Seen on Facebook, June 9th -- That's Today!

Added another ad, 6/10:

Not really. I tried. The only place that Wifi is free is via the Oval Cafe. Otherwise, the property here is very unfriendly toward Wifi.

Nice plant arrangement.

Okay - which agency is there to whom this can be reported?

Nice 80% carpet requirement.

Remember the recent thread at the TA FB page where the cheerleaders came out in force, saying that Airbnb is not an issue here and that one of the posters who thought the issue was significant was called out as racist. Airbnb destroys affordable housing EVERYWHERE and is illegal in PCVST as it is in ALL NYS RS apartments. "Shared Economy" my ass.

Nice carpeting

Anonymous said...

Probably posted by management!

Anonymous said...

I still contend that management may be complicit in the Airbnb situation here. They do not appear to act on these newspaper ads and the Airbnb population seems to be on the increase. There are registration policies that they could implement.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

There are a couple of things that Management could do to cut down on the AirBnb population here, but they are not doing them. Obviously, these things require more man/woman power and hours, but it can be done.

Anonymous said...

STR, they are paying $100k a month for a truck, so they could pay for people to combat AirBnB. I guarantee they have people checking for AirBnB in true RS apartments, but turn a blind eye to anyone else doing it. They are probably also personally partaking in the practice.

Anonymous said...

I believe that Management is OK with AirbnB. It so obviously is a thriving industry here. Management knows all about it and are not as dumb as they appear to be. Skeevy and sleazy, yes; dumb, no. They probably get kick-backs from AirbnB.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the three posts above. Management might well be in on it and would definitely persecute RS tenant in opposition to market rate. Helps them to find the Pig Sty.

Anonymous said...

Know why management doesn’t mind Airbnb travelers in complex? Because they are not tenants so no right to complain about toxic noise pollution from concerts, movies, etc. that ruin this place for majority of residents except for 10 -20 parents and their wild spawn that are so desperate to justify the high rent they pay to live here they deluded themselves to thinking they are cool sitting on their picnic blankets while most of us look out on them with their wine and cell phones ignoring their own kids....long time residents that have right to complain should do so more and more publicly..

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I don't think Management gets kick-backs from AirBnb the way we think of term. They just don't want to spend the extra money and man/woman power. They, and their reps and PS, want to be considered our "friends."

Anonymous said...

They may not get kickbacks but they get high rents when they fill these overpriced apartments with Airbnb guests. A good way to fill the apartments up along with the dorm concept

I wake up with the sun, but this time I didn't and I slept late. What gives ST workers the right to scream and shout across the loop when it is not yet 8 AM?

Anonymous said...

It is incredibly noisy in the morning. My bedroom window faces the 14th ST loop and every morning I hear the sounds of workers yelling, various machines and garbage being attended to.

Anonymous said...

This sicko was right across the street from the property in a homeless encampment on 19th and the FDR. These people have been walking up and down 20th with much more frequency, so please be aware of your surroundings.

Morning starts at 7 am at the latest. I overlook the 14th Street Loop and the porters yell as they rattle out the garbage and recycling; the jackhammering and blasting on 14th Street as they work on the subway platforms and various car drivers leaning on the horn all make for a rude wake-up! This is NOT a peaceful oasis anymore. People living on the Oval have that ridiculous "entertainment" shit to deal with and we on 14th Street have a different kind of noise pollution. Add to that the yappy dogs, door slammers and stamping heels on uncarpeted floors and we have us a place were nervous breakdowns are almost an inevitability. And they want us to "refer a friend!" Wouldn't be friends for long if anyone did that!

LOL Very amusing, over at the TA Facebook page. I have several responses, but the primary one is:

Do the photos that I take and put on the main page--or they a lie?

Answer me that "Peter Stuyvesant," John Marsh, or whomever....

Second question: Is it true that the TA was not able to do anything at the leasing office or with that yellow placard in the windows?

Anonymous said...

