Deck Chairs Are Now At The Oval

Gumby must be working overtime. I thought that the shark couldn't have jumped more, but, boy, was I wrong! Spotted this morning at the Oval--white deck chairs! Yes, for those who jokingly made reference to our dear Rick operating a cruise ship in Florida. Well, your joke has turned into reality! Yes, deck chairs are now at the Oval!

Why stop there? As we know from cruise ships, there has been service for those that occupy those chairs. And we know that Five Stuy Cafe is just aching to make money. Deck chairs, service, those cooling drinks....

Inside the new Five Stuy Cafe. Getting ready for the masses at the Oval.

Enjoying all the amenities that the Oval offers. Music, movies, deck chairs, artisanal food, drinks...

Part of Management's Stuy Town Resident Service. Here's looking at you!

And the cheerleaders of course are raving about them. Any stupid gimmick. Now clean up the garbage

Over at the TA Facebook page...(LOL, do they have some light-headed residents there?), "Peter Stuyvesant" posted: >>Others have noticed the tendency of members of this page to complain, sometimes justifiably but often to excess. So let's all consider whether it's really necessary to add that additional negative to something that is said here. It probably isn't, and perhaps we can try to be more positive and supportive.<<

Positive and supportive of what? Idiots?

Pete's response was to this post: >>This page is one big bitch fest! Don’t you people have anything better to do than complain?<<

No, dear resident. Come over here and try that line. It's just about on the level of "What's it to you?" or "If you don't like it here, move to the country."

Go take a hike. (New York talk.)

Regarding that outdoor gym...it is woefully underused. At most, I see three or four residents use it when the weather is nice. It is not used during rainy weather, and it is not used when it is winter, and even when it gets colder. The other day I saw one of the "cheerleaders." Think she uses the outdoor gym? I have never seen her use it.

I wish people would stop BSing like this. For the amount of residents (30,000 officially) that outdoor gym, though looking nice, is a failure. Unless its real purpose is to sell the concept that we have "amenities." What a farce!

Hayduk’s top cheerleader is loving those Adirondack chairs. Rah! Rah! As for the comment about bitching, maybe this guy likes looking at garbage and dirty mattresses.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Rick just loves those cheerleading comments, even if the comments are few compared with the 30,000 residents that are here. "See, they love all the amenities we give them!"

More, more, more! Let's see how high can the shark can jump.

Those cheerleaders think everything is funny. Wait until they are priced out of their apartments or get bedbugs. Then they won’t be laughing. Can’t believe people can ignore filth and noise pollution. Can imagine what their apartments look like. Today, seen again this gal with dog off leash going into the laundry room .

Didn't they have those same deckchairs on The Love Boat?
Go back to Florida, Rick.
This is a residential community not a cruise ship.

Sight outside my window at 3:30 AM. Three Airbnbers coming into The building. Mounds of move out garbage on the loop, this garbage being there since yesterday. Add the Adirondack chairs and still get a dump.

As many people who have been visiting this blog and the TA Facebook page for years, there are a number of former cheerleaders who are now realists. They see what’s going on in this place and what used to be praise is now a true understanding of what Rick and crew really have planned for this place.

That is what wil happen with al these other cheerleaders, or they will be priced out of here. As for the main cheerleader who literally loves EVERYTHING -it appears he lives in an unrealistic world filled with unicorns and pots of gold at the end of the rainbow!

The noise pollution from the movie has begun. I can hear it over my TV.

STAND UP AND FIGHT said...

THIS IS STAND UP AND FIGHT

Conditions are worsening daily; attitudes of both "management" and too many people who live here (temporarily or permanently) are worsening daily as well.

REPORT: Keith Powell, our new councilman, seems to be doing Daniel Garodnick proud. As too many of us suspected, he's clearly doing NOTHING. And neither is the new State Assemblyman. As too many of us suspected, I too now believe they're bought off by REBNY, et al.

