Happy Holidays from Stuyvesant Town

I saw this YESTERDAY. And it is still there and almost 10:40 am today. And Public Safety goes by this many, many times.

I had to go the PS office today to complain, so it will probably be picked up now.

I don't run this place, but....

I didn't want a photo of this online, particularly at this time, but this, and other things, is what I see every day. Sorry if it offends, but this is "our" community.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

As is said here many times: No one cares. Yes, if a resident complains, there will (?) be a response. Otherwise, hear nothing, see nothing, do nothing.

Anonymous said...

This is EXACTLY why Met Life NEVER permitted dogs here. More Ghetto conditions.

Anonymous said...

If you ask Ricks cheerleaders, they will say that the poop is being kept there because they will one day bloom into beautiful flowers. Dog crap is yet another amenity that makes this a great place to live. People who complain about the crap are nothing more than big bad scrooges.

The poop will bloom into even bigger flowers with the poop of dogs coming in from outside the property, which is why PS NEVER STOPS THEM!

Fido Has Got To Go said...

Look at the bright side.
At least, the dog owner had the class to take the dog OUTSIDE.
On many occasions, I see ( and have stepped in ) dog urine in the elevator.
And, of course, the occasional "turd' elegantly deposited in the stairwell.
So lighten up, STR, and look at the bright side!
Or better yet, follow the Tenants Association's advice and:
"JUST CALL RICK"

Blackstone knows that they have a BIG problem with dogs, but since Robbie made a change allowing dogs here, it has been downhill, regardless of what a wonderful pet a dog can be. So, Blackstone keeps up the pretense with "dog days," etc. Blackstone, our manager, has to do what they do because of Robbie and money (money, according to the current landlord)and, now, recent tradition. That genie will never be put back into the bottle. The only thing that would help is a moratorium on new dogs in this complex, but PS is not up to it and neither is Blackstone. So, dogs will continue and so will the crap, piss and barking.

Anonymous said...

STR, NOBODY runs this place. It is a shambles. Rick is useless. A totally useless piece of deadwood. PS don't do their job because they don't have to. There is nobody in charge here. That woman in charge of PS is bone idle.

Anonymous said...

Maybe we could scoop up the dog shit and deposit it outside of Rick's apartment?

Same old ideas and comments that just keeps getting shuffled around and nothing will ever change around here. Not worth even commenting on anymore.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Yes, but if no one comments? Then a free pass.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It would be wonderful for a real estate owner if no one comments. Then the "good" stuff would have no opposition. So, everything is perfect, or close to it, and all we would do is read the news/letters from Management. And, of course, the TA, but they would have to get rid of the complainers first.

Does Stuy Town Reporter plan to cover the ice rink new feature of hockey pretty much daily? Weekends were bad before but now every day pucks are slammed into walls. Rink making most noise it has ever made. It is not healthy for residents.

Anonymous said...

The important thing is not to just comment here, but make sure that everyone you meet hears what a shit job Management is doing and encourage them to pass it on. No carpets, unabated noise and disturbance, dog shit everywhere, destruction of grounds with nasty-assed commercial enterprises (which probably cost them more than they bring in!) and a Manager who just smiles and doesn't a toss. Rick's friendly smile is his version of the middle digit. As for the TA, not even worth a mention. A total non-entity.

Actions speak louder than words.

Only now and then, and when I hear it. Sorry to learn that the noise is more frequent.

One more time: We are not helpless. There are actions which can be taken.

E-mail me: quietenjoymentnow.com

If you are afraid that I am one of "them," I can find ways to prove to you that I am anything but. You will need to do the same.

As for "that woman in PS" - the chief - Fran Martin: she most assuredly is NOT "bone idle." I have never in my many decades and years of working in offices and other meeting-happy venues seen anyone Required to attend so MANY meetings.

Again, as I've written before, only in different words now:

No one here has done what needs to be done to stop the intense misery they inflict upon us BECAUSE WE ARE SCARED WE WILL BE DRIVEN OUT OF OUR HOMES. No one at Public Safety and Security opposes their bastard bosses because THEY KNOW THEY WILL LOSE THEIR LIVELIHOODS. Plenty of people have been either fired, and/or hounded out and hurt quite badly. Eddie Grace and Bill McClellan are just two examples.

