Another Fine Mess

Can you imagine this uncovered mattress wet? Yes, a little bit of rain adds to another fine mess. Photos taken this Wednesday. The mattress has been there for hours.

The garbage dumping is a slippery slope, and I’m not sure I’ve read any real viable options.

1) You can’t allow people to their their bulk junk away in the building. Along with the health hazards it could pose, the amount that people throw out would easily be a major fire hazard. So tossing this stuff in building = not an option.

2) Sheds are a decent idea in theory, but would also be an eyesore. It would also attract rodents with potential lingering smells, and even possibly some homeless people. Not an option.

Unfortunately with the high turnover demographic living here, this will not get any better unless a true viable option is given. Maybe they just need to hire a few more people, who would walk the property at all hours of the day and night, and call in to the truck immediately when a bulk trash pick-up needs to take place. The goal should be to have the stuff picked up within 20 mins of the tenant leaving it curbside.

Anonymous said...

This is so disgusting. It is unbelievable that Slick Rick and his team allow this and even encourage it by putting up those signs. This is the fault of management. If tenants are told that they can do this, then the slobby ones will. This property is officially a filthy slum. I don’t care what they say, we never had this before Blackstone took over.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Timely pick up of trash and furniture, but discarded mattresses must be covered in plastic, no matter the time. It's the law.

Anonymous said...

I disagree with you. There are viable options. A shed is not any more an eyesore than that filth out there. We used to have only one disposal site away from the buildings near Avenue B. Now they dump all over. Warnings can be delivered and fines threatened.

Anonymous said...

It lies out there sometimes for five or six hours. Other developments do not look like this. A few central areas would help solve the problem. The pick up trucks would only have to worry about two or three sites. The pigs would just have to take their crap to those central sites or risk a fine.

Anonymous said...

Thus Blackstone should be fined a thousand times over for these uncovered mattresses. Maybe if they stopped renting to students and Airbnb transients, this would be alleviated.

Anonymous said...

If you think that any city agency is going to come on the private property of a real estate powerhouse who in part controls the city, and fine said landlord, you have another thing coming.

Anonymous said...

It is going to take more than mattress litter and tree complaints to get any results for tenants and tenant rights. They trample all over everything destroying anything in their path everywhere they go. At some point tenants have to step up efforts far beyond strewn mattresses and a tree or throw in the towel.

Blackstone is doing what it is infamous for all over the planet. It is notorious for bringing properties down to the lowest standards of quality of life and reaping a fortune out of misery.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Walking by one of the loops, I saw two mattresses. One was uncovered, but the other one was covered in plastic! I don't know who did this, but the covering was simple. That's all that is needed to be done.

Anonymous said...

Whether covered or not the mattresses look atrocious along with the other loop trash especially being that they are not picked up in a timely manner. I occasionally see this in other parts of the city, but not to the extent that it is seen here, often in massive piles.

The deliberate abuse, harassment, illegal behaviors and downright cruelty are increasing daily.

Security heard and saw a herd of noisy college students congregating on the sidewalk between two buildings a few nights back. They saw them on camera, and heard them. The noise and disruption went on for quite some time. During the initial conversation with Security, they promised to stop the noise and disperse the congregation of disruptive overgrown children. During the second call, when the idiots were still standing there making noise, Security asserted that they were doing nothing wrong, and had a "right" to stand there making noise at night.

Management is lying more than ever. Maybe worse: they have considerably expanded their bullying. It is possible that the new rent laws have prompted an escalation of damaging and ugly behavior by blackheart. They are more vigorously and brazenly threatening tenants who complain about their harassment, declaring that they will begin "legal" action against a tenant who objects to their willfully, deliberately, repeatedly harming them. If a tenant objects to actions which nullify their guaranteed ability to enjoy their home; if a tenant objects to blackheart imposing physically dangerous conditions upon them, then the "landlord" will seek to further and more seriously harm them. This is nothing new, but it is worsening.

Many books of the true crime genre describe psychopaths seizing and imprisoning their intended victims and then physically torturing them. If the victim cries, pleads for the torment to end, or screams, the psychopath becomes angry that the victim dared to insult or annoy him. Feeling aggrieved, they proceed to torture the victim much more viciously.

"I can do harm to you. If you complain, I will get angry and hurt you a good deal more."

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>They are more vigorously and brazenly threatening tenants who complain about their harassment, declaring that they will begin "legal" action against a tenant who objects to their willfully, deliberately, repeatedly harming them. I don't see or experience that at all. The legal staff know who I am, and I've done nothing wrong, so nothing has happened to me. That is why I take photos. Photos, unless they are manipulated, tend to tell the truth. There are ways of doing something, and there is the wrong way. I believe legal will focus on "the wrong way" if one goes about anything wrong.

