Citi-bike Rules Playground 9

So I passed by Playground 9 (that's the playground that has those Citi-bikes), and found that the actual playground is closed for repainting, etc. But not closed is Citi-bike. Playground 9 was recently worked on, but now, in September, the playground will be closed for basketball. Makes no sense. A normal company, if work needs to be done (a big question mark), would close the playground at the winter months, but not in September!

Unless, of course, Citi-bike requires an "adjustment" at that playground, and time can't be wasted with Citi-bike and our incompetent Management. (Or maybe Management is very competent, but doesn't bother about residents in this situation.)

Regarding the rule of walking your Citi-bike. BS. Today I passed by two Citi-bikes that were not being walked in the pathway by Playground 9.

A big failure. Enjoy September.

Maybe the Fire Pits are for those residents who don't get enough heat in the winter?

The area around the Post Office is also bad. Panhandlers and such. One day the inside smelled so bad that I had to leave. Apparently one came in and stayed a while. Also across the street homeless are lined up with suitcases. Not to mention the vendors who block the way to the bus stop. Great going Powers and Rivera.

And provide heat you clowns

What will those evil bozos think of next. They do the stupidest events and some residents suck them up.

"I see now, having gone to the link. So Stuy Town's newest initiative is to push their "Good Neighbors" policy to help the New York "community".... Fire Pits, included. Hey, guys, instead of this goody Good Neighbors policy, why don't you first clean the place, including dog refuse, enforce the rules (which you are ignoring) and a few other violations I see all the time when I exit the door. Don't be jokers, and just do your job!"

We'll soon be having fire pits in our apartments if they keep fucking with heat. The whole damned project is going going to be one big fire pit with all the space heaters and ovens being used to keep warm. That Hayduk jerk is mentally unbalanced. I'm convinced of that.

Anonymous said...

Unbelievable that they have to put in an entire page in their monthly Blackstone brochure, justifying their heat policy. A whole page. What landlord does that. One who is cheap and buckled and dimes the heat. They are giving just above the bare minimum and that is they say they try. Evil bozos

Anonymous said...

8:23: Please do not be confused or angry. I don't have the full explanation here right now, but I want to just explain that the landlord can elect to charge the lower rate of rent. If they are charging that rate, then all raises will be based upon that rate, and not the higher rate you see.

Which rate is your rent?

I could hear it too and I am all the way over on 14th Street. Usually, I don't hear it so it must have unusually loud today.

As for them raising money for the Bowery Mission, I am inclined to think that the people who stay at the Bowery Mission will have a warmer place to sleep than we do. So sick of this cold, noisy, dirty, crime-infested shithole.

You want to explain that our lease is what? I am saying there are two numbers on the lease. One is X and other is Y. Y is much higher and we have a one year lease. In one year they are going to have the option to charge us closer to Y or Y? Fuck this place then it is scamming

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/27/nyregion/nyc-amazon-delivery.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage

"The push for convenience is having a stark impact on gridlock, roadway safety and pollution in New York City and urban areas around the world."

Article contains a single sentence about packages "going missing" due to logistics issues, but says nothing about opportunistic package theft, which is rampant here in PCVST.

8:32 - the two numbers on your lease are the Preferential Rate (X) and the Legal Rent (Y). Y is usually anywhere from a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars higher than X. Prior to the law changes this past June, the landlord could increase your rent as much as they wanted up to Y when your lease expires. Under the new laws (which you know the Real Estate lobby is working behind the scenes to alter or eliminate), your lower, Preferential Rate will remain in effect (subject to RGB increases), until you move out.

The really, really, REALLY scummy part is that the Leasing Office NEVER, EVER mentions the Legal Rent until the papers are put in front of you to sign. In fact, they won’t even mention it then until the prospective tenant says, “WTF? Why are there two numbers here??”. At which point, they’ll try to smooth it over, nothing to worry about, just a formality. Literally, EVERY market rate tenant I’ve spoken to repeats the same story - Legal Rent never revealed until it’s almost too late to turn back.

Slimy business practice, but it shows who you’re dealing with and what to expect from them...

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know why they took down the directories of tenants that were in the lobbies? That's going to make it harder for the mail people to find a tenant whose mail doesn't have the apartment number included in the address. Also, if you find something with the person's name on it or get a mis-delivered package with only a name and no apartment number, it will be a royal pain having to go outside and search the buzzer directory, plus the fact that some folk are not home to answer their buzzers.

Why does this management have to tinker with really useful stuff, but go all out with the useless stuff that only a handful of tenants are interested in? I don't think Rick Hayduk ever properly learned how to manage a residential property. Organizing events at some resort does not equate to managing a huge, sprawling, multi-unit residential property like PCVST. He is so totally out of his depth. It's sad. They should get someone else who could handle the job successfully and competently. He might be a pleasant person (not that I've ever actually met him), but he doesn't strike me as having it all figured out yet and doubt he ever will. He should have stuck to what he did best (assuming he was good at it or they wouldn't have thought he could do the job he's doing now though not doing it very well).

Yes, and only when it doesn’t cause conflict with the TA or Blackstone. Wonder what kind of lukewarm response he will have in response to heat problems this winter. And we will have them.

The TA should disband, open its books and then get the hell outta Dodge!

Someone on the TA Facebook is complaining about a door at 18 SO being unlocked for ages and calls to "Security" are to no avail. Doesn't he realize that "Security" is now a gopher service for packages delivered to wrong addresses and that "Management" doesn't give a damn about broken doors and other minor issues that could affect our safety? Management has much more important things to worry about, e.g., s'mores in fire pits and doggy haloween events. Get a grip, residents of 18 SO! So maybe a rapist, mugger, burglar, package thief (or all of the aforementioned) will be roaming your building, but remember that Security has real work to do like delivering packages, and Rick has to worry about his fire pits and raising money for the poor souls at the Bowery Mission! Really! Such self-centeredness! Serves you right if you've got derelicts and junkies living in your stairwells by now!

Anonymous said...

Oops! I made a mistake. I looked at the TA fb again and the Open to All building is not 18 SO (don't know why I thought it was) it'f 540 E. 20. Isn't that are scary enough without knowing your building is not secure?

