"Packed"

A reader, Edmund, sent in the following photos and a video that shows how packed with residents was the music at the Oval yesterday. And the photos were not taken at the beginning or at the end of the event.

I want truth. Residents that BS other residents into thinking that the events are well-attended have been proven, so far, as liars. They have an agenda. Mine is just telling and showing the truth.

The photos. The proof.

Look what I found:

But these events are great community builders! Just ask one of these paid cheerleaders.

Listen, I like this place. I’ve lived here my whole life. I’ve seen this place as an oasis, and I still consider it to be an oasis of sorts. But the oasis is nowhere near the oval and most areas near 14th street. Those areas are a disgrace to anyone who’s lived here since pre-Tishman days.

Bringing Bryant Park to our doorsteps is not what I want in the place I live. I will go to Bryant Park for movies and concerts when I want to attend them. I don’t want them in my living room after working 12 hour days.

Thanks but no thanks Rick.

How on earth did people manage to grow up here without these events? Didn't they feel culturally isolated and entertainment deprived? What, with just playgrounds, ball teams and the Chess Club as their only outlet, it must have been very hard living in this little hokey town called New York. It's not like there is anything going on outside of the perimeters of PCVST. I just don't know how anybody survived without becoming brain dead when there was only peace and quiet and trees and the playgrounds and recreation department. Where did they go for entertainment and stimulation? New Jersey? Alabama? How did their parents manage to keep the kids active with just playgrounds and ball games and not afraid to venture out to that arid suburban wilderness that surrounded them? I bet that not a single person who grew up here had a friend or playmate and had probably never heard of a movie or concert. We have to thank Blackstone for bringing the concerts, music and movies into our lived. Otherwise, we would never have known that such things existed outside of Carnival Cruises and Boca Retirement Communities. Hurrah for Rick and Blackstone for showing us what life can be like if we have piped-in entertainment from the real big world.

"Thanks but no thanks Rick."

If Rick would just focus on keeping the place safe and clean we could say he's doing an excellent job as a Property Manager. Sadly, he fails bigly because the place is not safe or clean. Maybe that's above his pay grade.

I can only assume, given all the evidence (and I have many photos) that Management and Blackstone have a priority that is different. I've said this repeatedly: If I were managing this place, I would hire several very good people to just go around and look and make sure the property is what is claimed. Hell, I myself would go around daily to make sure this place is working well and that the rules are enforced, etc. It would be up to me not just to be a "nice guy," but also a hard ass when the rules are broken. I see these rules broken ever day. And from my experience, and I've been here 30 years or so, what I am met with (when I "complain" of course) is a nice smile and an excuse...and nothing much is done in the end. So what am I, or any tenant, supposed to do. Complain again and again. By now, I think what is wanted is that the "complainers" will get tired and just give up. The property is perfect, chief, case closed!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Another thing regarding eyes and positive actions that are from the Management. Several times, I have noted dog crap or smears around the Oval that are not picked up or cleaned. Now, ST workers and PS head around that Oval many times during the day. Do you think that dog crap or smear was cleaned? One would think with all these paychecks from Blackstone that something would be done. But it has been my experience that you can't bet that something will done, unless a resident "bitches."

Lucky residents of 5 Stuyvesant Oval and surrounding buildings!
Last evening, Friday night, from 5:30 to 8:30PM we had the pleasure of being bombarded by the melodic tones of a third-rate...wait...make that fourth rate "singer/musician" in the courtyard of the 5 Turd Stuy Town Café.
What an outrage! Being bombarded by this horrible "noise".
Utterly disrespectful to the tenants who want a little peace and quiet in their homes.
A royal FU*K YOU to Rick, Susan Steinberg and all the weasels of the TA who do NOTHING except destroy the quality of life here!

Anonymous said...

This place is getting nastier And dirtier by the day. On the weekends when the truck doesn’t come around as much, the loops are filled with move out refuse which is really nasty. Would it be so difficult for them to create a storage shelter that people would have to in order to dump their crap. Plus that dirty elevator liner in the elevator for a month at a time. Hayduk should concentrate more on sanitation and less on his entertainment crap. This is becoming a true sty. You have to be crazy to pay over 4 grand a month for an apartment here. Hear that cheerleaders but maybe they do not care about filth. Seems not.