Three of us met with Keith on Tuesday, JUNE 5, 2018, WELL OVER A MONTH AGO NOW. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE; despite repeated phone calls to his office, including when the noise is occurring ("concerts," "movies," etc.), NOTHING IS BEING DONE.

He'd personally promised, during a phone conversation, that he was contacting HARVY EPSTEIN ("Tenant Advocate, Lawyer") to discuss how to deal with these aural and other depredations and illegalities. HE HAS NEVER GOTTEN BACK TO ME AND HIS STAFF ATTEMPTS TO PUT ME OFF.

EPSTEIN'S OFFICE HAS DONE ZERO, ZILCH, NADA UNLESS HE'S DOING IT IN SOME UNDERCOVER FASHION.

His staff is lying, as far as I can tell, because all I hear is that Keith is "unavailable" and so is his Community Liaison, Ben. When I question them, hard, regarding Keith's availability in an "emergency," such as word that a close family member has been in an automobile accident, OF COURSE THEY CAN CONTACT HIM.

But for me (and, by extension, ALL OF US)??? "He is unavailable." "He is at a meeting." "He is away doing DISTRICT WORK."

I had two particularly distasteful conversations with his staff members this evening as the MOVIES were on. His "chief of staff" and another young woman just talked sh*t to me. They were extremely polite in both tone and language. But sh*t it most certainly was.

I was clear that it is obvious to me that he doesn't give a good goddamn, is only in the pockets of REBNY, etc. because he HAS NOT EVEN HAD THE DECENCY TO BEHAVE WITH RESPECT BY SIMPLY CONTACTING ME TO TELL ME WHAT HE'S DONE AND HOW TRULY DIFFICULT IT IS TO HELP US.

I was insistent that simple courtesy would have sufficed: call me to report that he's up against some problems, obstacles, etc.

I got the usual insincere, lying crap that has become par for the course: they will pass long the message.

All the evidence is that he cares as much as Blackstone, and all of their servants, care.

37 DAYS SINCE WE MET WITH HIM AND NOTHING. AT LEAST OVER FOUR (4) WEEKS OF 4 NIGHTS A WEEK OF CRAP AND AURAL INVASION, ASSAULT, AND WORSE ON THE OVAL. That's over 16 "events" during which we have been told, in effect, "SCREW YOU, ASSHOLES!"

I later spoke to both our Security folks, and "Management." The same insane, Orwell doublespeak that is has become their trademark.

THERE ARE THINGS WE CAN DO TO STOP THIS INVASION AND ATTACK. People proposed plenty of independent actions weeks ago.

Anyone interested?

Oh, yes . . . I heard from another neighbor with BLACK MOLD IN THEIR SHOWER. That story is telling and ugly and will wait for another time.

I saw two winos occupying the new deck chairs in the Oval.
One was fast asleep, the other was clearly soused.
A couple of our crack Public Safety Team were surveying the scene unsure of how to react if at all.
Love those "amenities."
Now how about getting rid of the mattresses, dog shit, and insist upon carpeting in the apartments.
Now that would be an amenity worth crowing about.
Rick? Susan?

As for that TA Facebook.... I saw what the latest cheerleading was: about the movie yesterday. LOL. It is for kids, like children. They will go and see anything. Wanna bet?

The attendance was still very low compared to how many residents are in this complex. BTW, I was there...briefly. For the kids, it was nice. Something to do.

But, again, that is not what all this is about.

Waterside Plaza is being sold to PCV-ST Tenant Association Board developer partner Brookfield by owner Richard Ravitch, lawyer, politician and real estate developer and once head of MTA. The same MTA who is a very, very big and dubious part of the Stuy Town deal. This guys resume epitomizes everything that is wrong with the old establishment government. Some of the leases at Waterside are very telling just as the leases at Stuy Town would reveal a whole host of dubious practices.

PCV-ST Tenant Association Board,
Open the books, tell the truth to the tenants, publish the big, bragged about Marsh-Steinberg Illegal Hotel-Bed Bug report.