Sorry about the address mix-up, but the fact remains that "Security" and "Management" have not addressed the issue despite several pleas from the tenant.

I was just looking at the photographs on this blog and I can't understand why your management doesn't care about how dirty and gross the place looks. I'm staying with a friend for a while in ST and I can see that the property has really gone down since the last time I was here a few years ago. Maybe the owners are planning to sell, but if that is the plan it would behoove them to spruce it up a bit. That's what people usually do when they want to sell a property! Or maybe they just don't care because it isn't making them enough money. Or maybe the manager is just lazy and not interested. Surprised he still has a job if that is the case. I used to think I'd like to live here (I live in Pennsylvania), but now I don't think I would. It has really really gone downhill. It's a shame.

Email from Slick Rick:

Dear Residents,

Halloween is another great tradition at Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village.

We're keeping an eye on the weather forecast and hoping that dusk will only bring Trick-or-Treaters and no rain.

As the safety of our children is of the utmost concern to us, we're asking residents to read below ensuring we have an enjoyable, yet safe, All Hallow's Eve.

For those who don't want to enter buildings, the following playgrounds will be staffed with StuyTown Property Services and Beam Living team members handing out candy:
All Oval Playgrounds (PGs 9/10/11/12)
All PCV Playgrounds (PGs 1/2/3)
Oval Spaces (Study/Kids/Cafe/Studio & Public Safety Command Center)
As for how the trick-or-treating works in the buildings:
Sign up sheets showing an apartment participating in Halloween will be placed next to the elevators on the M Level today.
Residents welcoming Trick-or-Treaters should write their apartment number on the sheet.
Residents participating are also encouraged to have a decoration on the outside of their door to assist the Trick-or-Treaters finding you.
Trick-or-Treaters should enter buildings on the M level to take a photo of the list of apartments participating.
To gain access to a building, Trick-or-Treaters should hit the Security button and Public Safety will grant access.
Trick-or-Treaters should take the elevator to the top participating floor.
Thereafter, it is encouraged to use the stairwells to access the floors of the participating apartments.
Public Safety will stop giving access to the buildings at 8pm.
Public Safety officers and our team will be throughout the property, keeping watch over the Trick-or-Treaters. Should you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask any of us.

We remind everyone to be Good Neighbors and to keep voices down when in and around the buildings.

Fingers crossed that the weather is conducive for yet another great Halloween.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Don't forget: E-mail Rick!

This is an absolute safety hazard. Basically this email is stating that you can buzz the security intercom and gain access to any building. How in the hell is this being allowed? If you do not have an escort into a specific building, access should not be granted!! How in the hell will security know who is behind the costumes?

With all the recent crime here, this is Ricks dumbest idea to date. If anyone is a victim of a crime on Halloween, make sure you include Hayduk personally on your lawsuit.

Anonymous said...

That e-mail is an open invitation for anyone to come in, their usual policy. Shows a lack of regard for safety. Of course the two cheerleaders on the TA site, think it is great.

Anonymous said...

About Halloween: If PS is going to buzz in trick/treaters (and trick turners?) in every building, how are they going to manage that? We have a handful of rent-a-cops and a few working cameras that nobody watches. Keep your doors locked and stay inside if you plan to stay home on the evening of October 31. This place has become a sick joke.

Anonymous said...

That email is a fireable offense at pretty much any job, but here it’s praised by Rick’s minions. How can anyone be so stupid as to put in writing that all someone has to do is ring an intercom and you will be granted access to an entire building where hundreds of people (victims) live?

Rick - you’ve outdone yourself this time, and your job will not be safe if something happens to anyone in these buildings on Halloween. Your email has already hit this blog and Facebook, so plenty of opportunistic criminals may already be planning their now easy targets.

Is there anyone at Beam Living that has even a portion of a brain? Sorry, stupid question, obviously not.

The "Manager" of this place is an idiot. An absolute fucking idiot. He is also very, very callous. He absolutely doesn't give a damn about tenant safety and he is contemptuous of anybody who questions that. In fact, he treats us all with contempt. Contempt is what lies behind that smarmy smile. When somebody gets seriously injured or murdered as the result of his "Come One Come All" resort director mentality, it will be on his head. Wherever he goes after this gig, his reputation as a callous, uncaring POS will follow him. What kind of a Manager of a huge residential property operates with such indifference to safety of the rent-paying tenants? SMFH.

Anonymous said...

In advance: apologies for the annoying all-uppercase-words:

About Halloween:

THE INVITATION (to strangers, young and old) TO ENTER THE BUILDINGS FOR HOURS ON HALLOWEEN, WHICH HAS BEEN THE PRACTICE FOR SOME TIME NOW:

DESIGNED=DELIBERATE=THOUGHT-OUT (or utter morons perpetrating this, and I highly doubt it).

WHY?

DANGER. DISTURBANCE. NOISE. ALL KINDS OF TROUBLE, CHAOS. POSSIBLE "INCIDENTS" (read: possible DANGER again) and so on.

HURTING US IN SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS IS RIGHT UP THERE. WE'VE HAD STRANGERS IN OUR BUILDINGS, HALLWAYS, EVEN APARTMENTS FOR YEARS. THE PATHWAYS, AND BENCHES AND OTHER LOCATIONS ARE INCREASINGLY ENTERED BY STRANGERS (POSSIBLY DANGEROUS).

THIS IS DELIBERATE. AND NO, IT AIN'T, "WELL, THIS IS NEW YORK CITY." THIS IS BLACKSTONE.

Anonymous said...

Rick the Dick.
What an idiot!

Anonymous said...

7:42 PM, you said it perfectly. It is absolutely mind-blowing that this idiot of a "manager" is extending an invite to any and all people who want to come into the buildings to go ringing doorbells and ask for whatever. Many of the people who have been doing this nonsense in recent years are teenagers (and even older) and they are not residents of the buildings or even the property.
The entire area is getting more and more dangerous. Just glance at T&V (which only prints a small portion of what goes on around here) and read about the assaults, most committed by teenagers who are out looking for an easy mark. We have junkies hanging out in front of Associated, harassing people; we have junkies and panhandlers on every street corner and more and more of these people are coming onto the Stuyvesant Town property. I don't know if it is the same in PCV. I just know that it is getting very bad around ST. So now this first class idiot of a "manager" is putting out the word that all they have to do is buzz PS. Actually, PS opens the doors to anybody and everybody if you push that buzzer!