You do not want to be evicted. They do not want to be fired.

Tremendous courage, integrity, and, usually, the assurance of lots of support are required to STAND UP AND FIGHT.

Isn't that the area where food is sold during the green market times? I wonder if the dept. of health could get involved.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Close to it, yes.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Even though it is "against the law," I have seen many times dogs at the greenmarket right next to the food. And PS can be right there. No one cares.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>You do not want to be evicted. They do not want to be fired.<<

True. But, realistically, eviction is not a possibility, but being fired is. A company restrains its workers by phony smiles and threats usually not said but implied.

Anonymous said...

Even though it is "against the law," I have seen many times dogs at the greenmarket right next to the food. And PS can be right there. No one cares.

I have seen this, too. I asked a PS officer about it recently and he said that no one in management told him that it wasn’t OK. Since I have also seen many dogs at the Union Square Greenmarket, maybe it is OK. Or maybe it isn’t and those in charge of the Union Square Greenmarket just look the other way. However, I do believe that, at first, management here was not allowing dogs near the food or at least gave lip service to that notion. Like everything else here, when they saw that they couldn’t easily enforce that rule, they gave up and abandoned it.

Eddie Grace and Bill McClellan are no innocent victims of Blackstone's Schwarzman.

According to Stuy Town Pups Facebook, a dog ate an edible off the ground in PC and got poisoned.

If something is against NYC rules, then PS doesn't have to go to Management. PS is simply afraid and is not doing their job. Not a surprise.

And, yes, there was a time when signs prohibited dogs from being so close to the produce at our greenmarket. I don't know if the signs are still there.

Regarding eviction:

If residents here were not afraid of eviction and/or serious harassment, then each and every one of us would use our names.

I would. The resident who has been operating this blog for many years would, I would think. Each poster would identify herself or himself every time they post.

Unless they had some other compelling reason to hide their identity, they would be out there, in public, so to speak. They would "show their face," as I recently read about in another venue.

A brief conversation with Richard Hayduk the summer of 2017: He expressed puzzlement and hurt and then, finally . . . bitterness and outrage because posters here are "Anonymous." He told me that they (we!) are COWARDS. When I explained to him that "Anonymous" are all afraid of the landlord, his face contorted with anger as he spit out at me (not literally!) that they (Blackstone) doesn't hurt/evict people. Tishman Speyer did so but (Blackstone) doesn't do that, so we have no reason to be afraid. And are therefore COWARDS.

I am sure I'm going to read all sorts and kinds of disagreements and protests here. It seems that I am routinely reading differing opinions from mine these days. It seems to me that we are nowhere near the point that people are willing to show themselves and join together to end their own misery.

I will tell you that I've contacted an organization of community activists in our neighborhood who might be interested in helping us fight against Blackstone's depredations. I will tell you that other plain ordinary human beings in Harlem, New York did indeed stand up to Blackstone some years ago in organized and very public activities against them.

My many-years-dead father taught me to fight against injustice, against predators. He instructed me that "You can fight City Hall" (and win). He did just that, with no money and no connections. My family put themselves on the line routinely for jobs and decent conditions, for literally dying children.

When I was but a mere 20-something I won a case in court against the most reviled man in the country these days.

I don't think I can successfully oppose Blackstone myself. I do believe if I were one of many, we could.

And for whomever believed they were insulting me recently by referring to either me or my opinions by using the word, "jackass" . . . well, on behalf of all male donkeys (jackasses), I take offense. Donkeys are innocent creatures. And much more honorable than most humans.

Once more: write to me, meet me - you might be pleasantly surprised:

No. That caveat is NOT stated anywhere on the page, which constitutes a violation of the zoning law for this property.

May I bring my dog to Greenmarket?

Most Greenmarkets are outdoors in public spaces, as such the presence of dogs and the responsibilities of dog owners are governed by NYC law. Mindful dog walkers with well-behaved, leashed dogs, are welcome in our outdoor markets. If you bring your dog, ensure he/she does not "mark" inside farm stands, and remember it can be a challenge to walk a dog in crowds and the tight spaces between tables.

https://www.grownyc.org/greenmarket/faq

Looks like dogs are allowed at outdoor Greenmarkets in NYC.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Dogs are definitely allowed, but... not too close to produce, like sniffing it. Again, there was a time when signs informed dog owners what to do.

