Not to Worry, PCVST, Our New Amenities Will Make You Happy

Dear Peter Cooper Village resident,

Have you been down in the last few months because of the lack of a laundry room or a proper garbage disposal facility?  Have you felt a growing sense of despair when you walk outside on a joyous spring day and instead of seeing lovely blooming flowers and ever-expanding greenery, you see mud and huge bins that contain who knows what inside them?

Well, not to worry, because this is the latest update from your landlord:

Hurricane Sandy left extensive damage in its wake throughout the tri-state region, and the impact on our community was particularly severe. Our team continues to work each day to restore the PCVST community to its full capacity. In addition to our restoration work, residents should expect other post-Sandy improvements that will benefit the entire community . We are exploring new possibilities for amenity facilities aligned more closely with resident needs.

We are working to identify ways to expand our ever-popular Oval Kids programming, and are preparing to begin the re-construction of our Fitness Center. Oval CafĂ© re-opened in April in time for the spring season and has a new and improved menu that we hope everyone in the community will enjoy.

We ask for your continued patience as we work to fully rebuild from this historic disaster.

Please don't ask if the expansion of the "Oval Kids programming" will mean free stuff for ST/PCV kids.  (BTW, I smell the intrusion of Stuy Moms here.)

The update also includes info about the forthcoming "Spring Carnival" that "will welcome the spring season...on Sunday, May 19th."  Curious, because spring arrived on March 20th this year, while summer arrives on June 21st.  So, the Stuy Town/PCV "Spring Carnival" is actually much closer to the summer than the spring, which we will have had for two months when the landlord (and Lady Maya) welcomes the spring season!  Now that's just plain screwy!

There is some good news, however:

This summer you may notice a change from last year largely based on feedback from our residents. This year we will have fewer outdoor concerts and will start Movies on the Oval earlier in the evening so they are more accessible for our younger residents and end earlier to limit disruptions. You will also notice expanded kids programming and new Community Center events.

Well, at least the Community Center events have to free. No?

This is the epitome of chutzpah. They have made no effort to repair the laundry room in my building nor will they tell anybody what is going on.Their claim that they are working diligently to fix the Sandy issues is belied by the evidence in Peter Cooper Village. Unfortunately, virtually most people here have resigned themselves to the status quo here and just accept the continuing lousy conditions at this point. CW has actually exceeded Tishman Speyer in their arrogance and lack of responsiveness to tenants

If CW really wanted to provide what residents want, they would leave. Sell. Get out. No one wants them here. Their complete failure at managing became tiresome long ago.

Zero mention, I repeat, zero mention of the 3 (?) massive blue dumpsters that deface PCV. Meanwhile major resources are being allocated to that 5/18 carnival at the Oval. Notice, CWC doesn’t even bother anymore to mention that the carnival event is for ”residents and their guests only”. And why not, they won. The interior of PCVST is now a commercial zone subject to no restrictions. I hope the PCVST moms, who love these bread and circus events, that they will surely be pleased when they will be shut out again from this type of event dues to large crowds of non-residents. They actually had the nerve to complain about this (the Easter event) at the TA FB page.

Such BS. It's bad copy writing that provides the residents with no information but, once again, promotes the fake amenities like Stepford Cafe. At least they are admitting what a nuisance their lame rock concerts are! Suck it Lady Maya!

Who needs laundry rooms when you've got Oval Kids and concerts? Get a grip STR!!!!! Where are your priorities? As for the garbage, just throw it on the mud patches that used to be lawns along with all the rest of dreck that comes to rest there.

;-)

As far as I'm concerned, I've been patient enough. Yes, some work has been going on, but PCV looks like a mud pit. There's still no word on what's in the shipping containers that line Peter Cooper Road (moldy old suitcases?) or when they're going to be removed. You can't even call some of the areas lawns anymore. This latest "update" is just Management stroking itself as usual. They make themselves feel good, but that's about it.

PCV is a total dump and NOTHING is being done about it. Mgt does not respond and Dan G is either impotent to affect change or he does not care to do so. Tenants association if worried about a post office. How about tenants living conditions?

I'm ashamed to live here and will not have friends or family to visit as I'm totally embarrassed. When I see potential renters I tell them, point blank, in front of the PCV rental agents, to RUN as this place is a horrible place to live.

Dog urine in the lobby everyday I get home from work. More than four apts in my building have owners with at least three dogs. I see German Shepherds living on the property now too.

College girls on lobby floor smoke pot all day long and have drug dealers visiting regularly if they are not dealing drugs out of the apt themselves. This has been going on for over a year.

