A Law Unto Itself

Blackstone, ST Management, Beam Living, Public Safety, and the Tenants Association have all failed law-abiding residents of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village. We could add a few more names, like our local politicians, newspapers/TV stations, the city's own DOB, but residents of ST and PCV are being duped or ignored by the above. Yes, there are certain things that are right here. It is not all bad for sure. But outright lies or misrepresentations are frequently said or adhered to by the very people and organizations that should help us.

I have lived here for over 30 years, and I challenge anyone of the above to prove otherwise. I have photos (lots) and my own "seeing is believing" experiences. The important attitude of these organizations is to have a happy face--and lie. Every person or organization listed above has lied to residents and to me. Many residents now realize that they are being lied to and refuse the Kool Aid being offered.

Sure, if there is some serious trouble, Public Safety will help, but not in the "small" laws that build up and up and create indifference in residents or even hatred. I cannot go to or call the above organizations or people without preparing myself for the standard BS that all of them give.

Basically, Blackstone and Management are a law unto itself. They do not enforce several city laws and their own. Laws to them are just for talk and promotion. The reality is that a lot of things are just accepted, regardless of Blackstone's own law, regardless of what New York City/State mandates.

This coming year more pressure is going to be put on the above individuals and organizations. From my part, it will be done very legally. As we know, "legal" is ignored here. The fight is to get things that are legal actually legal.

Well said, STR. Very well said. I've been here for over 40 years and I know what it was like to live in Stuyvesant Town when it was clean, well run and an absolute pleasure to live in. Sure, there were shortcomings. For many years we had no a/c, so the summers were uncomfortable, but we had plenty of heat in the winter. The grounds were immaculate and the Oval was a beautiful tree park that was an absolute please to behold and gave the place an air of being a bucolic oasis in the City. There were no dogs, but if there had been the owners would have been made to obey the rules, just as we all had to obey the rules. Not stupid rules, but rules that make living in a large community a civilized place where nobody was held hostage to anybody else's anti-social behavior.

We felt safe. The apartments were fireproof and fire laws were strictly adhered to. There were no open plan apartments where fire could spread; no squeezing in three or four times the number of people an apartment was designed for.

The laws governing civility were enforced. You could NOT party all night with loud music, screeching, braying, cursing drunken pals. Security enforced all the rules - those that affected our quality of life and those that ensured our safety. Security at that time were a well-trained. professional core of men who were quite omnipresent throughout the property and always very fast to get to an emergency.
'
Bicycle riding was not allowed on the property and we did not have to fear for our lives when we went walking around outside. There was no garbage strewn along the sidewalks - filthy, uncovered mattresses, broken furniture and the kind of stuff that you might except to see in rural Appalachia.

We didn't have stupid crappy "events" either and we didn't want or need them! The Community Center put on things that helped the elderly get out and enjoy life, but the Oval wasn't used as a make-shift movie venue, atrociously loud musical events, etc. The Manager was a Manager, not a failed cruise director desperately trying to whip up the ambience of a Carnival Cruise.

We felt safe and comfortable in our homes and appreciated and loved the grounds. I don't think there is much of those feelings around here now. We live in an overcrowded, unsupervised dorm and have an absolutely atrocious LIAR for a manager who is totally not suited to the job. Maybe he would be good at the job somewhere else (Carnival Cruises), but his style does not work here.

I want to live there! Yes, things were different then, and that's not just nostalgia talking. Thanks for giving "newbies" a look at how things actually were. And not expensive....

Anonymous said...

Yes, I long for those days when this property was a pristine community, not a dirty dorm dump. As for fighting against the above, I do not see it happening here. They are in the driver’s seat. There is no TA and only a small minority to complain. Most tenants are transients and do not care and there is a sizable group that actually likes the hell that this place has become. We have heard the talk before about making Blackstone accountable. Just a losing proposition. Sorry for the pessimism , but photos and posts just don’t cut it. I have heard talk of a new TA and that also has died out. It is great to have a place to vent , but I just see this place getting worse and worse down the line.

Anonymous said...

Blackstone is able to resist any “pressure”. We have seen that. Not optimistic about anything changing here. Just getting worse with time.

Anonymous said...

My spin on this is that Blackstone is laughing all the way to the bank. Of course they love having cheerleaders, ST moms, and some older tenants on board, but they don’t really care. Seems as if this place is irreparably on the decline particularly as relates to renting policies. As the older tenants die out, the student population will explode even more. I think that city subsidies will be commonplace as deals are made with the city for immunity from legal action. I don’t see them as irritated at all.

Anonymous said...

STR, I say we should bug the hell out of the bastards. Be like a swarm of mosquitos on Hayduk's smirking kisser. Let's make sure everyone we come into contact with - and those we don't - knows what a shithole this once-beautiful place is. Also, keep up the calls and online complaints to the City about the lack of heat and the illegal removal of the directories. Just don't grow weary or indifferent because that is what they count on.

Anonymous said...

12.37 PM. Well said. Thanks

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Ah, but "change" is not really my deciding factor. A bee can sting, but not change the bigger picture. Stinging can be good. An irritant. Blackstone would like everyone onboard. The various voices against this and that here are an irritant. Change? I share the pessimism, but once one adopts a completely pessimistic attitude, nothing is done, which Blackstone would love. And who knows about the future?

Anonymous said...

Please. Someone explain.

HOW THE FUCK DIES MANAGEMENT GET AWAY WITH REMOVING TENANT DIRECTORIES IN EVERY BUILDING??????