Well, if he used that word, I am disappointed and he should know better.

As someone who started and maintains the blog, it was begun years ago, before Blackstone. I allowed posters to maintain an anonymity then, and I haven't changed. Certain residents favor that policy for whatever reason. Maybe they don't trust any landlord, no matter what.

But...Hayduk and Company know who I am because I've outed myself to them. Perhaps that "choice" was made by me when the previous landlord had Public Safety monitor just who I was.

Instead of being concerned about me or the "cowards" who post here, Blackstone, Hayduk and Company should be more concerned about the illegality that goes on. I'm not talking about the outsiders who come into the complex to do harm, I'm talking about the illegality that blatantly goes on here all the time. If Hayduk has trouble recognizing this, he can speak to me. In fact, my challenge to him and Company is stated on the main page, atop.

Scene at the GREENMARKET:
Last week I saw a dog take a sh*t perhaps 5 feet from a booth selling vastly over-priced veggies.
Nobody said or did a thing.
The patrons just walked around the mound.
I called a Public Safety Officer over and he just shrugged, "What can I do? Stop all the dog owners? Would only cause trouble.
Who needs that?"
Amazingy, who do I see stroll by?
That's right, Susan Steinberg, President of the Tenants Association.
I asked, "Susan, do you see that? It's unsanitary and pretty disgusting. Shouldn't it be cleaned up? What should I do?"
Deep in thought, Susan pondered my query, thought for few minutes, then lite up an exclaimed,
"Aha! I've got it!
JUST CALL RICK!"

For what possible reason does Just Call Rick feel it's necessary for him to identity residents pointing out obvious dogshit everywhere?

Hey Rick. You have eyes. There's dogshit everywhere. There are banned dogs everywhere. Permanent dogshit stained common area carpets are disgusting. Dogshit and dogpiss in elvators and stairwells is commonplace. You have eyes. Why do you need my name?

I should Just Call Rick so Rick can just call me back to cover himself documenting his response to my call?

I don't want to and should never have to call Rick about dogshit everywhere.

That is absolutely disgusting! The PS Officer was not doing his job - he could at least have told the dog owner to clean up the shit - and that is definitely a Public Health violation.

I stopped going to the greenmarket a while ago because the produce is over-priced, not always as fresh as one would expect, people are picking it over AND there are always fucking dogs sniffing around and relieving themselves around the stalls. It is absolutely disgusting!

I've stopped calling and notifying Rick and Company at that Thursday outdoor tent when I saw it was basically useless. Yes, the nods are there, the writing down of complaints is there, but so what? It is meant to "keep the customer satisfied."

And many times I have stated that it is NOT the responsibility of residents to inform the head office of anything, unless it is an emergency situation. That's why Blackstone has PAID people working for it, including the manager. It is the DUTY of Blackstone to monitor this place and report to us, the residents, not the other way around.

I have some friends from the UK staying with me for the holidays. The last time they were here was 16 years ago. We went to the Oval last night to see the decorations and they were absolutely horrified at how stark and ugly the Oval is. The last time they saw it it was filled with trees. They commented on the "electric pylon" covered in lights masquerading as a Christmas tree". We almost got mowed down by speeding bikes coming from every direction. The people who haven't lived before the destruction have no idea as to how beautiful the Oval used to be and "what a cock-up" (as my friends put it!) it is now. Also, as my apartment was freezing last night, I was asked "Have they taken out your central heating as well?" We won't be going by the Oval again! They were almost in tears at what a drastic change its undergone from "tree-filled beauty, even in winter, to stark naked ugliness."

SMOKE:

THEY CANNOT DO WHAT THEY WANT IN THEIR OWN APARTMENT IF IT AFFECTS, NEGATIVELY, OTHER TENANTS.

(1) IT IS A LEASE VIOLATION AND THEY CAN BE EVICTED IF THEY DO NOT CEASE AND DESIST.

THIS IS FROM STUYVESANT TOWN, ITSELF, AND NOT ANY ATTORNEYS OR POLICE.

I HAVE HAD MORE THAN ONE SMOKER SERVED WITH NOTICE.