John Marsh created this “Peter Stuyvesant” persona, yet he’s on the TA board preaching that you can’t take anonymous posters seriously?

Come on John, you have some nerve calling out tenants when your TA board cronies hide behind Peter Stuyvesant. How about you tell them to post from their personal accounts and stop acting anonymously? Then maybe, as you say, we can take the TA seriously.

In order for Airbnb to promote a StuyTown apartment in an advertisement like that, the owners of the property would have to approve it, approve the photo, approve the copy, approve the media, and it looks like from the content of the ad that New York City administration would have to approve the advertisement as well because it is promoting New York City Tourism.

This is an advertisement for New York City tourism to stay in a hotel in StuyTown.

The marketing departments of StuyTown, New York City Tourism and Airbnb would have to create and approve this sponsorship. That includes Rickyboy.

The legal department of Airbnb would have to approve the advertisement, the legal department at StuyTown would have to approve it (Fred Knapp) and the New York City Tourism and Legal Departments would have to approve the ad photo, copy, etc. Airbnb cannot legally advertise a sponsorship without the approval of all parties in the advertisement.

Airbnb Legal Department can be reached at legal@airbnb.com for any information about who approved the advertisement for the illegal rental in StuyTown......or to make a complaint about Airbnb sponsoring an illegal hotel in New York City.

311 is the correct place to report Airbnb by phone or email, you can register a complaint.
But I'm wondering if Keith Powers would be of any use? Take these complaints to management and see what they have to say? There are pix of Stytown all over Airbnb sites. They do a great business here.
and anyone trying to play the race card, get the fuck outta here. most Airbnb tenants are white, certainly the ones Ive seen renting here. stop trying to derail the conversation, you will not be successful.

Anonymous said...

comments at the pcvst facebook page are closed (and I have no account there anyway) but I thought this needed reposting:
"Actually, we're more pissed at the people violating their lease agreement, but we have plenty left over for the people effing up our lives. Wanna visit? Pay for an actual hotel room. Can't afford it? Amazing! We can't either."
A-fucking-men.

and to the poster going on and on about her f--ing Puerto rican family visiting--no one gives a sh!t about your Puerto rican family, the discussion is about the illegal removal of NYC housing from a rapidly shrinking housing market due to Airbnb. No one can afford to live here BECAUSE of Airbnb effectively taking large swathes of property out of the housing market and "rezoning" them as hotels.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I visited the TA Facebook hoping to get an answer to my primary question. I guess not.

Regarding dogs: there is a reason for the dog piss all over the place. You can write (again!) to Rick, but what good will that do? The dog piss will be there or someplace else. Dogs piss publicly, and our landlords wanted it this way. Good old Rob wanted to allow dogs (for more tenants, supposedly, and therefore more money), and the result is obvious and what we see. Nothing can be done. So, if you like dog piss and crap and barking, your landlords wanted it. Rick can do nothing. His overlords want dogs, and so be it.

Anonymous said...

John Marsh goes on the thread to praise the TA for work they did regarding the submetering back in 2009. Guess who was TA President at the time, that’s right, John Marsh. Guess who was also posting at the same exact time as John this afternoon, yup it was Peter Stuyvesant! Doubt there’s any coincidence to that...

Then Marsh goes on to bash anonymity, which was made famous by him with his alias persona, Peter Stuyvesant. When Peter Stuyvesant retires and the TA board members use their own names when addressing us, then and only then will I stop speaking anonymously.

Anonymous said...

Rick is useless, powerless and impotent. He's not a Manager, he's dummy planted here to play the role of Manager. We have dog shit and piss everywhere. I have a yapping little dog in a neighboring apartment who yaps his little head off from 6 Am to 9 or 10 AM and then starts up again at 11:30 PM.