HOW!!?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>I don’t see them as irritated at all.<<

To me, they are. Even a mosquito bite itches and irritates. Anyway, doesn't matter to me what they think. I will continue on.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>HOW THE FUCK DIES MANAGEMENT GET AWAY WITH REMOVING TENANT DIRECTORIES IN EVERY BUILDING??????<<

Because they rule, according to them. But the issue is not yet closed.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

BTW, the video on the main page has now over 800 views. That means 800 different people have seen this video. Will it make a change? Perhaps yes, perhaps no. But the video continues on.

Anonymous said...

They can get away with a lot of things because we have a TA that is in bed with management and a tenant base that is over half student and transient. Plus our local pols are useless.

Anonymous said...

Sorry to say, we have been doing that for a couple of years and they are getting worse. We can continue to vent which helps but don’t expect any change.

Anonymous said...

I applaud all your optimism but do not share it. After posting photos and criticisms of the TA and management and contacting local pols I have only succeeded in being banned from the TA site, answered politely but not helpfully by local pols, and given a meeting with Hayduk which was fruitless . I do have an overheated apartment now which I love after heat issues. Maybe luck or maybe calls to management. Who knows, but I have seen no improvements in QOL here, only a worsening. We need a TA backed law team which we will never have.

Anonymous said...

Does anybody know the correct City department to complain to about the directories being removed?

Anonymous said...

Where are the Tenant Directories?
I had a medication delivery misdirected.
Where is the Tenants Association?
What am I missing here???

Anonymous said...

Taking away the directories was ILLEGAL. Eventually, they will have to be put back. I trust that things are in motion behind the scenes to force vile Blackstone to do so.

Anonymous said...

That video is very telling, STR. I wonder if Rick ran the hotels, resorts (whatever) as slums? They must have been glad to get rid of him! Maybe he didn't actually run them though; he could have just been the "entertainments director." God help us!

Anonymous said...

There are no rules here anymore. Rick has clearly admitted this when he eliminated names on the directory. As a result of managements incompetence by not knowing who lives here there is now a free for all attitude . If we can get away with our bad behavior than we will continue it, is the new mantra. Playground one in ST has become an all day dog run. Smokers hang out on stoops and benches right outside peoples windows. Loud arties at all hours. It's actually far worse than a dorm, as dorms have monitors, RA's we called them and it was their job to keep the peace and with threats of eviction they did maintain the peace, that buffer doesn't exist here, so technically saying it's dorm like here is an understatement.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

So, yes, near the top "metal" notice in an elevator, there is a metal block, separate, that informs people that the elevator inspection form is available in the Public Safety office. By law (what's that?), it should not be there. Can you imagine walking to the PS office from many of our buildings for a simple inspection notice?

At around 9:40 AM, I went to the PS office. The second door was locked, and I buzzed several times to be let in. There was only ONE officer inside, sitting at the monitors, but not even looking at them, but downward, as if writing something. ONE officer in front of these monitors. The monitors are there for all the buildings and your safety. He did or didn't hear me, but kept on doing what he was doing.

I left. I have not seen any elevator form yet.

Anonymous said...

Are you kidding? The TA has been an arm of management for three years. They do not really exist. Parasitic, despicable group.

Anonymous said...

Don’t trust that. Blackstone gets away with anything.

ONE officer? OMG! It's worse than I thought. Rick and that Frances Martin are such FUCKING LIARS when they say we have a full PS force.

No wonder there is so much crime here. I think we should petition our pols to do something about this. Also, we should all get a rent reduction for diminution of services for both the removal of the directories and the drastic reduction of PS.

Now THAT is very reassuring! We have PS Officer who is either deaf or acts deaf; no monitoring of cameras (not that I ever thought there was because the cameras are only useful for after-the-fact purposes), and our creaky, rattly, bouncy elevators continue as is. At leaset they are not hauling super-heavy loads of crap these days because the renovations have stopped, but the damage has no doubt already been done when they were being used as freight elevators. They are designed to be passenger elevators and can only take so much weight safely.

There is NOBODY out there who can help us? You won't find me voting for ANY of our electeds when they run for office again. I'll vote for whomever runs against them or write my own name in.

I think Rick should be arrested because he has broken the law and put our lives in danger.

Has anybody else not received their paper rent bill this month? I pay online by automatic payment, but I never opted out of receiving a paper bill. If these cheap fucks have arbitrarily decided to stop sending paper bills, then I will cancel my online payment going forward and go back to paying by check.

7:42 PM regarding no paper rent bill . . .

I'm writing on Sunday morning, December 29, 2019.

I receive only paper rent bills and I have received no rent bill for January 2020.

This is, as far I can tell, their usual ineptitude. It's not the first time that they have been very late sending out rent bills.

TO EVERYONE READING THIS: If you have not already paid rent for January 2020, maybe all of us should WITHHOLD JANUARY 2020 RENT.

Blackstone has now deliberately and flagrantly both endangered our lives, safety and welfare; and given the finger to the laws designed to keep us alive and safe.

Please: no arguments about "it won't work," and all of that. We can at least do SOMETHING right now.

Anonymous said...

This guy on the TA site is complaining about too much heat. Fool. If people complain they will cut the heat. Just open a window.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I also would not worry about receiving a rent bill late. The bill could arrive in the mail tomorrow, Monday, so very close to the end of this month. Blackstone will not penalize you for sending you check this week.

ok, no dog here in the fight, as my flat is pretty ok but you cannot tell people to open a fucking window when they hot. They are paying mucho dinero for comfort. you dont know how it feels. they may live street side, 14th street side and have asthma allergies or worse. Just stfu about heated places as they are as bad as being too cold. Neither is healthy for a lot of elders and babies. The fuck.