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately the photos do not influence any change in management ‘s degradation of the property. I too posted photos before and management could care less. Maybe if the photos went out to media, things would be different. I guess that no one wants to take that step and risk the harassment that the above poster is going through. The photos mean nothing to them. I fear they might take a different attitude if media publicity burst their evil bubble of PR. Frankly I was very disappointed when they were not cited in The NY Times photo montage of city move out trash. Being one of if not the biggest culprit they definitely needed to be called out. Your way and my way might be right but certainly not effective.

Anonymous said...

I don’t quite follow your drift, STR. Are you saying that Management punishes complainers who are justified in their complaints or that Management is open to justified complaints?
I think that Management doesn’t like tenants who complain even if they are entitled to complain. We are supposed to suffer in silence.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

No, Management doesn't punish complainers.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>I guess that no one wants to take that step and risk the harassment that the above poster is going through.<<

The first step in this direction has been taken.

Anonymous said...

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Anonymous said...

Yes, they punish complainers.

As was stated last winter, it was not uncommon for tenants they deemed to be complaining too often or too loudly --- or demanding what the landlord is responsible to provide --- to be threatened with legal action. And to further be punished and hurt in ways not wise to post here.

This happened to many residents. No one talks or writes about it because Blackstone succeeded in terrorizing their tenants. Period.

It is escalating. The guess is that it will continue to escalate because of the new rent laws, which have been termed "disastrous" by some personnel, and because management is resolved to continue last year's heat policy.

STR: you are indeed fortunate that you have not been harassed and threatened. Those tenants who have suffered this treatment, and those who will in the future, have not been so fortunate, will not be so fortunate.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>As was stated last winter, it was not uncommon for tenants they deemed to be complaining too often or too loudly --- or demanding what the landlord is responsible to provide --- to be threatened with legal action.<<

Proof!

Anonymous said...

I really do not believe that tenants who have been legally harassed would want to state proof or details on a public site even anonymously. I dread the coming winter if the heat situation is worse or even status quo. Of course the despicable TA will offer more tours of the heating plant and pretend to take down names and apartments.

Anonymous said...

STR, they probably are afraid to. Punish you because you would write about it.

Anonymous said...

In order to "prove" the threats and harassment written about here, residents would need to reveal their names and possibly addresses. They would need to provide written proof of landlord threats. They would need to make public, and in writing, details of documents and verbal threats from the landlord.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

It's quite simple. Take a letter or email, mark-out the name of the tenant and address, and show the threat. The tenant's name need not be visible.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Of course, if there no email or letter, and only "word-of-mouth," then that is just a person's word against another word.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

More PR trouble for Blackstone:

https://theintercept.com/2019/08/27/amazon-rainforest-fire-blackstone/

Anonymous said...

But management could then track down that person by the email, and they know exactly who is continuing to complain. Sure the person is anonymous in terms of people on this blog not knowing, but management will know that “Jane Doe” is now complaining about the heat on the STR blog.

Just because names and addresses are blocked out does not mean management can not tie that down to the exact person, unless they use the same blanket email threat with all people. If it’s a unique email specific to an exact person, they could find out in seconds who the culprit is.

Anonymous said...

I find these reports of threats very credible and I can totally see why a tenant would not want to give”proof” on a social media site.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>But management could then track down that person by the email<<

I just don't believe it. Sorry. No proof, no nothing.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

Seen just now: Two uncovered mattresses on the loops. Different locations. So that one covered mattress was an aberration.

Anonymous said...

I don’t care whether they are covered or not. They should not be out piled up on the loop, only to sit there for hours at a time. This property gets worse and worse. A real transient slum.

Anonymous said...

This is no longer a real community. There is a majority of students. There are so many people speaking foreign languages who I believe to be tourists, Airbnb’s, and monthly leaseholders. My building’s population changes on a daily basis. I rarely see the same residents. Nobody is paying those enormous rents to live here anymore with the intent to stay. Most apartments are dorms, temp hotel apartments, and floating roomie units. The neighborhood outside is worsening as well, making the Sty even more unappealing.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>I don’t care whether they are covered or not. They should not be out piled up on the loop, only to sit there for hours at a time.<<

Hours and hours at times.

Anonymous said...

"Warnings can be delivered and fines threatened."

Sorry, except in extreme cases where Blackstone's bottom line takes a hit, nothing will be done. Every "Good Neighbor" rule now is focus grouped approved beginning with the word "Please".

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I believe the attitude at Blackstone, and I include this Management, is to wait things out or ignore things. Bad news to them is just temporary.

Anonymous said...

The bigger they are, they harder they fall. This is an old saying, and a true saying.

To anyone who has not read the revelations of Blackstone's involvement in the burning of the Amazon jungle, and the attendant death of untold numbers of animals and the destruction of the trees and other flora growing there: you might want to read about it.

