How's the milling, grinding and repaving working out for you?

It's been a while since the milling and grinding awoke residents, or kept them up, who live on the borders of Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village, with an appropriate smiling at the camera councilman Dan Garodnick and his two "assistants" for the photo, our own TA president Susan and Dan's helper, Howie. Remarkably for some, the work is not finished, with repaving "expected" to begin this month, the 22nd of September. That's about a month since the first phase was done, and a month for everyone to skip and hop to avoid the damaged roadways done by the milling and grinding. Of course, near the end of September we are promised smooth roads that will delight all our residents. Until then, just suck it up.

We were told that 200,000 dollars came from our councilman for this complex, one of his final gifts as councilman as he is headed for better (?) things in the future (having sold his soul to the REBNY, but that's another issue). Our intention is to take photos so that residents will be aware of what happened and the result.

I have seen numerous elderly tenants with walkers afraid to cross the torn up roads, and I have even offered them help across! They all say the same thing, which is that they feel trapped by all of this.

That smiling pic of those 3 makes me sick when I encounter the people who are afraid to cross.

As a very mobile senior, it is even a bit difficult for me to cross streets especially when I have my shopping cart. I can imagine that it is very difficult for seniors with mobility issues.

I took a tour of the outer Stuy Town complex this morning. I have photos. They are dispiriting, but we have to wait until the last week of September before the other photos are taken.

And, again, I should not be doing this. The TA should be doing it.

Anonymous said...

Why would the TA do anything that helps out struggling senior citizen tenants? Especially when it's their main man Dan's pet project!

Anonymous said...

how utterly convenient to constantly disrupt and possibly hurt the elderly here. Dear Rick : don't worry we'll be dead soon and you can have more churn churn churn.

The TA should be doing most, if not all, of what the Stuy Town Reporter is doing and a few others. Taking photos, reporting the things that do or don't work, etc. The TA should be friendly to all but not buddies to the people in power. They should be prepared to be adversarial, not beholden to whomever for this favor or that. One of the worst things the TA could have done was to buddy up with our councilman, who has his own agenda, different than what the TA should strive for. The TA is potentially a powerful organization. Or use to be. Should I remind people that over half of the apartments are now "market-rate." This percentage is going to increase. If the TA can't stop this, and their options are limited, at least they can fight and maintain the fight. They should also be transparent, which they are not.

Great post STR!

The TA is fucking useless at all levels except self-promotion and Garodnick is a nightmare and has been since Day One of his three terms as REBNY pet boy. I hate them all!

This repaving is a horribly cocked up job and it is dangerous for anybody, old or young, to cross the street. Old folks who are unsteady on their feet or use walkers, younger ones with strollers, etc. - God help them.

The noise is incessant and grating and intrusive. Does Garodnick even live in this shit hole any more? I rather doubt it. I don't know what office he thinks he's running for in the future, but I will support any candidate who opposes him - even Donald Trump!

Anonymous said...

I wonder how much Garodnick will take from local mechanics for sending them all the business this three week long debacle has given them to fix people's cars?

Why are they calling this a "repaving" beautification project for Stuyvesant Town gift from the DOT or Councilman when ALL the permits for all the streets around Stuyvesant Town say it is work by Con Edison for Con Edison that the DOT and City Council are paying for?

DOT tells Con Edison they are to coordinate the effort with Stuyvesant Town to assure residents can access garages and property entrances and the Community Board 6 knows all the details and it seems to be for either future excavation markings and / or the interim current overpopulation stress on system until REBNY ConEd sell, demolish, build glass and steel towers:

Why still lying to the community and why don't the Community Board 6 members living in StuyTown tell residents all the facts and truths?

The former head of ConEd is the current head of REBNY with StuyTown former (current?) landlord. This "repaving" is more then meets the eye with all the same players in play.

It is well established now that those in the photo are not doing anything to keep the community stable. Everything they do is for development interests. This repaving is not for "elderly" and their misuse of that is despicable.

Anonymous said...

Are they lying to the Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village community or lie on the DOT permits? Is Con Edison "Investigating a Steam Leak" or "repaving for the sake of the elderly"?

Lying to the DOT may have serious consequences while lying to this community gets a free pass so safe bet we are the ones being lied to. The DOT permits contradict the PR firms repaving spin delivered by the PR firm's clients in the photo.