Let me second that royal FU*k YOU to Rick, Steinberg and the rest of the weasels, include the weasel politicians who are paid to represent us. Boy! The cheerleaders are out in force on the TA facebook page! I wonder if they get paid or if they just have nothing much to do in their lives? They really grate on the nerves because they have zero empathy for the people who live on the Oval. I'd like to hire a brass band and have them play under their windows and see how they like it. Does that Hayduk character ever go to these events? Does he take his wife and daughters? As he is the one who arranges for these "entertainment events" it would behoove him to show up (with his family) at each and every one of them and stay from start to finish. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't go near one of these things except to maybe make a cameo appearance once. What an asshole.

Get off the events rant. They're not going away. Yes, it sucks for us at the oval but most of us on the oval have an issue with the exorbitant rent and the shit living vs the concert events.

Anonymous said...

A rent strike is not a good idea. First of all the five or so tenants who would participate would not make any difference. Blackstone would immediately evict them being glad to take over their apartments. Sad to say, there are not that many tenants here who even care about the state of the property. There is very little support here for anything.

Did not vote for Hoylman and Kavagnah last time they ran for that reason and if there is no positive change , will not vote for Powers or Epstein when they run again.

There are some really nasty bastards (male and female) on the TA fb. They are the same people who cheerlead loudly for management and trash-talk the longtime tenants who have the temerity to complain about the Oval Noise, etc. One such slimeball just commented that someone had posted blaming management because he/or she got bitten buy a mosquito. I read the posts every day (though I don't comment because I am not part of that group) and there has NEVER been a post blaming management for a mosquito bite! There was a discussion about mosquitos in general and how there were a lot of them this year (every year, as far as I'm concerned!), but NOBODY blamed management for getting bitten.

That poster is a fucking liar, but that's ok by Peter Stuyvesant.

I am not in favor of a rent strike, unless it is done person by person with a lot of documentation. Sorry, but just saying that one's peace and quiet is ignored is not enough. You will need a bunch of evidence, and time spent on your cause has to have a lot of evidence. Yes, it has been done before (Ms. Chow), but she needed evidence. The building and noise of that Management office was right below her, and, working from home, she gathered proof and proof. And, no surprise, the TA and our politicians did not lift a finger. I believe she only won because a neighbor came in at the last moment.

That's what you, as a tenant, are up against. A group endeavor can have more success, but you still need that evidence and documentation. And how many people in this group are we talking about? Five, ten? Now if it was hundreds, yes, I believe they would be listened to more, but that's hundreds. That's what our current TA is for. But you know their inaction and you have read the cheerleaders who love these "concerts" and movies. That's what Management's lawyers will bring to the table: Documentation that residents like these concerts and movies, even it the residents that prefer them are few in number.

To add: I don't think it is legally possible for a landlord like Blackstone to get rid of a tenant because of a rent strike. They will wait for a legal judgement and then, if the judgement is against the tenant, they will ask for back pay and maybe "expenses." At which point, you have to pay up.

I can't believe I demonstrated outside the Leasing Office when CWC suddenly upped the rent and told the MR tenants they could leave if they didn't like it. It didn't affect me, but I felt so bad for those folks. Never again will I put myself out for such people. After reading the shit they put on the TA Facebook page and how nasty, snarky and smug they are toward the longtime tenants and those suffering on the Oval, I hope their rents get doubled when their leases are up. Nasty bunch of Flyover Trash.

Just a suspicion, because I have no proof, but I sense that some of these new cheerleaders are from the Stuyvesant Town "mom" Facebook group and that they have come to counter whatever is said that's negative and even laugh at that. Again, just a suspicion. ;-)

The cheerleaders are almost entirely market rate tenants (not fully) who pay exorbitant amounts of money to live in this second rate hellhole, and they need to justify why they choose to live here. Their justification are these stupid events and they bash everyone who disagrees with them.

I think you are right. When their friends roll their eyes when they find out what they are paying to live here, the cheerleaders probably say: "Oh, but we have the most magnificent free live concerts on the Oval. Why, just last week Beyonce and JayZ performed live here. Next week there's an Oldies Nite and they have booked Mick Jagger and the Stones because they want some of those older folk to join the fun."