The people who are our current landlord, it turns out, are truly malevolent. Their actions far exceed some of the worst nightmares this writer could have, waking or sleeping.

We've an invader, a conqueror, an enemy the likes of which Peter Cooper Village and Stuyvesant Town never knew before Blackstone marched in here with their lies and smiles, with the triumphant involvement of "our own" Tenants Association and with the current mayor and other representatives of our good community.

There are those who believe surrender to a vicious and brutal invader is smartest. Others believe something different.

If you are not informed about Blackstone, Schwarzman and their employees and associates, and the destruction of this Earth's Amazon Jungle, please look it up.

Anonymous said...

You are kidding yourselves as far as discarded mattresses are concerned -- they are put there by departing or moving NYU students who don't give a damn (and where mommy or daddy lets them do whatever they want). Blackstone management is never going to do anything to the NYU students regarding mattress dumping, drunken behavior and not picking up dog poop because the cash flow from NYU is the bread and butter for Hayduk and company. There are less market renters these days because prospective renters read the terrible reviews about stuy town/peter cooper that are on Yelp and other rating websites. As I write this I am looking out on Playground 1 which is now Madison Square Garden with hockey games four or five times a week for NYU students. Any time a residential development becomes a profit center for a big corporation that spells trouble and heartache for the residents who just want some quality of life.

Anonymous said...

I’m sad about what has happened here. I don’t understand how refuse cam be left out in the open. I saw a toddler walking along. There was a stack of mattresses of the 14th st loop nowhere close to the designated zone. The child ran a jumper on the pile before the distraught mother could grab her. The mother was very upset. You never know what is on mattresses. Bedbugs , excremental or other bugs. A guard was standing by the incident and laughed. I wish I had the money to move. I don’t think my fixed income will allow me to live in the neighborhood I’ve lived in for 50 years.

What can I do? I’ve called management. I’ve gone to meetings. Nothing ever changes.? I see that this board moderator is doing things to help. Can I help you or anyone?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>What can I do? I’ve called management. I’ve gone to meetings. Nothing ever changes.? I see that this board moderator is doing things to help. Can I help you or anyone?<<

There are a few people who are trying to help and "fight the good fight." But they are up against MONEY and BLACKSTONE, which, sorry to say, include Rick and management here. As I stated on the main page, we are being fed lies and half-truths and false smiles. Know, at least, that you are not alone, and more and more people are seeing what is happening here. I am upping my "fight" (legal, of course) and we will see what results that brings, if any.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the above poster. NYU is the bread and butter for Blackstone. If they didn’t rent to these students half the apartments would be empty. Today I saw a bro in my building with his dirty moveout crap in a laundry cart . I heard that he was using the same laundry cart yesterday. Who wants to put their laundry in that cart now. I was going to call security, but they could care less. This place is a garbage dump for students and transients.

This board and others do show photos but it is not effective. Management can care less. Unless the media such as The NY Times gets the photos, it will have no impact. And as I stated before residents don’t want to do this on their own.

Anonymous said...

It is easier to protest with rent strikes when one building is involved. Impossible to do here. First of all there is little support. Many long time tenants love Rick. Secondly it would not make a dent here and thirdly that building is likely not made up of transients and students. Not sure why you posted that.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I'm not calling for a rent strike, but showing that tenants can (hopefully) make a difference.

TOTAL SILENCE from Tenants Association President Susan Steinberg and her sham organization of 78 dues paying members out of 30,000+ residents.
What a fraud!
Hey, Susan, when is the next photo opp?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>This board and others do show photos but it is not effective. Management can care less.<<

Yes, but if there were no photos, then Blackstone/Management can claim that everything is super fine.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I know it's a dream, but can you imagine our local paper (T & V) printing photos of uncovered mattresses on the loops and other discarded furniture? Why don't they?

Anonymous said...

Because they are a management rag. Even if T&V published photos of the garbage, it would not be a big deal. It is a local rag, not widely read. All the photos in the world are meaningless to Blackstone. They claim that this is a great place all the way to the bank.

Anonymous said...

Tenants cannot make a difference here unfortunately.

Anonymous said...

The Town & Village "newspaper" is indeed a management rag.
Zero journalistic ethics on the part of Christopher Hagedorn.
Poor Charles Hagedorn must be turning over in his grave.
For shame.

Anonymous said...

I've been giving the matter of discarded mattresses some thought and one solution would be to have them hauled to just outside the door of Rick Hayduk's apartment. That way they will be off the street and Rick seems to love discarded mattresses so let him have them all. Maybe the future Oval events will want to emulate "Animal House" and have a real live toga party complete with beer kegs . The security officers can be in charge of the refreshments while they are chanting "Toga, toga, toga !!!! "

Anonymous said...