So . . . insist that Public Security visit, immediately, the offending apartment. Insist that they then knock on your door to confirm they've been there and have warned the tenant/s. Call or visit Public Security in 2 Stuyvesant Oval to confirm that the report has been filed.

(2) DEAL WITH THE SMOKERS DIRECTLY. REPEATEDLY. PERSUASIVELY.

This works. Some of it works more slowly than other methods. But, repeated lease violations issued, and/or EXCEEDINGLY PERSUASIVE DIRECT COMMUNICATION on a CONSISTENT BASIS works.

Try it.

To those who write something to the effect to, "I don't give a damn what anyone does if it doesn't affect me in my apartment, I will ignore it:"

This is foolish, selfish, and counterproductive.

I can guarantee you, if there are enough "SQUEAKY WHEELS," there will be a response. One of the keys is NUMBERS. And even if there are only comparatively low numbers of "squeaky wheels," if us squeaky wheels are noisy and active, there will be a response.

Pot is still illegal and the stench is horrible. On the other hand cigarettes, pipes and cigars are perfectly legal and these are not no-smoking buildings. Smokers can take measures to prevent the smell from going into other apartments (air purifiers, etc.,) but the fact remains that they are not breaking the law. I don't smoke (used to), but I am getting a little sick of the constant attacks on those who do smoke. Life isn't perfect and there is always going to be some annoyance from neighbors, whether it's loud talking, loud music/television, taking showers at 5 AM or smoking. Unless noise and fumes are unreasonably intense and disruptive, I say live and let live.

“...EXCEEDINGLY PERSUASIVE DIRECT COMMUNICATION on a CONSISTENT BASIS works.”

Management asks that we not communicate directly with other tenants about problems we might be having with them, so do so at your own risk. You might be accused of harassment.

Stand Up and Fight said...

8:17 a.m.:

I have read this and heard this hundreds of times, not just here, but in similar situations.

OK. "Harassment." "My own risk."

Does anyone here understand what is happening?

Plain English: this is a highly effective tactic employed by people who are, to put it bluntly, and to use an old-fashioned term: sick in the head.

It is probably thousands of years old, likely much older than that. It is a method of controlling people's behaviors, speech and thoughts.

"I am going to do something that is harmful to you. You are going to cooperate with my harmful actions. If you don't, I am going to hurt you much more. You will REALLY BE IN TROUBLE THEN BECAUSE I SAID SO."

(Read the genre of "True Crime" books or watch TV shows or movies in which the psychopath kidnaps someone, usually a young woman, and restrains them, hurts them horrifically, and warns them when they cry or scream, or plead for mercy, 'You are annoying me now. STOP IT OR I AM REALLY GOING TO HURT YOU.')

In the case of Blackstone's minions, they have been instructed to tell us it is for our own good and to keep us from BEING HURT by some jackass who is HARASSING us with noise, dog waste, the threat of vehicular homicide/manslaughter/severe injury on a sidewalk here, etc. BLACKSTONE ('"Public Safety," will handle it, dear resident. We will make it all better for you. If you in fact attempt to protect or defend yourself; if you attempt to protect your child or other family members, or even strangers, from BEING RUN OVER, or BECOMING PHYSICALLY SICK FROM LACK OF SLEEP, or BECOMING SMEARED WITH DOG SHIT or other threats to your health, life, wellbeing, peace, YOU MAY BE ARRESTED FOR HARASSMENT.") . . .

(Blackstone) is doing a major number on you.

I have had many Security Guards here warn me, earnestly, from DOING ANYTHING TO PROTECT MYSELF FROM EXTREME AND ONGOING DAILY HARASSMENT.

Blackstone and other collections of psychopathic human creatures do this routinely. They become tiny little, but highly effective and damaging despots, tyrants. They decide on policies to HURT YOU and then they make the rules and heaven forbid you from protecting yourself or others.

Blackstone and the terrorized people who are doing their bidding have deliberately created hellish situations here, multiple hellish situations. (Examples, results of their actions: Suicide, anyone? Death teams invading your apartment hours or a day or two after you shuffled off this mortal coil? Bogus eviction notices; refusal to cash rent checks so they can haul you into eviction proceedings?)

Blackstone increased, exponentially, noise, filth, physical dangers of many kinds. Everyone reading this could list many examples.