Where are the minutes from all the TA meetings, we want to read them.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Wait, wait. The end result (repaving) may be awesome!

Anonymous said...

September 16, 2016 at 3:46 PM Yes, and the PR Firm for the Tenant Association and Mr Garodnick may be on the up and up. Why would there be any reason to doubt the honesty and sincerity of one of the Mayor's secret "agent of the city"?

Anonymous said...

The TA'S website stinks! It has no updated info on it. Useless!! Just like everything else they (attempt) they do.

"Where are the minutes from all the TA meetings, we want to read them."

It's a secret society, like the Free Masons.

Do none of you remember the elevated FDR reconstruction ???

The Councilman gave $200,000 to Con Ed. That says it all.

"We were told that 200,000 dollars came from our councilman for this complex"
I love when politicians give out taxpayer dollars and say it is from themselves. Or did it really come from his pocket? More likely a politician just gave a billion dollar financial company landlord $200,000 of taxpayer money.

I think that is the most likely scenario!

We moved into the complex a few months ago. AC: Seems new but is terribly uncontrollably loud. Has anyone other tenants had such? Thank you.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I don't know about loud, but there are a bunch of water drips from certain AC units. Undoubtedly, these also cause mosquito infestations, but who cares and what's it to you?

Anonymous said...

All air conditioners are loud. I can even here my upstairs and downstairs neighbors' air conditioners when mine is turned off, which it is most of the time. Remember to put padding on the tops of them so you don't have to hear the drips from your upstairs neighbors' machines boinging on your machine.

I only stepped out last night to go to Associated, which is right next door to me. Just walking there and back I got my legs chewed up by mosquitos! The only water I encountered is a big puddle near the front door from dripping air conditioners!

Anonymous said...

all ac are not loud. you have no idea what you're talking about. are you the manager posting?

Anonymous said...

I care since I can't hear the ball game with it on, or talk to my wife. That ok with you?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Hmm, I think, though I am not sure, that the joke (this one, not the other one) may be lost.

Anonymous said...

Not the manager posting. Just someone with a noisy air conditioner. I've never come across a quiet air conditioner. If there is such a machine in existence, I'd appreciate hearing what the brand and model is. Thank you.

But keep calm because you won't be needing it for long. Soon you'll be treated to the clanging pipes when the heat comes on. I hope you realize that the heat only comes on in short spurts early in the morning and late in the afternoon. You freeze your ass off at all other times.

Anonymous said...

Not poster but you are so wrong. Our ac is quiet as can be.

Anonymous said...

6:16 PM: what brand is it? When my old units die, I want to replace them with quieter types. The ones I have are Friedrich. Thanks.

If pet er cooper stuy Rick really cared about tenants comfort, they'd install the above. Yet they don't. You want to know why?

Anonymous said...

What TA?

Anonymous said...

http://www.foambymail.com/acoustical-foam-products.html

I just googled that and it looks like it would make good sound barriers for air conditioners and even floor covering.

Seems that management has okayed the drone flight as being needed for its promotion of the property! Unbelievable but true.

I shake my head again and realize that management is clueless in a lot of ways. I will post on this and other management fiascos in the future.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

A lot of potholes that are now mini-pools created by the milling and grinding. Even more difficult for seniors and people with any disability. Add the average person. Job well done!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Aside from the potholes, I'm so excited that management will be putting in colored lighting at the Oval Fountain. Just what we need! The only thing that will be better is drones hovering overhead. A magical show that will have residents cry, "More! more!"

Anonymous said...

it's WONDERFUL ADVERTISING DON'T YA THINK?

ALL NEW AND LIT AND FLOWERED OUTSIDE FOR ANYONE COMEING TO MAYBE RENT HERE, AND INSIDE A FUCKING SHIT SHOW, plumbing , noise, dirty construction 24-7, fucked up elevators, tissue thin walls + floors.

Anonymous said...

Yeah. This place blows!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Resurfacing will start tonight at 8pm. Right now it is scheduled to start at 18th St. and Ave C but it's best to read the signs on the roads, which should state time and place.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Oh, and good luck to residents who may live around the area being worked on. It appears a "nightly" thing.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The interior roadway from 18th St and around the corner to Ave B appears to be done, though check to make sure. So far, so good. I saw only one minor "pothole."

Anonymous said...

Guaranteed the Ave C road outside parking garage #4 still floods after every rainfall. Yes, I am a pessimist.