Now that September is here, the students are moving in and out in droves. I have seen them using our laundry carts to move their dirty boxes and junk out. It is obvious that this sty is now an official NYU dorm and transient center. Between the foreign language speaking short term renters and massive numbers of bros and girls, the place resembles a campus/hotel and not a pretty one.

Anonymous said...

Tremendous junk pile outside my building on the loop. I mean tremendous. Filthy pigs discard the stuff and other filthy pigs pick it over. One student just took a lamp from the pile. Others touching cushions and uncovered mattresses. This is a disgrace Slick Rick.

Anonymous said...

Someone posted a piggy student using a laundry cart to move her crap. The cheerleaders are up in arms. How dare she shame this excited coed. One suggested management provide moveout equipment like it is a hotel. Another felt so bad for her because this was such a great day for her. WE DONT WANT THESE NYU pigs here. Why should we cater to them. They left a pile of crap today on the 14th St loop that was there four hours. People were picking over the garbage. One moron said that there is nothing wrong with using a laundry cart for dirty boxes. This is what we are dealing with here. An ever increasing student population as well as transient population who ignore rules. A slick manager who is only interested in crap entertainment and moronic tenants who love the students.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I looked there, and it's pretty disheartening that there are voices advocating taking a laundry cart out to do a move in and out. That "shaming" comment is beyond ridiculous. But that is one type of tenant we have: a lousy tenant.

Anonymous said...

THE LAUNDRY CARTS ARE FOR THE LAUNDRY.

I HAVE STOPPED MORE THAN ONE IDIOT FROM USING, OR CONTINUING TO USE, A LAUNDRY CART.

It is simple and easy to dial "Security" and insist it be stopped, if that is your preferred method of dealing with it. Security officers DO respond to this if you insist. Even better, stand there as it happens, and MAKE CERTAIN SECURITY SHOWS UP TO STOP IT, CALLING REPEATEDLY IF NEED BE. I HAVE DONE SO.

BEST: OPEN YOUR OWN MOUTH. YOU MIGHT WANT TO BEGIN THE CONVERSATION POLITELY. OR NOT. YOU CAN STOP THIS. WHEN YOU SEE IT, STOP IT.

YOU ARE EVEN WITHIN YOUR RIGHTS TO SEIZE THE CART AND RETURN IT TO ITS RIGHTFUL PLACE FOR ITS DESIGNATED USE.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

If you are mugged: "Take a deep breath. It will be ok." LOL.

Stuy Town Reporter said...

>>It is simple and easy to dial "Security" and insist it be stopped, if that is your preferred method of dealing with it.<<

How knows? By the time PS gets to it, the move-in or move-out may be gone. Also there is the matter of confrontation. I may say something about a cart being used for such a purpose, but I'm not sure I would block the person until PS arrives, if they do.

Anonymous said...

Great idea. He is amused by the mattress complaints. Let him have a view of a massive trash pile out his window.

Remember that when you confront these students who live in high rent apartments, you risk management censure and harassment or just purposeful ignoring of the issue. NYU is their bread and butter and they will not rock the boat.

And this makes me angry, very angry. I see this every day when I'm at Gracefully. Bikers disobeying the law about stopping at red lights. There are also children going to and coming from school on that street. The two-lane bike path on 20th street is also a disaster. And our dearly beloved Management has also added Citibikes to a playground. Do we have a TA? Do we have a councilman?

Our councilman is in hiding or on permanent vacation.

CHEERLEADERS ARE RUINING OUR HOMRS BY TELLING RICKY THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR IS OK. It is not ok! I am beyond angry

I am coming back from a major illness. Rode on the First Ave lane, then on the 29th ST lane to go crosstown to see the air show on the Hudson River last week. I have not rode in about 3 years. A horror show. I was the only one who stopped for lights on 1st Ave (except for the 23rd, they stopped for that). Going crosstown, West, than back East on the bike lanes after the show, many vehicles parked in the lanes (including NYPD so called "official vehicles") which forced me to go out in traffic. Also, waiting on the light at 23rd St. I saw 2 cars make illegal right turns on red lights. Bottom line, its Road Warrior/Mad Max out there. I drive too and it's pedestrian madness out there as well.

Anonymous said...

This sty gets more disgusting by the minute. Between the huge trash pile, the bullying cheerleaders on the TA site, the pigs stealing the laundry carts for moving I was fed up. But tonight the lovely aroma of weed came through my bathroom window, further sickening me. Everywhere I go I smell it. This place is out of control. A complete disaster.

