Don't Let the Door Hit Your Ass on the Way Out


He could have done much to sustain affordable middle class housing in Manhattan and, particularly, in Stuy Town/Peter Cooper Village, but was, in reality, an advocate for big real estate concerns and his fellow wealthy buddies who want more and more pieces of the dwindling New York City pie. And, yes, he was supported in most things by a subservient City Council, which should share the blame. True, he did some good things, but he was devastating for the middle class and did considerable damage to the soul of city.

Bloomturd...truly a vile, pretentious, petulant potentate.
He did NOTHING for the poor and middle class of New York...the most tenant-unfriendly mayor in the city's history. He repeatedly refused to get involved in the efforts to preserve ST-PC as affordable housing. His excuse, "It's a private matter". Guess drinking a 16 1/2 ounce soda isn't a private matter. What a phony. Good riddance!

Hey, that door is probably included in the $650M he spent on being the mayor (according to estimates in the NYT). Definitely good riddance, but we've now seen what Bill de Blasio will do to ensure a subservient City Council speaker.

You said it, Hippo. Maybe the only good thing he did was be supportive of Marriage Equality. Though I sometimes wonder if that was part of his quid pro quo deal with Quinn.

Though I agree with you about Bloomberg (he did do a number of great things on the green front, but re income inequality, he was devastating), De Blasio hasn't even been sworn in and you're already writing him off and whining. Please, let's try to start 2014 on a more positive note. This negativity is really defeating and infectious and not very inspiring to other residents who want to try to make a better place to live.

Administrator of the blog. You are living in a dump. You, yourself called it nothing more than a high end housing project. It's past it's prime, the renovated apartments are so inferior to what's out there for the same price in doormen buildings with amenities. It is a dump and you are probably paying a very low rent while the rest of us "newbies" can hardly keep up. You should be happy with your low rent. Stop worrying about the dog crap and, instead, encourage people to call, call, call and complain when something in their building isn't working. Nobody calls when a door isnt locking, when an elevator button is out, when there's a spill on the elevator floor, when a neighbor is being inconsiderate. Nobody cares and they depend on someone else to call it in. Most importantly, the whole development is in a flood zone, especially Peter Cooper. They haven't reopened the basements yet. Wait for the next hurricane. Can't wait to move out of here (anonymous)

I agree with you in part, but 1) I'm having a hard time keeping up even with my "very low rent" (which I'm sure is lower than yours, but still not too low for me to be carefree) and 2) it seems that when people do call, not much is done. Note the continual problems some residents are having with accounting and false late rent payment notices, even after numerous calls.

Total BS. We've been looking for 7 months. Don't make statements you can't back up. reason most people rent here is that it is per sf - cheaper. and available.

I guess the problem here is that they can do whatever they want, with no penalties,,,,,, Raise rents in the middle of a lease, not fix broken and closed laundry rooms, not tend to noise complaints, add Mci's at their whim.

why wouldn't they? business as usual. Honestly, no reason not to.

I work in RE and can tell you I rent apartments out in the mid 2k range in BPC. You get a doorman and concierge to boot. During Sandy power never went out!