With the noise and the filth inside and outside the buildings, this has become one fucking hellhole. Rick, take your under-used "amenities" and "concerts" and "events" and shove them. You are not affected by them because you live in PCV and seldom step foot in STY Town. You are not the worse Manager we've ever had, but you're not the best. Blackstone is no better than Speyer, CWC or any of the bloodsucking vermin we've had here "Managing" the property. Many of us have lived here long enough to remember when the property was professionally run and we are pretty sick of all you grifters who come passing through and make it a little worse with each transient and incompetent one of you.

Anonymous said...

I agree. Sounds like he was bent out of shape because tenants met with Keith Powers. Anonymous posters are just as credible as named posters. Some of those named posters on the TA are divisive and nasty. His point is ridiculous.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Regarding anonymity, it is a choice. Many people do not want to be identified for whatever reason, their choice. Some do. Their choice. Further, by now most of "voices" are known to me. And I do not "pass" everything. I have outed myself to various people. I've met with Management, and they know who I am. My choice, at least with current Management.

My choice, also, to go into the Armed Services years ago. No doubt that is what John Marsh has done also. A fellow ex-GI. He should identify that and be proud of his service.

https://town-village.com/2018/06/07/hoylman-epstein-predatory-equity/#comments

Hoylman and Epstein have no courage, no integrity or they would have named the biggest predatory deal in NY history, Stuy Town and the biggest predators on the globe Blackstone Ivanhoe Cambridge. Naming Croman is small time and naming Kushner is political. These two, Epstein and Hoylman, are not looking out for tenants and really are not looking out for their constituents in StuyTown. They get themselves a headline, some press, and neglect StuyTown yet again. They did jackshit since Tishman Speyer BlackRock bought from MetLife on spec to demo and build luxury hotel condos in 2006 and again in 2015 when Blackstone and DeBlasio put the nails in the coffins of the StuyTown middle class long term tenant's homes.

Anonymous said...

I agree about Hoylman. He was at the first meeting with Blackstone with Kavanagh and Garodnick smiling with the new owners. The three did nothing to protect us from these predatory owners. Epstein is new.

Anonymous said...

If Blackstone, et al hadn't bought this place who would have bought it? It would just be some other predator.

Once again, I was chased out of the Oval in the morning due to excessive noise and fumes. I guess Tuesday is that day that all the lawnmowers and workers head over to "clean" the Oval and its interior grass. Ask yourselves this, why are some of the workers wearing masks? In the light, I can see the dust kicked up. This goes into the lungs, unless you have protection. The people passing by, on their way to work in Manhattan, don't complain. And what is the point, they think. No one is listening.

Again, life here in Stuy Town that you never hear about OFFICIALLY. And, of course, the TA is silent.

Anonymous said...

I miss the days when the Oval was a beautiful tree park. The sound of the trees "whispering" in the wind was absolutely heart-lifting and soothing at the same time.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Here I thought I was joking not too long ago. A circus in the Oval. Well, they have one, at least one person doing a circus act on that new Oval platform and maybe 20 to 30 residents surrounding him.

Good going, Rick.

Of course, I didn't get the peace and quiet that I was searching for at the Oval.

A circus! I am beyond speechless.

Anonymous said...

Rick must have thought was being made a Cruise Director on a Carnival Cruise ship, instead of a GM in a large HOUSING complex. HOUSING. As in HOMES. As in THE PLACE PEOPLE COME BACK TO AFTER A HARD DAY'S WORK. We LIVE here. We VACATION elsewhere and seek our entertainment elsewhere.

SMFH.

Even on their own Instagram page, they posted a video from the kids event tonight and you could see it was poorly attended. They don’t even care that it’s poorly attended, they are just flaunting this stupid events over the heads of everyone living in the oval.

And to think... if these events are that poorly attended while school is still in session and families are still around, it’s going to be a ghost town once they all go away for the summer. But hey, the events will still be there to piss everyone off!

OT, but there is a jealous old boot on the TA fb page who thinks we should all be sub-metered for our electricity.

