Photos taken today, and it's still not the end of the day.

And a photo I took yesterday. You've seen stuff like this all the time.

What a shithole.

AND, 'MANAGEMENT" just doesn't seem to care, whatsoever! SLUM CONDITIONS!

This is STAND UP AND FIGHT!

Good Late Monday Afternoon -

A new initiative we might consider, since the politicians are another arm of the kleptocracy which immiserates and harasses us:

THE SLEEPING BAGS FOR MATTRESSES PROJECT:

(1) Greet each transient seeking to lug a mattress into a building, (2) Build community by recruiting passers-by to assist you in relieving the transient of such mattress, and CHEERFULLY, IN A NEIGHBORLY WAY, OF COURSE,

. . . Explain to transient that we are providing them with a truly useful piece of furniture for their TINY PIECE OF A ROOM: a brand new, beautiful SLEEPING BAG! (3) Hand transient the SLEEPING BAG.

As for the would-be mattresses in the TINY PIECE OF A ROOM: (4) If it is definitely new and unused, we sell it and donate the proceeds to our new TENANT ADVOCACY GROUP; (5) If it is used, we make sure that one of our dearly honored and beloved Management or Legal team, or Schwarzman himself, receive our gift to him/her of that marvelous mattress.

There's been some squawking about Associated vs. the new Target store. Of course, Associated is losing money. That was my first impression once I entered Target. Bye-bye, Associated. That said, I buy where it is cheaper, primarily out of a need. Target's price on milk is about 50 cents higher, but their price of their brand of butter is way down.

But, instead of crying about the competition, why don't you get some cashiers to wake up and be nice. Though I don't shop if a cashier is pleasant, it doesn't hurt. There are a few cashiers at Associated who are nice, but some are horrible. Is seems as if you are doing THEM a favor. I feel for the seniors who may find it difficult to go to Target. That 14th Street subway extension is a bitch.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

My prediction is that Associated will close. Save your letters and phone calls. A fight is only worth it, if the people/store is worth it. And some could say that about Stuyvesant Town, too.

IFor some reason Hayduk, under orders from his bosses, is deliberately turning the property into a slum.,,it's a shame, but nothing we can do about it.

STAND UP AND FIGHT--are you serious???? wtf

this is a useless waste of energy.
can we try to come up with actual solutions?

keith powers is a useless piece of shit. So is ben Jacobs, his secretary. there is no action whatsoever on the part of his office. they are in fact a time suck, as you waste your time calling them instead of someone else in the city who might take action. he's an ass kisser with no intention of doing any work, who is trying to buy his way into some higher political office. Don't vote for this guy again--can't believe how many idiots were fooled the first time.

what else can we try?

I thought you were going to suggest inviting the homeless to camp out in our lobbies. management would have to take some action at that point. the little nyu darlings will not rent the apartments if homeless shelters are growing up in the lobbies.

I 'm really irritated at the number of people posting here about Airbnb who HAVE NOT REPORTED IT TO THE CITY.
what the hell do you think is going to happen when you come here and bitch and moan about it????

I can tell you--nothing is going to happen. you're wasting your time.

On the other hand, if we can get a critical mass of complaints lodged at Airbnb about this place, the city will finally take action. and PCVST will have to pay.

I will do whatever it takes to get back at these slumlords. they are disgusting people who deserve to rot in hell. and STR is a coward who will not allow anyone in management to be named specifically, I imagine for fear of libel. IT's not libel if it's true.

Would love to see Associated go. Dirty, minimal stock, boxes lined up in aisles. Was so disappointed that Morton Williams didn’t come in. Only plus is the convenience of the location.

The garbage disposal situation here is deplorable. I have sent photos of it to local politicians and would hope that some action can be taken. There should not be free dumping on the loops of anything. Structures should be built for refuse. Tonight a sofa was right on the sidewalk and a cushion next to the fire hydrant. They need warnings, fines, and maybe officers to watch for this. It is a health issue and is disgusting to visitors. I have never seen anything like if here before. I am sure that the constant move ins and out as well as the Airbnb are largely responsible. A real slum.