Why not just leave the doors pinned open, the way they are for several hours every day for several days at the beginning and end of each month (churn time). I am so sick of the way this psycho endangers our safety and turns our homes into prey because of his lame-brained "good neighbor" mentality! I don't think the guy is right in the head, I really don't. I know he's from Flyover Country and no doubt thinks he's being folksy, but this really is the last nail in the coffin. Maybe we should get up a petition and ask Blackstone to remove him. He is endangering us and endangering us in the one place where we should have (and every right to) be safe and secure OUR HOMES!!!!
I wish I knew somebody who works for the press because I'd ask them to write a story about what we are enduring at the hands of this idiot and, of course, his sleazy organization, Beam Living. We will be dying at the hands of Beam Living unless something is done.

We were a lot safer when we had metal keys and no buzzer connected to "Public Safety" which should be renamed "Public Menace" at this point.

Anonymous said...

MetLife used to try to make tenants safe in their homes, which is what every good landlord does. Blackstone tries (and succeeds) to make living here dangerous. BS doesn't give a hoot about tenant safety and it is no wonder it is probably one of the most hated landlords on the planet! We don't have doormen so we depend on the security of locked doors that lead to outside. Those doors and our apartment doors are our only barrier between our HOMES and the street! Now, this colossal MORON who thinks he's running a fucking resort, is giving the green light to strangers to come in and roam around the buildings and ring our doorbells. Some of the people who have come around in the last couple of years for the trick/treat nonsense have been extremely persistent in knocking the doors and ringing the doorbell and shouting "we know you're in there" in quite a menacing way. I have mace and pepper spray and would not hesitate to use it if anyone accosted me and got in my face, but we have a lot of elderly people living here who are no doubt terrified by having these assholes roaming the buildings and pounding on their doors. The CEO said something about a sign-up sheet on M Level, but we all know that that is a pathetic farce because the assholes who maraud through the buildings on Halloween are NOT going to take the slightest bit of notice of the sign-up sheet, even if they are aware of it.
Just when you think this so-called management has outdone itself for stupidity, they surprise you. I hope that tenants will offer to sit with elderly neighbors who may be afraid. This is not the fun event that it used to be when only the children who lived in the building came around with their parents. Then it was a pleasure to hand out candies. Now it is something to dread.

Anonymous said...

Of course this Halloween policy is reckless and stupid. The fact of the matter is that Blackstone , which Slick Rick represents, does not care. I see the sketchiest Airbnbers exiting my building each day. That bench in front of Associated is full of homeless. They do not know who is living here or coming in here. Leases mean nothing here. This Halloween policy which Rick’s bosses endorse just is a continuation of the destruction of this property into a dangerous, dirty slum.

Anonymous said...

Blackstone will not remove him. Get this into your heads. He represents Blackstone. He has been here five years because they want him here. Stop thinking that you can get a new manager who will turn thing around. THIS IS THE WAY BLACKSTONE WANTS IT, slick Rick or no slick Rick.

Anonymous said...

I agree with 11:31 PM. I am afraid of opening the door to those older kids in case they try to barge in. I don't have mace or pepper spray though! That stuff can be turned against you. I just ignore the ding dong and shouting and keep the door securely locked. I wish I knew how to turn the bell off (I turn my intercom off all the time), but they bang on the door anyway. Not my favorite night of the year! Then we have Santacon to look forward to! Oy!

The sign-up sheet on the M-Level of my building has not even one apartment circles. Either people didn't see the email from the Chief Goblin or nobody wants pests ringing their doorbells asking for candy. The fact that they have removed the directories from the lobbies shows that they acknowledge that this is a transient dorm/airbnb residence and no longer a regular residential apartment complex. Yet the Chief Goblin thinks we will be happy to have the Halloween crowd buzzed-in by so-called "Public Safety" (all half dozen of them) and come ringing our doorbells. Is this constructive eviction of the real tenants who call this place "home," rather than dorm/hostel/hotel? I know we are now in the minority, but it is still our home and we are not going anywhere. In fact, the more they do to harass us, the more some of us will dig in. A big middle finger to Rick the Dick.

I've never had any issues with Halloween here and I don't mind giving out candy to these poor kids who just want a holiday for goodness sake. the level of grumpiness in here is getting out of control.

on the other hand, I would like a word with the f@#%ing imbecile who asked for that f@$#ing bench to be placed outside of Associated. What an incredibly stupid idea.

Anonymous said...

That chief goblin stuff made me sick. They ruined Halloween here. Now nobody wants to answer their door if security lets anyone in. Does he think that is cute? No, it is not. Broadcasting that security will ring anyone in is ridiculous and negligent.

Anonymous said...

As is the case with almost all of Hayduk's brain farts, nobody took the slightest bit of notice of his suggestions/rules (all of his "rules" are really just suggestions) and nobody indicated that they wanted to be trick or treated. However, that didn't stop hoards of kids running through the building and ringing bells. I wonder if anybody's Amazon packages left outside their door survived the onslaught? They are still coming through although it is after 8 pm. Of course, that sets off the dogs who are living here.

I just checked and see that a large Amazon box has gone from outside my neighbor's door. I don't think my neighbors have come home yet.

Thank you Rick, you pathetic poor apology for a manager. Under your "management" our quality of life has gone down the toilet and we are much less safe. Maybe you are implementing Blackstone's sick policies, but don't you have a conscience? A bit of common sense? You certainly have no managerial skills when it comes to managing a huge residential property in New York City. Go back to where you came from.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

My Halloween at my door was more quiet than I remember. Each year it gets more and more quiet on my floor.

Had not anticipated getting home as early as I did, but did not answer door due to the fact that they put out that stupid policy of letting anyone in. Very quiet, bell only rang maybe seven times. Sounded like all older kids who I did notice congregating by the playgrounds. As for that bench in front of Associated, it is a horror show. Not sure why homeless are allowed to stay there. As for the statement about grumpiness, I never minded a few kids from outside coming in but when you stupidly broadcast that security will open up for anyone, you are inviting trouble. I will never answer my door as long as they broadcast that policy. And I did notice a lot of teenagers from outside on the property last night trick or treating. And of course no PS around.

