yearly for the last several. It's a regular ritual - we go up there, knock on their door, introduce ourselves, and politely inform them just how obnoxiously loud it can be when people above you clop around in heels on a bare wood floor (they usually have no idea).

After that, they'll seem to make an effort to keep the clomping down, but they never get the required floor covering that management used to vigorously enforce that kept things quiet and everyone relatively happy. So we hear their comings and goings and everything (and I mean everything!) in between...

Methinks the pimps in the rental office give prospective tenants the same wink-wink, nudge-nudge, don't-worry-about-it treatment to the carpeting clause that they did with that silly mid-lease rent increase bit in the fine print.

What would it take for management to enforce the floor covering rules, and maybe even find some sort of affordable rug rental solution for the short-termers?

A little effort, and concern for their renters. Apparently, way to much to ask...

Why would management target the NEW ARRIVALS for walls / inspections?

THEY PUT IN THE WALLS. Our neighbor has a 'wall' - we watched management install it, called Donalda, met with her in person to confirm.

Anonymous said...

Let's start a post or section of where people are moving to...

Wouldn't that be fun: Who's next? Me, I'm out! Haven't slept in 5 mnths here. Moving to _______.

Hippo said...

Lucky us! We now have the Wednesday night movies to look forward to on a weekly basis...woo hoo! The ever increasing and evolving noise pollution from the Oval is simply an incremental step to totally commercialize the Oval. Mark my words in the next year or two there will be nightly "events"...a mini stadium built perhaps for rock concerts, boutique little shops, vendors galore. You think I'm joking. Let's see who is laughing last. Surely not the residents. CW Capital, Compass Cock...rot in your own swill. All others: have a nice day!...lol

Anonymous said...

"called Donalda, met with her in person to confirm."

You've actually seen her? Most people can't get her to respond.

Anonymous said...

I'm not opposed to a different style of gardening per se. If the plantings were attractive and required less water, that would be fine with me. But they're not attractive (has anybody ever seen some of these varieties elsewhere?), they're not arranged in an attractive way, and they don't survive. And that's without the issue of the foul-smelling mulch.

I was in Madison Square Park yesterday, and it was beautiful. I also saw what some gardeners were doing here--yanking up what was growing between cobblestones on Peter Cooper Road. Really? That's where you're putting your effort, getting rid of a few blades of grass (in the only place grass is actually growing)?

It's hard to comprehend the continued and profound stupidity of Andrew MacArthur and his drone legions. Which reminds me--has anyone had any dealings with David Sorise, the boy property manager?

Anonymous said...

I had a Quinn campaign volunteer ring my door bell yesterday. I sent him off with an earful. Doubt he heard me though because he didn't have the respect to take his iPod buds out of his ear.

Anonymous said...

I noticed that Gayle Brewer was campaigning outside Associated yesterday. I don't know much about her except that when Bloomturd and Quinn announced their ban on smoking on the beaches and in the parks and when they announced some other freedom-fucking legislation, she was always there with a big grin on her stupid, ugly face, nodding her head in approval. I have to say this for Garodnick, whenever he is standing next to Bloomturd or Quinn, the expression on his face makes me think he is having a bad flare-up of hemorrhoids. He never looks comfortable with them!

"Ugly and Pathetic" is the right description for what these monsters have done to the Oval. It's clearly a reflection of their limited intelligence and skills when it comes to landscaping. Really sad, what they have done.

Anonymous said...

""called Donalda, met with her in person to confirm."

I thought she was just a name they made up, same way all those fraudulent mortgages and junk mail are signed by non-existent "people."

You got that right! Why the hell should we be paying taxes when we have no representation, at least by the 13th PCT. They work for "management" obviously. Remember all those crimes in PCV/ST committed in Gramercy? ;-)

As a long-time, rent-stabilized tenant, I can tell you that I and many of my neighbors and family will NOT be driven or scared out of here! In fact, the more they fuck with us, the more determined we are to stand firm. The more they fuck with us, the more we despise and have no respect for them. Eventually, they will go - just like Tishman Speyer did - and we will have another bunch of assholes who will try to get us out. We just won't budge, though, and some of us actually get a perverse pleasure in loathing these assholes to the extent of actively trying to dissuade folks from renting here. A lot of us work at home and can get the message out on the web and others have posted signs and articles in the workplace on bulletin boards which people looking for rentals often peruse. Our message goes out beyond New York and even beyond the United States. StyTown is a bit of a catchphrase at London University and several colleges in the UK and EU where students are warned of the horrors! We post in all languages! Compass Rock will be off this property long, long before I and my family and friends and neighbors will be. We aint that old and we aint at all forgiving!

Yes, we met Donalda. If you complain and complain via phone, email, letters over and over, ask for her boss and her manager and his manager, she will call you back or her boss might. Whomever that may be at the time.

Then you can ask her to come and inspect , your place, their place, over and over and VOILA, she shows up! She will tell you the 'walls' in the unrented apartments are aproved by management, fwiw. I guess you can't get your own walls, just her walls.

Amazing.