When it comes to behaving like most healthy animals on the planet, and defending yourself, even by simply TALKING to the person/people hurting you, your overlord and master, Blackstone says, "YOU CAN'T."

I was told this one day last week by a "higher authority" here and said the word 2 years olds say routinely, "no."

"No" worked.

Nearly 3 years ago, I was threatened with "arrest" because I'd attempted to stop a situation that was causing extreme suffering for many hours when Security did nothing.

Longer ago than that, one brave and intelligent Security Guard said to me, "What you did was good. Sometimes you have to take things into your own hands." May all that is good in life come to that dear man.

"Shut your mouth, play dead, ignore everyone who thinks THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO INJURE YOU because I, Blackstone, said you CANNOT stop someone from harming you."

Please, please, please stop believing what is told you and stop acceding to what hurts you.

Peter W is a joke and a jerk. He is emblematic of a "management" that seeks only adoration and fawning from tenants and does not have the will or the savvy to rectify the many, many, many egregious violations against our quality of life, health and peace of body and mind.

This has to be the most uncaring, dysfunctional (maybe nonfunctional would be a better description) weak apology for a management we have ever had. Rick is an all-talk-no-action loser. He is in the wrong job. He couldn't manage a raffle stand, let alone a multi-unit, sprawling apartment complex in what is probably the world's most challenging city. In fact, I doubt he could manage a rooming house in Crudcraw, Alabama. He's in the wrong business and we have to suffer or it.

Peter W never studied sales and marketing. Certainly not real estate sales and marketing! He's a total ass and if he thinks anybody's going to recommend renting in this dump to anybody else (especially a friend!), the Mr. W is suffering from some type of delusional psychosis and should get help. He should also be let go from the job he is doing so badly.

They do not want you talking to each other because why? No other building in the city has a problem with that. ???????????????

Peter W. is Peter Walterspiel, to whom I have spoken on more than one occasion - in person. He reminds me a good deal of some of Blackstone's thugs (pardon me: lawyers, and their assistants), whom I have also dealt with personally and witnessed evicting some good people. One of the lawyers looks a bit like him, as well. This man behaved in an exceedingly and practiced UGLY manner - in person.

Go look for him (Peter Walterspiel) on Facebook and on the Stuyvesant "Team" page (I forget where it is, precisely.)

There is something very wrong with him, I believe. A couple of years back, when I complained at the "Oval Office" about whichever misery they were inflicting upon us, he became snide as all hell and asked me with dripping condescension if I wanted to then complain to him about the fountain.

I've written about him previously. I believe he is a bitterly unhappy man.

(Read the genre of "True Crime" books or watch TV shows or movies in which the psychopath kidnaps someone, usually a young woman, and restrains them, hurts them horrifically, and warns them when they cry or scream, or plead for mercy, 'You are annoying me now. STOP IT OR I AM REALLY GOING TO HURT YOU.')"

Sounds like Michael Cohen threatening one of Trump's whores!

Come to think of it, he was a slumlord who harassed and terrorized tenants in buildings he owned and in buildings his sleazy little friend, Jared Kushner, owned.

Yeah but they can prey upon the unknowing and distracted 20 somethings who do not know better and just sign sign sign. Free wifi! That's who they want here.

I think that the harassment warnings are basically designed to protect and make market raters content. If management is pulling in 4 grand on an apartment whether it is a dorm or not they would prefer that residents do not complain to or confront them. Money talks here.

I make sure that everyone I know and everyone they know is made aware of what this place is really like. And I know a lot of people! I wish I could get $1,000 for everybody who I've turned off ever even thinking of rent in this dump!

Well, yes, I know him, too. Had a meeting with him, etc. Whether he is happy or unhappy, or just middle of the road, I don't know, and I don't think it's important. What is important is that he is a company man, so he does what the company expects of him. As for that Yelp page, he answers at least, which many companies do not do. I don't care for the answers, but, again, he is a company man.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

When I look around, and I see the infractions and laziness here, I have to file it, ultimately, under Blackstone. The company people work for Blackstone. Blackstone is responsible both for the good and the bad.

Anonymous said...

They don’t care if people are told not to rent here. Endless pool of students, city subsidies and Airbnb . Also company apartments.