This same woman has written many comments over there and on T&V which have her rank resentment for he [real] rent stabilized tenants just oozing through her remarks. She is Management's ideal tenant. Maybe even a plant.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

"Metropolitan Life maintains a strong presence in Stuyvesant Town through its resident manager, William Potter. For the past 10 years he has managed the staff of 600 maintenance, security, recreation and landscaping personnel. Tenants give his troops high marks. Maintenance men are on call 24 hours a day, and debris is rarely seen on the lawns.

"Mr. Potter expects neighborliness: tenants receive letters signed by him when they mishandle garbage, walk on the grass, ride bikes on pedestrian paths, sunbathe on rooftops or sneak in the forbidden dog."

Stuy Town Reporter said...

"The renting office quotes a waiting period of five to seven years from application to move-in. But there can be unseen obstacles. Fewer than 400 apartments turn over each year, and according to Mr. Potter, about 40 others are reserved by Metropolitan Life for its employees. Tenants also bear witness to the the occasional apartment that goes to ''a friend.''

"Recently Mr. Potter asked a member of his staff to make a few calculations. ''Strictly speaking,'' he said, ''we don't need to accept any applications for the next 22 years.''"

Anonymous said...

“Fewer than 400 apartments turn over each year”

I’d say the average month has 400 apartments turning over these days. I think 4800 turnovers a year is a fair number by the looks of things.

And forget a 22 year waiting list, you could walk in today and get an apartment.

Mr Potter is rolling around in his grave at what this place become. Damn shame.

Anonymous said...

OMG! STR, how things have changed by 180 degrees! Now they cruise around in a trailer begging for renters and the place is a total mess. It is heartbreaking.

Regarding the 11:04 AM comment, I think I know who that lady is and I agree that she has an air of resentment and righteousness. It makes me angry when I think of how some of the "market rate" tenants who are paying through the nose resent the longtime rent stabilized tenants because they pay lower rents than they do. Hey! We were here first and we are the kind of people the development was built for: middle class working people. We never asked for the place to go "market" and people to come in here and pay exorbitant rents. If the greedy Speyer bastard hadn't bought the place and incurred humungous debt (which he walked away from like a hit-and-run) the property would still be ticking along nicely with rent stabilized tenants. Speryer saddled the property with debt because he thought he could drive all the rent stabilized tenants out. He is a heartless bastard and I hope he gets his comeuppance one day. Maybe he should look back at his ancestry and see what was done to them and ask himself if he's much better.

THIS IS FROM STAND UP AND FIGHT:

An update, of sorts . . .

As I brace for (yet another) Wednesday night sound assault of severity ("Movie Night"), I offer this:

1. Eight (8) days after the 10:30 a.m. sit-down in Keith Powers' 42nd Street office, I spoke with his staffers a few times, mainly to register dismay and tension resulting from the noise and disruption during last Wednesday night's 4 hours of "Family-Themed Movies." More about that night in a minute.

2. I finally was able to speak with someone in Keith's office at the end of last week who assured me that they were working on our problem, and that, as discussed, they needed a week to a week and a half to get back on their progress.

I look forward to hearing from them in the near future.

3. Toward the end of last week, I also spoke with a staffer of our new Assemblyman (74th District), Harvey Epstein. I believe he took office only on April 24th and is more or less swamped and working hard to catch up. His staffer seemed interested in our trouble here, especially because our leases are being continually breached. Epstein, a public interest attorney, has a strong background helping tenants. I was similarly promised a response in the near future.

This is all a good start.

I encourage people to email me on quietenjoymentnow@gmail.com to discuss more ideas relating to this situation.

If there are any attorneys who can offer us guidance regarding the zoning laws (we are residential, I believe), lease violation, and such, it would be helpful.

Finally, regarding last Wednesday's "Movie Night" which featured the MUSICAL movie (LOUD) "Grease:" although I've been assured by fellow residents that the following has been normal and standard for years now, I observed people sitting on the Oval publicly drinking alcohol. I also smelled overwhelming waves of marijuana, twice. Apparently, drinking and drugging are part of the entertainment.

