Our landlord, BLACKSTONE, can't handle Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. There is a lack of enforcement of certain "rules," and no amount of notice to this alleviates the problems. We are continually being told half-truths and fabrications. And we have no viable Tenants organization, despite our TA asking for dues all the time. So far, the politicians have proven to be basically useless. A typical New York story.

Stuy Town Ads on Facebook continue! This time it is a long ad with a few photos. Must have cost Blackstone some good money, but, what the hell, as long as you keep on getting rooms rented at an "affordable" price.

The people behind "Stuy Town" the trademark are there to sell the place, so you are going to see a lot of stupid advertising from them. They actually have a comment section on their Facebook ads, but delete comments that are not positive and ban the poster from further comments, even if the poster knows more about Stuy Town and has lived here much longer than they have. I would never trust those comments to be 100% truthful.
To show you how stupid the people behind those ads for Stuy Town are, they mention and picture The Ice, our own rink, while The Ice is now disassembled.
They are never going to sell the place to renters . The ads are a smokescreen. They know that this is and will be a city subsidy, student community . Increasingly so. The ads are a joke. We know the truth. Nobody will be renting these overpriced apartments in this dump.
I was doing a quick load for my son who needed to have a certain shirt or he would die, yada, yada, yada. So anyway while I'm down there I hear one woman tell another that she was almost knocked down by a dog that was chasing a ball thrown by his owner right down the path at the playground where everyone walks. The other woman responded that she knew the man as he is her neighbor and that he does this all the time, basically every day and he brags he doesn't care about the rules here because he is NYPD and the rules don't apply to him. She added he routinely drinks beer and smokes cigarettes in the stairwell and on the main floor stoop. She said her husband once found him sleeping on the stoop with a cigarette in his hand and he just left him there. She went on to say that no one on the floor cares for him but they like his wife and their kids. Then she said something that just left me speechless. She said and I quote that "he was partners with that woman Frances, you know the head of security, and that's why he can do whatever he wants without caring". I knew this place was full of corruption but that one left me shaken. How much more exists that we have no clue about?
They may seem brainless but they are profiting from these deals with NYU and the city . Not so dumb. They know exactly what they are doing at our expense.

Re: Apartment inspections. The landlord can't go into your drawers, etc. At most, the landlord can just check your walls and rugs. Sometimes, the landlord will take down the serial number of your stove and refrigerator.
Smoke detectors will also be checked. The big thing now as per a new inspection law (Reg #55?) is an inspection for mold. And BTW, they can access your closets.

Move here if you want to be plagued by a constant barrage of noises from all ends. I did not believe this before moving in last year but it is unbearable. Initially, no one was living above us when we first moved here from Chelsea. After tenants moved in we noticed even when cleaning just a broom or mop the sound below was ridiculous. It's not even their fault. They were just mopping last week but it can sound like a tunnel of acoustics underneath. I politely asked the tenant what was going on to confirm this and she was just mopping! There is definitely a problem with the floor here being extremely thin and now told its also dangerous. I do not fault the neighbor those working on the property and Blackstone should facilitate repair and re floorings as soon as possible.

Was chatting with a couple of Market Rate tenants (not students) in the laundry room this afternoon. They can't wait to get out because of the noise and the poor quality "appliances" that come with their apartments. They said they intend to warn as many people as they can that this dump is a "must to avoid" because it is a total rip-off and has the shittiest, most inept and uncaring management they have ever come across These were professional people who have lived in MR apartments elsewhere and know what they are talking about.

You could offer me free meals three times a day there for a year and I vow I would not even contemplate going in there. It is a disgusting place. But it fits right in with the rest of the trash and squalor that smothers Stuyvesant Town.
I also spoke to students and can agree they are unhappy with the property and the megaamount of noisy problem themselves. Babies are babies but the wall between one girl and a neighbor is thin as crepe & she hears the baby wailing all night. People people at the very fucking least, don't put beds on walls. Put furniture, shelving, barrier as our walls are not regular walls.

I will try to be there, but I already have spotted the typical BS from Management, and consider this a step to a "done deal." Sorry, but that is my opinion from watching this.... So, if some residents say no, what then? I can promise that the then will be "we have listened to both good and bad, but since there are many residents in favor..." You know the rest. As I said, I consider this BS, as with several other statements from Management/Hayduk, but what can one do really? Okay, say no, and offer opinions why, but my feeling is, it doesn't matter....