Outside lights have been broken for months. Broken elevator for days on end. Wall paper in lobby torn off walls for over a week now. Gardens and lawns are totally destroyed by storm and selfish dog owners. It's a free for all and nothing is done about it. Until someone gets hurt and CW Capital gets sued I don't see anything changing anytime soon.

But feels better to vent...and perhaps someone with responsibility is reading this and will FINALLY do something.

Totally agree except that there are at least 6 or 7 storage containers in PCV , not just the 3 blue ones that serve as CW's concept of spring landscaping upon entering PCV , which they have managed to turn into an urban slum from a beautiful place to life, particularly in the Spring in just a few years. The disaster which Tishman Speyer began is being accelerated by CW

Is that 3 bedrooms crafted from a 1 bedroom apartment? With an "office"?

Everything that is good about this property is what remains of how it was before it was destroyed by TS and the subsequent bunch of incompetents who called themselves "management." There is nothing that has been added that is of any intrinsic or esthetic value. The grounds and landscaping have just some semblance of how lush and beautiful they used to be and all that is rapidly disappearing; the buildings have been neglected and are filthy and the quality of life has been destroyed by the influx of immature and uncaring young adults occupying overcrowded apartments. I doubt that very much is up to the FDNY codes, but there is probably some payoff to them and the NYPD because that is the New York way of doing business. When did Fire Inspectors last pay us a visit? When did the 13th Pct last give a ff about the drug dealing and other crap that goes on here?

"Is that 3 bedrooms crafted from a 1 bedroom apartment? With an 'office'?"

Yes it is. Hard to believe. I compared the layout with the layout on the Management site. The bedroom has been split in two, and the original dining area and living room have been divided into a living room, home office, and flex second bedroom.

But why is this obvious ST apartment listed as being on 3rd Ave and 22nd St.?

One should add to the "Property Update" the latest complimentary activity: "residents and their guests" now go from building to building rummaging through the recycling bins placed outdoors hunting for deposit cans and bottles.

That's the real "Spring Carnival!"

The leasing agent may want to hide the Stuy Town locale from CWCapital or else he really doesn't have the apartment for rent, but is just using it as a come-on.

I'd be interested to know if this 3 bedroom split is actually an approved change by CWCapital or our previous landlord.

This so-called "management" company is a total disaster. Is there any way we can get rid of them? They are totally inept, treat tenants like dirt and are withholding services that we are paying for (laundry rooms, elevators, intercoms, etc.) while they are putting on stupid non-essential commercial gigs. We don't pay rent for "Oval Shit," but we do pay for laundry rooms, intercoms, elevators, etc. Surely, what they are doing is a blatant withholding of services. They don't have the basic decency to respond to emails or calls from tenants. We need to get rid of these exploiters and opportunists and have some real management around here. Public Safety are a joke. A bad joke. They are as useless as possible and we are paying for them. Something has to be done and done soon. TA, Garodnick, do you hear? Get your act together and get rid of these leeches or forget about ever having any credibility ever again.

so we r now all in the clear -legally-now that the roberts case is finished. why is there nothing from TA or CW re; conversion. oh, they'll come up with another excuse to delay-as per yesterday's WSJ article. how come CW speaks to the WSJ but not the TA?????this entire conversion is a sham!!! they r just holding us hostage with this entire process. i give up.

What is the difference between a New York City Landlord and a Terrorist?

You can negotiate with a terrorist (and they usually have a higher motive than pure greed and avarice).

Anonymous said...

I hear that the new and improved intercom system is a disaster! Doesn't management test things before they're thrust onto the tenants???

Anonymous said...

I saw some terrorists today! They told me to stop feeding the squirrels! Wow. Just wow.

Anonymous said...

I have a new intercom and the sound is so loud and piercing my family has to cover their ears when it goes off. I now keep my daughter in the bedroom with the door closed because it frightens her that much.

Anonymous said...

I have never fed the squirrels before but I am going to start now!

"I have never fed the squirrels before but I am going to start now!"

Me too!

If anyone says anything to me about feeding the squirrels, I have just two words to say to them and it's not "Happy Birthday!"

I am raising a squirrel army. They will be trained as night fighters to attack and decimate the Woo/Bro packs that roam and scream Wednesday through Saturday night, especially at the Oval area. Who's on broad, we need some officers and NCO’s as well. Remember, an army marches on its stomach. "Ready to Lead, Ready to Follow, Never Quit"

Just got back from Sam's club with 2 of the largest bags of peanuts I have ever seen. These squirrels are going to put on some pounds thanks to the Stuy Town Moms who suggested we feed them. Right on ladies!!

""Ready to Lead, Ready to Follow, Never Quit"

That could never be said for our lazy, lard-butted "Public Safety" officers who are busy chatting up female students, watching Spongebob and checking their Facebooks.