Maybe Rick should honor the nasty bully cheerleaders along with the TA brass in a fun filled hootenanny on the oval lawn. They can be presented with awards for their unwavering support and effective attacks on critics of management and the TA. After that they can feed on Shake Shack and Five Turds Cafe food, free of charge. They do deserve something for being so loyal and doing such dirty work.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. “Peter Stuyvesant” condones this behavior by only going after the “complainers” while turning a blind eye to the blatant bullying comments by people who agree with their agenda and the agenda of management.

The harassment is completely out of line, and they are opening themselves up to legal ramifications by allowing this to continue. And some of these exact same people are the ones crying foul over a certain person’s twitter usage, calling him a bully. They are doing the exact same thing to the people they disagree with on the TA Facebook page, therefore making them Grade A hypocrites.

The one tenant who’s name was brought up should sue for libel, and include the TA in the legal action for allowing people to post about them like that.

I understand that most people are afraid of losing their homes. And I also understand that we have been taught and conditioned to obey rules made by the so-called authorities. As soon as we're born, we are subjected to constrictions and threats, some of them life-threatening.

Fear is not always the best motivation for action, or lack of action.

Regarding taking actions to stop anti-social behavior here:

I have read a number of actions taken by residents, themselves, which resulted in a cessation of noxious, anti-social, dangerous behaviors by other humans who infest this environment. I considered some of them original and inspired. All of them were laudable.

I witnessed, benefitted, and heard from other residents actions they have taken to stop the cretins, morons, and ignoramuses from a whole host of anti-social actions.

I have taken many actions, beginning with polite comments and requests, to stop unwanted behaviors. Nothing illegal, untoward.

As has been observed by others, "No" is a complete sentence. Every one of us is capable of uttering it.

Every day there is a huge pile of dirty mattresses and trash somewhere along the 14th St. loop. There is also always people, some homeless and some from the development picking through the filth. This is so disgusting. As I observe other parts of the city, I will see an occasional mattress out on the sidewalk but never to the extent of huge trash piles as seen in the Sty. Slick Rick, you may think it is funny but it is really unacceptable and I hope and pray that you are exposed for this health violation.

Kind of along the lines of the mattress filth - I got stuck behind 2 golf carts this morning, and the amount of harmful exhaust these things emit is completely counterintuitive to the environmental friendly policies SPS is trying to push. If Rick and crew want to be environmentally friendly, get the workers back on their two feet and out of those pollution machines.

Has anyone noticed that the surrounding neighborhood is now declining as much as the Sty. I passed the Y today on 14th St. A long row of homeless were lying along the sidewalk with suitcases and belongings. When you walk through there along 14th to B there is always a strong aroma of pot. Why anyone would pay 4500 a month to live in a pig sty surrounded by a slum Sty is beyond me. I guess that explains the tremendous increase in NYU students and tourists residing in these apartments here.

Understood. But you said "anyone". Thanks . And "professionals" can also be finance/tech Bros.

RH uses the term “young professionals" all the time in his talking points on the demographic they market to. I agree, you don’t see families or lets’ say doctors or established attorneys moving into the Sty. It may be different in PCV but i believe are getting dorm dumped as well.

Blackstone and the environment:

As has been pointed out, BLACKSTONE HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED TO BEAR SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF LARGE AREAS OF THE AMAZON RAINFOREST.

Blackstone: Stephen Schwarzman, Jonathan, and many, many, many other people

So . . . if the good people at blackheart are involved in destroying the Amazon Rainforest,

why in the name of anything vaguely sane would they stop at polluting the environment of puny little Stuyvesant Town?

On a totally unrelated subject, I just came home from being out of town for a few weeks and went into my favorite grocery, Associated. I was shocked at how quiet it is in there and so many understocked shelves. I hope it isn't going to close. Where did all the crowds go? There is NOWHERE around here that is so inexpensive and so very convenient if you live on the 14th Street side of the project. Target sucks and I would never shop in Trader Joe (if one ever does come to this neck of the woods). I'll have to shop at the Associated on Avenue C and have it delivered because although I'm not elderly, I do have a mobility problem and can't walk too far or carry heavy stuff.

I will be heartbroken if Associated closes! I wish the Tenants Association would petition Management to give them a new lease at a reasonable rent. I hear the TA has an "in" with Management these days, though I'm not sure what good that does!

After buying and owning our corrupt NYC Mayor Bill (should be in prison) de Blasio, our corrupt NYC Councilman Dan (lying-conniving) Garodnick and, indirectly via lying-conniving Garodnick and lobbyist-councilman Powers, our incredibly conflicted Vichy PCVST TA Board; the ongoing exploitation and inevitable destruction of this former 80-acre Manhattan oasis and historic PCVST residential community was reduced to a tiny, yet still highly visible speck in greedy Blackstone's global portfolio scheme.