Anonymous said...

I agree. Hayduk may not be the greatest manager and this Peter guy may be sleazy but they are good company men. It is all ultimately Blackstone.

STR, we could have been bought by worse than Blackstone. I am not defending Blackstone in any way, but I do know for an absolute fact (I worked for the lawyers working the deal) that Wilbur Ross and Fred Lefrak were interested in getting together to buy the property before Blackstone bought it. If we had been bought by Lefrak and Ross we would be really up Shit Creek without a paddle because Ross and Lefrak are two of the sleaziest of the sleaziest in the RE world. Blackstone may be no angels, but compared with might have taken over the property, we got away lucky.

I know a lot of people were hoping that the TA could buy the property on behalf of tenants, but that would never have worked either. Only a mega-company like Blackstone could afford the place. Look at what happened when TS bought it - it was more than they could handle and much more than they could afford. What really pisses me off is that TS walked away from the distressed property and left us paying off their debt. I believe that that is the reason the property is so money-grubbing these days. MetLife ran the property as a fully rent-stabilized property and they ran it well and, believe it or not, they turned a profit.
I suppose the greedy Robert Benmoshe had a lot to do with the sale at such a ridiculously inflated price. The only decent thing he did in his life was croak.

It’s pretty obvious that they turn a blind eye to anyone paying “market rate,” and are paying their rent. If those people want to use AirBnB, that’s fine. If they don’t want to carpet their apartments, that’s fine. If they want to throw all night parties, that’s fine. All is fair game as long as they keep paying their $5k rent.

What they should be worried about is the large number of brand new buildings with unbeatable amenities in hip new neighborhoods (LIC, Hudson Yards, NOMad, Essex Crossings, Two Bridges etc). These are the areas and buildings that millennials and NYU students will be flocking to in the very near future. Trends are already showing this, and don’t think management isn’t noticing.

I think It’s only a matter of a few years before we see the student population start to decrease in terms of renting here on their own. That means one of two things - management gives larger bulk leases to NYU, therefore negating any potential decreases in the student population, or they bulk lease out to the city. They both seem like disasters.

Hayduk has been a Blackstone company man since 2004. Who knows what he did before that but he fits right in with Blackstone culture.

Blackstone "owned" Hayduk's former place of business Boca Resorts

In Fort Lauderdale, Huizenga started a garbage hauling business, as his grandfather had done in Chicago in 1894.[3] In 1962, he started the Southern Sanitation Service by borrowing US$5,000 from his father and sweet-talking with a rival trash hauler into selling him used trucks.[7] Beginning with a single garbage truck in 1968, and pursuing customers in an aggressive manner,[15] he created Waste Management, Inc., an entity that would eventually become a Fortune 500 company. Huizenga purchased many independent garbage hauling companies; by the time he took the company public in 1972, he had completed the acquisition of 133 small-time haulers. In the early 1980s, he had grown Waste Management into one of the largest waste-disposal companies in the United States. In 1984, he left the company and soon again, he was buying companies including suppliers of portable toilets and water bottles for home coolers.

Huizenga repeated the process with Blockbuster Video, acquiring a handful of stores in 1987,[17] with the company becoming the leading movie-rental chain in the U.S. by 1994. After a process of building and acquiring auto dealerships, in 1996, he formed AutoNation, which became the nation's largest automotive dealer.

In 2004, he sold Boca Resorts, a group of hotels that included The Hyatt Pier 66 Hotel[19] and the Radisson Bahia Mar Hotel & Marina[20] in Fort Lauderdale, The Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton, Florida, and several others in Naples, Florida and Arizona to private equity firm Blackstone as part of a $1.25 billion deal.

OK: "It is all ultimately Blackstone."

On the one hand, it is true. A worker the other day tried to hide his smile when he told me that he is ignorant of what goes on here as he also said to me, "It's my paycheck." Especially if other life forms are dependent upon you - family members, other lives (dogs, cats, fish, birds, et al), you fear to oppose those who pay you to do their bidding - which is most of us. Most of us are, or have been, wage slaves.

On the other hand: "I'm just following orders." And, "it's just business, nothing personal," and "I am paid to do this" brings us, in part: wars, slaughters, atrocities, prostitution as last resort, destruction of our natural environment, and lots more.