Of course Stuytown needs cheerleaders to convince people that things are swell here. It used to be that things were so enviously amazingly peaceful with high quality of life here it was the best kept secret in NY with a long wait list to get in. Now they need cheerleaders, advertising mobiles, and internet ads begging people to come to NY and stay in Stuytown. The cheerleaders are to be ignored for the loudmouths they are as they try to shout about things being great when the property is failing.

@1:07 PM: I wouldn't describe this place as a second rate hellhole, but it is far from luxury and I think the MR tenants overpay. If the apartments were soundproof and if we had a doorman, then it might be worth what they pay, but I think Management tries to make up for the deficiencies by providing this third rate entertainment and the MR tenants feel they have to get something free for what they are paying to live here.

If the members of the mom Facebook group actually read this blog should someone bother to post about how the precious offspring of these moms are deposited in oval daily by day care workers with no organizational activities....just hanging on steel bars with chains and screaming like they are practicing to be inmates in a prison riot oneday. Not tiger moms. That is for sure.

I agree. These so called entertainment amenities are compensation for a doorman, pool, and other real amenities that apartments at this rent should have. Not many are falling for it as we see the dorm and hotel population on the rise.

What I find a lot is on the top of the main page. Things have not changed for the better that much and some things have gotten worse. I took my morning walk and bench-sitting to "enjoy" the weather and the view. Along the way, on the loop, I saw many discarded bits of paper and that the loop was dirty, real dirty. Not just the discarded garbage, but the dog urine stains and streaks all over the place. It looked like a pig sty, no pun intended. For sure, the workers still did not start their tour, it being too early. Next time, but I won't say when, I should bring my camera, though to some, photos will not make a difference.

Yes, this place has gone downhill, and Management should know this, but they keep up a facade. As I said, I see the violations of city code and Management's own rules all the time. But they (Management and PS) still want to BS residents.

Sorry, it is not working and hasn't worked for a long time. If you paid a lot for your apartment, sorry for that, but it is your choice. If you are an "old-timer," I feel your pain and know that, mostly, you can't move due to finances. And Management just wants you to move out (or die), so they can renovate your apartment and charge for it much more than you are paying. That is the one consolation. You are still here.

Being divisive on this board and the TA FB page is no different than what’s going on on the national stage. Instead of working together for a common cause - whether it be national, state, city, or town - we all find as many reasons as possible to fight about everything.

We are all social media warriors that know everything, and our side is never wrong. EVER. People need to wake up and work together, otherwise Stuy Town and this country as a whole will continue down this disgusting path of divisiveness.

I don't read the TA page anymore because it is too depressing and argumentative. Some people seem to dominate it by flaming each other and none of it makes much sense. It's true that the property has gone downhill, not just since Blackstone took over, but ever since the TS days. Blackstone has done nothing to improve it or reverse the slide. I'm a longtime tenant and have no intention of moving until I go out in the body bag. If I could afford to move, I would because the place has just become so depressing for older people. They make us feel like pariahs and we are the ones who helped build the community spirit here because it was a very community-spirited place at one time. It was also clean, quiet and a lovely place to come home to after a hard days work. We older folk are very aware that a lot of the younger tenants (though not the students and not most of the young professionals who just here for a year or two) resent us and think we should not be here. I get that the people who are a bit older and have families feel that we should be paying what they are paying and resent the fact that we're not. We couldn't! We get a lot of snark and sarcasm from that demo.

One particular older lady on the TA page throws out a lot of barbs toward the real rent stabilized tenants. I get it that she is bitter and resentful that she pays market rate, but that is not our fault and she could go elsewhere if she chose to do so. The world doesn't revolve around her and the world is not a fair place, at least not her concept of fairness. She should enjoy her financial ability to live in a renovated apartment in PCV and let go the bitterness and jealousy. I'm not surprised that some of the older RS tenants suffer from depression (as many do) and may even feel suicidal.

I don't think we are going to wake up. Someone told me that Albert Einstein said, "I don't know how World War III will be fought. But I do know that World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

I agree. We are going to destroy most of us, the other species, much of the life of the planet before we stop our idiocy.

In Kurt Vonnegut's brilliant novel, Galapagos, his main thesis was that it was our "big brains" that do us in every time.