It is clear from the mocking attitude and favorable embracing of anything that management does, on the TA site that fighting anything here is a waste of time. I have never seen or heard such low class, ignorant, morons in my life. That is what is living here now . It is a list cause.

Powers is as corrupt as they come, yet so many people ate up his BS because he was someone with community roots. And he was a Democrat with more money than the others (thank you Real Estate!). People blindly voted for him because of the “D” and his name was recognized because of his harassing volunteers.

Garodnick was also a community man, and yet look what he did to us. People can be so stupid sometimes.

The TA is like mainstream media - providing a platform for divisiveness with their Facebook page. Some people love it here and some people hate it here, and it’s the most vocal on the two ends of the spectrum that go after each other like children.

As is the case on a national and local level, people no longer know how to have a decent dialogue with one another without without name calling and agenda pushing. Everyone is right about everything, and if someone disagrees it’s time for attack mode.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Cruise Ship Stuyvesant Town. I am joking, but not totally joking. It is just a matter of time before Stuy Five Cafe "opens" up to allow alcohol and "service" on the Oval. Some residents will be thrilled.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Problem is that I still see many violations as I go about the complex. And I hear the same BS from Management. These cheerleaders love it here and will do the master's bidding any time. These cheerleaders have no spine. Sorry.

I understand why people would want to live here. There are plenty of factors, and if you have children, the decision can be easier to make. I also live here, but more and more that decision is purely financial. I think others can be in the same boat.

That said, if it wasn't financial, and I could live anywhere I wanted, my choice would not be Stuy Town. New York City is changing a lot, and not for the better but for the rich.

Management loves that the city is becoming for the rich, and they hope to get these rich folks as tenants. Right now, I am kinda stuck here, and so are many others. Our "deal" is changing.

This is how Blackstone views the people living here.

PRIVATE EQUITY GIANT Blackstone Group is helmed by Trump booster Stephen Schwarzman, but the company has a bipartisan workforce. Senior Blackstone advisor William Mulrow, who does not work in the company’s Real Estate division, helped form a PAC to raise money for former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo’s prospective foray into national politics in 1987, and in the early 2000s, served as vice chair and chair of the New York State Democratic Party. In the midst of a lucrative career on Wall Street, he left Blackstone in 2015 to serve as Andrew Cuomo’s secretary and top adviser. He returned to the private equity firm in April 2017 after leaving his job at the governor’s office, and is now chair of Cuomo’s re-election campaign, responsible mainly largely for courting new, big-dollar donors.

Mulrow was featured in a New York Magazine profile of his Wall Street fraternity, Kappa Beta Phi, performing one-half of what author Kevin Roose calls a “bizarre two-man comedy skit,” in which he was “dressed in raggedy, tie-dye clothes to play the part of a liberal radical,” with his counterpart “playing the part of a wealthy baron. They exchanged lines as if staging a debate between the 99 percent and the 1 percent.” In 2012, Cuomo appointed Mulrow as chair of the New York State Housing Finance Agency and the State of New York Mortgage Agency, just after his stint from 2005 to 2011 as a senior executive at Citibank Inc., one of the architects of the subprime mortgage crisis.

Mulrow’s office did not agree to provide a statement on the record.

There are a few residents who can be spoken of as diverse, but predominately this community is white tenants with Asians thrown in. It is NOT a diverse community. When MetLife hired Insignia Residential Group to push out the old and bring in new younger tenants and workers the community and property began to fall apart.

This place, when it was a community and not a dorm / hotel / corporate housing / city subsidized living property, ran well with only a Supervisor and staff of 20. then along came insignia residential group a mish mash of sell offs, mergers among incestuous companies Douglas Elliman, CB Richard Ellis, etc and the brokers got rich while the tenants got forced out by greedy politicians making deals for REBNY.

Whatever happened to this case and the brave woman who took on the greedy MetLife machine?