As I wrote yesterday: "No" is an excellent word which we do not use often enough to stop emotionally deranged people from hurting us.

. . . yes, it IS Blackstone (which is simply the name of a collection of people).

Why aren't we saying NO to Blackstone and their representatives? Same reason: afraid to lose our homes.

Please watch the news, or read the news. Some Europeans have been in the streets saying "NO!" for weeks now.

I contacted the Tenants Association for assistance.

This place was built for returning veterans from WW2 who had risked their lives fighting for freedom from the likes of what we have running the country now. I'm betting that none of the Blackstone founders and their ilk did a day of service to anybody but themselves.

Anonymous said...

They are doing both now on a pretty large scale.

Anonymous said...

Yes and some of them are being arrested

Large bulk leases are presently being given to NYU and other schools. In addition, there is already subsidizing going on. I am positive that my neighbors are not paying over 3600 a month for their apartment. Public assistance has come to their door. In addition, they have bulk leases with corporations and possibly Airbnb. They have it made. And to the poster who said that we could have gotten worse than Blackstone, I doubt it. They are the same as Tishman Speyer and Compass Rock, just put up a benevolent facade.

Re:Pot smoking

Even when you call PS re: pot reeking out of someone's apartment and the floor stinks from it
PS will say "I can't smell anything." they must have some olfactory blockages if they can't smell something so vile that seeps into other apartments to boot.

What's left to do is leave suggestions to these potheads to put towels on the inside of their doors to prevent the stinking smell of pot from affecting everyone else on the floor.

We do miss him though.

Big loss IMO in the closure of Petite Abeille and Vamos. The kids renting here are unhappy and will revolt and move away. The area sucks. Greed catches up with you eventually and this neighborhood is not only trashy, much too far from a subway and without any decent hangouts bars or dining places. Hard pass for sure.

As for, "we are powerless" and "how" do we fight this "big company" . . . I will continue to respond:

Please write to me at quietenjoymentnow.com. I would be exceedingly happy to meet you, and TALK about it. I've been asking for this for many months now.

Thank you.

No heat: why not contact one another, form a group of people receiving no heat or insufficient heat or intermittent heat. Document all of the deliberately evasive and passive-aggressive tactics (thermometers, etc.) when contacting "Management."

Open up a separate account in the bank into which you deposit your monthly rent at the appropriate rent-paying time.

THEN, when the m*f*ers issue eviction notices for non-payment, GO TO COURT AS A GROUP WITH ALL OF YOUR DOCUMENTATION.

THAT INCLUDES PROOF OF ALL OF THE MONEY YOU'VE DEPOSITED FOR RENT AND WITHHELD FOR LACK OF HEAT/ENOUGH HEAT.

Maybe, just maybe, the Landlord and Housing judge will decide to ORDER these bastards to provide consistent and high enough heat throughout the cold weather.

IF YOU ARE SUMMONED TO COURT ONLY INDIVIDUALLY (divide and conquer), each and every one of you go to each and every proceeding.

I believe that a number of tenants with the EXACT SAME PATTERNS AND PROBLEMS REGARDING HEAT will impress even corrupt judges.

Just so you don't accuse me of not taking my own advice, I've been in court with at least one other "owner" of this place.

And again, I won in court against a landlord - many, many, many years ago - against a man many people in this country and other countries hate and/or think is a joke.

The period between October 1 and May 31 is Heat Season. During this time, the City requires building owners to provide tenants with heat according to the following rules:

Between 6 AM and 10 PM, if the outside temperature falls below 55 degrees, the inside temperature must be at least 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
Between 10 PM and 6 AM, the inside temperature must be at least 62 degrees Fahrenheit at all times. There is no outside temperature requirement.

https://www1.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/service/1815/residential-heat-and-hot-water-requirements

Blackstone claims to be giving MORE heat than the city requires. So, unless your heat is consistently below the above requirements, you will NOT win in court.

They are not giving more heat than required. My apartment which was toasty all last winter and even last month is starting to chill up. The heat comes on and off. When I go to my work place it is much warmer as are restaurants. They are giving the minimum and less and less.

Is this a cold water flat?
The "projects?"
NYCHA treats its tenants better.