I don't see us working together, as 11:07 A.M. writes. I wish, fervently, that we would.

The Hindus divide time into 4 epochs in a typical cycle of Golden Age devolving into ignorance and division and suffering. We've been descending steadily, for thousands of years, into the "Iron Age" of the Kali Yuga, the last "yuga," or epoch, before we begin the cycle once more. Someone suggested to me that we won't move through it fully for another 300 years. I believe it.

Meanwhile, is there a chance on earth that we CAN at least ATTEMPT to help one another and STAND UP AND FIGHT?

I am probably one of the few residents who actually is very good-natured to everyone, young and old alike. That said, I do hate. I hate garbage and not following "the rules." Not my rules, too. So, yes, when I go outside and am assaulted by garbage of whatever kind, and the rules being willfully ignored, I can't but get a negative feeling. And if I am really pissed, which happens at times, I can hate, though I think that word is too strong. Bratty children? Mostly I suspect their parents or nannies.

I was there last night, hanging out on a bench for the entire time so I could witness firsthand what the turnout was, but of course my phone was dead and wasn’t able to take photos.

Here was my take. Attendance wasn’t horrible, and by that I mean in comparison to the absolutely horrible attendance at other events. However, there was anywhere between 100-200 people for this “great turn out.”

Again, I ask the people who claim for this to be a great turn out to compare that number to the overall tenancy of the property. Even if it was 200, that is less than 1% of the total population of this property.

So we disrupt thousands for enjoyment of a few hundred. Seems logical for Rick’s team. It’s the same logic the TA uses to think they can speak for all tenants with membership at less than 1% of the total population.

I have not seen even 200 generally, and less than that. I'm talking about previous years. Once in a while, one may get over 200, but it is not a common occurrence. But, again, the issue isn't size of the crowds. The issue is peace and quiet.

As per the STR "The issue is peace and quiet.

Yes, In addition to that issue, THE issue is also the NYC zoning designation of the interior of STPCV with is classified d as R7-2. There are never ANY ID (except for the huge Soul Asylum concert-that was CWC back in 2014) checks for access to the Oval for the concerts, movies and any other special event. If ID’s are not checked, these are not resident amenities but are commercial events open to the general public used for marketing purposes, illegal (IMO) under the R7-2 zoning designation. Let’s not be deflected by the number of attendees, whether the movies are old, people who don't live at the Oval saying that they LOVE the events, etc., these matters are designed to throw up smoke against the two main issues, the quiet enjoyment of one' home (signed lease between SPS and the tenant) and the R7-2 zoning designation. In fact, IMO, the R7-2 NYC designation, this is THE issue, not tinkering with volume levels, etc. Let me also say, as per my photos shown on this thread, I have no problem showing how the SPS cheerleaders at the TA FB page lie with impunity re the number of attendees at these events.

Your repost of the 11/3/2011 STR issue states “While the legality of commercial activities is yet to be determined by the Department of City Planning”. Remember who was the head of that department back then, the Bloomturd era? Amanda Burden, who was the REBNY “it” girl. She would approve anything commercial on the Oval. See the Wiki profile about her and try not to throw up.

There has never been a critical review of how the PCVST R7-2 zoning designation and how it is interpreted and enforced in PCVST. The time for that review is now. Full disclosure, I was one of the three ST tenants who were at Power’s office and I’m in touch with Ben Jacobs, his community liaison.

I encountered our "esteemed" TA President, Susan Steinberg, and asked her in the most polite and deferential manner what the Tenants Association position is on the noise bombardment and disruption of our "peace and quiet" by the so-called Oval events and amenities.
Do Oval residents have to by bombarded by noise? Do we not deserve peace and quiet in our homes?
She refused to respond and scurried away like a frightened rodent.
What a piece of work!
Nice going, Susan!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>This is NYC, it’s inherently loud. Last night at the Oval was no louder than if you lived on an avenue.<<

That is nice of Management to say and to inform anyone who complains about the lack of peace and quiet. HOWEVER, the older tenants, who have been here before the money sign went up, do note that this place (the Oval) was quiet enough for that not to be a response AT ALL.

Sorry, but learn something about the way things used to be around here, because this is one of the prime bull stories put forth now by Management. And some newer people believe it.

BIGMO said...