Background

2
In February 2000, when Tomassi was 60 years old, MetLife, Inc. hired her as Supervisor of Resident Services for the Peter Cooper Village and Stuyvesant Town housing complexes ("PCV/ST"), which MetLife owned. PCV/ST is a residential apartment complex in Manhattan comprising approximately 11,000 rental units. As Supervisor of Resident Services, Tomassi handled resident service requests and managed approximately 20 employees.

3
In 2001, MetLife outsourced the management of the PCV/ST complex to Insignia. On May 1, 2001, Tomassi ceased to be an employee of Met Life and became an employee of Insignia, retaining the title of Supervisor of Resident Services. In her new employment at Insignia, her supervisor was Steve Stadmeyer.

4
Tomassi testified to the effect that throughout the course of her employment with Insignia, Stadmeyer made frequent references to her age. Stadmeyer would begin sentences with "In your day and age . . ." and suggest that Tomassi related well to and "could understand the mentality of" PCV/ST's senior residents. Stadmeyer also repeatedly asked Tomassi whether she would be better off retiring so that she could "take time off to rest." According to Tomassi's deposition testimony:

5
[H]e would ask me if I ever thought about retiring. He would ask me if I thought I could keep up with some of the work. He asked me if I was tired of working. . . . [W]asn't it time to retire, did I ever think about retiring. Tired of the commute.

6
Tomassi asserted that Stadmayer made such age-related comments to her "once a month, [or] once every couple [of] months."

7
In the fall of 2001, Insignia began a project to draw young professionals to PCV/ST. To attract this new, younger clientele, Stadmayer made a point of hiring "younger, energetic, . . . attractive" employees. At the same time, Insignia instituted a policy to encourage better communication between management and residents. Stadmeyer promoted Tomassi to Director of Resident Services and Community Affairs, giving her responsibility for overseeing all internal and external communications. She also became responsible for handling community affairs and public relations matters, such as managing PCV/ST's senior center, handling community programs, and working with local politicians. Her salary was increased from approximately $59,000 per year to $65,000 per year in October 2001 and to $70,000 in early 2002, and she received a $7,500 performance bonus in April 2002.

Stuy Town Dorms Advertised on For Rent University Website by Compass Rock Realty Still Live on the Internet

Compass Rock got a big fat fee for increasing the revenue of the property over $600 million. They did it illegally. Should they keep the fee?

Compass Rock employees MacArthur and Sorise now work for Blackstone at another of their properties.

Between the dorms and the bunker what they did to this property is shameful.

This community is certainly not diverse. Maybe the poster was consider the outsiders coming in. In fact , this community is becoming predominantly Asian.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

As I have posted and have seen, mostly white. Yes, there are Asians in here, and sometimes a lot, and the third language that Stuy Town deals in, is Mandarin. Stuy Town considers them "good neighbors" who won't complain. But still white. This community is certainly not diverse.

BTW, I have seen almost no, if not none, of the Asians at these events. They have better taste.

I made the mistake of going out before 8pm and past the Oval. Boy, was the "music" loud and screechy. How does anyone living near that area, put up with this crap?

At least the "music" told me I must contact Management tomorrow morning. Yes, I know the response, but I still have to tell them that the music was too loud and obnoxious.

And, thanks to dear Rick, I am considering starting a new TA that will not be associated with the current inactive one and that will take matters a bit more seriously. Was the TA there at this musical event? Was Rick there? Anybody that matters to Management? What of R7 zoning?

My time is limited, but residents (some) shouldn't have to put up with some of the crap that seems to be illegal here and which Management considers perfectly fine.

They laugh at the music complaints. They mock the mattress and garbage pollution and consider management the finest we have had. And they are in the majority. Though ignorant, they have clout in their happy Hayduk world. This place is lost.

The concerts are obnoxious. I live far enough away that it’s a minor annoyance, but I’d be livid if my apartment were on the Oval.