Home, Sweet Home? I think not.

I wish you rain tonight so that the noise and invasion and disruption and drinking and drugging do not occur . . .

STAND UP AND FIGHT, I wish you well, but you are fighting a losing battle. The "elected officials" you are appealing to are not going to help us one iota because they are bought and paid for by REBNY. It's like asking the SS to appeal to Hitler to knock it off and let people live without persecution.

I counted approximately 40 people at that movie as I passed by with a few playing ball. They gave nerve saying that a lot of tenants want this crap. To boot, it was a cool evening out.

Everyone please vote out Carolyn Maloney already. She did a number on this community. She has got to go so someone better can be in office.

I am one of the 3 who went to the Powers meeting. So you want others to carry your water? Why don't you respond to quietenjoymentnow@gmail.com and join us. Just posting anonymously at this blog does nothing.

This comment plus the usual the TA sucks, if we only had a real TA, all politicians are corrupt, “Alex Jones” who post his conspiracy crap links, blah, blah, are the majority of the posts at this blog. So sick of the cowards here. If you respond to

quietenjoymentnow@gmail.com

we can begin to build a coalition OUTSIDE of the TA. We could expand that email response to a private Google group where we could name names, explore legal options, etc. If not, just stay home, assume the fetal position and do nothing but bitch on this blog.

BTW, do you know that the TA sucks?

To STAND UP AND FIGHT:
I'm a different poster, and I also say Godspeed and good luck to you, but honestly I'm fighting a different fight over here. I may try keith powers but I suspect he's a slimy piece of sh.t and won't be of much help---I'm concerned about AirBnb and the internal noise. The external noise--concerts and so on--is annoying, but its once a week and its finite in duration. I'll take that anyday over the endless crap I have to put up with neighbors stomping around at 2AM, 4 AM, 6AM....so you can take your insults and shove it up your....posterior.
It;s not that people are cowards. we do not all prioritize what you prioritize. And, the sad reality is Powers will focus on one issue, if that. maybe not even one. There's no room for multiple complaints and multiple issues at a time. I'm picking my battles and its not a 4 hour concert.

Anonymous said...

I am more disturbed by the yappy little dog that lives downstairs from me and has a frenzy of yapping at 6 am, 9 pm and sometimes in the wee small hours of the morning. At least the stupid concerts don't go on for more than a couple of hours and while I feel sorry for people living on the Oval, it's not as bad as living on 14th with the back-up noises, blasting and jack-hammering going on all day from early morning until late evening (sometimes even overnight) every day.

The dock is for the superyachts and the uber wealthy pals of Steve Schwarzman. Quality of life issues of StuyTown tenants is of no concern to New York politicians who are building the yacht docks for Schwarzman, Farkas, etc etc. Garodnick is a liar who betrayed his community and probably one of the most corrupt city councilman in history. Dalian Wanda bought Sunseeker yachtmaker when Dalian Wanda was in line to build the hotel on the Peter Cooper site courtesy of the StuyTown tenant association Brookfield partnership with Tishman Speyer. But that fell through and it could not have happened to a more deserving group of greedy failures. The greedy, corrupt Tenant Association deserves to be removed from the premise preferably in prison garb.

Anonymous said...

"m a different poster, and I also say Godspeed and good luck to you, but honestly I'm fighting a different fight over here."

Right now the focus is on Oval events but the with a growing private group, we could then expand into other issues as well. As has been posted over and over here again, the TA is dead, STAND UP AND FIGHT is the start up to an alternative to the TA whereby we could share expertise, name names, pursue legal options, etc.

How can anyone pay over 4 grand for an apartment in this dirty sty because of non amenities such as those lousy movies and concerts. You have to be a sap to fall for that false advertising. The only positives here are location, large size rooms and generally decent service. Not nearly enough to spend that kind of cash. Cheerleaders, you are saps. Enjoy your entertainment while you can still afford to live here.