The only way you can possibly change Blackstone behavior is through 'public shaming' by having multiple media outlets expose what you might deem as bad behavior such as the concerts/movies at the Oval. The other way is through lawsuits if Blackstone is actually violating any local laws. A combination of the two is even better.

Contacting local pols might seem like a good idea and they might seem to take an interest but most pols are 'owned' by big business and big lobbying groups such as the real estate industry. This should not come as a surprise if you live in the real world.

I've been here in Stuytown for 40 years and never joined the TA because it's always been a 'paper tiger.' Whatever 'juice' they might have had is pretty much non-existent these days. Again, this should surprise nobody. Do you think this mostly transient community here now is interested in joining the TA?

Again, lawsuits and the media are really your only avenue to effect any changes.

The rest is nonsense and a waste of time.

Edmund Dunn said...

"This is NYC, it’s inherently loud. Last night at the Oval was no louder than if you lived on an avenue."

The noise is generated by SPS; it is not caused by fire engines or ambulances. This is just a version (usually from someone recently moved to NYC) of the old “if you don’t like noise, move to____” line And as I have posted, since there are NO ID checks, ALL of these oval events are commercial activities, illegal under the NYC R7-2 zoning designation for the interior of PCVST.

BTW, 3.15 PM, if you respond, please have the nerve to use your real name and verify if you live (as I do) facing the Oval.

For this night's event, we have all of our AC's on high and both white noise machines at full blast.

And to everyone, again, please start using your real name if you post here.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I just returned from the movie "event." I took photos. ;-)

From my granted imperfect count, there were about 150-200 people, but I'm also including children. There were a lot of children. A lot of strollers. Some of the kids were bored and running around; some watched the movie. The adults? Some watched the movie but some were more interested in their iphones. Amazingly there was a "student" group that sat in the middle and were not facing the screen or paying attention to the movie. They were just sharing whatever and talking. The noise on the north side of the Oval seemed low, and on the south side, not as low, but I still couldn't hear much. Perhaps it was those running around kids. Basically, I think the "event" is low-class, but kids can enjoy it, and families have "something to do," which can be a boon to them.

As long as I was outside, I did check Five Stuy Cafe. There are workers inside. I don't know what went wrong, but outside and inside, the place is partially tapped up.

At that point, I did not see a "for residents and their guests," but I'll have more to post about that sign, or lack of it, and not just in the cafe.

I did see, right outside my building, a PS officer ask if a resident lived there, who was walking two dogs. This is the first time I have seen that, at least in recent times. The resident did live in the community, but had no official blue lanyard. A word wasn't said about that.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>She refused to respond and scurried away like a frightened rodent.<<

Classic response from our TA.

Anonymous said...

These are really low class events. I think they might have lowered the volume to appease those of us who object to the movies. Have my window closed and AC on, so not really sure if they actually lowered the volume or not.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>R7-2 NYC designation, this is THE issue<<

I will post about this, maybe tomorrow or the next day. Bottom line is that I did not see at the cafe or the geenmarket a sign about "only for residents and their guests." Nor any PS officer checking the "events."

This R7 designation seems to be dead around here. But not for long. ;-)

With the so called Oval Cafe "entertainment', the next step (and you know it’s coming), SPS will push for a liquor license. See the 3/25/14 T&V link: “CW requests, then pulls request for wine and beer license at Oval CafĂ©”

CB6 may deny it but the SLA approves everything, they are so corrupt, just go to the EV Grieve blog for that Kabuki dance that is done daily at the EV by the SLA.. We will see.

In my opinion, it’s time to go to the press over this issue. SPS is clearly violating the “for residents and their guests only” zoning restriction that enables them to have 5 Stuy Cafe, the Greenmarket and the events on the Oval, since they check exactly ZERO resident IDs for any of these. Also, every Friday on the Brian Lehrer show, WNYC radio has a live, hotline segment with Mayor de Blasio where people can call in and speak with him. I think it would be very fitting if someone called in and spoke to the Mayor about this issue, especially since he was instrumental in seeing that this property was sold to Blackstone. You can also Tweet questions/complaints to de Blasio using the hashtag #AskTheMayor anytime (even during the week).