Anonymous said...

I agree, I love Halloween and seeing the kids happy. There has always been kids running rampant through this place on Halloween, so this is nothing new to Blackstone/Rick. What is new and dangerous is the publication that any and all buildings are free game for people to get let in by public safety. If you do not know someone who lives in a building and they aren’t willing to escort you, you should not be allowed in the building.

But complaining about kids having fun and possibly going so far as to blaming them for stealing Amazon packages is just pathetic.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

No problem with kids at Halloween. I took my then-young one trick or treating, too. That said, I have noticed older kids, like almost adult teenagers, running and screaming through the ST halls. Not this year, personally, but other Halloweens. That I don't like. But a kid, fine.

We have a right to be grump Ms/Mr Prig. Manager gives the go-ahead for any and all trick/treaters to be buzzed into our buildings; puts sign-up sheet where nobody will see it (so nobody uses it); doesn't who and from where and what ages the trick/treaters are and whether or not they be accompanied by an adult. Yes, we have a right to be grumpy.

Our Public Safety crew consists of a few rent-a-cops. How can they buzz-in every building; patrol the grounds, and be available if anybody needs them for an emergency. I heard there was a serious apartment fire on 20th Street in Stuyvesant Town. No doubt all half-dozen rent-a-cops were deployed there. This while the Halloween crap was in full swing.

Rick, you are a liar and a fraud. Keep your smarmy mouth shut or GO AWAY!

Anonymous said...

You bet we have a right to be grumpy 5:42. I never headed of any landlord being so callous and stupid as to buzz everyone in. Halloween is controlled strictly in all other buildings in the city. Publicizing that you are having security buzz anyone in is moronic. Not that it matters, what we have living here and passing through this dorm dump is not safe. They have no idea who is on leases here and actually resides here anymore.

Anonymous said...

11:59 and 2:24

You have every right to be UPSET with management for allowing anyone and everyone to buzz into the buildings. But being grumpy about the act of kids trick or treating and acting like kids is completely misplaced emotions. Put that emotion back towards management, not the kids who are enjoying the same holiday that kids for generations have enjoyed.

My building had a fairly large number of trick or treaters, and although they were loud at times (enjoying Halloween!), they all seemed to be following the rules that Management posted. So again, don’t be upset with the kids doing what they were told they could do.

I remember when I was a kid here, and my kids were kids here, we knocked on every door and 90% of the doors opened up, and you knew all of those people. The other 10% were the ones you knew weren’t going to answer. That was a true community, a community with people who didn’t care about the noise associated with Halloween, because everyone knew everyone else.

Things that people are complaining about from yesterday were put in place to try and instill a sense of community, whereas for a long time this was a natural community. We didn’t need all these rules and regulations to know what we could and could not do because everyone knew what was expected of them as members of this community.

So take your misguided emotions regarding kids being kids and turn it in it’s rightful direction, towards management.

2:22 PM, you are totally correct. They don't know or care who is living here. That is why they have removed the directory boards from the lobbies. So long as the rent is paid they absolutely DO NOT CARE who is living here. There's no way they could keep track of all the transients and students even if they wanted to (which they don't). That's why it was totally inexcusable of that moron who calls himself the Manager, to keep the go-ahead for anybody and everybody to be buzzed last night to trick or treat.

If anybody gets hurt because of his reckless policies I hope he goes to jail. He should not be in the residential housing industry at all. He belongs in the cruise ship/camp industry. They scraped the barrel when they hired him. Just walk around the property and see how filthy and nasty it is in many parts. Look at the filthy, uncovered mattresses and other junk. The man is an absolute disgrace.

Just received my copy of that rag T&V with Slick Rick on the front page giving 100 year old residents keys to the ST dump. Better he should be giving them heat. Wonder if that is an amenity for centenarians. Had heat before 9 while in bed. Shut off remainder of day and we need it now. Bastards. I also read how he found that trendy restaurant to go on the 20th St corner. It seems like a glorified pizza place designed to appeal to the dorm and roomie demo. Only four entries on the menu. Big perk a vegetable garden. Who is Hayduk kidding. He leased to the highest bidder . Greedy. Many of us would have liked an all American restaurant with a wide menu like The Smith , a good diner, or Jewish Deli. I can get excellent Italian at Franks or Sal Anthony.

4:54., many of us do usually answer the door and enjoy Halloween but after an announcement for people to just press the buzzer to come in and no PS around many of us leaned toward caution and did not answer the door. There was no attempt to instill a sense of community. I do not know any permanent resident kids in my building anymore. And as for kids from outside, they are largely older teens, not children coming in. In the last few years 8 out of 10 trick or treaters here were over 14. Don’t get your point. Our emotions are not misguided . They are guided toward management for issuing a public announcement inviting anyone to come in here. Halloween is a community holiday and I saw many of my friends on Facebook had community parties and costume events in their buildings and neighborhoods.THIS IS NO LONGER A COMMUNITY. If you want to make rules for the community, then stick to the few children that are left in the community and organize an inter building exchange. Sorry, FYI kids over 13 should’ve attending parties , not going house to house. You are the misguided one.

Just read that new public safety policy Hayduk sent out. What a piece of work. We have to call public safety if we cannot breathe because of pot smoke or cannot sleep due to noise. What the hell is residence services going to do at midnight. Where was PS last night when he let in the whole lower east side by buzzing. Why weren’t officers used for Halloween control? Now they will just sit in the control office idling. If he wants to use them for security, put them out on the beat. This is a property without rules or enforcement, full of transients and homeless entering. This PS force is never walking around. This is absurd.Blaming residents for dominating the time of officers and keeping them from their jobs.

Why do all other privately owned buildings get heat all day long on a chilly day such as today. I am sick of Blackstone’s thermometer watching and games. It is cold out and cold in my apartment. Put the heat on now, not at 7AM. They disgust me. Will be happy to spend Sunday at work in my well(over) heated residential building office.

Don't these ruthless, money-hungry predators know that you can't destroy a community with your greed and unbridled avarice and then expect the survivors and those who replaced those who didn't survive the egregious rent increases to suddenly be "kumbaya" together?