I think we have ten days grace before we get a penalty for late rent.

The paper bills have been sent out on the 30th of the month before. Not good sense but it has occurred. As for withholding rent, do at your own risk. I do not see this action as something productive in such a large development. Not only nonproductive but risky.

You don’t know what these cold apartments can be like. I am elderly and have asthma. Believe me, 75 degrees is preferable to 65 degrees.(or lower). Too bad you have to curse to make your point.

Anonymous said...

People like you encourage our money grubbing landlords to blame sensors and cut heat. I do know how both feel and in the winter warm is preferable to cold. Hopefully I understood your post correctly as it was disjointed and crude.

Withholding rent is serious business and anyone who does it better have good lawyers. I think that most people would not carry things to that extreme without backing.

Live in one of these apartments for a month with temperatures in the 60’s and lower and you will change your nasty tune.

I can not believe that woman who is bragging about Blackstone doing a great job and then she goes on talk about how great their stock is doing. Of course the stock is doing great, you moron, they do not care about anything but the almighty dollar. Just look at this place. Hell, look at what they did to try Amazon.

Look, I have no problem with the individual stocks people own, but don’t go praising Blackstone like they are saviors of this place just because their stock made you some money. If stock prices were showing true correlations with how this place is being run, we would not be seeing major decreases in services. Enjoy your $56 stock, while it lasts.

Anonymous said...

STR, what is status of efforts to get Tenant Directory back?

That woman who is going on about her Blackstone stock is the same nasty creature who responded to someone who showed a photograph of their thermometer being 57 degrees. She said something to the effect of "why you telling us? what do you think we can do?" A very, very nasty piece of work.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The status is that there is nothing new to report!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Though I'm not advising on this, the "grace period" is longer than that. But, again, that is not my advice to a resident. I have seen residents deposit their rent check at Resident Services longer than that.

Anonymous said...

And they are taking their sweet time in putting in the names of the people that opted in. Disgusting. Probably checking with their law team about what they can get away with.

Do you have proof that they are at 85? I doubt it.

If they are at 85 and above, then they need to call management, not complain on blogs. I doubt they would tolerate 85 or 90. I do not think you know that as a fact

Anonymous said...

Googling what? As for myself I was below 65 and it is horrible. If they are at 90 or 85 which I truly doubt then they need to call management before they broil.

In the “Community Events” brochure, Hayduk blames package delivery people for all the mislaid and abandoned packages. Well Slick Rick, blame your transient in and out renting. Half of the people who were here three months ago no longer live here. Also blame yourself for taking the directories down. Take responsibility and FYI this is not a community. How dare you call this dorm dump a community. PS, since they have removed the directories, there has been an increase in packages around the lobby.

Anonymous said...

Yay, paper bills arrived. Not to worry.

Anonymous said...

Rick is such a slimy bastard. He is the one responsible for most of the problems around here because he doesn't know how to manage a residential property, especially one this size. He enforced none of the QOL rules and arbitrarily removes the directories from the lobbies near the mail boxes and removes tenants' names from the intercom. I wish they would fire him and get a real property manager who knows what he or she is doing. They should fine Beam Living for every day that every building has been without the directories. He has caused havoc this Holiday Season. He is a lazy, lying incompetent. Did he ever apologize for cancelling, without notice, the S'mores and Songs events and the Chips and Salsa events? I wouldn't be caught dead at such events, but some people actually showed up and were disappointed. Not a word of apology from that jerk.

He didn't even warn us that he was going to remove the directories and strip the intercoms. Very professional!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It has been said before, but it doesn't matter that much to Blackstone as long as the profits are good. Rick has his fans, even among residents.

"I dont care if my rent is 'good' i pay less than $2,000 and still its 2,000 a month of misery noise corruption greed dormified smelly dangerous living. keep it peac out im going to see homes for sale"

I'm glad you put "good" in quotes. I pay less than $1600 and feel like I'm getting ripped off. I don't give a damn if one bedrooms on my floor are renting for almost $4000. That means shit to me. I don't give a shit if they rent for $20000. Does it change, in any way, the reality of living in this dump? Not to mention how the city is regressing back to the old days thanks to big bird de blasio. When was the last time anyone took a stroll through the East Village? Were you able to find any businesses that weren't shuttered? Fortunately, for me, retirement is at hand. Anyone interested in a two year sublet of a real R/S apartment in the sty?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I'm going to create some enemies with my opinion, but I don't care. (Where have I heard that before?) Not mentioning names, but a fundraiser was started by a resident who had a 3,000 bicycle stolen at Irving Place. I don't negate the emotional consequences, and I am not saying that the person cannot start a fundraiser, but...a bicycle at $3,000! (I realize that it can carry kids, too.) My immediate response was that some people are wealthy and some people just struggle to reach $1,000. That's our "community" for you. It's just a fact of life that some people have money and can spend $3,000 on a bicycle, and some people don't, including many residents here. Yeah, I also realize that the person is not a millionaire to start a fundraiser for a stolen bicycle. But...$3,000... Maybe we should start a fundraiser to pay our rent?

Anonymous said...

STR, I was startled to see the fundraiser for a bicycle! Boggles the mind. If you can buy such an expensive bike, at least buy insurance at the same time! Some of these fundraisers I see on Facebook are really just a form of begging. And I am sick of people using them to raise money for charity "for my birthday." If I wanted to give you a birthday present, I would. If I wanted to donate to your favorite charity, I would. I see these fundraisers started by Facebook Friends who I probably wouldn't think of sending a card to, let alone buying a gift for. I know they can be ignored, but there is, in my opinion, an element of emotional blackmail and guilt manipulation. I give generously to my favorite charities that are dear to my heart, but I don't ask other people to donate to them or advertise on Facebook that I have donated to any charity.