I have a question concerning our Councilman, Keith Powers: Before becoming a councilman, he was a lobbyist or REBNY; he was also a member of the TA Board. If he was a member of the TA Board at the same time as he was a lobbyist for REBNY isn't that a MAJOR conflict of interest?

BTW, I heard the Oval whatever last night and it WAS loud. I think Management is being deliberately malicious and turning it up loud with the intention of disturbing the Oval residents and the complainers who reside therein!

When Blackstone first took over this property, didn't Rick Hayduk pledge to keep the sound system down a bit when those creepy evens were on? Maybe I dreamed it.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

As I said, I don't live around the Oval, so I don't know how one's apartment is during this time. My impression was that the first film (I wasn't around for the second one) is less noisy than what I heard--what was it?--two weeks ago. That's on the fountain side. On the "regular side" the film was audible, clearly, but, for me, I really didn't pay attention to the words. As I wrote, the experience was low-class, but yeah, what are you going to do with others who think it's "wonderful"?

As for R7 zoning, this Management needs to be told by the city about that zoning law. Otherwise, nobody gives a damn.

Anonymous said...

Blackstone also promised to limit the number of students coming in. Instead they tripled it.

Anonymous said...

I live on the Oval on the other side from the screen. The first film was barely heard. The second film, Dirty Dancing, was blasted. I could hear every word of the songs and could barely hear my TV. It was even louder than Grease was.

Anonymous said...

Good luck with deBlasio. He was instrumental in pushing the Blackstone deal.

Anonymous said...

When you live in an apartment directly facing any street, you know what you are in for - noise from vehicles, people, and emergency vehicles. I chose my apartment facing the FDR because of the view and knowing very well I would have noise issues.

If I had chosen an apartment facing the oval, my expectation would have been for peace and quiet, and management promotes that for apartments facing the oval (check out their own listings regarding oval apartments!).

Management causes the oval noise, not outside noises like you have on streets. And if you chose an apartment facing an avenue expecting quiet, then I have a bridge I can sell you...

So far no response from the meeting with Powers. Very disheartening. Concerts getting louder and louder and we are captives to it.

Blackstone and Rick are liars, and it takes a special kind of callousness and disregard for human beings when you lie directly to our faces, and smile about it nonetheless. That is Rick in a nutshell.

And yes, I know he takes his orders from Blackstone, but it still takes a sick person to continue to do what he does with little to no regard for the people living in Stuy Town.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Good luck with deBlasio. He was instrumental in pushing the Blackstone deal.

Yes, that's what Adam Rose said. And, as he also said, all the more reason to out deBlasio PUBLICLY about what's going on here. I'd love to see him try to wriggle out of it on air. And, if he says that he will look in to it and then ends up doing nothing, we can call him on it again PUBLICLY on air on the Brian Lehrer show.

Anonymous said...

Forget about PS doing anything to deter crime in this place, they are just here to greet people now. It’s very disheartening that a respected and decorated member of the NYPD is allowing this to happen on her watch. She is no longer the Director of PS, she is merely a manager of another division of resident services. That’s all these guards are now - glorified resident services representatives.

Anonymous said...

Hate to break it to you, but that ship has sailed. If you don’t live in a true RS apartment, the chance of you ever getting an affordable rent in this community or this city is 0%.

And for you to bring people’s rents into this is pretty low. Why should someone in a true RS apartment paying <$2000 not be able to enjoy peace and quiet in their apartment? Is peace and quiet and complaining about noise only reserved for people paying $4000+???

Get out of here.

Now management, our politicians, and local businesses are pushing the donations for the migrant children. Meanwhile, there are children suffering at our very doorstep.

I walked our surrounding neighborhoods earlier today, and I came across 4 homeless families with children at tow. Sure, they were together, but does that make their suffering any less? I gave each of those 4 families some food, and the gratitude was immeasurable.

Yes, what’s happening at the border with the children is horrible, but don’t forget about the people close to home that are also suffering. As is the case with management and politicians, this is all for a media grab, but the rest of us can make a difference right here in our neighborhoods.

I thought Management had already "jumped the shark." But I was wrong. There is more to come!

Anonymous said...

So my wife is a bit older than the stereotypical mom in the Stuy Town Moms Facebook page, but she’s still on it.