What is that latest e-blast from Hayduk all about? I don't know what he is talking about. He poses with his half-dozen rent-a-cops and is blathering on about not calling PS for some reason or another. What's his point?

This dude is out of his depth. Total moron.

Looks like they have this heat game to a science. An hour or two before dawn and an hour or two in the evening. Then off it goes. In this chilly weather it works somewhat but you still are cold for a few hours even though your thermometer says 70. As it gets colder it gets worse and worse with these little puffs of heat doing nothing. Shameful, disgusting, blood sucking landlords. Everywhere else you go the heat is always on. They figured out this evil system to cover their asses legally.

So we only have 6 PS officers? Unbelievable! No wonder RS has to take on some of their duties. Leave it to Rick the Dick to always endeavor to save money for Blacksoul and make living here more hazardous for us. I can't believe anyone would want to live here and pay major dollars for this kind of treatment. Doesn't this constitute a reduction or diminution of service?

The place is now crawling with students. They were out in force in the early hours of this morning, woo-hooing and screeching. There was a time when Security would come out and shut them up, but we don't have Security anymore. We have a bunch of mall cops (not their fault - it's a living) and no NYPD presence (although we pay taxes like all New Yorkers do (except the President). I guess lives are not worth much to Blacksoul and Rick the Dick.

OMG! This place gets worse and worse and worse. TS and CWC were both better than this vile owner and the cretinous "manager" who just makes everything worse and worse and worse!

The folks who live in NYCHA housing are certainly no worse off and probably better off than we are. Have nothing against the folk who live in NYCHA, but they don't pay the major bucks we pay to live in this vile slum/dorm.

I can't believe they hired someone as inept and incapable as Hayduk to do the job of managing this complex. He hasn't got a clue about residential apartment management. He probably was ok as a cruise director or whatever his former life was, but to be working here? No. He is not the right man for the job.

If Blackstone wants to turn this into a dorm, they should have the usual dorm requirements in place, e.g., someone to keep an eye on these kids and make sure they obey the rules of living in a residential complex. These awful kids have no idea of how to behave in a residential complex and we have to put up with their immature, assholish behavior.

I am a long-time tenant and have no intention of moving, but I cannot for the life of me understand why people move in here, paying huge rents to live in such a nasty dorm/slum. They just have to be uninformed and duped by the sleazeballs in "Leasing."

Did anyone read the post on the TA facebook about somebody trying to forcibly enter an apartment yesterday? The lady went to the cops and also reported it to PS and was just blown off. Im not disagreeing with what you say about the buzzing in of anyone and everyone. Once you start going in to how kids should be celebrating is where I disagree with you. You are not the voice for all in terms of how Halloween should be celebrated.

You are one of a number of people who come on here as keyboard warriors and talk about how much this place sucks, and how people should be living to fit in your ideals, and it’s getting old. You’ve been doing the same thing for years with no improvement of life, so you really need to start asking yourself if others are the ones who are misguided, or if it’s really just you.

Just a thought. I live in 300 and personally have never had a problem getting enough heat during the winter months. As far as I can tell, and I am by no means an engineer, my building is a "standalone," i.e., not physically connected to any other building in the manner that 272, 274, 276 and 278 are connected. Could such a configuration have anything to do with the sporadic and uneven distribution of heat that seems to happen to these 72-years old apartments?

A PS officer has never "escorted" the person and his dog out of the property. Never. When I see the rules being enforced, I will report it. Otherwise, BS.

I think Blackstone has thus far inflicted a terrible amount of stress on us tenants and through no fault of our own. If some of us get so angry and frustrated as to wish the demise of whomever is the cause of our distress (and I'm not talking about anybody who is actually working or living here), it is understandable, but inappropriate. Blackstone will continue to profit from inflicting pain, suffering and total misery whether it is buying up properties and mistreating tenants, or being one of the major profiteers from the destruction of the Amazon Rain Forest. Profound Evil has always plagued the planet and always will. It's just unfortunate that it continues and has infected our lives. I think we have to fight against this Evil Vermin destroying our spirits and souls as it seeks to destroy our lives.

I am considering withholding rent since they are withholding or severely rationing heat.

I've known people who were served with eviction notices here in NYC, and went to housing court. Not a delightful experience, but not the worst thing either, and people aren't tossed into the streets so quickly despite the terror damaged human creatures attempt to inflict upon each other.

They are using fear and psychological methods increasingly now, as much as physical privation and its sometimes resultant physical illness.

Likely, given the thoroughgoing and normal everyday corruption in this city's politics, the judge'll order me, you, anyone, everyone, to pay these parasites. Maybe not. Either way, we'll be able to be a bit more in control of our lives, feel less oppressed by sick, ugly, bullying s.o.b.'s.

It just might be time to STAND UP AND FIGHT.

They are stepping up their game here. And their game is destruction and hurting us real, real bad on the way.

Have you noticed their signs telling New York BUILDING INSPECTORS how to get into the buildings. Never saw this sh*t before. I figured it was a deal with the City about the heating hell these bastards are continuing and worsening. Maybe.

A fellow resident thinks this is the beginning of the "inspections" leading toward the condemnation of the entire complex so they can finally throw us all the hell out "legally," which is where some of us knew they were headed during their sickening press conference in 2015 on the 1st Avenue Loop to announce deblasio's great triumph of selling us out to these terrible, terrible people.

I hope this new "Plan" means that Public Safety officers will no longer be used as gophers to take boxes that have been delivered to the wrong address over to wherever they should have been delivered to. My lobby is full of boxes delivered by USPS that belong in different buildings. I think the Postal Service employs people who don't read well or have very bad eyesight. We never used to have such a plethora of fuck-ups in the past. Though, to be honest, you usually got a pink slip in your mailbox and had to go wait on line to bail our your delivery at the Post Office.
Amazon is even worse. Their Lazyship delivery people just chuck the stuff anywhere. I don't think they even bother to read the address. Anywhere in the Sty will do as far as they are concerned. FedEx isn't much better. UPS is the only one that mostly gets it right.
Anyway, it shouldn't be Public Safety's job to go pick up and deliver stuff, though it does have the advantage of getting them out of their HQ and into the buildings once in a while.