Maybe I'm a Grinch, but I'm sick of seeing these Facebook Fundraisers.

If I had a $3000 bicycle, that thing would be so secured it would be like I was trying to protect Ft. Knox! You can’t have a bike of that value and expect to lock it with something you buy at Kmart and not expect the thieves of this city to not be able to steal it within seconds.

You are so right! The entire city is getting more and more dangerous (and I don't care what the so-called "statistics" say because they are skewed). There is so much violence being committed against people just walking in the street. It's always the same type of gangsta shit and now they are letting them go without bail. DeBlasio has been a curse on this city. What he would call "progressive" is to most people "regressive." The City is going back to being as it was in the 70s and 80s. Instead of closing Rikers, they should be reinforcing and expanding it. Or transfer it to Park Slope!

BIGMO said...

I've been saying for quite a few years now that this city will revert back to the bad old days especially if these so called 'liberal progressive' policies take hold.

I'm a native New Yorker of 58 years so I've seen a few things in this city over that time. When it comes to crime you need to be proactive in arrests and prosecution. The 'broken windows theory' is valid. If you don't go after QOL issues and crime continues to rise you will see not just 'white flight' but 'Asian flight' out of this city. Businesses will leave and the taxes they pay will vanish. QOL for the remaining residents will continue to decline.

Dumb pols and prosecutors who don't know the history of New York are likely to plunge this city back to it crime-ridden past.

The City likes to tout that total murders continue to decline but what they often don't tell you is other categories of crime have been increasing in the past few years especially in certain police precincts. I have family who used to work in NYPD and I can tell you that many 'police stats' are fudged. Let's not forget how many crimes never get reported either such as petty theft.

I'm not saying current conditions mimic what I remember from the 70's through the 90's but if you think New York can't go back to something similar you're mistaken. Dumb pols and dumb laws can ensure it.

The good thing is I'm retired now and if I have to I can leave New York. I feel sorry for the residents who have no options should the city continue to decline.

You know the saying. "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Finally got my rent bill (though I pay online) and see a blurb from Hayduk about the package delivery problems we have. What he is saying is just an advertisement for Oval Concierge. I think the real reason why he has (illegally) removed the directories is because he wanted to create a problem in order to boost business at Oval Concierge. If I have to have my packages delivered someplace off the project because of this asshole's devious and ILLEGAL actions, it WILL NOT be Oval Concierge that I will be using!

Has Keith Powers, our so-called elected Councilman, responded to anybody about this travesty?

Anonymous said...

Just got a Happy New Year email from Hayduk and Team. I was tempted (but resisted) to respond with a "Put our Directories back up, Idiot!" This guy is either stupid or deliberately trying to goad us. He ruins the Holidays for many of us who lost packages, wishes us Happy New Year and .... oh! I could go on, but I won't!

Reading how great is Stuy Town. From their website:

"Other StuyTown initiatives include compost waste pickup, LED lighting installation, high-efficiency hot water heat exchangers, elevator shaft louvers to minimize heat loss, domestic water flow control valves, and centralized control of steam heating distribution.

"Rick Hayduk, CEO of StuyTown Property Services, said: 'Becoming the first LEED Platinum certified community in New York is a reflection of our commitment to the environment and our desire to simply leave the world a better place after each day.'

"According to a survey released from USGBC, employees who work in LEED-certified green buildings are happier, healthier and more productive than employees in conventional and non-LEED buildings and directly contributes to employees feeling happy and fulfilled at work."

I can't believe some residents here have problems with these buildings. Must be bitchers!

Powers should stay lost in space because he is totally useless. He lives on a property where the landlord blatantly breaks the law, which results in a great deal of inconvenience at best, and endangerment at worst. I can't get over the audacity of Hayduk pushing the Oval Concierge as a solution to the problems he's caused. I wouldn't use that "amenity" if it was being offered for free!

Also, Powers will be endorsed by the Establishment, with all the perks that implies. Once a person is in office, it is more difficult to get rid of him/her.

Had to help 3 separate groups of people last night as they tried to navigate the intercom system because they didn’t have anything more than the last name. The stupid system still gives the option to search by letter, but there are no damned names.

This whole thing has gotten out of control and it should be an OPT-OUT arrangement for those handful of people who don’t want their names listed.

Unfortunately true. Goes for all of them:Epstein, Hoylman, Powers. They all rot.

"Unfortunately true. Goes for all of them:Epstein, Hoylman, Powers. They all rot."

I really don’t understand the vitriol thrown at this blog toward Epstein and Hoylman. Powers, for sure, but we all knew that was coming via his prior career with Vallone associates.

Both Epstein and Hoylman worked very hard for the passage of the HSTPA. So you would vote for the Republican candidates in the NYS legislature in the next election whose party does not believe in ANY residential rent regulations? Voting is binary. Do you know how many NYS legislative Republicans voted for the HSTPA?

Zero.

I totally agree. There are a lot of valid reasons why directories are required by law in apartment buildings. Management had absolutely no right whatsoever to remove the directories. I hope that everyone is calling or going on line to complain to 311 about this violation of the law and of our rights as rent-paying tenants. This is the most stupid and asinine thing that Management has done so far and it boggles the mind to think of what next this rocket scientist, Hayduk, will come up with. It hadn't occurred to me that it could be a stunt to tout Oval Concierge, but I think that could well be the reason. They really are desperate to push their commercial crap onto us. If only Hayduk would focus on running the property as a competently managed residential complex and not a hotel/resort. Maybe he doesn't have the necessary skills for that and really belongs on a cruise ship or at a resort.