"Global companies do more than simply provide financing for agribusiness interests in Brazil. Consider the U.S.-based investment firm Blackstone (not to be confused with BlackRock), owned by a mega-donor to both Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and President Donald Trump. According to The Intercept’s Ryan Grim, Blackstone has been a major force behind huge agribusiness and infrastructure projects in Brazil, including a controversial highway and a major port—all in former rain-forest areas and all to expand agribusiness export markets. “Blackstone has also launched two funds dedicated to buying farmland in Brazil and other South American countries,” Grim stated in his newsletter.

And yet Blackstone has tried to spin itself as climate-conscious, issuing a statement to The Intercept that read, in part, “Blackstone is committed to responsible environmental stewardship.”

As for Associated, I agree that it is very convenient but it has been a dirty, understocked, hazardous store for years . They block the narrow aisles with boxes so that you can hardly pass. That manager had 20 years to make improvements. He keeps saying that he never made improvements because he didn’t know if his lease will be renewed. Well, he had over 20 years to improve. Hopefully they will put a different supermarket in that spot. If not, I will shop at TraderJoes. Your comment about the TA having an in with management made me laugh. The TA is a nothing entity with absolutely no clout. They cannot influence management in any way, we went with limited heat all winter.

Again my offer to SHAMELESS SUSAN STEINBERG stands: dinner at the finest restaurant in New York City on my dime if she proves my assertion false:

The "organization" is a sham, probably corrupt, a tool of Management, REFUSES to open up its books.
A COMPLETE FRAUD!
When is the next photo op, Susan?

Stuy Town Reporter said...

I buy at Associated--several items--but I price, too. I rarely have a problem with the aisles, but they can be tight depending on the people inside. If it's gone, I don't believe another supermarket will replace it at that spot.

Anonymous said...

If Associated goes, I will have to shop for groceries online because I cannot walk or carry stuff too far. I won't shop at TJs because I have found their stuff to be overpriced and of very low quality. Plastic food. Also, the lines at TJs are way more than I can handle. If they put a good quality supermarket in the space Associated occupies I would shop there, but I won't shop at Target (why would anybody???) or Trader Joe's.

Anonymous said...

One of my problems with Associated among many is the piled up boxes lined up in the aisles. The aisles are narrow enough without them. Another issue is their limited stock. You can rarely get everything on your shopping list. Another issue is the lack of cleanliness of the store and the attitude of the manager who jokes with cashiers while they are on the job. Fruit I have bought there has been terrible. I do like their deli. No great loss.

No one is being forced to buy at Associated. As I said, I go there for certain things, but not everything. I try to price things, at least in my head, and some things are cheaper there and some things are not. The removal of Associated will mean one less place I can go to.

Anonymous said...

Not surprised. Probably short term hotels. I see them rolling in just mattresses many times. Those are probably for the dorms.

It looks like Associated is winding down. I would rather starve than shop at TJ or Fairway. Yechhh to TJ and FU to Fairway. Owned by the new Nazis.

Anonymous said...

Fairway is a far nicer store than Associated. Wish one would open in this neighborhood. Will learn to shop in TJ. Rather than politicize stores, I judge them by attractiveness to the shopper. Blackstone is destroying the planet and causing widespread death and destruction to feed their insatiable greed. There should be some World Court to try and convict them for crimes against humanity. What they are doing is truly evil and they don't care. There really should be an outcry against them and they should be stopped and brought to justice before it is too late. Schwartzman, et al should be treated as the criminals they are. They make Jeffrey Epstein look like a choir boy!

I have absolutely ZERO respect for Rick Hayduk at this point. I think he is contemptible. Behind that smarmy smile is a cold, dead soul. His eyes are very cold and so is his soul. I should add that "hopeless" is part of the plan. Residents' complaints will be listened to at first, but then if the residents continue, the idea is to ignore them or consider them "troublemakers." Pretty soon, it is hoped that the complainers will lose energy and just go away.

But Blackstone goes on and on, without responding in public. Blackstone will put on a happy face that everything is fine, including Stuy Town. Yes - here.

And PLEASE: no more of the arguments against our ability to do so, citing all manner of reasons it is impossible to STOP the ongoing misery they've created.

WE CANNOT SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME LEVEL OF THINKING THAT CREATED THEM - Albert Einstein, or a paraphrase of one of his more famous observations.

I can’t wait to see the email about the opening of the Veterans memorial:

“Come one, come all, to the grand opening of OUR amazing dedication to veterans. Please join us at 5 Stuy Cafe to get plastered on the recently allowed alcohol that the cafe can now serve. It’s mere feet from the memorial, so you won’t have to go far. Then move a few more feet to the oval for our daily circus events. Could you possibly ask for a better day??”