While I completely agree that they have a very entitled mindset and a mean girls pack mentality, they get things done. They band together as a united voice, and they go directly to Rick as a group when things don’t go as they would like.

They don’t like or trust the TA, and they have more members in their FB page than the TA has, with no yearly membership dues.

Say what you will about them, but they are doing what other groups need to be doing if results are expected. They don’t bother with the TA or politicians, they go straight to management with numbers.

They also pick and choose their battles. So while people are on here complaining about noise anonymously, they are going directly to Rick with their actual names to tell him how much they love the events.

Don’t kill the messenger, but these are the reasons why that group continues to get what they want, and this group sees nothing.

Anonymous said...

What TA? It doesn’t exist

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>They also pick and choose their battles. So while people are on here complaining about noise anonymously, they are going directly to Rick with their actual names to tell him how much they love the events.<<

It helps tremendously that, in general, they agree with Management. Management rules. At least when not faced with a bigger power, like the city.

Anonymous said...

Yes, They agree with management on many things, but the group also does disagree with management more than you may think.

Some things they’ve fought recently:
- the oval biking signs and their razor sharp edges. They had this one delayed, but by the looks of it, they aren’t winning this one until a kid slices their eye open and sues Rick.
- key cards for playground access (battle won)
- protective covering for kid playgrounds (battle won, waiting for installation of sun blockers)
- adding a kids night out (battle won to the chagrin of many)
- pay to play soccer programs and summer camps (battle won - a few moms pushed for this stuff)

What’s the TA fought for recently???

Again, they know what they want and the go to Rick with an identifiable voice, and Rick listens to them. They also kiss Ricks ass quite a bit so that when they are mad about something or want something, they don’t just look like complainers.

I like remaining anonymous, but I completely understand that Rick probably views this blog as 2-3 legit people that post their names and then a whole lot of nothing. For all he knows it could just be one person posting all the anonymous posts!

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I think, but don't know though I've been told, that something like playground access by key cards was already in the works. I don't know what entails "kids night out," what night? I could be wrong but soccer programs and summer camps were already here, but it's possible that these programs are more structured with Stuy Town than before. And, of course, money is involved. Always money.

>>For all he knows it could just be one person posting all the anonymous posts!<<

For all he knows, but I could tell him deferentially. I am assuming that there is no contest between the "Stuy Town Moms" group and this or the TA Facebook blog. That said, let me repeat: It is the law that matters, not individual or group choices. And we haven't heard the last of city or state or federal law. I would say that things are starting to "heat up" in that sphere. Give it time.

Anonymous said...

STR, does it really look like they care about the law?? If something was going to be done, it would have been done already, and they know it.

Kid night out are Tuesday from 5-7 in the oval (of course).

Anonymous said...

My neighbors are moving out this Wk/end, after one year, to an apt. they found on 14th between 1st and 2nd. I'm sure they're not paying more than the ST rent so there are apts to be found. and if you move close by it's so convenient to come on over to all the ST events, take in the beautiful landscaping (not being sarcastic here - it's just a gorgeous place to live) and cut your rent.
Will post the exact figures when I speak with them again, including the realtor.

Anonymous said...

"And we haven't heard the last of city or state or federal law. I would say that things are starting to "heat up" in that sphere. Give it time."

I hope you are right, STR. I truly hope you are right. Because Hayduk runs this place like it is not even a part of New York City and not subject to any of the NYC laws. He flagrantly and blatantly violates the noise laws, traffic laws, safety laws, occupancy laws and many other quality of life and safety laws. If DeBlasio and our local "representatives" were not so bought and paid for and so far up the ass of the REBNY leadership, Hayduk would have to comply with NYC laws. Personally, I don't think he knows what he is doing most of the time. I think he's out of his league running a property like this after whatever it was he ran in Boca.

I don't plan on voting this coming Tuesday. Why? They are ALL shit.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I haven't begun to fight. Legally, of course.

Good luck with that... Blackstone, Tishman Speyer, and a handful of other financial and real estate companies are the law in this town. They pad the pockets of any city authority making person/organization, and that means they ultimately do what they please with absolutely zero repercussions.

Hence everything going on in Stuy Town.

I’m really beginning to believe what people are saying about them. I guess the photo-ops that susan takes with them should be a telltale sign of their working together.