I also agree that our local politicians should sit up and take notice and do something about this. They only want our attention when want our money and votes. We will remember. As for the TA - what a joke!

Anonymous said...

Hayduk’s employers do not want him to run this property any other way. He is very competent, just does what he is paid to do.

Anonymous said...

I think Hayduk things he some kind of Emperor!

I wouldn’t use it either or any other ST Dorm Dump “amenity “. Also refuse to attend any of their tacky events. They keep advertising those stupid s’mores roasts. My building is like a revolving door, new people every day. Today the laundry room was filled with students doing tons of laundry. What a disgusting property this is.

Anonymous said...

That post put out by Hayduk advocating the use of Oval Concierge is a disgrace. How dare he blame delivery issues on drivers. How can the delivery people keep up with the crap moving in and out of here every day. It is like a revolving door. And I think that some of the package theft is internal. Probably why they never followed up about my stolen package. This place is not safe and secure because of indiscriminate move ins. I must have seen ten new faces in my goings about the building yesterday. The student population especially along with the tourists or Airbnb is positively exploding. And of course you have cheerleaders on there defending Hayduk and his agenda.

Anonymous said...

There is a cheerleader on the TA site who is so disgustingly pro management. This week he is so happy with security here and refutes the critical letter on security to Hayduk. He is absolutely nauseating.

Anonymous said...

Security in this place continues to go down the toilet, and the cheerleaders are morons if they believe otherwise.

1) They’ve gotten rid of salaried guards with ties to the property and replaced them with minimum wage hourly employees with no ties to the place and no real care regarding the residents here. And I don’t blame them- why should they care? They work for a company who doesn’t give a damn about anything other than money, and they get skimped on their paychecks.

2) They have not increased the number of guards or patrols. Putting vests on the guards to make them more visible does not increase the actual number of guards patrolling this place. Three guards is still three guards, regardless of vest.

That guy is a nasty little twerp who attacks anyone who expresses opinions that don't concur with his own.

I just read a post on the TA fb from a woman whose bathroom was flooded and unusable and she said Management treated her badly because they didn't like what she wrote on Facebook. Also said Powers was not much help.

This Management is like the fucking Stasi. They stalk tenants on Facebook and go after them if they say anything negative. Best thing to do is use a false name to sign up to TA fb. It's doable because I've done it. The place is so full of transients they don't know who lives here.

If they treat you badly because you make a negative comment on Facebook, I think that is illegal (so long as what you said was true). I really think the press should be going after Rick and his slimy, sleazy crew. Tenant intimidation and "punishment" is the stuff that makes a SLUMLORD.

Anonymous said...

One of the cheerleaders, Tweedledumb, mentioned on the TA site about PS officers profiling people they let into the building. Ridiculous. They buzz in regardless, they do not have those skills. Always making excuses for management.

Anonymous said...

I was just reading a thread on the TA Facebook page and am absolutely horrified! One lady (who suffers from asthma and other respiratory problems) said that when her bathroom had a major flood, because Hayduk didn't like what she wrote on Facebook, she was treated very badly. I am beginning to think that Rick Hayduk is a very vindictive and malicious man. I've never though of him that way before (never dealt with him because have had no reason to), but I always thought he was quite a decent person. NOW, I am beginning to wonder!

Remember how Numbnuts Hayduk gave PS carte blanche to buzz in everybody and anybody on Halloween?

There are several posters on the TA Facebook page who i know FOR A FACT do not live here and haven't lived here for a long time. So long as they don't say anything that Management and the TA disapprove of, they can post merrily along as if they still live here. There is also a sock-puppet or two.

Anonymous said...

I'm surprised that Adam Rose (my very, very, very favorite poster) hasn't found a horse's head in his bed at this point! I am assuming he ignores Rick because Rick must have attempted to get at him!

Anonymous said...

I agree. I know a number of posters who moved out years ago and they post on the TA FB page about how great things are, meanwhile they only see this place through the eyes of social media and haven’t stepped foot in this place in over a decade. Of course if someone is Only seeing things through Instagram filters it will give the impression that things here are peachy.

Also, nobody here should trust Rick for any reason whatsoever. He has made it abundantly clear that he only cares about his paycheck and running this place into the dirt for his employer. History will not look kindly upon this “CEO.”

Has anybody field a complaint with the City about the removal of the directories? I'm not sure how to go about it. I fulled up the 311 online page, but couldn't figure out how to use it to file this complaint.

There is a doozy of a cheerleader on the Tenants Fb page (not the TA). OMG! I can't help but wonder if she's on Management's payroll!

Anonymous said...

Just wanted to say that I appreciate that we can post freely on this site. The TA site is the worst, banning people from criticizing them. The other closed site is almost as bad. It was funny. I left their site and was accidentally added again. They immediately pulled my post and now I cannot even view the site. Not that I care, because it is equally as bad as the TA site. I immediately unjoined before they could remove my post. Not sure where these people are coming from. Like they are exclusive societies. Ha. Neither one effects any change and except for Adam, their posts are pointless. They also allow cheerleaders free rein.

Another e-blast from Hayduk concerning all kinds of not-important-shit. When are they going to put the directories back up? I had friends over for New Years and they couldn't find my name in the intercom. They had forgotten my apartment number because they don't write to me and we just meet up on a regular basis outside the property and they don't need to remember my apartment number. This DICKHEAD Hayduk should be fired. He blatantly thumbs his nose at tenants, tenants' concerns and the NYC laws.

Vile man. I guess Blackstone pays him enough to numb his conscience.