I'm so happy to see that Bloomturd's large soda ban was overruled AGAIN! Let him spend his own money if he wants to tie up the courts with this nonsense. We don't need a dictator in New York. This guy has destroyed life for so many people's lives in New York. I can't wait for him to go away and I will never vote for anyone who voted in favor of his overturning term limits and buying a third term. I wish them all to go to Hell.

Apparently CW Capital and Compass Rock are now advertising apartments in STPCV in movie theaters. These bloodsuckers have all sorts of money to spend on all sorts of advertising, but the hallways in my building haven't been painted in years and the carpeting is filthy. Please go away and leave us alone! We detest you!!!!!! There is a special place in HELL reserved for all of you who make our lives miserable on a daily basis. YOU ARE VILE. You are not the 1%, you are the ZEROS!!!!!!

I'd LOVE to see those ads! What's their angle? Convert a one bedroom into a 9 bedroom dorm for all your dudes, bros and OMGs? Run your own chain of AirBnb illegal hotels? Operate an escort service? A meth lab? And lets not forget the events! Blackout Drunk on the Oval. Deep Throating in the Bushes. Vomiting in the Fountain. Fecal Free-For-All in the Stairwells. The possibilities are endless in the lawless dump Andrew MacArthur has created here.

What??? Why would someone have to be a dog hater because they don't like the fact that dogs are allowed to pee on the plants here by their stupid, ignorant, lazy, selfish owners? Dog pee contains salts that are BAD for plants and dogs should NOT be allowed to pee on them!

I don't care who becomes Mayor, who becomes Comptroller, who becomes Boro President, who becomes Public Advocate -- just so long as they do something about these useless, vile developers and landlords who are making life HELL for tenants. CW/Compass Rock, especially. I would vote for anyone who would rid us of this pestilence, rather than encourage it. CW/CR has to be the most useless, inept, incompetent bunch of assholes who ever tried (and failed) to run a property. I can't stand them any more and would vote for Stalin, if necessary, to rid us of this VERMIN!

When did this city cease to be a democracy and become an oligarchy? I'll tell you when: when Bloomberg cashed in on 9/11 and took control and bought his second term and then his illegal third term (with the aiding and abetting of Bitch Quinn and her ilk). Since then, the City has been the playground of developers, corporations and Friends of Bloomberg. New York City is no longer. It was killed by Bloomberg and his cronies. We have to take it back or give it up completely. Remember, a vote for Quinn is a vote for more Bloomberg, more real estate vultures and bloodsuckers and fewer rights and freedom for the people who made this city great. Obviously, I am not talking about the Hipsters, OMG girls and stupid, ugly NYU bros and hos. The come here, they take and they give nothing back.

There's no such thing as a quiet apartment in Stuy Town. Either they are packed with 20-somethings living like the tenement days or the apartments are noisily being renovated to make more room for... you guessed it, 20-somethings who want to live a tenement lifestyle. Look elsewhere using Craigslist, StreetEasy, etc.

I looked at the new landscaping around the Oval today, and actually thought that it has potential. They planted a bunch of hydrangea which will bring a lot of color that last's most of the spring/summer, and boxwoods that will eventually fill out. I wouldn't bemoan the job just yet, give it some time to mature. I do however think they thinned the trees a bit too much, and that's a major mistake. They should replant some mature shade trees to keep the Oval temperature down.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The Oval is my favorite spot in Stuy Town, and I still hate the new landscaping. People will get used to it, of course, particularly those who don't have good memories--or any memories--of what was there before.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Also, opening up the Oval has made it less cozy and secluded, with more views of people, the Oval Cafe, etc, making Stuy Town seem more like the projects with a steady stream of public access. It's looking like NYC, and not the oasis it once was.

Anonymous said...

Change is difficult to deal with STR. I wouldn't waste too much more psychic energy on the plants. There's bigger problems, and bigger fish to fry. Hey... whatever happened to the CONVERSION ????

Anonymous said...

They have destroyed the Oval. Those beautiful shade trees are gone forever. They have devalued and degraded the property because they are too rank stupid to know any better. CW/CR are total losers. Useless
bloodsucking shit that isn't worthy of air to breathe.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>Change is difficult to deal with STR. I wouldn't waste too much more psychic energy on the plants.<<

Well, as the Oval area is my favorite area in Stuy Town (and in Manhattan), I can't help but spend some of my psychic energy on the issue. CWCapital/CompassRock has really, truly ruined the Oval. TG, we still have the Fountain!

As for conversion, I don't think it's happening, and if it did, we'd have a whole new set of problems.

Anonymous said...

They'll remove the fountain next.

Some BS about insurance and potential accidents.

Just you wait and see.

IMO Stuy town and its parasitic twin, Peter Cooper Village, need to be razed.

I don't care about its "vibrant" community, there is plenty of community going on in the rest of the east village to make up for it. The monotonous, dreadful apartment towers brings to mind the undignified and oppressive public housing projects found throughout much of the city.

It has no character, no uniqueness, and it pretty much sticks out like a sore thumb. I say tear it down, keep the park, divide it into lots and build a modern, light community, environmentally respectable and socially responsible. And call it the "Jane Jacobs Village," since it was totally her vision.