The homeless at that bench can be ordered to move if they harass people. Otherwise, they have a right to be there. In the old days most of these homeless were called "bums," and as long as I have been in the city, there were always homeless/bums/mentally handicaped.

As for whose responsibity that is, it depends. Usually the upkeep of the front of the stores along 1st Avenue belongs to the store. I believe that's the deal with the city, and, in this case, Stuy Town. So it may well be that that bench is the responsibilty of Associated and, in turn, Stuy Town.

I wonder if Rick worked for Blackstone before he came here. I heard he used to manage resorts and luxury hotels (though I find that hard to believe). Maybe those places were/are owned by Blackstone? He also worked in Scandinavia, I believe.
Wherever he came from he certainly wasn't groomed to the job of a property manager where that property is a huge, sprawling, multi-unit residential apartment complex. He really does treat this place like he's running a hotel. Not a luxury hotel though, but a short-stay, hot-sheets dump and dorm. There are probably as many Airbnb people here on any given night than there are students. Certainly the Airbnb crowd and students outnumber actual tenants who call the place "home." No longer "Home-Sweet-Home" unfortunately.
I see they took down the list of tenants' names and apartment numbers. With such a churning impermanent population it must be impossible for Management to keep track. So they don't.

Anonymous said...

STR, the management of Associated has called the cops several times. They have gone out and told those people to move. The "bums" ignore them. They do harass people. They are asking for money all the time. One woman is so stoned at any given time, that she is semi-conscious; however, that doesn't stop her from asking passers-by and customers going in and out of Associated for money.

I believe Associated put the bench there for the benefit of customers, especially the elderly and handicapped who would rest while their aides went in and did the shopping. The bench has been totally appropriated by a group of filthy, aggressive drug addicts and they most certainly do bother pedestrians and customers of the store. They also leave a lot of filth around the street.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I've used that bench to get a better handle on the shopping bags from Associated. I don't use it, if I see it occupied by the homeless. (They can be homeless, but most have drug and alcohol problems and/or are mentally disturbed.) I'd like to see Powers get rid of them! As far as I know, he can't and his saying so is just BS. The only potential is a vagrancy charge. Good luck on that.

He has to be the laziest, greediest conman of a Mayor we've ever had. Maybe Jimmy Walker was slightly worse. He does nothing but fundraise for himself and his unelected Deputy Mayor wife. He is an absolute grifter and the sooner he's gone the better. The City has slid back to pre-Giuliani days. Giuliani is (and always has been) a vile little man, but he did actually WORK for his keep and enforced the law - not always fairly, but he and Bratton had a "broken windows" policy and enforced the QOL laws and that was a welcome first for New York. Now, pissing, begging, littering and harassing people in the street is a right, thanks to DeB.

The mother (yes, a mother) complained and complained about how her son (not small) was being treated. I heard threats from the mother about going to the police and demanding an apology. Her sense of entitlement was off the chart. I see this here, too, in Stuy Town. The sense of entitlement for some residents is also "off the chart." The police will/should laugh at her complaint.

On my way back, I discover where I have been voting in the past, 451 East 14th Street, is open for voting! WTF is going on here!?! I am grateful that I have no mobility issues but feel for people in walkers and wheelchairs since the new place is a bike and not easy to find. Our elected representatives need to address this sooner rather than later! Also, bench by Associated occupied by strung out people and the panhandlers are getting much more aggressive!

Officially notified that Blackstone/Beam Living/Stuytown, et al. CAN do nothing to supply heat to my apartment during the cold weather. "Can," I presume, since it was the word used, means "not able."

I further presume that "can" indicates that ANY and ALL of the personnel who work here, in Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, have been ORDERED, COMMANDED to withhold heat on pain of loss of jobs.

This fits in perfectly with the latest news about Public Safety (BS about PS), the placement of at least one bench INSIDE Stuyvesant Town (not far from the freakin' "ICE" - which is, again, perfect: ICE for the ICE you/we are going to have in our luxury apartments!) to encourage yet more drunks/druggers/homeless/mentally ill/criminals, violent and otherwise, to camp here.

Everyone reading this, and everyone who still looks upon this as their home, would be well advised to find their self-respect and courage and finally fight back - long, hard, and persistently. If not, it's gonna get soooooo much worse ...

Please note that the "creature" posted this at the Tenants FB page, not the TA FB page>

" but is indicating that she is ok with noisy musical instruments, etc., because noise is part of living in New York."

This was posted at the TA FB page. 2 other cheerleaders also had that opinion which was what the "creature" agreed to.

Besides being a cheerleader, the "creature" is also rather dim to say the least.

Saw this late day on my walk outside. Opposite my building, there was an uncovered mattress waiting to be thrown out. For sure, the porter or his helper put it there. I do notice these things, though by now I tend not to report them or take photos. Still happening, even though it is easy to have this covered, by law, in plastic. I guess Rick doesn't give a shit.

Also so many e-bikes and no PS stopping them. Again, BS to have PS stop these things.

Also saw for the first time on 1st Avenue, an ambulance that said "Asian American." I don't know if they pick up only Asians, but it seems so. And, yes, there is a Jewish ambulance. I see and hear (they are the loudest) all the time.

Sorry, me again, the "creature" posts, both of them, were at the TA FB page, none were at the Tenants FB page.

Although you saw the porter dump the mattress, many tenants moving out dump them too and Blackstone could not care less. They have a few actual dumping sites on each loop, encouraging it.

>>Although you saw the porter dump the mattress, many tenants moving out dump them too and Blackstone could not care less.<<

But we have those monitors that supposedly can see a tenant dumping a mattress. And we have many PS officers going by and seeing an uncovered mattress. They don't say anything. And the photo on the front page atop shows an uncovered mattress, plus garbage, and a PS vehicle not far away.

Ultimately it is a Stuy Town and not tenants issue, though ST would like to point the finger at tenants.

These slumlords refuse to give any heat when the temperatures are borderline. They know how to play the game , making sure your thermometer is around 68 or 69 which is legal but not comfortable. When the cold weather really sets in those bastards will probably continue to give the minimum.

"Besides being a cheerleader, the "creature" is also rather dim to say the least."

Why is somebody being referred to as "the creature?" Seems a bit unkind.