Anonymous said...

OMG! Just saw on the TA fb photographs of an apartment with bubbling, crackling totally fucked up flood damage "REPAIRS" LMFAO!!!

Am going to circulate those photos to my friend, many of whom are in RE renting business! As if there were not enough reasons to avoid PCVST like you would avoid an STD or HIV, these photographs absolutely have to the final nail in the coffin!

I am a longtime tenant and have never, ever seen the place so nasty, dangerous, filthy and badly run. Does this Hayduk guy actually have experience, training and credentials to be a Property Manager, especially in a place as large and diverse as PCVST? I find it very, very hard to believe that he is qualified to run this place. He may be a pleasant enough guy to shoot the breeze with, but when it comes to running this piece (significant piece) of Real Estate, I really think that he is out of his depth and should go away before he does more harm and inflicts viable claims on Blackstone. Not that I have any love for Blackstone (I think it is a shit company), but surely they could come up with someone with more savvy and intelligence than this guy.

I personally do not buy stock of companies who do things I find morally reprehensible, and there are plenty of other options out there that had much higher returns for 2019.

Hayduk has chosen to respond to a handful of tenants in order to cement his reputation as a good guy. These tenant then proceed to spread the word on how great he is.

Exactly. This same post is starting to get annoying. Hayduk was brought in to run this place like a resort, not an apartment complex.

I disagree. I think he is trying to put his stamp on everything and his stamp is the Kiss of Death. He is always changing things that don't need changing and totally fucking the place up. I think the removal of the directories was totally his idea. It had his mindlessly moronic stamp on it. We still don't have our names in the intercoms. I am calling 311 every day.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Hayduk had to at least pass the idea to Blackstone of the directory, but I suspect they thought of it. Blackstone is looking at the bigger picture and will change things to "accommodate" current renters and future renters. I doubt that Hayduk is working on his own.

The inspection form should be in the elevator of record. Period.

He is definitely not working on his own. Any other manager they would appoint would be equally bad. The horrendous renting policies which have turned the property into a dorm , hotel, city subsidized dump cone from Blackstone.

The cheerleaders on the TA fb are telling people to ignore the 80% carpet rule and Peter Stuyvesant is not saying a word. I notice that some of them advise using Swiffer Wetjet. I hope they know that the liquid in that thing has some of the components of anti-freeze and is deadly if ingested by babies and animals. Even if a dog or cat is walking on a floor that has been cleaned with the Swiffer Wetjet and then it licks its paws it can become ill and may die. The liquid causes liver failure.

I found it telling that the critical letter to Hayduk posted on both tenants sites received lukewarm comments. Only 20 responses on the TA site. Shows where these cheerleaders are coming from and to. No real dissent. Even those agreeing were lukewarm. Both sites are a waste.

Anonymous said...

@7:32 PM: I didn't see a critical letter to Hayduk on the tenants sites. What day was it posted?

I find Hayduk's manner and attitude totally insulting. We New Yorkers don't need a provincial dope like he to organize our social and entertainment life! We live here because this is where we want to live and we just want to live in peace. The fucking notices in the elevators are like you might find in an hotel. Most of us wouldn't attend those things on a bet! God forbid we should ever be that desperate!

His arbitrary removal of our names from the intercom was the act of a little man trying to be a big man and show us he can do whatever he likes whenever he likes. If it fucks up our lives, so what? He has to prove to us that he can do anything he likes just because he can. I hope everybody is filing complaints with the City about this. This guy doesn't belong running a residential property in New York City. He should be somewhere out in the hinterland trying to impress the locals. Doubt anybody would put up with anywhere though.

The man is drunk on power and he is too stupid to realize that most of us think he is just an idiot.

Anonymous said...

When somebody dies or has a serious mishap as a direct result of Hayduck's stupid and arbitrary method of running this place, then maybe Blackstone will get rid of him. When that incident-waiting-to-happen does occur, it won'l look good to his investors in the hotel venture he is planning in Carolina (or wherever). The man is a moron with an extremely exaggerated sense of his importance. Taking down the directories and reducing Security (which is definitely has done, no matter how much he lies about it) are arrogant, boorish dissservices to us all.

Anonymous said...

I think that some of these bozos must have complained about overheated apartments. Many of us had improved heat in December, sometimes a bit warm. Just opened the window. Last few days not much heat. I am sure these idiots complained and that gives management a good excuse for turning the heat down again. Sure it is not cold today, but we had heat even on days like today.

Anonymous said...

Every day that our names are not in the intercoms and the directories are not posted as per the law, they are in violation. I hope the City is doing its job and fining them. This was Hayduk's crackbrained idea and he should be held responsible. Taking names out of the intercom has caused no end of problems for visitors, especially health aides, etc., and taking them down from the halls has caused problems for the mail people and deliverers.

Hayduk is an irresponsible, overbearing, pigheaded idiot.

what the hell? whenever a stock doubles over night, this is a sure sign of fraud and corruption behind the company. If only there were some media outlet inclined to investigate this crap. I wish we had a free and unbiased press in the damn city.

Regarding LEED Platinum: this is just a fancy designation for fancy new expensive (usually luxury) buildings that adhere to certain standards of using sustainable materials, efficiency in insulation, etc etc. Alot of architects think it's a racket but it sounds good in advertising.
I DO NOT BELIEVE FOR ONE SECOND that this complex is LEED certified. generally new buildings are LEED, not buildings built in '45. Also, the heat loss through these goddamn windows in insane--there is no way they are meeting the standards of heating efficiency.