Seriously, whoever the hell decided that the memorial should be in that location is a MORON. The idea is right, but the location is a complete and utter failure, but it’s yet another case of optics - put it smack dab in the middle of the crappy commercialized oval.

Just curious. why would anyone who is not a dues paying member of the Blackstone TA go to their website? Let their web traffic be just the handful of members and let them fade away into the night. They are disgusting people, who needs them? Let the organization die an anti-hero's death.

My humble opinion: ALL commercialization here, and "renting" to hoards of unrelated individuals, as well as threatening resident safety on the pathways with wheeled, motorized vehicles, AND a long, long list of other actions IS ILLEGAL. Period.

Inviting jackasses onto pristine, minding-its-own-business grass, and thus harming and hurting the ground, the life that lives under the ground, the life that lives on top of the grass, in the trees and in the air is WRONG, IMMORAL, OBSCENE.

Erecting any "monuments" and "memorials" in this once-upon-a-time community is likely breaking some law or ordinance or regulation. It sure as hell is obnoxious, distractive, intrusive.

This is a home, for heaven's sake. Well maintained buildings, walkways and grounds WITHOUT DOGS are just some of the conditions to which we are ENTITLED BY LAW.

DOGS SHIT AND PISS; SCREAMING/DRUNK/STONED ASSHOLES; CHOPPED UP APARTMENTS; DENIAL OF HEAT; BREACH OF LEASE EVERY DAY IN SO MANY WAYS, INCLUDING NOISE GENERATED BY THE SO-CALLED LANDLORD AND THE AS*SHOLES THE SO-CALLED LANDLORD ENTICES IN TO DESTROY PEACE AND GRASS AND WORSE . . .

Humans who do not know how to either themselves behave civilly, or discipline their children and yet who curry favor for themselves at our expense are also NOT what the true residents here, especially the old-timers are paying for, or have previously suffered.

Again, again, again: So much is not only wrong here; so much threatens peace of mind, mental health, the body's ability to fight off disease.

Has anyone ever had a positive interaction with public safety? I have had several interactions and to date I have found them to be extremely incompetent and wonder if that is unusual or if that is the norm. I don't think they have any supervision and are here just to collect their paychecks as window dressing. Blackstone could save a fortune by just getting rid of the whole lot as they serve no purpose except to fill out a uniform. I've heard people say that they are told to do nothing but that makes no sense. Why pay people to do nothing when you are losing money hand over fist on a terrible investment? Perhaps, NYU demands they have x number of security guards on staff at their off campus housing and so Blackstone keeps that number on staff at minimum wage. I understand that Chief Martin is ex NYPD. That might explain why she couldn't catch a cold.

Yes. I would say around 98% of the time. And I have had many, many such calls, meetings, etc., since we were sold by Met Life. The 2% minus was for QOL issues.

"Whenever I call Public Safety, no one even answers the phone. The endless recording works just fine, though."

The "music" hold feature is bogus and most PS officers will tell you so off the record. That being said, I always get through. I am putting my real name on this post to clear the air. here. I think my cred is pretty good on these issues.

Anonymous said...

"Has anyone ever had a positive interaction with public safety?"

25+ years and every interaction (generally once or twice per year) we've had with Public Safety has been positive, even when they were required to standby witnessing ostensible "80% carpet/illegal wall" apartment inspections that are actually pretext excuses for intrusive, insulting searches by bad-faith mgmt looking for anything that could subsequently be used to harass long term residents.

At the same time, we have always kept ourselves aware of restrictions successive mgmt agents place on PS that prevent them from properly doing their jobs. Like building/property maintenance personnel, their high visibility physical presence makes them easy targets for misplaced criticism that should more properly be directed at Blackstone malfeasance. We don't blame PS for mgmt handcuffing them and never ask them to do something we know they are prohibited from doing.

Anonymous said...

Blackstone got rid of Security, of Public Safety . . . as it was, as it still needs to be and will not be again with Blackstone in charge here.

Those in "Public Safety," or "Security" who either remain from old times, or who have been hired or promoted, are not to blame for their behaviors.

They can quit or they can do what they are ordered to do and not do.

Those working here are: Wage slaves with some of the worst pernicious, destructive, ugly collections of people presently on this planet: Blackstone Group as employers.

Ask the homeless, the evicted, and the harassed all over Mother Earth whom Blackstone have irreparably harmed.

Don't forget to tour the Amazon Rainforest, and also do research on the dead animals and vegetation of the Amazon caused, in large part, by Blackstone.

It is very, very difficult to take in the scope and depth of the either deliberate or just plain callous attitude which our landlords display as they cause needless suffering to untold numbers of people and other kinds of lives.

If it were me, I'd either never work for the likes of them, or quit. Most people are too afraid to leave their jobs. Our "Public Safety" and "Security" folks are no different.