The DOE StuyTown comments could have something to do with the pre-approved - pre-arranged photo opps in April 2016 Town & Village while StuyTown is being turned into a luxury dorm property investment. Photo opps that happened mere months before the TA oozed gratitude for Blackstone in Town & Village.
Also the university scandal Operation Varsity Blues that is just now beginning to be exposed where high school students are getting into colleges by their parents fraud tactics has ties here in StuyTown.
There is a lot of money, a lot of "investment" leases and a lot of leases-lumped together in StuyTown.
Major unions have pension investments here including teacher's union.

In recent years StuyTown is a current subject of "research" by high school, research universities and grad student studies.
The student papers are just now beginning to be published.
StuyTown residents are interviewed by the students as part of their research. This is public knowledge and now published public knowledge (link).
It is all part of the justification to replace StuyTown as it currently exists with a new developed community and property.

Re: Apartment inspections. The landlord can't go into your drawers, etc. At most, the landlord can just check your walls and rugs. Sometimes, the landlord will take down the serial number of your stove and refrigerator.

The short answer is that Management (Rick Hayduk and Blackstone) want approval. A special "town hall" at the Community Center will happen on April 3, Wednesday, 6:30 to pacify tenants who may have concerns.
Those who oppose beer and wine being sold at the cafe are urged to attend and voice reasonable issues.
Get this, though. The Community Board 6 may have a debate BEFORE this tenant meeting.

Move here if you want to be plagued by a constant barrage of noises from all ends. I did not believe this before moving in last year but it is unbearable. Initially, no one was living above us when we first moved here from Chelsea. After tenants moved in we noticed even when cleaning just a broom or mop the sound below was ridiculous. It's not even their fault. They were just mopping last week but it can sound like a tunnel of acoustics underneath. I politely asked the tenant what was going on to confirm this and she was just mopping! There is definitely a problem with the floor here being extremely thin and now told its also dangerous. I do not fault the neighbor those working on the property and Blackstone should facilitate repair and re floorings as soon as possible.

I agree about what blackstone might consider "unreasonable." They are entirely without reason, though.
Regarding thin floors:
Isn't this a fairly new phenomenon? Isn't this solely the result of the constant destruction of walls, appliances, floors to "improve" and renovate" the spaces in order to lure more people here?
Are not the floors being thinned by the frequent "work" on them?

Agreed. We can thank Keith Powers for the change in CB6. They were once a reputable organization, concerned with the collective good. Not so much anymore. Their terrible decisions have dropped real estate values in the neighborhood. Good luck selling a condo or coop with a 24/7 heliport right outside your windows.

Was chatting with a couple of Market Rate tenants (not students) in the laundry room this afternoon. They can't wait to get out because of the noise and the poor quality "appliances" that come with their apartments. They said they intend to warn as many people as they can that this dump is a "must to avoid" because it is a total rip-off and has the shittiest, most inept and uncaring management they have ever come across These were professional people who have lived in MR apartments elsewhere and know what they are talking about.

A floor will finally cave in from being ground down to a thin film, or there will be a fire in one of those open-plan units where the stove is in the fucking living room, or there will be a catastrophic fire caused by a space heater due to the fact that the vermin refuse to supply adequate heat. Something will happen and when it does, I hope that the filth who runs this place is handed serious jail time and Blackstone becomes as held in contempt as the closely-named outfit: Blackwater. Both are mercenary organizations that trade in and feed of human blood.
It will be covered up. This company knows how to cultivate good press and censor bad press.
Nobody who has any respect for their gut will eat at the e-Coli Five Turd Cafe. It is an absolutely filthy home. I went in there once, saw all the flies on the food and almost threw up. You could offer me free meals three times a day there for a year and I vow I would not even contemplate going in there. It is a disgusting place. But it fits right in with the rest of the trash and squalor that smothers Stuyvesant Town.
I also spoke to students and can agree they are unhappy with the property and the megaamount of noisy problem themselves. Babies are babies but the wall between one girl and a neighbor is thin as crepe & she hears the baby wailing all night. People people at the very fucking least, don't put beds on walls. Put furniture, shelving, barrier as our walls are not regular walls.