>>Morton Williams didn’t come in<<

But...I've had food trouble with Morton Williams. And their cashiers can be worse than Associated's.

>>STR is a coward<<

I suppose so.

itda about Associated. It's close for my aging aunt and the staff is lovely to her. On my way home I stop in get whatever and walk through the oval, i live on the oval. I love Associated and you're much too hard on them. If they close it will be a BS store or worse.

Have you reported Airbnb cases? You have to have specific apartments. Have you sent photos to politicians or press? What have you done?

Anonymous said...

Who do you suggest we call? DeBlasio? He is a key part of this deal with Blackstone. If we don’t have lawyers or a viable TA, there is not much we can do.

Anonymous said...

Not so concerned with attitude if cashiers. Would like a clean well-stocked store.

Many of you are posting complaints and spouting venom at Hayduk and management. I agree 100% with what you are saying, but only three people showed up at the Council Member’s meeting. True, we have seen no positive results or response but what have some of you done or suggested?

Anonymous said...

Naming anyone in management is not a solution or positive in any way. They are all in it together, Hayduk, his team, their lawyers and owners of the corporation. Not sure what you think naming names will do 6:28

I think any business should have cashiers who are pleasant and not rude or dismissive. As I said, that is not my reason for going or not going to a store, but it's basic business sense. Associated days are numbered. There is competition now, which they can't handle. Then we have Blackstone not being behind their back. Blackstone wanted them gone, but were not able to get a good deal, which fell through for them. And those bottle return people, with bags full of bottles, are an embarrassment to the upscale presence that Blackstone craves. I don't see how Associated makes things work in their favor.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

The question now is what is going to replace Associated. Another bank, a Starbucks? I don't see a CVS or Duane Reade, as we have them around the corner at First. Same with a bank. A Starbucks or something similar may work, but it would compete a bit with Five Stuy Cafe. The rent is going to be a kicker.

I've named names when appropriate. All of Management's names should be available on the internet. I'm not going to name "names" just so someone is pissed off and offers no proof. Sometimes I don't name "names," as I know most of these people, personally, and they know me, and that is not my style in that particular case. Other cases can be different. Sorry.

And if you have a better way to run this blog, go right ahead and start your own. So far, it's a "free country."

How about THE OVERCHARGES?

To August 6 at 6:25 p.m. from Stand Up and Fight regarding Sleeping Bags for Mattresses:

The writing was not serious in terms of actual suggestion.

It was pointed humor. The conditions here ARE such that the people using the buildings and environment we call home might be better off sleeping in sleeping bags given their behaviors and intentions. I wrote it to make a point, as a little levity, and a personal way to handle the reality of this ruination.

To those of you who advocate ACTION, who see clearly that the politicians are beyond worthless, but rather one of the REASONS for our degraded/degrading conditions here: I've been asking for ACTION in the form of CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE for months. And a rent strike. And other actions we can take. A new and active Tenants Advocacy group is another answer to the depredations here.

The email in order to seriously discuss these methods to halt the destruction is, again:

Today is the meeting with local leaders. Let’s see how many of you show up with your complaints. I cannot , due to work conflict but I would venture to say the turnout will be more cheerleader types than people on this blog. Once again, no results have been forthcoming from Powers but at least it is important to show your discontent with the way this slum is being managed.

Anonymous said...

Civil disobedience is not effective without numbers. There is only a small minority here who are even commenting and complaining about management. A new TA might be an option, but it is looking glum for this development.

Anonymous said...

7:54, I agree, but unfortunately I think that too many people are afraid to speak out against management/Blackstone other than an anonymous forum. With no backing from politicians or a TA, people worry about retribution from Blackstone, who has unlimited money and power to fight back.

I wish we weren’t in this place, but the politicians and TA and the courts are in the pockets of big real estate, leaving us stranded. It’s reality until I see differently.

Of course I've reported violations of Airbnb to the city. I work full time and have limited time to spend on this but I make time to do this--and then I"m told that mine is the only complaint on file for stytown. maybe this was just a lie from keith powers.
wtf are the rest of you doing?
yes, you need to have a specific apartment. its not that fucking difficult to figure out where people are going. do some work yourself.