She brings the dogs up to playground 1 and lets them off the leash one at a time to crap in the bushes as she sits with the other 3 dogs on the stoop of the nearest building. Needless to say she never picks up the poop, (I don't think she can as she is a very large woman) she just leaves it there and lets the next dog go and so on. When she plops herself down on the stoop at the entrance of the building she blocks anyone from entering or exiting. She does this twice a day for some time now at approximately the same time each day, in the same location. PS says they will send someone each time I call but I have yet to see them do so. The last time I called the person on the other end said they would send someone and I said no you won't and his response was "what do you want us to do?" Now mind you this is an approximately 300 pound woman with 300 pounds of dogs and PS can't catch her, so I said maybe you could use those cameras that I pay for each month and follow her to her destination. If she lives in The Pig Sty you could address the issue of the 4 dogs, fine her for breaking her lease and eventually refuse to offer her a new lease, but definitely fine her each time she does this since she is very consistent it should be easy. If she leaves the Pig Stuy you could wait for her one day since again she is here at almost the same time each day and escort her out and let her know if she returns that you will have her charged with trespassing. His response was basically, Oh and click he hung up... No one ever came by to check. They (Beam Living), just doesn't give a damn, they're like spoiled children who have been told they can't do something and they are throwing a tantrum. Real professionals...LOL.

I saw this not long ago, returning from food shopping. Two very large dogs around the Oval area. No blue lanyard, of course. The owners (two) passed by a PS officer. Did he say anything? Escort them out? No. Not a word.

And that movie was very loud. I'm glad I don't live around the Oval.

Let me say this, Rick and Public Safety are doing a LOUSY job. There is no other way to put it. But, of course, most tenants don't care.

Oh, and there were about 50 families watching the movie. If I am generous I will give 75 to 100.

"Has anyone ever had a positive interaction with public safety?"

Yes. I would say around 98% of the time. And I have had many, many such calls, meetings, etc., since we were sold by Met Life. The 2% minus was for QOL issues.<<

I'm outside at various times, and I have seen many times uncovered mattresses on the loops and outside dogs being walked in. It is the responsibility of Public Safety to enforce these rules. So far, I've seen very little of such action. Once a month or two weeks, PS sets up a sting for e-bikes, but otherwise, forget it. I am willing to be proven otherwise, but I report what I see. PS may pick up the phone, but regarding some of the "rules," they look the other way.

I agree, I would never work for them either. It takes a morally deficient person to take their paycheck from a company that ruins the lives of so many people, and that’s not even getting into the Amazon destruction. People who work for them accept what they are doing to people worldwide and Mother Earth.

You can not work for Blackstone and be a climate change advocate, the two are polar opposites. And you can’t take your paycheck from them and claim to be a righteous person, it just does not work like that.

I have lived here 60 years and have the exact opposite experience that Edmond has had. The first 40+ years I never had to call Security (as they were known then) because people didn't behave the way they behave now. Back then due to the 20 year wait list Met Life had the ability to strike fear in people's hearts as they knew they WOULD BE EVICTED if they behaved the way tenants do today. In fact some were evicted. Nowadays, no one worries about that as Blackstone can't afford to evict anyone that pays rent because they know they won't be able to fill that apartment unless they go out to another college or to the city for help. Stuyvesant Town is no longer a desirable place to live and that changes all the dynamics. Get used to the free for all as that is the present and the future here. If you call with a rules violation or a QOL issue they will tell you they will send someone to deal with the issue but they never actually do.

Security used to be great. It was a force of intelligent, competent, proactive, well-trained professionals. Now it is a bunch of raggedy-assed, unprofessional mall cops. We have NO security (PS if you like) presence here.

Rick is such an unprincipled, unscrupulous MORON. Those are the qualifications he was handpicked for. He is totally unfit and unqualified to manage a property this size.

I have had one very positive interaction with PS officer who took care of a smoking issue from downstairs. That was after two did nothing. It was a fruity substance smoked out of a hookah that they insisted was not pot. This particular officer told the bros down there that it was a environmental hazard. He was a good one. The ones now are puppets for Hayduk.

History will not look kindly on Blackstone and the politicians it buys. When the Amazon Rain Forest is gone and we are living on a dying planet, historians will remember Blackstone. I won't be here, but my kids and grandkids will (maybe) and I am making sure they know who is destroying the planet that they have to try to survive. Do these monsters have young kids and grandkids? If they do, it's clear that they don't love them enough to stop creating the destruction and suffering they are responsible for.

They have been called out by the United Nations for their greed and indifference. What a legacy.

just wondering if red tape border around door wrapped in plastic means apt being treated for bed bugs. plastic tape on floor in hallway also - does that mean apt being painted or bed bugs?

I've seen blue tape used for painting walls and finishing floors.