It IS ridiculous. Hayduk is violating the law and he is so arrogant and stupid that he thinks he can get away with it. I want it to be spread all over NYC that PCVST is knowingly and willfully in violation of the laws pertaining to tenant directories and many other issues. We have to report this violation to the City even if it means doing it over and over again, because we all know that our politicians are in the pockets of landlords such as Blackstone. The way this jackass is blatantly violating the laws and our rights says a lot about who it is who lines our politicians pockets. This is an outrage and I am hoping a friend who is an executive in a TV newsroom will get on this and broadcast it loud and long.

When Hayduk says it is about privacy, he is A LIAR. A BAREFACED, DESPICABLE LIAR. Aren't we lucky to have him as a property manager"

I can understand the postman's frustration, as well as the tenants who are not getting their mail put into their mailboxes. I have seen many pieces of mail left on the shelves because the sender did not include the apartment number. I think the only solution we have is to put our own name labels on our mailboxes. There is no law against that. It may take the postal workers longer to look for the names on the mailboxes than it would if there was the legally-required directory up on the wall, but it would be a help.

If Management is too cheap, lazy, incompetent, unprofessional to do what they are supposed to do, we just have to look out for ourselves and do what we can help facilitate the postal workers get our mail to us.

Hayduk wants us to use Oval Concierge. I see a couple of posts on the TA facebook about how hard it is to deal with and to get your money back from a couple of the other "amenities." I've heard similar complaints in the past. We are not dealing with honest and/or competent service providers here and I think it's better to avoid them like the plague.

Anonymous said...

Actual leaseholders have their names labeled inside the mailboxes, so the daily postman should not have a problem finding where mail that can fit in the box actually goes. It’s the mailman that delivers packages to doors that I’ve seen having problems. It is not time conducive for them to open all the mailboxes to find the persons name they are looking for.

People have been saying it for weeks - this was done because they have no idea who is actually in a very large number of apartments, and this is their way around that. I’m willing to bet there are at least 10k people living here that management has no idea who they are, and that is what should be mortifying to all people who call this place home.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I've tried Target's packaged burger meat and...it sucked. Will not buy this from them again. Same with their "instant" mac and cheese. I threw out the rest of the packet.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Target is good for a few items, but it is NOT a grocery store. Limited as to what one can buy. The next stop is Trader Joe's, opening up tomorrow. If that doesn't work, you're out of luck on the south side of Stuy Town.

Anonymous said...

"Letter carriers or residents can place names on the inside of the mailboxes."

I know the name is on the inside of the mailbox, but that's not much help if the letter carrier doesn't know the apartment number. They can't be expected to open every mailbox to look for the name. In most buildings I've been been in, the names are on the mailboxes and there is a directory either in the lobby or outside by the intercom.

Anonymous said...

I bought some meat from Target and it was fine. I've also bought their cheese and milk and it's fine. Yesterday I bought some Organic Girl salad from there and it is fresh and crisp. Also, it only cost $3.99, as opposed to Associated's $5.95 (except when it was on sale at two for five bucks). I still miss Associated, but Target is ok for bare essentials in a pinch. Their bread is fresh too.

(Also, their beer is cold - very important consideration)

11:33 AM - if there are about 10K people living here that Management has no knowledge about, how do all those people get into the buildings without Management-issued key cards?

Anonymous said...

"Actual leaseholders have their names labeled inside the mailboxes, so the daily postman should not have a problem finding where mail that can fit in the box actually goes"

great, why don't you go down to the lobby when the mail is being delivered and tell the mailman he shouldn't be having a problem delivering the mail. Or do it yourself if you're so confident there's no problem.

there's no name in everyone's mailbox. and even if there were do you seriously think management is gonna replace those names every time someone moves out, if they're not willing to change the digital list of names on the intercom which they can change with the click of a mouse?
Are you that dumb that you think someone is gonna trudge over from resident services everytime someone moves in and out and change that strip in the mailbox--which as I already said is not in everyone's mailbox. I know someone who moved in 3 yrs ago and still doesnt have a name in their mailbox. and this was BEFORE this dumb and illegal policy was announced.

Anonymous said...

you can put a name in your mailbox yourself, but depending on your mail carrier, he or she may remove it-- it is technically illegal for you to put your own identifying tags in your mailbox, for the very reason that this could allow for mail fraud and airbnb/squatters.

The landlord is supposed to provide a list of residents and their apartment #s. As they did until recently. Period. end of story. I don't know why so many people cannot understand this simple concept.

Anonymous said...

--when I put my name in my mailbox, the mail carrier removed it-- this was a couple years ago. Then they changed mail carriers, and this one left it there, probably just to save himself trouble. you are not actually supposed to do this, though. I'm the lease holder in my apartment.

Anonymous said...

Many tenants living here are not on leases. That is the problem. They get mail here but are illegal tenants or students staying with their leaseholder friends.

Anonymous said...

This is exactly right. Too many transients and non lease holders receive mail here. A postal worker nightmare. Also a nightmare for those of us living here. This is certainly not a community. The cheerleaders can tout it all they want. It is a transient dump for students, tourists, and city subsidized.

At least in my building (ST) it seems there is now the DOB elevator inspection log certificate has been placed at the location where the tenant of record directory used to be. I am also so tired of the rube marketing that goes on here, in the elevators, the billboards on the property, etc. And has anyone else noticed that the real tacky/rube/99 cent Christmas decorations that are at the entrances and inside ST are only in ST, not PCV? PCV has some artificial trees which are OK and the classic white lights on the trees at the PS booth at the entrance to PCR. I guess we are considered second class here in "STY". After all, PCV got Poinsettias for their lobbies, we did not.

"They can easily piggy back in after tenants. Or call their lease holder host to get in."

