Stuy Town's Official Company Facebook Tells the Truth...in Photos!

I find this very amusing.  A post on the official Stuy Town Facebook, from May 29th:

"We walked around this past weekend and saw quite the lovely array of activities going on in our community spaces. One thing we learned is that StuyTown adults love our playgrounds as much as our StuyKids do."

Three photos are shown (click on photos to enlarge):

What do these photos show? We'll excepting the little kid in the foreground in the first photo, the photos show students!  (No older people past the age of 25, it seems.) A few may be real Stuy Town residents with families here, but my impression, from living here for about thirty years, is that the vast majority of the young people in these photos are members of the transient student population that Stuy Town is blessed with.

Well done, Official Stuy Town Facebook Photographer!!! Exposing the truth for the world to see!

Even Town & Village seems to have accidentally told the truth in their story about Petite Abeille restaurant that used to be family-style in orientation and is now putting in pool tables and standard college student bar furnishings since all the families are gone and the major population is students.

Guess STR commentators were right last summer, there are close to if not over 5000 dormified apartments and the majority of population is students, creating the cornerstone between the NYU Langone health corridor and 14th street East Village/Washington Square NYU core campus. Thanks Dan, Marsh et al. Way to kill off a community of generations of 11,000 working middle class families for luxury dorms for 1%'ers. What is your special take in the Brookfield-led deal?

This has to be a historic record of corruption worthy of national attention.

If you look at the official stock photos they use to market this dump (in your rent invoice, etc.), there is no one over 25 in those shots as well. In addition to NYU, there are now “official” New School/Parsons dorm apartments (the lease holder is the school) here as well, beside the many other dorm apartments where their parents guarantee the lease. All one has to do is go to the new First Avenue Management office, take a look-see at the Concierge office and see the wave of college and just post college transient crowd that is here now. Like the EV, like the LES, like Gramercy, like Murray Hill, we are a fucking dorm dump. This is the engine that drives the QOL here down the toilet. The problem is that the current NYS RS laws, written by the lobbyists of the RE industry, permit this atrocity of the law to go on. Unless those laws are changed post June 15 (fat chance), the percentage of dorm apartments here will increase semester after semester. There is a big wave of America’s Greatest Generation, many in PCV, mostly widows, who are going to die soon. Two of my best friend’s parents died this year. TS and now CR/CWC’s actuaries have built this die off into their marketing/business strategy. Again, this is not just a PCVST issue but it impacts Manhattan and most of the rapidly gentrifying outer boroughs of NYC as well. Even Staten Island and the Bronx are not safe. I am going to ride on one of the Real Rent Reform buses to Albany because I’d like to go down fighting. There is certain honor in that. Like the Battling Bastards of Bataan. But they were expendable. And so are we. I wanted to retire here, that’s not going to happen. Escape plans are needed. Movies and concerts, anyone?

6/4/2015 Yelp Review

"Ok. I'm only giving this place two stars instead of one because for two years I had the most amazing roommates in the world and stuy town gave us a convenient place to live while we were all still at NYU. But honestly, all the stress they gave us just makes you want to bang your head against the wall countless times...."

The review goes on:

"They lost our money. No, one of their managers STOLE our money. We even had police come over to our apartment (and I'm sure other apartments as well), because that unknown manager took all the rent checks that month from everyone. EXCUSE ME?! AND they never deducted the amount from our rent bill until we moved out. They even refused to give our deposit back because they thought we owed them money. Like no. Just no. "

Etc.

That's right, you prized demo. Once you are in, CR/CWC will fuck you over just like any other tenant here. Didn't you read ANYTHING on line or in SM about this shit hole before you came here? Duh? A generation so connected. Yet so clueless.

The liars should come clean already on the dorms, the student population and how they negotiated for working middle class people here to pay for DASNY approved campus security on top of Robbie's investor's debt.

Maybe they should run some photos of CW employees and their kids riding their new-to-me bicycles around this weekend.

Saw dozens of bikes being tossed onto the white box trucks outside of 431/441 E 20th early this morning.

They did the same when they "renovated" our bike and storage rooms, and when tenants showed up at the the holding pen to reclaim them, their bikes had somehow disappeared!

14th Street Loop, after 10 pm and the assholes are hurling bags of recycling into their white vans. Nothing like the sound of glass being shattered when you are trying to relax or have children who are sleeping.

How can turning rent stabilized apartments into dorms be legal? When DeBlasio and Garodnicksay they are on middle class tenants' side, they are nothing more than FUCKING LIARS.

Not a word of disapproval from the Marsh/Steinberg group on the thousands of dorms signals their approval all along all these years. They could have at least had the decency to own their actions and say from the beginning it is happening with the TA approval or with their disapproval, instead of pretending it was not happening, covering it up in cowardice. They should have owned their actions. They approved the dorms and they know a lot more than they are admitting. It is the deceitfulness that makes it impossible to listen to a word they say.

Thank you, Management, for ruining the place where I call home. Students galore have ruined the quality of life here. Ruined it! What a shame. Ever wonder why there is no more waiting list anymore? Because nobody desires to wait and live here anymore. That's why. I hope all of you sleep well at night, because you know what? What goes around comes around.

What is all this nonsense about thousands of dorms?

To the best of my knowledge, NYU rents less than 100 apartments to house grad students. That alone is an offense, as PCVST apartments should be for long term, permanent tenants, not rented out to a rotating roster of students by the semester.

But the rest of the college, and post college, people are coming in through the Leasing Office, often with Mom and Dad picking up the check. That QOL effect may be the same, but they're not dorms, per se, and NYU is not renting thousands, or even hundreds, of apartments here.

Loony, sky-is-falling comments about NYU taking over PCVST don't help those of us fighting in "the resistance" hoping to save the community.

During the first 12-13 years we resided in PCV just 1-2 apartments located on our floor changed hands.

Soon after Speyer implemented a business plan to boot the middle class out of ST-PCV, ongoing harassment drove out a pleasant senior couple residing in an adjacent 2 BR unit. Our long term neighbors were the first residents on the floor forced to vacate in disgust. (BTW - a landlord booting out tenants via unwarranted harassment is "constructive eviction" difficult to prove in court.) They were original "greatest generation" residents ST-PCV was constructed for to provide them with decent housing to live and raise families after surviving through a Great Depression (caused by Wall Street greed) lasting 10 years and WWII lasting 5 years.

Speyer replaced the senior couple with a pack of nonstop partying post grads that very quickly ruined QOL for everyone else residing on the floor. More long term residents vacated in disgust. Apartments were churned and crammed with successive packs of partying transients with no single pack remaining in occupancy for more than 1 or 2 years. During the past 7-8 years since Speyer, we conservatively estimate at least 35-40 unrelated adults have moved in and out of the adjacent apartment.

A benevolent corporate-government partnership conceived and built ST-PCV for a middle class community that became historic and world renowned, lasting more than 60 years. It will take less than 10 years for a malevolent corporate-government partnership to destroy it.

Destroyed already if we are talking about affordable housing for the middle/working class.

Depressing photos. The sea of red brick that obliterates everything makes me want to kill myself.

These photos look like an advertisement to college students for their new open space quads as they take over all the playgrounds from the toddlers in CompassRock Langone higher education plan to evict families because Langone is on record saying global investments in higher education campuses will yield big profits for the Kochs, Finks and Langones.

We are probably 50/50 dorm to family-home ratio at this point.