The entire neighborhood is becoming very slummy and scummy. With all the panhandlers crowded on each corner, the garbage and the closing businesses (Associated and DR as well as those along the Sty side of First Avenue), all the drunks and homeless hanging around the property, and the recent rise in crime, it is not a particularly nice place to live anymore. Add to that the fact that we get little to no heat in the winter, have cut-to-the-bone Public Safety and a dope of a "Manager" who is ok with strangers being buzzed in to roam the buildings on Hallowe'en (and any other time) I don't think it is a highly desirable place at all. I'm sure that if I were homeless I wouldn't feel this way about it, but I'm paying a fairly hefty rent and I would like to feel safe and comfortable for the money I pay. Add to that all the damned students who have ZERO consideration for anything and anybody around them, and I think I'd like to live with grown-ups in a well-run residential building/complex.

Maybe if they hired a better Manager or even got in a real Management Company to run the place, it would get better. Sadly, I don't see that happening. It would be nice if we had a tenants association that sided with tenants and didn't pander to Management! I was totally taken-aback last winter when they started offering tours of the heating plant instead of telling that lazy manager to get off his ass and do something about the non-functioning sensor system!

I've lived in several different apartment buildings and complexes in NYC and in LA, and not all of them were great, but none was as bad as this dump nor as expensive! I do know that the good ones were the ones with a competent and capable management system with a competent and capable Manager.

1:09 A.M.: It is indeed horrific here and worsening. And will get worse.

THAT IS THE PLAN. If you have not already read up a little on Blackstone Group, please do. As has been pointed out here more than once, they were among the first, if not the first, "equity"/money s.o.b.'s to swoop down and prey upon devastated homeowners when the housing bubble burst (beginning in Florida with single family homes).

They expanded from there, after evicting innocent people; creating unlivable, dangerous conditions; reneging on their fiduciary obligations; harassing innocent people; ignoring their own requirements to repair/remedy the properties they helped destroy and so on and so forth.

They are known, justly, around the Earth, for evicting and making homeless, and hurting people, in many countries other than the United States of America.

Last year, the United Nations singled them out in their condemnation of predators who are causing homelessness and suffering on a wide scale. A few months later, their (MAJOR) role in the burning of the Amazon jungle fires which devastated so much of that land, and took so many lives, was published fairly widely.

Stephen Schwarzman, the owner of Blackstone, has been identified as a psychopath by more than one person. That list includes at least one person who also is in "real estate," a "profession" which has more than secured its place in the realm of sociopathy by virtue of its casual, everyday infliction of misery upon people. It was revelatory to read a fellow real estate worker describe Schwarzman in those terms.

More than one of us has understood that, just as in any organization of its kind, Blackstone will kick to the curb any underling who says "no" to orders from those sick, controlling horror shows who hire them. Translation: if Rick does NOT make sure heat is turned off; if he does not decimate and neuter Public Safety; if Rick has not been making damn sure NYU assholes and arrogant, moronic, nasty "parents" (his beloved "Moms" here) infest this place; if Mr. Hayduk does not direct the DESTRUCTION of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village: then he will be sacked, fired, let go . . . "terminated" in the current jargon. This is no defense of his actions, just an explanation. Were he to do what is right and suffer discharge from his position, some other person would take his place.

This particular poster that is being discussed is unkind. On the TA website she is argumentative and dismissive of anyone who goes against management in any way. That is why it is pleasant irony to see her affected by the crime in this dump.(stealing packages).

Anonymous said...

1:09, all you say above is so true. This morning it is 45 degrees and my pipes are cold. They must have put on a puff of heat during the night to boost the thermometer to 70. As the day goes on more heat is lost but the temperature will still be legal at 68 or 69 while the apartment is uncomfortable. They have this evil heat game down to a science.

Creature is the avator somebody else used for that poster to protect the ID. So I ran with it.

"Seems a bit unkind."

No, that person is. The poster is one of the 2 main cheerleaders (there are others) at the TA Face page who see a "full cup" with Blackstone all the time and are not shy in throwing shade out to people who have real and sometimes heartbreaking issues with Blackstone. Case in the point the lack of heat issue. The other one is especially vile. See the other posts on this at this thread.

We need the DNA of William Potter.

From a 1984 NY times article:

"Metropolitan Life maintains a strong presence in Stuyvesant Town through its resident manager, William Potter. For the past 10 years he has managed the staff of 600 maintenance, security, recreation and landscaping personnel. Tenants give his troops high marks. Maintenance men are on call 24 hours a day, and debris is rarely seen on the lawns."

Sigh.

Yes, that horrific TA stunt of offering tours of the heating plant was appalling. And tenants actually went. The TA is despicable. I am watching my thermometer carefully. 69 now and dropping. If it goes below 68 I am calling the Board of Health which is also a waste. These weasels will likely put up a puff of heat before it goes below 68 to cover their asses.

Would one of those Witches be the woman who always, always, always has to have the last word? Is argumentative, smarmy and dismissive? Because the Witches don't criticize Management and/or the TA, Peter Stuyvesant tolerates them. Welcomes them!

I am rather surprised that Edmund Dunn and Adam Rose are still allowed to post there, especially Adam Rose. Those two really speak truth to power. It's a wonder that Rick hasn't ordered the TA to banish them!

I am so dismayed that Associated is closing. I rely on that store so much because I am disabled and can't walk too far, especially with heavy bags. D'Agostinos is ridiculously overpriced, as well as being too far to walk when I have heavy stuff to carry. The few people still working at Associated don't know exactly when they will be out of a job and as most of them are part-timers because they work two or three jobs to make ends meet, they are facing a dismal Holiday Season. At least they are not blasting that fucking obnoxious "Holiday" muzak and I don't blame them!

I don't know if all the online ordering has done Associated in. I tend not to believe that. I think the rent increases and the loss of foot traffic because of that damned L train work on 14th have done them in.

When it comes to ordering food and groceries online, I don't know why people think it is so great. There is a Blue Apron Box in the lobby of my building that has been there for days. It is in the wrong building, of course. And NO, I am not going to call our cut-to-the-bone Public Safety and ask them to pick it up and deliver it. I will never do that again. Maybe if enough people complain, these online companies will start to employ people who can actually read to deliver their shit.