Why not organize and disrupt it? Bring huge banners, shout down the performers, toss water balloons at them. Sure PS, maybe NYPD, will show up, but arresting tenants would be a major PR nightmare for management, so not very likely. Most probable outcome is they’d just pull the plug and tell everyone to go home.

Complaining is useless, shut it down! I’ll certainly join you.

Pure and simple......

Landlord harassment is the willing creation, by a or his agents, of conditions that are uncomfortable for one or more tenants in order to induce willing abandonment of a rental contract. Such a strategy is often sought because it avoids costly legal expenses and potential problems with eviction. This kind of activity is common in regions where rent control laws exist, but which do not allow the direct extension of rent-controlled prices from one tenancy to the subsequent tenancy, thus allowing landlords to set higher prices. Landlord harassment carries specific legal penalties in some jurisdictions, but enforcement can be very difficult or even impossible in many circumstances. However, when a crime is committed in the process and motives similar to those described above are subsequently proven in court, then those motives may be considered an aggravating factor in many jurisdictions, thus subjecting the offender(s) to a stiffer sentence.

Anonymous said...

Tenant Remedies

If a tenant feels they have been a victim of landlord harassment, there are several things the tenant can do.

Document the Incident: If a tenant believes he or she is being harassed by their landlord, he or she should document any alleged incidents that occur including the date, time and nature of the harassment. The tenant should keep any evidence of the harassment, including a voicemail, text message, email, letter, photo or video that captures the incident.

File Complaint: In many cities, a tenant can file a complaint with their local government. The agency will investigate the claim to see if harassment has occurred.

File a Restraining Order: With the proper evidence, a tenant can file to get a restraining order against the landlord. This usually occurs if the tenant wishes to move out of the rental property, since landlords and tenants will typically have to interact in the course of business.

Get an Injunctive Order from the Court to Stop the Behavior: A tenant can go to court to get a legal order from the court for the landlord to stop the harassing behavior.

Sue the Landlord: A tenant could also sue the landlord for damages due to the harassment.

Anonymous said...

Same story. Years later........

How Blackstone harassed a dictator...

As a last resort by the Special Forces, giant speakers, amplifiers, and a radio which blasted loud music were set up around the perimeter outside of the Embassy. The “secret weapon” was placed outside because it would violate International Law and be declared as an act of war against the Vatican.

Amusingly enough, the ludicrous psychological warfare actually worked. For days, AC/DC, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Billy Idol, and almost every popular hard rock song could be heard for miles, driving Noriega and the catholic priests insane. “Panama” from Van Halen, “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses and AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long” could be heard blaring at near-deafening levels.

I have predictions. Some good, some bad. As it is, Blackstone owns the property and can, if they want to, put in a thousand chairs in the Oval and have "concerts" most of the day. Again, they own the property. That said, they can not go against one's lease, but that is a legal, long-term engagement and the judge may well side with the landlord. As for "cheerleaders," you can bet there will be some, maybe a good many, cheering on PS, who, I assume will get involved with a "you can't do that" and enforce it soon.

I've already lodged a complain with Management, and I have little doubt that it will produce nothing except some excuse and a "promise." But we all have to lodge complaints, at least.

I've also spoken to a rep at our councilman's office about R7 zoning, and didn't give way until some time limit was set. Again, I don't expect much, but we have to make the attempt.

I also am writing a "prospectus" on why a new TA is needed. The other one is basically worthless.

Anonymous said...

Once again STR, your efforts are appreciated but will not affect change here. Nor will protests, signs, and balloons. I was one of the three who met with our councilman, thinking the only way to fight Blackstone was by political action. How wrong I was. There is no way. As you said, they own the property and can do as they please. Although the noise from the events grates on my ears and nerves, I see the worst issue here as garbage tossing all over the property. It is unsanitary and makes the place look like a slum. Many residents I talk to don’t seem to care.

Anonymous said...

I talk to many residents (market and RS) and they say they do care. The long timers say the place has descended into a noisy slum and those paying the high rents say they would never have come here if they knew what they were letting themselves in for.