That's been SOP for some time here whereby the NYC law of having a max of 3 unrelated adults living (tenant of record/occupants listed on the tenant(s) of record lease) in an apartment is violated all the time here. They really have no idea how many people actually live here. I say 35,000 minimum right now.

"--when I put my name in my mailbox, the mail carrier removed it-- this was a couple years ago. Then they changed mail carriers, and this one left it there, probably just to save himself trouble. you are not actually supposed to do this, though. I'm the lease holder in my apartment."

Many years ago, our mail carrier himself (now retired for some time) put the names inside the mail box. Many of the long term tenant names are still taped inside the boxes. Our current carrier (10 years now) has left the tags alone.

When my wife asked Hayduk about putting names on or in mailboxes he just airily replied that the postal workers have their own system, nothing to do with what the property does. He doesn't know or care how things work when it comes to us getting our mail or deliveries. He doesn't know much about many things that he should know about. What he did is totally illegal and he should not be allowed to get away with it. Either label the mailboxes externally or put the directory back up. Removing names from the intercom was a mindless and stupid thing go do.
I don't think he's ever managed a property like this before and I don't believe he gets ALL his directions from Head Office. Most of the lame-brained "innovations" are his.

"But sometimes I am in an ornery mood if the person I don't know "expects" I will open the door. I hate these expectations just because the person considers themselves a big shot."

How do you prevent them piggybacking, STR? If they are close behind, it's hard to shut the door in their face!

My code? No male Gen X, Millennials, or Gen Z.

I've been here almost 40 years and I think my name has always been on the inside of my mailbox. I didn't put it there. I thought that was Post Office standard procedure. No?

We still need the bloody directories though. It was a totally cretinous taking them down and why they felt constrained to remove them from the intercom is a total mystery. Aren't they put in the intercom electronically? I thought that was the way it's done these days. They're surely not handwritten cards inside the intercoms!

I make sure I know who is in back of me. If I sense that the person is piggybacking, I don't go in, though I can easily get into a confrontation and even win. I wait outside. I have time. Let the person wait, too. And they do, and piggyback on another person. Yes, it is moving the ball on my part, but I don't want to be the person who let's in someone I'm not sure about. And, yes, one time I got into a verbal altercation with someone waiting for the door to be opened (a snotty "privileged" woman), when I was at the mailbox inside the building. And the other time, I almost got into fight with a drunk male about twenty when he wanted to be let in, but didn't even know what day it was. Generally, I wouldn't advise getting into an altercation. And there are two entrances to any building: M and T, if you have to walk around.

People on this site and their insults are ridiculous. And Yet you have the nerve to complain about people on other sites who insult you. Talk about hypocrites.

I said that the legal leaseholders names should be labeled in each mailbox, which would mean that the mailman should not have a problem delivering mail that goes in the box. Nowhere did I say that is actually happening, and that all the actual leaseholders names are actually there. For 70 years this was never a problem, until they completely lost track of who actually lives here.

Seriously 2:17 you need to tone it down a notch. We are on the same side, and I agree things are screwed up beyond belief, but we get nowhere when you bring insults into the equation.

If I'm getting my mail I ignore anybody who wants me to let them in. Sometimes I've been cursed at, but that's where the middle digit comes in handy (depending on the mood I'm in).

On the M level of my building is a person running a dog boarding that you can see from their kitchen window (multiple crated dogs) and dogs loudly barking 24/7. You can hear them in the laundry room!
I'm assuming if this is allowed, anything goes.

Right on STR!!

Anything does go here. Pot dens, laundry businesses, Airbnbs, and boarding houses. Nothing surprises me anymore. The place is a dump.

You should most definitely notify Management about this. This is totally illegal. If Management doesn't respond (and we all know it is led by the King of The Idiots), call Animal Control or the ASPCA. It can't be good for the dogs to be living in such conditions.

Yep. These days ANYTHING goes.

OMG! Go look at the Tenants (not TA) fb page and see what one family is going through. It is like something out of a horror movie! If that were me, I would have contacted every NYC television channel and radio station and begged them to come out and see what an assault on our lives was being perpetrated by SPS and their lazy, stupid, indolent workers. The videos they took of their kitchen and LR should go viral. People need to see what an absolutely criminally indifferent and abusive outfit runs this place.

I hope those tenants don't pay any rent for this month. I think I'm going to go back to the paper bills and checks, because I've heard it's very hard to keep this vermin our of your bank account and away from your credit card when they have no right to bill you.

I agree. That nasty response was uncalled for. There are some total assholes who post on this site and they ruin it for others who want to express an opinion and not be insulted.

You have to love the way these dopey resident posters on the TA site ask “Peter Stuyvesant “ questions about renting and other matters. Like they are really going to answer or really exist as an organization. So lame.

Finally got to talk to my Postman of 10 years re the removal of the directories and the names from the intercom. Per usual, as has been already posted from others at this blog who talked to theirs, he said it was a bad idea. Also, as has been posted, he maintains the name tags that are inside the mailboxes. As has been posted, he said the main issue was USPD packages without apt numbers. My guess is that the transients don’t use USPD snail mail, just internet based package deliveries. Even a badly dated directory (last one in my building was as of June 2019; there was a least something to go by. And the intercom by name was kept up to date but that’s history now. The privacy rational used to remove the paper posted directories and the intercom names was such a flagrant Blackstone/RH lie.

Is anybody having trouble with their tv signal from Spectrum lately? My tv keeps "freezing" into pixels and my wifi is slow. Just wondering if it is something to do with all the work going on out on 14th Street as they work on the L train stuff.