Try insisting upon the provision of heat which is necessary for the preservation of life and limb, guaranteed by your contract/lease, AND FOR WHICH THEY ARE TAKING MONEY FROM YOU EVERY MONTH.

Zero to do with thermometers, invading "engineers," "protocols," the "steps you need to take to prove you are cold" (they insist that you merely BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE COLD).

You are paying them and it is their duty, fiduciary and otherwise, to PROVIDE HEAT, period.

Do NOT play in their court, and let them befuddle and confuse you and turn the tables. Their heat "protocol" (try thinking about that word) is carefully constructed bullshit designed to hurt you and injury you quite badly. And designed to make you think you are crazy, too demanding, unreasonable.

IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE HEAT. PERIOD. So simply insist that you must be given (sufficient) heat without going into the weeds with them about "protocols." Do not argue, concede, even acknowledge the truly evil crap they concocted. I was told they would deny us heat by someone who works here two years ago. WHICH THEY DID. One of the "biggest" "bosses" here let me know clearly 3 or 4 months ago that they were going to deny us even more heat this winter. WHICH THEY ARE DOING.

I completely understand that the closing of Associated will cause great inconvenience to many people. I myself like having a store so close. That being said, the owners and managers had a monopoly for years and did nothing to clean up the store and make it customer friendly. It is important to have a grocery in that spot, just not that crummy one. I believe that they are closing because of high rents imposed by Blackstone.

Anonymous said...

That is ridiculous. We are entitled to heat.

Anonymous said...

"Three lovely droppings of dog shit in the elevator this morning."

There's a camera in every elevator, so PS should be able to identify the culprit - the owner, not the dog.

Hound (no pun intended) Rick about that and tell him you will notify the Health Department. So sick of the vile lowlifes who live in this dump now.

"i dare not make a peep my rent is less than $1500 i put up with cold pipes and bad hallways"

Bullshit! You have every right to complain about cold pipes and bad hallways even if your rent is less than $1,500! The rents in the renovated apartments are so high because the landlord has been gouging people for several years. Now they can't do that which is why we are seeing all the cutbacks. Your attitude is indicative of how much the long time tenants have been intimidated and shamed into feeling that they are moochers and freeloaders and not paying their fair share. That is absolute crap. MetLife ran this place at a profit and managed to keep rents reasonable and the property clean and safe. I don't think Blackstone is hurting and if they paid too much for the place, that's their problem. We have all been royally fucked by the greedy vermin who have been tormenting us for almost 20 years. We can thank Pataki and his crew of vermin for that.

It is going to be in the 30s by tomorrow morning. If these evil bastards don't give us heat, I am going to email and text and tweet to EVERY newspaper and news outlet in the City. I will keep on and on until I get somebody to listen and take notice. I am sick of being at the mercy of this avaricious scum and the totally immoral jerk of a "manager." So what if he takes his orders from HQ? Let him show a speck of decency for a change instead of being a nasty little yes man.

Rick is the type they used to hire to run institutions for the disabled. "Let em freeze. They don't know any better. Tell them they're not cold."

Anonymous said...

Had to laugh at a comment in response to lack of heat. The poster said we could complain to the management number. Like that is really going to help. I wish these people who get heat would stop talking about being hot. All the more reason for the evil bastards to deprive the rest of us.

So many long term tenants here say nothing which it one of the reasons why we are in the sh****r.

I think that this big Veteran monument and celebrations is a diversion and publicity ploy by Slick Rick and Blackstone. This property which was built for veterans is no longer favorable to those generations. For goodness sakes, the elderly here don’t get enough heat. The place is a dirty dorm dump, unsafe to boot. All of these ceremonies cannot hide your evil spirit Hayduk . It is all window dressing to cover your dirty work.

Thanks for reminding me. This early afternoon, I was passing the Veterans Monument and workers were cutting off branches of healthy still-standing trees so that a "perfect" view would be possible. Yes, cutting off branches.

@6:32 PM: You are so absolutely right. I know several elderly people here (in their 70s and 80s) who are very cold in their apartments, but they feel afraid to say anything because they are made to feel they should be grateful for not being booted out because of the low rents they pay. Those low rents, btw, may be a big big chunk of their Social Security check, notwithstanding SCRIE. For a long time now, the elderly and all of the tenants who were pre-TS, et al., have been made to feel like second class citizens and it's about time for that to stop. They are not ones who mess up the recycling areas, steal the laundry carts, blast music at midnight, piss, shit and leave condoms in the stairwells and come home at 3 or 4 am screeching and hooting their heads off. They are also not the ones who have revolving door roommates and they are not the ones who stink up the halls with the stench of pot.

I've only been here for a few years, but I am a very observant person and, as I work at home, I see a lot of what goes on in this place and am very well aware of which demo it is that causes all the wear and tear and filth and squalor that we experience here in ever-increasing levels.

I don't know where they got the current Manager from, but I do know that he is not at all suitable for the job. He panders to one demo and totally flips the bird to the other.

"This early afternoon, I was passing the Veterans Monument and workers were cutting off branches of healthy still-standing trees so that a "perfect" view would be possible. Yes, cutting off branches."

That is absolutely disgusting, but not surprising considering that the head honcho of Blackstone is actively destroying the Amazon Rain Forest for the sake of the almighty dollar. He won't live long enough to choke on the results of climate change or spend his fucking money because he is already quite "up there" in age. The planet and the future generations don't matter to him just so long as he gets more and more money in his coffers. Must be some kind of mental illness that strikes his kind. I wonder if he has grandchildren and/or great grandchildren? Whatever they inherit from him should cover the costs of oxygen tanks and "iron lungs" because those will be the iShit of the future.

The Middle Ages had the plagues; we have the Schartzmans of this world.

I wonder why Town & Village has never written anything about the lack of heat we are enduring under this regime? They write about all the stupid shit that goes on here, but nothing about the horrible quality of life we have to put with, e.g., lack of heat, noise, squalor of shit and piss in elevators and stairs and the horrendous recycling bins that the porters have to deal with. I don't recycle anymore (except glass) because I think the porters have enough to do and I doubt it gets sorted and sent to the recycling centers. Recycling centers won't accept dirty and mixed up "recycling." .
